Sanders may move US Embassy out of Jerusalem, calls Netanyahu ‘reactionary racist’

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Tuesday that moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel back to Tel Aviv from Jerusalem is “something we would take into consideration,” if he is elected president. Sanders, currently the front-runner in the early going of the race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, was responding to a question on the matter at a debate among the candidates which took place in Charleston, South Carolina, ahead of a primary scheduled for Saturday in that state. “I’m very proud of being Jewish. I actually lived in Israel for some months. But what I happen to believe is that right now, sadly, tragically, in Israel, through Bibi Netanyahu, you have a reactionary racist who is now running that country,” Sanders charged.

Haiti capital’s streets blocked as protests spread

Anti-government protesters barricaded key streets in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, on Monday. The blockades came a day after police demanding better working conditions attacked the army headquarters in the city. The government of President Jovenel Moïse called the attack “a coup attempt” and the armed forces spoke of a “war situation”. At least two people died in Sunday’s clashes. On Monday, protesters scattered bricks, burning tyres and overturned ice-cream carts on the streets leading to the home of President Moïse, whose resignation they demand.

Delhi riots: City tense after Hindu-Muslim clashes leave 23 dead

Delhi remains on edge after a third consecutive night of rioting, with reports of Muslim homes and shops being targeted by violent mobs. Twenty-three people have been killed so far in the deadliest violence the Indian capital has seen in decades. The clashes first broke out on Sunday between protesters for and against a controversial citizenship law. But they have since taken on communal overtones, with reports of many Muslims being attacked. Photographs, videos and accounts on social media paint a chilling image of the last few days – of mostly Hindu mobs beating unarmed men, including journalists; of groups of men with sticks, iron rods and stones wandering the streets; and of Hindus and Muslims facing off.

‘I want to be brave like you’: 9-year-old asks Pete Buttigieg to help him tell the world he’s gay

Pete Buttigieg shared an emotional moment with a young supporter in Denver on Saturday night. “Thank you for being so brave,” the boy, later identified as 9-year-old Zachary Ro, wrote in a question submitted via fishbowl during the presidential hopeful’s Saturday rally, “Would you help me tell the world I’m gay, too? I want to be brave like you.” Zachary, who attended the rally with his parents, joined the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor on stage. He presented Buttigieg with a bracelet, which the Democratic hopeful put on. “I don’t think you need a lot of advice for me on bravery. You seem pretty strong to me,” Buttigieg, who is gay, told Zachary. “It took me a long time to figure out how to tell even my best friend that I was gay, let alone to go out there and tell the world and to see you willing to come to terms with who you are in a room full of 1,000 people, thousands of people you’ve never met that’s, that’s really something.”
