Israeli army reinforces Lebanon border after Hezbollah threats

How might Hezbollah retaliate against Israel?

The Israeli military said Thursday it was reinforcing the country’s northern border with infantry troops after the Hezbollah terror group threatened to retaliate for the killing of one of its fighters in an alleged IDF raid in Syria earlier this week. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said the additional deployment is done “in accordance with the situational assessment” and that life of local farmers and holidaymakers is not expected to be affected. Hezbollah sources told the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that there was a decision to retaliate for the killing of its fighter in Damascus on Monday. “The response will be in line with [Hezbollah chief] Hassan Nasrallah’s promise to respond from the Lebanese soil to any harm done to Hezbollah members in Syria,” said the source. In a statement on Monday, Hezbollah confirmed that member Ali Kamel Mohsen was killed by the “Zionist aggression” on the outskirts of Damascus.

Convoy Carrying Equipment for US Forces in Iraq Reportedly Targeted in Twin Bombing Attacks

A convoy carrying supplies to a US base in southern Iraq was targeted by two roadside bombs on Wednesday, Anadolu Agency has reported, citing an Iraqi police captain. “Two explosive devices blew up a tire on Iraqi trucks carrying logistical support for American forces on the al-Bathaa road in Dhi Qar province,” the agency’s source, who was not cleared to speak to the media, said. The bombs were said to have caused damage to the trucks and their cargo. Anadolu’s source did not mention any human casualties. Wednesday’s reported bombing attack in Dhi Qar took place about 200 km southeast of a July 12 arson attack on another convoy carrying US equipment along the Samawah-Diwaniya highway. That attack destroyed three vehicles, with the hit-and-run attack reported to have lasted less than ten minutes and caused no casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for either of the attacks.

‘Dangerous adventure’: Turkey warns Egypt over Libya invasion

Turkey Will Send More Troops To Libya If Egyptian Forces Breach Border

Turkey and Russia agreed on Wednesday to press for a ceasefire in war-ravaged Libya, but Ankara said the leader of the eastern forces was illegitimate and must withdraw from key positions for a credible truce to take hold. Moscow and Ankara are among the main power brokers in Libya’s conflict while supporting opposing sides. Russia backs the eastern-based forces of renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar, while Turkey has helped the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) repel Haftar’s attempt to storm the capital. “We’ve just reached an agreement with Russia to work on a credible and sustainable ceasefire in Libya,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s top security adviser, Ibrahim Kalin, told Reuters news agency. Kalin said any Egyptian deployment in Libya would hamper efforts to end the fighting and would be risky for Cairo. “I believe it will be a dangerous military adventure for Egypt.” Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry said on Wednesday achieving a political solution in Libya requires a “firm” response to “extremists” and foreign interference, which “not only threaten Egypt’s interests but also the security of Mediterranean countries”.

Turkish Supreme Court: Mehmet the Conqueror Bought Hagia Sophia, So Of Course It’s a Mosque

No one should be concerned about the conversion of Hagia Sophia, the foremost cathedral in the Christian world for nearly a thousand years, into a mosque – at least according to Shahid Qureshi, writing Monday in a Muslim publication known as the London Post. Why not? Because Mehmet the Conqueror, the Ottoman Sultan who conquered Constantinople and destroyed the Byzantine Empire on May 29, 1453, bought the place fair and square. So who could object? Once a mosque, always a mosque, and after all, the Christians sold it to him!

China vows to retaliate after U.S. orders closure of its consulate in Houston

Papers set on fire after US orders closure of Chinese consulate

The United States has ordered China to close its consulate general in Houston “in order to protect American intellectual property and American’s private information,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said Wednesday. Beijing vowed to retaliate, calling the order “an unprecedented escalation” in a broader conflict between the world’s two biggest economies, which now encompasses trade and technology, freedom of the press and religion, and the coronavirus and the race for a vaccine. The State Department did not elaborate on the alleged violations, but Ortagus suggested that China had violated the Vienna Convention, which says diplomats must “respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State” and “have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that State.”

Pandemic And Hair Trigger Flash Points: An Explosive Situation

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues its deadly march around the world, a number of relatively dormant conflicts, as well as several well-known flash points, stand ready to place the world on the edge of a major armed conflict. History shows us that during times of stress – economic depression, religious strife, vacuums of political leadership, and public health crises like that which is now plaguing the world – the chances for war increase commensurately. Continued economic dislocation and a deepening global recession is all that is needed as a catalyst for military standoffs from the Himalayas and South China Sea to the Caribbean waters off Venezuela and the 38th parallel of Korea to turn into hot war zones purposely or by accident.

Gold Nears All-Time High

Deepening negative real yields in the U.S. Treasury market are fueling a frenetic rally in gold that’s boosting the precious metal toward a record. Bullion has gained 24% this year and is about $45 from an all-time high. And with five-year Treasuries now yielding -1.16% once the effects of inflation are stripped out, the lowest close in seven years, there’s little reason to expect a slowdown in precious-metal buying as investors fret about the economic outlook, prospects for further outbreaks of Covid-19 and the impact of central-bank bond buying. “Gold is a superior form of purchasing power protection and as real rates dive significantly below zero here, gold is relatively more attractive as a hedge,” said Peter Grosskopf, chief executive officer at Sprott Inc., a precious metals specialist with about $8 billion under management.

Church sues California Governor after he BANS home Bible studies

A California church is suing Gov. Gavin Newsom for banning all indoor worship services, including Bible studies, and singing, saying the restrictions violate their religious freedom. Pasadena-based Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry filed the lawsuit in an attempt to block enforcement of Newsom’s orders which target churches. The church has many “Life Groups” which are home Bible studies and fellowship groups where people come together to share and learn about the Word of God. These are now forbidden under Gov. Newsom’s recent orders. CBN News previously reported that Newsom announced on July 13 that all indoor gatherings, including church services, must cease due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Liberty Counsel, a religious rights law group, is representing the church and points out that the governor’s actions are contradictory as he recently encouraged thousands of people to gather for protests against social injustice.

Flaw in Manufacturer’s Testing System For Coronavirus Used by Labs Across the US Causing False Positives

CDC admits false positives are being “mistakenly” included in official coronavirus data

A flaw in a manufacturer’s Coronavirus testing system used by labs across the US are causing false positives. Scientists at Connecticut’s public health laboratory say they’ve discovered a flaw in a manufacturer’s testing system for the coronavirus that’s used by labs around the country. So far, it’s resulted in 90 people – mostly residents of Connecticut nursing homes and assisted living facilities – recently receiving false positive tests. State public health officials are now reviewing whether nursing home residents who received false positive tests were grouped with other residents with accurate positive tests, given the state’s recommendation to cohort nursing home residents who test positive for COVID-19. “We don’t know that yet,” said Josh Geballe, Gov. Ned Lamont’s chief operating officer, noting that a team from the state’s Department of Public Health has been reaching out to every clinician responsible for those individuals, as well as the facilities where they live, and compiling data on the situation.
