Headline: IDF Central Command Head Says Unrest Will Get Worse

US Secretary of State John Kerry met Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan on Thursday for talks aimed at calming a wave of violence gripping Israel. The meeting in Amman came hours after fresh clashes broke out in Jerusalem where Israeli police fired tear gas, percussion bombs and rubber bullets to disperse Arab rioters in Issawiya. A tense confrontation erupted in the city’s Issawiya neighbourhood as about 100 residents, including schoolchildren, tried to block a main road after police closed off several neighborhood entrances with concrete blocks in response to attacks emanating from them. Israel’s Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said the authorities were on alert for more unrest, after several attacks in recent weeks by terrorists wielding knives or plowing cars into pedestrians. “I believe there will still be terror attacks and other incidents in the near future,” he said. Abbas’s spokesman said the PA leader was expected to tell Kerry of his growing concerns over “Israeli violations,” particularly in Jerusalem. “The Palestinian position will be made crystal clear: the Israeli violations are a red line and cannot be tolerated – especially with the tension and Israeli escalation in Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem,” Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP.

Headline: Mosque and Synagogue Firebombed as Tensions Rise

A Palestinian mosque and an Israeli synagogue were damaged in separate arson attacks, police and local residents said on Wednesday, causing no casualties but stoking tensions that have flared over a contested Jerusalem shrine. Youths entered Mghayr village in the occupied West Bank and set a fire which consumed the ground floor of the mosque before residents put it out, Mayor Faraj Na’asan told Reuters. There has been repeated vandalism of cars and buildings in Mghayr and the village’s second mosque was partially torched two years ago, Na’asan said, blaming Israelis from nearby Jewish settlements. Israeli ultra-nationalists say such so-called “price tag” attacks are reprisals for Palestinian violence or for any attempt by Israeli governments to curb settlement growth. The vandalism has at times also targeted Christian sites and Israeli military facilities. The Israeli police said it had sent a forensic team and a special “nationalist-crime unit” – set up last year to counter “price tag” incidents – to Mghayr, but that angry villagers had prevented them from entering the area. Separately, police said, unknown assailants threw a petrol bomb overnight at an ancient synagogue in Shfaram, a predominantly Muslim and Christian Arab town in northern Israel. There was small-scale damage and police were investigating.

Headline:  Iranian general: Palestinians have longer-range missiles

A top Iranian military commander announced Wednesday that Palestinian terrorist groups and Hezbollah received Fateh-class missiles that are able to attack any target in Israel. Tehran has also provided Hezbollah and Hamas with advanced rocket training, Revolutionary Guard Brigadier General Sayed Majid Moussavi said, according to the Fars News Agency. If true, this would be the first public revelation by Iran that the Palestinians are in possession of Fateh missiles that have a range of 200 kilometers, according to the Israel Missile Defense Association. “Considering the range of their missiles, they are able now to attack all targets from southern to northern parts of [Israel],” Moussavi said. Hamas and Hezbollah’s “missile capability includes a vast, but of course hidden, number of Fateh-class missiles,” he said. These reports echo similar statements on Tuesday by another Iranian general who claimed that Tehran had provided the terror groups with training in rocket manufacturing — and that Syria’s missile-production plants were built by Iran. “The Lebanese Hezbollah and the Palestinian resistance have grown very powerful in the field [of] missile production,” commander of Iran’s Aerospace Force Amir Ali Hajizadeh told Fars News Agency.

Headline:  Israel gives initial approval for 200 new homes in East Jerusalem

Headline:  U.S. says ‘deeply concerned’ about Israeli settlement decision

Headline:  France urges immediate reversal of Israel settlement decision

Israeli authorities gave initial approval on Wednesday for the construction of 200 new homes in an urban settlement in Jerusalem, a move that could aggravate tensions with Palestinians that Washington is trying to lower. The new housing is slated for Ramot, a sprawling hillside complex of apartment buildings and private homes at the northern edge of Jerusalem, on land Israel captured in a 1967 war and annexed to the city in a move never recognized internationally. Palestinians want this territory as part of a future state. Brachie Sprung, a spokeswoman for the Jerusalem municipality, said its planning committee granted preliminary approval for a private contractor to build the 200 housing units on land he purchased in Ramot. The project must pass several more stages before construction could begin, she said. Nabil Abu Rdeineh, a senior aide to Abbas, said in response to the announcement: “It looks like during every visit by Kerry to the region, (Israel) threatens to build new settler homes. This is a continuous escalation and contributes to a negative atmosphere.”

Headline:  French parliament to vote on Palestinian state

French lawmakers will vote on November 28 on a proposal by the Socialist Party urging the government to recognise Palestine as a state, a parliamentary source said Wednesday. The non-binding but highly symbolic vote would follow a similar vote in the British parliament and after Sweden announced it formally recognised the state of Palestine. A draft of the proposal states that the lower house National Assembly “invites the French government to use the recognition of the state of Palestine as an instrument to gain a definitive resolution of the conflict”. France will “obviously at a certain moment recognise the Palestinian state,” Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told AFP on Saturday.

Headline:  Hezbollah Accuses Israel of Assassinating Nuclear Scientists

Hezbollah has accused Israel of being directly involved with ISIS and the Syrian rebel forces, Syrian television reported Wednesday – claiming the Jewish state orchestrated the deaths of five nuclear technicians at a Syrian nuclear facility in Barzeh several days ago on behalf of the rebel forces. Hezbollah said that the deaths were the result of “Israel’s actions as part of its ongoing support of the Zionist enemy in Syria,” and that Israel “supports and helps radical Islamic groups in the country,” according to translations provided by Channel 10. All sides in the Syrian conflict regularly accuse each other of being “Zionists.”  A Hezbollah commander also cited the assassination of top terrorist and weapons expert Hassan Lakkis in December of last year as being an Israeli plot, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Lakkis was gunned down by unknown assassins outside Beirut in December 2013. Two Sunni Islamist factions claimed responsibility for the assassination, but Hezbollah has repeatedly accused Israel.

A bomb blast in a Cairo metro carriage injured sixteen people on Thursday morning, said the Egyptian ministry of health in a statement. The incident was caused by an explosive device placed in one of the underground carriages, said the ministry. The explosion did not cause any deaths, while the injuries were caused by the passengers rushing out of the carriages and not due to the explosion itself, said Ahmed Al-Ansary, head of the ambulances authority. The injuries were all slight, including light bruises and a couple of bone fractures. The casualties were sent to three different hospitals for immediate medical attention, Ansary told Egyptian state-owned news website Ahram Gate. The explosion took place in Hilmiyet al-Zaytoun, an eastern suburb of Cairo. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Syria Headline: Obama seeks review of Syria strategy, sees Assad removal as necessary: CNN

President Barack Obama wants his advisers to review the administration’s Syria policy after determining it may not be possible to defeat Islamic State militants without removing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, CNN reported on Wednesday. Citing senior U.S. officials, the network said Obama’s national security team held four meetings in the past week that were driven by how the administration’s Syria strategy fit into its campaign against Islamic State, which has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq. “The president has asked us to look again at how this fits together,” CNN quoted one senior official as saying. “The long-running Syria problem is now compounded by the reality that to genuinely defeat ISIL, we need not only a defeat in Iraq but a defeat in Syria.” ISIL is another acronym for Islamic State.

Syria Headline: Syrian rebels reject UN’s Aleppo truce plan

The opposition-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Aleppo has rejected a UN truce proposal that seeks to suspend fighting in Syria’s second city, a day after the government hinted at considering it. Zaher al-Saket, FSA military commander in the city, said on Wednesday that the proposal only serves the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and pledged that his troops would continue their fight. “First I would like to say that we completely reject this so-called freeze plan and truce,” he said in an interview with Al Jazeera. “We learned not to trust the Assad regime because they are cunning and only want to buy time. We saw what happened in Homs and we will never accept the same scenario in Aleppo.” The news came as forces loyal to Assad dropped a barrel bomb on Wednesday on Aleppo’s al-Marjeh neighbourhood, according to activists. Images from the aftermath of the reported strike showed men digging through a rubble of a building. There was no immediate report on casualties from the attack.

Headline:  School Dumps Christmas, Easter

There’s a new battleground in the war on Christmas – the suburbs of our nation’s capital. The school board in Montgomery County, Maryland has decided to appease Muslims families by making the school calendar — religious neutral. That’s bad news for all you Jews and Gentiles out there. As of next year – all Christian and Jewish holidays will be removed from the calendar. That means no more Christmas, no more Easter and no more Yom Kippur. There’s no word on whether the board will remove the Irish from St. Patrick’s Day or the love from St. Valentine’s Day or the trees from Arbor Day. For years local Muslims had been urging the district to close schools for two of their holidays. Many gathered outside the school board offices holding signs like “Support Equality for Eid” and “Because…our children matter too.” Instead, the school board opted to eliminate all religious holidays. Board members whacked the Jesus holidays because they did not want to disrespect or be insensitive to the Muslim community. “This seems the most equitable option,” board member Rebecca Smondrowski told the Washington Post.

Headline: Car bombs kill at least four in east Libya as chaos mounts

Headline:   Bomb goes off near Egyptian embassy in Libya

Car bombs exploded in eastern Libyan towns under the control of the internationally recognized government on Wednesday, killing at least four people and wounding 20 others, officials said. Four more people were killed when an air strike — a possible response to the car bombs — hit targets in Derna, an eastern town home to a large radical Islamist community, medics said. Libya is in growing chaos as armed factions compete for power. One has taken over the capital Tripoli, setting up its own government and parliament and forcing the elected parliament and administration of Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni to move east. One car bomb went off in a busy street in the eastern city of Tobruk near the Egyptian border, where the elected parliament is based in a hotel. “Twenty people have been wounded,” said Saleh Hashem, a lawmaker. “Nobody was killed.” Another blast struck near the military airport of Labraq, used by Thinni, now based in nearby Bayda east of Benghazi. A security source said four soldiers were killed there. A third car bomb exploded in the main eastern city of Benghazi, where the Libyan army and former general Khalifa Haftar are fighting Islamists. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Headline:  Germany warns anti-semitism rising on back of Middle East violence

Germany’s foreign minister said at an international conference on anti-semitism on Thursday that “hatred of Jews” was on the rise once more in his country and across Europe, fueled by spiraling violence in the Middle East. Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Germany’s Jews were subjected to threats and attacks at pro-Palestinian demonstrations, and the conflict between Israel in Gaza must not be used as justification for an anti-semitic behavior. As well as slogans like “Gas the Jews!” during some marches, in July at the height of the 50-day Gaza war petrol bombs were thrown at a synagogue in Wuppertal which had been burnt down on Kristallnacht – a Nazi attack on the Jews in 1938 – and rebuilt. “Bold and brutal anti-semitism has shown its ugly face again,” Steinmeier told an Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) event.

Headline:  Turkey Frees 12 Radicals after Attack on U.S. Sailors

Twelve radical nationalist Turkish protesters who attacked three U.S. sailors in the center of Istanbul have been freed from detention without being questioned or charged, reports said on Thursday. Several dozen members of the nationalist youth group Turkiye Genclik Birligi (Turkish Youth Union/TGB) attacked the visiting U.S. sailors on Wednesday afternoon in the Eminonu district on the Istanbul waterfront, a popular tourist hub. They threw red dye and sought to force white sacks as hoods on the sailors, whose vessel was moored in the center of Istanbul on its way back from exercises in the Black Sea. The case of the 12 protesters arrested over the action was referred earlier Thursday to the court of justice in Istanbul, the Dogan news agency said. However they were all later released without charge and without even being questioned by prosecutors, it added, without giving further details. The attack — which came amid tensions between NATO allies the United States and Turkey over the crisis in Syria — caused alarm in Washington. “We find it ugly and disturbing,” U.S. military spokesman Colonel Steven Warren told reporters in Washington, describing the attackers as “what appear to be thugs on the street.”

Headline: Protesters attack Guerrero Congress over missing students

Protests against missing students in Mexico took another government-rattling violent turn yesterday when a government office and several cars were torched outside the Guerrero state congress building. The congress building was severely damaged and the education department’s audit office was set aflame in the demonstration called by the teachers union. The action was another dramatic sign that the government of President Enrique Peña Nieto could be in serious jeopardy after 43 teaching students vanished and were presumed murdered six weeks ago in the nearby town of Iguala. Local gang members have confessed to the killings, say government officials, apparently carried out at the behest of local police and the town of Iguala’s mayor, who didn’t want demonstrators to interfere with a political event organized by his wife, according to authorities.

The explosion was the heaviest to hit Rada since the Houthis took over parts of the town last month, the military source said, adding that it was carried out by a suicide car bomber. Residents said the dawn bombing was felt across the whole town. Both the military and tribal sources said dozens were killed, but a more accurate toll was not immediately available. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. At least 26 more Houthis were killed in attacks that targeted them in several areas around Rada since early Tuesday, tribal sources said, giving a toll that AFP could not immediately confirm.

Headline:  Obama’s Secret Treaty Would Be The Most Important Step Toward A One World Economic System

Barack Obama is secretly negotiating the largest international trade agreement in history, and the mainstream media in the United States is almost completely ignoring it.  If this treaty is adopted, it will be the most important step toward a one world economic system that we have ever seen.  The name of this treaty is “the Trans-Pacific Partnership”, and the text of the treaty is so closely guarded that not even members of Congress know what is in it.  Right now, there are 12 countries that are part of the negotiations: the United States, Canada, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.  These nations have a combined population of 792 million people and account for an astounding 40 percent of the global economy.  And it is hoped that the EU, China and India will eventually join as well.  This is potentially the most dangerous economic treaty of our lifetimes, and yet there is very little political debate about it in this country. Even though Congress is not being allowed to see what is in the treaty, Barack Obama wants Congress to give him fast track negotiating authority.  What that means is that Congress would essentially trust Obama to negotiate a good treaty for us.  Congress could vote the treaty up or down, but would not be able to amend or filibuster it. Of course now the Republicans control both houses of Congress.  If they are foolish enough to blindly give Barack Obama so much power, they should all immediately resign.

Australia said Wednesday that it is constantly monitoring a convoy of four heavily-armed Russian warships, including at least one powerful missile cruiser, that are approaching its waters to the country’s north. According to the Australian Defence Force, or ADF, the Russian vessels are currently sailing in international waters. Australia has deployed two frigates and a surveillance aircraft to track the warships, which reportedly include a missile cruiser, a destroyer, a tug boat and a refueller. According to some analysts, the warships are heading toward Australia in a show of strength from Russian President Vladimir Putin, ahead of the G20 summit in Brisbane, BBC News reported. “In accordance with international law, Defence have been monitoring the Russian vessels,” the ADF said in a statement. “The movement of these vessels is entirely consistent with provisions under international law for military vessels to exercise freedom of navigation in international waters.”

Headline:  Ebola death toll stands at 5,000 in W Africa: WHO

More than 90 people including U.N. peacekeepers were quarantined across Mali’s capital on Wednesday after a 25-year-old nurse died of Ebola having treated a Guinea man who succumbed with Ebola-like symptoms that were not recognized. The man, a Muslim imam from the border town of Kouremale, was never tested for Ebola. In a series of rites that may have exposed many mourners to the deadly virus, his highly contagious body was washed in a Bamako mosque and returned to Guinea for burial without precautions against Ebola. The World Health Organization said there were now four confirmed and probable Ebola deaths in Mali, adding that one was a friend who had visited the imam in hospital. The group did not give immediate details of the fourth case. A doctor at the Pasteur Clinic where the nurse worked – one of Bamako’s top medical centers and the default clinic for expatriates – is also suspected to have contracted Ebola and is being monitored. About 20 U.N. peacekeepers who were at the clinic for injuries sustained while serving in the turbulent north of Mali were quarantined as a precaution, the U.N. mission said, without specifying their nationalities.

Headline:  National Cathedral to Host First Muslim Prayer

Washington National Cathedral is hosting a Muslim prayer service for the first time on Friday. Planners say they hope Friday’s service at the historic cathedral will foster more understanding and acceptance between Christians and Muslims around the world. The prominent Episcopal cathedral often hosts national events, such as presidential funerals, and has hosted Muslims at various interfaith services in the past. But planners say this is the first time the cathedral has invited Muslims to lead their own prayers there, which they call a “powerful symbolic gesture.” Planners say the prayer service developed after the cathedral’s liturgical director met South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool while planning the national memorial service for Nelson Mandela.
