Headline: U.S. need to step up its Arctic game

For anyone living in the Northern Hemisphere, it's been a sweltering few weeks. In fact, last month was the fifth hottest June in recorded history. According to government data, for 340 consecutive months – more than 28 years – the earth has been warmer than historic averages.

And take a look at what's happening in one of the coldest parts of the world – way up north in the Arctic.

Twenty-eight years ago, the Arctic was covered by ice throughout the year, as it had been for centuries. Now, every summer, two-thirds of it melts to water. In 2010, only four commercial ships were allowed to sail the Northern Sea Route, which connects northwestern Europe to northeastern Asia through the Arctic. In 2011, that number rose to 34 and then 46 the next year. This year, with five months still to go, more than 200 ships have already been given the green light to sail.

Pastor Who is this bum?
Pastor1111

Pastor Jeremiah Steepek (pictured above) transformed himself into a homeless  person and went to the 10,000 member church that he was to be introduced as the head pastor at that morning. He walked around his soon to be  church for 30 minutes while it was  filling with people for service….only 3 people out of the 7-10,000  people said hello to him. He asked people for change to buy food….NO  ONE in the church gave him change. He went into the sanctuary to sit  down in the front of the church and was asked by the ushers if he would  please sit n the back. He greeted people to be greeted back with stares  and dirty looks, with people looking down on him and judging him.

  As he sat in the back of the church, he listened to the church  announcements and such. When all that was done, the elders went up and  were excited to introduce the new pastor of the church to the  congregation…….."We would like to introduce to you Pastor Jeremiah  Steepek"….The congregation looked around clapping with joy and  anticipation…..The homeless man sitting in the back stood up…..and  started walking down the aisle…..the clapping stopped with ALL eyes on him….he walked up the altar and took the microphone from the elders  (who were in on this) and paused for a moment….then he recited

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are  blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for  you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me  something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I  was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed  me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to  visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see  you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
  “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of  the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

After he recited this, he looked towards the congregation and told them all what he had experienced that morning…many began to cry and many  heads were bowed in shame…. he then said….Today I see a gathering of people……not a church of Jesus Christ. The world has enough people,  but not enough disciples…when will YOU decide to become disciples? He  then dismissed service until next week…….Being a Christian is more  than something you claim. I'ts something you live by and share with  others.

    Re. “Who Is This Bum — WOW!! What an excellent article and a lesson for people to learn and have a change of heart for the poor.
    From an early age I have always had a heart for the poor. My parents were like that even though we were not rich neither am I today, and whenever we had beggars come to the door or see a poor person sitting and begging on the street, my dad would always give them food or money. He told me then, “never send a beggar away empty handed or ignore one on the street for you never know, that same person can be Jesus Himself or an Angel sent from Heaven as a test of your kindness”. This had stuck in my mind from a very early age.
    However, in 1995 my dad died, the very next day after his burial @ noon a beggar comes to the door and starts praying. After he finished, he never asked for anything and started to walk away, I ran out and said “wait, don’t go, come and eat it’s lunch time”. He said “thank you” and came. I made him sit in the living room, pulled the coffee table towards him, got him a plate of food and a glass of water. He prayed again, blessed the food and ate. I asked him if he would like some more – He replied “no thank you, I am satisfied” He prayed again and said “bye”. I told him “wait a second”, ran to my purse got him a handful of change and put it in his hand, He “thank you”, then blessed me and the few friends and family members in the living room and left. I then took the plate and glass to the kitchen and returned to the living room which took only maybe 10 seconds. An instinct made me go out to the road to see this beggar, he was nowhere to be seen. I asked the few neighbors including some young boys playing, “which way did the beggar go that just left my house” – They all said looking at one another “what beggar?” I was surprised at their question, so I described the beggar – they shook their heads, and said “this is a strait road and we have been out here quite long – we saw no beggar”.
    I ran inside the house and told my mother this and she said to me ” I found it very, very strange that a beggar should come to the door and today of all days, because its been years that beggars don’t come to the doors any more, the gov. takes care of them now. (This is back home I’m talking about not North America.)
    It’s been 18 years since this beggar came to our door, blessed us and left, just where did he go and who was he? I have no answer, only the our Precious MESSIAH YAHSHUA knows. However, I continue to bless the poor and will do so until my last day on earth. Just wanted to share this – Be Blessed All who read it.

    Here’s a beautiful poem I’m sharing that I just remembered:
    THE BLESSED GUEST
    Before the Cathedral in grandeur rose
    At Ingelburg where the Danube goes;
    Before its forest of silver spires
    Went airily up the clouds and fires;
    Before the oak had ready a beam,
    While yet the arch was stone and dream –
    There where the altar was later laid,
    Conrad, the cobbler, plied his trade……
    It happened one day at the year’s white end,
    Two neighbors called on their old-time friend;
    And they found the shop, so meager and mean,
    Made gay with a hundred boughs of green.
    Conrad was stitching with face ashine,
    But suddenly stopped as he twitched a twine;
    === ‘Old friends, good news! At dawn today,
    As the cocks were scaring the night away,
    The Lord appeared in a dream to me,
    And said, “I’m coming your Guest to be!”
    So I’ve been busy with feet astir,
    Strewing the floor with branches of fir.
    The wall is washed and the shelf is shined,
    And over the rafter the holly twined.
    He comes today, and the table is spread
    With milk and honey and wheaten bread.’==
    His friends went home; and his face grew still
    As he watched for the shadow across the sill.
    He lived all the moments o’er and o’er,
    When the Lord should enter the lowly door –
    The knock, the call, the latch pulled up,
    The lighted face, the offered cup,
    === He would wash the feet where the spikes had been,
    He would kiss the hands where the nails went in,
    And then at last would sit with Him
    And break the bread as the day grew dim.===
    While the cobbler mused there passed his pane
    A beggar drenched by the driving rain.
    He called him in from the stony street
    And gave him shoes for his bruised feet.
    The beggar went and there came a crone,
    Her face with wrinkles of sorrow sown.
    A bundle of fagots bowed her back,
    And she was spent with the wrench and rack.
    He gave her his loaf and steadied her load
    As she took her way on the weary road.
    Then to his door came a little child,
    Lost and afraid in the world so wild,
    In the big, dark world. Catching it up,
    He gave it the milk in the waiting cup,
    And led it home to its mother’s arms,
    Out of the reach of the world’s alarms.
    The day went down in the crimson west
    And with it the hope of the Blessed Guest,
    And Conrad sighed as the world turned gray:
    ‘Why is it LORD, that your feet delay?
    Did YOU forget that this was the day?’
    Then soft in the silence a Voice he heard:
    === ‘Lift up your heart, for I kept my word.
    Three times I came to your friendly door;
    Three times my shadow was on your floor.
    I was the beggar with the bruised feet;
    I was the woman you gave to eat;
    I was the child on the homeless street!’===
