Khamenei Repeats Israel ‘Rabid Dog’ Insult in Eid al-Fitr Speech. Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday called Israel a “rabid dog” for its attacks on Gaza, and urged Muslims to arm Palestinians to enable them to counter what he termed genocide.  Of Israel, he said: “This rabid dog, this rapacious wolf, has attacked innocent people and humanity must show a reaction. This is genocide, a catastrophe of historical scale.”

Headline: IDF hits over 70 Gaza targets in overnight strikes Headline:Heavy airstrikes pound Gaza after soldiers’ deaths

The IDF struck over 70 targets in Gaza overnight between Monday and Tuesday, including the home and offices of Ismail Heniyeh, head of Hamas’s political wing. Both buildings were used as a command center to manage terrorism, the IDF said.  Four mosques used to store weapons, a terrorism tunnel, and an underground rocket launcher located near a mosque were also attacked, the IDF added. Early on Tuesday morning, the air force hit a complex used by Hamas’s finance ministry that is used to manage and finance terrorism. The IDF also hit Hamas’s Al-Aqsa television and radio stations, used to incite against Israel, pass along messages to Hamas members, and to instruct civilians to ignore IDF warnings about the need to vacate areas in Gaza, the army said. Ten terrorists were killed in targeted strikes, the army added. Paratroopers came under fire from a Hamas cell inside Gaza, and returned fire, striking the gunmen. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concern about the reports of Israeli forces dropping leaflets over northern Gaza Monday evening warning tens of thousands of residents to leave their homes and evacuate to Gaza City, according to a statement released by his spokesman. “If true, this would have a further devastating humanitarian impact on the beleaguered civilians of those areas of the Gaza Strip, who have already undergone immense suffering in recent days,” it said. “The United Nations agencies present in Gaza do not have the resources on the ground to cope with, or provide assistance to, an enormous extra influx of desperate people.”

Headline: Hamas denies agreeing to 72-hour cease-fire

PLO official Yasser Abd Rabbo on Tuesday said all Palestinian factions were prepared to announce a unilateral 72-hour cease-fire in fighting between Israeli and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to Rabbo, the announcement was made with the consent of Hamas. However, Hamas spokespersons have denied these reports and said they do not agree with this announcement and that a cease-fire cannot exist when Israeli forces are inside Gaza. Israel did not immediately respond to the remarks. Earlier on Tuesday, Al-Arabia reported that a delegation comprised of various Palestinian factions reportedly arrived Tuesday in Cairo for talks on an Egyptian cease-fire initiative proposed two weeks ago to quell the fighting between Hamas and Israel. The delegation – including representatives from the Palestinian Authority, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad – was slated to meet with Egyptian officials to discuss the draft truce, which Hamas and Islamic Jihad previous rejected and Israel accepted.

The titular head of Hamas’s military wing sent out a fiery missive Tuesday night, claiming his forces are “eager for death” and saying the terror group would not cease fighting until Israel lifted its blockade on Gaza. “Israeli soldiers are up against soldiers who are eager for death and united forces,” Mohammed Deif said in a recorded message broadcast on Hamas’s al-Aqsa TV. “The steadfastness of the Palestinian people is what will bring victory on the battlefield. The enemy is sending its soldiers to certain disaster.” Deif became commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades in July 2002

Headline: Son of Hamas Founder is a Christian Convert, Says Militants Target Civilians

The son of one of founding members of Hamas has spoken out against the militant organization and the way the group targets civilians.  Mosab Hassan Yousef is a Christian convert and author of Son of Hamas. In an interview with CNN, he said Hamas militants seek to take over the Middle East, and do not care how many lives are lost in order to do so.  “Hamas does not care about the lives of Palestinians, does not care about the lives of Israelis or Americans. They don’t care about their own lives. They consider dying for the sake of their ideology a way of worship,” Yousef said.  Though groomed from a young age to become a Hamas militant, Yousef became disenchanted with the mission of the group and adopted Christianity, losing everything he had in the process.  “In the mosques, Hamas taught us that without shedding innocent blood for the sake of the ideology, we wouldn’t be able to build an Islamic state. They were preparing us from the age as young as five years old. This is the ideology that Hamas was feeding us. And honestly it’s impossible almost for anybody to break through and see the truth and real face of Hamas and be able to leave at some point. As you see in my case, I had to lose everything just to say no to Hamas. And today when I look at the children of Gaza and I know what they’re fed, I know that they have no choice,” Yousef said.

Headline: Hamas’ first nocturnal rocket attack on Tel Aviv

Headline: Pull out troops or give army new mission, IDF officer says

The Palestinians launched their first rocket attack by night on metropolitan Tel Aviv. One rocket exploded in Rishon Lezion. Israel retaliated by bombing the empty residence of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniya. Tuesday morning began with another massive Hamas barrage on Tel Aviv, Holon, Bat Yam, Yavne, Ness Ziona, Ashdod, Kiryat Malachi, Gedera, Rosh Ha’ayin and Rishon Lezion. One former general after another with vast experience in warfare against Palestinian terrorists, including the former defense minister and chief of staff, Shaul Mofaz, continue to warn Israel’s war leaders that leaving Israeli troops in stationary positions exposes them to attack. “An army must advance,” said ex-Gen. Israeli Sieff, former commander of the Gaza Division. “Treading in place puts them in danger.”

A spokesman of the Somali Islamist terror group Al-Shabaab said in a sermon that Muslims must attack Jewish targets around the world in response to Israel’s conflict with Hamas. The spokesman, Sheikh Ali Dhere, blamed all the “nations of unbelief” who participated in the “aggression against Gaza,” such as “the Americans who stood by the Jews in their aggression against the Muslims in Gaza.” Dhere also blamed the United Nations for “protecting global unbelief” and for making do with “standing by as witnesses and condemning the crimes committed by the Jews in Gaza.” “The Jews are spread out throughout the world, and the Jews’ properties are spread everywhere. In light of this, the Muslims must attack the Jews and their properties in every place, and they must pray for their brothers in Gaza,” he said, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute

Democratic and Republican members of Congress scrambled Tuesday to seal a $225 million boost to Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system before they break this week for a month-long recess. Headline: Israeli Official To Obama: ‘Leave Us Alone’

Headline: Bennett: The world needs to step aside and let us finish the job

A top Israeli official wants President Barack Obama to stop meddling with the Jewish state during its conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Speaking to Israel’s Army Radio, Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel criticized Obama telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that there should be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. “Leave us alone,” Ariel told Army Radio, directing his words at Obama. “Go focus on Syria.” Ariel told Army Radio that Israel’s offensive should be more aggressive. “It was obvious that international pressure would mount eventually,” Ariel stated. “We should have acted faster, harder and with more determination. The rocket threat needs to be tackled. The tunnel threat is being addressed, but it is not enough.” Ariel claimed that the pressure from the White House for an immediate ceasefire was “outrageous” and would “help Hamas,” according to Breitbart News. “We never thought it would be the Americans who would lead the pressure,” Ariel told Army Radio.

Damning evidence has emerged of US President Barack Obama’s dismissal of Israel’s position in favor of supporting the position of Hamas and its allies during ceasefire talks. A “senior US official” leaked an audio recording of a telephone conversation between Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to Channel One. In it the 35-minute conversation, which took place on Sunday, the US President appears downright hostile at points, and even cuts off Netanyahu in the middle of his protestations over a one-sided truce proposal which would have seen Hamas receive all its key demands, but that Israel ultimately rejected. The following is an excerpt of the conversation, published in Hebrew by Channel One.

Syrian rebels pressed their advance Tuesday in the central province of Hama, as they tried to take out its military airport, a rebel commander and a monitor said. “The rebels are now nine kilometres (six miles) away from Hama military airport, which they want to put out of action,” said Rami Abdel Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. A rebel leader in the area, Yusef al-Hassan, said the airport was important because “that is where the regime makes its barrel bombs, and warplanes take off from there to carry out air strikes”. Barrel bombs have killed hundreds of civilians, especially in rebel areas of the divided northern city of Aleppo, in recent months.

The UK is to send a “full battle group” of 1,350 military personnel for exercises in Poland, amid rising tension with Russia over Ukraine. They will take part in Nato manoeuvres in October to support allies in Eastern Europe, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said during a trip to Warsaw. It is the UK’s largest such commitment to the region since 2008. Mr Fallon said Britain was playing a “central role” in responding to Russian actions in Ukraine. Some 350 armoured and other vehicles will be involved in the October exercises, known as Black Eagle. The UK has already sent RAF Typhoon jets to support Nato in the region following Russia’s annexation of Crimea and British personnel have taken part in small-scale Army exercises. The Black Eagle exercises will take place in addition to an already announced Nato exercise in Poland, Sabre Junction, in which UK troops will take part in August.

Headline:   Fighting in eastern Ukraine reportedly leaves 22 civilians dead

Headline: Ukraine claims more territory as fight intensifies with rebels
At least 22 civilians were killed Tuesday by shelling in two conflict-stricken cities in eastern Ukraine, local authorities said. The use of unguided rockets in fighting between government forces and pro-Russian separatist rebels has been taking a noticeably heavier toll in recent weeks and been criticized by rights groups. With turmoil raging across a wide swathe of the region, international investigators were again prevented Tuesday from visiting the site of the Malaysia Airlines jet shot down earlier this month. City hall in Luhansk, which is controlled by separatist rebels, said Tuesday that five people were killed when an old people’s home was struck by artillery fire. Russian television showed images of bodies in wheelchairs covered with blankets. Ukraine security spokesman Andriy Lysenko said that rebels had blocked the railroad out of Luhansk, barring residents from leaving the city.

Headline: Iraq insurgents destroy key bridge

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria destroyed on Tuesday a key bridge on the highway leading north from Baghdad, a move that could further hamper Iraqi government efforts to battle jihadists. The destruction of the bridge, just south of the city of Samarra, cuts a vital supply line for the Iraqi army and will further dampen its hopes of retaking the city of Tikrit, further north. “Daash militants detonated a suicide truck bomb on the bridge over the Tharthar canal, destroying two spans,” a police colonel told AFP, using the Arabic acronym for the former name of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). An army source also said the bridge, guarded by army checkpoints at both ends, was destroyed.
The attack leaves the army and allied Shiite militias with only a secondary road that passes over Samarra dam bridge and is not suitable for the heaviest military vehicles.

Libyan forces on Tuesday battled Islamist militants with rockets and warplanes for control of an army base in the eastern city of Benghazi after at least 30 people were killed in overnight fighting. Intense fighting in Benghazi, Libya’s second city, and battles between rival militias in the capital Tripoli have pushed Libya deeper into chaos after two weeks of the fiercest violence since the 2011 civil war ousted Muammar Gaddafi. The area is near the Mount Chaambi region, where for more than a year and a half Tunisian security forces have been hunting Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists who have launched bloody attacks on the army.

It asked him to hand back the award, granted for Middle East peace efforts. Turkey’s ambassador to the US said Mr Erdogan would be “glad” to do so. Ambassador Serdar Kilic said Mr Erdogan should not be expected to turn a blind eye to Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank. “Attempts to depict Prime Minister Erdogan’s legitimate criticisms of the Israeli government’s attacks on civilians as expressions of anti-Semitism is an obvious distortion and an effort to cover up the historical wrongdoings of the Israeli government,” Mr Kilic said in a letter quoted by the Turkish news website Hurriyet.

Headline:  Nigeria Quarantines Hospital as Ebola Spreads to Most Populous City

Nigeria has evacuated and quarantined a hospital in the city of Lagos after a patient died from Ebola, the first reported case to reach one of Africa’s most densely-populated countries. The number of Ebola cases continues to climb in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, where the virus has infected 1,201 people and claimed 672 lives since it was first reported in West Africa in February, according to the World Health Organization. But the emergence of the disease in Lagos, a city of 21 million people, has officials fearing a greater challenge to containment. Nigerian officials said that they were monitoring 59 people who came into contact with Sawyer, including doctors, nurses and people at the airport. However, the airline on which he arrived in Lagos had not yet released the names of passengers. Meanwhile, Obama administration officials said that U.S. President Obama was being updated regularly about the outbreak. Calling it a “very worrying epidemic,” National Security Advisor Susan Rice said the U.S. would continue to assist local and international efforts to combat the spread of the virus.

Headline: Flesh-Eating Disease Warning in Florida

Florida health officials are warning beachgoers about a seawater bacterium that can invade cuts and scrapes to cause flesh-eating disease. Vibrio vulnificus –- a cousin of the bacterium that causes Cholera –- thrives in warm saltwater, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If ingested, it can cause stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. But it can also infect open wounds and lead to “skin breakdown and ulceration,” according to the CDC. “Since it is naturally found in warm marine waters, people with open wounds can be exposed to Vibrio vulnificus through direct contact with seawater,” the Florida Department of Health said in a statement. At least 11 Floridians have contracted Vibrio vulnificus so far this year and two have died, according to the most recent state data. In 2013, 41 people were infected and 11 died. The proportion of skin and gastrointestinal infections in Florida is unclear, but a CDC spokesman said the ratio tends to be about 1-to-1. Florida isn’t the only state to report Vibrio vulnificus infections. Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi have also recorded cases, and a 2013 outbreak linked to contaminated shellfish sickened at least 104 people in 13 states, according to the CDC.

Headline: Cholera Kills Over 200 in Northern Cameroon

A cholera epidemic has hit northern Cameroon, killing more than 200 people in less than a month.  The government of the central African nation and aid agencies say some of the affected persons are refugees fleeing the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram. Cameroon’s Far North regional delegate for public health, Dr. Rebecca Djao, says the death toll from cholera in hospitals has surged to more than 100 and deaths out of hospital are also estimated at more than a hundred. The epidemic follows heavy rains that triggered flooding. Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health Andre Mama Fouda  told VOA a majority of people infected with the disease are children under the age of five and women.

For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due”(Romans)

Headline: US federal appeals court upholds judge’s ruling that gay marriage ban is unconstitutional

Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, one of more than 20 legal decisions around the country favouring gay marriage proponents since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the Defence of Marriage Act last year. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond is the second federal appellate court to overturn gay marriage bans, after the Denver circuit, and is the first to affect the South, where states’ rights have held particular sway for generations. More than 70 cases have been filed in all 31 states that prohibit same-sex marriage. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia allow such marriages.

Headline:     Big Brother’ airport installs world’s first real-time passenger tracking system

All mobile phones logged into the Wi-Fi network at Helsinki Airport will be monitored by an in-house tracking system that identifies passengers’ real-time movements. The technology has been criticised by privacy advocate groups, but is said to be aimed at monitoring crowds and preventing bottlenecking at the airport, which sees around 15 million passengers a year, Bloomberg reports. About 150 white boxes, each the size of a wireless internet router, have been placed at various points around the airport. Equipped with tracking technology from the Finland-based retail analytics company Walkbase, each device is designed to collect the “unique identifier numbers” of all mobile phones which have Wi-Fi access switched on. Users wanting access to the WiFi network will be notified of the monitoring system before they log in to the network.

Headline: Third Massive Hole appears in Earth sparking Fears

It’s a little disconcerting to see massive holes opening up in the Earth, no matter the reason. A trio of large craters have formed in Siberia just days apart, and scientists are trying to figure out why it’s happening. According to the Moscow Times, the first two holes were found about 18 miles apart. Hole No. 1 was more than 160 feet wide and about 230 feet deep. The report adds that the second hole was much smaller. Now, a third hole has been discovered, east of the first two holes, in the Taymyr Peninsula, the Daily Mail reports. This hole is just 13 feet wide, the smallest of the three. Although the Yamal Peninsula is Russia’s biggest production area for the country’s gas supply to Europe, experts don’t believe any of the three holes were created by oil-production practices, the report also states. So what’s causing gigantic these holes to form? Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Center scientist Anna Kurchatova told the Siberian Times. As the globe has warmed, she said, the ice is melting and the gas is being released, causing an effect like a champagne cork popping off a bottle. These underground explosions are causing the holes, Kurchatova believes.

Headline: Tornado Confirmed in Limington, Maine

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the town of Limington, Maine. Meteorologist Tom Hawley said a team is in the field Tuesday to make measurements and to track the tornado’s path. Trees were uprooted, power lines were knocked down and a teenage boy was struck by lightning in Naples as the thunderstorm roared through the area Monday. Tornadoes are supposed to be a rarity in Maine but there have been several recent reports of twisters.  Earlier this month, a tornado touched down in St. Albans. Hawley said there also were reports Sunday of a waterspout over Sebago Lake but it caused no damage and couldn’t be confirmed.
