Headline: Hamas to March with Fatah in PA Nakba Events
For the first time in nearly a decade, Hamas will take full part in “Nakba” events set to take place in Palestinian Authority-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria today. Hamas terrorists will take full part in the Nakba events in major PA cities, and will be allowed to display their flags and rally supporters openly. The “Nakba”, Arabic for “disaster”, is commemorated annually on the 15th May in PA-controlled areas and by anti-Zionist groups across the world (including Arab and far-left groups in Israel), the day in 1948 that Israel was declared a state. It commemorates the failure of the combined Arab armies and paramilitary forces to smother the Jewish state at birth, and the founding of the State of Israel. A major theme of Nakba Day commemorations is the “refugee issue” – remembering the roughly 700,000 Arabs who fled their homes as the result of the fighting.

Headline: Two Palestinians killed at Nakba Day protest in West Bank
Two Palestinians were shot dead by Border Police at a Nakba protest outside the Ofer Military Prison near Ramallah, Palestinians reported Thursday. At least eleven others were injured, including a minor with serious wounds. They were transferred to hospital in Ramallah for treatment. Hospital officials said Muhammad Abu Thahr, 22, and Nadim Nuwara, 17, were both shot in the chest outside Israel’s Ofer Prison near the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. According to Palestinian sources, they were shot with live ammunition. The Israeli military said that rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas, not live ammunition, were used at the site of the incident. The Israel Defense Forces has launched an investigation. Thousands of Palestinians marked Nakba Day on Thursday with rallies throughout the West Bank cities of Ramallah, Nablus, Bethlehem and Hebron. There were clashes reported with Israeli forces in Ramallah and Hebron. Four Palestinians were detained on suspicion of throwing stones at a 200-strong protest in Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City. Headline: PM Says ‘Jewish Nation-State Bill’ is Israel’s Answer to ‘Nakba’
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu toured a sport complex being built in Jerusalem Thursday and slammed the Palestinian Authority (PA) Arabs who were rioting to commemorate “Nakba Day.” “Not far from here,” he said, “the Palestinian Authority is marking what they call Nakba Day. They stand in silence to mark the catastrophe of the establishment of Israel, the state of the Jewish nation. They educate their children in endless propaganda, that they must cause the disappearance of the state of Israel. “We have many answers to this,” Netanyahu promised. “The first is that we continue to build our state and our united capital of Jerusalem, and we will also give an additional answer to the Nakba – we will pass the ‘Jewish Nation-State Bill’ that makes clear to the entire world that Israel is the state of the Jewish people.”

In response to the killing of two Palestinians near Ramallah on Thursday, the Palestinian Authority was considering halting security coordination with Israel, a senior Palestinian official told Palestinian news agency Ma’an. “Israel has escalated the situation with the killing of two youths with live ammunition, in addition to the suppression of other demonstrations throughout the West Bank marking the 66th Nakba Day,” the official was quoted as saying. The two young men were killed in violent clashes with security forces on the day that Palestinians lament the establishment of Israel.

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel arrived in Israel on Wednesday night, after visiting Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Hagel was greeted at Ben-Gurion International Airport by senior Israeli Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro. During his two-day visit to Israel, Hagel will meet with his Israeli counterpart, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, as well as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres. In Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, Hagel reassured Persian Gulf allies that the U.S. remained committed to their defense. Hagel’s visit — his third to Saudi Arabia in the past year — was designed to calm Gulf states that feel vulnerable to Iran’s influence and are frustrated with U.S. policy on Syria. Hagel attended a meeting in Jeddah of defense ministers from Gulf states allied with the U.S., including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Later on Wednesday, Hagel made a stop in Jordan to meet with military officials there before continuing on to Israel.

Headline: Khamenei: Israel the ‘Most Wicked Terrorists’ in the World
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday once again launched an attack on Israel and accused its government of being “wicked terrorists”. Khamenei’s latest attack on the Jewish state came in a series of tweets on the occasion of Nakba Day, on which Arabs mark what they see as a the “catastrophe” of Israel’s establishment. “#Israel was initially established thru oppression, massacre & lie; an invader aided by UK expelled #Palestinians out of their homes,” read one tweet. “Palestinians’ homes & land were given by force to ppl [sic] from Europe, US etc. & they fabricated a fake nation in #Palestine,” read another one. “During the over half a century since the existence of #fake Israeli state, suppression, lies & deception have been central to Israel’s survival,” Khamenei wrote, adding, “Then the US president shamelessly says that: to prevent terrorism we cooperate with Israel!” “Which terrorists?! The Palestinian who’s been driven out of his homeland?! No! The most wicked #terrorists of the world is fake Israeli govt [sic],” read yet another tweet by the Supreme Leader. The Twitter attack on Israel is simply the latest in an ongoing rhetoric used for years by Khamenei and other Iranian leaders.

Headline: Kerry: Door remains open to peace talks
US Secretary of State John Kerry will meet later Thursday with Israel’s chief peace negotiator Tzipi Livni in London, a US official said. The meeting comes a day after the top US diplomat met with Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas in the wake of the collapse last month of Kerry’s dogged bid to broker a peace deal. “Secretary Kerry will have an informal meeting with Israeli Justice Minister Livni this afternoon,” a senior State Department official said. The Israeli minister is in London for a previously scheduled trip, and US officials have been keen to downplay any hopes of a breakthrough in the stymied peace process. On Wednesday Kerry – who is in the British capital for talks on Syria – stressed to Abbas that the fate of the talks lies in the hands of the Israelis and Palestinians. Kerry “reiterated the need for any Palestinian government to recognize Israel, commit to non-violence, and abide by previous agreements,” a US official said in a statement. He also “urged both sides to refrain from unhelpful steps”.

Headline: Kerry says has seen raw data that suggests Syria used chlorine in gas attacks
Syria emphatically denied on Wednesday that it had carried out chlorine gas attacks against civilians, a month after activists said that over 100 people were killed in a chlorine gas attack in the town of Talmenes in Idlib Province. The United Nations Security Council has called for an investigation into the alleged chlorine attack, and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons which is overseeing the destruction of Syria’s chemical arms stockpile has sent a mission to Syria to investigate the allegations. On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said that the Syrian regime is believed to have used chemical weapons, including chlorine, in 14 attacks since late 2013. “I assure you 100% that chlorine gas has never been used by the government,” Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al Mekdad said in an exclusive interview with CNN on Wednesday. While Mekdad denied any chlorine attacks, he acknowledged that the government is not fighting lightly against opposition forces.

Headline: Sudan judge sentences Christian woman to death for apostasy
A Sudanese judge on Thursday sentenced a Christian woman to hang for apostasy, in a ruling which activists described as “abhorrent”. Born to a Muslim father, the woman was convicted under the Islamic sharia law that has been in force in Sudan since 1983 and outlaws conversions on pain of death. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, 27, is married to a Christian and eight months pregnant, human rights activists say. “We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged,” Judge Abbas Mohammed Al-Khalifa told the woman, addressing her by her father’s Muslim name, Adraf Al-Hadi Mohammed Abdullah. Khalifa also sentenced Ishag to 100 lashes for “adultery”. Under Sudan’s interpretation of sharia, a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man and any such relationship is regarded as adulterous.

He was hospitalized. Several then started throwing stones at the church. 7 or 8 Christians were injured and some physical damage was done – broken windows etc. The police didn’t show up for an hour.”

Headline: ‘Elevated Concerns’ for Wildfire Season Amid Calif., Texas Droughts
Already this year wildfires have run rampant across parts of California, exacerbated by the extended drought, and meteorologists worry that a very bad wildfire season may be in store for California and Texas. There are so many factors involved in determining how bad a fire season will end up being, it goes way beyond how bad the drought is, AccuWeather.com Western Weather Expert Ken Clark said. “Obviously with a drought, you tend to have much more fuel earlier in the season as the brush dries out quicker,” Clark said. “But by mid- to late-summer and early fall, dry is dry and the brush is usually dry by then, no matter how wet the winter was. The fact that many fires are started by man, not nature, also has to be considered.” There have been 24 major wildfire incidents in California since Jan. 1, 2014, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. This month, a fire, dubbed the Poinsettia Fire, raged in Carlsbad, California, destroying homes, inducing evacuations and forcing school cancellations.

Headline: Up to 21 dead, doctor says, as anti-China riots spread in Vietnam
Up to 21 people were killed in Vietnam, a doctor said on Thursday, and a huge foreign steel project was set ablaze as anti-China riots spread to the centre of the country a day after arson and looting in the south. The doctor at a hospital in central Ha Tinh province said five Vietnamese workers and 16 other people described as Chinese were killed on Wednesday night in rioting, one of the worst breakdowns in Sino-Vietnamese relations since the neighbors fought a brief border war in 1979. “There were about a hundred people sent to the hospital last night.
