Hamas Threatens to ‘Double Corona Patients in Israel’

Qatar offers $150M to support Gaza in coronavirus battle

Hamas has relayed messages to Egypt and Qatar threatening to “put half of the Israelis into shelters and increase the number of corona patients” if Qatari financial aid is not handed over to the Gaza Strip in the near future. The Lebanese Al Akhbar newspaper, which has reliable sources in Hamas, claims that in response to Hamas’ threats, Israel responded that it would not tolerate renewed attacks from the Gaza Strip. Hamas’ demands come as it seeks to increase aid to the Gaza Strip due to the state of emergency in dealing with the coronavirus and following fears that Qatari aid to Gaza will be postponed.

Netanyahu implores Gantz to join gov’t, vows to rotate as PM without tricks

Imploring Benny Gantz’s Blue and White Party to join the Likud in a national unity government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Saturday night to rotate as prime minister and to leave the role at the agreed transition date without “any shticks or tricks.” Netanyahu claimed in an interview on Channel 12 that the Likud and Blue and White had completed negotiations for what a national unity government would look like, and under which he would serve first as prime minister and would then be replaced by Gantz. “I will leave office on the agreed date,” Netanyahu said in a message to Gantz. “There will be no shticks and tricks. Millions of Israelis are waiting for us.”

Israeli forces open fire, killing Palestinian throwing rocks in West Bank

Israeli forces shot and killed a 32-year-old Palestinian man overnight Sunday who was hurling rocks at Israeli troops, the Palestinian health ministry and the Israeli military said. The military said it thwarted an attack – which has become a regular occurrence over the past days – and opened fire at a number of suspects who were throwing boulders at Israeli vehicles on a highway in central West Bank, near the town of Qaliqilya. It says one of the suspects, Sufian Khawaja, was killed while another was wounded and escaped. The troops launched a manhunt for the perpetrator in the Palestinian village of Ni’lin, west of Ramallah. Although the fugitive assailant was not located, the forces found rocks stacked in the vehicle of the perpetrator. Both perpetrators are believed to be in their 30s.

Guinea’s opposition says 10 killed in protests

Opposition activists in Guinea say at least 10 people have been killed in street clashes during Sunday’s controversial referendum on a new constitution. Critics said the vote was a ploy by President Alpha Condé to stay in power beyond his mandate. The deaths occurred in the capital, Conakry, where police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators. Opposition supporters attacked the police, burned polling centres and destroyed voting equipment. Mr Condé, 82, insists the new constitution will bring about positive reforms, especially for women.  Many people say they are worried about the vote taking place during the coronavirus outbreak. More than 30 people have been killed in months of opposition protests against the referendum.

Fed will make up to $4 trillion in loans to businesses to rescue the U.S. economy, Mnuchin says

Real Estate Billionaire Barrack Says Commercial Mortgages on Brink of Collapse

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that the Federal Reserve will play a key role in lending funds to businesses hurt by the coronavirus pandemic. “Working with the Federal Reserve — we’ll have up to $4 trillion of liquidity that we can use to support the economy,” Mnuchin told Fox News on Sunday. “Those are broad-based lending programs. … We can leverage our equity working with the Federal Reserve,” he said. The Treasury secretary said the plan is broad-based to help small and large businesses “get through the next 90 to 120 days,” he said. The bill would also include:  Small-business retention loans aimed at helping companies keep workers on their payrolls. This will cover about half the workforce, Mnuchin said. Payments will include two weeks’ worth of cash flow and some overhead. The loans will be forgiven if workers are not laid off. • Checks for Americans. The average check for a family of four will be $3,000, the Treasury secretary said. • Enhanced unemployment insurance for people who are laid off due to the pandemic.

Inside the US Military’s Plans to Stop “Civil Disturbances” Amid Coronavirus Pandemic, Something They Haven’t Done in 30 Years

DOJ Seeks New Emgergency Powers Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Deploying National Guard to New York, California and Washington

With the National Guard now active in 22 states and governors continuing to declare more severe emergency measures daily, the U.S. military is preparing forces to assume a larger role in the coronavirus response, including the controversial mission of quelling “civil disturbances” and enforcing the law, a mission that the military has not engaged in for almost 30 years. There have been no requests yet to use the National Guard for law enforcement, he made an argument that the states keep “decisions at their level,” out of federal hands, touting the 450,000 strong National Guard as “ready when their governors call.” But planners involved at the Pentagon and U.S. Northern Command, while admitting that the National Guard is the best choice if there is a public breakdown, also say that the Guard may not be able to be relied upon, not just because of the scope of need, but also because it is a citizen force spread out across America and thus as susceptible as the rest of the general population to contracting the virus. These conditions—the enforcement of federal law—don’t apply to the current situation, the senior planner says. The president can determine that the situation exceeds either the capabilities “or willingness” of local authorities to restore law and order, he says, but the very language, the inclusion of the “willingness” clause, shows how much the contingency planning is still written for yesterday’s crises and not applicable to coronavirus. “I’m just not sure that our troops, as good as they are, can be ready for something as widespread and explosive as COVID-19,” the planner says. At the same time, he worries that the presence of uniformed personnel on the streets of America, rather than providing a comforting presence will instead signal the use of federal force and martial law—just making the situation worse.

Israel corona app tells you when you’ve crossed paths with a carrier

The Health Ministry launched Sunday a phone app that enables people to instantly be informed if they have unknowingly crossed paths with a coronavirus victim so that they can quarantine themselves. Called HaMagen (“The Shield”), the app “allows you to get a notification (time and date) regarding your exposure to a confirmed patient” within the past 14 days, said the ministry in an accompanying statement. The application, available both in the Google Play store and Apple’s AppStore, is updated in real-time with the history of every new patient’s whereabouts. This way, people do not have to keep studying the ministry’s website to see if they were in the vicinity of someone who has tested positive. Upon opening the app, Health Ministry data is automatically cross-referenced with all the places people have been with their phones. If a match is made, the app “redirects the user to a link to the Health Ministry’s website, which will let you know what steps to take and allow you to report to the Health Ministry for home isolation.”

How to Add the Last Chronicles to your Electronic Device

Earlier today I posted a link to a video which showed a figure of Jesus in the clouds moving up and down over and over again.  Some of you went right over to the video and saw it but since I posted the video of this false Christ in the clouds that someone had made FaceBook has just put up the following message: Sorry, this content isn’t available right now.

Below is what I posted after I saw that video. You may want to read it in case the video starts playing again.

I can not believe people are falling for this trick either via a hologram or project Blue Beam. What was one of the first things Jesus warns us about. Matthew 24: And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Matthew 24: 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Jesus told us how He would come back. When Jesus does return the entire world will see him and declared in Revelation 1:Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Those of us who know God’s word know that Jesus will come in the clouds but, it won’t be as in the video where a select group of people see Him and, He will not come until the end of the tribulation. I wonder how many people in your church have seen this and believed it?

This is why it is so important to know what the Bible teaches us. The days of deception are upon us.

When you watch the video you will hear people praising God as they see this figure continely go up and down in the same exact fashion which is a pattern of a hologram would do. Do not fall for this trick.

I found it very interesting that there was a warning something like this false flag of Jesus was coming. That warning was issued in December of 2019 and look at what showed up!

In coronavirus lockdown, Lebanese banks turn off dollar tap for hard-hit depositors

Lebanon mulls using depositors’ funds to salvage crisis-hit banks

Since Lebanon was placed in lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus, cash-strapped banks have cut access to dollars for depositors already separated from much of their savings by months of tightening controls. The health ministry has recorded 163 infections from coronavirus so far and experts warn Lebanon’s healthcare system may be ill-prepared, as dollar shortages have for months drained it of critical supplies. The outbreak has compounded Lebanon’s woes, coming after it declared that it could not pay hefty debt obligations and needs foreign currency reserves for key imports. The financial crisis, which has hiked prices and weakened the local currency, pushed banks to cap cash withdrawals, some to as low as $100 per week.

New Iraq Group Claiming Attacks on US Troops says it can strike Israel

US-led coalition troops pull out of base in western Iraq

An Iraqi militia that has claimed a series of rocket attacks targeting U.S. and partnered troops has claimed its fighters were capable of striking Israel. In one of two videos posted Tuesday and Wednesday by what appeared to be a new Shiite Muslim militia calling itself Usbat al-Thayireen, or League of Revolutionaries, a masked man wielding a Kalashnikov-style assault rifle warned recent rocket strikes against Al-Taji and Basmaya military camps “and whatever will happen far beyond that” was just the beginning. “It is the least of the power that we can use against them,” the camo-clad figure said on the backdrop of an Iraqi flag, warning the group’s “victorious, blooming, prideful and dignified arsenal has far longer-range weapons that can kill you in the land of your spoiled child, Israel.” He then directly addressed President Donald Trump and the friends of the two U.S. personnel who were killed alongside a U.K. service member by Katyusha rocket fire at Al-Taji last week, urging them “to leave vertically before we force them to leave horizontally.”

Turkey retaliates after attack kills troops in Idlib

Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on March 19 that two of its soldiers were killed and another was injured in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib, in a rocket attack by “some radical groups”. In a written statement, the ministry said the radical groups in the de-escalation zone attacked Turkish soldiers, adding that its forces had opened fire on targets in the area. “Targets determined in the region immediately were taken under fire and retaliated in proportion,” the statement said. Meanwhile, in a Twitter post, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs and the Turkish nation. Turkey, which backs rebels opposed to Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, agreed to a ceasefire with Russia two weeks ago after months of fighting displaced nearly 1 million people in Idlib. Moscow supports the Syrian regime forces. The two were the first Turkish soldiers killed in Idlib since the ceasefire was implemented.

U.S. to Iran: Coronavirus won’t save you from sanctions

Trump told advisers hitting back at Iran during pandemic was bad optics

Iranian Escalation Timeline

The United States sent Iran a blunt message this week: the spread of the coronavirus will not save it from U.S. sanctions that are choking off its oil revenues and isolating its economy. Iran is the Middle Eastern nation worst hit by coronavirus, with its death toll climbing to 1,284 and one person dying from it every 10 minutes and 50 becoming infected every hour, the health ministry said. The United States, which argues that its “maximum pressure” campaign to curb Iran’s nuclear, missile and regional activities does not stop the flow of humanitarian goods, imposed new sanctions this week. The Trump administration blacklisted five companies based in the United Arab Emirates, three in mainland China, three in Hong Kong and one in South Africa for trade in Iran’s petrochemicals. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reportedly backed off a large-scale response against Iran following a deadly rocket attack in Iraq, over fears that doing so in the midst of the coronavirus crisis would harm his administration’s image. Trump made the comment to his top national security advisers in a meeting last week on possible responses to the attack by Iranian proxies, according to NBC News, citing former and current administration officials.

Bank of America says the recession is already here: ‘Jobs will be lost, wealth will be destroyed’

Bank of America warned investors on Thursday that a coronavirus-induced recession is no longer avoidable — it’s already here. “We are officially declaring that the economy has fallen into a recession … joining the rest of the world, and it is a deep plunge,” Bank of America U.S. economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note. “Jobs will be lost, wealth will be destroyed and confidence depressed.” The firm expects the economy to “collapse” in the second quarter, shrinking by 12%. GDP for the full year will contract by 0.8%, it said. Bank of America looked at the labor market as a way to understand the “magnitude of the economic shock.” The firm expects the unemployment rate to nearly double, with roughly 1 million jobs lost each month of the second quarter for a total of 3.5 million.

Paper money shunned for fear of virus spread

In a world suffering a pandemic, cash is no longer king. A growing number of businesses and individuals worldwide have stopped using banknotes in fear that physical currency, handled by tens of thousands of people over their useful life, could be a vector for the spreading coronavirus. Public officials and health experts have said that the risk of transferring the virus person-to-person through the use of banknotes is small. But that has not stopped businesses from refusing to accept currency and some countries from urging their citizens to stop using banknotes altogether. Experts say cash does carry a risk of transmitting the virus, but the risk from cash so far is small compared with other transmission routes. A scientific paper published early in the outbreak found the virus can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours and up to three days on plastic and stainless steel. The researchers, however, did not test whether it can live on banknote paper. The presence of live virus particles on banknotes does not mean they are a health hazard, public health experts said. Virus particles are unlikely to return to the air, or aerosolize, once on a surface.

Nigeria has fully become a killing field of defenseless Christians”: Muslims murder 350 in first months of 2020

A Nigerian civil society organization claims that no fewer than 350 Christians have been killed across the West African country since the start of 2020 and estimates that about 11,500 Christians have been killed since 2015. “Nigeria has fully become a killing field of defenseless Christians,” the Anambra-based nongovernmental organization International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) said this week in a new special report, titled “Nigeria: A Killing Field Of Defenseless Christians.” “Available statistics have shown that between 11,500 and 12,000 Christian deaths were recorded in the past 57 months or since June 2015 when the present central government of Nigeria came on board. Fatigue Will Be the Carrier of the Second Coronavirus Wave

Guard activations expected to rapidly increase, could be used for law enforcement

The new method, called pooling allows for the simultaneous testing of some 60 patients, which should “greatly increase” the rate at which infections are identified. Researchers at Israel’s Technion–Israel Institute of Technology and Rambam Health Care Campus have successfully tested a new method, called “pooling,” that they claim will dramatically increase the country’s ability to test for COVID-19. Because the method enables simultaneous testing of dozens of samples, its implementation will greatly accelerate the rate of COVID-19 testing and detection, according to the researchers. COVID-19 testing in Israel is currently focusing on symptomatic individuals, because the current rate of testing—about 1,200 a day—does not allow for monitoring of asymptomatic carriers in the population, though such monitoring is vital to curb the epidemic. Meanwhile, in America, The National Guard is expecting a rapid increase in unit activations over the next few weeks, leaders said at the Pentagon Thursday, filling roles like coronavirus testing and potentially law enforcement. Governors in 27 states have already activated elements of their National Guard forces, but everywhere in the country, state leaders have declared states of emergency, said Air Force Gen. Joseph L. Lengyel, chief of the National Guard Bureau.

Massive floods hit capital Dili, destroying nearly 200 homes and affecting over 25 000 people, East Timor

Several hours of very heavy rains caused widespread flooding in capital Dili, East Timor (Timor-Leste) on March 13, 2020. Authorities are reporting at least 25 000 people or 4 000 households are affected. Even though the floods have now receded, affected communities are still in need of essential relief items such as food and drinking water. Heavy downpours began striking the capital city of Dili on March 13, causing rivers to break their banks. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), at least 190 residential properties were completely destroyed and many others damaged. In addition, floods damaged or destroyed roads, bridges, electricity towers and other infrastructure. In addition, the newly-built Bridge BJ Habibie was destroyed just 7 months after the inauguration.

IDF: Hezbollah worked with Syrian troops to attack Israel on Election Day

An IDF investigation into an attempted attack on Israel on Election Day earlier this month has found that Hezbollah operatives worked with Syrian soldiers to carry it out from the Golan Heights. The inquiry into the thwarted attack near the village of Hader in the province of Qunietra found that Hezbollah attempted to attack IDF troops from a Syrian military compound in the demilitarized zone in the northern Golan Heights. On March 2, the IAF struck a vehicle, killing one man believed to be a Hezbollah operative. Syria’s SANA news agency reported that Israel struck Syrian government forces, wounding three soldiers and killing one civilian. In the weeks leading up to the thwarted attack, soldiers from IDF intelligence units identified suspicious movements by Hezbollah fighters and Syrian soldiers in sensitive locations in the area, “which indicated the planning of an attack,” the IDF said, adding that the operatives were seen filming the border with smartphones and cameras and measuring wind speed.

This is the third Knesset to be sworn in fewer than 12 months, due to an ongoing political impasse that has paralyzed the country’s government. Nevertheless, lawmakers quickly got to work, introducing a series of extraordinary bills designed specifically to remove Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from office. The first bombshell was sponsored by Knesset member Oded Forer of Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu Party. His bill would grant the Knesset the authority, with a simple majority and via a secret ballot, to oust an indicted prime minister heading a transitional government. Netanyahu is currently serving as de facto prime minister because three election cycles in a row have failed to produce a permanent government, and has been indicted in three corruption cases. So this legislation is specifically aimed at removing him from office.

Rabbis Praise Pope, Demand Return of Temple Menorah

A top Israeli rabbi this week related excitedly to the fact that Pope Francis had earlier in the month encouraged Christians to keep the Sabbath, just like the Jews. With the way things are now going, Rabbi Eliyahu said he “would not be surprised if soon the Pope “decides to return the Temple Menorah to us. Who knows, maybe even the Arabs will gain some sense and evacuate the Temple Mount so we can build the Temple there, understanding that the Temple is going to bring a blessing to the world.”

Coronavirus, oil price may dash Lebanon’s aid hopes

Lebanon announces two-week lockdown over coronavirus

The impact of the coronavirus and falling oil prices may have damaged Lebanon’s chances of securing aid from foreign states, the economy minister said on Tuesday, adding that IMF aid should be considered as an option alongside others. Lebanon is suffering its worst financial crisis since independence in 1943. It has been unable to pay foreign currency sovereign debt for the first time and its currency has lost some 40% of its value, while dollar reserves are critically low.

Syria opposition blocks Turkey-Russia patrols on M4 highway

Syrian Central Bank improvises to keep the economy afloat

Syrian opposition forces blocked the key M4 highway in the north-western province of Idlib yesterday, in efforts to prevent a joint Turkish-Russian military patrol from being conducted. Following at least a week of Turkey bombarding and retaliating against the forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in Idlib at the end of February, Russia and Turkey met for negotiations in Moscow on 5 March, striking an agreement to cease hostilities in the north-western province. Parameters of the deal included the establishment of a de-escalation zone stretching six kilometres either side of the M4 highway – 12 kilometres overall – in which joint Turkish-Russian patrols would operate from 15 March, the preservation of the Syrian regime’s territorial gains in the province, and most prominently a ceasefire between the regime and the opposition forces, along with both of their allies. There appeared popular resistance to the patrols from the local inhabitants, however, with large demonstrations and protests taking place around the highway expressing anger at the continuation of the regime’s and Russia’s occupational presence within the area. This resulted in the cancellation of the first patrol due last Sunday.

Russia to launch $4 bln fund to try to shield economy from coronavirus shock

The United States believes Russia killed dozens of Turkish soldiers during their military operations in war-torn Syria, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday. But Washington has continued to offer support to its NATO ally Turkey, Reuters quoted Pompeo as saying at a press conference at the U.S. State Department. The U.S. secretary of state gave no specific information on where or when the Turkish troops were killed. Ankara and Moscow, who back opposing sides in the Syrian conflict, earlier this month reached a ceasefire in the country’s last rebel-held Idlib province following intense fighting between Turkish-backed rebels and Syrian forces supported by Russia. The agreement followed the death of 36 Turkish troops in an air strike by Russian-backed Syrian government forces.

Erdoğan looking to cut deals with Putin, Trump on Syrian oil

Turkey unveils $15.5 billion stimulus package

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has set his sights on oil reserves in areas of Syria currently controlled by Kurdish-led groups and has proposed his idea to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Voice of America reported on Monday. Erdoğan said Syrian oil revenues could be used to rebuild the war-torn country after its nine-year conflict ends, adding that he had spoken of the idea with Putin who said it was possible, VoA’s Sirwan Kajjo reported. The Turkish president referred to energy reserves near Qamishli and Deir al-Zor, two areas in Syria that are under the control of the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) and its affiliates. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a $15.5bn stimulus package on Wednesday that seeks to revive the country’s economy and ease financial burdens on businesses and individuals impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Erdogan’s 21-point plan, dubbed the Economic Stability Shield, aims to protect small businesses, exporters, employees and pensioners affected by Turkey’s flagging economy. The package was announced after more than three hours of meetings with relevant ministers and representatives of labour and business unions, chaired by Erdogan himself.

Anti-government protests thwarted as Algeria bans street marches over coronavirus

Algerians say oil price crash shows need for reform

Algeria has banned street protests over the coronavirus, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Tuesday, bringing to an end a year of unprecedented mass demonstrations that brought down the veteran president and convulsed the state. “The lives of citizens are above all considerations even if this requires restricting some freedoms,” he said. Algeria has confirmed 60 cases of the coronavirus including five deaths, mostly in the town of Blida, south of the capital, and has restricted much foreign travel and closed mosques. The protest movement, known as the Hirak, exploded onto the streets in February 2019 as it became clear that octogenarian leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika would seek another term as president after 20 years in the job. Demonstrators quickly moved from demanding he step aside to insisting that the entire ruling elite that had run Algeria since independence from France in 1962 must also quit.

India Wins Defense Deal With Armenia in Bid to Chasten Turkey

Coronavirus Cases in Armenia reach 84

Armenia economy ministry ‘comprehensively’ analyzing situation as ruble plummets in oil market chaos

In a major success for India’s defense sector, India reportedly outbid Russia and Poland to win a $40 million defense deal to supply four indigenously-built military radars to Armenia. These radars, known as SWATHI, were developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Indeed, this deal is a major achievement for the “Make in India” program in the defense sector as it could open new opportunities in Europe for the sale of India’s indigenous systems, at lower costs than equivalent European systems. It could also help the Indian defense industry to make inroads into markets in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. But this deal has other strategic implications. It is clearly aimed at countering increasing hostility from Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan toward India.

Israeli Nobel Laureate: Coronavirus spread is slowing

Coronavirus Spreads To All 50 States As 1st Case Reported In West Virginia

We’ve got the coronavirus vaccine, says Pentagon-funded company

The coronavirus epidemic is slowing down in China, and will not pose a risk to the majority of people, an Israeli Nobel Prize laureate has said. Michael Levitt, an American-British-Israeli biophysicist who won the 2013 Nobel prize for chemistry for “the development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems,” has become something of a household name in China over the last few months. February 7, something changed. “The number of new infections started to drop linearly and did not stop,” Levitt said. “A week later, the same happened with the number of the deaths. This dramatic change in the curve marked the median point and enabled better prediction of when the pandemic will end. Based on that, I concluded that the situation in all of China will improve within two weeks. And, indeed, now there are very few new infection cases.”

A Never-Ending Shabbat

Israel has come to a standstill amid drastic measures aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. Among the first things to be closed were universities, schools and kindergartens. It’s not meant to be seen as a holiday, but that’s how the kids are taking it, at least so long as the government doesn’t completely lock us all down to our houses. Children on bikes are racing down the neighborhood streets, the playgrounds are full and the kids won’t stop nagging us to have sleepovers. After all, tomorrow there is no school! Meanwhile, many of us parents still need to go to work, creating a difficult situation. At least at Israel Today, we have the flexibility to work from home a day here and there to help with the children. My wife, however, works at the hospital, and might soon need to give overtime hours as the burden on Israel’s health care system increases. In our modern day and age, man feels more powerful and in control than ever before. But the coronavirus has knocked a bit of sense back into our heads. We aren’t nearly as in control as we imagine. I, for one, am not scared, or even worried. For me, this is where faith really kicks in. Our belief in and reliance on God as our ultimate protector and provider must by necessity now transcend the weekly church service. That doesn’t mean we won’t be touched by coronavirus or its societal effects. But it does mean we have no need to fear. If nothing else, this is a golden opportunity to teach our children this critical lesson in a very experiential way.

Gantz officially tasked with forming new government

Israel’s new parliament sworn in under special coronavirus conditions

Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin on Monday assigned the task of forming a new government to Blue and White Party chairman Benny Gantz, setting the wheels in motion for the possible end of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s record run as Israel’s longest serving leader. “The law gives you, sir, 28 days beginning tomorrow, to form a government,” Rivlin said at a ceremony where he handed Gantz the official papers authorizing him to form a coalition government. Both Gantz and Netanyahu failed to win enough seats in Israel’s March 2 elections to gain a majority in the Knesset, Israel’s 12-seat parliament. It was the third inconclusive trip to the polls for Israelis in less than a year after both leaders previously failed in attempts to form governments, forcing Israelis back to the ballot box. Although Netanyahu’s Likud Party won 36 seats to Gantz’s 33, the incumbent prime minister could only muster 58 votes in trying to build a coalition with smaller right-wing and religious parties. The breakthrough came on the weekend with the surprise announcement by the Joint List, an amalgamation of four largely Arab parties, that it would recommend to Rivlin that he choose Gantz to form a government.

Syrian Civil War Enters 10th Year

Syria’s bloody civil war enters its 10th year with the government of President Bashar al-Assad appearing to be consolidating his hold on power, backed by crucial military and political support from Russia and Iran. The conflict began when Syrians took to the streets on March 15, 2011, to protest against Assad’s government, which then launched a brutal crackdown that has led to a conflict that has killed more than 370,000 people and displaced millions. Geir Pedersen, the UN special envoy for Syria, said on the eve of the anniversary: “The suffering of the Syrian people during this tragic and terrible decade still defies comprehension and belief.” U.N. chief Antonio Guterres wrote on Twitter this week that “a decade of fighting has brought nothing but ruin and misery.” The conflict at times has resembled a proxy war among world powers, with Moscow and Tehran backing Assad while the United States and Turkey have supported differing rebel groups. The Islamic State (IS) militant group also entered the fray and were opposed by all other sides. They have been driven from most of their strongholds, although some extremists continue to hold out in Idlib Province in the northwest of the country.

US Moves Patriot Missiles To Iraq

Tensions rise after US launches retaliatory airstrikes on Iran-backed fighters in Iraq

With coronavirus pandemic dominating the world’s attention, it’s easy to forget that the US is essentially in a state of war with Iran, just Thursday night conducting a major aerial bombing campaign against multiple Iran-backed militia targets across southern Iraq. In response to prior rocket attacks on Camp Taji which killed two Americans on Wednesday the Pentagon declared that “all options are on the table” — suggesting there could be more strikes to come. The Pentagon said it initiated a “proportional” response against five Kata’ib Hezbollah weapons facilities. Iraq’s government immediately condemned the attacks as not only unauthorized violations of its airspace, but as having killed and wounded several Iraqi security force personnel. Top US forces general in the region, Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie, brushed Baghdad’s condemnation aside, essentially saying it was Iraqi forces’ fault for being there. Many officers in the Iraqi Army essentially see Khatib Hezbollah as a de facto extension of national forces.

Two US soldiers seriously injured after rocket attack on military base outside Baghdad – Pentagon

Analysts mull coalition strategy in spat with Iran-backed forces

Two of the three US military personnel injured in the latest rocket attack on Camp Taji base north of Iraq’s capital are being treated at a military hospital in Baghdad, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said Saturday. Earlier in the day, Iraqi military said a number of the nation’s soldiers had also been “critically injured” in the incident. The Taji base has come under rocket attacks twice in less than a week. On Wednesday, three soldiers, two from the US and one from the UK, were killed at the military installation, while a dozen others were injured. The US military blamed that attack on Iraqi Shia militias and launched retaliatory strikes, which killed at least six Iraqi military and police personnel.

Illinois mayor grants herself power to ban gun sales over coronavirus

Israel Takes Step toward Monitoring Phones of Virus Patients

In signing an executive order declaring a citywide state of emergency to address the coronavirus, the mayor of Champaign, Illinois also gave herself the power to ban the sale of firearms. Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen signed the executive order on Thursday. The order “comes with extraordinary powers for the mayor to enact over a short period of time as the city combats the spread of the coronavirus,” the Washington Examiner reported. Among the powers Feinen gained herself is the power to ban the sale of guns, ammunition, alcohol, and gasoline. Feinen could also cut off access to individuals’ gas, water, or electricity. The city also has the ability to “take possession of private property” or order the temporary closing of all bars or liquor stores. Jeff Hamilton, the city’s manager, told WAND, “The executive order allows the city to be flexible to properly respond to the emergency needs of our community. None of the options will necessarily be implemented but are available in order to protect the welfare and safety of our community if needed.” The Champaign City Council on Friday held a meeting to address concerns about the mayor’s order. Deputy Mayor Tom Bruno noted that each ordinance considered under the executive order would be ratified by the council. The city also released a statement claiming that the council and the mayor would only take steps “necessary to ensure the health, safety, and welfare” of the city.

Brawls and screaming matches break out at stores across the country as coronavirus panic buying intensifies and national emergency is declared

Disturbing footage has emerged on social media showing fights breaking out in stores across the country as panicked Americans rush to stock up on supplies amid the national coronavirus emergency. Two separate videos were posted from New York and Georgia on Thursday which showed intense and brutal fights erupting between tense customers battling through the crowds flooding into stores. A brawl erupted in a Georgia Sam’s Club packed with shoppers during which two feuding men slashed each other with broken wine bottles. A second incident in a Costco in Brooklyn saw an employee pleading with two women to calm down after a screaming match began when carts collided in the mobbed store.

Intense storms hits northwestern India, causing severe crop damage and claiming lives of at least 28 people

Very heavy rains accompanied by lightning and destructive hailstorms hit northwestern India, particularly Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, this week, causing severe crop damage and claiming the lives of at least 28 people. Meteorologists said the storms were triggered by a western disturbance — extratropical cyclonic storm originating in the Mediterranean Sea. The storms are following one of the coldest winter seasons on record. Delhi has already recorded its wettest March on record. Rains in and around Delhi started on Tuesday, March 10 and continued through Saturday, March 14, when the city recorded 37 mm (1.45 inches), according to data provided by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Other notable 24-hour March records are 56.8 mm (2.23 inches) on March 2, 2015, 27.2 mm (1.07 inches) on March 13, 2007 and 20.6 mm (0.81 inches) in March 2005 — making Saturday, March 14, the second-wettest March day on record.

Israel bans gatherings of more than 100 people in closed areas

Israeli-made oral vaccine for coronavirus on track, but testing will take months

On Wednesday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is instituting a ban on gatherings of more than 100 people in closed spaces. The prime minister took the unprecedented step in response to a public health crisis that the World Health Organization deemed a pandemic, days after Netanyahu made a similar announcement. The move comes a day after Israel announced that all arrivals to the country will be required to quarantine for 14 days, which the prime minister framed as a step to close the nation’s “outer envelope” of vulnerability to the virus. Netanyahu also told Israelis not to hug, kiss, or shake hands, reiterating that the corona crisis is a “pandemic” and referring to the virus as “a global plague.”

Arab media abuzz with reports that Hezbollah chief infected with coronavirus

On Wednesday, a United Arab Emirates-based reporter named Maria Maaloof posted to Twitter about Arab media reports claiming that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has the coronavirus. Nasrallah allegedly contracted the virus after hosting a delegation from Iran, which bankrolls his terror group. Iran has the highest concentration of virus cases in the Middle East, with the senior vice president and two other ministers reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19, the technical name for the illness caused by the virus.

Assad Regime Encourages Attacks on US Forces in Northern Syria

Syrian state media says unidentified jets hit border town with Iraq

In recent weeks, there have been direct and deadly clashes in northern Syria between Syrian government forces and the Turkish armed forces. The fighting broke out after Assad’s forces, aided by Russia and Iran-backed militias,  recaptured dozens of towns and villages in the rural areas west and northwest of Aleppo, which for many years had been under the control of Syrian rebels supported by Turkey and the Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham militia. On February 17, 2020, the Syrian regime even announced the reopening of the Damascus-Aleppo highway, and also of the Aleppo International Airport, which had been closed for the past eight years. The Assad regime blames not only Turkey but also the U.S. for the hostilities between the two countries, claiming that the U.S. is pushing Turkey toward an escalation in order to preserve its own interests in Syria. These accusations have been accompanied by an escalation of clashes in areas where U.S. forces are present: in northeast Syria and in the Al-Tanf area, near the Syria-Jordan-Iraq border junction. This escalation takes the form of provocations of the U.S. forces and the Syrian forces they support, such as blocking their way and firing on them, which in one case led to the wounding of an American soldier. Syrian elements have also threatened to increase the “popular resistance” against the U.S. forces in the country.

Iraq base attack: Strikes ‘kill 25’ Iran-backed fighters after troops killed

Trump gives Pentagon authority for potential response after deadly Iraq attack

At least 15 rockets struck Camp Taji, a coalition base housing U.S. troops in northern Baghdad, Iraq on Wednesday. Reports have indicated that two American and one British personnel were killed. Defense officials told the Associated Press that the three personnel considered of two U.S. troops and one British troop. Another U.S. official who spoke anonymously to the AP said as many as 30 rockets were fired at the base, 18 of which struck the base. Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherence Resolve spokesman Col. Myles B. Caggins III confirmed the attack in a tweet, saying, “3 Coalition personnel were killed during a rocket attack on Camp Taji, March 11.” “Approximately 12 additional personnel were wounded in the attack,” an OIR statement said. “Approximately 18 107mm Katyusha rockets struck the base. The Iraqi Security Forces found a rocket-rigged truck, a few miles from Camp Taji.”

Russia Girds for 16 More Years of Putin

On Wednesday, Russia’s upper house of Parliament approved a constitutional amendment that was introduced the day before in the lower house and then endorsed by Mr. Putin. The amendment would reset the clock on the Constitution’s limit of two presidential terms for Mr. Putin if he runs again in 2024. The Kremlin’s powerful propaganda machine swung into action. The possibility that Mr. Putin could rule for 16 more years, the refrain went, was what Russians needed to keep them safe. While Mr. Putin had been widely expected to look for a way to hold on to power, some Russians were looking ahead to 2024 as a possible moment of political renewal. The message in the pro-Kremlin news media Wednesday was that Mr. Putin had chosen a democratic path to preserving stability in Russia by keeping himself in power. Mr. Putin emphasized that the amendment allowing him to run again would need to be approved by the Constitutional Court and by a nationwide vote. The April 22 plebiscite had already been scheduled as a vote on other, less consequential constitutional amendments that Mr. Putin introduced earlier this year.

Greece Prepares for Big Push of Migrants, Claims Turkish Soldiers Open Fire at Border

Tensions between Greek and Turkish forces remain high along the border region with another report claiming that on Wednesday, Turkish special forces fired several shots in the direction of a Greek army vehicle on the other side of the border. The shots, which were fired above the Greek vehicle, come just days after another alleged incident involving a Greek patrol being shot at from the direction of Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who opened the border two weeks ago, met with European Union officials on Monday but neither side could reach a deal that would have Turkey close the border. Last weekend, President Erdogan called on Greece to open its borders as Turkey had done saying: “Hey Greece! I appeal to you… open the gates as well and be free of this burden… Let them go to other European countries.” While Erdogan has claimed that the migrants are largely Syrian nationals, reports from the Greek government have revealed only four per cent of those who have crossed into Greece illegally have been from Syria.

Senior Quds Force commander assassinated near Damascus

US angered by Europe’s refusal to extend sanctions on Iran

A field commander with the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was assassinated near the Syrian capital, an Iranian semiofficial news agency and an opposition war monitor reported Saturday. Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency identified the commander as Farhad Dabirian and said he was killed in the south Damascus suburb of Sayeda Zeinab. The area is home to a holy shrine for Shiite Muslims. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing and Fars reported no additional details on how Dabirian was killed. The Fars report didn’t say what Dabirian’s role was in Syria but noted he was a commander of the battle to retake the historic town of Palmyra from the Islamic State group.

The first US layoffs from the coronavirus

Federal Taxes and Spending Set Records Through February

Strong job growth defined the U.S. economic expansion over the past decade. The early layoffs indicate the coronavirus is triggering a rapid turnaround in an American economy that weeks ago looked strong, with unemployment at a half-century low. At the Port of Los Angeles, 145 drivers have been laid off and others have been sent home without pay as massive ships from China stopped arriving and work dried up. At travel agencies in Atlanta and Los Angeles, several workers lost their jobs as bookings evaporated. Christie Lites, a stage-lighting company in Orlando, laid off more than 100 of its 500 workers nationwide this past week and likely will lay off 150 more, according to chief executive Huntly Christie. Meanwhile a hotel in Seattle is closing an entire department, a former employee said, and as many as 50 people lost their jobs after the South by Southwest festival in Austin got canceled. Many job losses have been concentrated in the travel, tourism, events and trucking industries. Economists fear more layoffs in the coming weeks as supply chains come to a halt and people stay home and spend less.

Biden Unveils Vast LGBT Plan Overturning Trump’s Religious Liberty Protections

Former Vice President Joe Biden unveiled a sweeping plan for the LGBT community last week, pledging to overturn Trump-era religious liberty policies if he becomes president and promoting passage of the Equality Act – a bill opposed by some gay and lesbian Americans because of its negative impact on women’s sports. Biden’s 7,000-word plan would also ban conversion therapy, guarantee transgender students access to bathrooms and locker rooms of their choosing, and add a “third gender” option on government forms for non-binary individuals. The plan lists the accomplishments of the Obama-Biden administration for the LGBT community, such as ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and promoting the legalization of same-sex marriage. “But this fight’s not over,” the plan says. The Biden plan pledges to overturn a 2019 Trump religious liberty proposal that would allow faith-based adoption and foster care agencies to receive federal grants if they don’t place children in same-sex homes. The Trump proposal would reverse an Obama-era rule that prevented federal grants from going to any entity that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Zack Pruitt said last year the new Trump rule would end discrimination “against faith-based providers simply because of their beliefs about marriage.”

9 Reassuring Facts About Coronavirus That You Might Not Hear

The World Health Organization on Wednesday declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. There are 118,000 cases, more than 4,000 deaths, the agency said, and the virus has found a foothold on every continent except for Antarctica. “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. And we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled at the same time,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday. “Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO’s assessment of the threat posed by this coronavirus. It doesn’t change what WHO is doing, and it doesn’t change what countries should do.”

Nigeria is already dealing with a deadlier viral outbreak than the coronavirus epidemic

Death toll reaches 144 from Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria

The detection of Covid-19 coronavirus in Nigeria raised early concerns about the country’s capacity to handle a major epidemic but so far local public health officials have been commended for handling the outbreak with aplomb. But the coronavirus is not the only viral outbreak in Africa’s most populous country. Nigeria is currently dealing with what is turning out to be the world’s largest epidemic of Lassa fever, a viral disease deadlier than coronavirus. Lassa fever is a severe viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) like Ebola and Marburg that occurs throughout the year in Nigeria and was declared an “active outbreak” by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) five weeks into 2020. The epidemic which occurs during the annual dry season (roughly November through March) has spread across half the country. The Lassa fever virus is transmitted to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated with urine and feces of a rat. It’s also known to spread from person-to-person through contact with the body fluids and organs of infected persons, which has resulted in healthcare workers easily getting infected; some have died. The epidemic, whose rapid escalation started right from the second week of the year, had by the end of the ninth week seen 774 cases and 132 deaths spread across 26 of Nigeria’s 36 states and the federal capital territory.

Phivolcs raises eruption alert as Kanlaon Volcano shows unrest

Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental started showing unrest on Wednesday, prompting state volcanologists to raise the threat alert level. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the alert status over Kanlaon from Alert Level 0 to Alert Level 1 after showing “abnormal condition.” It said 80 volcanic earthquakes were recorded since March 9, including 77 low-frequency tremors associated with magma movement. The increase in Kanlaon Volcano’s activity may be succeeded by sudden and hazardous steam-driven eruptions, it added. “These parameters indicate that volcanic process are underway deep beneath the edifice that may be caused by deep-seated degassing or hydrothermal activity or magmatic intrusion,” Phivolcs said in an advisory.

Very rare cyclone over the Middle East, state of emergency declared in Egypt

A powerful storm developing over Egypt on Thursday, March 12, 2020, is expected to move northeast posing threats to other Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia. This is a very rare severe weather system, capable of producing very heavy rain and strong winds. Due to a severe risk of flooding, the Egyptian authorities have declared a state of emergency.  The storm has already begun dumping heavy rains on parts of Egypt on Thursday, with flooding anticipated particularly in low-lying areas. Moreover, gusty winds will also accompany the storm, resulting in dust storms. As the storm moves northeastward Thursday night into Friday and Saturday, it will pose flooding risks further along its path.
