The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes against four Hamas targets in the northern part of Gaza in response to the launch of four rockets at Israel from Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said Saturday. A 10-year-old Palestinian boy and his 6-year-old sister were killed, according to Palestinian medical sources. Their 13-year-old brother was critically wounded when shrapnel struck his face during the strikes, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. The IDF said no one was injured from the four rockets fired from Gaza because they landed in open areas.

Headline: Elevated security for Jerusalem Marathon. Alert for Palestinian car bombs
Extra soldiers, police and other security personnel are to be drafted in to secure the annual Jerusalem marathon taking place next Friday (March 18). Intelligence authorities are preparing in case Palestinian terrorists use the event for a another surge of violence after hitting three Israeli towns during US Vice President Joe Biden’s two-day visit last week. Israeli security authorities are on the lookout for drive-by shootings from moving cars or even the first Palestinian car bombings. So far, 5,300 runners have registered for the Jerusalem Marathon, which covers a 42-km course through the streets of the capital, Almost half are visitors from nine countries. The current Palestinian “intifada” has escalated constantly since it erupted last September. Of late, the knifings, rocks and car attacks on pedestrians have been ramped up to gunfire and explosive devices. debkafile’s counterterrorism sources disclose that Palestinian terror planners are said to be gearing up for their first car bombings in Israel’s main cities. Israeli security and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service are in a race against time to hunt down and forestall these outrages. An intensive effort is underway to nip in the bud the next shooting and firebomb attacks, by disabling the clandestine Palestinian workshops that are producing weapons for terrorist attacks, especially Karl Gustav automatic machine guns. Gangs of two or three shooters are being recruited for automatic gun shootings coupled with lobbed firebombs. The hunt is also on for the agents distributing these guns around Palestinian towns.

Headline: Secret Israel, PA talks on removing IDF from Palestinian cities
Headline: PA nixes Israeli offer to halt IDF activity in Ramallah, Jericho
Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have been holding secret talks about transferring the security control for cities in Judea and Samaria to the PA. Haaretz reports that these discussions have been going on for the past month. Senior officials say that Israel has offered to cease its actions in Area A almost completely, with the exception of “ticking time bomb scenarios.” The transfer would be carried out in stages, beginning with Jericho and Ramallah. Should this succeed, the IDF would gradually evacuate more and more cities. Area A includes the largest Palestinian cities as well as their surrounding areas, and makes up about 20 percent of Judea and Samaria. Under the Oslo Accords, Israel handed over the responsibility for civil and security administration in the region to the PA, but it was forced to reenter and take back control during 2002’s Operation Defensive Shield. The talks are currently stalled over conditions demanded by both sides, though representatives are still meeting. Recently, the Palestinian side insisted that Israel return its activity in Areas A and B to its status according to Oslo, and threatened to cease cooperating with Israeli security forces if their demands are not met.

Headline: Hezbollah says Arab League position is Saudi aggression
Hezbollah over the weekend blasted the Arab League’s decision to brand it a “terrorist organization,” saying the move amounted to a “declaration of aggression” by Saudi Arabia. Hezbollah officials linked the Arab League’s decision to what they called the “failure” of Saudi-led wars in the region. Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab coalition that launched a war against Iran-backed Houthi rebels since last March. “Saudi Arabia is trying to affirm that Hezbollah is a terrorist group in all the forums that allow it to make this move. It is putting pressure on others at the Arab foreign ministers meeting to do the same,” Hezbollah’s deputy head Sheikh Naim Qassem said in a speech in the eastern city of Baalbek Saturday. Qassem said Saudi Arabia opposes Hezbollah for three main reasons: the group’s ability to defeat Israel; its commitment to Islamic unity which, he said, Riyadh opposes; and Hezbollah’s solidarity with Yemen, Syria and Iraq, which he claimed have been oppressed by Saudi Arabia. “Certainly, classifying us as terrorist will only strengthen our confidence and steadfastness and will confirm that we are the right ones,” he added.

Syria Headline: Al-Qaeda seizes weapons, bases from US-backed Syrian rebels
US-backed Syrian rebels say Al-Qaeda militants have seized their bases and stolen weapons in a series of raids in the northern Idlib province. Division 13 of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is led by the prominent rebel commander Ahmed Al-Seoud, said on Twitter Sunday that the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front occupied and looted its posts late the night before. It gave no further details, but the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, says Nusra seized anti-tank missiles, armored vehicles, a tank, and other arms from the division, which has received weapons, training, and money from the US government. Both the FSA and the Nusra Front are fighting to overthrow President Bashar Assad. Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Observatory, said the Nusra Front had also detained dozens of members of the 13th Division rebel group. Nusra Front accused the rebel fighters of launching surprise attacks on its own bases in the town of Maarat Al-Numan in Idlib province in northwest Syria. It said some Nusra fighters had been captured.

Iraq Headline:Daesh terrorists pull out of Anbar town
Iraq Headline: ISIS returns to Iraqi town
The ISIS group on Monday returned to the desert town of Rutba (Ar Rutbah above) in western Iraq, less than a day after vacating it, officials said. The mayor of the remote town in Anbar province had warned when ISIS pulled out that the militant organization may just be testing the population’s allegiance. “Daesh (ISIS) has re-established its control on the city of Rutba… which it had left the previous day,” said a senior officer in the Jazeera Operations Command in charge of the area. “Daesh came back from Al-Qaim with armored vehicles and artillery,” the officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity.“They deployed them on the outskirts of the town and at the main entrances, as if to defend it from any attack by the security forces,” he said. “However, Daesh’s foreign leaders previously based in Rutba did not return,” he said. Rutba lies about 390 kilometers (245 miles) west of Baghdad on the road to Jordan. Imad Ahmed, the town’s mayor, said “it was like a trick played by ISIS on the locals.” He had told AFP after ISIS’s pullout on Sunday that the jihadist group may be trying to lure out members of the population secretly cooperating with the security forces. Ahmed and Raja Barakat, the head of the Anbar provincial council’s security committee, confirmed that the foreign ISIS fighters in Rutba had not returned. Military officials had warned after the ISIS pullback on Sunday that the Iraqi security forces could not move in immediately to take over the town ISIS had abandoned.

Kurdish Headline: Kurdish Peshmerga forces bomb ISIS chemical weapons facility
Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga army forces hit a chemical weapons facility for the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group, an official said on Sunday. Speaking to ARA News, Peshmerga officer Hadi Darwari said their forces bombed a main chemical weapons facility held by ISIS in northern Iraq. “The Peshmerga army hit the facility with dozens of heavy artillery shells. Huge explosions followed the bombardment,” Darwari said. The targeted chemical facility is located in the Qabousiyah district near Shingal (Sinjar) in northwestern Iraq. The Peshmerga officer told ARA News that their troops are preparing to launch similar attacks on other ISIS weapons storage centers that are believed to contain chemical agents. “The strategic operations will continue to include the villages of Ta al-Khashar, Tal al-Qasab and Ain Fathi, where Daesh (ISIS) stores a large deal of heavy weapons, ammunitions and chemical agents,” he said. This comes just two days after ISIS militants hit Taza Khurmatu town south of Kirkuk province with mustard gas, causing the injury of more than 400 people.

Headline: Turkey explosion: Ankara car bomb kills at least 32
Headline: Turkey strikes against Kurdish rebel PKK
A car bomb has exploded in the Turkish capital Ankara, killing 32 people and wounding more than 100, the health ministry has said. The explosion happened in Guven Park in the Kizilay district, a key transport hub and commercial area. Several vehicles at the scene were reduced to burnt-out wrecks, including at least one bus. The Hurriyet newspaper said the latest blast happened at about 18:40 (16:40 GMT) and the area was evacuated in case of a second attack. Many ambulances were at the scene, it added. No group has yet claimed the attack. However, a security official told Reuters news agency that initial findings suggested it was the work of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) or an affiliated group. Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu told a news conference that 30 people were killed at the scene and four died later in hospital, however two of the dead are believed to be the attackers. He said 125 people were being treated at several hospitals in Ankara, of whom 19 are in a critical condition. Interior Minister Efkan Ala said the investigation would be concluded on Monday and those behind the bombing would be named. The ministers were speaking after an emergency security meeting called by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. Hurriyet also reported that a court in Ankara had ordered a ban on access to social media, including Facebook and Twitter, saying it was to stop people sharing images of the attack.

Headline: Russia claims Turkish troops are on Syrian soil
Turkish troops have entered Syrian territory, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Lavrov, in comments to Ren-TV on March 13, said Moscow has evidence that Ankara has sent troops to Syria and is conducing a “creeping expansion” on the border with Syria. Turkey has said that it would join Saudi Arabia in sending troops to Syira as part of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL). Russia responded by warning Turkey and Saudi Arabia that following through on that pledge would cause a “world war.” The European Union’s foreign policy chief last month warned that the conflict risks spilling over into a “hot war” between Russia and Turkey. Lavrov also said Moscow will demand that the UN invite Kurdish representatives to Syria peace talks despite Turkey’s vehement opposition. Meanwhile, the Russian foreign minister said Moscow is open to coordinating military actions in Syria with the U.S. to recapture the city of Raqqa, ISIL’s de facto capital.

Headline: Russia against sanctions on Iran for missile test
The United States on Monday vowed to continue pushing for United Nations Security Council action on Iran’s recent ballistic missile tests and accused Russia of looking for reasons not to respond to Iranian violations of a U.N. resolution. “This merits a council response,” U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told reporters after a closed-door meeting of the 15-nation Security Council convened at Washington’s request. “Russia seems to be lawyering its way to look for reasons not to act,” she said. “We’re not going to give up at the Security Council, no matter the quibbling that we heard today about this and that.” Power was referring to comments from Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, who made clear that in the view of veto-wielding Russia, Iran’s ballistic missile tests did not violate council resolution 2231, adopted in July, that endorsed an historic nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers. “A call is different from a ban so legally you cannot violate a call, you can comply with a call or you can ignore the call, but you cannot violate a call,” Churkin said. “The legal distinction is there.”

Headline: 1 million Moroccans march through their capital to protest the U.N. chief’s remarks about the contested Western Sahara territory
Up to 1 million Moroccans marched through their capital Sunday to protest the U.N. secretary-general’s remarks about the contested Western Sahara territory. It was an unusually massive show of public anger for Morocco, and was encouraged by leading political parties. Morocco considers the vast mineral-rich Western Sahara as its “southern provinces” and took offense when U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon used the word “occupation” after a visit this month to refugee camps for the region’s native Sahrawis in southern Algeria. Protesters on Sunday packed the streets of Rabat after political parties, unions and non-governmental groups called for a national demonstration. Authorities claimed there were up to 3 million people taking part. “The Sahara is ours,” some chanted. Marchers waved Moroccan flags and a banner showing King Mohammed VI. U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the U.N. was aware of the protests taking place in Morocco. “While the Secretary-General acknowledges that there are differences of opinion on the Western Sahara issue, he continues to believe that, 40 years after, it is important to resolve this long-standing dispute and open the way to the return of the Sahrawi refugees to their homes.” He said the secretary-general again called for “genuine negotiations in good faith and without preconditions at each stop on his recent trip.” The U.N. has been trying for years to hold a referendum on independence for the territory, which was annexed by Morocco when Spain withdrew in 1975. Morocco proposes increased autonomy instead.

Huge crowds have taken to the streets across Brazil calling for President Dilma Rousseff to resign. Opponents blame Ms Rousseff for a severe recession and a corruption scandal also engulfing her predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. She has said she has no intention of resigning but her opponents hope a large turnout on the streets will lead to her impeachment. She faces charges over masking the budget deficit, which she denies. Crowds in Sao Paulo at the peak of the march reached 1.4 million, the city’s state security office said. Smaller marches took place in many cities across the country. The demonstrations were peaceful, with tens of thousands wearing the national colours of yellow and green and holding banners that read “Dilma out” and “Stop with corruption”. “I support her impeachment and new elections because the presidential vote in 2014 was financed with dirty money from corruption,” said protester Alexandre Cortes, a 39-year-old engineer in Sao Paulo. Militants have killed at least 16 people in a gun attack on a beach resort in southern Ivory Coast. The attackers fired on beach-goers in Grand Bassam, about 40km (25 miles) from the commercial capital Abidjan. The resort is popular with both locals and foreigners. The gunmen have been “neutralised”, officials say. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) was quick to claim responsibility for the attack. It published its claim in four languages – a sign that the group was seeking to boost its media profile to match its recently enhanced operational capabilities. The brief statement in Arabic, English, French and Spanish was published as an image on AQIM’s Twitter account and through the messaging app Telegram. The format resembled the style used by jihadist rivals Islamic State group (IS), indicating that AQIM wants to emulate IS’s more advanced media operation. AQIM said in the statement that three of its militants were responsible for this attack.

Headline: Post-election violence kills 22 in Uganda
Nearly two dozen people have been killed in western Uganda as clashes between supporters of two former presidential election rivals turn violent. Police said in a statement late on Sunday that fighting claimed 22 lives in the area where opposition candidate Kizza Besigye had a strong showing against veteran leader Yoweri Museveni, who won the February 18 presidential race. The statement said, however, that clashes erupted after local elections on February 24 when supporters of Forum for Democratic Change accused the government of stoking violence in the area. It said 16 civilians were killed in the fighting between rival camps while six others died after police intervened to calm down the unrest. The violence also left some 10 people injured, including four soldiers, police said, adding that some 80 people were arrested during and around 150 houses were burned down. “We have information that criminal gangs are being incited,” police said, adding, “We caution those misleading the youth into engaging in reckless … attacks on the security forces and other innocent people to desist.” Museveni won the disputed presidential election with 60 percent of the vote against Besigye’s 35 percent.

Headline: Egypt devalues its currency in attempt to revive lagging economy
There is a near one in three chance the world economy will slip back in to recession this year as low oil prices and extraordinary monetary stimulus have a dwindling impact on global growth, Morgan Stanley has warned. The US investment bank said a “low growth environment” had made the world vulnerable to a litany of shocks, including fears that central banks have lost control over domestic financial conditions, while rising political risks from Europe to the Middle East threaten to overwhelm governments. Global growth is forecast to hit just 3pc this year, down from Morgan Stanley’s earlier estimate of 3.3pc, with advanced world growth falling to 1.5pc. Japan received the biggest single downgrade of any country, with GDP slashed in half to just 0.6pc from 1.2pc. Noting that world GDP fell to 2.3pc in the last quarter of 2015 – below the 2.5pc threshold which marks a recession – Morgan Stanley raised their global recession risk probability from 20pc to 30pc.

Headline: Mosquitoes’ rapid spread poses threat beyond Zika
As the world focuses on Zika’s rapid advance in the Americas, experts warn the virus that originated in Africa is just one of a growing number of continent-jumping diseases carried by mosquitoes threatening swathes of humanity. The battle against the insects on the streets of Brazil is the latest in an ancient war between humankind and the Culicidae, or mosquito, family which the pests frequently win. Today, mosquito invaders are turning up with increasing regularity from Washington DC to Strasbourg, challenging the notion that the diseases they carry will remain confined to the tropics, scientists documenting the cases told Reuters. Ironically, humans have rolled out the red carpet for the invaders by transporting them around the world and providing a trash-strewn urban landscape that suits them to perfection. The Aedes aegypti species blamed for transmitting Zika breeds in car tires, tin cans, dog bowls and cemetery flower vases. And its females are great at spreading disease as they take multiple bites to satisfy their hunger for the protein in human blood they need to develop their eggs. Around the world, disease-carrying mosquitoes are advancing at speed, taking viruses such as dengue and Zika, plus a host of lesser-known ills such as chikungunya and St. Louis encephalitis, into new territories from Europe to the Pacific.

Headline: Mass Exorcism Needed: Mexico Swept by Wave of Satanic Killings
Mexico is being swept by a wave of satanic ritual killings with exorcists saying there is an unprecedented demand for their services. Father José Antonio Fortea, a leading Mexican exorcist, who once ordered the mass exorcism of the whole country, has warned of an increase in satanic ritual killings. He said that “devil worship” stemmed from the so-called cult of Santa Muerte, depicted as a human corpse with all the flesh picked off the bones, and dressed like a bride for her wedding. The name means “Holy Death” – and it harks back to the days when to be sacrificed to the Aztec gods was considered the greatest honor. Edwin Juarez Palma, a 24-year-old restaurant worker, was beaten, strangled and had his neck slashed with a broken bottle by the proponents of the vampire cult during a ceremony intended to turn him into a vampire, the Sun wrote. Police said that the young man was killed after being fooled into taking part in an initiation ceremony to become part of a satanic cult called the Sons of Baphomet 1. Instead he was tortured after having his hands tied behind his back after one of the alleged killers persuaded the others that their victim should be sacrificed so he could return to life as a vampire. Two men and one woman, later arrested in connection with the killing, admitted that they belonged to the Sons of Bahomet 1 cult. Police Chief Pablo Rocha said: “This crime took place during an initiation ceremony led by a satanic sect called Sons of Baphomet 1 during which the victim was supposed to become a vampire.” The Mexican drug cartels reportedly pray to Santa Muerte for protection from the police and from death. They ask the skeletal saint to watch over their shipments of drugs and offer up human sacrifices to her.

Headline: South Sudan Churches Confirm UN Report: Children, the Disabled Being Burned Alive; Mass Rapes Amid Civil War
Local church officials in South Sudan have confirmed a recently released United Nations report describing the horrors of the country’s civil war, including mass rapes, children and the disabled being burned alive, hanged, or cut to pieces. “The U.N. report is definitely reliable,” the church sources, who weren’t named, told Fides News Agency. “We saw members of the inquiry committee do a thorough job on the ground until the end of January, meeting and interviewing local witnesses. The systematic use of mass rape to humiliate the opponent is terribly real and widespread,” they added. The U.N. said that its report contains “harrowing accounts of pro-opposition civilians killed by being burned alive, suffocated in containers, shot, hanged from trees or cut to pieces,” with Fides noting that children and disabled people are among such victims as well. The country’s civil war erupted in December 2013 following a conflict between President Salva Kiir, an ethnic Dinka, and his rival and former Vice President Riek Machar, a Nuer.

It said that at least 70 people have also sustained injuries. Additionally, the death toll from the collapse of a coal mine shaft caused by the severe rainfall in the mountainous northwestern Orakzai tribal district has climbed to seven. Ten people have also been injured. “The rescue operation has ended and we have seven people dead and 10 injured. Sixteen others have been rescued from the mine,” Zubair Khan, a top government official in the district, said. More than 30 miners were trapped after the shaft caved in amid heavy downpours on Sunday.

Headline: Report: Obama to Enlist Anti-Israel UN in Last-Ditch Effort for Middle East Peace
As his term runs down, US President Barack Obama plans to make one more desperate bid for peace between Israel and the Palestinians by way of an international body known to be hostile to Israel – the United Nations (UN). According to a report from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Obama’s last-ditch effort to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations is likely to include a UN Security Council resolution which would set a framework for a viable deal. Such a resolution would demand concessions from both Israel and the Palestinians, the WSJ reported senior US officials as saying, despite the Palestinians’ historical refusal to make any concessions whatsoever. The UN move would be a welcome one to the Palestinian Authority (PA), headed by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, which has pushed for the establishment of an international body to mediate peace talks, preferring to appeal to external parties who may be more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause than to deal directly with Israel.

Headline: White House surprised as Netanyahu cancels U.S. visit
The White House signaled its surprise that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled an upcoming meeting with President Barack Obama. Obama and Netanyahu have had a frosty relationship, largely because of disagreement over the accord with Iran reining in its nuclear program. They were to participate in their first face-to-face meeting since November, on March 18 in Washington, D.C. Netanyahu was expected to be in the United States to attend the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Monday the White House announced the one-on-one was canceled. Netanyahu will address the conference by satellite, a source told CNN, saying he chose not to visit the United States during the bitter 2016 presidential election campaign. The change in plans clearly caught the White House off guard.

Headline: Amid bout of attacks, Netanyahu decides to complete barrier in Jerusalem area
Soon after U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden touched down in Israel on Tuesday for his two-day visit with the Israeli and Palestinian leaderships, a Palestinian attacker went on a stabbing rampage, killing an American student and tourist and wounding nine others before being shot by police, according to officials. The bloody attack unfolded in the ancient Mediterranean coastal port city of Jaffa, which joins Tel Aviv—a mixed Arab and Jewish area—and came soon after two other serious attacks across Israel in a little under two hours. The stabbings in and around Jaffa, came on a violent day when four other people were killed—three Palestinian attackers and a 50-year-old Palestinian woman who Israeli police say intended to carry out a stabbing attack. The day of violence is one of the worst in a five-month wave of violence between Israelis and Palestinians.

Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) stormed on Tuesday an all-girls school in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden, and threatened to mercilessly punish the students if they violated the Sharia dress. The radical group had issued a statement earlier on Monday, calling on all women in Aden, including school girls, to show commitment to the dress code imposed by ISIS under the pretext of applying the Sharia law. Local sources reported that ISIS militants vowed to publicly punish anyone who violates the group’s dress code. “They broke into an all-girls school in central Aden on Tuesday afternoon and threatened to execute any student who refuses to wear the burqa in public,” an eyewitness said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Girls are not allowed to wear the usual school uniform anymore,” the source said. “ISIS also tries to interfere in the educational system and adjust the schools’ curriculum in accordance with its radical dogma.”

Syria Headline: Syria regime presses toward key Idlib town
Pro-regime forces have continued to press their offensive in the mountains northeast of Syria’s coast, advancing in the direction of a key rebel-held town on the edge of the Idlib province. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Wednesday morning that “hit and run” clashes were ongoing around the mountainous Kabana area that lies a little over 10 kilometers southwest of Idlib’s Jisr al-Shughour. Regime troops have not yet been able to advance into Kabana, although they seized the Zuweiqat mountaintop overlooking the village from its southern outskirts just days before. The pro-opposition Qasioun News outlet said Wednesday morning that Syrian rebel forces “foiled an attempt by the regime forces and Hezbollah” to storm the Latakia village, while Lebanon’s Al-Akhbar—a newspaper that supports Assad—touted recent regime advances around Kabana.

Subsequent to fierce clashes, Syrian regime forces were able Tuesday to recapture a strategic town from militants of the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, Nusra Front, and allied Jund al-Aqsa Brigade in the southern countryside of Aleppo province, northern Syria. Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, rebel spokesman Mustafa Suleiman said that pro-Assad troops, backed by a Russian air cover, carried out a surprise attack on the Nusra Front and Jund al-Aqsa Brigade in the strategic town of al-Iss (Al-Eis) and its surrounding hills. “The army encircled Islamists near al-Khanser town and was able to control al-Iss after fierce battles between the two sides,” the source said. “Dozens of the Nusra insurgents have been killed in a barrel bomb attack by pro-Assad helicopters in the area,” Suleiman told ARA News. The spokesman pointed out that the battles forced the Nusra insurgents to flee the town and the nearby hills amid artillery shelling by pro-Assad forces on the headquarters of Islamists in the town of az-Ziyara. It was not immediately clear how many fighters were killed in the attacks.

Headline: Ukraine and Turkey Launch Joint Naval Drill Amid Stand-Offs With Russia
Ukraine and Turkey’s navies launched a joint military exercise on Monday, as Kiev and Ankara continue to grow closer in the face of their respective stand-offs with Russia. Ukraine’s relations with Russia have plummeted since Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to annex Crimea in 2014 and Russian-backed fighters moved in on eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, Turkey had been complaining of repeated violations of its airspace by Russian military jets in Syria before it shot one down in November 2015, triggering a very public spat with the Kremlin. According to a Facebook post by Ukraine’s Navy, Ukraine and Turkey sent two frigates and a degaussing vessel into the Sea of Marmara on Monday to practice tactical maneuvering, anti-aircraft combat and communication. “In accordance with the plan for joint activities between the Ukrainian Navy and the Navy of the Republic of Turkey, joint base training to prepare Ukrainian crews at Turkey’s naval facilities is also scheduled,” the statement added. Last month, Ukrainian Member of Parliament Mustafa Dzhemilev said he had opened discussions with Turkey about potentially receiving arms from the NATO member.

Headline: Amid ballistics test, Iran officer says missiles designed to reach Israel
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) test-fired several ballistic missiles on Tuesday, state television said, challenging a United Nations resolution and drawing a threat of a diplomatic response from the United States. Two months ago, Washington imposed sanctions against businesses and individuals linked to Iran’s missile program over a test of the medium-range Emad missile carried out in October 2015. U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Washington would review the incident and, if it is confirmed, raise it in the U.N. Security Council and seek an “appropriate response”. “We also continue to aggressively apply our unilateral tools to counter threats from Iran’s missile program,” Toner added, in a possible reference to additional U.S. sanctions. An Iranian state television report showed a missile being fired from a fortified underground silo at night time. The presenter said it was a medium-range Qiam-1 missile, and the test took place in the early hours of Tuesday. The report said the Guards had fired several missiles from silos across the country, though it only showed footage of one. “The missiles struck a target 700 km away,” said Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC’s aerospace arm.

Authorities in Afghanistan’s restive southern province of Helmand say a group of at least 10 heavily-armed Taliban fighters have staged a coordinated assault, triggering a gun battle with security forces. The attack early Wednesday in the Gereshk district targeted the police headquarters and offices of the Afghan spy agency. A senior provincial security official, Abdul Jabbar Qahraman, told VOA that security forces have killed nine assailants during a gunfight to eliminate the remaining militants. He went to on to assert that all the assailants were foreign nationals and there were suicide bombers among them. The militant siege has left at least three security personnel dead while several others wounded, said Qahraman. A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yosaf Ahmadi, claimed responsibility for the assault, saying it has inflicted heavy casualties on Afghan security personnel . The fighting prompted provincial authorities to close the main Kandahar-Herat highway, which links the southern region to western Afghanistan. Reports say thousands of passengers have been stranded because of the road closure.

Headline: Nothing Is Going Right In The World’s Newest Nation
When South Sudan gained independence in 2011, there was great optimism both inside and outside of the country that it was putting its deeply troubled past behind it. For generations, the South Sudanese had been terrorized by rebel armies and repressive government soldiers. At independence, South Sudan was one of the poorest nations in sub-Saharan Africa but also one of its most oil-rich. The honeymoon for the world’s newest nation didn’t last long. Late in 2013 the president and vice president took up arms against each other. And things went downhill fast from there. “It’s the worst I’ve ever seen and the worst I’ve ever experienced,” says Emma Drew, the humanitarian program manager for Oxfam in South Sudan, who’s worked there for eight years. The brutal civil war left tens of thousands of South Sudanese dead, drove more than 2 million people from their homes and lay to waste entire towns. Aid groups and the U.N. warn that the country is now on the brink of a catastrophic food crisis. One analysis predicts that 40,000 people face starvation. Drew says that dire prediction sounds reasonable to her. “Absolutely. 100 percent. Yup.” She worries not only about those 40,000 “but also the hundreds of thousands that are just one step below,” she says. Inflation is running at 300 to 400 percent. There’s a dire shortage of hard currency. Oil production has plummeted, and most of the economy has collapsed. When South Sudan broke away from Sudan five years ago, it was pumping more than 300,000 barrels of oil a day. Oil exports provided 98 percent of the government’s revenue. Fighting shut down some of the wells. And now because of the drop in global oil prices, South Sudan is losing money on every barrel it pumps. The problem is that South Sudan is landlocked, and its former adversary, the government in Khartoum, is charging $25 a barrel to ship crude through its pipelines to the Red Sea. With oil trading at just above $30 a barrel, South Sudan’s primary export isn’t worth exporting. In an open-air market in the capital Juba, traders say the economic crisis is worsening every week. Prices are rising and people have less money to spend.

Headline: Tunisia closes border with Libya after fierce clashes
Tunisia’s border with Libya was closed on Tuesday after a brazen attack by suspected ISIL gunmen on a frontier town left at least 55 people dead. Gunmen attacked the eastern town of Ben Gardane on Monday and fighting continued past nightfall. Tunisian Prime Minister Hassid Essid said the assault was an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attempt to carve out a stronghold on the border. “This is an unprecedented attack, planned and organised. Its goal was probably to take control of this area and to announce a new emirate,” Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi said. The death toll includes 36 attackers, seven civilians and 12 members of Tunisia’s security forces, Essid said. Tunisian interior and defence ministers travelled to the town to oversee heightened border protection operations on Tuesday, according to a joint statement. The attackers simultaneously targeted an army barracks and police posts with heavy weaponry, including rocket-propelled grenades. The government imposed a curfew in Ben Gardane. A security and military campaign began last week in Ben Gardane after Tunisian security officials said “terrorist groups” had infiltrated the country. Officials said that the campaign followed raids in Libya against ISIL.

Headline: Morocco accuses U.N.’s Ban of dropping neutrality over West Sahara
Morocco’s government has accused U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon of dropping his neutrality in the Western Sahara conflict by using the word “occupation” to describe Morocco’s presence in the region. The United Nations responded by dismissing the suggestion that Ban was anything but neutral in the long-running dispute over the desert region in the northwest corner of Africa that has festered since Morocco took control over most of it in 1975 following former colonial power Spain’s withdrawal. “The kingdom of Morocco has noticed … the Secretary General has dropped his neutrality and impartiality and has showed a guilty indulgence with a puppet state without attributes, territory, population, nor a recognized flag,” said a Moroccan government statement carried by state news agency MAP late on Tuesday. The Polisario Front, which has said the territory belongs to ethnic Sahrawis, waged a guerrilla war until a U.N.-brokered ceasefire in 1991. But the two sides have been deadlocked since, particularly over a referendum on the region’s future.

Headline: Russia Threatens to INVADE North Korea over nuclear threats
The U.S. says it has dispatched three B-2 stealth bombers on a training mission to the Asia-Pacific region amid growing tensions with North Korea. The deployment was announced Wednesday by U.S. Strategic Command, which is responsible for U.S. nuclear forces. B-2 bombers are capable of launching nuclear as well as conventional weapons. They are based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Strategic Command said the bombers will conduct training with the Australian military during the deployment, which amounts to a show of force at a time of mounting tensions with North Korea. North Korea threatened pre-emptive nuclear strikes after the United States and South Korea began large-scale war games this month. Strategic Command declined to say where the bombers will be operating from, or for how long. Meanwhile, North Korea’s provocative nuclear rhetoric has gotten so bad the Kremlin has officially warned continued nuclear threats could justify an invasion. The warning was issued in the form of a written statement from the Russian foreign ministry. It follows North Korea’s threat it would engage in a “preemptive and offensive nuclear strike” in reaction to the start of joint U.S.-South Korean war games Monday. “We consider it to be absolutely impermissible to make public statements containing threats to deliver some ‘preventive nuclear strikes’ against opponents,” said the statement, as translated by the Russian TASS news agency. “Pyongyang should be aware of the fact that in this way the DPRK [North Korea] will become fully opposed to the international community and will create international legal grounds for using military force against itself in accordance with the right of a state to self-defense enshrined in the United Nations Charter.” Russia also had harsh words for the U.S. and South Korea, condemning the “unprecedented” exercises. “The development of the situation on the Korean peninsula and around it is causing growing concern,” said a statement issued Monday.

Saudi Arabia is seeking a bank loan of $6 billion to $8 billion, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, in what would be the first significant foreign borrowing by the kingdom’s government for over a decade. Riyadh has asked lenders to submit proposals to extend it a five-year US dollar loan of that size, with an option to increase it, the sources said, to help plug a record budget deficit caused by low oil prices. The sources declined to be named because the matter is not public. Calls to the Saudi finance ministry and central bank seeking comment on Wednesday were not answered.

Headline: Muslim body calls for economic war on Israel
Indonesia’s president on Monday urged a summit of Muslim nations to be part of the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict rather than part of the problem. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who heads the most populous Muslim nation, said the entire world is concerned by the deterioration of the situation in Palestine and criticized what he called Israel’s “unilateral and illegal policies.” Officials from 57 countries are meeting in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, for a special summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that is focused on Palestine and Jerusalem. The Middle East quartet — consisting of the U.N., Russia, U.S. and European Union — and permanent members of the U.N. Security Council are also represented. “The OIC should be part of the solution, and not part of the problem,” Jokowi said in opening remarks to the summit. “If the OIC cannot be part of the solution to Palestine, then the OIC becomes irrelevant.”

Headline: Hezbollah sent fighters to Iraq in secret to fight ISIS: Nasrallah
Headline: GCC to begin measures against Hezbollah
Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah Sunday announced that Hezbollah had covertly sent fighters to combat ISIS in Iraq, saying that his party had fought under local command and not interfered in the country’s internal affairs as Saudi Arabia had in some Arab states. “Sunnis have been harmed by ISIS in Iraq more than the Shiites. After being asked to help in the fight against this globally renowned terrorist group, we took some fighters from south Lebanon, some from Syria and some from Yemen, and flew them to Iraq secretly without any public fuss,” Nasrallah said during a televised speech. He went on to criticize an unnamed official who called for the withdrawal of Hezbollah and popular mobilization forces in Iraq. “If it weren’t for the popular mobilization forces in Iraq, ISIS would have been in your palaces, violating your dignity,” said Nasrallah. He lambasted the Gulf Cooperation Council for its recent decision to label the party as a “terrorist organization,” saying their “regimes” were acting as sureties for Israel. “This Shiite-Sunni conflict is a lie, the GCC’s problem is not really with the Shiites. [The Gulf] regimes’ main concern has always been protecting Israel – and some of them have conspired against those who stood in the face of Israel, especially Saudi Arabia,” he said. He continued to say that Lebanon would still be under Israeli occupation if it had solely relied on assistance from Arab countries.

Headline: Two Egypt policemen killed in Sinai bombing
Egypt has allegedly put Hezbollah’s leaders on the list of people banned from entering the state, as a part of its commitment to the security of Gulf States. According to Arab media reports, an Egyptian security official said that Egypt decided to ban Hezbollah leaders from entering the state following the latest decision of the Gulf Cooperation Council to label Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Egypt’s decision also states that people affiliated with Hezbollah would also be banned from holding stocks in Egyptian banks. The official added that Egypt also decided to ban entry from Palestinians in Gaza who hold contacts with the Lebanese terror organization, after it had already warned Hezbollah to stop supporting armed organizations in Gaza Strip, which poses a threat to Egypt’s national security.

Syria Headline: Report: ISIS gunmen stage mutiny, kill local commander in de facto capital
A senior Islamic State commander was killed on Monday by disgruntled members of the jihadist group in internecine fighting that has wracked the movement in its de facto capital of Raqqa, Kurdish news agencies are reporting. According to the reports, Abu Ali al-Tunisi, the commander of the military wing of ISIS’ northern Syria branch, was killed by his former charges, triggering even more widespread dissension within the ranks. “Clashes have broken out within the organization following the killing of al-Tunisi,” said a Kurdish media outlet in the area. “Exchanges of gunfire between the two sides subsided only after the ISIS secret police managed to arrest three of the gunmen who killed the senior commander.” The incident was apparently precipitated by growing tension within the military wing over divisions of powers on the ground as well as the distribution of profits. There is also a widening chasm between Syrian fighters and foreign volunteers. The Syrians have grown disenchanted over what they believe to be preferential treatment and perks given to their foreign comrades.

Syria Headline:Nusra in Syria threatens to fire on protesters: activist
An anti-government protest in the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib ended abruptly Monday when members of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front threatened to shoot at demonstrators, an activist said. Protesters gathered in Idlib city in the afternoon, using the relative lull in fighting to resume demonstrations against President Bashar Assad, according to activist Ibrahim al-Idlibi, who is from the city. “We invited people to come protest in the city at 3:00 p.m., thinking we could resume the popular protest movement inside the city,” he said. But when demonstrators began marching from the gathering point to Idlib’s main square, members the Nusra Front tried to stop them. “The Nusra fighters came out and began to fight the protesters, to threaten them with their guns saying, ‘If you don’t leave the streets, we’ll start to fire,'” Idlibi said. Nusra proceeded to seize about 10 people and wave Al-Qaeda’s black flag, according to Idlibi.

Iraq Headline: ISIS Suicide Bomb Kills At Least 60 South Of Baghdad
A truck bomb at an Iraqi checkpoint south of Baghdad killed at least 60 people and wounded more than 70 on Sunday, medical and security officials said, and Islamic State claimed responsibility for the blast. The suicide attack, involving an explosive-laden fuel tanker, is the second deadliest this year. Responsibility for the bombing in Hilla, 117 kilometres (73 miles) south of Baghdad, was claimed in a posting on the website of the Amaq news agency, which supports Islamic State. “A martyr’s operation with a truck bomb hit the Babylon Ruins checkpoint at the entrance of the city of Hilla, killing and wounding dozens,” the statement on the Amaq website said. Hilla is the capital of Babylon province, a predominantly Shi’ite region with some Sunnis. “It’s the largest bombing in the province to date,” Falah al-Radhi, the head of the provincial security committee, told Reuters. “The checkpoint, the nearby police station were destroyed as well as some houses and dozens of cars.” A provincial hospital official confirmed the number of casualties, adding that 23 of them were members of the police and other security forces that were manning the check point located at the northern entrance of the city.

Kurdish Headline: At least 9 dead, dozens injured in attacks against Kurdish quarter in Aleppo
At least nine civilians were killed and dozens were wounded on Sunday when mortars and rockets were fired by insurgents on a mainly Kurdish residential quarter in the northern city of Aleppo, the Syrian Kurdish YPG group and a monitor said on Sunday. Spokesperson Redur Xelil, an official from the People’s Protection Unit (YPG), said the attacks on the Sheikh Maqsoud quarter of the city killed nine civilians, including four children, two women and three men. Earlier state run Ikhbariya television station said in a news flash 14 were dead and at least 40 injured when mortars were fired by what it described as “terrorists” in rebel-held parts of Aleppo hit Sheikh Maqsoud. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence in Syria, also said the attack was among the biggest by rebels in the area that also adjoins state run parts of Aleppo. At least one hundred rockets were fired by al-Qaeda’s Syrian offshoot Nusra Front and hardline Islamist insurgent groups on residential areas in the quarter, the Observatory said. Heavy fighting flared in Ashrafiyah and in the Sakan al Shabibi neighbourhoods where Kurdish fighters sought to advance in rebel-held areas with no signs that a truce agreed by international parties was holding in that area.

Headline: Al-Nusra militants in Syria shell Turkey to prompt return fire – Russian military
Jihadists in Syria have been shelling the Turkish area in an apparent attempt to provoke a response that could lead to Ankara sending troops into the neighboring country, according to Russia’s truce center in Syria. “On March 6, 2016 several militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra terror group repeatedly fired mortars at Turkish territory from the area near the Syrian settlement of Metishli,” Lieutenant General Sergey Kuralenko, Head of the Center for Reconciliation, said on Sunday. “The actions of militants are aimed at provoking the Turkish military units to return fire and bring their troops into Syria, which will inevitably lead to the disruption of the peace process,” Kuralenko added. He also stated that several Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) armed groups are stationed near the settlement Nusaybin in Turkey, some 1.5km from the Syrian border. According to the information the Center has, these groups are preparing an attack on the settlement of Qamischli, located on the Syrian territory and populated mainly by Syrian Kurds.

Headline: Clashes in Turkey’s mainly Kurdish southeast kill 13 militants, two soldiers
Thirteen Kurdish militants and two Turkish soldiers have been killed during two days of fighting in restive southeastern Turkey, officials said on Monday. The militants from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed on Monday when a firefight broke out in the town of Idil, which has been under a round-the-clock curfew since Feb. 16 in an effort to root the rebels out. The military said on Sunday a soldier had been killed in Idil. On Monday it said a soldier had been killed by a sharpshooter in Sur, a historic district in Diyarbakir, the largest city of the mainly Kurdish southeast. Sur is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and its monuments have been badly damaged since a curfew was imposed on Dec. 2, photographs have shown. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday the lockdown in Sur would end by March 21.

Headline: Turkey training militants near Syria Kurdish region: report
Turkey has been training militants with heavy weapons near northwest Syria’s de-facto Kurdish autonomous Afrin (Efrin) canton, according to an outlet close to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Hawar News (ANHA) reported Monday that a strip of territory in the far northwest of Syria stretching from Maydan Akbis down to Qara Baba is “witnessing unprecedented movements” along the Turkish side of the border. “The Turkish army in recent days has been training armed groups of unknown identity in the use of heavy weapons, such as tanks and artillery… [across the border] from Qara Baba,” the news outlet claimed. Hawar News, which has an editorial policy harshly critical of Turkey, further alleged that Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has been supervising the training of the mystery groups, which have been firing projectiles toward the Tepe Koroglu area within Turkish territory west of the Afrin canton. Meanwhile, sources told the outlet that Turkish intelligence formed two fighting groups—both composed of 15 combatants—in the border villages of Kazikli and Deliosman, which lie just north of the Afrin canton’s border with Turkey. “These moves coincide with Turkish reconnaissance flights along the border of the Afrin Canton,” ANHA’s correspondent reported. The report did not go into further details on the potential identity of the militants receiving the training.

Headline: Turkey’s PM plays hard ball at EU summit
Turkey’s prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu has upped the stakes at the EU summit on stemming migration flows by announcing a new surprise plan. The plan was presented to EU leaders over lunch and will be discussed again at dinner, after an EU-only meeting where leaders will try to agree on a common position. Details are sparse, but a Turkish government spokesperson told reporters in Brussels on Monday (7 March) that Davutoglu wants to talk about issues such as Turkey joining the EU and the ongoing conflict in Syria. “I cannot share any content about the new proposal but our prime minister wrote a new proposal to end this tragedy to make joint efforts and the EU leaders will discuss it after lunch,” said the spokesperson. “We are not here to just talk about migration,” added the spokesperson. Arriving at the summit, Davutoglu clearly made a link between the help requested by the EU and Turkey’s EU accession hopes when he said that “Turkey is ready to help the EU” but that it was also “ready to be a member” of the EU. “We have to see the whole picture. Not just irregular migration but the whole future of our continent,” he said. EU sources told this website the new plan would entail removing visa travel restrictions in June, instead of the initial October date, and opening five new “chapters” in Turkey’s EU accession process. The sources said Ankara is also asking the EU to pay between €6 billion and €15 billion over a three or five-year period to finance humanitarian aid for the some 2.9 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. Advancing the visa policy would require launching a new readmission agreement with Turkey on 20 March instead of June.

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday that the Islamic State group has been defeated in the eastern parts of the country, where it took over some remote districts. Speaking at the opening of parliament, Ghani said Afghan forces had dislodged ISIS loyalists from regions of Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan. “Afghanistan will be their graveyard,” he said in an address broadcast live on national television. ISIS has had a presence in Afghanistan for more than a year. Officials have said most militants calling themselves IS are disaffected Taliban fighters. Afghan forces have claimed victory following a 21-day operation in the Achin and Shinwar districts of Nangarhar, claiming at least 200 militants killed, a provincial official told The Associated Press. Achin and Shinwar are among a number of districts in the remote mountainous regions along the Pakistan border that were overtaken by ISIS loyalists in recent months. Operations against the militants included airstrikes to destroy bases and a radio station that was broadcasting IS recruitment messages across Nangarhar province. The radio station was destroyed, along with at least seven militants, on Feb. 1.

Headline: IS forging migrant army in Libya
The Islamic State group (IS) in Libya is boosting its numbers by people-smuggling new recruits across Libya’s porous Southern borders and kidnapping migrant workers, Middle East Eye has learned. According to military sources as well as a former IS recruit, IS has been busy boosting numbers in Libya by kidnapping migrant workers at gunpoint and forcing them to train to be fighters or suicide bombers. This has allowed them to swell their ranks quickly, with US intelligence assessments in February saying IS now had an estimated 6,000 fighters in Libya, more than double what was previously thought. Security officials in Libya’s south claim that the country’s lack of border control has also allowed IS to recruit people abroad and bring them into Libya with impunity, saying the largest number of militants enter the country from Sudan. “Some migrants are not planning to work here in Libya or go to Europe on the boats but are heading to Sirte to join IS,” Special Forces soldier Ibrahim Barka Issa told MEE. Having worked undercover in countries bordering Libya’s South to assess the migrant situation, he said the biggest threat was from Sudan, where both radicalised nationals and refugees from Syria and Afghanistan were crossing.

Headline: ISIL assembly lines mass producing IEDs
Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) is manufacturing IEDs on an “industrial scale,” according to investigators. “It’s not just a few roadside bombs. There are literally fields of them (IEDs),” an investigator for Conflict Armament Research (CAR) told Foreign Affairs. “It’s unprecedented. We have never seen this before — it’s in the thousands and thousands.” The U.S. Department of Defense’s Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency (JIDA) confirmed CAR’s investigation. “Previously in Iraq, we would go after the lone bomb-maker using captured biometrics off an IED and try to link events together from that,” a JIDA spokesman told Foreign Affairs. “But now, we face IED factories on an industrial scale, with significant supply chains and funding lines.” JIDA said ISIL’s assembly line-like manufature of IEDs has caused Iraq to become the single most affected country by IED attacks in the world with 11,500 IED explosions causing more than 35,000 casualties in 2015 alone. Although U.S.-led coalition airstrikes have targeted and destroyed multiple ISIL bomb factories, the large swath of territory the terror group holds enables the jihadists to continually move and keep their IED supply line running.

Headline: Bomb explodes at Somali airport, wounding 3 people, police say
A bomb exploded in a piece of luggage at an airport in a central Somali town, wounding three people, a police official said Monday. The bomb went off at a checkpoint as soldiers searched through bags before passengers were allowed to board, said Ahmed Nur, a police official in the town of Beledweyne, where the incident happened Monday. An African Union peacekeeper was among the wounded, he said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but it bore the hallmarks of the Islamic extremist group al-Shabab. Last month a bomb exploded aboard a commercial passenger jet, creating a hole in the fuselage, blowing out the suspected bomber and forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Mogadishu. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for that attack.

Headline: Blast kills 17 as Pakistani Taliban avenge executed assassin
A suicide bomber killed 17 people and injured 31 in northwest Pakistan on Monday, in an attack which the Taliban described as revenge for the hanging of an Islamist assassin last week. The bomber, whom police said was aged around 20 and had up to six kilograms of explosives strapped to his chest, attacked as lawyers and litigants were arriving at a court complex during the morning rush hour in the town of Shabqadar. Senior government official Tariq Hassan said the death toll rose to 17 late Monday as four more of those injured succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The Pakistani Taliban’s Jamat-ul-Ahrar faction claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it avenged the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri — feted as a hero by Islamists after he gunned down the liberal governor of Punjab in 2011 over a call to reform the country’s blasphemy law. Qadri was hanged on February 29 in what analysts described as a key moment in Pakistan’s long fight against militancy, saying it demonstrated the government’s resolve to uphold the rule of law rather than allow extremism to flourish. His funeral brought up to 100,000 people on to the streets, hailing him as a hero.

Headline: ISIS branch calls on Muslims to kill ‘Russian apostates’, vows to attack Putin
Islamic State’s so-called ‘Caucasus Province’ has called on Russian Muslims to “kill apostates in Russia,” vowing to attack President Vladimir Putin and implement Sharia in the country.
In a video titled “Profitable Trading” released by the ISIS branch in the Northern Caucasus region of Russia on Saturday, the group’s fighters urged Muslims in Russia to join them, claiming that “the Caliphate is already here.” It is the first video the extremist group in the Caucasus has released since it pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in June 2015. The video begins with a news report which was broadcast on a Russian TV channel about a deadly car bombing that struck the town of Dzhemikent in Dagestan province on February 15, killing two Russian police officers. The video later presents the alleged Caucasus Province militant who carried out the attack. The video claims to show the perpetrator, Abu Abdurahman, speaking about the importance of “striking the apostates.” The group’s deputy emir, Abu Yasser, is also seen in the recording calling on Muslims in Russia to emigrate to the ‘province’ and join it, and if they cannot do so – “target the apostates wherever they are, using a rope or a knife.”

Headline: Hamas: Infiltrations into Israeli settlements to manifest the next phase of the ‘intifada’
Hamas has declared that the recent terror attacks committed by Palestinians in Israeli settlements in the West Bank show that “the next phase of the ‘Jerusalem intifada’ will cause great fear among settlers, who will no longer enjoy security.” In a press statement released on Thursday, Hamas Spokesman Husam Badran praised the two stabbing attacks and the shooting attack that took place Wednesday in Nablus that resulted in the injuring of three IDF soldiers. Badran said that the recurrent infiltrations by Palestinians into Israeli settlements, and the stabbing and shooting attacks they carry out inside, signal that the next phase of the intifada will sow fear among settlement residents. He added that Palestinians know that the settlements are Israel’s weak point, which means that “they would carry out new forms of courageous attacks by infiltrating these settlements.” “In the next days, the West Bank’s settlers will witness additional surprises from Hamas,” Badran further stated.

Headline: ISIS believed to have 100 members in Israel
Israeli officials believe that the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group has 100 activists in Israel, a year and a half since the group announced the establishment of a “caliphate” in parts of Syria and Iraq it captured. Channel 10 News reported on Thursday that according to statistics, about 34 indictments have been filed against Israeli Arabs on charges related to belonging to the organization and 40 Arab citizens have already left Israel to join the jihadist group. The Palestinian Authority estimates that ten Palestinian Arabs who have gone missing are believed to have crossed the border to the Sinai and Syria to join ISIS, according to the report. ISIS has announced that it intends to recruit as many Israeli citizens as possible in order to carry out a large attack with as many casualties as possible, and is believed to be actively recruiting members. The report came hours after two Arab Israelis from Nazareth and nearby Yafi’a in northern Israel were indicted on suspicion of plotting terror attacks on behalf of ISIS.

Headline: Fatah recommends forming constituent council for state of Palestine
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party recommended on Friday the formation of a constituent council for the future independent state of Palestine. Fatah said in an official emailed press statement issued at the end of a two-day meeting for its revolutionary council held in Ramallah and chaired by Abbas that the mission of the council is to prepare for the constitution of the state of Palestine. Fahmi Za’arir, Deputy Speaker of the revolutionary council, or Fatah parliament, said the constituent council will also end the status of the Palestinian Authority (PNA) parliament in the upcoming elections. “The constituent council for the state of Palestine will draft the covenant of the state of Palestine and the needed legislation for the state and its citizens,” Za’arir read from the statement issued after the two-day meeting of Fatah parliament. He stressed that the Palestinians can’t keep being unilaterally committed to the agreements signed with Israel, while Israel is not committed to it at all, adding that “we consider Israel as an occupation power that violated all the signed treaties.” Fatah council also called for stopping all forms of ties with the authorities of the Israeli occupation in accordance to the signed agreements “until Israel commits itself to the agreement.” It also called for studying the feasibility of withdrawing the recognition of the state of the occupation.

Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” (Psalm 83)
Headline: Hezbollah vows to invade Israel in the next war
Hezbollah sources cited in a unique speak peak into the Lebanese Iran-proxy terror group claim that they have gained powerful weapons and experience from the Syrian civil war, which will allow them to invade Israel in their third war against the Jewish state. The Foreign Policy article Thursday, entitled “Hezbollah’s Death Valley,” spoke about Hezbollah’s involvement in Syria, where it is fighting to prop up Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Iran’s orders. It has lost many of its terrorists there, but sources in the group told the paper the fighting has only helped them. “In the next war, Hezbollah won’t stay on the borders, and the Israeli settlements in the north will not be protected from this,” a source close to the terror group based in southern Lebanon told the paper, claiming Hezbollah now for the first time can infiltrate Israel in open war. “Hezbollah will bring the war to them, and Israel’s biggest concern is over Hezbollah’s experience in Syria, as it now has the experience to be offensive rather than just defensive.”

Headline: Saudis ready to give Syrian rebels missiles against Russian warplanes and tanks
For the first time in the five-year Syrian conflict, Saudi Arabia is preparing to supply Syrian rebel groups with anti-air and anti-tank missiles in an attempt to stall Russia’s military efforts to extend Bashar Assad’s days in power. Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the defense minister, is choreographing this escalated Saudi intervention in the Syrian war. He plans to arm Syrian rebels militias with missiles capable of striking the new Russian T-90 tanks. Most Western and Middle East observers think the Saudis may be bluffing about their plan to arm Syrian rebels with missiles, as a ploy to get Washington and Moscow to treat them seriously as a player on the Syrian stage and take their interests into account. Ideally, Riyadh would hope to break up American cooperation with Iran in Iraq and Russian cooperation with Iran in Syria. The Saudis have so far pitched into this endlessly complex scenario with two tangible steps:
- The deployment last week of four Saudi Air Force F-15 bomber fighters at the Turkish base of Incirlik near the Syrian border, to be followed by a contingent of ground troops for operations in Syria.
- A direct challenge to Iran’s fighting arm in Syria, the Lebanese Hizballah and its leader Hassan Nasrallah, by cancelling the $4 billion defense package Riyadh had pledged for the rehabilitation of Lebanon’s armed forces. The Lebanese high command is collaborating increasingly with Hizballah and a large slice of Saudi assistance funds would most certainly have reached its hands.
According to a high-ranking Saudi source, the decision to arm Syrian rebels with missiles is final. He said, “The Syrian opposition might soon acquire surface-to-air missiles, which will raise the wrath of Russia and Iran.” He added:: “No Saudi official will own up to these consignments but, just as 30 years ago, Saudi Arabia was not deterred from intervening in Afghanistan against the Russian army – and we came out the winners” – we will not hesitate to take on the Russian army in Syria too.

Headline: Gunmen execute 16 people, including 4 nuns, in Yemen retirement home
A team of gunmen unleashed a massacre at a retirement home run by Catholic nuns in Yemen Friday, killing 16 people including four nuns, Yemeni security officials and witnesses said. The gunmen then moved from room to room, handcuffing the victims before shooting each of them in the head. A nun who survived said that she hid inside a fridge in a storeroom after hearing a Yemeni guard shouting “run, run.” Missionaries of Charity, an organization established by Mother Teresa, runs the home in the chaotic southern port city of Aden, which descended into lawlessness after a Saudi-led coalition recaptured the city from Shiite Houthi rebels last summer. The bodies were transferred to a police station and then a hospital run by the aid organization known as Doctors Without Borders or MSF. An official with MSF confirmed that 15 bodies had arrived at the hospital. Al-Qaida controls several southern cities and ISIS has claimed responsibility for a wave of deadly attacks in Aden, including a suicide bombing that killed the city’s governor and several assassination attempts on top officials. Aden’s churches have also come under attack. In the summer, a Catholic church in the district of Crater was torched and sabotaged by Islamic extremists.

Syria Headline: Air raids hit Syria rebel bastion despite truce
Warplanes struck a key rebel bastion east of the Syrian capital on Friday for the first time since a fragile truce began over the weekend, a monitor said. “Two air strikes hit the edge of the town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta and one person was killed,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. He said the strikes were conducted by either Syrian or Russian planes. It was unclear whether the individual killed was a civilian or a fighter. Friday marked the seventh day of the truce brokered by the United States and Russia. Eastern Ghouta, the largest rebel bastion east of Damascus, was regularly and fiercely bombarded by government forces in the lead-up to the ceasefire. On the day before the truce came into effect, 25 air raids targeted the opposition stronghold, 10 of which struck Douma.

Iraq Headline: Iran wants control of Iraq’s Sinjar
A top official in an anti-Iranian Kurdish party has claimed Tehran aims to control the strategic Sinjar region along Iraq’s border with Syria that has become a flashpoint for inter-Kurdish tensions. Kurdistan Freedom Party military commander Hossein Yazdanpah accused the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of taking an increasingly active role in Sinjar, claiming that the commander in the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force toured the region two months ago alongside Hadi al-Ameri, a leader in the Tehran-backed Iraqi paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces. “The visit comes amid Iran’s ongoing attempt to control the ground route connecting Iran and Syria that stretches across the Kurdistan region’s territory, and to secure a passageway for weapons and fighters in Syria,” Yazdandah—a harsh critic of Tehran—told Saudi-owned Asharq Alawsat. “Iran wants to take control of the strategic Sinjar Mountain,” he said, adding that a number of other IRGC officers had traveled to the Yazidi-populated area via Baghdad.

Kurdish Headline: Syrian Kurds Planning a Federal Region in Northern Syria (Rojava)
After bringing a vast area in Northern Syria under their control, the Syrian Kurdish forces are now revealing their will for establishing a federal Kurdish region in Syria. Idris Nassan, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kobani canton, told BasNews that the Federalism project is to establish the Federal Region of Northern Syria based on unity and agreement of all ingredients in the area rather than a Kurdish Federal State, provoking concerns to countries like Turkey. “We are not intending to divide Syria or establish a Kurdish state” Nassan reasserted. The federal region will rather consist of all components and strengthen the national unity in Syria similar to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which is the most united and developed country in the region, Nassan argued. Regarding the form of the Federalism expected to be established, Nassan stated that “It will be formed based on the demographic composition of the area to exercise its distinctiveness with freedom and justice.” The world powers, Russia and USA, have demonstrated their agreement on the project of Federalism for the North of Syria despite their disputes over Syria’s issue.
*** Rojava is a de facto autonomous region in northern Syria, also known as Syrian Kurdistan. Rojava is unrecognized as autonomous by the government of Syria. Kurds generally consider Rojava to be one of the four parts of a greater Kurdistan, which also includes parts of eastern and southeastern Turkey (Northern Kurdistan/Turkish Kurdistan), northern Iraq (Southern Kurdistan/Iraqi Kurdistan), and northwestern Iran (Eastern Kurdistan/Iranian Kurdistan).

Headline: 2 militants killed in Istanbul after attack on police bus
Turkish police shot dead two female militants on Thursday after they fired shots and threw a grenade at a Turkish police bus in Istanbul, local media and the city governor said. A radical leftist group claimed responsibility for the attack, in which two police officers were lightly wounded, Gov. Vasip Sahin said in televised comments. One woman threw a grenade and the other opened fire with what appeared to be a machine gun as the riot police bus headed for the entrance of a police station in the Bayrampasa district of Turkey’s biggest city, footage from Dogan News Agency showed. Police fired back, injuring one of the women, before tracking them to a nearby building, CNN Turk said. Special forces units and police surrounded the building, television footage showed, leading to an hour-long stand-off in which there was sporadic gunfire and the women were shot dead. A claim of responsibility came from a website close to the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), a group that has repeatedly targeted police stations, largely in Istanbul suburbs.

Headline: Turkey ‘protects & supplies’ Al-Nusra camps at its border – Syria’s YPG to RT
Turkey is shelling Kurdish units fighting against the Nusra Front in Syria, while columns of trucks with various cargo and weapons for rebels cross into Syria from Turkey daily, Russian news agencies quoted Russia’s Defence Ministry as saying on Friday. A total of 41 ceasefire violations have been registered in Syria over the past two days, the ministry said. Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorists have pitched their camps right next to the border and receive regular supplies from the Turkish side, Syrian Kurdish forces told RT’s Lizzie Phelan, who traveled with YPG to investigate suspicious activity there. An RT crew has filmed a number of vehicles coming through the Bab al-Salam crossing on the Turkish-Syrian border, on the outskirts of the northern town of Azaz, which is partially controlled by Al-Nusra, according to reports. “We can actually see here the important border town of Azaz, that Turkey is determined to prevent YPG from taking. Just a little beyond that you can see the Bab al-Salam border crossing and a heavy flow of vehicles coming from Turkey into Azaz,” the RT correspondent said, reporting from the Turkey-Syria border, an area that TV crews rarely gain access to.

Headline: At least 25 die in South Sudan UN camp attack
At least 25 people were massacred and 120 wounded when gunmen in army uniforms attacked then torched a UN camp that was sheltering civilians in South Sudan last month, the UN said Friday. The updated toll comes two weeks after the two-day gun battle inside the camp in the northeastern town of Malakal, with a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) detailing the failure of peacekeepers to protect the civilians sheltering at the base. Over 47,000 people lived in the camp, after fleeing for safety from a civil war that broke out in December 2013. The UN has said the attack was a possible war crime. Reports of troops in government army uniforms storming the camp and “firing on civilians” were “credible”, OCHA said, contradicting initial UN claims that the fighting was between tribal “youths”. “About 3,700 families’ shelters were destroyed or damaged during the fighting and fires, along with multiple humanitarian facilities, including clinics, water tankers, nutrition centres and schools,” OCHA reported. Residents say 46 people were killed in the February 17-18 attack, while the UN has now updated to 25 an earlier toll of 18. Those killed include three aid workers, two of them South Sudanese health workers for medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF). One was murdered as he administered care, MSF said.

Headline: Death of Italians in Libya Ramps up Intervention Pressure
The death of two Italian hostages in Libya this week has added urgency to calls for Italy to intervene militarily in its former colony, with names being floated of an Italian to head an international coalition to fight the Islamic State group and plans for some 5,000 Italian troops to be deployed. But criticism of any military intervention is also growing, with opposition calls for the government of Premier Matteo Renzi to resist pressure from U.S. and European allies and at the very least to brief Parliament about its plans. The U.S. ambassador to Italy, John Phillips, said in an interview published Friday that Italy had committed to providing upwards of 5,000 troops for an international force to help stabilize Libya and prevent the Islamic State from posing a greater threat. A U.S. embassy spokesman stressed that Phillips was merely repeating what Italian defense and foreign ministers had said previously. But coupled with a steady stream of alarmist headlines in Italy about imminent military action in Libya, the interview seemed to point to plans that are increasingly taking shape.

Headline: Armenia pulled into Russia-Turkey clash in Syria
The clash between Russia and Turkey is not just taking place in the skies over Syria. It’s also spreading to the nearby Caucasus region, where a fresh wave of Russian military overtures to Armenia threatens to reignite a frozen conflict that has pitted Moscow against Ankara for decades. Given Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anger over the downing of a Russian fighter jet by Turkish forces in November, Moscow has spent the past several months beefing up its military footprint in Armenia, a country of roughly 3 million people that shares a 165-mile border and a land-mine-filled history with Turkey. After quietly signing an air defense agreement with the tiny former Soviet republic in December, Moscow has deployed at least four new MiG-29 fighter jets and a slew of other military vehicles to a Russian base just outside the Armenian capital of Yerevan. The moves constitute a case study in how the multinational, multifront conflict in Syria is spilling into other theaters, widening the zone of instability and heightening tensions between countries such Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as Turkey and Russia. According to Russian news reports, the air defense agreement was in the works for months. But the shipment of MiGs and new Russian helicopters in mid-February appears to have been Mr. Putin’s way of warning Turkey and its NATO allies of Moscow’s capacity to make trouble in the region. U.S. analysts are divided over the extent to which Armenia — which is wedged against Iran, Turkey and Russia — is actively aligning itself with the Russians or simply being bullied by Moscow as a pawn in Mr. Putin’s push to surround Turkey.

Headline: ISIS Sanctuary: March 3, 2016
Since the publication of ISW’s last ISIS Sanctuary Map on January 16, 2016, ISIS lost a major resource hub in Shaddadi, northeastern Syria and was expelled from its remaining positions in Ramadi, western Iraq. ISIS responded by launching a campaign against Kurdish forces in Tel Abyad, northern Syria, and briefly seizing the city of Khanaser, southeast of Aleppo from Syrian regime forces. ISIS also launched a wave of explosive attacks across Iraq and Syria, beginning with six suicide attacks on Homs and Damascus on February 22. ISIS likely aims to increase overall disorder by attacking civilian and military targets linked to Shi’a governments in Damascus and Baghdad, thereby facilitating its defense and opening new opportunities for its expansion. This map also features an updated representation of ISIS’s zone of control in northern Aleppo province, which was previously represented as a sanctuary zone.

Headline: ISIS in Southeast Asia: January 1-March 2, 2016
ISIS is using its safe haven and foreign fighter population in Iraq and Syria to expand influence in Southeast Asia, in pursuit of its grand strategic objective to rule all Muslim lands. ISIS’s Syria-based Southeast Asian fighters are resourcing and directing local networks to launch attacks. Competition between militant elements vying to lead the Southeast Asian pro-ISIS movement will likely encourage increased jihadist attacks in the short term, threatening urban areas and Western interests in the region. Support from ISIS’s safe haven may also facilitate the creation of an active, trans-national ISIS affiliate in Southeast Asia in the medium term. The U.S. has the opportunity to counter ISIS’s network in Southeast Asia before it develops further. ISIS claimed it first attack in the region on January 14 in Jakarta, an act that belied ISIS’s ambitions but reflected relatively low military capability. Southeast Asian jihadist groups are fragmented and face pressure from domestic counterterrorism operations. ISIS’s campaign in Southeast Asia is at an early stage, so the group currently poses a lower threat to security there than it does in Libya, Egypt, and Afghanistan, where its affiliates enjoy sanctuary, and in Yemen, where its affiliate is prolonging a civil war. Early action against ISIS’s Southeast Asian supporters can limit ISIS’s ability to develop an affiliate in the area, particularly as those supporters face resistance from locally-focused and al Qaeda-associated groups.

North Korea has fired six short-range projectiles into the sea, South Korea’s defence ministry has said, hours after the UN imposed tough new sanctions. A South Korean spokesman told the Yonhap news agency the projectiles were fired at about 10:00 local time (01:00 GMT) from Wonsan on the east coast. They were either rockets or guided missiles, the ministry said. Correspondents say it is being seen as an act of defiance against the sanctions. Hours earlier, the UN Security Council unanimously voted to impose some of its strongest ever sanctions against North Korea. The new measures are in reaction to North Korea’s recent nuclear test and satellite launch, both of which violated existing sanctions. They will result in all cargo going to and from the country being inspected, while 16 new individuals and 12 organizations have been blacklisted.

Headline:Philippines borrowing planes from Japan to patrol South China Sea
In a “show of force,” the U.S. Navy dispatched an aircraft carrier and five escort ships to the South China Sea amid rising tensions between the U.S., China and other Southeast Asian nations claiming territory in the disputed region, multiple defense officials confirmed to Fox News Friday. The dispatch sends a signal to China that the U.S. Navy will continue to conduct freedom of navigation patrols even as China continues to “militarize” islands, those officials say. The Navy Times reported Thursday the U.S. sent the USS John C. Stennis, two destroyers, two cruisers and the 7th Fleet flagship. The deployment comes after Defense Secretary Ash Carter warned China over the militarization of its claimed artificial islands. The Stennis was joined by the Japan-based cruisers Antietam and Mobile Bay and destroyers Chung-Hoon and Stockdale, according to the Navy Times. The command ship USS Blue Ridge, is also in the area and is heading for the Philippines. Officials said the Antietam was conducting a separate patrol from the Stennis. Tensions have increased over the last month after it was learned that China had placed surface-to-air-missiles on one of the Paracel Islands.

Headline: There’s a 100% Probability of a U.S. Recession Within a Year
The U.S. trade deficit widened more than expected in January as a strong dollar and weak global demand helped to push exports to a more than 5-1/2-year low, suggesting trade will continue to weigh on economic growth in the first quarter. The Commerce Department said on Friday the trade gap increased 2.2 percent to $45.7 billion. December’s trade deficit was revised up to $44.7 billion from the previously reported $43.4 billion. Exports have declined for four straight months. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the trade deficit widening to $44.0 billion in January. When adjusted for inflation, the deficit increased to $61.97 billion from $60.09 billion in December. Trade subtracted a quarter of a percentage point from gross domestic product in the fourth quarter, helping to hold down growth to a tepid 1.0 percent annual rate. In January, exports of goods fell 3.3 percent to $116.9 billion, the lowest level since November 2010. Overall exports of goods and services dropped 2.1 percent to their lowest level since June 2011.

Headline: NASA Studies Tree Rings to Show Eastern Mediterranean Drought Worst in 900 Years
A new NASA study finds that the recent drought that began in 1998 in the eastern Mediterranean Levant: Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, is probably the worst drought of the past nine centuries. Scientists reconstructed the Mediterranean’s drought history by studying tree rings as part of an effort to understand the region’s climate and what shifts water to or from the area. Thin rings indicate dry years while thick rings show years when water was plentiful. In addition to identifying the driest years, the science team discovered patterns in the geographic distribution of droughts that provides a “fingerprint” for identifying the underlying causes. Together, these data show the range of natural variation in Mediterranean drought occurrence, which will allow scientists to differentiate droughts made worse by human-induced global warming. The research is part of NASA’s ongoing work to improve the computer models that simulate climate now and in the future. “The magnitude and significance of human climate change requires us to really understand the full range of natural climate variability,” said Ben Cook, lead author and climate scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University in New York City.

Officials in Wisconsin are investigating an outbreak involving a rare bacteria that may be linked to the deaths of nearly 20 people in the past few months. The bacteria, Elizabethkingia anophelis, cause infections in the bloodstream and has mainly affected people over the age of 65 in southern Wisconsin. Fourty-four people were infected between November 1 and March 2, and the bacteria could be responsible for the deaths of 18, NBC News reports. So-called disease detectives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been called in to help find the source of the infection. All the patients studied so far have a history of at least one underlying illness, including diabetes, renal disease or cirrhosis, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Symptoms of Elizabethkingia infection include shortness of breath, fever and chills. “The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Public Health (DPH) is currently investigating an outbreak of bloodstream infections caused by Elizabethkingia,” the department said in a statement on Thursday. “At this time, the source of these infections is unknown and the Department is working diligently to contain this outbreak.”

Headline: NBC Blatantly Promotes Transgender Propaganda—Again
NBC spent a great amount of time recently promoting the transgender lifestyle for both adults and children. The network’s Parminder Deo touted a Pediatrics study that concluded that if kids live openly as transgender with supportive families, they experience no abnormal anxiety and depression. “Support and acceptance” is the key, Deo said. The study, however, led by Kristina Olson of the University of Washington was conducted using questionable methods. It surveyed 73 kids aged 3 to 12 and simply asked parents whether their kids had shown symptoms of depression or anxiety during the past week. NBC rushed to report the study as proof that transitioning early is healthier for both parents and kids.

I begin with this news story above as an opening to point out the spiritual battle taking place all around us is becoming both ‘more aggressive and more subtle’ in our daily lives; particularly places where we don’t feel the need to ‘be on guard’…such as sitting down to watch TV at the end of the day.
NBC isn’t the only network guilty of this. Fox has aired a show called “Lucifer”, a comedy-drama television series focuses on Lucifer Morningstar, “who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell and resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the beauty of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals”. No where in the Bible does it say that Satan is a ‘good guy’ getting the bad guys. In 2 Corinthians 11:14 it tells us plainly that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:3 says” But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ”.
CBS has also introduced a ‘comedy’ called Angel from Hell, about an ‘inebriated nut’ who claims to be a guardian angel. Fortunately, CBS has pulled the series.
ABC has The Real O’Neals, a comedy about a Catholic family whose 16 year old son ‘comes out’ as gay. The truly awful twist of this show is that Dan Savage is the executive producer. Savage is best known as a notorious X-rated sex-columnist, homosexual activist and atheist. Among Dan Savage’s numerous appalling statements, he said as recently as 2013 that he sometimes thinks abortion should be “mandatory” to stop population growth, and was caught on camera telling a crowd of high school students during one speech to ignore the “bulls**t in the Bible,” and then lambasted those students that stood up and walked out on him for being “pansies.”
Even TV Land has gone so far as to mock Christians with its ‘comedy’ “Impastor”. Impastor follows Buddy Dobbs, a fugitive and hard-core gambling addict who, in order to hide from a pair of loan sharks, ends up stealing the identity of a recently deceased gay pastor.
And many more…too many to list here. The point being …..there are NO safe places anymore. Even in our ‘down-time’ we must be on guard. The spiritual battle in which every Christian is engaged has reached epic proportions! Many of us are tired- tired of the fight, tired of always being ‘watchful’.
But this is the time to rally! We are almost at the end of the race. NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER is the battle cry of our faith in Jesus Christ.
“Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle— My lovingkindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.” (Psalm 144:1-2 )
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Matthew 24:7 “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” Luke21:25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring”

Before you go and vote for Mr. Trump there are some things that were just brought to light about him that you should know. I must warn you John Oliver in the video below does use some cursing which I wish he did not use because there was no need for it. That being said, Mr. Oliver in a comic way really gives you facts about Trump that have not been brought out on the debates yet. Most of what Mr. Oliver says in the video below I did not know. I am glad I found out these facts. I am sure you will also find the facts very interesting as well. It does appear Mr. Trump is not the person most people think he is.
Headline: Palestinian Killed When Israeli Soldiers Enter Refugee Camp
A Palestinian was shot dead Monday night in a riot after two Israeli soldiers accidentally entered a West Bank refugee camp, officials said. Violence erupted when the soldiers, using the cellphone navigation app Waze, strayed into the Qalandia refugee camp north of Jerusalem. The two Israelis had been traveling from Jerusalem approximately 10 miles north into the West Bank city of Ramallah. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the soldiers met with a crowd that directed gunfire, Molotov cocktails, and rocks at their military vehicle. Israeli military forces were sent to retrieve the pair, who were found later after having escaped on foot. The crowd reportedly set fire to the vehicle, and five Israeli border policemen were injured. In response, security forces “fired toward the direction” of oncoming gunfire, said the IDF. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that a 22-year-old Palestinian man was killed in the exchange of gunfire and that four others were injured. An additional 12 people were wounded by rubber bullets.

Headline: Gazan ISIS supporters angry at close relationship with Hamas
Reports of cooperation between Hamas in Gaza and ISIS in the Sinai Peninsula are nothing new, but a recently-obtained letter from one ISIS jihadist reveals just how deeply those ties stretch – and that not all of Islamic State’s supporters are particularly enamored with it. A letter posted to social media by a Gaza-born ISIS fighter now in Syria named “Abu Abdallah Al-Muhajir” excoriates ISIS’s Sinai affiliate – “Sinai Province” – for, in the author’s view, betraying fellow ISIS supporters inside Gaza itself. He accuses Sinai Province leaders of forging close personal and strategic relationships with Hamas even while the rulers of Gaza arrest and torture Gazan ISIS-affiliated jihadists Al-Muhajir addresses his letter to the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed “Caliph” himself, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and appeals to his leader to act to end ties between the groups. These include mutual weapons smuggling, production of explosives, and Hamas medical treatment for wounded ISIS fighters – who are placed under the protection of members of Hamas’s Ezzadine al-Qassam Brigades. Even Sinai Province’s military uniforms are manufactured by Hamas in Gaza, according to Al-Muhajir.

“Do not keep silent, O God!
Headline: Jordan thwarts ISIS suicide bombing plot inside country
Jordan’s security services said on Wednesday they had thwarted a plot by Islamic State militants to blow up civilian and military targets, in one of the US ally’s largest sweeps in years against hardline sleeper cells. The security services located the militants, who were carrying suicide belts, in a hideout in the northern city of Irbid near the Syrian border, they said in a statement carried by the state news agency Petra. Seven militants were killed in clashes that began on Tuesday night and lasted till dawn and one police officer was also killed, the statement said. The security services seized automatic weapons, munitions and explosives from the group. “After diligent and detailed intelligence gathering the intelligence department was able soon to thwart a criminal and destructive plot linked by the terrorist Daesh group aimed at destabilizing national security,” the statement said, using the Arabic acronym for Islamic State. Two security sources said dozens of special forces had been involved in the operation and that the militants had been holed up near a Palestinian refugee camp in the center of Irbid. The militants who refused to hand themselves over engaged in heavy exchange of gunfire with special forces in the clashes that also injured five policemen, the security services’ statement said.

Headline: Gulf Cooperation Council Declares Hezbollah a Terror Group
Headline: Lebanon interior minister rejects Arab summit statement classifying Hezbollah as terrorist group
The six-member Gulf Cooperation Council led by Saudi Arabia formally declared Hezbollah to be a terrorist organization on Wednesday (March 2). The group has already been declared a terrorist entity by the European Union and the United States. Hezbollah was blacklisted by the group in response to hostile acts perpetrated within GCC member states, the GCC said in a statement. Among the offenses listed were attempts to recruit new terrorists and smuggling weapons and explosives. The other five members of the GCC are the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. All have recently withdrawn staff members from their embassies in Beirut and issued warnings to their citizens against travel to Lebanon. The move is seen by analysts as the lining up of Sunni Muslim nations against the Shi’ite Iranian axis being formed in the region. But it is also a move by Saudi Arabia to draw closer to the Western world at a time when radical Islamists are pulling Muslim-majority nations in the opposite direction.

Headline:Hezbollah launches Chemicals & Dirty Bombs program at secret Syrian site
The southwestern town of Zabadani, 30 km west of Damascus, is a ghost town, depopulated by five years of Syrian war ravages, except for one sign of life – or rather death. Since December, Hizballah has enclosed this once attractive tourist resort, strategically located on the Damascus-Beirut highway, into a heavily fortified ex territoria enclave whose high walls conceal the terrorist group’s new program for the development of weapons of mass destruction. This is disclosed for the first time by debkafile’s military and intelligence sources. Most of the facilities for the research and development of chemical weapons and dirty bombs are sunk below the surface of the secret 2.5 sq. km site. Syrian and Iranian engineers and technicians are developing the chemical weapons for Hizballah’s arsenal, and foreign experts were hired from outside the Middle East to help build radioactive weapons. They are kept out of sight in on-site accommodation at Zabadani. A telltale sign that the Shiite terrorist organization was actively pursuing a radioactive bomb program – and which prompted our investigation – was dropped in a speech given by Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Feb. 16. He boasted that a pair of Hizballah rockets falling on the Israeli city of Haifa would cause a catastrophe equivalent to a “nuclear bomb” attack. He elaborated on this: “An Israeli expert had said that Haifa’s residents fear a deadly attack on the ammonia storage tanks which contain more than 15,000 tons of this gas. That would lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of Israelis and affect another 800,000,” he declared. “This would be exactly like a nuclear bomb and we can say that Lebanon today has a nuclear bomb, seeing as any rocket that might hit these tanks is capable of creating a nuclear bomb effect,” Nasrallah said. When someone like the Hizballah terrorist chief drops four references to a nuclear bomb in as many sentences, ending with the boast that “Lebanon today has nuclear bomb,” it must be presumed that he is crowing over some sort of nuclear device in hand.

Headline: Egyptian MP removed from office after meeting with Israeli ambassador
Following his recent meeting with the Israeli ambassador, Egyptian Member of Parliament Tawfik Okasha was ousted from his position on Wednesday, in a decision made by two thirds of the Egyptian lawmakers. 465 out of the 595 representatives voted in favor of his removal from office on the grounds that his meeting with Israeli ambassador Haim Koren damaged relations with neighboring nations and that it infringed upon the established parliamentary policy which opposes normalization of relations with Israel. The vote came three days after Okasha was accosted in parliament when another lawmaker hurled a shoe at him and demanded he be suspended from parliament for his misconduct. The former MP sparked the initial public outcry when he extended an invitation to the Israeli ambassador during his TV show “Egypt Today.” He announced in the broadcast: “I have personally invited the Israeli ambassador to Cairo, Haim Koren, to a dinner at my house next week to discuss the Nile dispute and other important issues.”

Syria Headline: Plan B for Syria
Following the signing of the Syrian ceasefire agreement by the 17-countries International Syria Support Group, (ISSG), U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry announced that time was essential with regard to the implementation of the ceasefire if Syria’s territorial integrity was to be preserved. Syria could indeed fragment, and the United States are not the only player with a Plan B. Others with a Plan B include Russia, Turkey, Israel, and Iran. All members of the ISSG agreed on the implementation of a ceasefire in Syria, to begin next week. The group, jointly chaired by Russia and the USA, also agreed that the ceasefire would not include the self-proclaimed Islamic State (a.k.a. ISIS, ISIL, or Daesh), as well as Jabhat Al-Nusrah and other Al-Qaeda franchises. A coordination hotline is being established at the Hmeinim Air Base from where the Russian Air Force is conducting operations in Syria. The hotline will be operated by Russian military personnel and serve primarily as a means for all of the belligerent parties in Syria to have a contact point to coordinate the ceasefire, to avoid unintended confrontations, and to de-escalate situations in cases where clashes erupt. The Syrian government fully endorses the agreement but stresses that it would not allow terrorists to take strategic or tactical advantage of the ceasefire. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry briefed the press on the agreement and warned that time was of the essence if the territorial integrity of Syria should be preserved. The statement has been ill received in Russian media. The United States, however, is not the only international or regional player with a Plan B up the sleeve. The United States and NATO have long considered the establishment of a so-called Kurdish Corridor (see map) as a prime objective. The plan aims at the fragmentation of Syria, Iraq, and ultimately northern Iran. Military and Security analysts, such as Pakistani Major (r) Agha H. Amin noted that the long-term objective is the establishment of a belt of low-intensity conflicts from the Mediterranean, and along Russia’s soft and resource-rich underbelly to Pakistan and beyond. Hence the deployment of U.S. Special Forces to aid Syrian – Kurdish YPG / PYG fighters. The YPG / PYG is not (yet) officially calling for the establishment of a separate Kurdish State on Syrian territory. The Syrian government has, however, made considerable concessions to the YPG /PYG with regard to regional self-determination. The YPG / PYG is a traditional ally of the Turkish Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, and most NATO member States.

Syria Headline: Israel claims Syria used chemical weapons during cease-fire
Israel on Tuesday accused Syrian government forces of using chemical weapons against civilians since the start of a cease-fire brokered by the U.S. and Russia aimed at ending the bloody conflict. “The Syrians used military grade chemical weapons and lately have been using materials, chlorine, against civilians, including in these very days, after the supposed cease-fire, dropping barrels of chlorine on civilians,” Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said in Tel Aviv, without providing further details. A fact-finding mission by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a global chemical weapons watchdog, concluded in 2014 that the use of chlorine gas has been “systematic” in the war, even after the Syrian government handed over a stockpile of chemical arms, Reuters reports. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the Syria cease-fire efforts, but said Israel may still carry out attacks to counter any threats to its national security, Reuters reports.

Syria Headline: 18 killed in car bomb against Syrian insurgents in southern province Quneitra: monitor
Eighteen fighters were killed in a car bomb blast that hit a Syrian insurgent group in the southern province of Quneitra on Wednesday, a monitoring group reported, and a rebel source said the attack was likely carried out by hardline Islamists. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the explosion took place in the village of al-Isha, hitting a base belonging to Jabhat Thuwwar Souria, a Free Syrian Army group. Suhaib al-Ruhail, a spokesman for the Alwiyat al-Furqan group which operates in the area, said it was most likely carried out by “Daesh sleeper cells”, a reference to Islamic State. The incident did not appear to be related to the current cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government and its allies and non-jihadist insurgent groups.

Syria Headline: Syrian govt forces open new battle with rebels in northwest
Syrian government forces launched an attack Wednesday to capture a rebel-held hill in north-western Syria, a rebel official and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported, an expansion of operations that have continued in that area despite a deal to cease fighting. Rebels said the assault on Kabani hill in the province of Latakia was supported by Russian airstrikes. Both the government and rebels have accused each other of violating the truce, which came into effect Saturday. The agreement does not include ISIS or the Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-linked group that has a wide presence in northwestern Syria. The hill overlooks the rebel-held town of Jisr al-Shughour in neighboring Idlib province, and the Ghab Plain, where rebel advances last year were seen as a growing threat to President Bashar Assad. “The regime and militias are trying to storm (the hill) under very fierce Russian air cover and artillery fire,” said Fadi Ahmad, spokesman for the First Coastal Division, a group fighting under the banner of the Free Syrian Army. Rami Abdulrahman, Observatory director, said: “If the regime is able to capture Kabani hill, the insurgents will be in a difficult position because this hill overlooks the Ghab Plain and Jisr al-Shughour.”

Iraq Headline: U.S. Army’s Delta Force begins operations against ISIL in Iraq
Soldiers with the U.S. Army’s elite Delta Force are on the ground in Iraq and have begun missions to capture or kill top Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) operatives. “The only thing I’ll say is the (Expeditionary Targeting Force) is in position, it is having an effect and operating, and I expect it to be a very effective part of our acceleration campaign,” Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said. An Obama administration official told CNN the Delta Force “has spent the last several weeks preparing, including setting up safe houses, establishing informant networks and coordinating operations with Iraqi and Peshmerga units.” Carter said the Delta Force will conduct raids, seize places and people, and free ISIL-held hostages and prisoners, adding the force would cause ISIL “to fear that anywhere, anytime, it may be struck.”

Iraq Headline: Iraq begins major operation to retake Baghdad area
Four suicide bombers disguised as soldiers have targeted an Iraqi military base, killing eight army officers including a local commander, in an attack claimed by Islamic State. One of the bombers attacked the gate of the compound in the western town of Haditha, and the others struck after soldiers gathered to help the victims. Eight soldiers were wounded in the attack. IS claimed the assault in online statements issued on jihadi websites, saying it was carried out by two Syrian suicide bombers. Massive bombings claimed by IS over the last two days in Baghdad and the north-eastern town of Muqdadiyah killed at least 110 people. On Tuesday, separate attacks in and around Baghdad killed at least 13 people and wounded 31 others, according to police and health officials.

Kurdish Headline: Kurdish-led fighters close in on Syrian city of Aleppo
A Kurdish-led fighting alliance Wednesday captured a hill overlooking a main road in Aleppo from the militant Nusra Front group and its allies, in a surprise offensive aimed at encircling the northern city, Syrian opposition activists and state media said. Syrian state TV reported that pro-government gunmen captured Castello hill, “cutting supply lines for terrorists” in eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo with southern parts of Aleppo province. Sami al-Raj, an Aleppo-based opposition activist, confirmed the SDF advances via Skype, saying they are now very close to the road. An opposition activist based in Turkey said the SDF’s apparent aim is to push north of the Aleppo neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud and reach government forces in the nearby town of Handarat, which would completely besiege the eastern neighborhoods of the city that are under rebel control. He spoke on condition of anonymity fearing retaliation. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported fighting between Kurdish fighters and militants near Sheikh Maqsoud. It added that militants shelled the predominantly Kurdish Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, wounding nearly 20 people.

Headline: Pentagon approves sale of ‘bunker buster’ bombs to Ankara
A representative appointed by Turkey’s Defense Ministry has been sent to Israel in order to procure Israeli made weapons and aircraft equipment as a condition for the return to normalized relations between the two countries, Arab media reported Wednesday. According to Kuwati based newspaper publication al-Jarida, Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz sent a special envoy Tuesday to meet with Israel’s security echelon in order to negotiate financial terms concerning weapons sales. Israel in turn has demanded to know whether the weapons were intended to attack Kurdish rebels positioned on the Turkish-Syrian border, according to the report. The Turkish government made clear that the weapons sales, including the purchasing of unmanned aerial vehicles, was part of a wider framework agreement in which the two countries would normalize relations, according to the al-Jardia report. Israel has yet to responded to the Turkish request, waiting to see if Ankara was still committed to honoring previous agreements to buy gas from the Jewish state. In turn, Turkey has yet to respond to Israeli inquiries concerning the use of UAV’s against the Kurds.

A massive bomb blast and a gun battle in which five attackers were killed Wednesday shook India’s consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. A suicide bomber set off an explosion at the consulate’s front gate, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said. Everyone working within the building was safe, though minor injuries were reported. Afghan security forces and India’s Indo-Tibetan Border Police engaged in a gunfight with militants in the street. No group has taken responsibility for the attacks. Police said the suicide bomber killed only himself, and that nine people were injured in the gun battle. Headline: Tunisia Backs Plan to Host German Troops to Train Libyan Army
Tunisia’s government backs a plan for German forces to come to the country to train troops from neighboring Libya for the fight against Islamic State militants, the Tunisian defense minister said on Tuesday. The Islamic State militants have taken advantage of political chaos and a security vacuum in Libya to expand their presence there, taking control of the city of Sirte and staging frequent attacks. Western officials are discussing ways to counter the group, including through the use of air strikes and Special Forces operations, though plans for outside assistance have been hampered by the failure of a United Nations-backed unity government in Libya to win wide approval in the country. Last week a German delegation visited Tunisia to discuss a training program for Libyan forces. “We agree on the principle of the project,” Tunisian Defense Minister Farhat Harchani said in an interview with the TAP state news agency. He gave no details on the nature of the training or when it might happen, but said Tunisian forces would also take part.

Headline: ISIS’s Regional Campaign: February 2016
ISIS continued to develop its regional presence despite setbacks in Iraq and Syria in February. The organization launched spectacular attacks to weaken security in Iraq and Syria as it faces territorial losses, declining revenue, and decreased foreign fighter inflows in both countries. ISIS meanwhile strengthened its presence in Libya, launching large-scale attacks and defending its stronghold of Sirte despite ground opposition from rival militant groups and airstrikes by the U.S. and other actors. ISIS also maintained operational capability in other regions, as demonstrated by its attacks in the Gulf, Maghreb, and the Caucasus. ISIS’s military campaigns and safe haven outside of Iraq and Syria give it strategic resiliency that will ensure its longevity despite pressure on its Caliphate.

Headline: Nato commander: Isis ‘spreading like cancer’ among refugees
Refugees from the Middle East and north Africa are “masking the movement” of terrorists and criminals, Nato’s top commander told Congress on Tuesday, despite the protests of human rights groups who say that refugees overwhelmingly have no ulterior motive but escape. In testimony to the Senate armed services committee, US general Philip Breedlove said that the Islamic State terror group is “spreading like a cancer” among refugees. The group’s members are “taking advantage of paths of least resistance, threatening European nations and our own”, he added. Breedlove also blamed Russia’s bombing campaign in Syria, in support of autocratic leader Bashar al-Assad, for having “wildly exacerbated the problem”. The airstrikes, nominally against Isis but largely against the various rebel groups arrayed against Assad, have allegedly killed more than 1,000 civilians, including children. Breedlove said these indiscriminate attacks mean to terrorize Syrians and “get them on the road” toward neighboring countries and Europe. The Kremlin and Assad intend, according to Breedlove, to use migration as a weapon to weaken European unity and infrastructure. The general said that European nationalist groups that oppose immigration also weaken the continent, and could themselves threaten violence. Since taking command in 2013, Breedlove has pushed for an aggressive refortification of Europe, calling Russia a “long-term existential threat” to the US, and suggested Europe and the US should do more to counter Assad and Isis in Syria.

Headline: Moody’s cuts China outlook
Moody’s downgraded its outlook on Chinese government debt to “negative” from “stable” on Wednesday, citing uncertainty over authorities’ capacity to implement economic reforms, rising government debt and falling reserves. The Moody’s downgrade comes just days before the National People’s Congress (NPC) is due to vote on China’s 13th five year plan, a closely held development blueprint for the next five years, which policymakers began formally drafting in 2015. Analysts will closely scrutinize the NPC’s final text for hints on the likely trajectory of reform and policymakers’ thinking on the appropriate growth strategy for China – key factors highlighted by Moody’s in the report issued on Wednesday. “Without credible and efficient reforms, China’s GDP growth would slow more markedly as a high debt burden dampens business investment and demographics turn increasingly unfavorable. Government debt would increase more sharply than we currently expect,” Moody’s said. The agency said the downgrade was driven by expectations that China’s fiscal strength will continue to decline, as well as the fall in its foreign exchange reserves which have shrunk by $762 billion over the last 18 months.

Headline: Vietnam hit by worst drought in 90 years
Vietnam is suffering its worst drought in nearly a century with salinization hitting farmers especially hard in the crucial southern Mekong delta, experts said Monday. “The water level of the Mekong River has gone down to its lowest level since 1926, leading to the worst drought and salinization there,” Nguyen Van Tinh, deputy head of the hydraulics department under the Ministry of Agriculture, told AFP. The low-lying and heavily cultivated Mekong region is home to more than 20 million people and is the country’s rice basket. Intensive cultivation and rising sea levels already make it one of the world’s most ecologically sensitive regions. Scientists blame the ongoing 2015-2016 El Nino weather phenomenon, one of the most powerful on record, for the current drought. Water shortages have also hampered agriculture in nearby Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Le Anh Tuan, a professor of climate change at the University of Can Tho in the heart of the Mekong region, said as much as 40-50 percent of the 2.2 million hectares (5.4 million acres) of arable land in the delta had been hit by salinization.

Headline: Brazil confirms 641 cases of microcephaly amid Zika outbreak
Brazil has confirmed 641 cases of microcephaly and 139 babies with the birth defect who have died since the Zika virus outbreak started in October, the Health Ministry said. The latest figure was up 10 percent over the number of microcephaly cases reported by the ministry last week. Authorities were investigating another 4,222 possible cases of microcephaly, in which a baby is born with an abnormally small head and often incomplete brain development. Scientists in Brazil say the increase in microcephaly is linked to an explosion of the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus, with an estimated 1.5 million people infected. The World Health Organization is studying the possible connection and calls the Zika outbreak an international health emergency.

Authorities in Japan have banned access to an area within a radius of 1km of the Niigata-Yakeyama volcano on the border of Niigata and Nagano prefectures, TASS reported. Meteorologists cited an increased activity of the volcano. Frequent emissions of steam and gases have been recorded on its eastern slope over the year. Gas and steam ejected on the surface of slopes to a height of 100 meters this year, NHK said. Higher temperature was recorded on separate sections of the volcano, considered ‘relatively active’.

Headline: Lebanon army targets ISIS on northeast border
The Lebanese Army Monday targeted gatherings of ISIS militants on the northeastern border with missiles, a security source said. The army shells militants along the border on a nearly daily basis, but Monday’s attack on the positions in an area between the eastern outskirts of Arsal and Ras Baalbek used more sophisticated weapons than in previous operations, the source said. The number of casualties is still unclear. The attack comes about four weeks since the military launched a major crackdown on ISIS inside Arsal, killing six suspected militants and arresting 16.

A suicide car bombing killed four people Monday when it hit a gathering of loyalist forces in Yemen’s Aden, the southern city serving as a government base, a security official said. Five others were wounded in the attack in the residential Sheikh Othman district, the official said. The suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into an area where security forces and pro-government militiamen had assembled, the official said. President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi has declared Aden as Yemen’s temporary capital as Sanaa remains in the hands of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and their allies since they seized it in September 2014.

Syria Headline: Syrian army takes land east of Damascus during fragile truce
Syrian armed forces took territory east of Damascus on Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, on the third day of a fragile international attempt to halt nearly five years of fighting. A Syrian rebel spokesman said this was a violation of the truce deal in place. The Observatory said that Syrian government forces took control of a strategically important piece of land between two neighborhoods in the eastern Ghouta suburb of Damascus. The capture of the land between Beit Nayim and Harasta al-Qantara came after Syrian and allied forces fought Islamist factions and the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front for around 24 hours, the Observatory said. A fragile truce came into force in Syria early on Saturday, but the main opposition group has said that the deal could collapse because of continuing attacks by government forces.

Syria Headline: Syria 90-Day Forecast
The expanded interventions of Russia and Iran into the Syrian Civil War have shifted the trajectory of the conflict in favor of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, granting him the strongest position on the battlefield as of February 24, 2016. Regime forces bolstered by Iranian ground troops and Russian air support have achieved major gains against both the Syrian armed opposition and ISIS in Northern Syria since September 2015, marking a fundamental shift in battlefield momentum following a compounding series of regime losses in the first half of 2015. President Assad now sits within reach of several of his military objectives, including the encirclement and isolation of Aleppo City and the establishment of a secure defensive perimeter along the Syrian Coast. The regime and its allies will likely retain their battlefield gains if there is no intervention by the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE.

Iraq Headline: Twin suicide bombing kills 70 in Baghdad’s deadliest attack this year
Iraq Headline: ISIS claims responsibility for third deadly Iraq bombing in 2 days
A twin suicide bombing claimed by Islamic State killed 70 people in a Shi’ite district of Baghdad on Sunday in the deadliest attack inside the capital this year, as militants launched an assault on its western outskirts. Police sources said the suicide bombers were riding motorcycles and blew themselves up in a crowded mobile phone market in Sadr City, wounding more than 100 people in addition to the dead. In a statement circulated online, Islamic State said it was responsible for the blasts: “Our swords will not cease to cut off the heads of the rejectionist polytheists, wherever they are,” it said, using derogatory terms for Shi’ite Muslims. At dawn on Sunday, suicide bombers and gunmen attacked Iraqi security forces in Abu Ghraib, seizing positions in a grain silo and a cemetery, and killing at least 17 members of the security forces, officials said. Security officials blamed Islamic State, and a news agency that supports the group said it had launched a “wide attack” in Abu Ghraib, 25 km (15 miles) from the center of Baghdad and next to the international airport. Security forces had mostly regained control by Sunday evening but officials said there were still clashes. Meanwhile, The Islamic State continued its bombing rampage in Iraq Monday claiming responsibility for an attack at a funeral that killed at least 38 people, in a new sign the terror group is resorting to mass attacks on civilians as it suffers battlefield setbacks. Monday’s bombing struck a funeral in Muqdadiyah, about 60 miles north of Baghdad. 52 people were wounded, according to security and hospital officials.

Iraq Headline: US warns of Mosul dam collapse in northern Iraq
The US embassy in Baghdad has warned the risk of the Mosul Dam collapsing is “serious and unprecedented” and has urged people to be ready to evacuate. Maintenance work was disrupted after the dam was briefly seized by militants from so-called Islamic State in 2014. If the dam burst, floodwaters could kill 1.47 million Iraqis living along the River Tigris, the embassy said. Iraq’s prime minister has said precautions are being taken, but that such a scenario is “highly unlikely”. The statement issued by the US embassy on Sunday it had “no specific information that indicates when a breach might occur” in the Mosul Dam. “But out of an abundance of caution, we would like to underscore that prompt evacuation offers the most effective tool to save event of a breach,” it added. “Proper preparation could save many lives.”

Headline: Turkish military bombs ISIS positions in Syria – local media
The Turkish military struck Islamic State positions inside Syria on Monday, local media reported. It came as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he would be in favor of a Syrian ceasefire that encompasses the whole of the country. Fifty artillery rounds were fired by the Turkish military on targets north of Aleppo on Monday as part of the US-led coalition’s offensive against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Turkish broadcaster NTV reported. On Sunday, a Russian TV crew managed to obtain video proof of Turkey’s increased military presence on the Syrian border, which showed fortifications and tanks at the frontier. “The barrels of the tanks and self-propelled guns are pointed in the direction of the mainly Kurdish Syrian city of Kobane,” a journalist from REN-TV said. It came just one day after reports emerged of the northern Syrian town of Tell Abyad being attacked by militants coming from Turkey. Erdogan stressed on Monday that the ceasefire – which went into effect at midnight local time on February 27 – only covers one-third of Syria, adding that he would be in favor of a truce that encompassed the whole of the country. However, Ankara has made clear that it will continue to fight IS and the Syrian Kurds during the ceasefire, with Davutoglu stating that Turkey will take all “necessary measures.”

Headline: Afghanistan Partial Threat Assessment: February 2016
A Taliban suicide bomber blew himself up near the Afghan defense ministry in Kabul on Saturday, causing heavy casualties just hours after an attack in the eastern province of Kunar killed 13 people and put prospects for new peace talks in doubt. The attack in Kabul killed 15 people and wounded 33, most of them defense ministry staff leaving their offices, according to ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri. Witnesses at the scene, where a large plume of smoke spiraled into the sky, said they had seen a number of bodies on the ground. The area was sealed off as police and army vehicles surrounded the blast site. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which the movement’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said had killed 23 officers and wounded 29 others. He said there were no civilian casualties. Earlier on Saturday, a suicide bomber killed a local militia commander and at least 12 others outside the governor’s compound in Asadabad, the provincial capital of Kunar, near the border with Pakistan. Provincial Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai said the bomber rode up on a motorcycle to the entrance of the compound and blew himself up, wounding at least 40 people. “Most of the victims were civilians and children who were either passing by or playing in the park,” he said.

Three huge explosions rocked the area around dawn, the member of Bani Walid’s municipal council told Reuters. People living in Ras Al-Tbel, about 80 km (50 miles) south-east of Bani Walid, had seen the same convoy of up to 15 vehicles carrying black Daesh flags over the past two days, the official added. Headline: UK troops sent to Tunisia to bolster Libyan border
British soldiers have been deployed to Tunisia to help stop the flow of Islamic State fighters across the border from Libya after the slaughter of holidaymakers, it was announced today. The UK military trainers were sent earlier this month to train the Tunisian army in how to guard their 285-mile border with the war-torn country, which has descended into chaos following the overthrow of Colonel Gadaffi. Their mission follows requests by the local government, which has launched a crackdown against suspected jihadist cells following the massacre of 30 Britons on a beach in Sousse last summer. Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said he was ‘extremely concerned’ about the ‘proliferation of Daesh’ along the Libyan coastline. He said British troops would help Tunisian forces increase their border security by preventing illegal crossings.

Luke 21:9 and Matthew 24:7 speak of nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom in the end times. Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. Luke 21:9: wars & commotions; the Greek word here is Akatastasia, meaning instability, a state of disorder, disturbance, confusion (revolutions) Matthew 24:7: the Greek word for nation is Ethnos & refers to various ethnic groups fighting among themselves, where the next sentence in the verse refers to kingdoms (basileiva) fighting one another (not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom)
Headline: Al Shabab kill 17 in twin blasts in Somali town
Somalia’s Al Shabab militant group bombed a busy junction and a nearby restaurant on Sunday in the town of Baidoa, killing at least 17 people, a police officer and the group said. Al Shabab often carries out such suicide attacks in the capital and elsewhere in its bid to topple Somalia’s Western-backed government. The group wants to impose its strict version of Islamic rule in the Horn of Africa nation. “The restaurant and the junction were very busy and the death toll may rise,” Police Major Bilow Nurr told Reuters from Baidoa, which lies about 245km northwest of Mogadishu. Police Colonel Abdi Osman said the death toll was 17, mostly civilians, with 25 others injured. A police officer said a suicide car bomb blew up at the junction while a second blast — possibly a bomb that had been planted or a suicide bomber — struck the restaurant. “We targeted government officials and forces,” Al Shabab’s military operation spokesman Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab told Reuters, adding there was a police station nearby.

Economic collapse Revelation 6:5-6 & Daniel 2:41-43– Decline of the Euro “ When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation) “Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.” (Daniel 2:41-43)
Headline:Energy price slump sends eurozone into deflation
Consumer prices in the eurozone fell sharply in February to minus 0.2%, putting more pressure on the European Central Bank. The slide into deflation is a sharp reversal from the revised 0.3% increase recorded in January. It is the first fall in inflation since September when it shrank by 0.1%, according to Eurostat. Energy drove the decline, with prices down 8% in February compared to a 5.4% slide in January. The dismal figures have dashed hopes that ECB efforts to boost prices were working. That raises the chance of the bank announcing further stimulus measures next month. It has already announced a cut to its bank deposit rate, which remains in negative territory. It’s not the first time the eurozone inflation had slid below zero, and once again the price falls are driven by lower energy costs. But the weakness is widespread. The breakdown from the EU’s statistical agency (not a very detailed one) shows every category having lower inflation than in the previous month. The highest, for services, is just 1%, which is well short of the European Central Bank’s target of below but close to 2%. The ECB has already decided to review its policy next week. The deflation news adds to the chances that the review will lead to more action to get inflation back up (yes, up) towards the target. That means some combination of more quantitative easing – buying financial assets with newly created money – or taking some of the ECB’s interest rates even further below zero.
