This is my quick look at the near future!  Below you will see where in the word of the Lord that God and our Lord Jesus Christ has warned us that a third Temple would be built in the last days.
qaqa
I have been warning you that the Jews are going to have full access to the Temple Mount of which at the present time they do not.  In order for the above prophecies to be fulfilled something major has to happen to change the status quo on the Temple Mount.  As Christ promised us in His word that Temple will be rebuilt.  Over the past few years I have been showing you the signs that are leading up to allowing the Jews that full access to the Mount.  Your will see a new news report below entitled: “Jerusalem on the edge in row over contested shrine”. The report is long and I will have the link to that report for you however, I want to show you the most important part of that report which once again shows you the direction the Mount is headed is toward what we see in scripture.

Jerusalem on edge in row over contested shrine

“On Saturday evening, Housing Minister Uri Ariel of the Jewish Home party, a key coalition partner, ignored appeals to tone down the rhetoric. At a rally for Yehuda Glick, the rabbi wounded by the Palestinian gunman last week, Ariel was quoted as saying that “the status quo on the Temple Mount will change.”

America, WAKE UP!!!

My heart is so grieved over the state of our nation and over the condition of those who profess to follow Jesus. I know Paul warned Timothy that the day would come when men would no longer endure sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:1- 3), but it just breaks my heart to see. It breaks my heart to see so many people being deceived and led astray from the truth that is in Jesus. The battle is fierce. People truly have no clue how heavy of a war is being waged against their souls, but continue on with life as if there is nothing to be urgent about. AMERICA, WAKE UP!!! (Ephesians 6:12)

Life for the follower of Jesus is NOT about the American dream; that should have been nailed to the cross. The life you now live must be lived for Jesus and His will, for His agenda and purpose (Galatians 2:20). But if you are still living your best life now, you are headed for hell. Life is not about sports and comfort for the believer, but about sacrifice (Luke 9:23). Jesus bought you with His own blood, and if you are His, you must do His will (Luke 6:46). We are in a world that is perishing and we have been commanded to “GO” to every nation and preach the gospel to “every creature”, and to disciple the world (Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19- 20). We must love our neighbor enough to reach into their lives and show them Jesus. Jesus both loved in actions and by speaking the word.

From the west coast to the east I see people who do not want to hear the gospel; their hearts are hard to God, they do not feel a need for Him. God will give us a need for Him soon. All across the States I see Christians and Church goers who think completely different about what is important; so many find it strange that we would preach the gospel in the open so sinners may hear the words of eternal life. Every sect has their views on the way things should be done, and there is division over who is right, all the while sinners are sinking into hell. Yes, heaven must weep.

It just tears my heart that correction is rejected, discipline is despised, so called Christians do not want to be told what they can and cannot do. “I can live how I want” is the cry of their heart, and so they can, and they will be following the counsel of the devil, who says “Do what thou wilt, shall be the whole of the Law”. People heap up teachers for themselves that tickle their ears, telling them the brand of “Christianity” they want to have, which is no Christianity at all but is idolatry, forming a “Jesus” that they are comfortable with, one who will let them live for the world and think they are still right with God; But the world is passing away and the lust of it, and only those who do the will of the Father will live forever (1 John 2:15– 17).

Oh wake up you sleepers, awake and God will give you life. Listen to His voice, for He is the Resurrection and the Life! Come out of the tomb, take off your grave clothes and embrace the Son of the Living God!

Headline:   Sweden officially recognizes Palestinian state, Israel recalls ambassador

Sweden has recognized the occupied state of Palestine officially, according to its foreign ministry. The Scandinavian has become the first West-European EU state to recognize the territories. Israel has recalled its ambassador in Sweden. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has already welcomed the “historic” move by Sweden. “President Abbas welcomes Sweden’s decision,” Nabil Abu Rudeina, the leader’s spokesman told AFP. The reaction from Israel followed soon after: “The decision of the Swedish government to recognize a Palestinian state is a deplorable decision which only strengthens extremist elements and Palestinian rejectionizm,” the Jewish state’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said. Later in the day, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the country is recalling its ambassador in Sweden for consultations in protest of the move. Lieberman even considers permanently removing the ambassador, Isaac Bachman, from his position, reported Haaretz. This move would officially downgrade Israel’s relations with Sweden.

Headline:     IDF Comes Under Fire Along Syrian Border

IDF forces conducting a routine patrol along the Syrian border on the Golan Heights came under fire from Syria on Thursday afternoon. The force reported that it had been targeted by gunfire, and proceeded to conduct a search for the sources of the attack. No wounds or damage was reported as having been caused by the attack. Syrian rebels, including Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front forces, reportedly took control of the Syrian Golan Heights in early September through fierce fighting with Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces, and in the process seized the weapons and equipment of UN forces in the area. The region has remained tense, with the fighting often spilling over – accidentally or intentionally – in the form of shells frequently streaking into Israeli territory. The gunfire from Syria comes after a different border was recently hit by an attack; just last Wednesday drug smugglers on the Sinai border opened fire with anti-tank missiles on IDF patrols in the Negev, wounding two female soldiers.

Headline:     Jerusalem Church Under Siege From Local Arabs

An eastern Jerusalem church has come under siege from local Arab residents as a property dispute has devolved into repeated bouts of harassment, theft, and physical violence against church employees and property. “When we said we would not sell [the church], they decided to take it by force,” Pastor Karen Dunham of the Living Bread International Church told The Jerusalem Post. Located near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City, Living Bread is a non-denominational church with offices in Israel, Gaza, and Jericho that seeks to reach out with “humanitarian aid to the poor and the refugees with aid and education,” its website says. According to Dunham, the church has been attacked by men with knifes, clubs, pepper spray, and gas by local Arab men. The men have destroyed the church’s security cameras and a metal security fence, in addition to threatening to “cut the heads off” two orphans with disabilities. Dunham has appealed to local police for protection and the arrest of suspects behind the threats and attacks. “The last couple of weeks is when most of the violence has happened, and now they are not allowing our staff to walk in the street to get to and from work,” she said.

Headline:      Islamic Jihad Takes Responsibility for Glick Shooting

Israel decided Wednesday night to prohibit access to the Temple Mount Thursday to both Muslim and Jewish worshipers and visitors until further notice, following the shooting in Jerusalem of Rabbi Yehudah Glick, a right-wing activist with the Temple Mount Faithful. Jerusalem District Police Commander Moshe Edri together with Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch assessed intelligence reports on the ground, according to a police spokesman, and issued a directive barring Muslims and Jews from accessing the holy site. Right-wing activists, including some members of Knesset, had called to march on the Temple Mount en masse Thursday morning in response to the suspected attempted assassination which left Glick in serious, but stable, condition. Glick was shot three times outside the Jerusalem’s Begin Center following a conference about the Jewish presence on the Temple Mount. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has issued a public response to the attempt on Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick’s life Thursday, calling out the international community and the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the process for “hypocrisy” regarding incitement. “A few days ago, I said that we were facing a wave of incitement by radical Islamic elements and by Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas – ed.] who said that Jews must be prevented from going up to the Temple Mount by any means possible,” he continued. “I still have not heard from the international community so much as one word of condemnation for these inflammatory remarks. The international community needs to stop its hypocrisy and take action against inciters, against those who try to change the status quo.” Abbas stated, minutes before Netanyahu spoke, that closing the Temple Mount Thursday following the attack was a “declaration of war.”

Headline:  Fatah calls for ‘day of rage’ on Friday in Jerusalem

Headline:  Hamas, Islamic Jihad call for Palestinians to step up ‘resistance’ against Israel

Headline:  US Urges Israel to Open Temple Mount to Muslims

Fatah, the political party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, called for a “day of rage” Friday in the defense of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, after Israel closed the site Thursday amid continuing East Jerusalem riots and after the attempted assassination of a right-wing activist. The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported the call to action on Thursday. “Fatah calls to its fighters and to the masses of the Palestinian people to aid the Al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied Jerusalem,” Fatah said in an announcement that was translated into English by Israel-based Palestinian Media Watch. Israel has since announced it would reopen the site for Friday prayers. WAFA also reported that the Fatah Mobilization and Organization Commission had “called to set tomorrow as a day of rage throughout the homeland and in countries which are home to refugees, to express the Palestinian people’s opposition to any attack on the holy places and foremost among them the Al-Aqsa Mosque… And to consider desecration of Al-Aqsa as a declaration of a religious war against the Palestinian people and the Arab Islamic nations.”

***Let’s recap. A Palestinian attempts to gun down a Jewish nationalist, thereby committing an act of attempted murder, an act of terrorism, and a hate crime. Israeli authorities track the guy down. He doesn’t go quietly, no. He decides to engage Israeli authorities in a gun fight – and loses. The Israelis react by closing down the property on which the al-Aqsa mosque sits. Then Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas says Israel escalated the situation. HYPOCRISY INDEED

Headline: Jordan Accuses Israel of ‘State Terrorism’ over Temple Mount Ban

Jordan on Thursday accused Israel of “state terrorism” after it closed Jerusalem’s Temple Mount to Muslim and Jewish visitors alike, following the attempted assassination of a prominent Jewish rights activist. Israel said its closure of the site – the holiest in Judaism and also home to the Al Aqsa mosque compound – was temporary and aimed at calming tempers as tensions continue to simmer after the prime suspect in the shooting of Rabbi Yehuda Glick died in a shootout with police. Jordan’s Islamic affairs minister, Hayel Daoud, denounced the Jewish state for “closing the gates of Al-Aqsa mosque and preventing the faithful from entering”, state news agency Petra reported. He urged the international community to help Jordan put pressure on Israel “to raise the terrorist blockade” imposed on the compound. “This is a dangerous escalation by the authorities of the occupation and state terrorism that we can neither accept nor keep silent about,” Daoud said. Despite it being the holiest site in Judaism, Jews are forbidden to pray on the Temple Mount in what activists – including Glick – have roundly condemned as capitulation by the Israeli government to Islamist threats.

Headline:   Lebanese denounce closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Lebanese political parties from across the spectrum have slammed Israel’s decision to close down the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem Thursday in response to the overnight shooting of an ultra-nationalist Jewish activist. The Israeli government, however, announced later Thursday that the mosque had been reopened. Hezbollah saluted the “heroic operation against Zionist extremism,” a statement by the party said, lauding Palestinians who seek to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque and offer “sacrifices for this sacred symbol in the history of Islam and the history of humanity.” Hezbollah denounced “the flagrant assault that led to the death of the freed captive Moataz Hejazi and the arrest of his relatives,” the statement added. It also called on Arabs and Muslims to stand with Palestinians and their “heroic resistance.”

Headline:  Lebanese army detains 50 in north after weekend clashes

Lebanese troops detained 50 people in raids on towns and Syrian refugee camps in the north of the country, the army said on Thursday, part of a security crackdown after battles with Islamist gunmen over the weekend. The army has mounted several raids since Islamist militants clashed with soldiers in and around the northern city of Tripoli from Friday to Sunday, some of the worst fighting to spill over to Lebanon from the Syrian civil war. Soldiers moved on the towns of al-Minya, Mashta Hassan, Mashta Hammoud and refugee camps in the town of Behneen on Wednesday. The 50 detainees were mainly Syrian but included nine Lebanese and one Palestinian, an army statement said. In one of the raids, soldiers seized a number of weapons including rocket-propelled grenade launchers as well as communications equipment, the statement said.

Lebanese security forces have exchanged fire with al-Qaeda-linked militants in the Bekaa Valley near the border with Syria. Local sources said the clashes erupted outside the towns of Deir al-Ghazal and Qusaya on Wednesday when al-Nusra Front militants tried to infiltrate into Lebanon from Syria. The Lebanese army, supported by Syrian soldiers on the other side of the border, halted the terrorists’ advance, with Hezbollah fighters also giving a hand to prevent their infiltration.

Headline:    Egypt has right to build Sinai buffer zone: US

With dynamite and bulldozers, Egypt’s army demolished dozens of homes along its border with the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, after the military ordered residents out to make way for a planned buffer zone meant to stop militants and smugglers. The plan to clear 10,000 residents from some 800 houses over just several days has angered the area’s already disgruntled population, which has long held grievances with Cairo. “To throw 10,000 people into the street in a second, this is the biggest threat to national security,” said Ayman Mohsen, whose sister left her house located 350 meters from the border. Speaking to The Associated Press via online messages, he said the army told residents to leave on Tuesday within 48 hours, and that houses would be blown up even if people remain inside. The move to set up the planned 13-kilometer (8-mile) buffer zone, which will be 500 meters (yards) wide, comes after militants attacked an army checkpoint near Sheikh Zuweyid town last week, killing 31 soldiers. No group claimed responsibility. After the attack, Egypt declared a three-month state of emergency and dawn-to-dusk curfew there and indefinitely closed the Gaza crossing, the only non-Israeli passage for the crowded strip with the world. In an attempt to assuage residents’ frustration, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi ordered local authorities to quickly give compensation to residents who left their homes. “Egypt will never forget its honorable people of Sinai, their well-documented patriotic stances and their sacrifices to the nation,” he said through spokesman Alaa Youssef.

Syria Headline: ISIS gain control in Shaer gas field

At least 37 people, including children, were injured in a car bomb attack on a government-controlled neighborhood in the central Syrian city of Homs on Wednesday, state television reported. “Terrorists detonated a car bomb in the center of Al-Zahraa neighborhood, causing deaths and injuries,” it said. It later said at least 37 people had been hurt, including children who were “in serious condition,” adding that the blast had caused major damage. The bombing is the latest in a series of attacks targeting government-controlled areas of Homs city.
Meanwhile, Islamic State group men attacked an oil and gas field in Syria, killing at least 30 pro-regime gunmen and security guards, a monitoring group said Wednesday. “IS managed to control parts of the field,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said after Tuesday’s assault at Shaer, in Homs province. An unknown number of militants were also killed, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Syria Headline: The violent clashes are still erupting in differnet areas in Aleppo

Syria Headline: Is Syrian army heading for victory in Aleppo?

Sending additional Syrian rebel forces to Kobani is a mistake, a senior rebel commander said Thursday, warning that the fighters are needed to stave off President Bashar Assad’s forces who are poised to encircle Aleppo, a key city. Nizar al-Khateeb, a commander of the Dawn of Freedom brigade, fought in Kobani until last week and is set to return to the northern Syrian town this weekend. “It was wrong to send more fighters to Kobane, because we need more forces in Aleppo where the situation is very critical,” al-Khateeb, who is allied to the Free Syrian Army movement, told a press conference in Istanbul. “The regime is trying to close the circle around Aleppo. We need all the fighters we can get there,” he added.

Syria Headline: Syrian air strikes kill over 200 civilians in 10 days – monitor

Bombing runs by the Syrian air force over the past 10 days have killed at least 221 civilians, a third of them children, a group monitoring Syria’s civil war said on Thursday. The intensifying offensive by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces has heightened concerns among his opponents that he may be taking advantage of U.S.-led air raids on Islamic State insurgents to regain territory elsewhere in the country. Since Oct. 20 the Syrian military has staged at least 769 attacks including barrel bombings in many areas of Syria, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, and more than 500 people have been wounded. It said the strikes targeted the eastern province of Deir al-Zor, Homs in central Syria as well as contested provinces in the more populated west such as Latakia, Quneitra, Hama, Aleppo, Idlib and Deraa, as well as the fringes of Damascus. “The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights renews its condemnation at the continued silence of the international community regarding the massacres committed daily by the regime of Bashar al-Assad against the sons of the Syrian people.”

Iraq Headline:  IS fighters execute up to 220 Iraqis in retaliation for opposition

Islamic State group militants lined up 30 men in western Iraq and shot them dead Wednesday, an official and residents said, the latest mass killing carried out by the group since its advance across the country. The slayings, on a main street in the Al-Bakir district in the town of Hit, targeted Sunnis tribal fighters allied with the government and members of the security forces that the extremists captured when they overran the town, the official and the residents said. The militants first paraded the men through town, shouting through loudspeakers that the captured men were apostates who fought against them, residents said. The extremists then lined up the men and shot them dead with assault rifles, residents said. Meanwhile, Two mass graves were discovered today containing some of the 300 members of the Sunni Muslim Albu Nimr tribe that Islamic State had seized this week. The captives, men aged between 18 and 55, had been shot at close range, said witnesses.

Iraq Headline:  Iraqi Security Forces Withdraw to Defensive Positions in Anbar Province

Iraqi Army units in Anbar province have adopted a largely defensive posture in October 2014, retreating to their bases and leaving the defense of most urban areas in the hands of local Iraqi Police and Sunni tribal forces. The recent success of ISIS offensives in western Anbar will place the ISF in an inferior position for launching future counter-offensives. Many of the ISF units in Anbar are now understrength, suffer poor morale, and lack decisive leadership – leaving them vulnerable to ISIS attempts to isolate, encircle, and destroy the remaining Iraqi Army presence in the province. If the Iraqi Army cannot reinforce its positions and regain the offensive, the ISF may find itself hard-pressed to curb ISIS momentum in Anbar province and the western Baghdad Belts.

Kurdish Headline: Syria condemns Turkey for allowing foreign fighters to enter

The first group of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government forces, known as Peshmerga, has reportedly entered Syria’s northern city of Kobani to join the fight against the ISIL militants. According to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ten Peshmerga fighters entered the besieged town on Thursday through the border crossing with Turkey to help the Kurds there fight against the ISIL. “Minutes ago, about 10 members of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces entered the town of Ayn al-Arab (the Arabic name for Kobani), through the border crossing between the town and Turkish territory,” the UK-based group said. This was the first from among a group of 150 Kurdish fighters who are to be deployed to the embattled city. Reports say the rest will only gradually join their comrades because the border crossing has been targeted by the Takfiri group.

Kurdish Headline: Shia militiamen arrest Peshmerga near Kirkuk

A Shia militia fired on Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces and arrested a number of soldiers, local officials said on Thursday. The confrontation occurred near Tuz Khurmatu, southeast of Kirkuk, at a checkpoint separating Peshmerga-held areas from territory held by a local affiliate of the Badr Organization, whose militant wing is one of the most powerful Shia militias in Iraq. The reported incident was described as having taken place in recent days. Kirkuk, which Peshmerga forces secured after the Iraqi army fled an Islamic State offensive in August, is regarded by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Erbil as Kurdish territory. But this is disputed by Baghdad and by leaders of the Shia and Sunni communities. Two Peshmerga were injured in the attack, which the officials claim was instigated by the Shia militia. “I barely survived the attack, and then they wanted to arrest me even though I was injured,” Shakhawan Kareem told Rudaw. The group arrested ten Peshmerga in the wake of the stand-off, but later released seven. Local officials said the Shia threatened they would send the three remaining Peshmerga to Baghdad for trail, although the Kurdish officers present said that had not happened yet. “This problem was caused by a misunderstanding,” Shalal Abdul, the mayor of Tuz Khurmatu told Rudaw. He has convened an emergency committee to try to resolve the issue. The Badr Brigades and Peshmerga forces have cooperated on a number of offensives—most successfully the battle of Amerli at the end of August—but they have also clashed on several occasions, especially in the area south of disputed Kirkuk. A local, wishing to remain anonymous for fear of his safety, indicated that many of the area’s Sunni residents fled the area after repeated harassment from the Shia militia.

Headline: GOP lawmakers urge administration to suspend Gitmo transfers over ISIS concerns

Republican lawmakers called Thursday for the Obama administration to suspend detainee transfers from Guantanamo Bay following a Fox News report that as many as 20 to 30 former prisoners are suspected by intelligence and Defense officials of having joined forces with the Islamic State and other militant groups inside Syria. Some of those former Guantanamo detainees were released within the last three years. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., said in a statement the development “underscores the risks we face when Guantanamo detainees are released based on a misguided desire to close Guantanamo — rather than the national security interests of the United States.” She urged President Obama to suspend further transfers “at least until a thorough review can be conducted to better understand how many former Guantanamo detainees have joined ISIS and what we can do to prevent such an outcome in the future.”

Headline: German jets scrambled to face Russian planes

NATO said Wednesday that it had intercepted a large number of Russian aircraft flying close to European airspace in the past two days, in an “unusual” series of incidents that brought Russian bombers as far afield as Portugal. The aircraft — at least 19 in all — offered reminders of Russian air power at a time of the worst relations between the West and Russia since the Cold War. Russian military aircraft have significantly increased their activity in Europe since the conflict in Ukraine began earlier this year, with NATO scrambling to intercept aircraft more than 100 times in 2014. But a NATO official said the scale of the latest incidents was the most provocative this year. Over the Atlantic Ocean and the North, Black and Baltic seas, Russian bombers, fighter jets and tanker aircraft were detected flying in international airspace, NATO said. There were no incursions into national airspace, a violation of sovereignty that would have significantly amplified the seriousness of the four incidents, three of which took place on Wednesday. “We’re raising it as an unusual level of activity,” said Lt. Col. Jay Janzen, a spokesman for NATO’s military command in Mons, Belgium. “The flights we’ve seen in the last 24 hours, the size of those flights and some of the flight plans are definitely unusual.”

Headline:  Seven Ukrainian soldiers killed in country’s restive east

The Ukrainian army says fighting between Kiev troops and pro-Russia forces in the restive east regions of the country has left at least seven soldiers dead in the past 24 hours. “Over the last 24 hours, we have lost seven servicemen, 11 were injured,” the Ukrainian military spokesman, Andriy Lysenko, said on Thursday. The incident came following a relative calm during the weekend, when Ukraine held snap parliamentary elections. The Ukrainian government has accused pro-Russians of attacking Ukraine’s positions over the past three days. The latest fatalities raise Kiev’s military losses to 160 since the September 5 inking of a ceasefire deal with the pro-Russia activists.

Headline:  Iran wants sanctions lifted as part of nuclear deal: official

Iran wants all Western sanctions to be lifted as part of a deal on its contested nuclear programme by a November deadline, a top official said Wednesday. The announcement came amid intensifying efforts to conclude a definitive pact. The six powers in the talks with Iran — Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States plus Germany, known as the P5+1 — have set November 24 as the deadline. The chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the US proposal of a gradual lifting of sanctions was “unacceptable.” “If we want a definitive accord on November 24, there must be an immediate lifting of sanctions,” he told a news conference in Paris.

A fresh spate of clashes in the northeastern Libyan city of Benghazi has claimed the lives of at least 10 people. According to the Libyan medical sources, at least 10 people lost their lives after rockets hit several residential areas in the violence-ravaged city of Benghazi on Wednesday. The recent clashes have flared up between the Libyan army backed by forces loyal to former General Khalifa Haftar and militias who are currently in control of Benghazi. The clashes have left at least 200 people dead over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, the country’s internationally recognized Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani called on militia groups to take part in reconciliation talks. “We open the doors of dialogue with our brothers on the condition that there be concessions from all sides,” the Libyan premier told reporters on Wednesday. Today’s clashes came shortly after the United Nations special envoy to Libya, Bernardino Leon, expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation in Benghazi.

Headline:    Morocco to provide military assistance to UAE in fight against terrorism

Morocco is set to provide the United Arab Emirates with military assistance in the fight against terror and as part of broader regional security and military cooperation with the Gulf, a high-level Moroccan official told Asharq Al-Awsat on Wednesday. “The Moroccan initiative is part of a comprehensive proactive strategy against the recurrent global threats that are [also] threatening Morocco,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The news of Moroccan support for the small Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country was subsequently confirmed by a report issued by the UAE’s state news agency WAM. “In line with the directives of King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom of Morocco will provide active support to the UAE in its fight against terrorism and its efforts to maintain regional and international peace and stability,” WAM reported, in news attributed to a Moroccan Foreign Ministry announcement. The Moroccan initiative “supports and complements the other measures taken on Moroccan territory to preserve the security and tranquility of Moroccan citizens in the face of the threat of international terrorism,” the statement added. The high-level Moroccan official, speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity, said that Rabat is seeking greater and security and military cooperation with the UAE to complement a new anti-terror plan launched in the North African kingdom this week.

Headline:  Killing of fourth Turkish soldier in a week threatens fragile peace with Kurds

Unidentified gunmen have murdered a Turkish soldier in the southeast of the country, the military said on Thursday, in the fourth such killing in less than a week, dealing a further blow to an already shaky peace process between Kurdish militants and the Turkish state. Two masked men shot the officer at close range in the back of the head while he was out shopping with his family on Wednesday afternoon in Diyarbakir, the largest city in Turkey’s predominantly Kurdish southeast, the military said in a statement. The incident comes only days after three Turkish soldiers were gunned down on Saturday in Hakkari province further east, also while out shopping, which the military has since blamed on militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Those killings were reportedly in retaliation for the killing of three PKK insurgents a day earlier in eastern Kars province after the militants had launched a raid on a power plant. The military condemned Wednesday’s “brutal” attack but said it had not yet identified the assailants. The recent spate of violence has threatened to derail fragile peace negotiations launched by Ankara two years ago with the PKK’s jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan. Apart from isolated incidents, the country had enjoyed a relative calm since the start of talks, and after Ocalan called a ceasefire to mark the Kurdish New Year in March 2013.

Headline: Boko Haram seizes Mubi town in Adamawa

Takfiri Boko Haram militants have reportedly captured the second largest city in Nigeria’s northeast Adamawa State, amid fierce clashes between Nigerian troops and the militants. Mubi, which is one of the commercial hubs of the state, fell into the hands of the Boko Haram group on Wednesday, when several people were killed and many others forced to flee their homes. Residents, who fled to neighboring areas, said that militants first overran the northeastern town of Uba in Borno state before moving to try to seize Mubi, using firepower including rocket-propelled grenades. “They (the militants) killed several people, especially around the market, where traders had gone for commercial activities,” said the Kukawa local government chairman Modu Musa. “There is virtually not a single resident left in Mubi. Everybody has left to save their lives,” said local resident Habu Saidu. Boko Haram Takfiri militants also burnt down Mubi police station as well as other command centers and freed prisoners after attacking a prison yard in the town.

Headline:  Burkina Faso President Declares Emergency After Unrest

Tens of thousands of protesters demanding the ousting of Burkina Faso’s veteran President Blaise Compaore faced off with security forces outside the presidential palace after burning parliament and ransacking state television on Thursday. At least three protesters were shot dead and scores were wounded by security forces, emergency services said, as the vast crowd tried to storm the home of the president’s brother and overran other state buildings. It was not immediately possible to confirm the whereabouts of President Compaore, who seized power in the gold and cotton-producing West African nation in a coup 27 years ago. But there were signs of political maneuvering. The military command announced it would issue a statement later in the day and opposition leaders said they had held talks with retired General Kouame Lougue, a former defense minister, about forming a transitional government. A Reuters witness saw General Lougue march afterwards to the presidential palace with supporters, and soldiers at the scene said he was allowed inside with a handful of aides. Crowds stormed parliament earlier in the day in protest against a vote due on Thursday on a government plan to change the constitution to allow the president to stand for a third term next year. As protests spread, communications minister Alain Edouard Traore said the government had dropped the plan. But opposition leaders and demonstrators said they would not stop until the president left.

With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.” Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. If you wanted to create a religion that almost everyone would love, how would you do it?  Perhaps you would change your faith to make it more appealing to a modern world that is changing at blinding speed.  Perhaps you would indicate that you are willing to become more “mainstream” on hot button issues such as gay rights.  Perhaps you would invite leaders of other religions from all over the planet to come visit you and make it clear that you consider all of those religions to be valid as well. And all of that “unscientific stuff” about God creating the world in six days and creating mankind out of the dust of the Earth?  Well, all of that is just going to have to be thrown out.  If all of this sounds vaguely familiar to you, that is because this is exactly what Pope Francis has been doing.

Headline: Saudi Arabia finds six new MERS cases as outbreak grows

Saudi Arabia said late on Wednesday it had detected six new cases of the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in 24 hours, the biggest daily jump for months with officials blaming lax hospital procedures. The recent surge in cases, now numbering 32 since the start of October, has been focused in Riyadh and the western city of Taif, but it remains far less extensive than an outbreak in April and May that infected hundreds. MERS causes coughing, fever and sometimes pneumonia, killing around 40 percent of its victims. The vast majority of confirmed cases worldwide have been found in Saudi Arabia, where 786 people have been infected, of whom 334 have died. Two of the new cases announced by the health ministry were in medical personnel, adding to concerns about the standard of infection control procedures in medical facilities. Three different Taif hospitals have been affected. Some of the people infected with MERS in Taif this month were being treated in one renal clinic in a hospital in the city, which authorities regard as being responsible for some of the transmissions, a senior Health Ministry official said.

Headline:  Israel To Help California Combat Worst Drought In History Following Losses Of $2.2 Billion

The Israelis know a thing or two when it comes to managing dry arid lands, and making them flourish, even when the rains don’t fall “in their time.” So when it came to getting some help for the poor farmers of California, who have suffered massive financial losses as a result of the dry weather, California Governor Jerry Brown contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the two men signed a strategic cooperation agreement earlier this year as part of which Israel, a world leader in the field of water, would help out the arid state. The droughts have already purportedly cost the state’s economy a whopping $2.2 billion and has left more than 500,000 acres of fields fallow in its wake. Being that California is the source for more than 50 percent of US fruit, vegetables and nuts, and almost 90 percent of America’s strawberries, olives, broccoli, nectarines and garlic, it’s vital that the state finds ways to cope with the rainless situation they are faced with. As part of the Israeli efforts to come to its closest allies’ aid, Prof. Eilon Adar, a world expert in groundwater flow systems, will work to help the state work out solutions to the issue. During a recent visit to San Fransisco and the Silicon Valley, Professor Adar toured numerous salination plants in northern California, and participated in a state-wide conference in which a wide range of technological solutions were presented. Adar said, “If we managed to overcome the water issues in the Middle East, we can do it anywhere in the world. Nonetheless, (to address the issue) they will need to improve the management and efficiency of the water market and increase and optimize the coordination between the water companies.” At the same time, the Israeli consul to California, Andy David, said to reporters, “We are pushing ahead with the water issue and branding Israel as part of the solution, an ally with the knowhow whom can come to help in a time of need.”

Israeli Islamist Leader Kamal Khatib: Jerusalem Will Be Caliphate Capital; PA TV Cuts Interview Off

6a00d83534afe169e2019aff6edb33970d-800wi

Headline:   Jerusalem is Simmering: 1,000 Additional Forces Sent to Capital

As a result of the recent escalation of terror and violence in Jerusalem, law enforcement agencies are working Sunday to bring more security forces to the capital. An additional 1,000 Israeli Police and Border Patrol forces will be on hand to oversee security in eastern Jerusalem. Security forces are expected to work together with the Tax Authority, the Bailiff’s Office and Jerusalem’s Municipality with the intention of dealing with rioters and carrying out enforcement actions in eastern Jerusalem. Police plan to operate in three main sectors of the city – their additional presence lasting at least a month. Escalated tensions in the capital were felt all of last week, particularly after Wednesday’s terrorist attack, which killed 3-month-old, Chaya Zisel Braun and injured eight others – some critically. The tensions continued last night, when Palestinian youths clashed with security forces in several neighborhoods of eastern Jerusalem. A group of masked men blocked traffic, set fire to trash bins, and threw stones and Molotov cocktails near the Beit Orot neighborhood of At-Tur. One person was lightly injured after being hit and required medical treatment. Israel police and Border Patrol forces arrived at the scene and took riot dispersal measures against the crowd. In addition, another rock-throwing attack erupted on Saturday evening near the Light Rail stop in Shuafat. The rioters damaged the window of one car, but caused no injuries. Police are still searching for suspects in the attack.

Headline:      Israeli intel: Palestinian Authority funding daily attacks in, around Jerusalem

Israel’s intelligence community has determined that the Palestinian Authority was supporting attacks around Jerusalem. Israeli sources said the intelligence community has identified the PA as a leading supporter of Palestinian attacks around Jerusalem. They said the PA was providing money, legal aid and media encouragement for operations that target Jews throughout the city. “The PA has made attacking Jews an honorable pursuit and was helping the terrorists as well as their families,” a source said. The sources said the intelligence community determined that the PA was operating a fund to encourage unrest in Jerusalem. They said the fund, believed to stem from Arab and Muslim states, also focused on riots on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. Since June 2014, Palestinians have been attacking Israeli civilians and police on a nearly daily basis. Operations ranged from stone-throwing to shootings on highways and Jewish neighborhoods. “Islamic extremist elements are trying to set alight the capital of Israel, and we will use all necessary force, with determination and responsibility, so that they are unsuccessful,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Oct. 26.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized planning to advance 1,060 new housing units in neighborhoods in Jerusalem beyond the 1967 lines, officials in the Prime Minister’s Office said Monday. According to the officials, 660 of these units will be constructed in the northern neighborhood of Ramot Shlomo, and another 400 in Har Homa. Netanyahu has also given the green light to move forward infrastructure projects in the West Bank, including – the officials said – roads that will serve the Palestinians as well. The official declined to comment whether there was concern these moves would significantly harm Israel’s position in Europe and the US, which sharply condemned an announcement earlier this month of moving forward development in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Givat Hamatos.

Headline: Jordan slams Israel illegal settlement expansion

Jordan’s ambassador to Israel has slammed Tel Aviv over its illegal settlement expansion on Palestinian territories, warning that the move threatens Amman’s peace treaty with the Israeli regime. The Jordanian envoy, Walid Obeidat, said Sunday that the peace treaty between the two sides would be threatened if Tel Aviv continued to build settlements on occupied Palestinian lands. “All such acts are incompatible with international law and international humanitarian law and if allowed to continue will ultimately imperil the treaty,” said Obeidat. In addition, the Jordanian ambassador said Amman opposed an attempt by far-right Israelis to change the status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying Jordan is against any alterations to the mosque, which is Islam’s third holiest site.

Headline:    Nusra threatens to kill Lebanon prisoners over Tripoli unrest

Fighting between the Lebanese army and Sunni Islamist militants in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli died down on Monday, after three days of clashes killed nearly 20 people, including eight civilians, according to media reports. The army reportedly recaptured parts of the predominantly Sunni city it had lost to militants last week. “The operation is over and the army is entering areas where the gunmen were entrenched in order to clear them,” Samir Jisr, a Sunni politician from Tripoli, told Reuters. The latest clashes in Lebanon reportedly erupted on Friday, following which 19 people, including eight civilians were killed. Thousands of civilians also fled the fighting late on Sunday, according to media reports. On Sunday, militants retreated to the Sunni dominated Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood in Tripoli. This area was recaptured by the Lebanese military on Monday, according to media reports.  A security source said the army had yet to take one final position being held by the gunmen. The area taken by the army yesterday included a mosque being used as a base by the gunmen in Tripoli’s Bab Al-Tabbaneh area. Fighting has also taken place in other parts of the north, near the towns of Al-Minya and Bahneen, where at least two soldiers were killed in an ambush. The army used helicopter gunships to fire at militant positions for the first time in recent years.

Headline:  After Sinai attack, Egyptian president orders army to back police in guarding key facilities

The Egyptian president has ordered that the military will join police forces in guarding vital state facilities against terror attacks. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi issued the order in a decree Monday. It follows a surge in attacks by Islamic militants against troops and police. Thirty Egyptian soldiers were killed on Friday by suspected militants in the troubled northern part of the Sinai Peninsula. It was deadliest attack against the army in decades. The decree stipulated that army troops will join police in guarding state facilities for two years during which they will be treated as military installations. Perpetrators of any attacks against the facilities will be tried before military tribunals.

Egypt announced on Sunday it was postponing talks in Cairo on cementing the Gaza war ceasefire after closing its border with the Palestinian enclave in response to deadly attacks in the Sinai Peninsula. Two attacks on Friday in Sinai, which borders the Gaza Strip and Israel, killed at least 33 Egyptian security personnel in some of the worst anti-state violence since former army chief Abdel Fattah Al Sisi ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year. Citing “the state of emergency in the border area between Egypt and Gaza” and the closure on Friday of the Rafah crossing, a senior Egyptian diplomat said indirect talks between Israel and Palestinian factions would not resume in the coming week. No new date for the negotiations was announced.

Headline:    Is ISIS Expanding into Egypt?

Recent statements by the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, and an alleged new group called the “Soldiers of the Caliphate in the Land of Egypt” has given rise to speculation that ISIS may be seeking to expand beyond Iraq and Syria into new territories such as Egypt. This fear is compounded by the recent arrest of an individual at the Cairo airport, allegedly seeking to travel to Syria for training with ISIS. He is also accused of recruiting Egyptians to train in Syria for the purpose of returning to Egypt to carry out attacks against security forces. It is possible that Egyptian authorities are falsely associating individuals or groups with ISIS in an attempt to legitimize harsh security measures. At this time it does not appear that ISIS is operating in Egypt or actively seeking to gain an operational footprint there, although recent events suggest viable routes for expansion by the Islamic State should it choose to pursue them. A new group calling itself Soldiers of the Caliphate in the Land of Egypt released its first statement on jihadist forums September 23, 2014. In the statement the group pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed caliph of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and stated that their aim is to target the Egyptian army, foreign embassies, and foreign nationals, especially Americans. Whether the threats made in the statement by the Soldiers of the Caliphate in the Land of Egypt are acted upon or not, it is worth noting that ISIS is continuing to gain support from like-minded individuals and groups from across the Middle East and beyond. The highly publicized gains ISIS has amassed coupled with their massive media campaign will push more jihadist groups and individuals to express affinity for ISIS or to adopt ISIS tactics in pursuing their own goals. We may see a type of brand franchising involving the creation of affiliates or associates under the Caliphate similar to those aligned with al-Qaeda, whether as an effort to join in the Caliphate or in an effort to utilize the ISIS “brand” to garner publicity. The Soldiers of the Caliphate in the Land of Algeria or in Egypt may be among the first such groups.

Islamist militants linked to al Qaeda entered Idlib in northern Syria on Monday and opened up a new front in a city that has been controlled by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces for more than a year, both sides said. State television said the Nusra Front militants infiltrated Idlib at dawn and were confronted by troops and pro-government militias. The Nusra Front said its fighters killed dozens, including officers, in the attack and seized buildings. Referring to Monday’s fighting, the Nusra Front said on its social media account that its forces cut the supply route to Idlib city as well as seizing the governorate building. They also seized two tanks and captured 12 soldiers. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors violence in Syria, said the insurgents were pushed out of the governorate building and a captured police station later on Monday.

Syria Headline:  British Captive John Cantlie Reports from Kobani in IS Video

Syria Headline:  More than 800 people killed since the beginning of clashes in Kobani

The Islamic State (IS) released a video featuring British captive John Cantlie reporting from Kobani about the group’s control over the city despite Western media broadcasting the contrary. The 5 minute, 32 second video, entitled, “Inside ‘Ayn al-Islam,” was produced by the IS’ al-I’tisaam Media Foundation, and was distributed on Twitter on October 27, 2014. Cantlie, dressed in a black outfit, stands atop a building in Kobani and speaks on what he sees below him and in the distance, and claims that the IS has essentially secured victory in the city. He stated: “Kobani is now being reinforced by Iraqi Kurds who are coming in through Turkey, while the mujahideen are being resupplied by the hopeless United States Air Forces, who parachuted two crates of weapons and ammunition straight into the outstretched arms of the mujahideen. Now the battle for Kobani is coming to an end. The mujahideen are just mopping up now, street to street, and building to building. You can occasionally hear erratic gunfire in the background as a result of those operations. But contrary to what the Western media would have you believe, it is not an all-out battle here now. It is nearly over. As you can hear, it is very quiet, just the occasional gunfire. “Two-hundred thousand inhabitants of the city have been displaced because of the fighting that came here. You can see the refugee camps over my right shoulder over there in Turkey, where the inhabitants now are. But contrary to media reports, the fighting in Kobani is nearly over

Iraq Headline:  Car bombings in Iraq kill at least 34

Two car bombings in Iraq, including one where a suicide attacker drove a Humvee into a checkpoint manned by Iraqi troops and pro-government Shiite militiamen, killed at least 34 people Monday, authorities said. The deadliest attack struck the outskirts of the Sunni town of Jurf al-Skhar, where the suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden Humvee into the checkpoint, killing at least 24 people and wounding 25, a police officer said. Most of those killed were members of the Shiite militia, he added. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Jurf al-Sakhar is 30 miles south of Baghdad, but the bombing bore all the hallmarks of an attack by the Islamic State group. Islamic State group militants lost control of the town Sunday, when Iraqi soldiers and the Shiite militia retook it from the Sunni extremist group. Monday night, a car bomb blast near a line of shops and restaurants in downtown Baghdad killed 10 people and wounded 18, police said.

Iraq Headline: Iraq PM seeks more Jordan help to battle ISIS

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi called for greater cooperation with Jordan in the battle against the Islamic State jihadist group, as he held talks Sunday in Amman, state media reported. Jordan, which borders Iraq’s Anbar province, much of which has been overrun by ISIS, is one of several countries taking part in U.S.-led air strikes against the extremist group that began in Iraq but has since been expanded to Syria. Abadi met separately with King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Abdullah Nsur. He briefed Nsur on what he called “security and terrorist challenges facing Iraq, particularly ones from Daesh which is destroying Iraqi civilisation,” Jordan’s state news agency Petra said. King Abdullah also pledged Jordan’s “full support” for Baghdad and the U.S.-led coalition “in confronting terrorist organizations”, the palace said.

Iran and Russia were said to have been operating a war room in Iraq to block Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. The Lebanese daily Al Mustaqbal reported that Iran and Russia were operating a joint operations center in Iraq. The daily, quoting Iraqi sources, said the joint facility focused on stopping the advance of ISIL toward Baghdad. “Russian experts with Iranian experts and military commanders in Iraq assigned to confront ISIL contributed to the formation of a joint operations room,” Al Mustaqbal said. In a report on Oct. 23, the newspaper said Russia deployed scores of military advisers for the operations center with Iran. Al Mustaqbal said the Iranians and Russians were advising the Iraqi Defense Ministry as well as training soldiers and Iraqi pilots on flying Russian aircraft. There was no confirmation of the report. But Russia has announced exports of attack helicopters to Baghdad as well as training and maintenance personnel. The United States was said to have a large foreign presence in Iraq. But Kurdish sources said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was overseeing a force of some 5,000 in northern Iraq. “There are a number of Russian and Iranian experts that were overseeing the latest developments in Iraq as well as the battles with ISIL,” an Iraqi source was quoted as saying.

Police in Germany used water cannons and pepper spray against protesters after a demonstration organized by far-right groups in the western city of Cologne turned violent Sunday. A spokesman for the city’s police said officers in riot gear were deployed to calm the situation after protesters threw bottles, stones and fireworks at them. A police vehicle was also overturned by protesters. Thirteen officers and one protester were injured in the clashes, said police spokesman Andre Fassbender. Headline:    Turkey tear-gasses citizens ‘for their safety’

Turkish tear-gassed journalists and observers after an attempt to remove them from two hills overlooking the Syrian border town of Kobane, according to a Rudaw team at the scene.  Military vehicles swept into the area on Sunday, ordering all present on two hills, approximately 1.5 kilometers northwest of the city, to a third hill a kilometer further north with a limited view of the city.  The military cited concerns for the viewers’ safety, without further elaboration.  While most international media decamped to the new area, a number of individuals on the second hill refused to leave despite Turkish orders, prompting the military to fire tear gas at them.  Journalists and observers, many of whom have relatives still on the Syrian side of the border, have positioned themselves on the hills overlooking Kobane since the Islamic State began their offensive against the city in mid-September.  The Rudaw team on the Turkish border reported three rounds of coalition airstrikes in the city beginning Saturday between 10pm and 2 am. There was also fighting east and south of the city, giving way to relative calm on Sunday morning.  Fighting erupted again on Sunday between ISIS and the People’s Protection Units (YPG), the Syrian Kurdish force defending the city, when coalition airplanes bombed an ISIS target at approximately 12:30pm.  Two large pillars of smoke rose above the city on Sunday afternoon. One was the result of the airstrike in the ISIS-controlled eastern part of the city. The much larger plume rose from western neighborhoods held by the YPG following a militant attack.

Yemeni security officials say at least 250 people have been killed in three days of fighting between Shiite Houhti rebels and an influential tribe in the town of Radda in central Bayda province. Fighters from the strong Qifa tribe, after three days of fierce fighting, forced the Houthis Monday out of the Manasih area in Radda, the officials said. The security officials spoke on condition of anonymity according to rules. A peace agreement signed between the Houthis and the government has so far failed to end the fighting.

The number of cases in the Ebola outbreak has exceeded 10,000, with 4,922 deaths, the World Health Organization says in its latest report. Only 27 of the cases have occurred outside the three worst-hit countries, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. Those three countries account for all but 10 of the fatalities. Mali became the latest nation to record a death, a two-year-old girl. More than 40 people known to have come into contact with her have been quarantined. The latest WHO situation report says that Liberia remains the worst affected country, with 2,705 deaths. Sierra Leone has had 1,281 fatalities and there have been 926 in Guinea. Nigeria has recorded eight deaths and there has been one in Mali and one in the United States. The WHO said the number of cases was now 10,141 but that the figure could be much higher, as many families were keeping relatives at home rather than taking them to treatment centres. It said many of the centres were overcrowded. And the latest report also shows no change in the number of cases and deaths in Liberia from the WHO’s previous report, three days ago. Eight countries have registered cases in the outbreak. In West Africa, Senegal and Nigeria have now been declared virus-free by the WHO.

Headline:  Holder: US acknowledges gay marriage in six more states, total now 33 including DC

Attorney General Eric Holder said Saturday the U.S. government is recognizing same-sex marriages in six additional states, which will make those spouses eligible for federal benefits. The announcement follows gay marriages recently becoming legal in those states: Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming. It also follows the Supreme Court saying earlier this month that it will not hear appeals from five states trying to keep in place their marriage bans. Last week, Holder made the same announcement for Colorado, Indiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin, which means the federal government now recognizes gay marriage in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Couples married in these states will qualify for a range of federal benefits, including Social Security and veterans’ benefits. “With each new state where same-sex marriages are legally recognized, our nation moves closer to achieving full equality for all Americans,” Holder said.

Authorities in India have alerted fishermen going out into the sea as a powerful cyclone is heading for the western coast. Cyclone Nilofar, categorised as “severe” by weather forecasters, is expected to hit the western state of Gujarat during the “next 24 hours”. The Meteorological Department has predicted the storm will bring winds of up to 145km/h (90 mph). A super-cyclone in 1999 killed more than 10,000 people in Orissa. Earlier this month, Cyclone Hudhud pounded India’s eastern coast, killing more than 40 people, causing extensive damage and prompting the evacuation of some 350,000 people. The Meteorological Department said on Monday that Cyclone Nilofar would “intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours”.

Headline:     Minister Perry Warns: Jerusalem Situation a ‘Ticking Time Bomb’

Jerusalem will step up its security level following threats made during a second violent day in the city. In an attempt to prevent rioting, Jerusalem police announced there will be restrictions on who can enter the Temple Mount for Friday prayers, Israel Radio reported. Though Muslim women of all ages will be able to enter the Temple Mount, only men above aged 40 and up will be allowed to enter the area. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an additional Border Police company to the capital. The prime minister added that Israel will step up its intelligence and law enforcement efforts throughout the city. “This, and additional measures,” which he said he did not want to elaborate on, will restore quiet to the capital, he said. The decisions comes less than two days after a Hamas terrorist killed a three-month-old baby and injured several others in a violent car rampage. In the latest incident of violence, Israel Radio reported that Arab rioters threw firecrackers, Molotov cocktails and rocks at Jewish homes in the Old City. The rioters were eventually dispersed by Israel Police and border police. No damage or injuries were reported. On Thursday, masked Arab assailants hurled stones at a kindergarten in the Ma’aleh Zeitim neighborhood, not far from the Palestinian quarter of Ras al-Amud in the eastern part of the capital. Earlier on Thursday, unidentified assailants threw stones at the Jerusalem light rail station in Shuafat, just hours after the deadly vehicular terror attack which killed a Jewish infant girl. Jerusalem police vow to step up arrests of rioters in wake of the attack. There were also reports of Palestinian stone-throwing toward police and Border Police units operating in the Issawiya section of east Jerusalem. Police used crowd-dispersal methods to quell the unrest.

Headline:     Palestinian teen killed by IDF gunfire during West Bank protest

A 14-year-old Palestinian boy was killed by IDF troops in the West Bank town of Silwad on Friday afternoon, during clashes that erupted during the weekly protest held there. According to the military, the boy was about to throw a firebomb towards Route 60; an IDF unit positioned nearby opened fire after he had lit the firebomb’s fuse, and was preparing to hurl it. Palestinian medical sources say the boy, Aruah Abdelwahab, was hit by a live bullet in the head, and was evacuated to the government hospital in Ramallah, where he was pronounced dead. Palestinian media say the boy was shot by an IDF sniper located at a great distance from the youth involved in the clashes. According to initial reports, five other Palestinian youths were wounded in the clashes. Rallys are held in the town of Silwad every Friday, after the end of Muslim prayers, and clashes between the town’s residents and IDF troops are a weekly occurrence.

Clashes between Israel Police and Palestinian rioters in East Jerusalem continued Friday evening, after a Palestinian teenager was shot dead by IDF forces in the West Bank village of Silwad, near Ramallah, earlier. Protesters hurled stones and firecrackers at police forces in the Old City and the capital’s Silwan neighborhood. Police, in turn, responded with riot dispersal means, Army Radio reported. There were no injuries in the incidents. Headline:     Chief Palestinian Authority (PA) negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat on Thursday denied reports that the Palestinians were willing to postpone by two months a petition to the U.N. Security Council calling for Israel to withdraw from the West Bank by November 2016

The London-based media outlet Asharq Alawsat had reported that the Palestinians acquiesced to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s request to delay the petition and return to negotiations with Israel. The Palestinians reportedly stated that their condition for returning to negotiations would be for Israel to present a map with the borders of a future Palestinian state. According to Erekat, the U.S. government relayed a message to the PA in Ramallah that the U.S. would use its veto power on any Palestinian proposal brought before the Security Council. Erekat warned that if the U.S. vetoes the Palestinian proposal, the Palestinians will stop all security coordination with Israel and will take unilateral measures, including joining international organizations and the International Criminal Court at The Hague. PA Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki also denied agreeing to postpone the U.N. Security Council petition. Maliki told Palestinian radio the PA would turn to the Security Council once they know they have secured the required nine of 15 affirmative votes. Headline: Israeli envoy: Jordanian king criticizing Israel to appease allies

Israel’s ambassador to Jordan suggested that King Abdullah II’s recent allegation that Israel kills Arab children en masse stems from pressure by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt. Ambassador Daniel Nevo offered the commentary in an interview that aired Friday on Army Radio. Abdullah leveled the accusation at Israel earlier this week during his meeting with Jordanian lawmakers. “If, as we are fighting radical Islamist groups as a coalition, they are slaughtering children in Gaza and Jerusalem every five minutes, then it’s impossible,” said Abdullah II of Jordan, who usually employs less inflammatory language when speaking about Israel. Nevo would not comment directly on the king’s statement but spoke generally about the monarch’s predicament as one of Israel’s closest allies in the region. “The king is being attacked by countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and even Egypt on how the Israelis allegedly are disrespecting him,” Nevo told Army Radio when asked to comment on Abdullah’s use of harsh language. “They don’t see the whole picture.” He added: “The violence at the Temple Mount puts Abdullah II in an embarrassing situation each time anew.” The 20-year anniversary of peace with Israel, which will occur next week, will not be noted or celebrated in Jordan, according to Army Radio. “People on the Jordanian street, they don’t watch Israeli television. They watch Al Jazeera. So how do you expect him to celebrate the anniversary?” Nevo asked.

Headline:  Five Lebanon troops wounded in Tripoli clash

Five Lebanese army troops and six Islamist gunmen were wounded in a clash late Friday in a historic area of the northern city of Tripoli, a security official said. “The number of wounded soldiers has risen to five,” said the official, who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity. “Six gunmen were injured and six others were arrested.” The clash that initially erupted in the souks (traditional markets) area of Lebanon’s second city also extended to other areas. Tripoli’s historic heart is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Ever since the war in neighbouring Syria broke out in 2011, Tripoli has been the scene of regular fighting between Sunni militants and members of Lebanon’s Alawite minority. Islamist gunmen have also turned on the Lebanese army, accusing it of targeting Sunnis and of cooperating with the powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah.

Headline:  Lebanon says it won’t accept more Syrian refugees

Lebanon announced on Thursday it will not accept any more refugees from neighboring war-torn Syria, except in what authorities deem to be “exceptional” cases – a move that could prevent tens of thousands of Syrians from escaping the civil war. Information Minister Ramzi Jreij said Lebanon can simply not handle any more refugees. The tiny Mediterranean country has 1.1 million officially registered Syrian refugees, although the number is believed to be far higher. They make up almost a quarter of the country’s population of 5 million.
The refugees have stretched the country’s already fragile infrastructure and compete with Lebanon’s poorest for low-paid jobs, causing tensions. Tens of thousands of Syrian children are out of school because there is nowhere to place them. The Syrian refugees already in Lebanon would be encouraged to leave, said Jreij.

A suspected jihadist car bomb has killed at least 26 Egyptian soldiers at a checkpoint in Sinai, officials say. The attack took place near El Arish, the main town in the north of the restive peninsula. Three more died in a shooting in the town itself. The bomb blast is one of the deadliest attacks in Sinai for months. At least 28 more people were injured. The army has been fighting a campaign against Sinai-based militants, who have carried out a string of attacks there. The area has become increasingly lawless since President Hosni Mubarak was overthrown in 2011. Meanwhile, A bomb exploded outside Egypt’s largest and most prominent university in the country’s capital on Wednesday, wounding 10 people, including six policemen, the Interior Ministry said. The bomb, described as a rudimentary device, went off following clashes between police and students who were protesting outside the sprawling campus, the ministry said. It was the second bombing outside Cairo University in the past six months.

Syria Headline: Peshmerga set to reinforce Syria’s Kobane

Iraq’s Kurds unveiled plans Friday to send fighters to help defend the Syrian border town of Kobane, amid uncertainty over a separate deployment of Syrian rebels announced by Turkey. An official in the Iraqi Kurdish capital of Arbil said peshmerga fighters will head for Kobane next week. Halgord Hekmat, the spokesman for the ministry responsible for the peshmerga, said the lightly armed reinforcements will “not exceed 200 fighters”. He declined to say what route they would take, but they will likely pass through Turkey, which has said it would allow them transit. The American military, meanwhile, said US and allied aircraft pounded the IS group Thursday and Friday with 12 air strikes in Iraq and six near Kobane. On the ground, Kurdish forces retook a strategic hill overlooking Kobane after coalition air strikes put the jihadists to flight the previous evening.

Syria Headline: U.S. investigating whether Islamic State launched chlorine attack in Iraq

Kurds battling Islamic State militants for control of Kobani fear the extremist group may have used an unidentified chemical weapon, according to officials and one of the few doctors still working in the besieged Syrian town. Patients with blisters, burning eyes and breathing difficulties turned up at a clinic after a blast was heard on Tuesday evening, Dr Walat Omar said. He described the symptoms as abnormal and said he could not identify their cause, but suspected a chemical weapon. “After a loud explosion [on Tuesday night], we received some patients with abnormal symptoms. They reported a bad smell which produced some kind of allergic reaction,” Omar said in a telephone interview that was periodically disrupted by heavy explosions. Islamic State (Isis) is thought to have obtained stocks of ageing but still potent chemical weapons when it seized Iraqi army bases where they were stored, the New York Times reported earlier this month. In June, the group took control of a sprawling complex that had been the heart of Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons programme, Al-Muthanna State Establishment. There may also have been chemical weapons buried or abandoned elsewhere, that were not destroyed by US forces or the Iraqi military. Stocks manufactured before 1991 are dirty, corroded and not always easy to identify or use, but can still cause serious injury. Iraqi officials said 11 police officers were poisoned by chlorine gas last month, when Isis fighters used it to attack the Iraqi town of Duluiya. All the officers survived.

Iraq Headline:  Renewed ISIS attacks leave Yazidi fighters in Iraq pleading for help

Yazidi fighters protecting hundreds of families trapped on Iraq’s Mount Sinjar are pleading for help over fears that a “large scale attack” by the Islamic State is imminent. After weeks of resistance, tribal defenders of the Yazidi religious minority were besieged by Islamic State jihadists on the mountain on Monday. “The situation is really bad and it’s worsening by the minute,” Barakat, a fighter on the mountain told Reuters. “We are surrounded by IS militants from all four directions. The streets at the foot of the mountain are completely under IS control.” The fighter said 500-600 families are stranded on the mountain and helicopters that have been dropping supplies can only evacuate small numbers of people at a time. Awar, another Yazidi fighter, said Thursday that ISIS militants are amassing on the eastern side of the mountain, according to Reuters. “There’s a strong possibility that a large scale attack is coming tonight or tomorrow morning,” he added. Yazidi fighters – who are short on supplies, like food and clothing – are pleading for more assistance, as their weapons are proving to be ineffective against Humvees operated by ISIS militants.

Kurdish Headline: Kurds deny deal with Turkey to let ‘FSA’ in Kobani

Kurdish Headline: Turkey says Over 1,000 Syrian rebels heading to Kobani

Syrian Kurdish fighters in the northern town of Kobani have denied any agreement with Turkey to allow in the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants to fight ISIL terrorists. During a Friday telephone interview from Brussels, head of Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), Saleh Moslem, denied Ankara’s claim after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier on the day that 1,300 FSA militants will be sent to Kobani to help defend the city. Moslem said the FSA would better open a second front to fight ISIL rather than going to the Kurdish city. Meanwhile, PYD has accused Ankara of helping ISIL terrorists by turning a blind eye to at least 120 militants crossing the border into Syria earlier this week. In a separate interview with Asharq al-Awsat daily, Moslem said new information shows the extremist militants planned to use chemical weapons against Kobani. Kurdish officials and doctors said on Wednesday that the terrorists released a sort of toxic gas in the eastern side of the Kurdish city late on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Iraq’s Kurdish regional parliament agreed on Wednesday to allow sending Peshmerga forces to Kobani to help the Syrian Kurds fighting there. The decision could be a turning point in the battle.

Kurdish Headline: Three Kurdish militants killed in attack on Turkish power plant

Turkish soldiers killed three Kurdish militants who were part of a group that attacked a power plant in the eastern province of Kars, Turkish sources said on Friday. Fighters from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) set fire to two vehicles and a cabin at the plant in Kagizman district, and shot at soldiers who returned fire, the general staff said in a statement on its website. Three PKK guerrillas were killed and a search was launched for the others, a security source said. The shootout followed unrest in eastern Turkey earlier this month in which dozens died, triggered after Kurds rioted at what they saw as the government’s refusal to help Syrian Kurds fighting Islamic State jihadists in the besieged town of Kobani on Turkey’s southern border.

Headline: Gulf Arab allies ask U.S. to stop talking about their role in war on ISIL

The United States has stopped providing details of Arab participation in the coalition against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. Officials said Arab partners in the coalition against ISIL no longer wanted Washington to release details of their operations. They said such countries as Jordan and Saudi Arabia sought to avoid an Islamic backlash from striking ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria. “They found it very uncomfortable being in the spotlight,” an official said. The Defense Department has identified Arab coalition partners as Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In October, the Pentagon released details of Arab air strikes on ISIL strongholds in Iraq and Syria. By Oct. 14, the Pentagon stopped reporting on Arab participation in U.S.-led air strikes on ISIL. At the same time, officials acknowledged that Arab fighter-jet operations were deemed ineffective, with pilots unable to find ISIL targets. A week later, the U.S. military said it was ending reporting on the activity of other nations in the anti-ISIL coalition. Central Command did not cite any of the Arab participants, but on Oct. 22, Centcom identified Britain and France.

Headline:  NATO calls on Russia to withdraw troops ahead of Ukraine poll

NATO head Jens Stoltenberg called on Russia Friday to withdraw its troops from Ukraine as the country prepares for key national elections which pro-Moscow rebels plan to prevent in areas they control. Stoltenberg, who took office last month with the crisis top of his agenda, said Russia’s continued presence and support for the rebels violated international law, as well as Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moscow denies that it has any military presence in Ukraine or that it supplies pro-Russian rebels there with weapons.
Kiev and the rebels agreed a cease-fire on September 5, which has been frequently breached.

Headline:  Pakistan and Iran exchange mortar fire on border

Pakistani and Iranian forces have exchanged mortar fire along their porous border. Pakistani officials said Iran fired six mortar shells, which landed near the border town of Mashkail. Pakistan is then thought to have fired back. The two countries share a long desert border which straddles Balochistan province in south-west Pakistan and Sistan Baluchistan in eastern Iran. Last week, Pakistan said a soldier died and three were hurt by Iranian guards. Pakistan has been accused by predominantly Shia Muslim Iran of failing to stop cross-border attacks on its forces by extremist Sunni Muslim militants. Sistan Baluchistan, which also borders Afghanistan, has been the scene of frequent clashes in recent years between Iranian security forces and drug-smugglers and Sunni rebel groups. This escalation comes at a time when Pakistan is already facing tensions with India on its eastern border.

Headline: Obama extends emergency sanctions in Sudan

Sudan’s defence minister Abdel Rahim Hussein returned Thursday to Khartoum after unannounced visit to Beijing where he conducted military talks with Chinese officials.
“The visit was important, fruitful, successful,” said Hussein in statements he made after his arrival to Khartoum airport. He added the visit came in the framework of cooperation between the Sudanese and Chinese defence ministries, and aimed to strengthening and consolidating military cooperation, and exchange of expertise between the armed forces.
The Chinese army website, China Military Online, reported that the visiting minister met respectively with the vice-chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Xu Qiliang and Chinese minister of national defence Chang Wanquan, on 16 and 17 October. The official military media said that the minister Chang stressed willingness to develop and consolidate the traditional friendship between the two armies, expand exchanges and cooperation and push forward the development of the military relations. The Sudanese delegation comprised military officials, minister of state for finance and an official from the central bank.

Headline: Libyan army retakes Benghazi airport, city’s largest militia base

Libya’s armed forces announced on Friday that they have regained control of residential areas of the eastern city of Benghazi, where a coalition of armed militias have held sway for several months. Two army units, the 21st stormtrooper brigade and 204 tanks division, advanced on Thursday towards Libya’s second city from the town of al-Bayda, some 200 kilometres east of Benghazi. The forces retook control of Benina International Airport, which has been a flashpoint for battles in recent weeks – fierce fighting there on 9 October killed militia leader Salim Nabbous. After taking the airport, the Libyan army brigades advanced further south-west towards central Benghazi. Heavy clashes then ensued inside the city between Libya’s armed forces and fighters from the Shura Council of Revolutionaries, a coalition of militias including Ansar al-Sharia that was formed in June 2014. After intense fighting, the Libyan army announced on Friday morning that they had retaken the Amin district of Benghazi, a residential area in the south of the city. Some residents of the city took to the streets to welcome the incoming soldiers, who advanced with heavy weaponry and tanks.

Headline:   Tunisia Forces Kill 6 After Standoff with Militants Outside Tunis

Tunisian security forces on Friday killed six people, including five women, after a standoff with an Islamist militant group on the outskirts of Tunis two days before a parliamentary election, authorities said. The raid on the house in Oued Ellil, west of Tunis, was the latest operation in Tunisia’s crackdown on Islamist militants authorities say threaten the country’s transition to democracy following the 2011 fall of Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali. A number of militants including women had been holed up in a house since Thursday after clashes in which one police officer was killed when troops surrounded the building, according to security officials. Authorities said one man and five women were killed when troops stormed the house on Friday. Officials said two children were also rescued from the house.

Headline:  Morocco “Very Concerned” By Israeli Escalation In Al Quds Asharif

Morocco is “very concerned” by the Israeli escalation in Al Quds Asharif and calls the international community to take up its responsibilities and make pressures to lead Israel to stop its assaults on Al Aqsa mosque and end the judaization acts and construction of settlements in the holy city. “The Kingdom of Morocco is following with great concern Israel’s escalation regarding the issue of Al Quds Asharif, as Israeli authorities are repeatedly making provoking statements in an attempt to undermine the legal status of Al Quds Asharif as part and parcel of the occupied Palestinian territories in 1967, as it had been set by the international resolutions,” says a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation released this Friday. These practices are likely to contribute to bogging down the Palestinian issue into the labyrinth of religious and inter-faith conflicts, in the run up to the holy sites occupation, the release deplores. Morocco, which also voiced concerns over systematic and repeated assaults against Al Aqsa Mosque, as well the intensification of settlements in the holy city, also strongly denounced Israel’s hostile behavior which deepens the feeling of injustice among the Palestinians and the millions of Muslims worldwide.

Headline:   Germany offers guidance to reconcile Armenia, Turkey

Germany’s foreign minister Thursday offered Berlin’s experience in postwar reconciliation to Armenia and Turkey to help them forge peace a century after a World War I-era massacre. On a visit to Yerevan, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Germany’s long road to partnership with France after two world wars could serve as an example following the 1915 slaughter of Armenians during World War I. “When it comes to the bloody history of the 20th century, in which Germany started two world wars, we should not present ourselves as the schoolmasters,” he told reporters after talks with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan. “But we can offer our experience.” He noted that he had also told Turkish leaders earlier this year that Germany and France had worked hard to overcome the hatred of previous generations. “After a difficult century, we have reconciled by not keeping silent about our historical responsibility” but by “working through the horrific things that happened,” he said. “If our experience can be helpful, we are ready to offer it,” he said, citing youth exchange programs as one initiative that had helped to build bridges. “But that must be decided here.” Nalbandian said Armenia was ready to reduce tensions with Turkey but insisted the ball was in Ankara’s court.

Headline:  17 detained after clash between pro-ISIL, leftist university students

Police detained 17 students after a clash erupted between pro-Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and leftist students at İstanbul University on Friday. According to media reports, fighting erupted between the two groups on Friday morning. Many riot police officers were sent to break up the fight at the university, and they detained a total of 17 students. Media reports stated that some of the detained students were slightly injured. The detainees were mainly members of the Muslim Youth Group, who shouted chants like “Live long, Muslim students,” “We are Muslim students; the insults made to us will not be left unpunished” and “We are Muslim students. Because they [the leftist students] insulted Islam, we did what was necessary.” The detained students were taken to the police station for questioning. The riot police have taken strict security measures around İstanbul University’s Faculty of Science, where the fight took place. This tension that erupted on Friday was not the first incident between pro-ISIL students and other student groups at İstanbul University.

Headline: Police prepare for grand jury decision in Ferguson

Missouri police have been brushing up on constitutional rights and stocking up on riot gear to prepare for a grand jury’s decision about whether to charge a white police officer who fatally shot a black 18-year-old in suburban St. Louis. The preparations are aimed at avoiding a renewed outbreak of violence during the potentially large demonstrations that could follow an announcement of whether Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will face a criminal trial for the Aug. 9 death of Michael Brown. Police and protesters have repeatedly clashed since the shooting, which prompted a national conversation about race and police tactics. Images of officers in riot gear and armored vehicles confronting protesters have drawn widespread criticism. Many protesters want Wilson indicted for murder. Grand jury proceedings are secret, but legal analysts say recently leaked information about Wilson’s testimony to investigators may be an attempt to prepare the public for the possibility that he might not be charged. The decision could be made public within the next month.

In Bahrain, anti-regime demonstrators have reportedly taken to the streets of the Persian Gulf kingdom, calling on the ruling Al Khalifa regime to relinquish power. According to reports, the Bahraini demonstrators held an anti-regime protest rally in the northwestern village of Bani Jamra. Reports say similar gatherings were also held in the village of Maqaba, located north of the capital, Manama. Earlier this month, Bahrainis held protests across the country, calling for the boycott of upcoming general elections scheduled to take place next month. Bahrain’s main opposition party al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has said the upcoming vote will be undemocratic and will only give credit to the Al Khalifa rule. The election will be the first since protests started in Bahrain in 2011.

Headline: South Yemen separatists turn out to demand independence

Thousands of southern Yemenis turned out in Aden Friday to demand independence for their once sovereign region, as rebels from the north press to expand their control over more of the impoverished country. Yemen continues to reel under the impact of the expansion by Shiite rebels, after they overran the capital last month and seized a major port unopposed, before clashing with Sunni tribes and Al-Qaeda south of Sanaa. The demonstrators gathered in Aden’s Parade Square to mark a “Day of Anger” called by the Supreme Council of the Revolutionary Peaceful Movement for the Liberation and Independence of the South, a new coalition of two major separatist groups. Waving flags of the former South Yemen, they chanted “we demand freedom and independence” and “independence or death.”

Headline: Draghi warns eurozone leaders on recession ‘relapse’

European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi on Friday (24 October) gave a stark warning to eurozone leaders about the risk of a “relapse into recession” unless they agree on a “concrete timetable” of reforms and spur investments. “The eurozone is at a critical stage, the recovery has lost its momentum, confidence is declining, unemployment is high. Commitments were made but often words were not followed by deeds,” Draghi told the 18 leaders of eurozone countries who gathered for a special meeting at the end of a regular EU summit in Brussels. He showed them graphs and comparisons with the US highlighting the poor state of the eurozone economy. “We avoided the collapse of the euro, but now our efforts should focus on avoiding a relapse into recession. I hope economy will pick up, but hope is not a strategy, today’s problems will not go away miraculously,” Draghi said.

Headline:  French unemployment hits new record high

After a slight improvement in August, the number of jobless in France once again increased in September, reaching a new record high of 3.43 million unemployed, government figures revealed Friday. Data from France’s labor ministry showed unemployment rose by 0.6 percent last month, after the modest 0.3 rise it experienced in August. “Let’s be honest, we are failing,” French Labor Minister François Rebsamen told Le Parisien newspaper on Friday in an unusually candid acknowledgement of France’s massive unemployment problem. The figures were published amid declarations by Prime Minister Manuel Valls which suggested the government may seek reforms to the country’s unemployment benefits and work contracts’ system. In a recent interview in French weekly Les Obs, Valls said he thought France should consider revising existing long-term and short-term contracts in order to merge the two into a single contract system opposed by unions. Speaking from Brussels at the end of a European Council meeting on Friday, President François Hollande said unemployment could not be checked in a sustainable way unless “economic growth returns in Europe.”

Headline: 21 Asian countries initiate new China-backed bank

China along with 20 other nations have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a new Beijing-backed infrastructure lender for Asia. The MOU to set up the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was signed during a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in the Chinese capital on Friday. “In China we have a folk saying,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said after the ceremony, adding, “If you would like to get rich, build roads first, and I believe that is a very vivid description of the very importance of infrastructure to economic development.” Authorities said that the bank, which is anticipated to have an initial capital of USD 50 billion mostly provided by China, aims to meet the need for the construction of dams, ports, power plants and telecommunications networks in Asia. Regional economic giant India and smaller but economically vibrant countries such as Singapore and Vietnam were among the signatories to the initiative in the absence of US allies – Japan, South Korea and Australia. The world’s second-largest economy also is supporting another USD 50 billion-lending institution, the New Development Bank, which is sponsored by the BRICS countries that also include Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa.

China deployed more than 1,200 troops and scrambled fighter jets in response to an unauthorised flight near Beijing airport by what turned out to be a mapping drone, state-run media reported on Thursday. Three men were being prosecuted over the incident, the China Daily said. It cited prosecutors as saying that 1,226 military personnel, 123 military vehicles, 26 radar technicians, two fighter jets and two helicopters were sent into action after the aircraft was spotted on radar screens. Police arrested two men as they flew the drone and a third confessed later, according to the paper, which is published by the government. All three men worked for an aviation technology company, the report said, and the 2.3-metre-long (7.5ft) drone was intended to be used for survey and mapping purposes. China forbids any flights, manned or unmanned, without prior approval from the air force, civil aviation authorities and the local air traffic control bureau.

Headline: North Korea: South’s leaflet campaign ‘declaration of war’

North Korea said Friday that propaganda leaflets sent by balloon from South Korea is tantamount to a declaration of war. “It’s a de facto declaration of war to insult and slander our supreme self-dignity and system with every kind of false and fabricated information,” Pyongyang stated. The warning comes as activists in South Korea say they plan to dispatch 100,000 leaflets across the border on Saturday. Earlier this month, on the 69th anniversary of the Workers’ Party in the North, South Korean activists floated balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang pamphlets across the border that were then shot at by the North’s military. Some shots landed south of the border, prompting Seoul’s military to return fire. Pyongyang has threatened to “annihilate” those responsible for the pamphlet campaign.

A New York doctor living in Harlem was diagnosed with Ebola on Thursday, after having returned last week from Guinea where he is thought to have treated patients suffering from the epidemic with Doctors Without Borders. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday evening at Bellevue Hospital Center that the tests had come back positive for Dr. Craig Spencer, reports CBS 2. All four people thought to have had contact with Spencer during the time when he showed symptoms and was in danger of spreading the lethal virus have been quarantined, and officials stressed there is no need to worry, as the virus is only transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids. Spencer had used the subway system, riding on the A, L and 1 trains, and likewise taken an Uber taxi ride to go bowling at The Gutter in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, said New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Travis Bassett. However, she stressed there was virtually no chance of the disease spreading in those locations, as simply being in the same environment is not enough to become infected with the virus. Meanwhile, a well known and highly respected doctor has come forth with claims that the U.S. government has been intentionally concealing cases of Ebola in the United States. Dr. James Lawrenzi made the comments on Thursday while appearing as a guest on the Alex Jones show. Jones, the host of a nationally broadcast radio talk show, Infowars, has been an outspoken critic of the way in which the Ebola health crisis has been handled by the Obama administration. Lawrenzi, who owns and operates two health care facilities located in in Garden City and Archie, Missouri, claims that the number of Ebola patients in the U.S. is much higher than what the Centers for Disease Control has been letting on. According to Dr. Lawrenzi, his suspicions first arose shortly after news broke that Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian visiting family in Dallas, Texas, was diagnosed with the deadly disease in September of 2014. Lawrenzi claims that he was told by a doctor at Truman Lakewood Medical Center in Kansas City that the hospital was also treating a patient with Ebola like symptoms who was demonstrating a high fever and was bleeding profusely from multiple orifices after having recently returned from West Africa. The following day, claims Lawrenzi, the same doctor told him that the patient had “disappeared” but that it was highly unlikely that the patient could have left of his own accord giving his grave medical condition. Another patient displaying classic Ebola like symptoms was then admitted to Kansas City’s Research Medical Center the following day but also quickly “disappeared,” said Lawrenzi. Neither patient has ever been found.

Headline: Enterovirus D68 Confirmed In Santa Barbara

Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) is now circulating in the Santa Barbara area. Santa Barbara County Public Health confirmed the first local case late Friday morning involving a 15-year-old girl. County Health Manager Paige Batson told NewsChannel 3 that seven other cases are being tested; Result time varies between seven days and three weeks. “It is important to know it is circulating in our community,” said Batson. Batson said the others being watched include three babies under the age of one, two children under the age of five, and two adults over the age of 65. There are many forms of enterovirus but the EV-D68 version attacks the respiratory system and can cause difficulty breathing, in rare cases, death. For the first time, local health care workers are testing for the EV-D68 version because of a nationwide outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website shows EV-D68 levels are elevated right now throughout California, but that infections will likely begin to decline by late fall. Many of the children impacted have asthma or a history of wheezing. The CDC has documented eight deaths releated to EV-D68.

Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due”(Romans)

Headline: Utah Supreme Court clears way for adoption by partners of same-sex spouses

The Utah Supreme Court on Thursday lifted an order that had blocked spouses in same-sex marriages from adopting their partners’ children, state officials said. The state’s highest court had imposed a stay on the adoptions in May, while Utah appealed a federal ruling last year that permitted same-sex marriages for 17 days before the Supreme Court halted them pending appeal. Earlier this month, after the U.S. Supreme Court denied appeals of same-sex marriage bans and an appeals court reaffirmed its order making same-sex marriage legal in the state, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes ordered county clerks to recognize all legally performed same-sex marriages. On the same day, Reyes petitioned the state Supreme Court to remove its stay of the adoptions, saying the issue was now moot. Missy Larsen, a spokeswoman for Reyes, said the high court’s action on Thursday came in response to that petition.

Headline:   Iranian Pastor Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Spreading Christianity

An Iranian pastor has been sentenced to six years in prison for spreading Christianity in the nation, an act that is believed to be seen by the government as a threat to the Iranian regime. As previously reported, Behnam Irani, who leads the 300-member Church of Iran in Karaj, was initially detained in 2006 while holding a Bible study and sentenced to prison five years later for “action against the state.” In June, he was interrogated on five occasions for four hours each. Authorities then added 18 new charges against the 41-year-old pastor, including Mofsed fel-Arz or “spreading corruption on Earth,” which carries the death penalty. Another translation of the charge is “enemies of God on Earth.” However, earlier this month, the charges were reduced and Irani instead faced accusations of “action against national security” and “creating a network to overthrow the system,” which are stated to be catchalls to criminalize anyone deemed a threat to the government. On Sunday, Irani was declared guilty by Judge Asel Al-Hosseyn, and two other leaders with the Church of Iran, Abdolreza Ali-Haghnejad and Reza Rabbani, were sentenced as  well.

Headline: Largest sunspot in more than 20 years facing Earth

A massive sunspot region is staring at the Earth, and frequently hurling out high energy solar flares. But so far, none of the flares have been complemented by a blast of plasma known as a coronal mass ejection (CME) that can lead to aurora in the Earth’s atmosphere and interfere with spacecraft operations and power systems. The sunspot region, known as AR2192, is so big that it is visible to a (well-protected) naked eye and was visible during Thursday’s partial solar eclipse. “This is the largest sunspot group since November of 1990,” said Doug Biesecker, a researcher at the National Weather Service Space Weather Prediction Center. Its size is 2,740 millionths of the solar disc which, according to the Web site The Sun Today, is roughly the size of Jupiter. NASA says the largest sunspot on record, observed in 1947, was almost three times as large as AR2192. Consider that AR2192 is 80,000 miles in diameter – and you could lay 10 Earths across it.

Headline: Earthquake at Colombia-Ecuador border triggers fears of volcanic eruptions

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake that recently hit the Colombia-Ecuador border region has triggered fears of eruptions at two volcanoes – Cerro Negro and Chiles – reported Colombia Reports. The Colombian Geological Service has raised the alert level to orange, which indicates “probable eruption in term of days to weeks.” Any eruption would mostly affect Colombia’s Narino region. Cerro Negro and Chiles have not erupted in the last 160,000 years, reports Colombia Reports.

Headline: Rare tornado rips roofs, uproots trees in Washington state

A rare tornado ripped roofs off buildings, uprooted trees and shattered windows Thursday afternoon in the southwest Washington city of Longview, but there were no reports of injuries. A National Weather Service storm survey team from nearby Portland, Oregon, estimated the EF1 tornado carved a path of 1.3 miles and packed winds of 86 to 110 mph, meteorologist Miles Higa said. Longview Fire Chief Phil Jurmu admitted his first reaction was disbelief. “I kind of furrowed my brow, probably, and said `What?”‘ he told KATU-TV of Portland. Still, police and fire crews responded quickly to the hardest-hit area and cordoned it off with help from the National Guard, which has an armory nearby, Jurmu said. Police Chief Jim Duscha told the Daily News of Longview the full extent of damage wouldn’t be known until Friday. Crews quickly started cleaning up under sunny skies that followed the windstorm. Roofs were torn off an assisted living building and a towing company structure, the newspaper reported. Tornadoes are rare in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest, where the nearby Pacific Ocean generally prevents severe temperature changes.
