That today, at sundown, begins the Greatest Love Story Ever Told? That’s right- the greatest! For it is a story of God’s love for us in the sacrificing of His Son.

God’s holiday of Pesach (Passover) is typically celebrated today with Easter in Christian circles.  But we can find God’s original purpose in Leviticus 23:4-14, the beginning of the Spring Feasts- all of which Christ has fulfilled! Passover incorporates three of the four Spring Feasts and is to be celebrated on the 1st and 7th day with a sacred assembly; the other days are to be a celebration, with much food, rejoicing and dancing!  The Passover (Pesach) lasts 7 Days. There are two other holidays included in Passover that are often overlooked: the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Hag Ha Matzah), which starts the day after Passover begins and the Feast of First Fruits (Yom HaBikkurim), which begins the day after Passover ends.

1 Corinthians 5:6-8 shows us clearly that Christ fulfilled BOTH Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread:  Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Now the Feast of First Fruits begins the day after Passover ends.  Why?  Because that is the day the Israelites were to take a sheaf of grain from their harvest to the Priest so he could wave it before the Lord. When Christ died, He was our sheaf of grain.  The Feast of First Fruits will culminate in seven weeks with is called Shavuot or Pentecost- the day the first believers received the Holy Spirit.

I Cor. 15:20-24:  20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.”

Although many read this passage as a commentary on the order of resurrection, Paul is actually making a technical reference to the holy day of First Fruits. It is not just that Yeshua was the first to rise bodily from the grave, but that by so doing, He is the direct fulfillment of the feast of First Fruits. We miss a very important Biblical truth by not using the term “First Fruits” as the name of this feast, because “first” implies a second, third, fourth, and so on, and that is the real meaning of this feast. We are not only celebrating the resurrection of Yeshua of First Fruits, we are celebrating the resurrection of the entire body of Believers, His Church!

Headline: Temple Mount Closed After Muslim Rioting

Muslim rioters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli Police forces on the Temple Mount Sunday morning, prompting the Mount to be closed to visitors until further notice. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP that violence erupted when police opened one of the walled compound’s gates to non-Muslim visitors, according to the regular visiting hours. “Stones and a number of Molotov cocktails were thrown at police,” he said. “Police responded by using stun grenades and entered the Temple Mount area.”

Headline:  Pesach Shame: Hamas Conquers Temple Mount

Police have “lost control of the Temple Mount,” Temple activists charged Monday morning, on the eve of Pesach. Dozens of Hamas men have taken over the Mount, waving Hamas flags, and are “not allowing Jews and tourists into the Mount,” said the activists. “Hundreds of Jews who came to the Temple Mount for Pesach were astonished to find a police representative standing at the entrance gate and announcing that the Mount had been closed off to Jews after Hamas had taken over the Mount and threatened violence against any Jews who enter,” the Temple organizations reported in a news communique. The Temple organizations called for the police commissioner to resign, following his failures on the Temple Mount. The latest incident comes just one day after Hamas-linked Islamists rioted on the Temple Mount, preventing Jewish visitors from ascending Judaism’s holiest site. In response, police banned Jews from the site – prompting Temple Mount activists to accuse authorities of essentially collaborating with Muslim extremists to prevent Jews from visiting the Mount. The Temple activists say that about 20 Hamas men stayed in the compound overnight and that the police have allowed them to do so.

***Thousands of Jews are expected to ascend the Temple Mount during the upcoming intermediate days of Passover.  The actual ReEnactment of the Passover Sacrifice took place April 10th in the courtyard of the Talmud Torah Ma’or HaTorah (‘Maimon’), 7 Ben Tzion Street, Kiryat Moshe, Jerusalem and was carried out by the students of the school for priests, Nezer Ha-kodesh, which started operating this year. The footage in this video was taken from the Temple Institute’s special symposium about the Passover offering, which included a simulation of the Passover offering in the Holy Temple. It was not intended to be an actual offering, as the Passover offering must take place on the Temple Mount.

Headline:Hamas Gaza Rally: In A Few Years The Resistance Will Destroy Israel

A Hamas leader serving multiple life sentences in an Israeli prison has declared an open-ended hunger in protest at his solitary confinement, a Palestinian prisoner support group said on Sunday. Ibrahim Hamed was sentenced in 2010 to multiple life sentences after being convicted of ordering the killing of dozens of Israelis and wounding hundreds.  The Ramallah-based Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that about 200 other Palestinians spread across several Israeli jails would fast in solidarity with Hamed, taking it in turns to each go without food for limited periods, including Fatah commander Marwan Barghouti and general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Ahmed Saadat.

Palestinians in Gaza early Sunday morning fired a mortar shell at southern Israel. The shell fell in an open area near the Gaza border fence in the Eshkol region in the western Negev. There were no reports of casualties or damage. The attack triggered Code Red sirens in the area, unlike some recent shells that failed to set off the alarm, apparently due to technical failure.Recent weeks have seen an uptick in violence from the coastal enclave after over a year of relative quiet.

Headline:  Israel minister warns Kerry over ‘surrender’ to Iran

Israel’s intelligence minister Monday slammed as unacceptable comments by US Secretary of State John Kerry on negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme which he said indicated a “surrender” to Tehran. “The things Kerry said in the Congress are worrying, they are surprising and they are unacceptable,” Yuval Steinitz, who is also strategic affairs minister, told public radio. “We watch the negotiations with concern. We are not opposed to a diplomatic solution but we are against a solution which is entirely a surrender to Iran and which leaves it a threshold nuclear state,” Steinitz said. In remarks to US lawmakers last week Kerry warned that the Islamic republic was two months away from breakout capability to produce enough nuclear material for a bomb should they resume their mothballed enrichment process. Responding to reports that international negotiations with Iran should focus on extending the time it would take for Iran to produce nuclear weapons to between six and 12 months Kerry said the ultimate goal was assurance that Iran never build an atomic bomb but slowing the process would be an improvement on the current situation. “I think it is fair to say, I think it is public knowledge today, that we are operating with a time period for a so-called breakout of about two months,” Kerry said. Steinitz insisted that Israel would not allow such a scenario. “We will not be able to adopt and accept any agreement which leaves Iran months or a year from a nuclear weapon,” he insisted.

Headline:  Israel says close to forging new ties across Arab world

Israel is holding secret talks with some Arab states that do not recognize it, looking to establish diplomatic ties based on a common fear of Iran, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Monday. Amongst the countries he was in contact with were Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Lieberman told newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth – the first such disclosure by a senior Israeli official. The two nations swiftly denied the existence of any talks with Israel. Both these states, along with most other Arab nations, have traditionally been highly hostile towards Israel, which has only signed peace deals with two neighbors – Egypt and Jordan. However, anti-Israeli sentiment was being superseded by a growing concern over Iran’s nuclear program, Tehran’s regional allies, and the menace of Islamist militancy, Lieberman said. “For the first time there is an understanding there that the real threat is not Israel, the Jews or Zionism. It is Iran, global jihad, (Lebanese Shi’ite guerrilla group) Hezbollah and al Qaeda,” the foreign minister said. “There are contacts, there are talks, but we are very close to the stage in which within a year or 18 months it will no longer be secret, it will be conducted openly,” added Lieberman, who is a far rightist in the coalition government.

Headline:   Israeli and Palestinian negotiators to meet without US presence

Israeli and Palestinian negotiators convened Sunday in Jerusalem in the latest attempt to save teetering peace talks. The meeting is attended by Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s special envoy Yitzhak Molcho and the head of Palestinian intelligence Majid Faraj will also attend the meeting. Special US envoy Martin Indyk has returned to the US and is not present at the meeting. The talks hit an impasse two weeks ago when Israel refused to release as agreed a group of Palestinian prisoners and the Palestinians retaliated by seeking accession to several international treaties.

LebanonHeadline:  Lebanon objects to Arab League final statement

Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil Monday voiced his country’s reservation and opposition to a recent resolution by the Arab League that he said failed to mention the Palestinian right of return, a crucial item for Lebanon.  “We gladly accepted the Arab League invitation to listen to the president of Palestine on developments in the negotiations with the Israeli side under the sponsorship of the U.S.,” Bassil told reporters. “In that ministerial meeting, we supported the decisions which were expected to be in the final statement because it preserved the tripartite formula of the Arab Peace Initiative,” he said, referring to the need for Israel to withdrawal to the 1967 borders, the establishment of a Palestinian state and the right of refugees to return. However, he added: “We were surprised to see that the right of return, or at least rejection of nationalization in Lebanon, was dropped from the final statement … therefore, we announce our reservation and opposition against what happened.”

EgyptHeadline:  Sisi officially enters Egypt’s presidential race

Egypt’s interim deputy prime minister officially entered the presidential race on Monday when his campaigners handed in application papers to the elections committee in Cairo, the country’s state TV said.  Amid heighted security measures, three black 4×4 cars belonging to Sisi’s campaigners arrived at the elections committee headquarters with an army helicopters roaming above. The former army chief Sisi, who is riding a wave of popularity after ousting Islamist leader Mohammad Mursi in July, is widely expected to win the May 26-27 election.
The 59-year-old had declared his intention to run for president in late March. “Lawyer Abu Shoqa submitted the required documents on behalf of Sisi that include endorsements by citizens, medical reports, and an application for his candidacy,” Ahmed Kamel told AFP.

Syria_240-animated-flag-gifs Headline: Syria’s Assad claims upper hand in war ‘turning point’

Headline:  Syria opposition claims has evidence of chlorine gas attack

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad has claimed the upper hand in what he called a “turning point” in the three-year long civil war. President Assad made the comments in an address at Damascus University, his forces have been steadily recapturing rebel-held towns near the Lebanese border for several months. More than 150,000 people have been killed in the conflict, with millions forced to flee their homes. “This is a turning point in the crisis,” President Assad said. He added that his army was winning what he called “the war against terror”. Government forces have secured the main north-south highway in Syria in recent months, and have cut off vital supply routes for rebel forces. President Assad is expected to announce that he will stand for a third term as leader. The BBC’s Lyse Doucet says the comments make clear that he is not willing to stand down despite repeated calls for him to go by armed opposition groups and their Western and Arab backers.  Meanwhile, the Syrian air force carried out bombing raids on areas near Damascus on Sunday, rights groups said. Activists said 20 people were killed in government air attacks in the Douma suburb. Syria’s official news agency reported that a man was killed and twenty injured in a mortar attack in central Damascus. On Friday, the government and opposition forces accused each other of using poison gas in the village of Kafr Zita. The attack killed two people and left dozens injured.

Syrian government troops seized two villages, one of them an ancient Christian hamlet, north of Damascus on Monday, as part of the military’s relentless offensive along the rugged frontier with Lebanon, state media and activists said.Syria’s state news agency said forces loyal to President Bashar Assad captured Sarkha early Monday before also quickly sweeping rebels out of the nearby village of Maaloula. The Lebanese TV channel al-Mayadeen, which closely follows the Syrian conflict, briefly broadcast footage that it said was from inside Maaloula, a predominantly Christian village, showing a cluster of buildings set in hilly terrain. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has a network of activists on the ground, confirmed that both Sarkha and Maaloula had fallen to government forces.

Headline:   Iran lodges complaint against United States over UN envoy ban

Iran has unveiled plans to double its oil production by the end of the decade and, ignoring sanctions, pump billions of dollars of its currency reserves into developing its share of the world’s largest natural gas reservoir in the Persian Gulf. The country’s new oil minister, Bijan Zanganeh, has set a new output target of 5.7m barrels per day (bpd) of crude by 2018, according to the official state-run news agency Shana. The latest figures produced by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), show that Iran is currently pumping about 3m bpd of crude. Tehran is also sending strong signals to the international community that it plans to press ahead with the development of vast natural gas reserves that it shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf. Moshtaq Ali-Gohari, head of the National Iranian Oil Company, told Shana over the weekend that the Islamic republic plans to invest almost $14bn (£8.3bn) to develop oil and gas fields that it shares with neighbours in the region. This could signal that Tehran is preparing for the further development of the South Pars field in the Gulf.

Bombings targeting security forces in northern Iraq killed at least 16 people Sunday, authorities said, as the country prepares for a crucial election later this month. In the deadliest attack, an explosives-laden parked car exploded as a joint Iraqi army and police patrol passed through a busy commercial area in Mosul, killing five civilians and five security personnel, a police officer said. He said the blast wounded 12. A medical official confirmed the figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release the information. Headline:  Heavy fighting erupts in South Sudan’s Unity state

Rebel spokesperson Peter Riek Gew says forces from the South Sudanese army (SPLA) loyal to president Salva Kiir attacked their hideout in the north of Unity state on Sunday night. However, he claims rebels defended their positions and have captured an oil field, about 35km from the state capital, Bentiu. The incident is the latest blow to a ceasefire deal signed between the South Sudanese government and the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition. “We have been respecting [the] ceasefire agreement for so long but the SPLA never do that. We have managed to repulse [a] twin attack launched by [the] SPLA on us that led to our gallant forces – SPLA in Opposition – to capture Tor-abieth, Tharwangyiela, kilo 30 (Sikasik) which is known as Kubur Nyabol,” said Gew told Sudan Tribune phone, adding that rebel troops were now advancing towards the capital.

Headline:  Prime Minister of Libya Says He Will Resign

The interim prime minister, Abdullah al-Thinni, announced on the government’s website that he was leaving his post but would stay on as leader of the cabinet until a replacement could be found. He is the second Libyan prime minister to resign within two months, underlining the nation’s instability after the fall of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in 2011. Mr. Thinni said that he was stepping down “to protect the interests of the country and so as not to drag different sides into fighting when there can be no winner.” He also said his decision was related to an armed attack on him and his family Saturday night in a residential neighborhood that, he added, put the lives of its residents at risk. He said he did not want to be the cause of any fighting or bloodshed. Officials at Libya’s nascent security forces could not be immediately reached to comment on Mr. Thinni’s claim.

Headline:Discontent Swells as President of Algeria Seeks a Fourth Term

With a presidential election on Thursday, most Algerians see a fourth term for the incumbent, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, as a foregone conclusion. Mr. Bouteflika has already been in power 15 years. a violent protest forced the former prime minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, to cancel a rally in support of the president on April 5 in Bejaia, 150 miles east of here, when hundreds of demonstrators blocked streets and threw stones. Part of the cultural center where Mr. Sellal was to speak was burned and police officers and journalists were wounded in hours of clashes, the local media reported. The signs of discontent tell of the frustration that has surrounded Mr. Bouteflika’s run in a country with about 30 percent unemployment, and where many chafe for change even as many more, perhaps, fear the instability that change might bring. The result has been a kind of political inertia embodied in Mr. Bouteflika and a public apathy about the campaign that may well translate into the low turnout that the opposition desires.

Headline:U.S Calls on Morocco, Turkey to Train Libya’s Military

More than two years after the toppling of former Libya’s strong man Moamar Gaddafi and the constitution of a new transition government, the North African country is still grappling with a fragile security situation. This is compounded by a weak military that has so far failed to extend its grip throughout a territory that has become a fertile ground for Al Qaeda operatives. To help the Libyan government strengthen its authority, the American government has called on Morocco and Turkey to train the Libyan military. According to the World Tribune, the Obama Administration is seeking the help of Morocco to rebuild Libya’s weak military. “Between the four European partners, the U.S. and the Moroccans, they’ve committed to train up to 20,000 people in that force,” U.S. Africa Command chief Gen. David Rodriguez was quoted by the World Tribune as saying.

Headline:  Turkey ‘aided Islamist fighters’ in attack on Syrian town

Turkey facilitated an attack carried out by Islamist fighters against the Armenian town of Kasab inside Syria, eyewitnesses have told the Telegraph. In an operation that was months in the planning, Turkish authorities gave rebel groups the mandate they needed to attack, allowing them access through a heavily militarised Turkish border post, whose location was strategically vital to the success of the assault. “Turkey did us a big favour,” said a Syrian activist with the rebel group, whose name the Telegraph knows but has been asked not to reveal. “They allowed our guys to enter from their border post. “We needed to hit the regime from different sides and this was the only way from near the coast, so it was a big help.” The Turkish foreign ministry has issued a statement stating that the claims that the government aided the opposition in the attack are “totally unfounded and untrue”. However, the findings of investigation by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which included interviews with local eye-witnesses, directly contradict this claim. “It is not feasible that these groups could have crossed into Syria from where they did without the knowledge of the Turks,” Lama Fakih, the Syria and Lebanon researcher at HRW told the Telegraph. “One of the areas they used was an official border crossing that residents say has a Turkish military presence.”

Headline: Stocks dive as Russia abandons U.S. dollar

The stock market dive Friday that brought the Dow Jones Industrial Average to near 16,000 and the Nasdaq to below 4,000 might reflect an accelerated move by Russia away from the petrodollar in retaliation for the Obama administration’s threatened economic sanctions over Russia’s takeover of Crimea. Russia’s politically motivated attack on the petrodollar could trigger a major U.S. stock market collapse amid a global loss of confidence in the dollar caused by the Federal Reserve’s continuing policy of buying billions of dollars monthly in U.S. Treasury debt. The Fed hopes to stimulate the economy by artificially keeping already depressed interest rates at zero. With the Fed having limited options to address a panic caused by a bear market that could continue into next week, the risk of heavy selling of the U.S. dollar in international markets could raise prices in the increasingly import-dependent U.S. economy. Headline:  U.S. food prices up 19 percent in 2014; increasing inflation feared

Headline:  Beef prices reach highest level since 1987

Despite proclamations that the “economy is improving” and that “unemployment is down,” one thing is evident and that is – for a number of reasons – food costs are soaring, and as they do, those most vulnerable, like the poor, the elderly and those earning the lowest wages, are being hurt the most. “We are sure the weather is to blame but what happens when pent-up demand (from a frosty east coast emerging from its hibernation) bumps up against a drought-stricken west coast unable to plant to meet that demand? The spot price (not futures speculation-driven) of US Foodstuffs is the best performing asset in 2014 – up a staggering 19 percent,” notes Tyler Durden over at Zero Hedge. Sure, prices are up because California’s drought is limiting supply. Some have even said that commodities prices are being pushed upward by speculators on Wall Street; that may be happening to an extent. But there are a number of other factors that the government doesn’t report as having much of an effect at all on food prices (and remember, the government doesn’t include “volatile” food and energy prices in its monthly inflation reports).

Headline: US Condemns Russian Jet Passes Near Ship in Black Sea

Russia’s strategic missile force and air and space defence force have test-launched an inter-continental ballistic missile RS-24 with a multiple warhead from the Plesetsk space site. The missile blasted off from a mobile launcher at 10:40 Moscow time, the Defence Ministry’s strategic missile force spokesman, Colonel Igor Yegorov has said. “The main task of the launch was to confirm the reliability of a batch of missiles manufactured at the Votkinsk plant, in Udmurtia,” he said. The experimental warheads arrived at the designated area at the Kura testing range, in Kamchatka Peninsula. The objectives were achieved in full, Yegorov said. Meanwhile, The Pentagon says a Russian SU-24 fighter aircraft made 12 low-altitude, close-range passes near the USS Donald Cook in the Black Sea over the weekend. U.S. defense officials say the Russian jet had no missiles and did not respond to attempts to communicate during the passes which lasted 90 minutes. A U.S. military official said the Russian jet came within one mile of the U.S. vessel, flying at times below 500 feet. “This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with their national protocols and previous agreements on the professional interaction between our militaries,” Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said.

Headline:    Federal Judge Set To Issue Key Ohio Gay Marriage Ruling

A federal judge is expected to issue what could be the most sweeping ruling yet for gay marriage in Ohio by ordering the state to recognize the marriages of gay couples who wed in states that allow same-sex marriage. Judge Timothy Black indicated in court on April 4 that he expects to rule on Monday, ordering Ohio to recognize out-of-state gay marriages because the state’s ban violates constitutional rights and denies a fundamental right for people to marry the person of their choosing. His ruling would allow gay couples in Ohio to obtain the same benefits as any other married couple in the state, including property rights and the right to make some medical decisions for their partner. The ruling would not have a direct impact on any other state but Ohio.

April 11, 2014 – Deadly Yellow Fever Mosquito Resurfaces In Menlo Park California

A deadly mosquito that hasn’t been seen in the Bay Area since the 70s has been detected in San Mateo County. It’s the mosquito that spreads yellow fever, chicken fever, the dengue fever and other diseases. Officials call it “one of the worst most effective vectors of disease around the world.”

The mosquito is tiny and its bite is hardly noticeable. Unlike other mosquitos, it bites during the day.

April 13, 2014 – Deadly Virus’s Spread Raises Alarms in Mideast

Yemen reports first case of deadly MERS-coronavirus

Saudi Arabia on Sunday confirmed a surge of cases of a deadly virus in the kingdom over the past two weeks, even as it tried to counter criticism that it wasn’t doing enough to contain the outbreak. The United Arab Emirates over the weekend separately announced six confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, among paramedics there, one of whom died of the illness. The high number of cases among medical workers raised questions about how effective Arab Gulf governments have been in controlling the 1½-year-old outbreak.

Headline:  Third Nicaraguan tremor raises fears of quake to come

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake shook Nicaragua on Sunday night, the third quake to hit the Central American nation within a week. Seven homes collapsed but there have so far been no reports of any casualties. Officials said the quakes could be an indication that the geological fault line which runs underneath the capital, Managua, has been re-activated. Movement in the Estadia fault caused the 1972 quake which killed at least 5,000 people and devastated Managua. Nicaragua was struck by another two earthquakes on Thursday and Friday last week, raising fears a bigger quake may hit “within days”.

Headline: Volcanoes in Idaho

For the last two weeks, a cluster of nearly 20 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater has shook Custer County Idaho, 6 to 14 miles north-northwest of Challis Idaho. The strongest earthquakes have been a 4.9 magnitude quake around 6:00 p.m. MDT on Saturday April 12th and a 4.1 magnitude quake on Thursday April 10th around 6:20 a.m. MDT. There have been no reports of damage from these quakes, but residents in the area have reported items knocked off wall and shelves and have been felt from as far away as the Wood River region just north of Ketchum. The question most people have regarding the seismic activity over the last two weeks here near Challis and over in Yellowstone is this a precursor of a bigger event? Experts agree that the current activity doesn’t necessarily predict a much larger event but doesn’t mean one is not possible.

Headline: Rockies, Midwest bracing for wintry blast, lower temps

It may be spring, but winter is making a comeback. Up to two feet of snow is forecast for parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska by Sunday night, while several Midwestern states and the south central U.S. will receive a cold blast that could drive temperatures in some regions to record April lows. In Colorado, rain turned into snow as temperatures plunged from the low 70s Saturday. The front range of the Rocky Mountains was expected to get 8 to 16 inches of snow, with up to a half-foot in Denver, according to Denver TV station KUSA. Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper teens by Sunday night, with wind gusts of up to 25 mph. Heavy snow and strong winds closed a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie Sunday morning, where up to 8 inches were expected. A winter advisory has also been issued for southern Montana, with up to two feet of snow could fall in upper elevations, according to the National Weather Service. The cold front is expected to chill much of the Midwest by Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to near freezing and below freezing from Illinois to Texas, with temperatures dropping up to 20 degrees or more below normal.

Lithuania, Luxembourg and Sweden have explicitly backed Ukraine’s right to use force against pro-Russian separatists.  Lithuania’s UN envoy, Raimonda Murmokaite, and her Luxembourg counterpart, Olivier Maes, made the statements at a snap UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting in New York on Sunday (13 April). “When the existence of the state is put in danger, we support the right of Ukraine to defend itself in the face of external aggression and to tackle militant separatism and continuous provocations,” Murmokaite said. “Ukraine has the right to defend herself under article 51 of the United Nations charter,” Maes noted. Sweden, which is not on the UNSC, added through its foreign minister, Carl Bildt, on Twitter: “If illegal armed groups took over police stations and local government offices in Sweden we would use all our instruments to restore order.” The statements came hours before the expiry on Monday morning of an ultimatum issued by Ukraine’s caretaker government for armed pro-Russian separatists to cede control of government buildings in several cities in the eastern regions of Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Luhansk.

Headline:  Boko Haram Islamists in Nigeria kill 68 in village attacks, witnesses say

Suspected Islamist militants have killed at least 60 people in an attack on a village in north-east Nigeria, witnesses said. Boko Haram, which wants to carve an Islamic state out of Africa’s most populous country, split roughly equally between Christians and Muslims, has killed thousands since launching an uprising in the north-east over four years ago. Witnesses said the gunmen attacked the village of Kala Balge near the Cameroon border from several different quarters, shooting sporadically as terrified residents tried to flee. “I’m making efforts to evacuate my parents from the town,” said Ibrahim Bukar, 35, after escaping the attack. He said he counted 60 bodies scattered around after the insurgents left. Most have since been buried by the villagers, he said. In a separate assault, insurgents killed eight people at a teacher training college in the remote village of Dikwa, witnesses said. “They entered at night. They killed my brother Madu. The insurgents shot him in front of his wife and two sons. Then they shot them too,” Yakubu Saleh said via telephone.

Thousands of Yemenis have held a mass rally in the capital Sana’a, calling for the downfall of the Yemeni government, Press TV reports. Thousands of young protesters attended the demonstration on Sunday, saying the government has failed to meet the demands of people over the past years.“We are living in the worst conditions, below the poverty line. Therefore, we came out to call for the downfall of the government,” a Yemeni protester told Press TV. The demonstrators also accused many government officials of corruption. We demonstrated to “get rid of these corrupt people in power. They are spreading all types of corruption,” the protester added. The demonstrators also called for better job opportunities and a better economic situation.
