British Prime Minister David Cameron arrived in Israel on Wednesday for a two-day visit during which he will meet Israeli and Palestinian Authority (PA) leaders to discuss the Israel-PA “peace talks” and Iran.On Thursday, he was to meet with PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas in the Judean city of Bethlehem, Palestinian officials said.  It is Cameron’s first official visit since the Conservative leader took over as premier in 2010. British Prime Minister David Cameron addressed attempts to boycott Israel in his Knesset address Tuesday, and conveyed a clear message: “Britain opposes the boycott against Israel.” “Britain opposes boycotts,” he said. “Whether it is trade unions campaigning for the exclusion of Israelis or universities trying to stifle academic exchange, Israel’s place as a homeland for the Jewish people will never rest on hollow resolutions passed by amateur politicians,” Cameron said. “Delegitimizing the State of Israel is wrong. It’s abhorrent. And together we will defeat it,” he added. Despite Cameron’s declarations of support for the State of Israel, he also condemned Israel’s construction in Judea and Samaria. The “settlements,” as well as the Palestinian Authority (PA)’s ongoing incitement against Israel, are an obstacle for peace, according to Cameron.

Headline:  Bomb Explodes Outside Israeli Embassy in Cairo

A home-made bomb exploded in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing security sources and the website of the local Al-Ahram newspaper. Security sources said the explosion targeted a police car parked near the embassy, rather than the embassy itself. No one was hurt in the explosion, according to the report. In 2011, in the chaos that ensued in Egypt after the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak, the Israeli embassy came under attack by an angry mob who tore down the barrier around the embassy and broke in, proceeding to light parts of the embassy on fire and throw documents out the windows. Egyptian commandos rescued several security guards who were trapped inside at the last minute, after intervention by President Barack Obama. The building has not been used by the Israeli embassy since that incident.

In the last few minutes Gaza-based terrorists have fired a salvo of rockets at towns in southern Israel. Residents of communities including the Eshkol Region, as well as the towns of Sderot, Netivot and Ofakim, have reported numerous sirens and impact sounds. In the last few moments Islamic Jihad (SEE NEXT STORY) has claimed responsibility for firing the rockets. “We know that 25 rockets were fired in close succession all over the south,” a senior Israeli official told AFP. Of those, at least five were launched at Sderot; the Iron Dome has stopped some of them from making an impact on Israeli soil, according to the latest updates. Within the last ten minutes, the count has been updated to 30 rockets, according to Israeli media. No injuries have been reported. At least of one of the communities near Gaza has been damaged by rocket fire, according to the latest news reports, though it has not been confirmed which one. Residents are being advised to stay in protective shelters until further updates warrant; the Israeli Police has raised the alert level in throughout the Negev in response to the rocket fire. IAF helicopters are patrolling the skies near Gaza now, as “security forces and the IDF are weighing the appropriate response,” according to Walla! News. The rockets are likely retaliation for IAF airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday, which killed three terrorists. Headline: Jordanian parliament threatens to topple gov’t if Israel not punished

The Jordanian parliament has given an ultimatum: comply with demands to punish Israel by next Tuesday or else it will vote to topple the government. The lower house of Jordan’s parliament, incensed over the shooting death of a Jordanian judge by Israeli soldiers, demanded Wednesday that the government free a soldier who murdered Israeli schoolgirls in 1997. In a non-binding resolution, all 150 members of the lower house said “we demand that the government release Jordanian soldier Ahmad Dakamseh from jail.” Dakamseh had opened fire on a group of Israeli schoolgirls as they visited Baqura, a scenic peninsula on the Jordan River near the Israeli border. He killed seven of the girls and wounded five more, as well as a teacher, and was sentenced to life in prison. “We also demand that the government expel the Israeli ambassador in Amman and recall the Jordanian ambassador in Israel in response to the killing of Jordanian judge Raed Zeiter,” the resolution said. Headline: Syria: Jihadists Execute 22 People in Aleppo

Jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) executed at least 22 people, including 12 rebels, in the north of the country on Tuesday, a monitoring group told the AFP news agency. “ISIS members executed at least 22 persons with firearms or knives, after taking control of Shuyukh outside the town of Jarabulus” in Aleppo province, Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said. Among those killed were “at least 12 armed rebels,” he added. The jihadist ISIS seized Jarabulus, near the northern border with Turkey, from the rebels last month. Since it joined the civil war in Syria, ISIS has been accused of several human rights abuses, including torturing and murdering prisoners, among them children and teenagers, and forcing Druze men to convert to Islam or die. SIS has been targeted by rival rebel groups. In recent weeks, three powerful rebel alliances – among them Islamist groups – have teamed up to fight ISIS, which they have warned is even worse than Bashar Al-Assad’s regime.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Tuesday that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had failed to fulfill his campaign promises to allow greater freedom of expression, Reuters reported. Ban also noted the sharp rise in executions since Rouhani’s election. He made the comments in a report to the UN Human Rights Council. “The new administration has not made any significant improvement in the promotion and protection of freedom of expression and opinion, despite pledges made by the president during his campaign and after his swearing in,” Ban said in the report, according to Reuters.

Washington’s decision to provide financial aid to the coup-appointed government of Ukraine goes against the US laws, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said, urging American politicians to think about the consequences of supporting the radicals in Kiev. Ukraine’s ousted president, Viktor Yanukovich, said on Tuesday that the US plans to loan $1 billion to the country’s new authorities are illegal. “Indeed, in accordance with the amendments introduced to the 1961 law (Foreign Assistance Act) a few years ago the provision of foreign assistance is prohibited to ‘the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree.’ The relevant provision is contained in 22 US Code § 8422,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “Thus, by all criteria the provision of funds to the illegitimate [Kiev] regime, which seized power by force, is unlawful and goes beyond the boundaries of the US legal system,” the statement added. The Crimean parliament adopted on Tuesday “declaration of independence” ahead of the scheduled March 16 referendum, in which the residents of the Black Sea peninsula will to choose to remain part of Ukraine or join Russia. “We, the members of the parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Sevastopol City Council, with regard to the charter of the United Nations and a whole range of other international documents and taking into consideration the confirmation of the status of Kosovo by the United Nations International Court of Justice on July, 22, 2010, which says that unilateral declaration of independence by a part of the country doesn’t violate any international norms, make this decision,” says the text of the declaration, published by Russia TV website. Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov said Monday that preparations for the the southern Ukrainian region to become part of Russia are already underway. Crimea was flooded with Russian troops following the fall of the government in the capital, Kiev, last month and a referendum to decide whether the region will become part of Russia will take place on March 16. The peninsula will be ready to begin using Russian law within a couple of months of a pro-secession vote, and the local Finance Ministry is already working on a roadmap for switching from the Ukrainian currency, the hryvnia, to the Russian ruble, Aksyonov said in an interview with RIA Novosti. The referendum in Crimea, where ethnic Russians make up about 60 percent of the population, is widely expected to return a favourable result that will pave the way for annexation by Moscow. Aksyonov also promised that Ukrainian would cease to be an official language if Crimea joined Russia. Western nations have said they will not recognize the vote as legitimate. But the move might be used as an attempt to ease tensions with Crimea existing as a self-proclaimed state without Russia moving quickly to incorporate it into its territory, Associated Press reported.

Headline:  Ukraine president: Russia ‘is refusing crisis talks’

Russia’s leaders are refusing all negotiations with their Ukrainian counterparts, Ukraine’s acting President Oleksandr Turchynov has said. He told AFP news agency that Ukraine would not intervene militarily in Crimea, even though a secession referendum there was a “sham”. Meanwhile interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is travelling to the US to meet President Barack Obama. On Thursday he is due to address the UN Security Council in New York. He said that Sunday’s referendum in Crimea – in which people on the peninsula will decide whether or not to become part of Russia – was “a provocation” that would be boycotted by most people. “The Russian forces don’t intend to hold a referendum, they’re just going to falsify the results,” he said. The president said that at the same time the Russian government was refusing to enter into any dialogue with Ukraine.

 A company has developed glasses that will give users not only an interactive, virtual 3-D display, but also the ability to spot individual faces among a crowd of people, something the company says will aid police in predicting and thwarting “future” crimes. Capitalizing on the popularity of Apple’s soon-to-be-released techie eyewear, Atheer Labs has created a set of eyeglasses that give users “immersive 3-D,” surrounding them “with information wherever [they] turn and look..” Similar to Google Glass, the Atheer One, as the glasses are dubbed, connects to the web, streams videos, and can act as a virtual calendar and organizer. But in a recent interview with CBS Miami, the company’s founder, Allen Yang, touted the glasses as a new crime fighting tool that will give police eerie Minority Report-like future crime awareness. “In the optimal scenario, [police] can actually get an alert when they’re patrolling on the streets and they can prevent something from happening before even the event happens,” Yang said. And there’s no solace for people wishing to opt out of a face scan. Unlike other facial recognition software, Yang says the Atheer One’s technology will be so advanced it’ll be able to produce an image of a person’s face even when the face is distorted or only 60 percent visible. While being immersed in a virtual 3-D world may sound like fun to some, Atheer One is yet another attempt by the tech industry to make Big Brother seem trendy. Astronomers have detected bizarre swarms of comets around a nearby star, icy bodies that may have been trapped by the powerful gravitational pull of a huge, undiscovered exoplanet. An international team of scientists spotted an enormous belt of carbon monoxide (CO) gas in the disk of debris surrounding Beta Pictoris, a young star that lies 63 light-years from Earth. The source of the gas is probably comets, and lots of them; one large comet must be getting destroyed every five minutes to keep replenishing the CO, which is destroyed by starlight, researchers said. The swarms are likely corralled by a big, Jupiter-like alien planet orbiting far from Beta Pictoris, which is already known to host one gas giant (known as Beta Pictoris b) much closer in.
