Yesterday I told you more earthquakes are coming soon. After I left you that message around 2:30 pm Pacific time there was another huge quake which was a 6.2 in Japan and now I just saw there was still another strong quake that just hit this morning in Guatemala . The red flag is up and see how many quakes were reported yesterday at this site.

After I posted the red flag early today I received a call from my assistant who wanted to let me know
that what I had warned about was right on the mark because the news just reported there was a massive
earthquake that just hit Japan . This quake was a 7.0!

All of you who keep coming to my site have heard me over and over again warn you to look for the huge earthquakes because in my heart I know these are the things Christ wants me to remind you of. The “great earthquakes” are coming and more are on the way. Trust in what the Holy Spirit is showing us and even if you are not a believer yet, stay tuned because you are about to witness some huge earthquakes. When you see them Christ will remind you He warned you of these specific things. Today Japan witnessed again first hand one of these “great earthquakes”
Update 16:22 UTC : Sadly enough we have to report that at least 3 people have been killed in the earthquake(s). Scientists warn for strong to very strong aftershocks (something that happened already). 12 people have been injured and 1 person was unconscious. 600 people had to be evacuated from their houses.

There is no way America can survive much longer by giving millions of America all their entitlements they have been getting for free. The number of people getting these entitlements has gotten so large that those working to pay for all the free programs can not sustain them much longer. So, go ahead and elect Hillary because as long as the USA is the main world power I can not see how the Antichrist can take his role as head of the entire world economy. However, when you see the U.S. dollar die, when you see the U.S. reserve currency fall America will find itself holding money that isn’t worth the paper it was printed on. Just ask people living in Greece, Venezuela, or Puerto Rico what their currency looks like as their debt is about to bring them all crashing down. What have you seen from Greece, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico? You have seen people in despair, people running on the banks and, riots. When America crashes this is what you will see in America.

The public reenactment of the Passover Sacrifice, which has become a popular spring-time event over the past few years, will be getting closer to the actual site of the Temple Mount next week. This year’s reenactment may prove to be an even more festive event than ever, as many new participants are planning to arrive from all parts of the country. The past Paschal Reenactments were held in a school courtyard which became more cramped each year due to the growing popularity of the important event. For this reason the organizers decided to move the event this year to the more spacious location of Mitzpeh Beit Orot, between Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives, near Emek Tzurim, which faces Judaism’s holiest and most relevant site for the occasion, the Temple Mount. The reenactment will take place next Monday, just four days before the prescribed time of the Paschal Offering.

Headline: Pentagon wants drones to replace some US troops in Sinai
The Pentagon wants to cut the number of US peacekeeping troops in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, partly because of the growing threat from ISIS group, an official said Tuesday. About 700 US troops participate in a UN operation established after Israel and Egypt signed a 1979 peace deal and agreed for a Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission to monitor compliance. The mission has historically been somewhat low-key, but in recent months attacks from ISIS militants have put forces on a state of constant high alert. In September for instance, a roadside bombing injured six peacekeepers including four Americans. Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis said the Pentagon remains “fully committed” to the MFO mission but wants to use drones and other high-tech tools to assume some of the riskier work. “I don’t think anyone is talking about a wholesale withdrawal, I think we are just going to look at the number of people we have there and see if there are functions that can be automated,” Davis said. Defense Secretary Ash Carter and other US officials have begun “formal conversations” with Israel and Egypt, Davis added. US officials are also considering moving some US and international troops into a camp in the southern Sinai, far from their current base — called El-Gorah — near the Gaza Strip.

He will be in the awkward position of having to either veto a resolution despite agreeing with its content, or to abstain or support it, thus further alienating America’s staunchest ally in the Middle East and allowing political opponents at home to portray his party as anti-Israel. The plan to bring another anti-settlement resolution to the Security Council is thus slated to become a veritable litmus test of US-Israel relations, nearly half a year before America elects a new president. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to use his trip later this month to the UN in New York — where is slated to attend a signing ceremony for the historic climate agreement reached in Paris in December — to launch yet another attempt to get the UN to condemn Israel’s actions in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Headline: Sidon bomb raises fears of jihadist escalation
An explosion just outside the southern Lebanese city of Sidon on Tuesday killed a local Palestinian security official amid tensions between the main Palestinian faction and extremist groups. The blast instantly killed the official, a member of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah group. Lebanese officials identified the man as Fathi Zeidan, Fatah’s security chief in the refugee camp of Mieh Mieh, which is located near Sidon. The explosion occurred after a security meeting in Mieh Mieh that was attended by Zeidan, during which the bomb was believed to have been placed inside his car. The bomb weighed nearly 1 kg and the force of the blast destroyed Zeidan’s car and scattered his remains. The Lebanese Armed Forces issued a statement, saying the bomb was placed inside the BMW and adding that an investigation was underway.

According to sources in Syria, ISIS controls 90% of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus. Syria Headline: ISIS fighters capture several towns, villages north of Aleppo from rebels
Syria Headline: Jabhat Al-Nusra abandons several fronts to fight Hezbollah in Aleppo After three days of fighting with rebels in Aleppo that started in the northern suburbs and spread to towns and villages north of the Syrian city, ISIS fighters captured the areas of Tel Ahmar, Tel Shaeer and Shaheen farms on Wednesday. The rebels from the al-Sham organization suffered heavy losses in the fighting, with more than 70 dead and over 150 wounded who were mostly left behind and taken prisoner by ISIS. The terrorist organization also captured the village of al-Raee, located on the Turkish border about 30 kilometers from Aleppo. ISIS is now trying to capture the city of al-Bab on the road from Aleppo to the Syrian border city of Jarablus in an attempt to create a supply corridor east of Aleppo and achieve military superiority in the area. Jarablus is a main point of entry for foreign fighters who come to Syria to join the terrorist organization.

Syria Headline: Russian aircraft shot down despite ‘President-S’ system
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on April 12 “the crash of a Russian Mi-28H attack helicopter near the city of Homs“ the previous night. The two pilots were killed in the crash, and their bodies were recovered by Russian special forces who transferred them to Hmeimim airbase in northern Syria. The ministry asserted that “the helicopter was not shot down” but debkafile’s intelligence and aviation sources doubt that claim. The helicopter that crashed in Homs was the fourth Russian-made military aircraft to be shot down during the last 30 days by advanced shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles possessed by the Nusra Front, ISIS and other groups of fighters. The speculation that terrorist organizations in Syria, and apparently in Iraq, possess such missiles capable of overcoming the defenses of Russian aircraft became reality when the Mi-28H helicopter was shot down on April 11. The aircraft is equipped with the most advanced defensive system of its kind, the President-S, which is resistant to active and passive jamming.

Syria Headline: Syrian Air Force destroys ISIL’s largest training camp in southern Deir Ezzor
The Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) carried out a special mission today inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s southern countryside, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL) largest training camp at the city of Mohassan. According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Air Force destroyed the entire ISIL training camp and its nearby barracks that housed as many as 200 terrorists at its peak. The number of dead terrorists as a result of the airstrike is unknown. A hundred members of Iraq’s parliament held a sit-in on Wednesday, demanding that the volatile country’s president, prime minister and parliamentary speaker all be removed. The parliamentary sit-in comes after a vote on a cabinet reshuffle the day before on Tuesday turned chaotic, amid outrage over how Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s promises to reform the government appear unlikely to happen, reports The New Arab. Abadi had promised to form a technocratic government based on qualified candidates, and not one controlled by political blocs in a sectarian quota system according to which ministerial posts and seats are allocated along Shia, Sunni and Kurdish sectarian lines. But on Monday the prime minister signed a pledge with the heads of leading political parties, promising to consult them in forming a new government in what critics called a declaration to keep the status quo. In the shadow of popular protests on the street, opposing MPs on Tuesday charged that the new lineup of ministers presented by Abadi was merely a continuation of the sectarian quota system which has led to rampant corruption. The MPs called for an emergency meeting on Wednesday to explore ways of removing Abadi, the president and parliamentary speaker, and on Wednesday staged their sit-in to demand a change in the government.

Iraq Headline: Islamic State destroys gates of Nineveh near Mosul
The Islamic State destroyed a 2,000-year-old ancient structure near the Iraqi city of Mosul called the Mashqi Gate, also known as the Gate of God. The Mashqi Gate in the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh dated back to the 7th century B.C. during the rule of Sennacherib, former king of Assyria. Nineveh was once one of the largest cities in the world and is referenced in the Bible. The Islamic State reportedly used military equipment to destroy the gate. A source from the British Institute for the Study of Iraq confirmed to The Independent that the gate had been attacked. The militant Islamist group has made a habit of razing and destroying cities, and ancient cultural icons in the territories it acquires. In the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria, the Islamic State immediately began demolishing ancient ruins considered among the world’s most treasured when it seized control in May last year.

Iraq Headline: ISIS attack Iraqi Army in western Makhmour
At least six Iraqi soldiers were wounded in an assault carried out by the Islamic State (ISIS) militants in western Makhmour, a Kurdish Peshmerga official told Rudaw on Wednesday. “On Wednesday afternoon ISIS launched an assault on the Iraqi army in Nasr village, northern Makhmour front,” Sirwan Barzani, the Peshmerga commander of the Gwer-Makhmour region, told Rudaw. “ISIS used a car bomb for the attack and wounded six Iraqi soldiers in the process,” Barzani explained. The Peshmerga commander said fierce fighting between ISIS and Iraqi army lasted an hour-and-a-half. Last week the Iraqi army announced that the anticipated offensive to liberate al-Nasr village from ISIS had been postponed. Bashdar Aziz, a deputy commander in the Iraqi Army, said a multitude of problems were undermining their ability to effectively launch an offensive to retake al-Nasr. Despite the fact they are being provided with air support by the US-led coalition and artillery fire support from a US Marine base on the Makhmour front.

Headline: 6 soldiers, 30 Kurdish rebels killed in Turkey
Six Turkish soldiers and 30 Kurdish militants have been killed in the past 24 hours in attacks and clashes across Turkey’s turbulent southeast region, security sources and the army said on Tuesday. An estimated 57 people, including eight civilians, were wounded in the attacks, they said. The security sources said operations in Sirnak province and in neighboring Iraq and Syria had been stepped up and that gunfire and explosions could be heard in the area where earlier one soldier was killed and three others wounded. A soldier was also killed and four wounded in an explosion in Daglica, a village in Hakkari province near the Iranian border, during clashes with the PKK, the army said. Two soldiers were also killed during clashes with the PKK in the border town of Nusaybin near Syria, the army said in a statement later on Tuesday. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu put the death toll from a car bomb attack overnight that targeted a Turkish gendarmerie base in the town of Hani at two. The army said 47 people, including eight civilians, had been wounded in that attack.

Afghanistan’s top defense official has warned that al Qaeda — the reason the United States first invaded Afghanistan — is “very active” and a “big threat” in the country. A senior U.S. official said they were concerned about al Qaeda leaders in remote areas of the country and there may be many more core operatives in Afghanistan than previously thought. The warnings of al Qaeda’s resurgence come as Afghanistan faces perhaps the most significant summer fighting season in decades, with government security forces facing huge internal challenges, the Taliban both gaining ground and building links to al Qaeda, and ISIS increasing its footprint in the country.

Headline: Speaker of Libya’s eastern parliament lashes out at UN envoy
A car bomb attack on a security post in the Libyan city of Misrata Wednesday left one dead and four wounded, local government and medical sources said. The municipal council of Misrata, 200 kilometers (120 miles) east of Tripoli, said the post in the Saddada area was the target of “a cowardly terrorist attack” that killed one guard. It said two of the four other wounded guards were in serious condition. A medical source at Misrata hospital confirmed the casualty toll from the bombing, for which there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

ISIS claimed victory Wednesday for the Obama administration’s summer shift in allowing hostage negotiations with terrorists, posting an article in the radical Islamist group’s online magazine declaring, “it’s clear that violence is the only message they will respond to.” The article, in the new issue of the Islamic State’s “Dabiq” magazine released Wednesday, is attributed to ISIS hostage and British photojournalist John Cantlie. Titled “The Blood of Shame,” it’s illustrated with a picture of President Obama and side-by-side covers of two newspapers: The Daily Telegraph, showing an ISIS executioner slitting a hostage’s throat, and The New York Daily News, showing Obama smiling in a golf cart.

Headline: Explosion kills three in crowded Somali market
At least eight people were killed Monday and early Tuesday in U.S. airstrikes targeting al-Shabab militants in southern Somalia. Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said unmanned drones were used in the attacks. Witnesses and officials told VOA’s Somali service that five militants and three civilians were killed in the airstrikes, which hit the al-Shabab-controlled village of Yontoy in Somalia’s Lower Juba region. The Pentagon spokesman put the death toll at 12 militants. He described the airstrikes as “self-defense,” saying the targets of the attack “were posing an imminent threat to U.S. personnel.” It was not immediately known whether any al-Shabab leaders were hit. A high-ranking security official in Kismayo told VOA that al-Shabab militants were seen making “some movements” before the airstrike.

Jihadist groups operating in the West African country of Mali have launched a spate of attacks in the northern portion of the country in recent days. Many of these assaults targeted UN forces operating there, however, one targeted French special forces who are in the country as part of France’s Operation Barkhane. The French special forces soldier, identified as Mickael Poo-Sing by the French military, was killed near the northern town of Tessalit yesterday when his vehicle hit an IED. Three other French soldiers were killed in the blast. While this is the only attack in the area that targeted French forces, it is not the only ambush to occur in recent days. In addition to the IED on the French in Tessalit, a UN vehicle also hit a roadside bomb just north of Aguelhok reportedly killing two. While in the city of Aguelhok, a Chadian soldier stepped on a landmine according to local sources. Days earlier on April 9, Ansar Dine, which is a front for al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), claimed two bombings on the Aguelhok-Tessalit axis just north of the city of Kidal. The first, which occurred on April 7, the Tuareg jihadist group claimed targeting Chadian forces with an IED near the town of Taghlit. The next day, according to Ansar Dine, the jihadists did the same to an unspecified UN vehicle in the same area. Jihadist forces also directed their attention to civilian enemies, as well. Near the Algerian border town of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, a Tessalit government official was reportedly assassinated by jihadists two days ago.

Jihadists seeking to align with ISIS execute two hostages, as fighting between gov’t, Muslim separatists rages on. Philippine terrorists that want to ally with Islamic State jihadists have beheaded two local hostages, police said Wednesday. Police on the southern island of Mindanao recovered the decapitated corpses of the two men on Tuesday, nine days after they were taken, said the police chief of Lanao del Sur province. “Salvador Hanobas and Jemark Hanobas were beheaded by their abductors,” Senior Superintendent Rustom Duran told reporters by telephone. “Locals brought the heads and the torsos to the mayor’s office.” It was unclear if the two victims were related. Duran said the kidnappers belonged to an Islamic terrorist group that battled government forces for a week in February, leaving three soldiers dead and forcing 20,000 people to flee their homes. Police found black flags identical to those flown by Islamic State jihadists in Iraq and Syria in the fighters’ hideout in the remote Mindanao town of Butig.

Headline: 4th Kashmiri Dies in Clashes With Indian Troops Amid Curfew
Indian authorities on Wednesday imposed a curfew in parts of Kashmir to stop fresh anti-India demonstrations following the killings of four people by Indian troops and a general strike called by separatists. The latest death occurred when a man was hit on his head by a tear gas shell fired by security forces and died in a hospital in the northern village of Drugmulla, police said. He was part of hundreds of rock-throwing protesters who clashed with government forces for a second straight day Wednesday as authorities enforced a curfew in Srinagar, Handwara and neighboring villages. The clashes occurred even as shops and schools were closed and streets deserted due to a security lockdown and a daylong strike call by separatist groups. Mehbooba Mufti, who recently took over as the top elected official in the Indian portion of Kashmir, said the killings would have a “negative impact” on her government’s peace efforts in the region. Police said a 70-year-old woman, who was hit by gunfire and was among a dozen injured during massive clashes between residents and government forces on Tuesday, died in a hospital Wednesday. Two others also died from army gunfire. The protest and clashes in the northern town of Handwara erupted Tuesday following an allegation by residents that an Indian army soldier tried to sexually assault a teenage schoolgirl.

China claims almost all the South China Sea and areas of the East China Sea, angering neighbours who have competing claims. It has also been reclaiming land. Experts say satellite images of the reclamation work could indicate that China may be steadily militarising the islands it is creating or expanding.

Two Russian warplanes with no visible weaponry flew simulated attack passes near a U.S. guided missile destroyer in the Baltic Sea Tuesday, a U.S. official said, describing it as one of the most aggressive interactions in recent memory. The repeated flights by the Sukhoi SU-24 warplanes, which also flew near the ship a day earlier, were so close they created wake in the water, with 11 passes, the official said. A Russian KA-27 Helix helicopter also made seven passes around the USS Donald Cook, taking pictures. The nearest Russian territory was about 70 nautical miles away in its enclave of Kaliningrad, which sits between Lithuania and Poland. “They tried to raise them (the Russian aircraft) on the radio but they did not answer,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, adding the U.S. ship was in international waters.

Headline: Yellow fever spreads to DR Congo, kills 21
An outbreak of yellow fever has killed 21 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) says, linking some cases to an outbreak in neighbouring Angola. In a statement, the WHO said the deaths had occurred in January to March, with 151 suspected cases recorded. There was, it said, a “serious risk of further spread of the disease” in DRC. The acute, mosquito-borne viral disease has killed 225 people in Angola and infected about 1,600 there. The WHO said the DRC health authorities had set up a national committee to respond to the outbreak, including “screening and sanitary controls” on the country’s borders.

A death in Illinois has been linked to the same strain of bacteria that has caused an unprecedented outbreak of infection in Wisconsin and one case in Michigan. The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Tuesday an Illinois resident died after contracting an infection from the bacterium Elizabethkingia. The department’s been working with federal and state health officials to investigate the outbreak. The Illinois resident who died was from the northern part of the state and had underlying health conditions. Wisconsin is reporting 57 confirmed cases, including 18 deaths. Michigan reports one confirmed case, including one death.

The Church of Norway voted at its annual conference on Monday to allow gay marriage, with the Christian body joining the French Protestant Church, the U.S. Episcopal and Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denominations, among others, in now supporting same-sex unions. Of the 115 delegates at the Lutheran denomination’s synod, 88 backed embracing gay marriage, while also including a caveat for priests who do not wish to take part in same-sex weddings that allows them to opt out of doing so, Reuters reported. The denomination itself called the institutional change “a historic decision that marks a shift in the church’s teaching on marriage,” with the vote reportedly receiving a standing ovation from most of the participants in attendance.

Headline: Astronomers in South Africa discover mysterious alignment of black hole
Deep radio imaging by researchers in the University of Cape Town and University of the Western Cape, in South Africa, has revealed that supermassive black holes in a region of the distant universe are all spinning out radio jets in the same direction – most likely a result of primordial mass fluctuations in the early universe. The astronomers publish their results in a new paper in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The new result is the discovery – for the first time – of an alignment of the jets of galaxies over a large volume of space, a finding made possible by a three-year deep radio imaging survey of the radio waves coming from a region called ELAIS-N1 using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) in India. The jets are produced by the supermassive black holes at the centres of these galaxies, and the only way for this alignment to exist is if supermassive black holes are all spinning in the same direction, says Prof Andrew Russ Taylor, joint UWC/UCT SKA Chair, Director of the recently-launched Inter-University Institute for Data Intensive Astronomy, and principal author of the Monthly Notices study.

Twenty-four new deaths were reported from a heatwave in India’s eastern Odisha state, bringing the nationwide total this week to 135, officials said Wednesday. The deaths were caused by sunstroke, as temperatures of 105.5 degrees Fahrenheit were recorded Tuesday at 19 locations across the state. The highest was 121.1 degrees Fahrenheit in the town of Titilargth. The temperature Monday in Bhubaneswar, a city of 800,000 and Odisha’s capital, rose to 114.44 degrees Fahrenheit. The heatwave extends across much of northern India, and traditional April rains have been delayed by the unusually high temperatures.

Israel has launched dozens of strikes in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced. It marks the first time that the leader has acknowledged such attacks against arms transfers to Lebanon’s Hezbollah. “We act when we need to act, including here across the border, with dozens of strikes meant to prevent Hezbollah from obtaining game-changing weaponry,” Netanyahu said while on a visit to the occupied Golan Heights on Monday, as quoted by Reuters. The prime minister failed to specify what kind of strikes Israel had conducted in Syria. Although Israel welcomed a cessation of hostilities in Syria in February, it has indicated that it could still launch attacks there if it sees a threat from the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, whose fighters have been allied with Syrian President Bashar Assad.

While the Turkish Foreign Ministry last Friday vowed that a rapprochement deal would be signed with Israel in the next meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said Monday that Ankara won’t drop its demand to end the naval blockade on Gaza. “What happens in Gaza is unacceptable, the occupation by Israel must end,” stated Kalin in a press conference, adding that no final text on a normalization deal has been reached yet, and the talks will continue in the coming weeks. Kalin added that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is to visit Turkey this week, while Saudi Arabia’s King Salman is also to be in Turkey starting from Monday. In return Erdogan will visit Turkey and Saudi Arabia next week. Kalin’s statement on Gaza would seem to indicate that an agreement remains distant, despite the Turkish Foreign Ministry statement last Friday that came a day after a meeting in London. Israeli diplomatic officials told Arutz Sheva that no significant progress was made in the meeting, countering the Turkish Foreign Ministry claim. ***SEE ALSO EGYPT BELOW
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has established the body’s first constitutional court, a move seen as an attempt to strengthen his rule and marginalize Hamas opposition. Abbas issued the presidential decree last week and has since appointed nine judges to the court, the last of whom will be sworn in on Monday, according to Reuters. While Abbas’s Fatah party is presenting the move as a step toward creating a functioning state, critics say Abbas has only appointed Fatah jurists to the court and is trying to consolidate his 13-year hold on power. “Neither the president, nor any of the leaders [of Fatah], has a private agenda regarding this issue,” said Osama al-Qawasmi, the spokesman for Fatah in the West Bank, according to Reuters. “The prime task of the constitutional court is to monitor laws. By the law, it is a completely independent body and we have full confidence in it.” PA officials say the court will have supremacy over all the lower courts, cabinet decisions, parliament resolutions and presidential decrees, according to Palestinian media. But rival Palestinian faction Hamas rejected the establishment of the court and said it will not recognize its authority.

Headline: Palestinian Authority’s Abbas suspends funds to PLO terror group
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has decided to cut off PLO funds to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror group, a leader of the PFLP said on Monday. The Marxist PFLP is the second largest group in the PLO after Abbas’s ruling Fatah faction. Like other PLO factions, the PFLP has been receiving monthly funds from the PLO’s Palestinian National Fund. Abbas’s decision came in response to the PFLP’s recent criticism of Abbas’s policies, especially with regards to security coordination with Israel, Palestinian sources in Ramallah said. A senior PFLP leader recently called on Abbas to resign or face being fired by the PLO leadership. The PFLP has also strongly condemned Abbas’s decision to dispatch a delegation to offer condolences over the death of Brig.-General Munir Amar, the head of the Civil Administration in the West Bank, who was killed in a plane crash in the Galilee last month.

Hours into a UN-brokered truce on Monday, heavy artillery fire, gun battles and airstrikes were reported in several parts of Yemen, Reuters said. The ceasefire is meant to allow the start of peace talks in the country, and the capital Sanaa spent a rare night without airstrikes. According to the report, the Egyptian government informed Israel of the developments regarding the redrawing of the maritime border, which included Egypt’s ceding of sovereignty over the Red Sea islands of Sanafir and Tiran to the Saudis, and the influence it may have on Egypt and Israel’s 1979 peace treaty. Further, the report states, Egypt updated Israel on new understandings reached between the Saudi defense minister and Egyptian prime minister who signed an agreement which, if approved by Egypt’s parliament, will obligate Riyadh to honor all of Egypt’s commitments in its peace treaty with Israel, including the presence of the international peacekeeping force on the islands of Sanafir and Tiran, and freedom of maritime movement in the Gulf of Aqaba.

Syria Headline: IS retakes northern town of al-Rai from rebels
Islamic State (IS) militants have retaken a strategically important town in northern Syria from rebel forces, activists and the jihadist group say. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that al-Rai was overrun early on Monday after intense fighting. Al-Rai is close to the border with Turkey and is a key supply route into IS-held territory in Aleppo province. IS had lost the town last week in an assault by rebels fighting under the banner of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). But four days later, IS was able to regain control of al-Rai and six villages to the west, according to the Syrian Observatory (SOHR), a UK-based monitoring group, and the Local Co-ordination Committees (LCC), an opposition activist network. IS also issued a statement confirming it had driven rebels out of al-Rai. “The fact that the rebels could not hold on to al-Rai shows that it is impossible to maintain an advance against IS without adequate air cover,” the Syrian Observatory’s director, Rami Abdul Rahman, told the AFP news agency. ***See also Turkey below

The Russian military General Staff said on Monday that al-Nusra militants are massing around the Syrian city of Aleppo and are planning a large-scale offensive. Sergei Rudskoy, head of the General Staff’s main operations command, said the militants were planning to cut off the road between Aleppo and the Syrian capital of Damascus. “Al-Nusra and allied rebel groups are waging three synchronized offensives” on front lines in Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP. More than 100 Shiite militiamen have been killed and wounded in an effort to reclaim the village of Bashir south of Kirkuk from Islamic State (ISIS) militants said a local official. Around “fifteen [Shiite militia] Hashd al-Shaabi members have been killed, 90 wounded and another 20 missing,” in Monday’s failed offensive into Bashir Nazm Kahiya, a provincial official in Kirkuk, told Rudaw. When the assault began, Kahiya claimed, Hashd al-Shaabi militants made advances into the village “but later they were defeated after being ambushed by ISIS militants.” “The Hashd al-Shaabai militants have retreated from Bashir to the surrounding areas from where they launched an assault to recapture the village in the first place,” he explained.

Headline: Turkish cabinet meets in strife-torn southeast as fighting rages
Fighting raged on Monday between Turkish security forces and Kurdish militants in southeast Turkey as the cabinet held an unprecedented meeting on the edge of the restive region to discuss ways of rebuilding its shattered economy. The Turkish army said 39 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) had been killed in clashes in four towns across the region over the weekend, adding to a death toll that has risen sharply since the collapse of a ceasefire last July. Gunfire rang out overnight and smoke rose from neighborhoods in Yuksekova in Hakkari province, which neighbors Iran, security sources said. The army said 20 PKK militants had been killed on Saturday and 19 more on Sunday in the towns of Nusaybin, Sirnak, Silopi and Yuksekova. It did not say whether any members of the military or security forces had also been killed.

The missile tests are not covered by the U.S.-Iranian nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, agreed to this summer; however, the U.S. and its allies contend the launches go against a U.N. Security Council Resolution. Iran denies the launches violate the U.N. resolution. Some Western experts fear the missiles could one day be used to deliver nuclear payloads. But Foreign Minister Javad Zarif rejected Tehran making any concessions to the international community on the missile topic.

A Taliban suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed at least 12 army recruits on a bus in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, officials said, hours after a similar attack killed two people in the capital Kabul. The latest blast hit a bus in the Sorkh Rud district of Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan. Twelve bodies and at least 38 wounded had been taken to the main hospital in Jalalabad, the principal city in eastern Afghanistan, hospital chief Ihsanullah Shinwari told Reuters. The number of casualties was expected to rise, several officials said. “The suicide bomber was on a three-wheel motorcycle and targeted new army recruits who were heading to Kabul for training,” said a police official, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to discuss matters concerning the Afghan army. Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri confirmed one of the ministry’s buses carrying army recruits had been attacked but put the number of wounded at 26. “It was a crowded area and it is hard to say now how many of them were from the defense ministry,” Waziri said.
Hours earlier, a bomb hit a mini-bus carrying Education Ministry workers in eastern Kabul, killing two people and wounding seven, the ministry said. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Islamist group had carried out the attack outside Jalalabad. However, no group had claimed responsibility for the Kabul attack.

Four Libyan oilfields have closed and employees in a fifth are striking over fears of attacks from ISIS, a military source and media said Monday. “Four oilfields were evacuated in the oil basin in Merada”, 800 kilometres (500 miles) southeast of the capital Tripoli, the military source said. The Bayda, Tibisti, Samah and Waha oilfields were evacuated on Saturday, according to the LANA news agency close to the internationally recognised parliament in the country’s east. The evacuation came after “the collapse of security and low daily production rate due to difficult security conditions”, said the source, who is part of a brigade protecting the oilfields that is loyal to the recognized parliament.

The first known use of a “suicide drone” was reportedly believed to have taken place during the recent skirmishes between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Azerbaijani forces might have deployed an Israeli-made drone that was loaded with explosives and crashed into its desired target in lieu of using a missile. The Armenian defense ministry said that alleged “suicide drone” slammed into a bus carrying Armenian soldiers, killing seven people. The drone, known as a Harop, destroys its target by ramming into it. The device can be remotely piloted or it can find targets based on radar or radio wave emissions, according to its website. The drone can be fired from the back of a vehicle and can fly up to 600 miles before hitting the target. The Telegraph reported that a video from a pro-Azerbaijan group showed the drone in the air before diving to its intended target. The device is shown flying behind a ride, but didn’t show hitting its target.

Three suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a police station in southern Russia on Monday as they tried to storm the building, police said, but no other casualties were reported. “We were holding a meeting in the morning when five explosions went off,” Sergei Karamyshev, a senior police officer in the village of Novoselitskoye in the southern Stavropol region (the frontline between Russia & North Caucasus), told AFP. “Three people blew themselves up after an officer on duty at the entrance blocked the door to the building,” Karamyshev said. He said that in all there were five explosions: the three suicide bombers and one grenade, but that the cause of the fifth blast was not immediately known. A spokeswoman for police in the Stavropol region said one of the attackers had died by detonating an explosive device, while two others were killed by “return fire.”

The Philippines military says 18 soldiers have been killed in fierce fighting with Islamist militants in the south of the country. It says more than 50 other soldiers were wounded on Saturday during the clashes with members of the Abu Sayyaf group on Basilan island. Five militants including a Moroccan national were killed, the army said. The army was reportedly targeting an Abu Sayyaf commander who has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group. The US government has offered a reward of up to $5m (£3.5m) for information leading to the capture of Isnilon Hapilon. At least four of the soldiers were beheaded in the clashes with about 100 Abu Sayyaf militants, AFP quoted a regional military spokesman as saying. “Our group was heading to attack them. On the way, they were ambushed,” Colonel Benedict Manquiquis, spokesman for the army unit involved in the battle, told radio station DZRH. “The enemy had the high ground so no matter where our soldiers fled to seek cover, they could still be hit by the heavy firepower and improvised explosive devices,” he said.

Headline: North Korea ‘tests long-range missile engine’
North Korea says it has successfully tested an engine designed for an intercontinental ballistic missile. The new type of engine would “guarantee” the ability to launch a nuclear strike on the US mainland, the KCNA news agency said. The test was conducted at the country’s long-range missile launch site near its west coast. It is the latest in a series of tests and launches carried out by the isolated nation. The United States issued a statement criticising North Korea’s action. “We call on North Korea to refrain from actions and rhetoric that further destabilize the region and focus instead on taking concrete steps toward fulfilling its commitments and international obligations,” the state department said. Leader Kim Jong-un supervised the test, state media report, during which “the engine spewed out huge flames with a deafening boom”. The country would now be able to “keep any cesspool of evils in the earth including the US mainland within our striking range,” Mr Kim was quoted as saying.

Headline: World Bank lending at record since aftermath of financial crisis
A surge in demand by ailing commodity exporters in the developing world has pushed up lending from the World Bank this year to its highest levels since the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Finance ministers and central bankers from around the world are due to gather in Washington this week for the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The latter is widely expected on Tuesday to downgrade its 3.4 per cent global growth forecast for this year. But alongside scheduled discussions on everything from slowing emerging economies to tax havens, officials at the World Bank will be dealing with an increase in requests for loans from commodity exporters such as Indonesia, Nigeria and Peru as they struggle to cope with the effects of the collapse in global commodity prices. In the fiscal year to June, the bank is on pace to lend $25bn-$30bn via its main lending arm, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the bank’s top two officials said in an interview with the Financial Times. That would be most the IBRD has loaned to member countries since the immediate aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, which in 2010 caused the bank to lend $44.2bn. “It is our highest lending in a non-crisis period ever,” said Jim Yong Kim, the World Bank’s president, who has begun a push for an increase in the bank’s capital driven in part by the rising demand for aid. Part of the surge in lending, Mr Kim said, was because of increasing requests to help with crises ranging from Ebola to the exodus of millions of people from Syria and other conflict-affected countries, as well as longer-term responses to things like climate change.

Headline: Brazilian scientists find new Zika-linked brain disorder in adults
Scientists in Brazil have uncovered a new brain disorder associated with Zika infections in adults: an autoimmune syndrome called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM, that attacks the brain and spinal cord. Zika has already been linked with the autoimmune disorder Guillain-Barre syndrome, which attacks peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis that can in some cases require patients to rely on respirators for breathing. The new discovery now shows Zika may provoke an immune attack on the central nervous system as well. The findings add to the growing list of neurological damage associated with Zika.

On the latest list of books most objected to at public schools and libraries, one title has been targeted nationwide, at times for the sex and violence it contains, but mostly for the legal issues it raises. The Bible. “You have people who feel that if a school library buys a copy of the Bible, it’s a violation of church and state,” says James LaRue, who directs the Office for Intellectual Freedom for the American Library Association, which released its annual 10 top snapshot of “challenged” books on Monday, part of the association’s “State of Libraries Report” for 2016. “And sometimes there’s a retaliatory action, where a religious group has objected to a book and a parent might respond by objecting to the Bible.” LaRue emphasized that the library association does not oppose having Bibles in public schools. Guidelines for the Office for Intellectual Freedom note that the Bible “does not violate the separation of church and state as long as the library does not endorse or promote the views included in the Bible.” The ALA also favors including a wide range of religious materials, from the Quran to the Bhagavad Gita to the Book of Mormon. LaRue added that the association does hear of complaints about the Quran, but fewer than for the Bible.

Headline: Horror as China tears down THOUSANDS of crucifixes in crude bid to eradicate Christianity
More than two thousand crosses have now been forcefully removed from churches as part of a government campaign to regulate “excessive religious sites”. The nation’s leadership launched the crusade to eradicate Christianity in the coastal province of Zhejiang almost two years ago. Several members of the public have since been arrested for attempting to halt the government’s crude attempt to suppress the Christian faith. Among the arrested was prominent human rights lawyer Zhang Kai, who was detained after he mounted a legal campaign to challenge the removal of the crosses. Mr Kai was detained for six months before he was “forced” to appear on the State channel to “confess” his crimes against the Chinese governement by supporting the anti-establishment protest of the demolition of crucifixes. Local Christian leaders condemned the forced confession from the lawyer, who also represented a group Christians who were detained for suspected financial crimes last year after they protested at the demolation of crosses, in a public letter.

Reports are emerging of the killing of Syrian Christians by Islamic State militants in the town of al-Qaryatain. The town was retaken by Russian-backed Syrian forces and their allies earlier in the week (see April 4 http://endtimesresearchministry.com/april-4-2016-never-before-seen-spring-snowfall-in-the-caribbean-islands/ ). Some 21 Christians were murdered when almost 300 Christians remained in the city after IS captured it last August, said the head of the Syrian Orthodox Church. They included three women, Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II told the BBC. He said some died whilst trying to escape while the others were killed for breaking the terms of their “dhimmi contracts”, which require them to submit to the rule of Islam. Five more Christians are still missing, believed dead. Negotiations and the payment of ransoms have seen the remainder of the group re-join their families. The patriarch said warnings had come that Islamic State planned to sell Christian girls into slavery. Meanwhile, A group of Christians in Iraq have formed their own militia to protect people from the so-called Islamic State group. The leader of the Babylon Brigade says they were left with no choice but to take up arms when IS fighters targeted Christians.

Headline: Afghanistan earthquake shakes major cities
A magnitude 6.6 earthquake has been felt across a number of major cities across south-west Asia. The earthquake struck in Afghanistan, close to its border with Tajikistan, at 10:28 GMT, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor was felt in Kabul, Islamabad, Lahore and Delhi, forcing residents to leave their homes. The latest quake, in the sparsely-populated Hindu Kush mountains, struck at a depth of 210km, the USGS reported. At least 27 people were admitted to hospital in Peshawar, media in Pakistan reported. There were no immediate reports of significant damage.

NGO Monitor on Thursday released a report highly critical of a UN agency deemed so biased in Jerusalem that the Foreign Ministry, according to diplomatic sources, stopped cooperating with it in any meaningful way several years ago. The organization is the Jerusalem-based UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OCHA oPt). According to the NGO Monitor report, the group “regularly presents data in a manipulative way that erases the context of terrorism and distorts law and morality.” OCHA fails to distinguish between Palestinian civilians and attackers, thereby amplifying Palestinian casualty claims, and drawing a false symmetry between legal Israeli self-defense and illegal attacks by terrorists, the report stated.

Israel’s Counter-Terrorism Unit once again upgraded its travel warning to Turkey on Friday, urging Israelis currently in the country “to leave Turkey as soon as possible.” The upgraded and urgent warning, set at level two (indicating a high level, concrete threat) comes on the heels of a warning issued by Turkish authorities a week and a half ago of an ISIS plan to attack Jewish targets in the country, including synagogues, Jewish schools and kindergartens. Turkish police arrested six ISIS terrorists in the city of Gaziantep who reportedly planned an attack against the Great Synagogue in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, which is located alongside a Jewish community center and school. “There is an immediate threat of attacks in the country, which, we stress, applies to all tourist destinations in Turkey. The Counter-Terrorism Unit asks Israeli citizens to heed the warning and avoid traveling to Turkey.” Israelis who are already in Turkey are asked avoid crowded tourist destinations, “follow instructions of local authorities, and leave the country as soon as possible,” the unit said.

The UN Security Council failed in 2011 to adopt such a resolution after the United States used its veto to block the measure which said this construction is “illegal.” PA Ambassador Riyad Mansour said the resolution would clarify the Security Council position on “settlements.” “We’ve been saying that if that is the assessment of the Security Council, then it is the responsibility of the Security Council to take action to stop settlement activity,” Mansour told AFP. “We feel that this has to materialize in some form of action,” he said, adding, “If you give the prognosis, you have to tell us what the medicine would be.” Talks on the draft resolution were ongoing among Arab countries, with Security Council member Egypt expected to take the lead if the draft resolution is presented for a vote. At least 12 fighters died Friday in clashes between loyalists and rebels in Yemen’s Marib province east of Sanaa, two days ahead of a U.N.-announced cease-fire, military sources said. They said the clashes, which according to a preliminary toll killed seven pro-government fighters and five rebels, broke out around the town of Sarwah which loyalists have been trying for months to recapture from Shiite Houthi rebels. Arab-led coalition warplanes circled overhead but did not drop any bombs or fire missiles, an AFP correspondent at the scene said. The rebels said on their website, sabanews.net, that a three-pronged government offensive was repelled with the loss of 35 loyalists. A cease-fire is due to come into effect in Yemen at midnight Sunday, with the United Nations hoping it can be the cornerstone of a peace deal at talks due to start on April 18 in Kuwait.

The monarch brought President Abdel-Fattteh El-Sisi two large checks: a $20bn guarantee to cover the oil needs of 90 million Egyptians for the next five years, and another $1.5bn listed euphemistically under the heading of “Sinai development.” Two-thirds of the latter sum – a cool billion dollars – has been wholly earmarked, according to debkafile’s military and intelligence sources, for weaning 13 Sinai Bedouin chiefs from their commitments to supply fighters and other services to the Wilayat Sayna of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – ex-Ansar Bait al-Maqdis. The Egyptian army will also acquire hi-tech intelligence tools for fighting the terrorist group holding the peninsula in its grip. The day before the Saudi king landed in Cairo, it was leaked in Washington that the Obama administration is pondering ending or reducing the US-led Multinational Force and Observers operation in Sinai, since the peacekeepers have become sitting ducks for Islamist terrorists. The White House has still not answered El-Sisi’s urgent plea for US military back-up to support Egypt’s foundering effort to curb ISIS in the peninsula, although US officials constantly declare their strong commitment to the war on global terrorism. Saudi Arabia this week showed itself ready to step into the breach left by Washington’s indifference.

Aleppo Province stands to become the focal point of a new round of violence in the Syrian Civil War even as the Geneva III Talks to end the conflict are scheduled to resume on April 13. Continued violations of an ongoing ‘cessation of hostilities’ by both pro-regime and opposition factions have fueled the largest outbreak of violence in northern Syria since the agreement went into effect on February 27, threatening to drive a wider breakdown of the tenuous ceasefire. Additional violence can also be expected in northern Aleppo Province over the coming weeks as Turkey and the U.S. vie over the course and composition of coalition-led efforts to sever the ground lines of communication between Ar-Raqqa City and the Syrian-Turkish Border. Turkey has worked to empower opposition groups in Aleppo Province in order to foil the territorial gains made by the Syrian Kurdish YPG, which the U.S. relies upon in the counter-ISIS fight. The regime and its allies also retain positions at the Kuweires Airbase from which to contest ISIS-held portions of Aleppo Province. This local competition for control over Aleppo Province – and the larger geopolitical struggle between the U.S., Russia, Iran, and Turkey that it reflects – will reach a critical boiling point in the coming months.

Islamic State militants have killed 175 workers who were captured at a cement factory situated to the east of Damascus, Sputnik Arabic reported, citing its sources. Reuters had earlier cited the Syrian military as saying that 175 workers from the Badiyah cement factory had been killed by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants. However, the agency retracted its report shortly afterwards, saying that the sourcing on the story “was misattributed” and the report is “unconfirmed.” Sputnik Arabic’s sources said at least 75 plant workers managed to escape during the IS attack, while 175 others were reportedly killed. On Thursday, Syrian SANA news agency reported a source in the Ministry of Industry who said that more than 300 Syrian civilians were missing following an Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) attack on the Badiyah cement factory located outside Dmeir, about 50km to the east of the capital Damascus.

Iraq’s counter-terrorism forces backed by U.S.-led coalition air strikes reached the centre of the western town of Hit, dislodging ISIS militants and evacuating thousands of civilians, state television said Friday. A local commander said the pro-government forces had routed the militants from their stronghold in Hit, which had a pre-war population of nearly 100,000, but fighting was still going on. “We are still pursuing them. They have abandoned their families and fled,” the commander said in a live broadcast. “Within days, God willing, Iraqis will rejoice at the complete liberation of Anbar province”, where Hit is located. The recapture of Hit, strategically located on the Euphrates River near Ain al-Asad air base where several hundred U.S. forces are training Iraqi army troops, would roll back ISIS further west towards the Syrian border.

The number of Islamic State group fighters in Libya has doubled to up to 6,000 in as little as a year, the head of US forces in Africa warned Thursday. Despite the vast increase the IS group is not likely to settle and seize swathes of territory inside Libya, as it has done in Syria and Iraq, said General David Rodriguez, head of the US Africa Command. According to the US intelligence community, about 4,000 to 6,000 IS fighters are now in the country, a number that has doubled in the last 12 to 18 months, Rodriguez said. The Islamic State group has exploited the turmoil in Libya since the overthrow of dictator Moamer Kadhafi five years ago, raising fears that it is establishing a new stronghold on Europe’s doorstep. But Rodriguez said it is significantly harder for IS extremists to grab large areas of Libya and then consolidate.

Just a day after Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla signed a law that enables him to temporary halt debt payments, dramatically raising the risk of widespread defaults, Puerto Rico securities had the biggest one-day drop in more than eight months. Today’s plunge is the biggest decline since July 28, 2015, a day after PR indicated that it was set to skip interest and principal payments on some securities for the first time. As The NY Times reports, Gov. Alejandro García Padilla of Puerto Rico on Wednesday signed a bill that would allow him to declare a state of emergency and give him authority to halt payments on the island’s crushing $72 billion debt. The measures capped two days and nights of marathon debate in Puerto Rico’s legislature, where lawmakers from the main opposition party called any unilateral debt moratorium dangerous and members of the governor’s party insisted that doing nothing would be even worse. “This legislation provides us with the tools to address the highest priority of needs — providing essential services to our people — without fear of retribution,” the governor said in a statement on Wednesday. He accused Puerto Rico’s creditors of hampering federal assistance by “misinforming the public and dissuading Congress from doing what is right for our 3.5 million American citizens.” The Puerto Rican Senate approved the measure at about 3 a.m. Tuesday. The House, after becoming embroiled in a dispute over whether certain types of bonds should be excluded, approved it around 1 a.m. Wednesday. The bill did not specify a starting date for a moratorium, leaving that decision to the governor. But a big debt payment, $422 million, is due on May 1, and there have been many signs that Puerto Rico is not able or willing to pay it.

Headline: Fingerprints to be tested as ‘currency’
Starting this summer, the Japanese government will test a system in which foreign tourists will be able to verify their identities and buy things at stores using only their fingerprints. The government hopes to increase the number of foreign tourists by using the system to prevent crime and relieve users from the necessity of carrying cash or credit cards. It aims to realize the system by the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The experiment will have inbound tourists register their fingerprints and other data, such as credit card information, at airports and elsewhere. Tourists would then be able to conduct tax exemption procedures and make purchases after verifying their identities by placing two fingers on special devices installed at stores. The Inns and Hotels Law requires foreign tourists to show their passports when they check into ryokan inns or hotels. The government plans to substitute fingerprint authentication for that requirement. A total of 300 souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and other establishments will participate in the experiment. They are located in areas that are popular among foreign tourists such as Hakone, Kamakura, Yugawara in Kanagawa Prefecture, and Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Headline: Gazans launch campaign calling on Saudi Arabia to help them make pilgrimage to Mecca
It has been more than two years since Gaza residents were last able to visit Mecca for the hajj pilgrimage. In a bid to fulfill their religious duty, Gazans have launched a social media campaign urging Saudi Arabia to intervene and demand Egypt reopen the Rafah border crossing, thereby allowing them to leave Gaza. The campaign, spread on Twitter and Facebook under the hashtag “Gaza misses Umrah (the Mecca pilgrimage),” was launched in light of the approaching visit of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman to Cairo later this week. The Gazan activists called on Salman to “intervene and mount pressure on Egypt to open Rafah border crossing for Gaza residents, who have been deprived from the Umrah for three years.” Amid Gazans’ protests, a new Palestinian initiative has been developed during the recent wave of Palestinian violence against Israelis. The initiative, called “Umrah for every martyr,” aims at commemorating Palestinian martyrs by preforming hajj on their behalf.

The growing threat of Islamic State and other jihadists in Egypt has in part spurred the US government to consider pulling its forces from a base in the Sinai Peninsula, CNN reported late Tuesday. According to the report, the Obama administration is examining the relocation of US and international peacekeeping troops from a base in the volatile northern Sinai to areas in the peninsula’s south. About 700 American forces are reportedly involved in the maneuver that Washington is contemplating. The United States now sees the threat of attacks by ISIS-linked groups and Islamist militants as escalating in the northern Sinai region which borders with Israel, CNN cited defense officials as saying. Washington is reportedly in talks with Israel and Egypt regarding the possible shift of the US-led peacekeepers take make up the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), who oversee the terms of the 1979 peace treaty between the neighboring nations. The officials who spoke to CNN added that the potential move would not constitute a US retreat due to the threat posed by ISIS, stressing that the US would still be able to fulfill the terms of its duties under the peace treaty.

Hamas employs more than 1,000 operatives to excavate underground tunnels in the Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported Thursday. According to the report, the terrorist organization invests hundreds of thousands of dollars each month in the digging activities, paying each operative engaged in the process some 300 to 400 dollars a month. Hamas also heavily invests in smuggling building materials, including raw materials and excavation machinery from Egypt and Israel. To prepare for a possible future incursion with Israel, the Palestinian terrorist organization’s elite ‘Nukhbah’ unit carries out drills practicing different scenarios simulating offenses in the tunnels near the border fence with Israel. Several of the members of the unit have been killed in recent months in tunnel collapses in the coastal Palestinian enclave, according to the Israel Radio report.

Israel began construction on a controversial part of its separation barrier in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, near a Palestinian Christian town, an AFP journalist reported. Cranes began lifting eight-metre(yard)-high blocks into place near Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem and close to Bethlehem, a photographer witnessed. This part of the wall could cut Palestinians from their olive groves. Nicola Khamis, mayor of Beit Jala, condemned what she saw as a land grab. “This land is for our families, our children,” she said by phone from the bridge next to the construction site. The Israeli army referred questions to the defence ministry, which did not immediately respond. Residents of Beit Jala fear the construction of the wall may lead to the expansion of the nearby Israeli settlements of Gilo and Har Gilo.

ISIS forces in southern Syria overran several Jordanian border crossings south of the Yarmouk River on Tuesday, April 5. This disastrous turn of events is illustrated by an exclusive picture obtained by debkafile of an ISIS fighter unfurling the organization’s flag at one of the crossings which sports a Jordanian flag. The picture taken the same day shocked the royal court and the Jordanian military command in Amman. Our military sources report that an urgent conference was called at the Military Operations Command (MOC), north of Amman to devise measures for containing the Islamic State’s leap into more territory on the Syrian-Jordanian border. It was attended by Jordanian, American, Israeli, Saudi and UAE officers. Jordan has meanwhile stepped forward to stem this flow of strength to ISIS. debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report that Jordanian military intelligence officers specializing in guerrilla warfare have been infiltrating rebel-held areas in the South, especially Daraa, the regional hub, for the purpose of whipping rebel militias together into a front against ISIS. These officers have succeeded in setting up a joint war room with the three biggest rebel groups in the south, the Southern Front, Jaish Fatah al-Junub and Jaish al-Islam, for action under the direction of the MOC outside Amman. On Monday, April 4, the joint force saw combat, when rebel forces under Jordanian commanders launched an attack to drive the ISIS forces back into their former corner in the narrow triangle near the meeting-point of the Syrian, Israeli and Jordanian borders. ISIS hit back with suicide bombers, who blew themselves up next to the Jordanian-led rebel assault force. It was the first time ISIS had unleashed suicide bombers so close to the Israeli border.

Headline: Hezbollah said building missile base in Syria, to strike at Israel
The Lebanese terror group Hezbollah has reportedly been constructing a fortified base inside Syria that it may be using to store Iranian ballistic missiles with the range to hit Israel. Satellite images of an area on the northern Lebanese-Syrian border show that Hezbollah has been consolidating positions it conquered from Syrian rebels in June 2013, global intelligence company Stratfor said Wednesday. Photos show several facilities in the region around Qusair, including one large compound surrounded by an earthen berm. Villages up to four kilometers (2.5 miles) from the base have been razed to enable clear observation of the territory, and tunnels have reportedly been dug back under the border and into Lebanon. Other sources said there are long-range missiles at the base including Iranian-manufactured Shabab-1, Shabab-2, and Fateh-110 ballistic missiles, although there was no satellite confirmation to back up the claim. “While these missiles could prove crucial in the event of a large-scale Israeli ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, they are not beyond the reach of the Israeli Air Force,” the report said. “Notably, imagery does not show significant underground facilities at the base capable of protecting this weaponry.”

Two bombs dropped by the Saudi Arabian Air Force on a crowded marketplace in Yemen on March 15 were American-made, claims Human Rights Watch (HRW). The UN estimates the death toll to be at least 97 dead, among them 25 children. HRW examined the bomb blast fragmentations found at the site and determined they came from a US-made “GBU-31 satellite-guided bomb, which consists of a US-supplied MK-84 2,000lb bomb mated with a JDAM satellite guidance kit, also US-supplied,” HRW’s report says. “One of the deadliest strikes against civilians in Yemen’s year-long war involved US-supplied weapons, illustrating tragically why countries should stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia,” said Priyanka Motaparthy, emergency researcher at HRW. Mastaba, a village in Yemen’s northern Hajja governorate, some 45km from the Saudi border, was attacked at noon. Two bombs were dropped successively with a short period. The first blasted right in front of a complex of shops and a restaurant, the second exploded a short while later near the entrance to the market, within the crowd fleeing the airstrike, HRW reports.

Islamic State militants attacked Syrian army troops with mustard gas in an offensive against a Syrian military airport in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor that borders Iraq, state media said on late Monday. Islamic State fighters launched attacks on government-held areas near Damascus overnight in what a Syrian source said appeared to be a response to the group’s loss of ground elsewhere. The group said in a statement it had attacked the Tishrin power station, 50 km (30 miles) northeast of the capital. The Syrian military source acknowledged the group had staged assaults, but said all those who took part had been killed. The Syrian source said Tuesday night’s attacks outside Damascus appeared to be the jihadist group’s response to its reverses around Palmyra. Islamic State attackers, using five bomb-laden cars, also struck military positions near the Dumeir military airport (2nd photo) 40 km (25 miles) northeast of Damascus, killing 12 soldiers, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based organization that tracks the war, said. Islamic State claimed the bombings in an online statement, saying it carried out a suicide attack on government forces which were moving north from the military airport. According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus City, ISIS reportedly captured the ‘Arouba Checkpoint after a violent battle with the Al-Nusra Front at the Yalda-Yarmouk axis. Syria Headline: Regime readying major Aleppo counterattack
Syrian regime troops and allied militias are preparing a massive counteroffensive in southwest Aleppo after the Al-Nusra Front led a successful operation to seize the strategic town of Al-Eis. “The [Syrian] army command has not issued the order the start the battle, however preparations indicate a major confrontation is coming,” a Lebanese daily with an editorial line supportive of Hezbollah reported Thursday morning. Al-Akhbar claimed that despite the fierce regime bombardment of Al-Nusra Front controlled areas in southwest Aleppo—including Al-Eis—Syrian army troops and its allied “continue to show self-restraint.” “Options are still open for the army and its allies; the promised operation has not started yet,” the newspaper added. The Al-Akhbar article comes a day after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that pro-regime forces had launched a wide-scale offensive on midnight Tuesday in a bid to regain control of Al-Eis, which was seized by Al-Nusra Front over the weekend in an assault backed by other rebel groups. Syrian and Russian jets have pummeled the Al-Eis area in recent days, with the SOHR saying early Thursday afternoon that Russian jets conducted at least 50 airstrikes around Al-Eis since midnight.b

Iraq Headline: Iraqi paramilitaries ‘will join offensive’ to retake Mosul
The United States could increase the number of fire support bases in Iraq in continued efforts to help the Iraqi security forces recapture the city of Mosul. Fire support bases are temporary military camps used to provide artillery fire in support of ground troops. Iraq launched a significant offensive recently to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city that was seized by the Islamic State in June 2014. “As the ISF progresses toward isolating Mosul, there may be a situation where there is another base that is opened — or re-opened from years past — that would be used in the same manner as a fire support base,” Rear Adm. Andrew L. “Woody” Lewis told reporters on Wednesday, Military.com reports. No additional “fire bases” have been deployed since March, when about 200 Marines equipped with four M114 155 mm howitzers set up base about 60 miles southeast of Mosul. An Islamic State attack on that fire base, called Fire Base Bell, on March 19 killed 27-year-old California native Staff Sgt. Louis Cardin.

Kurdish Headline: Kurds respond to rebel attacks in Aleppo, killing over 30 Islamists
Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) on Wednesday clashed with Islamist rebels, and killed and injured dozens near the Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo, leadership of the YPG said on Wednesday. The Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Mqsoud in Aleppo –held by the YPG fighters– has been exposed to heavy shelling by Islamist rebels over the past few days. The YPG issued Wednesday a statement, obtained by ARA News, saying: “On April 5, the terrorist groups [Islamist rebels] bombarded the Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud from their positions in the ‘youth housing’, ash-Shaqif housing, the intelligence Street and the Ashrafiyeh district in Aleppo.” “At least 15 civilians were killed and more than 56 others wounded in Wednesday’s attack,” the statement reported.

Kurdish militants killed five members of the Turkish security forces on Thursday in a series of clashes and bomb attacks in a town under a military lockdown in the southeast of the country, the Dogan news agency reported. The Turkish security forces were carrying out an operation in the town of Nusaybin in Mardin province where the government has been waging a blistering offensive against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Iran intends to produce the powerful explosive Octogen for use in the warheads of its missiles to improve their “destructive and penetration power,” Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said Wednesday. Octogen is used as an explosive in penetrating missile warheads and as a solid rocket fuel — but is also employed as part of the detonator in an atomic bomb. During a ceremony to inaugurate a Octogen production plant, Dehqan stressed Iran’s goal of gaining the know-how to make the explosive material in order to avoid relying on external sources. “Concurrently with its efforts to increase the precision-striking power of its weapons systems, the Defense Ministry has also paid attention to boosting the destructive and penetration power of different weapons’ warheads and has put on its agenda the acquisition of the technical know-how to produce Octogen explosive materials and Octogen-based weapons,” he said, according to a report from the semi-official FARS news agency.

Armed South Sudanese rebels have begun taking up positions in the capital, a risky but crucial step to end two years of war. The Associated Press and other journalists on Thursday toured one of the rebel camps where fighters dressed in green fatigues stood in semi-circle formation, chanting call-and-response war songs and waving their AK-47s in unison. More than 900 of the rebels have set up camp in two designated sites in Juba as part of a process to secure the city for the scheduled return on April 18 of their leader, Riek Machar. The fighters will eventually reintegrate into the army, rebel Gen. James Koang, who is overseeing the process, told the journalists.

Headline: Libya’s Tripoli Government Backs Down from Promise to Disband
The odds of a unity government taking hold in Libya got smaller Wednesday when the rival Tripoli-based administration backed down from its promise to give up power. The National Salvation Government ordered security forces to stay on the job and continue protecting the administration. It also said it would hold the new unity government responsible for any violations of its security. Tripoli-based authorities said Tuesday that they were disbanding their government and that its prime minister, parliament and ministry chiefs were all stepping down. But it said a day later that the new U.N-brokered unity government violated Libyan sovereignty. “The choice of the new government is a purely internal national affair in which no one has the right to interfere,” it said in a statement.

Russia staked out its claim on Thursday to be the lead player in brokering a settlement to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a role it hopes will enhance its clout in a region where it competes for influence with Washington. Dozens of people were killed this week in four days of shelling and rocket strikes between Azerbaijan’s military and Armenian-backed separatists over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, prompting fears of an all-out war. It may turn out the economy did not grow at all in the first quarter. Trade data released Tuesday show the U.S. deficit widened more than expected to $47.1 billion in February and was a bigger drag on growth than expected. It’s the latest economic metric that chiseled away at the tracking model for first quarter growth. The median of economists who participate in the CNBC/Moody’s Analytics Rapid Update is now 0.5 percent for tracking GDP growth, down from 0.9 percent last week. Their average forecast for growth is 1.1 percent. Given the average, and substantial, revisions to government GDP data, that 0.5 percent could easily turn into a negative number, or a much higher number. That is based on a CNBC study that examined every report going back to 1990 and found an average error rate of 1.3 percentage points in either direction.

Top Zika investigators now believe that the birth defect microcephaly and the paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome may be just the most obvious maladies caused by the mosquito-borne virus. Fueling that suspicion are recent discoveries of serious brain and spinal cord infections – including encephalitis, meningitis and myelitis – in people exposed to Zika. Evidence that Zika’s damage may be more varied and widespread than initially believed adds pressure on affected countries to control mosquitoes and prepare to provide intensive – and, in some cases, lifelong – care to more patients. The newly suspected disorders can cause paralysis and permanent disability – a clinical outlook that adds urgency to vaccine development efforts. Scientists are of two minds about why these new maladies have come into view. The first is that, as the virus is spreading through such large populations, it is revealing aspects of Zika that went unnoticed in earlier outbreaks in remote and sparsely populated areas. Headline: Death toll from yellow fever in Angola rises to 225: Minister
The death toll from a yellow fever pandemic in Angola has risen to 225, the southern African country’s heath minster says, warning of a possible surge in casualties. Luis Sambo said on Tuesday that some 1,600 cases have been recorded so far. He said that the disease, which broke out late last year, has spread to 16 of the country’s 18 provinces. “We need to increase the response capacity… in both technological resources [such] as medicines and vaccines, as well as in personnel,” he said. Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that almost 160 people had died of yellow fever in Angola. The United Nations body also warned that a breakdown in sanitation services and garbage collection has caused a surge in malaria, cholera and chronic diarrhea in the country.

Identified as 2MASS J1119-1137, the 10-million-year-old object is between four and eight times the mass of Jupiter, which means that the object falls in the mass range between a large planet and a small brown dwarf star, according to the website Science Daily, which referred to the study on the matter.

Headline: Vanuatu hit by third strong earthquake in five days
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a third earthquake that struck the Pacific Island of Vanuatu in merely five days. The group reported that the most recent one was a 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the island nation on April 7, 2016, however, no major damages or casualties have been reported by the local authorities. The U.S. Geological Survey further pointed out that the quake is said to have struck 100 kilometers west of the village of Sola, and 460 kilometers northwest of Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila. It added that the quake struck at a depth of 33 kilometers. This quake is the third in a series of earthquakes of the same magnitude that have been reported in the region. Shadrack Welegtabit, director of Vanuatu’s National Disaster Management Office reportedly told the local media, “We are not sure what has triggered the recent spate of earthquakes.”

The group’s military wing, Izzadin Kassam Brigades, released a televised statement through official Hamas media in Gaza on Friday saying Israel will have to make concessions if it wants the Islamist organization to provide information about the conditions of the “four prisoners of war.” The Hamas spokesperson assailed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and denied that the organization was considering the release of the four Israelis. “Netanyahu is lying to his people with his statements and he is pulling the wool over the eyes of the parents of the soldiers in our custody,” said Abu Abeida, the Izzadin Kassam spokesperson. “There are no negotiations [with Israel] over prisoners.”

Speaking at the beginning of a meeting with Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek, the prime minster’s comments were made in response to remarks by the Palestinian president’s claims that he wanted to arrange a meeting with Netanyahu but Netanyahu had refused. “I heard that President Abbas said if I invite him to meet, he will come,” the Israeli prime minister said Monday. “I am inviting him again. I will clear my schedule this week and any day he can come I will be here. The first item I want to discuss with him is ending the Palestinian incitement campaign against Israel. My door is always open for those who want to pursue peace with Israel.” Abbas said Netanyahu did not respond positively to the suggested meeting. “I’m prepared to meet Netanyahu anywhere, any time,” Abbas told Channel 2’s Ilana Dayan. Last Friday, April 1, President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan had his first encounter with a group of American Jewish leaders, at his request. The full details of its contents were hard to sort out because the Turkish translator censored his master’s words with a heavy hand to make them more acceptable to his audience. But Erdogan’s bottom line, debkafile’s New York sources report, was a request for help in explaining to the Obama administration in Washington and the Netanyahu government in Jerusalem why they must on no account extend support to the Syrian Kurdish PYD and its YPG militia or recognize their bid for a separate state in northern Syria. The Turkish president did not spell out his response to this step, but indicated that a Turkish invasion to confront the Kurdish separatists was under serious consideration in Ankara. His meaning was clear: He would go to war against the Kurds, even if this meant flying in the face of President Barack Obama’s expectation that Turkey would fight the Islamic State. On Feb. 7, on his return for a Latin American tour, the Turkish president warned Obama that he must choose between Ankara and the Kurds, whom he called “terrorists.” By last week, the US president’s choice was clear. It was the Kurds. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is caught on the horns of multiple dilemmas: While reluctant to respond to Ankara’s suit for warm relations with a leader who is shunned by Obama and Putin alike, Turkey is nonetheless offering to be Israel’s best client for its offshore gas. Israel’s friendship with the Kurdish people goes back many years. The rise of an independent or autonomous state in Syria and its potential link-up with the semiautonomous Kurdish region of Iraq would create an important new state of 40 million people in the heart of the Middle East. Israel has no wish to make enemies of its longstanding friends by disowning them in favor of Turkey. Already, Israel’s evolving ties with the Syrian Kurds have given Israel’s strategic position in Syria a new positive spin, upgrading it versus the Assad regime in Damascus and its Hizballah and Iranian allies, who are avowed enemies of the Jewish state. Those ties offer Israel its first foothold in northern Syria. And finally, Erdogan is not the only opponent of Kurdish separatism; so too are important Sunni Muslim nations like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Hezbollah fighters Monday launched an attack on ISIS positions on Lebanon’s northeastern border, killing and wounding a number of the extremists, media affiliated with the party said. The War Media Center reported on Twitter that Hezbollah fighters raided the area of al-Zweitini on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek and destroyed an ISIS bunker, killing the militants inside. It added that the militants called in reinforcements who were also targeted by Hezbollah fighters with automatic weapons and rockets, wounding a number of them. However, ISIS and Nusra Front militants still occupy areas on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek and nearby Arsal from where they launch occasional attacks on Lebanon.

Headline: Egypt army kills scores of militants in Sinai Peninsula
In an official statement on Friday, the Egyptian army said as many as 65 militants had been killed during military operations in the cities of Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah in the province, Egyptian daily Al-Ahram reported on its website. Also on Friday, at least four policemen were killed when their vehicle went over a roadside bomb in el-Arish, the province’s capital. Several other policemen and civilians were reportedly injured in the incident. The latest instance of violence comes after a military spokesman announced last October that Egyptian forces had gained “full control” over the three cities following successful raids against “terrorist strongholds” and weapon caches, the paper added. Over the past several years, Egyptian troops have been engaged in efforts to quell rampant militancy across the Sinai Peninsula.

Syrian rebels and the al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front have mounted an offensive against Syrian government forces and on Saturday took a strategic hill south of Aleppo from government control, a monitoring group said. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the offensive began on Friday, and Syrian government and allied forces were fighting to take back control of the territory and repel further attacks. Friday’s attack began with three suicide bombings carried out by Nusra Front south of Talat al-‘Iss hill. Rebel and Nusra Front forces then took control of the hill, the Observatory and a Nusra Front statement said. Nusra Front said in the statement it ambushed government forces as they withdrew toward the town of Hadhar to the east. The Observatory said the fighting has so far killed dozens of regime forces and at least 16 rebels and Nusra Front members.

Rebel groups have reached the outskirts of a key ISIS stronghold along the Turkish-Syrian border after seizing a number of villages in a blistering offensive against the jihadist group. “Rebels are four kilometers west of Al-Rai (ar-Rai), the main ISIS base in the northern Aleppo countryside,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Monday morning. On midnight Thursday, rebel groups in the Hawar Kilis Operations Room—including the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Division, Faylaq al-Sham, and the Al-Moutasem Brigade, among others—launched a major drive eastward from Doudiyan. The insurgent groups have since successfully pushed ISIS out of approximately 70 square kilometers of territory with the support of Turkish artillery bombardment as well Coalition airstrikes on ISIS positions.

At least 25 people have been killed and dozens wounded in bomb attacks across Iraq, media reports say. As many as 10 suicide bombers carried out the attacks, which reportedly targeted members of the security forces and allied Shia Muslim militias. The Islamic State (IS) group, which holds territory in the north and west, said it was behind some of the attacks. In the deadliest attack, at least 14 people were killed when a bomber blew himself up in a restaurant. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday ruled out reviving peace talks with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and vowed to stamp out the conflict, at its deadliest in two decades, once and for all. Two members of the security forces were killed in fighting in the mainly Kurdish southeast on Monday, officials said. The autonomy-seeking PKK abandoned its two-year ceasefire in July, reigniting a conflict that has claimed more than 40,000 lives, mainly Kurdish, since 1984. The violence wrecked a peace process, spearheaded by Erdogan, that was seen as the best chance at ending one of Europe’s longest-running insurgencies. “We said ‘resolution process’, and they deceived us, their word cannot be trusted. Greece engaged in angry exchanges with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the weekend after WikiLeaks transcripts suggested that the fund was seeking to threaten Greece with a risk of default. WikiLeaks published the text on Saturday (2 April) of an alleged conversation between three IMF officials in which they say that Greece only does what it needs to do only when it runs out of money – a situation they suggest could happen again soon. The Greek government responded by asking the IMF whether “seeking to create default conditions in Greece, shortly ahead of the referendum in Britain, is the fund’s official position”. In a letter to Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras on Sunday, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde tried to assure him that “any speculation that IMF staff would consider using a credit event as a negotiating tactic is simply nonsense”. She added however that her institutions would support only a “credible” plan “based on realistic assumptions”. “We are still a good distance away from having a coherent programme,” she wrote. The event, which was described as ‘exceptional’ by a French meteorologist took place on Thursday, March 31 in the municipality of St. Claude. Reports from French media indicate that a very fine snowfall blanketed the hills above the town. French meteorologist, Alain Museleque, explained the extraordinary phenomenon on Guadeloupe Premiere TV. “We had a mass of clouds that arrived over St. Claude,” he said in French and translated by McCathy Marie. “Accompanying this mass of clouds was some very cold air.
