Supporters of imprisoned Iranian Christian Youcef Nadarkhani began celebrating Saturday as news reports surfaced that the pastor had been released by Iranian officials, mere months after it appeared a final execution order had been handed down.
Nadarkhani, 34 and a native Iranian, was found guilty in 2010 of apostasy and sentenced to death for refusing to recant Christianity. He has spent the last three years in jail awaiting his fate.
According to the ACLJ, the pastor was freed following a nearly six-hour court appearance. The Washington-based group cited sources "close to the case" as saying officials ultimately lowered his charges from apostasy to evangelizing Muslims, which carried a three-year term. Nadarkhani, who has a wife, Tina and two young sons, was therefore released with time served.
Speculation leading up to this most recent hearing in front of the Iranian Supreme Court was that Nadarkhani might be brought up on new security-based charges, which could have been used as an excuse to keep the pastor in jail, Fox reported.
However, speaking to Fox News, Jordan Sekulow, executive director of ACLJ, said the pastor had indeed been released.
"Today our sources in Iran reported that Pastor Youcef was acquitted of apostasy and released from prison. After languishing in prison for almost three years, he has been reunited with his family," Sekulow said.
Sekulow subsequently tweeted a picture of Nadarkhani apparently surrounded by family members.

Headline: Report: Syria's chemical weapons stored in 20 sites around country
The Syrian government has stored its chemical weapons and materials in some twenty sites around the country, according to a Washington Post report published on Thursday.
The report cited unnamed American and Middle Eastern officials, who also said there could be additional sites of which they were unaware.
The officials said their governments believe Syria has several tons of chemical weapons and materials, including weapons-ready sarin gas, and that the most dangerous elements of the arsenal are stored in bunkers.
The officials also said that U.S. intelligence agencies are monitoring the facilities, and have plans to secure them in the event that the situation in the country spins further out of control.
They added that the country's chemical weapons arsenal was developed for use against Israel in a war, with the help of North Korea and Russia.
An American intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Washington Post that foreign governments were surprised "both in terms of quantities and locations" of chemical weapons stored in Libya, when foreign experts were sent in to secure and remove such weapons.
Various areas of the country have effectively been abandoned by the regime of President Bashar Assad – the Free Syrian Army claims control over up to half the country – leading to fears that chemical weapons facilities could be looted, with weapons ending up in the hands of radical Islamists or Hezbollah.

A series of earthquakes collapsed houses and triggered landslides in a remote mountainous part of southwestern China on Friday, killing at least 50 people with the toll expected to rise. Damage was preventing rescuers from reaching some outlying areas, and communications were disrupted.

A magnitude-4.1 quake struck the same area a minute later. A Huron police dispatcher said she had not received any calls reporting damage or injuries. Russia warned Israel and other nations not to attack Iran over its nuclear program, saying the use of force would be disastrous for the Middle East and have consequences far beyond the region, the Interfax news agency reported on Thursday.
"We warn those who are no strangers to military solutions … that this would be harmful, literally disastrous for regional stability and would set off deep shocks in the security and economic spheres that would reverberate far beyond the boundaries of the Middle East region," Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying.
Russia has long opposed a military solution for the Iranian nuclear conflict, while also strongly rejecting imposing harsh financial sanctions by the UN Security Council saying the measures punish banks, companies and shipping firms. Russia says it supports the diplomatic efforts aimed at seeking an Iranian compromise concerning its nuclear aspirations.

The department said in a report on Wednesday that the number of poor Americans who repeatedly ran short of food increased by 800,000 in 2011, Reuters reported. The report added that women living alone and African-American households suffered the biggest increase in very low food security.
The US government said on Tuesday that a record number of 46.7 million people were enrolled for food stamps in June, showing a 173,000-increase compared with May.
Official figures showed a 3.3-percent hike in participation in the public aid program compared to last year.
According to almost everyone who experienced very low food security, the poor people did not have the money to buy food.
Some 97 percent of poor people said they cut back on the amount they ate or skipped a meal, while 91 percent said it happened often throughout the year. The food crisis in the US is one of the controversial issues during the presidential election campaign.
Republicans are calling for large cuts in food stamps and Medicaid to help reduce the deficit, but Democrats say the cuts are too deep. Medicaid is the US health program for low-income people and families.
Food-stamp spending, which has more than doubled in the past four years to the record amount of $75.7 billion in the fiscal year that ended on September 30, 2011, is the US Department of Agriculture’s biggest annual expense.

I can’t imagine it means anything cheerful that Vladimir Putin, the Russian czar, is stockpiling gold as fast as he can get his hands on it. According to the World Gold Council, Russia has more than doubled its gold reserves in the past five years. Putin has taken advantage of the financial crisis to build the world’s fifth-biggest gold pile in a handful of years, and is buying about half a billion dollars’ worth every month.

Headline: Judge Says 10 Rare Gold Coins Worth $80 Million Belong to Uncle Sam
A judge ruled that 10 rare gold coins worth $80 million belonged to the U.S. government, not a family that had sued the U.S. Treasury, saying it had illegally seized them.
The 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle coin was originally valued at $20, but sold for as much as $7.5 million at a Sotheby's auction in 2002, according to Courthouse News.
After President Theodore Roosevelt had the U.S. abandon the gold standard, most of the 445,500 double eagles that the Philadelphia Mint had struck were melted into gold bars.
However, a Philadelphia Mint cashier had managed to give or sell some of them to a local coin dealer, Israel Switt.
In 2003, Switt's family, Joan Langbord, and her two grandsons, drilled opened a safety deposit box that had belonged to him and found the 10 coins.
When the Langbords gave the coins to the Philadelphia Mint for authentification, the government seized them without compensating the family.
The Langbords sued, saying the coins belonged to them.
In 2011, a jury decided that the coins belonged to the government, but the family appealed. Last week, Judge Legrome Davis of the Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania, affirmed that decision, saying "the coins in question were not lawfully removed from the United States Mint."
Barry Berke, an attorney for the Langbords, told ABCNews.com, "This is a case that raises many novel legal questions, including the limits on the government's power to confiscate property. The Langbord family will be filing an appeal and looks forward to addressing these important issues before the 3rd Circuit."
The family said in its suit that in another seizure of the 1933 double eagle, the government split the proceeds with the owner after the coin sold for $7.59 million in 2002, according to Coinbooks.org.

The Obama administration today argued in court that the government can make a requirement that violates religious beliefs and that a company cannot reflect the religious faith of its owners. The administration’s statements came in a court filing that asserts the federal government has the authority to order private companies to provide abortifacients for their employees.

Headline: Alabama to require biometric scans for prison visitors

The Alabama Department of Corrections has implemented a new policy that requires visitors to state prisons to have their fingerprint scanned before entering prison facilities. It is the first state to implement the requirement. Alabama has 29 correctional facilities with approximately 25,500 adult inmates.
Brian Corbett, the Department of Corrections spokesman said: “Our IT department came up with the idea of scanning fingerprints as part of an upgrade. We still require visitors to have a government-issued photo ID, and that requirement will remain in place. But there are times when someone else resembles the photo on an ID. Scanning the fingerprint of visitors verifies they are who they say they are.”
Corbett said scanning fingerprints makes the visitation process more efficient and faster. The visitor places his or her index finger on a fingerprint reader in order to verify their identity. Correction officers will no longer have to look at every ID to verify each visitor. Furthermore, Corbett assured the public that visitor fingerprints will not be filed in a database or shared with law enforcement.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (NBC) — Students and parents are rallying against new ID badges that track student movement on the campuses of two San Antonio, Texas schools. Father Steven Hernandez does not agree with the district’s new pilot program called Radio Frequency Identification System, or RFID.
The new identification tags are designed to help the district improve safety by locating students at any time, while on campus, at John Jay High School and Anson Jones Middle School. RFID tags are also supposed to help with attendance by counting students more accurately as the enter the building.
District spokesman Pasqual Gonzalez says the two campuses have a high rate of truancy and tardiness, and the district could gain $2 million in state funding by improving attendance at the schools. According to Gonzalez the system will not be fully implemented until the end of September.
Hernandez considers the new ID tags a spy chip. Katie Deolloz agrees. She lives in Dallas and felt it was important to join the protest effort. Deolloz is a member of CASPIAN, or Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering. The group is joined by national radio host, Dr. Katherine Albrecht, co-authored a book opposing RFID. She is lending her support to Hernandez.

And Brian Dodson at Gizmap explains the scientists “have developed a reliable method to turn the clock back on blood cells, restoring them to a primitive stem cell state from which they can then develop into any other type of cell in the body.”
In what could be a blow to the scientific process encouraged by Barack Obama, to destroy embryonic lives to obtain stem cell tissue, researchers at Johns Hopkins have e developed a way to obtain stem cells, the basic building blocks of human life, without destroying embryonic life.
“Taking a cell from an adult and converting it all the way back to when that person was a 6-day-old embryo creates a completely new biology toward our understanding of how cells age and what happens when things go wrong, as in cancer development,”.
In an announcement from the research center, he explained that the team on which he worked took cord blood cells, treated them with growth factors and used plasmids to transfer four genes into them.
“They then delivered an electrical pulse to the cells, making tiny holes in the surface through which the plasmids could slip inside. Once inside, the plasmids triggered the cells to revert to a more primitive cell state,” the research center reported.
“The discovery could be the key to cure the incurable – from heart attacks to severed spinal cords to cancer – and open the door, some day, to eternal youth,” wrote Diaz at Gizmodo.
He said there are a number of significant developments.
“To start with, it uses normal adult blood cells from the patient, so there’s no need to keep umbilical cords in storage. It also doesn’t use any virus reprogramming, so it’s completely safe. It’s also very efficient: researchers successfully transformed about 50 to 60 percent of adult blood cells into embryonic stem cells that can then be turn[ed] into any type of cell – a heart muscle cell, a bone cell, a nerve cell, anything.”

There’s an epic faith battle playing itself out in the European court system that will have a onumental impact on public expressions of faith in the workplace.The stakes are certainly high in the case, which was brought by four Christians who claim they were discriminated against when they were told that they could not wear a crucifix to work (additionally, two additional individuals have related cases surrounding same-sex attraction). Rather than defending the individuals’ rights, government lawyers are siding with employers, claiming that believers may need to sacrifice their jobs if they wish to express their faith in such a public manner.
According to these lawyers, religious individuals are not legally entitled to the right to wear crosses against the will of their employers. Because the crucifix isn’t “a scriptural requirement,” the government says employers aren’t obligated to allow it. This argument paints a starkly different picture from United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron’s previous promises to change laws in a fashion that would protect religious expression in the workplace — something that apparently won’t be happening.
“There is a difference between the professional sphere where your religious beliefs conflict with other interests and the private sphere,” said James Eadie QC, a legal representative for the government. “Everyone has the right to express their beliefs, including the right to display religious symbols, but not an absolute right or a right without limits.”

I saw it. True story. I was thinking that I had lost my connection to God, because it seemed the harder I prayed, the worse things got. Then, after I ran across your website, and I realized that, hey look up!, for your redemption draweth nigh!
I was an altar boy when I was younger, but I grew disillusioned with the Catholic Church. Even though, I got a great education at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, Texas, so many things bothered me about the Catholic message, like the fact that we only had one black student in the whole high school, and that all Catholics seem to think they can do whatever they want all week, and as long as they go to confession on Friday, and pay their dues to the church, as long as they are paying customers, that takes care of all that stuff. But the Catholic Church has a long history of selling indulgences to the highest bidder, so while I admire and respect the Jesuit priests who taught me well, as there are many good Catholics, the system itself is corrupt. And I always thought that even if there is a Rapture, it's for all the people who go to church every Sunday, and pay their 10% tithes, if there was a way to be left out, I would probably be in that group. But, reading your material, it made me think, that few if any of the so called Christians I know are going to get caught up in it, not the way they have responded to me telling them about it, most people get really angry when you even mention these things, and yet, here we are, all of a sudden every single thing I read that Frank Dimora writes resonates solidly with my spirit. Could it be that the Rapture, is meant for the likes of me? Now that I realize that I want to use the time we still have to make sure God will count me as worthy to escape the Tribulation, I remember that God disciplines the ones He loves. So, while other people are getting healed on all the TV churches, I relate more to Paul:
2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NKJ) (7) And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. (8) Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. (10) Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
yesterday I ran across some website where lots of people were saying that Frank Dimora is wrong when he talks about the five foolish virgins, and that the Jewish Holy days have no bearing on the Christian Church, and that Frank "doesn't know what he's talking about" when he says that not all Christians will be raptured. WOW!, those are DANGEROUS statements, because my Bible says, "depart from me
Matthew 7:21 – 23
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
They remind me of all the millions of Catholics, who think because they paid their tithes their future destiny is bought and paid for, I don't think anyone should take things for granted. The pastor of the first Catholic Church I attended school at, in Houston, his name was Father Semen, at Saint Michaels Church, Houston, Texas.
Anyway, my point is? Frank Dimora speaks the truth. And in a humble way. It's just another sign of the times that more people would choose to debate your words than to listen to them for what they are.
