    Israel, Gulf States to Sign Non-Aggression Pact, Says Ex-Qatari PM

Qatar’s former prime minister said on Monday that Israel and the Persian Gulf states would soon sign a non-aggression pact that could also include Morocco. “Now it [Trump’s peace plan] will be followed by a non-aggression agreement between Israel and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE)  in addition to Egypt, Jordan and possibly Morocco,” wrote Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani on Twitter, according to i24 News. The former prime minister said that he was “not against” this kind of agreement, and that the unanimous decision by the Arab League last week to reject the Trump plan was not in the best interests of the region.

EU Countries Pushing for Recognition of State of Palestine

A group of European Union member countries led by Luxembourg is planning to put forward an initiative at a meeting on Monday of European Union foreign ministers to accord joint EU recognition of a Palestinian state. The move is in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn has already discussed the initiative with the foreign ministers of Ireland, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Malta and Slovenia.

IDF strikes Hamas in Gaza after two rockets hit southern Israel

We are preparing for a wide-ranging operation in Gaza,’ Netanyahu tells community leaders

Israeli fighter jets struck Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip early Sunday morning in response to two rockets fired from Gaza at southern Israeli communities on Saturday, according to the Israeli military. The army confirmed that two rockets were fired from the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave, landing in open terrain and causing no damage. According to an Israel Defense Forces statement, a military compound used by Hamas was hit. “This strike will impede the Hamas terror organization’s future abilities,” said the statement. Consequently, Israel announced it was suspending the easing of the sanctions on Gaza, including the expansion of its fishing zone.

Russia Warns Israel of War Over Syria

Russia’s ambassador to Syria this week issued what some saw as a veiled threat should Israel continue bombing Iranian assets in the war-torn country. On February 6, an aerial attack on a target near Damascus killed 20 Syrian and Iranian military officials. It also caused Syrian air defenses to inadvertently fire on an airplane carrying 172 passengers. The plane managed to safely land at a nearby airport. Israel Defense Minister Naftali Bennett later hinted that the attack was just another in a long series of Israeli strikes against Iranian assets that are admittedly in Syria for the purpose of threatening the Jewish state. But Russian Ambassador Alexander Yefimov wasn’t interested in Israeli justifications. In an interview with Sputnik Arabic, Yefimov called the Israeli raids “provocative and very dangerous.” He further cautioned that “this increases the possibility of conflict over Syria.” Since Syria is already in conflict, his warning was taken to mean that the ongoing Israeli raids could eventually result in an armed clash between the Jewish state and Russian forces in the region.

This is part of the battle. If we do not want to boycott all goods, we choose some companies, and this is a form of confrontation,” Nasrallah said in his televised speech. “The Israeli is afraid of death while the American’s weakness is his security and economy,” he added.

Syrian forces consolidate control of Aleppo, air strikes under way

The Syrian army said on Monday it had taken full control of dozens of towns in Aleppo’s northwestern countryside and it would press on with its campaign to wipe out militant groups “wherever they are found.” The advances were made after President Bashar Assad’s forces drove insurgents from the M5 highway linking Aleppo to Damascus, reopening the fastest route between Syria’s two biggest cities for the first time in years in a big strategic gain for Assad. Government air strikes on Monday hit Darat Izza, near the Turkish border about 30 kilometers north of Aleppo city, wounding several civilians and forcing two hospitals to close, according to hospital staff. Witnesses also reported air strikes in southern areas of Idlib province.

Rockets hit a U.S.-led military coalition’s Baghdad headquarters early on Sunday but caused no casualties, a coalition spokesman said, in the latest attack to target U.S. facilities in Iraq. Washington has blamed Iran-backed paramilitary groups for increasingly regular rocketing and shelling of bases hosting U.S. forces in Iraq and of the area around the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Sunday’s attack, before dawn, was carried out with “small rockets” and caused no casualties, the coalition spokesman said in a statement on Twitter. He provided no further details. An Iraqi military statement said three Katyusha rockets had hit the fortified Green Zone which hosts the U.S. Embassy, other foreign missions and Iraqi government buildings. It said a fourth hit a nearby logistics base for Iraqi paramilitary groups.

    7 dead in alleged Israeli attack on Iranian compound in Syria

Three Syrian terrorists and four Iranian members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were killed on Thursday night in an air attack against a military compound near the international airport in Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports. According to the report, a vehicle had also been hit in what “seems to have been an attempt to stop a weapons delivery.” In a rare response to the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that maybe another country did it. “I don’t know what happened last night. Maybe it was the Belgian air force,” Netanyahu said during a Friday interview with Radio Haifa.

The Taliban on Monday officially acknowledged it has reached an agreement with the United States to reduce violence in Afghanistan and said the deal would be signed by the end of February. The statement marked the Taliban’s first public acknowledgement of the agreement in principal announced by the United States on Thursday calling for a seven-day reduction in violence in Afghanistan. While far short of the complete cease-fire sought by the Afghan government, such a commitment would represent a key development in the talks that are ultimately aimed at removing U.S. forces from Afghanistan, where they have been stationed since late 2001. U.S. envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, the chief negotiator with the Taliban, said Sunday he was “cautiously optimistic” the agreement could lead to a more lasting peace in Afghanistan.

   Blast in Balochistan capital Quetta kills 22, wounds 35

An explosion killed 22 people and wounded 35 in Balochistan’s capital Quetta. The wounded were evacuated to Seoul Hospital, Quetta, and a declaration of emergency has been issued at the hospital’s trauma center. Two policemen were among the victims of the explosion that occurred near the Quetta Press Club. Quetta Deputy Inspector General Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that so far, the blast “seems to be a suicide attack”. The blast took place as a demonstration was ongoing near the press club. Several vehicles parked in the vicinity have also been damaged due to the impact of the blast. The Balochistan insurgency is a guerrilla war waged by Baloch nationalists against the governments of Pakistan and Iran.

 Air strikes on Yemen kill 31 civilians after Saudi jet crash

Thirty-one people were killed in air strikes on Yemen Saturday, the United Nations said, the victims of an apparent Saudi-led retaliation after Iran-backed Huthi rebels claimed to have shot down one of its jets. The Tornado aircraft came down Friday in northern Al-Jawf province during an operation to support government forces, a rare shooting down that prompted operations in the area by a Saudi-led military coalition fighting the rebels. The deadly violence follows an upsurge in fighting in northern Yemen between the warring parties that threatens to worsen the war-battered country’s humanitarian crisis.

  Mainline Protestant pastors driving support for same-sex marriage: LifeWay study

A majority of Protestant pastors in the United States still disapprove of same-sex relationships, but the overall approval has grown largely due to mainline pastors, a new study by LifeWay Research reveals. Only about 8 percent of self-identified evangelical Protestant pastors say they have no issues with same-sex marriage, and their percentage has remained the same since 2010, according to a new survey by the Nashville-based research group. However, support among self-identified mainline Protestant pastors for same-sex marriage has jumped from a third (32 percent) in 2010 to almost half (47 percent) in 2020.

   China Raids Churches for ‘Illegal’ Bibles, Threatens Fines up to $1,400

Government officials within China have confiscated Bibles from churches in recent months and threatened fines as part of an intensified crackdown on Christianity and an effort to eradicate “illegal publications,” according to a new report. The campaign has targeted illegal underground churches as well as legal Three-Self churches, which are registered with the government. “If our Bibles are taken away, we have no more,” a pastor of a Three-Self church in Jiangxi province told Bitter Winter, the watchdog behind the report. “We are thinking of asking our congregation members to hide them in the mountains.”  December, around 10 government officials raided a different Three-Self church in Jiangxi in search of “pirated Bibles” either not printed in the country or printed at illegal printers, Bitter Winter reported. The pastor told them the church owned only legal Bibles printed within the country, but the officials nevertheless seized 30 Bibles. According to the persecution watchdog, similar raids have taken place “all over the country” as part of a nationwide campaign to “eradicate pornography and illegal publications.”

Gunmen in Burkina Faso kill 24 men, kidnap 3 youths in attack near church

Gunmen have killed 24 men, including a church pastor, and kidnapped three youths in Burkina Faso, AP reported, citing an official. The attack on Sunday was the latest in a series against religious leaders in the increasingly unstable West African nation. The mayor of Boundore commune, Sihanri Osangola Brigadie, said the attack occurred in the town of Pansy in Yagha province. About 20 attackers separated men from women close to a Protestant church. At least 10 other people were injured. The gunmen reportedly looted oil and rice from shops and forced the three youths they kidnapped to help transport it on their motorbikes. Both Christians and Muslims were killed before the church was set on fire, according to a government security official.

People in the US experiencing flu-like symptoms will be screened for the latest coronavirus that originated from China, according to health officials. Health systems in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle will screen patients through a national flu surveillance program, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced during a briefing on Friday. Officials said the program is likely to expand as more confirmed cases are expected in the coming days and weeks. The move follows reports of the 15th coronavirus infection in the US and the deaths of more than 1,300 people in China. CDC officials said that there could be undetected cases of the mysterious illness in communities across the US, as the country experiences a dramatic spike in flu as the season approaches its halfway point.

Swarms of locusts overwhelm Yemen’s Taiz

Locust swarms plagued several parts of war-ravaged Yemen particularly in the southwestern province of Taiz, a Yemeni official said Monday. “The plague of locusts is still expanding across the country’s agricultural areas and badly affects the pasturelands and crops,” the local government official said on condition of anonymity. He said that Yemen’s government took no necessary measures to confront the outbreak of locusts that’s threatening the local economies. “The government’s recent capability is too weak and it is unable to confront such plague,” he added. He urged the United Nations to help reduce the effects caused by the plague of locusts.

Storm Dennis enters history books as the second-strongest North Atlantic extratropical cyclone, causes major flooding in the United Kingdom

Storm Dennis hit several western European countries over the weekend with very heavy rain and hurricane-force winds. Minimum central air pressure of 920 hPa was recorded on Saturday, February 15, making it the second-strongest North Atlantic extratropical cyclone since records began more than 150 years ago; just 7 hPa short of the all-time North Atlantic record, set by the Braer Storm of 1993. The storm left at least 2 people dead in the United Kingdom, dumped more than a month’s worth of rain on South Wales, prompted the UK Environment Agency to issue a record number of flood warnings for one day, and caused widespread severe flooding across parts of the country. A yellow wind warning was still in place across the north and west of the UK on Monday, February 17. It also affected Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, northern Spain, and France.

 I plead with anyone who has come to my site to take what Jesus has warned us about the last day signs. There are many of those signs I show you almost on a daily basis as with the sign of Pestilence (disease).  Look at what Jesus warned you below and then view the current news concerning the deadly coronavirus that is spreading around the world currently. Each day the number of people dying from this virus is growing.  Please keep in mind in my post today I am only covering two of the many last day signs Jesus warned us about. If you keep coming back to my site you will see more of these last day signs. One thing is very clear. Jesus said when you shall see all these things know that it is near even at the door. You will not find any other generation who has seen all these signs together all at the same time. This is a warning to you to get ready to see Jesus fulfill His promise to return. God help anyone who is not born again in Christ when He does come back for His Church.  If you do reject Jesus after seeing all these signs you had better read the book of Revelation to find out what your going to have to live through. Sorry I take that back, your chances of living through that time period are extremely low.

As you can see from the information below the deadly coronavirus is not stopping.

Coronavirus: Which countries have confirmed cases? Keep in mind, in China the virus started with only one person and now look at what has happened.

Australia – 15

Australia has confirmed 15 cases of the virus as of February 15, including three people who have already been discharged from hospital, according to the Australian government.

Most of the patients arrived in the country from Wuhan or Hubei province.

Belgium – 1

Belgium said on February 4 that one of nine Belgian citizens repatriated from Wuhan had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Cambodia – 1

Cambodia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on January 27.

Minister of Health Mam Bunheng said the patient was a 60-year-old Chinese national in the coastal city of Sihanoukville.

Canada – 8

Canada has confirmed seven cases of the coronavirus as of February 15 – three in the province of Ontario and four in British Columbia.

China – 68,567

As of February 16, 68,500 people in mainland China were confirmed as having been infected with the virus, most of them in and around Wuhan. At least 1,665 people have died, China’s national health commission said.

The city of Macau, a gambling hub hugely popular with mainland tourists, has confirmed 10 cases.

Hong Kong reported its first death from the disease on February 4 of a man who had travelled from Wuhan. Including the deceased man, 57 people have been confirmed as having been infected as of February 15.

Egypt – 1

Egypt’s health ministry reported its first confirmed case of the coronavirus on February 14. It is the first known case in Africa.

Officials said the infected person was a foreign national who was being kept in isolation.

Finland – 1

A Chinese tourist who was admitted to hospital for tests was confirmed on January 29 as infected with the coronavirus.

The patient is said to be a 32-year-old woman from Wuhan.

France – 12

On February 15, France reported the first death in Europe – an 80-year-old Chinese tourist.

There are 12 confirmed cases in France, five of which are British citizens who had shared a chalet at a French ski resort with someone who had recently travelled to Singapore.

Germany – 16

Germany registered 16 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of February 15, a majority of those infected in the southern state of Bavaria.

Almost all the patients in Germany are employees of auto parts supplier Webasto, who were infected by a colleague from China who was attending a course in Germany.

India – 3

On February 3, a third positive case of the coronavirus was reported in India’s southern state of Kerala, the country’s health ministry said.

Italy – 3

One of 56 Italians evacuated from Wuhan has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the health ministry said on February 7, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 3.

On January 30, two Chinese tourists were reported as having tested positive for the virus.

Japan – 57 + 355

A total of 355 people on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship docked at Yokohama had tested positive for the virus as of February 16.

Japan does not include the people on board as part of its national tally, in accordance with WHO guidance. Japan’s national tally is 41.

On February 13, an 80-year-old became the country’s first death from the virus.

Malaysia – 22

Malaysia on February 15 confirmed that a US passenger on a cruise ship that had been turned away by several countries had tested positive for the virus, bringing the country’s total to 22.

The woman flew from Cambodia, where the Westerdam was eventually allowed to dock, to Malaysia along with 144 others from the ship, health authorities said, adding that the woman was the only person among the passengers to test positive for the virus.

Nepal – 1

Nepal said on January 24 that a 32-year-old man arriving from Wuhan had tested positive for coronavirus.

The patient, who was initially quarantined, recovered and was discharged. The government said surveillance has been increased at the airport “and suspicious patients entering Nepal are being monitored”.

The Philippines – 3

Philippine health officials confirmed a third case of coronavirus on February 5. The country also had the first death from coronavirus outside China, which was announced on February 2.

Russia – 2

Russia reported two cases of coronavirus on January 31. Both patients – Chinese nationals – have recovered and were discharged from hospital.

Singapore – 72

Singapore’s health ministry said the city-state had 72 confirmed cases as of February 15.

The country has the highest tallies outside China, including mounting evidence of local transmission.

South Korea – 29

On February 11, South Korea reported one new case of the virus, bringing the country’s total to 28.

Spain – 2

Spanish authorities confirmed the country’s second case of coronavirus on February 9 – a British man in Mallorca.

Sri Lanka – 1

Sri Lanka confirmed its first case of coronavirus on January 27.

The patient was identified as a 43-year-old Chinese woman from Hubei province who had arrived in Sri Lanka as a tourist. She was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Sweden – 1

On January 31, Sweden’s Public Health Agency said a woman had tested positive for coronavirus and was being kept in isolation at a hospital in southern Sweden.

The woman, who is not gravely ill according to the agency, had visited the Wuhan area in China and began coughing after she arrived in Sweden. She contacted a hospital in southern Sweden, where she is being treated.

Taiwan – 20

Taiwan confirmed its eighteenth case on February 9: a young woman in her 20s who has not shown any symptoms of the viral infection, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said at a press briefing.

Thailand – 34

Thailand confirmed one new case on February 15, bringing the total number of coronavirus patients in the country to 34.

The latest patient is a 35-year-old Thai medical worker who was infected through contact with a patient, said Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchia, director-general of the Department of Disease Control.

Fourteen patients in Thailand have recovered from the infection and returned to their homes.

United Arab Emirates – 8

The UAE confirmed one new case on February 10, bringing the country’s total to eight.

The country’s health ministry said the patient was an Indian national who had come into contact with a recently diagnosed person.

On February 1, the UAE became the first country in the Middle East to confirm cases of the coronavirus.

United Kingdom – 9

The UK confirmed one new case of coronavirus on February 12, taking the total number in the country to nine.

All cases are in England, while the latest case is the first to be recorded in the capital, London.

United States – 15

The US had confirmed 15 cases of the virus as of February 13. The most recent case was a passenger on an evacuation flight from China who had been under quarantine in Texas.

Vietnam – 16

On February 13, the health ministry confirmed the nation’s 16th case of coronavirus. The authorities have said at least 11 of the cases were in the northern province of Vinh Phuc.

The Son Loi commune in Vinh Phuc was placed under a 14-day quarantine by Vietnamese authorities on February 13.

 One of the other last day signs Jesus gave us to watch for is the sign you see below concerning the call for peace and safety and what will take place when you hear that call.  That call as warned is has already taken place and what is to follow is taking shape as the enemies of Israel are stepping up their attacks.  You will see a photo with a list of nations below with the label Psalm 83 war.  We believe that the sudden destruction that is to come will be that Psalm 83 war against the Jews.  Israel isn’t going to allow the Palestinians to keep launching rockets at them so look for this coming war! There is no question we are witnessing the signs of this coming war as you will see below.

   I Thessalonians 5:3,4: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”

 Israel strikes Gaza, cancels easing of restrictions

JERUSALEM: The Israeli air force attacked Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip on Saturday in retaliation to rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave into Israel, a military statement said. The exchange of fire between both sides has escalated since last month after US President Donald Trump unveiled his Middle East peace plan, angrily rejected by the Palestinians as a capitulation to Israeli objectives.”  “Palestinians in Gaza have launched rockets, mortar shells and balloons rigged with explosives at southern Israel on a near-daily basis since Trump’s plan was unveiled.”Fighter planes and helicopters have targeted positions of the terrorist organisation Hamas in central Gaza Strip,” including a military post, said the Israeli military, which earlier reported two projectiles had been fired into the Jewish state from the Gaza Strip.

 Grand Mufti issues decree banning Palestinians from supporting peace plan

In an embarrassment for the Palestinian Authority, its president, Mahmoud Abbas, pulled a planned resolution to reject the Trump administration’s peace plan, which he had intended to put before the UN Security Council on Tuesday. According to diplomats, the resolution didn’t have the nine out of 15 votes to win support, barring a veto, Agence-France Presse reports. That veto would have certainly come anyway from the U.S. According to Israel Hayom, the PA collapse came after “an American-Israeli blitz” that put pressure, including the threat of financial penalties, on members of the UN Security Council not to support the resolution, which was put forward by Indonesia and Tunisia. The Israeli team at the UN expressed satisfaction at the results of the pressure campaign.

PM threatens Hamas with dire ‘surprise’; Gaza answers with fresh rocket attack

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday threatened Hamas leaders with “the surprise of their lives” if a spate of attacks from the Gaza Strip didn’t come to an end. Minutes later, yet another rocket was fired from Gaza at Israel’s south. “I’m telling you as prime minister, I don’t rush to war,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Channel 20 on Tuesday night. “I don’t puff out my chest, bang drums and blow trumpets. But we’re preparing for Hamas the surprise of their lives. I won’t say what it is, but it will be different from anything that came before.” The last several weeks have seen a marked uptick in rocket and incendiary balloon attacks from the Strip, raising tensions and threatening fragile truce talks. Defense Minister Naftali Bennett similarly issued a warning to Hamas leaders in Gaza, warning on Sunday that Israel would take “lethal action against them” if their “irresponsible behavior” didn’t cease.

Sanhedrin Gets Authorization to Use Their Trees for Third Temple

Five years ago, the Sanhedrin began planting in preparation for the needs of the Third Temple and today is the first day the fruit of their labor can be used. For the first three years of their growth, grapevines or fruit trees planted in Israel are categorized as orla (ערלה, literally ‘uncircumcised’ and it is prohibited to eat the fruit. When the Temple stood, the fruit of the fourth year was considered neat revai (נטע רבעי) and had to be brought to be eaten in Jerusalem. In the Hebron Hills, the Sanhedrin planted 30 Cedars of Lebanon and several pomegranate trees. In Kochav Hashachar overlooking the Jordan Valley, they planted half an acre of grapevines surrounded by Cedars. In Shaarei Tikvah in Samaria, cinnamon trees, one of the 11 ingredients in the Temple incense, are ready to be planted. In Itamar, a vineyard of 200 vines has been dedicated to Temple use. Seven date palms were planted in the Western Negev for use in the Shavuot offering. The Sanhedrin has initiated several projects focused on establishing Jerusalem as a universal House of Prayer for All Nations. One such project was a concert held on the anniversary of the creation of the world. Another project is the establishment of an Organization of 70 Nations. The first meeting of this organization was highlighted by a Noahide sacrifice on the Mount of Olives.

The UN human rights office released Wednesday a long-anticipated report which names companies with ties to Israeli West Bank settlements. OHCHR said it has reasonable grounds to believe that 112 business entities [For full list see below] have ties to Israeli settlements in the West Bank, 94 based in Israel, and 18 in six other countries. In 2019, the publication of a UN database of companies with business ties to Israeli settlements in the West Bank was delayed, drawing the ire of activists who campaigned for it for three years. The issue has been highly sensitive as companies appearing in such a database could be targeted for boycotts or divestment aimed at stepping up pressure on Israel over its West Bank settlements, which most countries and the United Nations view as illegal. Goods produced there include fruit, vegetables and wine.

   Protests rock Beirut as government seeks MPs confidence

Hundreds of people were injured in Beirut on Tuesday in clashes between security forces and protesters who rejected the new government as it sought to win a parliamentary vote of confidence. Smoke wafted through Beirut where riot police fired tear gas at protesters seeking to block MPs from reaching the heavily barricaded parliament. The Lebanese Red Cross said it treated 373 people for injuries, taking 45 of them to hospital. One of the world’s most heavily indebted states, Lebanon is facing an unprecedented financial crisis rooted in decades of state waste and corruption which have fueled public anger. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri was quoted saying Lebanon should seek IMF technical help to draw up an emergency plan though it could not surrender itself to the IMF because the nation could not bear its conditions. In comments reported by an-Nahar newspaper and confirmed to Reuters by a government source, Berri also said Lebanon should decide whether to pay maturing foreign debt next month based on IMF advice.

Egypt makes surprise move against Hamas and Iran

An Egyptian delegation that arrived in the Gaza Strip on Monday urged Hamas terror group to defuse the tensions with Israel and voiced Cairo’s concern over Hamas’ ties with Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. According to Al-Arabiya, Egyptians also warned Hamas against backing militia groups seeking to destabilize the region or joining Iran in any military escalation. London-based Al-Akhbar also reported that Cairo relayed a message from Israel, saying that the Jewish state would retaliate if rocket attacks and incendiary balloon launches proceed – and the strike will have the support of both the US and larger international community.

Turkey-backed rebels down Syrian govt helicopter in northwest Syria

Russia says Turkish army is aggravating situation in Syria’s Idlib

Turkey-backed Syrian rebels have downed a helicopter believed to belong to the Syrian government in northwestern Syria’s Nairab town, Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported on Tuesday, as clashes continued in the region. TRT Haber did not provide any further details. The incident comes a day after Syrian government forces killed five Turkish soldiers in northwestern Syria, prompting retaliation from the Turkish troops in the region. Russia said on Wednesday that the presence of Turkish troops and armor in Syria’s Idlib region was making the situation there much worse as was the transport of weapons and ammunition across the Syrian-Turkish border. Russia’s Defence Ministry made the complaint in a statement after President Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey’s military would strike Russian-backed Syrian forces by air or ground anywhere in Syria if another Turkish soldier was hurt as the Assad government tried to regain control of Idlib province.

Syria: U.S. troops open fire on locals in northeast, killing 1

Syrian media said Wednesday that a Syrian civilian was killed and another was wounded when U.S. troops opened fire on locals who had tried to block a U.S. convoy from driving through a checkpoint in a village in the country’s northeast. The state SANA news agency said the locals had gathered at the army checkpoint in the village of Khirbet Ammu, east of the town of Qamishli, pelting the U.S. convoy with stones and taking down a U.S. flag from one vehicle. At that point, U.S. troops fired with live ammunition and smoke bombs at the residents, the report said. There was no immediate comment from the U.S.-led coalition to the report, which could not be independently confirmed.

   Erdogan threatens Damascus, slams Moscow over Idlib ‘massacre’

Turkey will strike Syrian regime forces “everywhere” if its soldiers come under renewed attack, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Wednesday, while also accusing Damascus ally Russia of committing “massacres” in Idlib. Erdogan’s threats follow direct clashes between Turkish and the Syrian regime forces over the past 10 days, which have also strained his relations with Moscow, the key backer of President Bashar al-Assad. Turkey has beefed up its positions in Idlib — the last rebel bastion in Syria — with hundreds of vehicles carrying commandos, howitzers, and soldiers crossing the border over the last few days. “I hereby declare that we will strike regime forces everywhere from now on regardless of the Sochi deal if any tiny bit of harm comes to our soldiers at observation posts or elsewhere,” Erdogan told a meeting of his ruling party in parliament.

Heavily-armed police and soldiers in El Salvador have forced their way into parliament, demanding the approval of a $109m (£85m) loan to better equip them. They entered the building as President Nayib Bukele was about to address lawmakers. Earlier, he gave them seven days to back his loan plan. Opposition politicians called the appearance of armed men in parliament an unprecedented act of intimidation. But over the weekend, most MPs opted not to sit for a debate over the proposed bill. With no quorum in parliament, the president called on his supporters to descend on the parliament building, the BBC’s Central America correspondent Will Grant reports. About 50,000 pro-government demonstrators turned out. President Bukele told them to be back in the streets within a week if MPs did not debate the bill.  His political opponents accused him of threatening them and turning increasingly authoritarian.

U.S. Household Debt Exceeds $14 Trillion for the First Time

Americans increased their borrowing for the 22nd straight quarter as more households took out loans to buy homes or refinance existing mortgages, according to a report released today from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Total U.S. household debt rose by $601 billion in the fourth quarter from a year earlier, or 1.4%, surpassing $14 trillion for the first time, the New York Fed’s quarterly household credit and debt report showed. That’s $1.5 trillion above the previous peak in the third quarter of 2008. Overall household debt is now 26.8% above the second-quarter 2013 trough. Mortgage borrowing rose by $120 billion to $9.56 trillion. The rate for a 30-year mortgage has fallen by about 100 basis points over the past year, adding to home purchasers’ buying power. For example, a $500,000, 30-year loan costs about $300 less per month.

Pope Pushes One World Religion on Israel’s Independence Day

Historically, the Vatican was no friend to the Jews but its new initiative aligns the Catholic Church with Islam in a one-world religion that may be the biggest threat ever to the Jewish People. At an address to Vatican diplomats last month, Pope Francis announced that the Vatican will be hosting a global event with titled,  “Reinventing the Global Compact on Education.” “A global educational pact is needed to educate us in universal solidarity and a new humanism,” the Pope said when he first proposed the summit. A Vatican-backed website to promote the pact added: “Educating young people in fraternity, in learning to overcome divisions and conflicts, promote hospitality, justice and peace: Pope Francis has invited everyone who cares about the education of the young generation to sign a Global Pact, to create a global change of mentality through education.” The Pope described the need for the global alliance. The education initiative is a continuation of the Pope’s global vision as laid out in his Document on the Human Brotherhood for World Peace and Common Living Together signed by Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, in February 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

  Germany reports outbreak of H5N8 bird flu in backyard poultry

Germany has reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu virus in a backyard in the southwestern part of the country, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Monday. The virus killed 44 birds out of a flock of 69 in Bretzfeld, in the Baden-Wurttemberg region, the Paris-based OIE said, citing a report from Germany’s food and agriculture ministry. “All poultry and captive birds have been culled and safely disposed of on Feb. 7, 2020. No poultry, poultry products or captive birds have been dispatched,” it said in the report. A case of H5N8 bird flu had been confirmed in a wild bird in the eastern German state of Brandenburg in January but no birds on farms were involved, the ministry had then said.

New virus discovered in Brazil

Scientists report a new virus was found in Brazil that contains genes previously unknown to man. Named after the Tupi water-goddess, Yara, 90% of the genes comprising the virus were previously unknown, according to a report published this week by bioRxiv.org. Such of the genes are known as orphan genes as they lack any similarity to other genes. Only six genes out of the 74 found resemble genes found in public databases, bioRxiv.org reports. The virus might be a distant, much altered offspring of the Acanthamoeba or a member of that group that took a brand new evolutionary path. Two of the scientists involved in the new study, Bernard La Scola of Aix-Marseille University and Jonatas Abrahao of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, discovered Giant Viruses in 2018, Science Alert reports.

These travelers arrived in the U.S. from mainland China outside Hubei Province with no known high-risk exposure. These individuals are asymptomatic (no symptoms) and are self-isolating at home.’

Half of the one million animal and plant species on Earth facing extinction are insects, and their disappearance could be catastrophic for humankind, scientists have said in a “warning to humanity”. “The current insect extinction crisis is deeply worrying,” said Pedro Cardoso, a biologist at the Finnish Museum of Natural History and lead author of a review study published Monday. “Yet, what we know is only the tip of the iceberg,” he told AFP. The disappearance of bugs that fly, crawl, burrow, jump and walk on water is part of a gathering mass extinction event, only the sixth in the last half-billion years. The last one was 66 million years ago, when an errant space rock wiped out land-based dinosaurs and most other life forms. This time we are to blame. “Human activity is responsible for almost all insect population declines and extinctions,” Cardoso told AFP. The main drivers are dwindling and degraded habitat, followed by pollutants — especially insecticides — and invasive species.

Rare snowfall blankets Baghdad for the second time in more than 100 years

Residents of Baghdad, Iraq woke up to the city blanketed in rare snow on Tuesday, February 11, 2020– a sight last seen in 2008 and the second time in more than a century. According to the Iraqi Meteorological Organization, the country is exposed to a cold polar air mass which peaked on the same day. The last recorded snowfall in the city was in 2008, but it was mostly slushy and occurred quickly. Prior to that, about a century has passed since Baghdad saw flakes. The Iraqi Meteorological Organization said Tuesday’s snow was due to the country’s exposure to a cold polar air mass, which reached its climax that day. “Snowfall may continue until Wednesday given the very cold weather,” said Amer Al-Jaberi, head of the agency.

   24-Hour Terror Wave Hits Jerusalem With Car-Ramming and Shootings

Islamic Jihad praises surge of violence, calls for more attacks

At least 14 soldiers were wounded, one critically, in a terrorist attack in Jerusalem early Thursday morning, according to police and medical services. The attack, a vehicular assault, occurred at 2 a.m. at Jerusalem’s First Station and is being investigated as a terror attack, according to police. A manhunt is underway for the driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene. Later on Thursday, an Arab terrorist shot and lightly injured a police officer in an attack at the entrance to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Policemen at the site shot and killed the terrorist. The attack occurred just hours after the car-ramming attack. Tensions in Israel have been high in recent days following the publication of the White House’s “Deal of the Century” peace plan, to which the Palestinian Authority reacted with violent opposition.

Iran exploits vacuum of power in southern Syria to threaten Israel

Syrian regime media reported airstrikes across a wide area around Damascus on Thursday morning. Incidents took place near Marj al-Sultan Airport, about 8 km. north of Damascus International Airport, at a key interchange of the M5 northeast of Damascus and south of the city near Kiswa and Izra. Meanwhile, Damascus is distracted by a major battle in northern Syria against Turkish-backed Syrian rebels and extremists. Iran may be maneuvering to increase its role in southern Syria amid the tensions as the Syrian regime focuses on fighting in northern Syria’s Idlib. Iran’s role in Syria is well known. It has sent members of the IRGC to Syria to support the Assad regime, and it has recruited tens of thousands of fighters, mostly Shi’ites, to go to Syria and fight. Reports indicate that more than $30 billion has been spent by Iran in Syria and 80,000 fighters recruited and trained by the IRGC have travelled to Syria. However, the overall numbers of IRGC members in Syria may be under a thousand. Tens of thousands of the recruited fighters are said to be from other countries. The fighters are only one layer of the Iranian role. Iran uses roads and airports to move weapons and people to Syria and to Hezbollah.

Olmert event on Abbas’ agenda for NY trip to condemn Israel

Former prime minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will hold a joint press conference against the Trump peace plan while the latter is in New York next week to push for a UN Security Council condemnation of Israel. The two have a meeting scheduled in Manhattan in which they will comment on the US plan for Israel and the Palestinians, and take questions from the press. Abbas will address the Security Council on Tuesday. The PA is working to promote a Security Council resolution coming out against the Trump plan and condemning Israel’s plan to annex settlements. The US has said it will veto the resolution, but it is likely to pass in the General Assembly.

Once again the Jewish population in the United Kingdom has been subjected to an unprecedented number of anti-Semitic incidents. According to an annual study by The Community Security Trust (CST), a total of 1,805 anti-Semitic incidents were reported in 2019, an increase of seven percent from 2018. “2019 was another difficult year for British Jews and it is no surprise that recorded anti-Semitic incidents reached yet another high,” said CST Chief Executive David Delew. “It is clear that both social media and mainstream politics are places where anti-Semitism and racism need to be driven out, if things are to improve in the future,” he added. Although the rise of the far-left Labour party contributed significantly to the numbers, the report notes that members of the far-right’s contribution to anti-Semitism could not be ignored. Every month more than 100 anti-Semitic incidents were recorded, with February and December being the highest months with 182 and 184 respectively.

  A dozen killed in Israeli airstrike on Syria, reports say

An airstrike blamed on Israel hit Syrian army positions and pro-Iranian militia near Damascus in the early hours of Thursday morning, Syria’s Sana news agency reported. “Our air defenses confronted an Israeli attack,” between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. in two waves, the regime’s mouthpiece said. The report said that the army successfully shot down most of the incoming missiles, which it claimed were launched from airspace above South Lebanon and the Golan Heights. In terms of casualties, Sana said eight soldiers were injured and some damage was also caused. The opposition’s Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has observers on the ground, said that 12 Syrians and Iran-backed fighters were killed in all, in positions held by pro-Iranian forces near the Syrian capital and at the Mazzeh military air base that is located just outside Damascus. Other media reports have the number of dead at 14 The group said that a “large number of missiles” caused a fire at the Scientific Studies and Research Center in the Damascus suburb of Jamraya. Ostensibly a civilian center, intelligence experts believe that one of the Center’s main projects is the development of biological and chemical weapons. Israel has not commented on the strike, which according to Syrian media is the third attack in as many months on Syrian and pro-Iranian groups in the country.

Iraq considers deepening military ties with Russia

Iraq and Russia discussed prospects for deepening military coordination, Iraqi Defense Ministry said Thursday, amid a strain in Baghdad-Washington relations after a U.S. airstrike killed a top Iranian general inside Iraq. The ministry statement followed a meeting in Baghdad between Iraqi army chief of staff Lt. Gen. Othman Al-Ghanimi and Iraq’s Russian Ambassador Maksim Maksimov, as well as a newly arrived defense attache. The meeting comes during an uncertain moment in the future of Iraq-U.S. military relations, following the Jan. 3 U .S. drone strike that killed Iran’s most powerful military commander, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, and Iraqi senior militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis near Baghdad airport. The attack continues to create friction, prompting powerful Shiite parties to call for an overhaul of the existing strategic set-up between Iraq and the U.S.-led coalition.

   More Turkish reinforcements in Syria; Russian troops killed

Turkey sent more reinforcements into northwestern Syria on Thursday, setting up new positions in an attempt to stop a Syrian government offensive on the last rebel stronghold in the war-torn country, state media and opposition activists said. The move came after a rare confrontation between Turkey and Syria on Monday that killed seven Turkish soldiers and a Turkish civilian member of the military, as well as 13 Syrian soldiers. In Moscow, the Foreign Ministry announced that Russian soldiers have been killed in a northern Syrian province alongside Turkish servicemen, without saying when the incident occurred. The ministry blamed “terrorists” for the deaths, saying that the attacks in Idlib province intensified in January.

Sara Anzalone, 21, said she came from New York to show her support to progressive groups that called for Trump’s removal from office. “I think that getting a foreign foreign power to interfere with our country is just completely against the constitution and completely out of his power,” Anzalone said. “And I really think that he should be held responsible and it really kind of makes me pissed off that he could have been held accountable today.”

The Chinese doctor who first sounded the alarm about the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan died in the early hours Friday local time. Li Wenliang, 34, was declared dead at 2:58 am after “emergency treatment” at Wuhan Central Hospital. The hospital had denied reports earlier Thursday from Chinese state media and the World Health Organization that a doctor accused of “spreading rumors” about the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak had died of the virus. Hospital officials told the South China Morning Post early Friday local time that Li, was still alive at the time and remained in critical condition after receiving life-saving treatment.

The WHO sends out 250,000 test kits for a pandemic 

Not long after reporting that the novel coronavirus isn’t a problem at all, the World Health Organization (WHO) has suddenly decided to ship out a whopping 250,000 coronavirus test kits to monitoring sites all around the world. The kits will soon be sent from Germany to 70 different laboratories the world over, according to Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the Outbreak Investigation Task Force at Institute Pasteur‘s Center for Global Health in Paris. During a recent briefing before United Nations’ member states, Kerkhove explained that each of the lab recipients, located in Africa, the United States, Europe and Asia, is specialized to handle this type of coronavirus testing.

Abbas to push UN resolution on Trump peace plan: officials

President Mahmud Abbas will travel to the United Nations next week to push for a Security Council resolution condemning US President Donald Trump’s peace proposals, Palestinian officials said Wednesday. The resolution will almost certainly be vetoed by the United States. “The draft resolution that will be voted on in the Security Council will include the rejection of the Trump-Netanyahu deal,” Saleh Rafat, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, told AFP, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He called Trump’s plan, which Netanyahu enthusiastically supports, “the opposite of the UN Security Council resolutions on the Palestinian conflict.” If vetoed at the Security Council, the issue will be taken to the UN General Assembly, Rafat added.

Quarter of EU states refuse to condemn Israel, so new foreign policy chief issues his own angry statement. Earlier this week, Borrell urgently convened the EU to vote on a resolution condemning Trump’s plan and Israel’s intention to use it as a green light to annex large swaths of the so-called “West Bank.” But Borrell was thwarted.  Such foreign policy decisions and statements require the full consensus of all 27 EU member states. And guess what? Not all 27 European nations seem to have a problem with Trump’s plan, or perhaps even with Israel finally exercising sovereignty over its biblical heartland. According to Israeli media, six countries voted against the resolution. They were Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, and two unnamed states. No doubt incensed, Borrell decided to release the statement under his own name. “We are especially concerned by statements on the prospect of annexation of the Jordan Valley and other parts of the West Bank,” said Borrell said, despite the fact that officially he was speaking only for himself. “Steps towards annexation, if implemented, could not pass unchallenged,” Borrell went on to threaten in what Israel Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lior Haiat called a “regrettable and odd” diplomatic assault on the Jewish state.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Palestinians to wage jihad against Israel and said the Trump peace plan will die even sooner than President Donald Trump. He made his remarks Wednesday in a Tehran speech marking the 41st anniversary of the Iranian Revolution. He also called on Palestinians to wage jihad against the U.S. Khamenei said ‘The Americans are taking comfort in the belief that choosing a big name for the plot against the Palestinian nation will help it to succeed.” But that the “foolish and evil” scheme “has been working to their own detriment from the very beginning,” Iran’s PressTV reported. He said that the plan “will definitely end in failure.” “The Americans have made a deal with the Zionists over something that is not theirs [to give away in the first place]. Palestine belongs to Palestinians, and making decisions concerning it is exclusive to them,” he said.

Red Color sirens were sounded on Tuesday night, shortly after midnight, in Netivot and in other communities near the Gaza border. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed that three rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israeli territory. The rockets exploded in open areas. There were no reports of damages, but two people suffered light injuries after falling while making their way to a protected space. They were treated at the scene. Over the last week, there has been an uptick in the number of rocket and incendiary balloon attacks from Gaza on southern Israel. On Tuesday evening, incendiary balloons were found near Kibbutz Dvir, in Lehavim, in the Har Hevron Regional Council, and in Kibbutz Nir-Am.

Israeli forces demolish illegal settler buildings, arrest rioters

Israeli Civil Administration, along with Border Police and IDF forces have begun demolishing several structures in Shlomo Hill near Kokhav HaShahar in the West Bank on Wednesday morning, according to TPS. Two illegal structures were demolished as dozens of settlers began rioting in the area to stop the security forces from demolishing the structures. Three of the rioters have been arrested for entering a closed military area and assaulting the security forces.

Seventeen-year-old Mohammad Salman Toameh Al-Hadad was shot in the chest with live fire and died after being evacuated to the city hospital, according to the ministry. According to witnesses, Al-Hadad was wounded during clashes in the neighborhood of Bab al-Zawiyah. Troops fired both live fire and rubber bullets, witnesses said. The Israeli army said in a statement that Al-Hadad was shot during “a violent riot in the city of Hebron,” after he had thrown Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers. “For several days there have been violent disturbances in the city of Hebron next to the Jewish area with the participation of dozens of Palestinians who are throwing stones, burning tires and throwing firebombs at IDF troops and the security forces,” the military said in a statement.

ISIL steps up attacks in Syria and Iraq, officials say

U.S. defense and intelligence officials say the special forces operation that killed former Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria last October has done little to hinder the terror group. Instead, the Defense Intelligence Agency warns the organization’s command and control structure, as well as many of its clandestine networks remain intact, and recent turmoil in the region due to Turkey’s incursion into northeastern Syria has played to its advantage. “ISIS exploited the Turkish incursion and subsequent drawdown of U.S. troops to reconstitute capabilities and resources within Syria and strengthen its ability to plan attacks abroad,” according to Defense Department Principal Inspector General Glenn Fine in a new report, using an acronym for the terror group. And should the U.S. be forced to pull troops from Iraq following protests there, “ISIS would likely resurge,” Fine added, citing additional DIA analysis.     The findings come less than a week after U.S. defense officials revealed the true identity of Baghdadi’s replacement, cautioning he appears to have IS positioned to eventually make its presence felt in the region, and perhaps on the world stage.

Anti-government demonstrators faced off against followers of influential cleric Moqtada Sadr in protest squares across Iraq Tuesday, a day after one demonstrator was killed in a clash between the two sides. Sadr, an enigmatic militiaman-turned-politician, backed the anti-government rallies when they erupted in October but has split with other demonstrators over the nomination of Mohammad Allawi as prime minister. The cleric endorsed Allawi while other protesters rejected him, charging he is too close to the ruling elite they have been demonstrating against for four months. In the southern city of Diwaniyah on Tuesday, the rift escalated into a fistfight between young anti-regime demonstrators and Sadr backers, who are recognisable by their signature blue head caps, an AFP correspondent said. Police intervened to separate the two camps but the young protesters broke into chants against Sadr, Iraqi authorities as well as Iran, accused by demonstrators of backing the government’s crackdown against them.

  Turkey demands Syrian army exit rebel areas, threatens force

Turkey’s president threatened Wednesday to use force against Syrian government forces if they don’t pull back to an earlier cease-fire line in northern Syria by the end of the month. Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks to members of his ruling party followed rare direct clashes Monday between Turkish and Syrian troops inside Syria, which killed several Turkish and Syrian personnel. Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces have been advancing deeper into the northwestern province of Idlib, the country’s last rebel stronghold, since December. Turkey – a strong backer of some of the rebels – has a dozen military observation posts in Idlib province, which borders Turkey. “If the (Assad) regime does not retreat to areas behind the observations posts, Turkey will be forced to take matters into its own hands,” Erdogan said. He said two of the Turkish observation posts are now behind Syrian lines.

On February 4, 2020, the United States on Tuesday threw its support behind NATO ally Turkey over its reprisals against the Syrian army following regime shelling. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the mortar attack on Turkish posts in Syria’s Idlib province “a grave escalation” and said US officials “fully support Turkey’s justified self-defense actions in response.” Meanwhile on the 5^th, The United States has halted a secretive military intelligence cooperation program with Turkey that for years helped Ankara target Kurdish PKK militants, four U.S. officials say. The U.S. decision to indefinitely suspend the program, which has not been previously reported, was made in response to Turkey’s cross-border military incursion into Syria in October, the U.S. officials said, revealing the extent of the damage to ties between the NATO allies from the incident. The U.S. officials, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the United States late last year stopped flying the intelligence collection missions that targeted the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which both the United States and Turkey classify as terrorists.

Military Talks to End Libya Fighting Underway

U.N.-sponsored military and security talks aimed at achieving a lasting cease-fire in Libya are underway in Geneva. The negotiations are held as Libya’s warring parties continue to violate a temporary truce agreed to in mid-January. Five high-ranking officers appointed by the Government of National Accord in Libya and five other high-ranking military officers appointed by rebel commander Khalifa Haftar are in attendance. This is the first time ever that high-ranking officers from both sides are getting together to talk peace. U.N. Libya envoy Ghassan Salame says both sides agree on the necessity to turn the truce into a permanent cease-fire. But how they will achieve that, he says, is very much an open question. “That is why these talks in Geneva are meant to listen carefully to the position of the two sides on what are the conditions for them to accept this translation of the truce into a permanent and lasting cease-fire,” Salame said.

On Tuesday, Houthi-led forces reportedly launch a missile attack on a military attack used by Saudi-backed forces in central Yemen, damaging ammunition storage facilities. Houthi militias forces supported by local Popular Committees militias brought down a Saudi-led coalition UAV over the western coastal province of al-Hudaydah, Al-Masirah, a TV channel affiliated with the militia group, has reported, citing a military source. The drone was reportedly shot down in the airspace above the mountainous area in the district of al-Tahita, some 230 km west of the capital of Sana’a, on Wednesday afternoon. No further details were made available about the incident, and the Saudi-led coalition to has yet to comment on the veracity of the report. Also Wednesday, a Houthi source said that multiple Saudi-led coalition mercenaries were killed and their munitions destroyed during an offensive against Houthi-held territories in another part of the province.

Coronavirus could cause collapse of world’s supply chains

The great unknowable about the impact of the coronavirus for businesses, investors and economic policymakers is just how much damage it will inflict on the global economy. That’s why the markets are gyrating, with the US stockmarket tumbling on Friday and then recovering half those losses on Monday. Oil prices have fallen more than 20 per cent since the outbreak, copper is down about 13 per cent, iron ore prices have fallen about $US10 a tonne and soy beans, which were supposed to benefit from the Phase One trade deal between the US and China, have fallen about 8 per cent. It is obvious that China’s economy will be hard hit by the virus. The epicentre of the crisis, Wuhan and Hubei Province, are key manufacturing, transport and logistics hubs. More than 50 million people in the province are now in lockdown in the world’s largest-ever quarantine. With the virus still spreading rapidly throughout China – almost all of the 17,000-plus confirmed cases so far are within China, with only a relative handful elsewhere – its industries and consumers are going to be adversely impacted, with the major uncertainties being the related questions of severity and duration. At an economic level, the visible response of the Chinese authorities has so far been measured, with an injection of the equivalent of $US173 billion ($258 billion) of liquidity into their financial markets on Monday. That failed, however, to stop their stock market falling about 8 per cent, its steepest one-day fall since 2015.

Gov’t unveils new electronic tags for people under Wuhan coronavirus home quarantine

The Hong Kong government has announced it has 500 electronic monitoring tags ready to distribute to Hong Kong people placed under home quarantine upon returning to the SAR after having spent time in Hubei province, the epicenter of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The government’s chief information officer, Victor Lam, unveiled the e-tag at a press briefing this afternoon, saying that any Hong Kong residents who have been to Hubei in the past 14 days must undergo home quarantine of 14 days, a measure the new electronic bracelets are meant to ensure. The tag is paired to a person’s smartphone — using Bluetooth Low Energy, or BLE, technology — and is plugged into the mains at the wearer’s home. If the person wearing the tag unplugs the phone and leaves the quarantine zone with it, or if the distance between the tag and the phone exceeds 20 meters, an alert will be sent to the Department of Health and the police.

As many experts question the veracity of China’s statistics for the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Tencent over the weekend seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures. On late Saturday evening (Feb. 1), Tencent, on its webpage titled “Epidemic Situation Tracker”, showed confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019nCoV) in China as standing at 154,023, 10 times the official figure at the time. It listed the number of suspected cases as 79,808, four times the official figure. The number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300. Most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day. Moments later, Tencent updated the numbers to reflect the government’s “official” numbers that day. Netizens noticed that Tencent has on at least three occasions posted extremely high numbers, only to quickly lower them to government-approved statistics.

A Chinese baby born to a Wuhan coronavirus patient has been diagnosed with the deadly disease 30 hours after being delivered. Doctors in China are now fearing that the infection could be passed from mothers to their babies in the womb. The news came after experts claimed that the virus might also be spread by faeces. The infected child, whose gender has not been revealed, was born in Wuhan on Sunday. Its mother had been confirmed to have the coronavirus before going into labour. Medics gave the baby a test 30 hours later and the result turned out to be positive. The baby was then transferred to the Wuhan Children’s Hospital, which has been appointed by the government to treat all infected children. The three-day-old baby’s condition was stable and it was being closely monitored, the hospital announced through a post on its official social media account today. ‘This reminds us to pay attention to a potential new transmission route of the coronavirus – vertical transmission from mothers to babies,’ said Dr Zeng Lingkong, chief physician from the hospital’s Department of Neonatal Medicine.

A tropical cyclone is forecast to develop from a tropical low off the northwest Kimberley coast in Western Australia on Thursday, February 6, 2020, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). As of Wednesday, February 5, the low has sustained winds near the center of 35 km/h (22 mph) with gusts to 85 km/h (53 mph), moving west at 14 km/h (9 mph). The agency warned that a severe cyclone impact is likely on Saturday, February 8. Once formed, the system will be named Damien. While southern WA is experiencing severe heat conditions this week, residents in the north particularly the Pilbara coast were advised to prepare for a tropical cyclone impact. “We will see this tropical low move off the Kimberley coast today and it is likely to reach tropical cyclone strength during Thursday morning,” said BOM. For the past four days, this slow-moving low has dumped nearly 200 mm (8 inches) of rain to several areas in the Kimberley. A flood watch remains in place for the rivers in the region’s north and west.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Uganda will open an embassy in Jerusalem. Israel will in turn open an embassy in the Ugandan capital of Kampala. Uganda follows the U.S. and Guatemala in opening an embassy in Israel’s capital. Earlier Sunday, Netanyahu and his wife Sara were welcomed by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his wife, Education Minister Janet Museveni, at the Entebbe Presidential Residence. Prime Minister Netanyahu wrote in the guestbook, “To President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet, Many thanks for your incomparable hospitality and friendship – to us and to the State of Israel. We are deeply moved and deeply grateful.” Netanyahu met with Museveni and the the two discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in a broad range of areas: Civilian, economic, health, water, energy, communications and agriculture. The prime minister has made improving ties with African nations a priority over the last few years.

Protesters outside US Embassy in Lebanon decry Trump plan

More than 200 Lebanese and Palestinians held a protest Sunday near the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon against a White House plan for ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Protesters waving Palestinian flags gathered on a road leading to the embassy northeast of Beirut amid tight security by Lebanese troops and riot police. “Death to America! Death to Israel! We will die and Palestine survive,” some of the demonstrators chanted. Around noon, the protesters removed the barbed wire and reached a metal fence set up by security forces. Police used what appeared to be pepper spray to hold back some of the demonstrators who were on the fence, with at least three protesters being carried away.

Turkey’s defense ministry said the soldiers killed by the Syrian shellfire had been sent to Idlib to prevent clashes between opposition and Russian-backed government forces, and that local authorities were aware of their position. Four Turkish soldiers died at the scene, while the fifth soldier and a civilian employee of the military died later in hospital, the ministry added. Another seven soldiers were wounded. President Erdogan told reporters that 46 Syrian “regime targets” had been hit by the Turkish military in response to the attack.

 Thirty-Two Christians Slaughtered By Islamic Terrorists In Nigeria

There have been increased attacks in Plateau State, Nigeria over the past several weeks. There have been two large attacks that took place on January 26 and 27. These two attacks took places in Kwatas and Marish villages and left a total of at least 32 dead. The attack on Kwatas, which took place on the 26th, left at least 15 people killed according to online reports. A local source told ICC that the number is actually 21 however. The attack was also confirmed to have been committed by Fulani according to the online reports. The second attack was in Marish village on the 27th. During this attack nor only were 17 people killed, but a church was also burned down. Despite this, the media and government will continue to say that there is no religious element to the attacks that are happening. These attacks followed other recent attacks that killed at least 15 other people as well. That brings the total death count in January in Plateau State to at least 47. With the other attacks that have taken place in other areas by fulani and boko haram, 2020 has started off very bloody. Top Chinese leaders at a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politburo meeting last week expressed concern that the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak may put an end to their rule. They have decided to focus on preserving 11 major cities from being devastated by the virus. Stephen Shiu Yeuk-yuen, a senior political commentator and media professional in Hong Kong, told the Hong Kong edition of The Epoch Times on Jan. 28 that he obtained the information from an insider in the CCP’s top leadership. According to Shiu, the Politburo emergency meeting was held on Jan. 25, on the day of the Chinese New Year. The 11 cities on the CCP’s priority list of being saved are Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Shenyang, Harbin, and Urumqi. The CCP is prepared to protect these 11 cities at all cost, even if it means sacrificing other cities, Shiu said.

As if health officials in China don’t have enough on their hands with a spreading coronavirus, now officials announced an outbreak of bird flu. China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced Saturday an outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of H5N1 bird flu at a farm in the southern province of Hunan. The virus was discovered on a farm with nearly 8,000 chickens — more than half of them have already died because of the outbreak. China is not alone in trying to tamp down the spread of this virus. Earlier this week authorities in India started culling chickens and destroying eggs to contain the bird flu virus. And a different strain — the H5N8 virus — has spread throughout eastern Europe in recent weeks.

 Somalia Declares National Emergency over Locust Upsurge

The Somali government has declared a national emergency over a locust upsurge which is spreading in the East Africa region. The Somali Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Said Hussein Iid said the desert locust poses a “major threat” to the country’s already fragile food security situation. The first wave of locust swarms in Somalia last December destroyed about 100,000 hectares of farmland and pastures in Somalia, says Iid.  He warns that an upcoming second wave will be even more destructive.“ The threat is very real,” Iid told VOA Somali.  The emergency national declaration was made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation on Saturday, and says the swarms are uncommonly large and consume huge amounts of crops and forage.

 Asteroid 2020 BT14 to flyby Earth at 0.49 LD on February 3

A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 BT14 will flyby Earth at 08:19 UTC on February 3, 2020, at a distance of 0.49 LD / 0.00126 AU (188 493 km / 117 124 miles). This is the second known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance this month, making a total of 9 since the start of the year. Asteroid 2020 BT14 belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. It was first observed at Pan-STARRS 2, Haleakala, Hawaii on January 31. Its estimated diameter is between 7.9 and 18 m (25.9 – 59 feet).

The Rebuilt Jewish Temple

“And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.² But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months” (Revelation 11:1-2).

“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:  and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate” (Daniel 9:27).

“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)” (Matthew 24:15).

“Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4).

Arab League rejects Trump’s Middle East Plan

The Arab League has completely rejected US President Donald Trump‘s Middle East plan during an emergency meeting in Egypt‘s capital, saying it would not lead to a just peace deal.

In a statement on Saturday, the pan-Arab bloc said it “rejects the US-Israeli ‘deal of the century’ considering that it does not meet the minimum rights and aspirations of Palestinian people.”

Arab states also agreed “not to … cooperate with the US administration to implement this plan,” adding that Israel should not implement the initiative by force. They insisted on a two-state solution that includes a Palestinian state based on borders before the 1967 war, when Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. They also called for East Jerusalem to be the capital of the future Palestinian state.

Backing Abbas, Arab League unanimously rejects Trump’s Middle East peace plan

“The League warned that Israel must not act on the plan unilaterally — a reference to Israel’s stated intention to move on annexation as soon as possible. “Israel will be solely responsible for the consequences of such policies,” the bloc said. It said it would call on international powers to take steps to prevent any such action. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said at an emergency meeting of the bloc that he was cutting all ties with both Israel and the US, including security coordination, over the White House plan.”

IDF strikes terror targets at Gaza Strip after rockets fired at Israel
IDF forces struck terror targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday night, following at least two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip that struck southern Israel, according to the IDF Spokesperson Unit. “The IAF struck several outposts of the Hamas terror group in response to rockets fired [at Israel] from the Gaza Strip,” the report stated.

 Murray-Darling: thousands of fish have died in NSW in past two weeks
