Headline:     Ministers unanimously back Regulation Law

The coalition’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation passed on Sunday evening the Regulation Law, popularly referred to as the Amona bill or Normalization Law, which would normalize the status of Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria whose status is problematic and potentially stave off the demolition of the town of Amona. The proposed piece of legislation, sponsored by MKs Yoav Kish (Likud), Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) and Shuli Mualem (Jewish Home), was unanimously endorsed by the committee, which meets each Sunday and is charged with determining which bills the coalition will back – and which it will oppose. The committee’s support for the law is a crucial step towards its passage. Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) praised the decision, saying it would block what she decried as the anti-democratic tactics of far-left NGOs.

Headline:      Prime Minister backs bill to ban Mosque loudspeakers

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday he backed a bill limiting the volume of calls to prayer from mosques, a proposal government watchdogs have called a threat to religious
freedom. Netanyahu, who spoke as a ministerial committee was to discuss the draft bill later in the day, said he would support such a move that some have labelled unnecessarily divisive. Israeli media reported that the bill would stop the use of public address systems for calls to prayer. “I cannot count the times — they are simply too numerous — that citizens have turned to me from all parts of Israeli society, from all religions, with complaints about the noise and suffering caused them by the excessive noise coming to them from the public address systems of houses of prayer,” Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting.

Headline:     Mount of Olives security budget rises after wave of attacks

The Finance Committee approved Sunday the transfer of 2 million shekels ($500,000) to reinforce security at the Mount of Olives cemetery, in light of the rise in attacks on visitors and vandalism against Jewish graves at the site in recent years. The funds will be added to the budget of the Jerusalem Cemetery Council. Committee Chairman MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) expressed satisfaction at the budget transfer. “It falls on the state to act so that anyone who wants to come to the Mount of Olives can do so in peace and visit the graves of their relatives.” “In addition, the reinforcement of security on-site will prevent the continuing damage done to the graves and maintain the dignity of the deceased and their families.” Gafni added. As the committee was making its decision, a groom who was visiting the grave of Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kook on the Mount of Olives was attacked with a barrage of stones. No one was injured, but the groom’s car suffered damage. An Arab youth was arrested for throwing stones.

Headline:   Houthi forces capture Saudi military base in Asir

Saudi Arabia’s oil minister said it was “imperative” that OPEC nations finalize an agreement over a cut in oil production aimed at boosting crude prices, Algerian media said Sunday. Khalid al-Falih met his Algerian counterpart Noureddine Boutarfa on Saturday and called on cartel members to stick to the surprise cut deal, reached in Algiers in September. “In this period marked by unstable oil prices it is imperative to reach a consensus between OPEC nations and to agree on an effective mechanism and precise figures to activate the historic Algiers accord,” Falih was quoted as saying by Algeria’s APS news agency. The September meeting of OPEC members produced an agreement to cut the cartel’s output by 750,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to Bloomberg News. Oil rose on news of the deal, but crude prices are still more than 50 percent lower than their mid-2014 levels. Falih said he was “optimistic” that the agreement would come into effect.

Headline: Syrian Army to launch east Aleppo offensive at midnight: report

The Russian Air Force has been relentless tonight over the northern Hama countryside, launching nonstop airstrikes above the jihadist positions in several villages. According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the Russian Air Force began the night by targeting the group of villages under jihadist control located near the government-held town of Mhardeh. The field correspondent added that these airstrikes specifically targeted the large villages of Taybat Al-Imam, Helfaya, Al-Lataminah, Kafr Zita, and Morek. Meanwhile in the Idlib Governorate, the Russian Air Force launched more than 50 airstrikes over the Jaysh Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) controlled villages of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man, Binnish, Taftanaz, Saraqib, and Ma’arat Masreen. As of now, the Russian Air Force is still launching airstrikes over Idlib and Hama, targeting any site under jihadist control.

Headline:    Nimrud: Iraqi forces ‘retake ancient city from IS’

Iraqi government forces say they have captured Nimrud, the site of an ancient Assyrian city overrun by Islamic State (IS) group militants two years ago. In March 2015, officials and historians condemned IS for the destruction of the archaeological site, which dates back to the 13th Century BC. The UN’s cultural body described the act as a war crime. IS says shrines and statues are “false idols” that have to be smashed. Nimrud lies about 30km (20 miles) south-east of the major city of Mosul, which Iraqi government forces are attempting to take from IS. An Iraqi military statement said: “Troops from the Ninth Armoured Division liberated Nimrud town completely and raised  the Iraqi flag above its buildings after inflicting loss of life and equipment on the so-called Islamic State.”

Headline:         Erdogan hints at referendum on Turkey joining EU

Headline: Turkey: Don’t travel to US

Accusing Brussels of wanting Turkey to abandon its bid to join the EU, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted in an interview published Sunday he might put the question to a referendum. “The European Union is trying to compel us to withdraw from this (accession) process. If they don’t want us they should be clear about this, they should make a decision,” Erdogan told the leading daily Hurriyet. “Our patience is not endless. If need be, later, we could also consult our people,” he said, alluding to the UK’s Brexit referendum in June. Turkey’s bid to join the EU dates back to the 1960s with formal talks starting in 2005. But the process has been mired in problems, which current tensions have done nothing to help. Rocky relations between Ankara and the EU became even more strained in the wake of the failed coup in Turkey in July. Since then, some 35,000 people have been arrested and tens of thousands more have lost their jobs — including military officers, judges, teachers, civil servants and journalists — in a sweeping crackdown against alleged supporters of those behind the coup.

Iran2Iran

Headline:      Trump’s first ME military action may target Iran

Donald Trump’s ratings soar in Iranian media too
In more than one campaign speech, President elect Donald Trump declared that his number priority was “to dismantle the disastrous deal” with Iran, which he said was “the worst deal ever” He was referring to the 2015 accord negotiated with Iran by the 5P+1 (five Permanent Security Council members plus Germany), which the Obama administration presented as putting the lid on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Trump vowed to use force if necessary to prevent Tehran from acquiring the bomb. So does Tehran have more to fear from Donald Trump than from Barack Obama in the way of US military intervention? They can’t be sure that he will not set out to show the world – and especially the Iranians – that under his presidency, they can no longer “mess with America.” debkafile’s Iranian sources report that the ayatollahs are concerned enough to seriously contemplate the following scenario. The incoming president, after he takes office in the White House on Jan. 20, will act to raise America’s lame image in the Middle East by a surgical strike against an Iranian nuclear facility. One option projected is the blowing up of the Arak heavy water plant for plutonium production at the military complex city of Arak; another would be destroying an Iranian ballistic missile base. Trump and the Republican-ruled Congress would certainly not tolerate Iranian breaches after America coughed up $150 billion in eased sanctions and released frozen assets. A Trump administration would be able to marshal seven arguments to justify military action:

Headline:    Ethiopia releases list of over 11,000 state of emergency detainees

Ethiopia’s State of Emergency Inquiry Board has released the names and reasons of arrest for over 11,000 people believed to have taken part in violent anti-government protests in parts of the country. According to the state affiliated FANA Broadcasting corporate, the Inquiry board said ‘‘11, 607 people had been detained following the violence occurred in various parts of the country. About 347 of the detainees were females.’‘ Persons detained were detained at different centers across the country, amongst others; Awash, Tolay, Ziway, Dilla, Yirgalem, Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa centers. Some of the reasons given for their arrest included creating and inciting violence, spreading terror and creating instability, burning private and public service institutions and destroying investments. The country declared a six-month state of emergency to curtail the widening protests which started a year ago. The government declared the curfew following a discussion by the Council of Ministers on the loss of lives and property damages occurring in the country. The government has since promised political reforms to include a wider group of citizens. A recent cabinet reshuffle by Prime minister Hailemariam Daselegn, saw key positions handed to Oromos – who are part of the minority, their region has been the center of protests.

South Sudan faces the risk of genocide if violence in the oil-producing nation escalates, the United Nations said. Civilians in the East African nation are being targeted along ethnic lines as the media is used to polarise communities, Adama Dieng, the UN special adviser on the prevention of genocide, told reporters Friday in the capital, Juba. Dieng ended a five-day visit to the country where he met government representatives, UN mission officials, civil society groups and community members. “The signs are all there for these ethnic targeting that could evolve into genocide if action is not taken,” Dieng said. “There is a strong risk of violence escalating along ethnic lines with a strong risk of genocide.”

Headline:    In Libya, United States lays plans to hunt down escaped Islamic State fighters

The Pentagon has tracked scores of Islamic State militants escaping fierce fighting in Libya’s coastal city of Sirte and has begun laying the groundwork for expanded air attacks to follow and kill them, part of a final push by the Obama administration to blunt multiplying militant threats across the broader Middle East. Intelligence from surveillance aircraft flying over Sirte and areas south of the city allowed the U.S. military’s Africa Command to track up to several hundred militants who U.S. officials now fear could be preparing to mount a counterattack on allied Libyan forces. The president’s counterterrorism advisers are eager for Africa Command to pursue militants who have fled the coastal city but say military planners have more “homework” to do collecting and analyzing U.S. intelligence on their new encampments to ensure that U.S. strikes won’t inadvertently kill civilians. “These guys are fleeing the fighting. There aren’t too many of them,” said one U.S. senior official who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss operations. “Why wouldn’t you want to pick them off?”

Headline:      US to take Australia asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island

Australia and the US have reached a resettlement deal for asylum seekers held in offshore detention centres in Papua New Guinea and Nauru. Under the agreement, the migrants there will be assessed and the most vulnerable will be resettled in the US. About 1,200 people are being held in the asylum centres on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea and on Nauru island. Australia’s policy of sending migrants who arrive by boat to offshore facilities has been criticised. Announcing the deal with the US on Sunday, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the resettlement process would be gradual. “US authorities will conduct their own assessment of refugees and decide which people are resettled in the US,” he said. He did not say how many refugees would be relocated, but said that women, children and families would be prioritised.

note

From the Last Chronicles of Planet Earth page 339

“Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? Hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? To carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?” (Ezekiel 38:13) As the attack begins, we see specific nations that are mentioned which only give their formal protest against the invading armies. The nations which give their formal protest are not engaged in the battle. Sheba and Dedan in verse 13 are modern day Saudi Arabia. Great Britain is what is referred to in the Old Testament as Tarshish. The nations which broke away from Great Britain are the United States, Canada, and Australia; these nations are considered the young lions of Tarshish or Great Britain in modern day terms.

Headline:  ISIS flourishes and recruits in Pakistan

The death toll from a bomb blast at a Sufi shrine in southwest Pakistan has risen to 50 people with more than 100 wounded, officials said. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the suicide attack Saturday at the shrine of Sufi saint Shah Bilal Noorani in the southwestern province of Baluchistan. Abdur Rasool, an official at the province’s Home Ministry, said rescuers were transporting the wounded to hospitals and the dead to local morgues, but were struggling in the difficult mountainous terrain, some 350 kilometers (217 miles) south of the provincial capital, Quetta. The blast targeted worshippers as they were in the throes of their devotional “dhamal” dance, and the courtyard at the time was packed with families, women and children. The Islamic State group’s statement on the IS-affiliated Aamaq news agency said the suicide attack had targeted “Shiites.” The shrine is frequented by both Pakistan’s Sunni Muslim majority and Shiite minority. IS considers all Shiite Muslims heretics.

Headline:    Eight dead in clashes between Myanmar army and militants in Rakhin

Eight people died and 36 were arrested in clashes between the Myanmar army and what the government believes are Rohingya Muslim militants in northern Rakhine State, state media said on Sunday, in the largest escalation of the month-old conflict yet. Skirmishes took place throughout Saturday in villages in the north of Rakhine, leaving one officer and one soldier dead. Six bodies of attackers were recovered in the aftermath, while 36 other people believed to be involved were arrested. About 60 attackers armed with guns, knives and spears ambushed government troops on Saturday morning, the state-owned Global New Light of Myanmar said. The army returned fire, but at one point asked for army choppers to reinforce because its troops were outnumbered, the paper said. Soldiers have poured into northern Rakhine, close to the border with Bangladesh, since Oct. 9, after an insurgent group of Rohingyas that the government believes has links to Islamists overseas launched coordinated attacks on several border posts.

Zika is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which are not common in Israel.
