They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

Headline: IDF concerned of possible Hezbollah invasion of northern Israel

Northern Command says Shiite terror group threatening to send forces across the border in first few days of a third Lebanon war. Hezbollah may implement its plan to invade northern Israel if a third Lebanon war breaks out, according to an estimate by the IDF Northern Command. Sources in Israel have identified a change in the Shiite terror group’s policies, which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has defined as “breaking the silence.” There was no concrete warning of an immediate threat by Hezbollah to launch a war against Israel or a surprise ground invasion, but the concern that a single event – with casualties – may flare up and lead, in quick succession, to the outbreak of war on the northern front. According to the IDF estimates, Hezbollah has gathered the confidence necessary to attempt an invasion operation – as it managed with force on the border towns between Syrian and Lebanon, in al-Qusayr, Arsal, and the Qalamoun Mountains. As opposed to its previous modus operandi, in which pointed attacks were carried out by small cells numbering less than a dozen people, the new estimates fear that operations would be wide-ranging and include a blitz by at least 100 fighters in order to hold an Israeli position for three to four hours. The possibilities include the seizure of part of a town, a mountain ridge, or an IDF outpost – all in order to achieve an unprecedented symbolic victory for Hezbollah.

Headline: Likud Decides Without PM to Topple Hamas in Next Operation

Hundreds of Likud members took part in a meeting of the party’s Central Committee in Ashkelon on Monday, where they passed a party proposal obligating the toppling the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza in the next counter-terror operation. “We must rehabilitate our deterrence, and in the next round destroy Hamas – there must be a clear decisive (blow),” said Likud Central Committee Chairman MK Danny Danon at the event. The statement refers to the perceived lack of decisive military action in Operation Protective Edge, the third such operation in Gaza, which ended with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sealing a ceasefire with Hamas that coincided with a nose-dive in his approval ratings. Netanyahu himself was absent at the meeting Monday, instead taking part in a meeting of Likud activists in Petah Tikva that he arranged to conflict with the Central Committee meeting so as not to be present.

Headline: Report: Abbas Will Ask France to Recognize ‘Palestine’

Headline: PA fears Islamic State threat taking world’s attention away from Palestinian issue

According to Bethlehem-based news agency Ma’an, Palestinian Authority (PA) chief Mahmoud Abbas will ask French president Francois Hollande to recognize the “state of Palestine” when Abbas meets Hollande in France Friday. According to the report, Abbas will then ask additional European countries to recognize “Palestine” even before he heads for the annual United Nations General Assembly. PA foreign minister Riad Al Maliki told Ma’an that “the international situation now is much better than in the past, and there is a better chance that the Palestinian people’s demands will be met.” Maliki added that “the world is now conviced, more than in the past, that Israel undermines international efforts for peace by constructing settlements.” “Because of the diplomatic stalemate, we will say at the Security Council that this is the time to take a clear stand that will lead to the end of the occupation,” he explained. According to Maliki, European countries are gradually becoming convinced that Abbas is following the right path. Meanwhile, without a DROP of concern for their Muslim brethren, The Palestinian Authority has expressed concern that the international coalition against Islamic State would divert attention from the Palestinian issue. PA President Mahmoud Abbas chaired a meeting of the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah over the weekend to discuss the US efforts to form a coalition to fight Islamic State terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Following the meeting, the Palestinian leaders said the “international campaign against terrorism was currently lacking a political dimension that would address the issues of the region.” They also warned that the campaign did not deal with the “core and central issue, which is the Palestinian cause, so that it would be able to dry up the sources that feed terrorism and extremism.” The Palestinian leaders called on Arab, regional and international parties to insist on linking their anti-terrorism campaign to a political dimension and not to focus solely on military and security aspects. Nabil Abu Rudaineh, spokesman for the PA presidency, said that without solving the Palestinian issue “there would be no solutions for the problems of the region.” Abu Rudaineh added that any regional alliances should lead to “ending the occupation and preserving the national rights of the Palestinians.

Headline: Israelis Warned of Heightened Terror Threat Abroad

Headline: ISIS may target Israelis, Jews abroad, Counter-Terrorism Bureau warns

The Israeli National Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau has warned of the increased likelihood of terror attacks targeting Israeli and Jewish targets in the run up to the High Holy Days, highlighting western Europe as an area of particular concern. In a report issued Monday assessing global terror threats, the Bureau noted the significant danger of western nationals currently fighting abroad for global jihadi groups, including Al Qaeda and the “Islamic State” (ISIS), returning to their home countries to commit terrorist attacks. It cited the example of Mehdi Nemmouche, the French-Algerian former ISIS fighter and torturer, who returned to Europe and is believed to have carried out a deadly shooting at the Brussels Jewish Museum, which killed four people including two Israelis. Nemmouche is said to have planned a much larger terror attack to take place in Paris, but was apprehended before he could carry it out. Some 2,000 of ISIS’s fighters are thought to hail from western states, and many have indeed returned home already. According to British authorities for example, of the 500 or so UK nationals who traveled to fight for the Islamic State, roughly half have already returned home – 40 of whom have been arrested.

Headline: Al Qaeda Flags Continue to Fly Near Temple Mount

Flags of the Al Qaeda terror group are flying atop the Kotel Hakatan (“Small Kotel”), a remnant of the retaining wall of the Temple Mount that is a continuation of the Western Wall, located in the Muslim Quarter. The Kotel Hakatan is adjacent to one of the entrances to the Temple Mount. Meanwhile, said Avichail Weizmann, a resident of the Old City and a student at Hakotel Yeshiva in the Jewish Quarter, municipal signs and other symbols of Israeli sovereignty are torn down or destroyed on a regular basis, and that includes signs in the area of the Kotel Hakatan, which he visits frequently. Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Weizmann said that he had contacted city officials numerous times about the issue, but so far to no avail. Two weeks ago, Weizmann said that he noticed several flags with Arabic writing flying over the Kotel Hakatan – a flag which turned out to be the symbol of Al Qaeda. He filed a complaint with police, which sent out an investigator – who concluded that the flags were actually signs of a “religious nature” and as such none of the police department’s business. According to Weizmann, the flags are stil there.

Headline: Exclusive: Feds Find Anti-Israel and Pro-Palestine 9/11 Message to America on Border Fence

On September 11, 2014, individuals or a group in Mexico hung a message to America over the U.S.-Mexico border wall condemning American support for Israel and declaring support for Palestine. U.S. federal agents discovered the banner draped over the primary border fence in Arizona’s Yuma Sector in a restricted area that could only have been reached from Mexico. The message also contained an image described by authorities as an anarchist symbol. The incident was kept secret from the American public by federal authorities. Breitbart Texas exclusively obtained the leaked incident report from federal agents on the condition their identities remain private. The leaked incident report reveals that U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered the banner in the early hours of September 12, 2014, indicating that the banner had been draped over the border wall late in the night on September 11th.

Headline: Islamic State secretly near Israel border, Syrian rebel group says

***This is not news to us as we know that Al-Nusra has pledged allegiance to ISIS

The Islamic State terror group is operating sleeper cells in southern Syria near the border with Israel, a spokesman for the opposition’s Free Syrian Army charged Sunday. The spokesman, speaking to The Times of Israel on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorized to communicate with Israeli media, said that some of the 6,000 Islamist fighters who fled southward toward the borders with Israel and Jordan in July actually belong to the Islamic State, not to the less extreme Nusra Front as previously believed. “There are sleeper cells in the south, which are hidden. They don’t do anything [military] at all,” the spokesman said of IS. “Many people [in the moderate Syrian opposition] are following them and will strike at them before they organize.”

According to the intelligence agency of the Free Syrian Army, Islamic State activists would approach individuals in the area, offering them basic food staples or financial aid. “They say: ‘Stay at home, no one will know about you. The moment we need you, we’ll call.’” The spokesman said that many locals refused the IS overtures, but that could change given the region’s grave poverty. Prices have skyrocketed recently, he added, with a liter of diesel fuel costing $15, for example. Two villages where IS representatives made such proposals are Hayt and Sahem Al-Jawlan, near the Syrian-Jordanian border, the spokesman said.  “They were sent by the Islamic State to control the largest portion of land possible,” he said. “We are against them wholeheartedly. They have nothing to do with Islam, which they merely use as a cover.”

The police force’s elite counterterrorism unit, Yamam, will be expanded and authorized to operate outside of Israel’s borders. The unit’s mandate will be changed by law to authorize it to operate anywhere “the government of Israel sees fit,” whether within Israel’s borders or beyond them, and it will be beefed up by an extra company — about 100 people — in light of the threat of terrorist infiltrations along both the southern and the northern borders. “For 40 years, Yamam fighters have protected Israel’s citizens,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a recent ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the unit’s establishment. “It’s an elite unit, one of the best in the world, which is one of the pillars of Israel’s security. Yamam’s fighters operate in the shadows, but they bring a great deal of light to Israel’s citizens.”

Headline:  Jordan BDS Statement on Gas Deal with Israel

Headline: Israeli Minister confirms Israel would aid Jordan against IS

Jordan BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel) expresses deep concern and opposition to the finalization of a recent gas deal between Jordan and Israel. The proposed deal comes in the aftermath of Israeli’s morally reprehensible attack on Gaza, which left over 2,100 Palestinians killed, and 11,000 injured, the vast majority of them civilians. This opposition is joined by the vast majority of the Jordanian public who share Jordan BDS principled objection to working with Israel. Most importantly, the gas-purchase agreement is not in Jordan’s long-term strategic interest. We question the wisdom of tying our energy future with a supplier who has failed consistently to adhere to international morality. Our opposition comes primarily out of fear for Jordan’s long-term strategic interests. Despite the economic necessity argument being used, the fact remains that there are major geopolitical implications for this deal that easily overshadow all potential economic benefits. If the agreement is finalized, it would make Jordan dependent on Israel for its energy needs, and would grant immeasurable political and economic leverage to Israel over our country, depriving us much of our independence.

Headline:   Hezbollah slams Lebanon FM for siding with Arab states in fighting ISIS

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has expressed strong reservations about Beirut’s signing of the Jeddah Communique pledging regional military cooperation against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), with sources close to the group warning that the agreement both goes too far and does not do enough to confront the Islamist terrorist group. Lebanon’s Hezbollah-led March 8 Alliance called on Beirut to provide “clarification” regarding the future Lebanese role in the international coalition being assembled to confront ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity, a source close to Hezbollah said: “Lebanon’s official position in terms of its commitment to the fight against terror has been clear since 2000.” The source said that any additional responsibilities must be taken “within the framework of a clear plan that determines Lebanon’s role,” criticizing the Jeddah Communique’s vague language. He added that Hezbollah considers Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil’s signing of the communique as non-binding until an official clarification is issued by the Beirut government. By merely attending the Jeddah meeting Bassil had “buried” Lebanon’s “unrealistic” policy of self-distancing, the Hezbollah source maintained.

Headline: Intel: Hezbollah built arsenal of 5,000 long-range rockets from Iran

Israel’s intelligence community has determined that the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah built a huge long-range rocket arsenal. The intelligence community has assessed that Hizbullah was focusing on the procurement of rockets with a range of more than 100 kilometers. In a recent assessment to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, intelligence agencies concluded that Hizbullah amassed an Iranian-origin long-range arsenal of at least 5,000 rockets. “This arsenal could strike deep inside Israel and is larger than most countries in the Middle East,” an Israeli source said. The source said the intelligence community has traced the long-range rocket arsenal to underground facilities in Beirut as well as the Bekaa Valley. The assessment asserted that much of the arsenal consisted of the Fatah-110, with a range of more than 200 kilometers. “These are precision-guided rockets with a warhead of at least one ton,” the source said. “They could strike virtually any target in Israel.”

Headline: Egypt Kills 7 Jihadists in Sinai

Seven jihadists were killed in a shootout in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula during a joint operation by police and the army, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said Sunday, according to AFP. The seven men were among “the most dangerous elements of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis” and had taken part in a July attack on a border post with Libya that killed 22 soldiers, he was quoted as having told a news conference. The minister did not give a date for the operation. Based in the northern Sinai, the Al-Qaeda-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has spearheaded attacks that have killed scores of policemen and soldiers since the army overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013. It says the attacks are to avenge the killing of pro-Morsi protesters by the army and police, a crackdown which has left at least 1,400 dead.  The group has also claimed responsibility for several rocket attacks that targeted the Israeli resort city of Eilat.

Syria Headline:   Obama: Assad Shooting At American Planes Would Lead To His Overthrow

Syria Headline:    US covertly giving Assad intel on Islamic State, regime daily claims

President Barack Obama would seek to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad if American planes were attacked upon entering Syrian air space, Peter Baker of The New York Times reports. If Assad’s troops fired at American planes entering Syrian airspace, “Obama said he would order American forces to wipe out Syria’s air defense system,” Baker reports. “He went on to say that such an action by Mr. Assad would lead to his overthrow, according to one account.” Meanwhile, Al-Watan reports that accurate American information conveyed via third countries has allowed Syria to target senior jihadists. The United States is providing the Assad regime with accurate intelligence on Islamic State targets in Syria through a third country, a Syrian regime daily reported on Monday, contradicting American claims that no such cooperation existed. Quoting unnamed diplomatic sources in Paris, Al-Watan reported that Syria has received “very accurate information” from a foreign intelligence agency over the past weeks regarding movements and meetings of Islamic State leaders in Syria. Based on that intelligence, the daily reported, Syrian aircraft attacked the location of the leaders and “hit the targets with precision.” Al-Watan claimed the information originated in the US, and may have been conveyed via “Baghdad, Moscow, Berlin, or even the military command center located in Irbil (in northern Iraq).” No comment was available from the US State Department at time of publication.

Syria Headline:    Republican Syria-Rebel Aid Plan Said to Include Controls

U.S. House Republican leaders are drafting legislation to grant President Barack Obama’s request to arm and equip Syrian rebels while also requiring controls including progress reports to Congress, a House aide said. The provision probably will be offered as an amendment to a must-pass bill to fund the government through Dec. 11, said two House Republican aides who sought anonymity to discuss the plans. The approach is intended to win the support of lawmakers who want a separate vote on the Syria aid. Obama, in a Sept. 10 televised address, asked Congress to authorize help for Syrian rebels combating the Sunni extremist group Islamic State, which has swept from Syria deep into Iraq with a campaign of terror that included the beheading of two U.S. journalists and a British aid worker. No U.S. ground troops will be needed, the president said. Under the plan, the Defense Department would be required to report to Congress 15 days before putting its proposal into effect and demonstrate how it would work, the first House aide said. Every 90 days afterward, the Defense Department would have to provide information on vetting of Syrian rebels who receive help, in an effort to ensure that U.S. equipment doesn’t fall into terrorists’ hands, the House aide said.

Syria Headline:    Syrian FM: Qatar directly supports Nusra kidnappings

Qatar is responsible for kidnappings by the Nusra Front, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said Sunday, as an official Lebanese delegation held talks in Doha over negotiations to secure the release of 22 policemen and soldiers held by militants. “Terrorists from the Nusra Front would not have committed the crime of kidnapping had it not been for direct support from Qatari forces,” the ministry said in a statement. Qatar is helping negotiate the release of Lebanese security personnel and soldiers captured by Nusra militants in Arsal and later handed over to Islamic State radicals who have since beheaded two of the soldiers. The Syrian statement argued that by paying large sums to militants to secure the released of abducted security and military personnel, the Gulf state was supporting terrorism.

Iraq Headline:ISIS executes eight Sunnis in northern Iraq

ISIS militants publicly executed eight Sunni men in a small northern Iraqi village at the weekend for allegedly plotting against the group, an eyewitness from the village told Reuters Sunday. The killing began on Friday night when a pair of masked ISIS gunmen openly murdered a police officer in Al-Jumasah village after the militant group accused him of spying for the Kurdish and Iraqi military forces, the witness said. The ISIS fighters gathered local residents to watch the execution in the village, about 120 km north of Tikrit. “Islamic State members said that this is the fate of anyone who opposes them,” the witness said. “They presented as evidence CDs and copies of the man’s correspondences with the security forces.” After the police officer was executed, a small armed group opened fire in revenge on the house of an ISIS officer.

Kurdish Headline:    Kurdish Government Condemns the Killing of British Aid Worker by IS Militants

The official spokesperson of the Kurdistan Regional Presidency (KRP) has condemned the execution of the British humanitarian activist, David Haines by the Jihadi group. The KRP labeled the execution of the British worker as unethical and brutal. “The Islamic State published the execution of a British humanitarian activist, David Haines. Taking the British activist as a hostage for a year and then executing him is extremely unethical and immoral. We condemn this immoral act of IS militants in the strongest possible terms,” read the statement. The statement also states that this act shows that the group will continue to ignore all humanitarian and religious values. “Therefore, annihilating this treacherous terrorist group at its roots is an urgent obligation that the International Community should carry out,” concluded the statement.

Kurdish Headline:   Deputy asks Barzani to remove Turkey military bases in Kurdistan Region

A member of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Kurdistan Region’s local parliament asked President Massoud Barzani to remove Turkey military bases in the region in the north of Iraq. Salar Mahmoud said Turkey is in negotiation with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in line with peace talks with the party and Ankara should remove its bases in Kurdistan Region. In an agreement with toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 1996, Turkey made bases in Kurdistan Region, something Mahmoud called illegal and a violation of the region’s rights and laws. Turkey has repeatedly violated the region’s airspace on diverse excuses but as talks with the PKK is getting to end in a good result; Ankara should withdraw its forces form Kurdistan Region. That’s the duty of the executive power to put into action decision number 37 that was ratified in 2005, something that makes the region’s president to make Turkey to take its forces out of the region.

Headline: Is ISIS able to bring down American planes?- CNN VIDEO

Islamic State of Iraq and Levant has been operating anti-aircraft batteries stolen from the Iraqi military. Officials said the U.S. military has determined that ISIL deployed an unspecified number of anti-aircraft artillery to counter Western air strikes in northern Iraq. Western diplomatic sources said ISIL struck at least one U.S. aircraft. They said an F-15 fighter-jet was hit by ISIL fire in late August that damaged the hydraulic system and forced the aircraft to land in neighboring Turkey. Officials did not identify the anti-aircraft batteries employed by ISIL, according to a report by Middle East Newsline. But they acknowledged that most of the stolen Iraqi military equipment used by ISIL was of U.S. origin, including artillery, armored personnel carriers and combat vehicles. The officials said ISIL was operating the artillery, captured from northern Iraqi military bases in June 2014. “They have used these batteries to protect their positions against air strikes,” an official said.

Russia Monday offered its help in the international fight against ISIS as global powers step up efforts to help Iraq battle jihadists. “We have got a contribution to make to the joint efforts in the specific area of ensuring security in Iraq through consolidating society and mobilizing it in a fight with terrorism and extremism,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Paris. “We are also providing military and other assistance to Syria and other countries in the region which face -maybe to a lesser extent – a serious terrorist threat,” Lavrov added. “These are our partners in Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen and Jordan.” In July, Moscow announced it was delivering combat helicopters and fighter jets to Iraq. Russia, which is locked in a showdown with the West over Ukraine, said last week that unilateral U.S. airstrikes in Syria would be a crude violation of international law.

Headline: Nato states begin exercise in west Ukraine, weapons deliveries

Nato countries have started an annual military exercise in west Ukraine, with Kiev saying some of them have also begun delivering weapons. The US-led exercise – “Rapid Trident” – began on Monday (15 September) in Yavoriv, near the Polish-Ukrainian border. According to a US statement, the 11-day drill will practice “peacekeeping and stability operations”, including “countering improvised explosive devices, convoy operations, and patrolling”. It includes 200 US soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Italy. It also includes 1,100 troops from Nato states Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the UK and from former Soviet republics Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. Rapid Trident is taking place at the same time as “Maple Arch” – a Canadian-Polish drill involving Canandian, Lithuanian, and Polish soldiers in Poland. Ukraine has taken part in similar events since 2006. But this year’s arrival of US soldiers comes as Ukrainian forces wage war against Russian troops and pro-Russia rebels in east Ukraine. US military spokesman Gregory Hicks said Rapid Trident is “proof of Nato countries’ support for states who are not alliance members”. Canada’s defence minister Rob Nicholson said Maple Arch is designed to “further regional security … in the wake of the Putin regime’s [Russia’s] aggressive military actions”. For his part, Ukrainian defence minister Valery Heletey told press in Kiev on Sunday that some Nato countries have also started delivering arms to Ukraine in line with a deal at the recent Nato summit.

Headline: Fresh shelling leaves 6 people dead in east Ukraine

Fresh shelling in Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk has left six people dead and fifteen others injured, the city council says. “As a result of the shelling, six civilians were killed and 15 people were wounded by shrapnel to varying degrees,” the council said on Monday. Donetsk’s two northern districts were shelled on Sunday, damaging residential and administrative buildings, the council added. According to reports, the shelling marked the bloodiest day since a ceasefire was signed 10 days ago between the Ukrainian government and pro-Moscow activists. The pro-Moscow forces, based in Donetsk, have put the casualties at 20, with Alexander Zakharchenko, a leader of the pro-Russians, accusing Ukrainian troops of violating the ceasefire. Elsewhere in the nearby Lugansk area, officials say the Ukrainian forces tried to break through a city held by the pro-Russians but they repelled the attack.

Headline:    Iran’s Khamenei takes to Twitter to reject US offer to help stop ISIS

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, made clear Monday in a Twitter rant that his country will not be part of President Obama’s effort to build broad-based support to destroy the militant group Islamic State. “I reject US offer to #Iran abt #ISIS because US has corruption on its hands in this issue,” the supreme leader wrote in one of several tweets. The State Department responded within hours, saying the United States has indeed talked to Iran about Islamic State’s deadly foray into Iraq, but never discussed a coordinated military effort to stop the terror group. In a series of tweets, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the discussions occurred on the sidelines of a recent United Nations meeting about Iran dismantling its nuclear-enrichment program. “It is no secret that we have had discussions w Iran about counter-ISIL efforts in Iraq,” Psaki tweeted. The tweet was followed by another, within seconds, that said: “We are not and will not coordinate militarily with Iran.” Psaki, however, in a follow-up tweet, appeared to leave open the possibility of further discussion at an upcoming UN meeting. “There may be another opportunity on the margins in the future to discuss #Iraq w Iran.”

Headline: S. Sudan President Seeks Meeting with Sudan’s Leader

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has officially written to Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir proposing talks to deepen bilateral relations and security cooperation, according to Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan presidential spokesperson. Ateny also said the negotiations would include ways to resolve the dispute over the oil-rich Abyei region. Its status has yet to be determined in spite of an agreement signed between Juba and Khartoum in September 27, 2012. “One of the issues is the cooperation agreements that were signed between the Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. The other issue is the outstanding issue about Abyei [whose case] remains unresolved, and the matter has been referred to the two heads of state. So it is incumbent on the two presidents to seek to meet at any convenient time so that they discuss the outstanding issues,” said Ateny. He said the meeting between the two neighboring heads of state is likely to be scheduled at the end of the month, since he said President Kiir will be attending the United Nation’s General Assembly in New York. “If this meeting were to be scheduled by the Sudan government next week then [President Kiir] will not be available…If President Al-Bashir is traveling to New York then they can meet on the sidelines,” said Ateny. “If President Bashir doesn’t want to go to the U.N. General Assembly, then the meeting should take place any other time after the return of President Salva Kiir from America some time at the end of this month.” Sudan and South Sudan often trade accusations of supporting rebel groups fighting each other’s government.

An unidentified military jet launched an air strike on Monday against a military base in western Libya held by anti-government militias, Libyan media reported. The raid hit a munitions depot held by a militia in the town of Gharyan, southwest of the capital, state news agency LANA reported. Last month Forces belonging to the mostly Islamist Fajr Libya (Libya Dawn) alliance were targeted by warplanes near Tripoli airport before they defeated nationalist militia rivals at the site, with Washington saying the UAE and Egypt were behind the night raids. Monday’s strike left “a number of casualties” LANA said without elaborating, while private television station Al-Nabaa said 11 people were wounded. Militias in Gharyan are members of the Fajr Libya alliance which rejects the legitimacy of the elected parliament because it allegedly supported the air raids against its fighters at the airport. The government, in turn, has accused Sudan and Qatar of supplying weapons to its Islamist opponents.

A new armed group calling itself the “Soldiers of the Caliphate in Algeria” has split from al-Qaeda’s North African branch and sworn loyalty to the group calling itself the Islamic State (IS), fighting in Syria and Iraq. In a communique released on Sunday, a regional commander of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) said he broke away from the group, accusing it of “deviating from the true path”. Gouri Abdelmalek, nom de guerre Khaled Abu Suleimane, claimed leadership of the splinter group, and was joined by a AQIM commander of an eastern region in Algeria. “You have in the Islamic Maghreb men if you order them they will obey you,” Suleimane said in reference to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-professed “caliph” of the IS group. Algerian officials did not immediately comment on the statement. The “Soldiers of the Caliphate in Algeria” is the latest group to break with AQIM and side with Baghdadi, after veteran Algerian jihadist, Mokhtar Belmokhtar’s group, “Those who sign in Blood” pledged allegiance to the IS group.

Headline:  Turkey mulls ‘buffer zone’ on southern border

The Turkish military is looking into the possibility of establishing a “buffer zone” on its southern border, where it faces a threat from militants belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, Turkish media cited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying, Reuters reported on Monday. Ankara would weigh up the plans and decide whether such a move was necessary, Turkish television stations quoted Erdogan as telling reporters on his plane as he returned from an official visit to Qatar. A presidency official confirmed he had made such remarks but did not specify where along the border the zone might be established and gave no further details, Reuters said. Turkey has come under fire by some critics for indirectly encouraging the formation of ISIS because of its support of Islamist opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and its loose control of its borders. However, a Turkish government official told AFP on Thursday Ankara would refuse to allow a U.S.-led coalition to attack militants in neighboring Iraq and Syria from its air bases, nor would it take part in combat operations against militants.

Headline: Texas Sheriff: Reports Warn Of ISIS Terrorist Cells Coming Across The Border

Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter said that law enforcement agencies along the “wide open” border have received alerts to be on the lookout for terrorists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria crossing into the United States. Painter, who said he has worked along the border for “about eight years,” stated that alerts have been issued to border law enforcement to be on the lookout for suspicious terrorist activity, specifically involving ISIS cells being smuggled into the United States. “I received an intelligence report that said that there was ISIS cells that were active in the Juarez area, which is the northern part of the Chihuahua state, and that they were moving around over there, that there was some activity…” Painter told Fox News. The report asked “for the sheriffs along the border to be on the alert, for all law enforcement to be on the alert, and to be on the lookout for these people maybe trying to come across.” Painter sidestepped any direct knowledge that ISIS, specifically, is along the border, but he reiterated that the border “is wide open.” “Well I’m saying the border is wide open, there is no control on the border, it’s not shut off,” said Painter. “There’s places along the Rio Grande you can walk across, there’s no water in it. I worked the border for eight years I walked back and forth across the Rio Grande; I was in Mexico, I was on this side. I never got challenged. “There’s always a way to get across, there’s coyotes that bring those people across for thousands of dollars.” Painter noted that “Muslim” items have been strewn along the border and estimated that 10 to 15 million “undocumented aliens” have crossed the border.

The United Nations took over a regional African peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic on Monday, nine months after sectarian violence erupted that has left at least 5,000 people dead and has forced tens of thousands of Muslims to flee into exile in neighboring countries. About 1,800 additional peacekeepers and police are joining the mission as the United Nations takes over, though that force when combined with the existing African troops is still only about 65 percent of what was authorized by the U.N. Security Council in April. Human rights groups and others called for the full deployment of a nearly 12,000-strong force, which diplomats have said won’t take place until early 2015. “The switch from AU to U.N. peacekeepers must be more than a cosmetic change: the swapping green berets for blue helmets. Instead it must serve as a fresh start for the peacekeeping operation in CAR,” said Steve Cockburn, Amnesty International’s campaigns deputy regional director for West and Central Africa. The peacekeepers face an enormous task: bringing peace to a country the size of Texas with some 4.6 million people that is one of the least developed on the African continent. Some roads have not been repaired since independence from France in 1960 and others are near-inaccessible during the rainy season. The country’s vast north was largely anarchic even before the violence erupted and is home to a plethora of rebel groups and armed movements.

Headline: Pakistan’s Khan vows to protest until PM resigns

Pakistani opposition leader Imran Khan has promised to continue his anti-government protests until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigns over alleged vote fraud in last year’s elections. On Sunday, Khan told his supporters in central Islamabad that he would not back down from his demand for Sharif to step down and urged more protesters to join him. The cricketer-turned-politician urged the protesters to stand against the politicians in power in the country, warning that if they don’t, they will be “enslaved.” “I assure you [that] Nawaz Sharif, who is like an emperor, a king… until he steps down, I will not move from here,” he added. Khan, who heads the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, and cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri, the head of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), have been leading daily protest rallies in Islamabad since August 14.

Headline: 25 killed in clashes in northern Yemen

Yemeni security and tribal officials say at least 25 people were killed in clashes between Sunni tribesmen affiliated to the country’s Muslim Brotherhood group and Shiite rebels in a northern city. The officials said Monday that the killings took place over the past 24 hours in fighting between the Shiite rebels, known as Hawthis, and their rivals in the city of Jawf. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. The Hawthis, already in control of the northern city of Saada, have been staging demonstrations in the capital Sanaa demanding a new government.

The U.S. State Department has just put out a bid for 160,000 Ebola hazmat suits, announced a U.S. manufacturer called “Lakeland Industries.” The company’s press release, published at Yahoo Finance, reads: With the U.S. State Department alone putting out a bid for 160,000 suits, we encourage all protective apparel companies to increase their manufacturing capacity for sealed seam garments so that our industry can do its part in addressing this threat to global health. This is just the latest sign that the U.S. government is now preparing for a full-blown global outbreak of Ebola which would reach U.S. cities.

Headline: CDC issues Ebola checklist: ‘Now is the time to prepare’

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warning hospitals and doctors that “now is the time to prepare,” has issued a six-page Ebola “checklist” to help healthcare workers quickly determine if patients are infected. While the CDC does not believe that there are new cases of Ebola in the United States, the assumption in the checklist is that it is only a matter of time before the virus hits home. For example, one part reads: “Encourage healthcare personnel to use a ‘buddy system’ when caring for patients.” Another recommends a process to report cases to top officials: Plan for regular situational briefs for decision-makers, including:

— Suspected and confirmed EVD patients who have been identified and reported to public health authorities.

— Isolation, quarantine and exposure reports.

— Supplies and logistical challenges.

— Personnel status, and policy decisions on contingency plans and staffing.

The checklist has been distributed to major hospitals and even little ones, including an urgent center in Leesburg, Va. “Every hospital should ensure that it can detect a patient with Ebola, protect healthcare workers so they can safely care for the patient, and respond in a coordinated fashion,” warns the CDC. “While we are not aware of any domestic Ebola Virus Disease cases (other than two American citizens who were medically evacuated to the United States), now is the time to prepare, as it is possible that individuals with EVD in West Africa may travel to the United States, exhibit signs and symptoms of EVD, and present to facilities,” it adds.

Headline: Enterovirus D68: Alberta Canada testing for strain after spike in child hospital admissions

Headline: Madison County NY reports its first enterovirus case

An Alberta children’s hospital says it has seen a spike in the number of children admitted for respiratory problems in the past several weeks and is adding new beds to the pediatric unit to keep up with demand. Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it has seen a spike in “respiratory-related admissions” at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary since the end of August. While that isn’t unusual in and of itself — the “September spike” is well-documented — it comes as doctors in the U.S. grapple with the spread of enterovirus D-68, which has been sending more children to intensive care wards in that country than the typical common cold.

Headline:  Dozens of Christians ‘including women and children’ are arrested in Saudi Arabia after tip-off to state’s Islamist police force

Islamist police in Saudi Arabia have stormed a Christian prayer meeting and arrested its entire congregation, including women and children, and confiscated their bibles, it has been reported. The raid was the latest incident of a swingeing crackdown on religious minorities in Saudi Arabia by the country’s hard-line Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The 28 Christians were said to be worshipping at the home of an Indian national in the eastern city of Khafji, when the police entered the building and took them into custody. They have not been seen or heard from since, raising concerns among human rights groups as to their whereabouts. Nina Shea, director of the Washington-based Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom, told FoxNews.com: ‘Saudi Arabia is continuing the religious cleansing that has always been its official policy. ‘It is the only nation state in the world with the official policy of banning all churches. ‘This is enforced even though there are over two million Christian foreign workers in that country. Those victimized are typically poor, from Asian and African countries with weak governments.’ Activists are now calling on the U.S. to use its considerable influence in the region to help secure the release of the incarcerated Christians.

Government mobilizes army and navy to cope with refugees. Two states in north-western Mexico have been hit by a hurricane and an earthquake, prompting local authorities to mobilize the army and set up hundreds of medical units. The Mexican government has confirmed that Hurricane Odile made landfall near Los Cabos in the state of Southern Baja California on Sunday at 23:45 CDT. The country’s National Weather Service had been tracking the storm for the last five days. Odile has been rated as a major Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with expected wind speeds of between 178-208 kilometers per hour. Airports in Southern Baja California state were closed, as were many highways because of Odile, the fifteenth meteorological phenomenon in the 2014 hurricane season according to Mexico’s National Civil Protection body. Electricity infrastructure has been also damaged by the hurricane. Over 2,000 navy personnel and 1,100 soldiers are on alert said Luis Puente, National Coordinator of Civil Protection.

Headline: Typhoon Kalmaegi Makes Landfall in Philippines

A strong typhoon slammed into the rice-producing Philippine northern region on Sunday, sparking warnings of possible landslides, flash floods and storm surges, national disaster agency officials said. Typhoon Kalmaegi, with central winds of 130 kph (81 mph) and gusts of up to 160 kph, made landfall early evening Sunday in Isabela province, dumping heavy rains that soaked farms, said Alexander Pama, executive director of the national disaster risk reduction and management council. “I am calling on our countrymen … take proper precautions for your situation and listen to the warnings of your village leaders. Do not wait for the storm to hit you,” Pama said in a live television broadcast. At least three towns in the direct path of the storm have initiated a “pre-emptive evacuation,” the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. Classes have been suspended in cities and provinces that are expected to be swamped by floodwaters overnight or on Monday. Kalmaegi, known locally as “Luis,” is moving west northwest at 22 kph, but is expected to weaken and lose speed as it will cross a mountainous region before exiting into the South China Sea.

Headline: Seismologists predict another Icelandic volcano (Bardarbunga) is about to blow

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) pollution from the eruption in Holuhraun spread to Northeast Iceland yesterday. The pollution measured 1,250 micrograms per cubic meter in Reykjahlíð near Lake Mývatn at 11 pm last night, which was much higher than the levels recorded during the day, ruv.is reports. The maximum safety limit for sulfur dioxide is 600 micrograms per cubic meter. People in the area have reported respiratory discomfort. The Icelandic Met Office has issued another warning valid until midnight for Northeast Iceland. Dispersion forecasts indicate a risk of high concentrations of sulfur dioxide in the Mývatn area, Kelduhverfi, Tjörnes, Húsavík, Aðaldalur and Reykjahverfi. A larger pollution area cannot be ruled out. Pollution affected parts of East Iceland last week. In Reyðarfjörður sulfur dioxide measured a record 4,000 micrograms per cubic meter on Friday.
