May 2016 from Africa: In the early morning of Feb. 29, park officials, tourists and locals near Mount Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo heard an unfamiliar sound: rumbling. What they were hearing was the sound of earthquakes deep below the surface. The movement knocked giant rocks off of the crater walls. And at the same time, a new vent appeared on a ledge. Since that day, the vent explodes about every 30 seconds, throwing lava up to 90 feet in the air. Most of that lava flows back into the volcano, while the rest of it cools in the crater itself.

Parliament Speaker Atef Tarawneh announced on Tuesday that the Jordanian Parliament has refused to approve the attendance of an Israeli delegation at an international summit held in Jordan this week. Tarawneh added that the parliament called on the organizers of the summit to shun any Israeli representation at the event, Jordanian media reported. He explained at a press conference that the Jordanian Parliament is demonstrating through this step that it holds a position different than that of the official Jordanian stance on the peace agreement with Israel. A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Japan 7 km (4.3 mi) southwest of Ueki, Kumamoto Prefecture on April 14 at a depth of 10.0 km (6.2 mi). The shock had a maximum intensity of VIII (Severe).[57] Nine people were killed, while more than 800 others were injured.[58][59] At least 20 homes and a wall of the Kumamoto Castle collapsed, while more than 24,000 people were forced to spend several nights in shelters.[60][61] This was a foreshock of the 7.0 quake.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck offshore of Guatemala 105 km (65 mi) south-southwest of Champerico on April 15 at a depth of 25.0 km (15.5 mi). The shock had a maximum intensity of IV (Light).[64]
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Japan 1 km (0.62 mi) west-southwest of Kumamoto City on April 15 at a depth of 10.0 km (6.2 mi). The shock had a maximum intensity of IX (Violent).[65] 39 people were killed, three people were declared to be still missing and more than 1,000 others were injured. 8,700 buildings were damaged and a bridge collapsed in Aso.[66]
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Ecuador 27 km (17 mi) south southeast of Muisne on April 16 at a depth of 19.2 km (11.9 mi). The shock had a maximum intensity of VIII (Severe).[67] 660 people were killed, 32 missing, and over 4,600 injured. 7,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged.[68]

Headline: Amid fear of Hezbollah attack, IDF walls off section of Lebanon border
Fearing plots by Hezbollah to send gunmen into Israel to attack soldiers and civilians, Israel is gradually walling off further parts of its northern border with Lebanon. Israel’s Channel 2 news on Wednesday showed sections of concrete wall being installed near to Kibbutz Misgav Am, a border community in the Upper Galilee. It noted that a project to bolster the border area had been underway for some time. In 2012, a seven-meter (23-foot) high wall separating Israel from Lebanon near the border town of Metulla was completed. The 1,200-meter-long (3,937-foot) wall is outfitted with sophisticated cameras and sensory equipment aimed at preventing infiltration. The 2006 Second Lebanon War began with a cross-border attack by Hezbollah. Wednesday’s footage was broadcast two days after the Israel Defense Forces began a surprise military exercise in northern Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated in Moscow alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday what he said on the Golan Heights on Sunday: the strategic plateau will always remain part of Israel. Netanyahu, who flew for the day to Moscow for a meeting with Putin, said during statements in the Kremlin beforehand that “we we cannot return to the days and times when our villages were shot at from the Golan Heights, therefore, whether within the framework of an agreement or without one, the Golan Heights will remain part of [Israeli] sovereign territory.” Netanyahu said earlier this week that his comments about the Golan Heights were necessary following a draft for a Syrian peace agreement circulated by the UN special envoy which called, in its very first clause, for Israel to return the Golan to Syria. The premier said that he had come to Moscow with one central goal: “to strengthen the security coordination between us to prevent mistakes, misunderstandings and unnecessary accidents” between Israeli and Russian forces operating in Syria.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi called Thursday for a special criminal court to be set up for Israel, at a meeting to condemn an announcement that it will never cede the Golan Heights to Syria. Delegates to the 22-member Arab bloc based in Cairo are expected to pass a resolution denouncing Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s pledge Sunday that the Golan would remain Israeli “forever”. Israel liberated the Golan during the 1967 Middle East war with Syria, Egypt and Jordan, and annexed it in 1981, in a move never recognized by the international community. Israel was acting like “a country that is above the law and accountability”, Arabi told delegates at the start of the meeting. He demanded “a special criminal court for the Palestinian cause” to try Israel, like the ones set up for Serbian war crimes. Saudi Arabia’s ambassador in Cairo and delegate to the Arab League, Ahmed Qattan, accused Israel of trying to profit from the conflict in Syria – an ironic claim given Saudi Arabia’s own heavy intervention in Syria. “The Zionist entity is exploiting the years of crisis in Syria,” he said.

The French government will convene a summit in Paris on May 30 aimed at renewing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, to be attended by dozens of foreign ministers. Israeli diplomats said that France updated Israel Thursday on the conference, and invitations will be sent to participants on Friday. The foreign ministers’ meeting will occur without the participation of Israeli and Palestinian representatives, ahead of the main international peace conference that France hopes to hold in Paris over the summer. Israeli diplomats said that in early May, senior diplomats from all participating countries will hold a preparatory meeting to discuss the foreign ministers’ meet. In recent months, French envoy Pierre Vimont has held a series of consultations with Israel, the Palestinians and a host of other countries in the European Union, the Arab world, the United States and Russia to hear their views regarding the peace conference initiative.

Headline: Hundreds of Palestinians march in support of Jerusalem bus bombing suspect
A mass demonstration took place on Wednesday as hundreds marched to the yard near the house of the family of the Palestinian teenager suspected of carrying out Monday’s Jerusalem bus bombing in a show of support for the young martyr. Abdel Hamid Abu Srour, 19, a resident of the Aida refugee camp near Bethlehem who is suspected of detonating an explosive on a bus in southern Jerusalem that left 20 others injured, died on Wednesday following multiple surgeries. Participants in the solidarity march chanted their support for Hamas saying, “Ayyash will come back”, referring to Yahya Ayyash. During Ayyash’s tenure, Hamas has carried out the most lethal suicide bombings ever to occurr in Israel. The crowd extolled Abu Srour, shouting “Prepare your swords, we are the sons of Mohammad Deif,” reffering to the top commander of Hamas’ military wing, who survived an assassination attempt by the IDF during Operation Protective Edge in August of 2014. The family of the suspected bomber announced that they would not be receiving condolences until they receive and bury his body.

Headline: Houthis agree to join Yemen peace talks in Kuwait
Iran-backed Houthi militants have finally agreed to join United Nations peace talks in Kuwait aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Yemen. “We will [seek to meet] the aspirations of our people to achieve dignity, independence and freedom,” Houthi leader Mahdi Al Mashat said in a statement on Facebook. Talks had been scheduled to start on Monday, but Houthi delegates didn’t show up. Anadolu Agency reported that the Shia group demanded an end to airstrikes being carried out in Yemen by a Saudi-led military coalition. They were also insisting on a “clear agenda.” Al Mashat said late Tuesday that they had received assurances from Kuwait and Oman that there would be an end to violations of a weeklong cease-fire in Yemen by the Saudi coalition.

Islamic State of Iraq and Levant’s (ISIL’s) affiliate in Egypt is suspected in an April 19 rocket attack that killed three Egyptian security personnel. Egypt’s Interior Ministry said a police vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade fired by jihadists in the north Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid. Three riot policemen were killed and eight others wounded. Dozens of security personnel have been killed in attacks since the beginning of this year. Sinai Province, the ISIL affiliate in Egypt, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks and the Interior Ministry said the April 19 attack bore the hallmarks of the ISIL affiliate. Meanwhile, Hamas bolsters security along Gaza border with Egypt saying the move is at request of Cairo; sides seeking to mend ties strained since ouster of Islamist Egyptian president Morsi.

Syria Headline: ISIS takes over key district after clashes with Syrian army in Deir ez-Zor
Subsequent to clashes with Syrian regime army forces, militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) were able Wednesday to control a key neighborhood in Syria’s eastern city of Deir ez-Zor. Amaq agency reported that ISIS militants took control of the last positions of the Assad’s forces in the Sinaa neighborhood of Deir ez-Zor, after fierce battles. Regime security posts in Sinaa fell to ISIS after the group killed more than 20 Syrian soldiers. Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, media activist Mujahid Rifaee confirmed that ISIS militants hang the corpses of the soldiers in a public square in the neighborhood [Sinaa], vowing civilians not to stand beside the regime’s forces, otherwise they would be slaughtered. “They [ISIS militants] were filming the hanged corpses in order to boost their propaganda versions,” Refaee argued.

Kurdish Headline: Kurds raise an army to defend new federal region
Clutching rifles under a bright spring sun, the men are among thousands undergoing obligatory nine-month training to join the Autonomous Protection Forces. The APF, its commander-in-chief Renas Roza says, will be responsible for defending the federal region declared last month at a Kurdish-led conference. “This is the nucleus of a new army that will take up the defense of the federal region in northern Syria,” Roza tells AFP in his headquarters at Amuda near the border with Turkey. The clean-shaven commander sits under a large poster bearing the APF logo – a long, curved sword crossed over a rifle below a red five-point star. Roza says thousands of Kurdish, Arab and Syriac Christian men between the ages of 18 and 30 have completed the compulsory training. For the first two months, conscripts are taught military structure and tactics, and then have lessons on human rights and interaction with civilians. Turkish warplanes conducted two air operations against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in the southeastern provinces of Hakkari and Şırnak on April 21, the Turkish General Staff has announced. “On April 21, 2016, between 6:35 a.m. and 7 a.m., four F-16 fighter jets carried out an air operation on separatist terror organization [PKK] targets in the Dağlıca region [of Hakkari] as a result of evaluating intelligence and six F-16 jets carried out an air operation against PKK targets spotted in the rural area south of [the] Uludere [region of Şırnak] as a result of evaluating intelligence. Headline: US Supreme Court says terror victims can collect $2bn from Iran
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a judgment allowing families of victims of the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut and other terrorist attacks to collect nearly $2 billion in frozen Iranian funds. The court on Wednesday ruled 6-2 in favor of more than 1,300 relatives of the 241 U.S. service members who died in the Beirut bombing and victims of other attacks that courts have linked to Iran. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote the opinion for the court rejecting efforts by Iran’s central bank to try to stave off court orders that would allow the relatives to be paid for their losses. The money is sitting in a federal court trust account. Iran’s Bank Markazi complained that Congress was intruding into the business of federal courts when it passed a 2012 law that specifically directs that the banks’ assets in the United States be turned over to the families. President Barack Obama issued an executive order earlier in 2012 freezing the Iranian central bank’s assets in the United States.

Headline: Afghanistan violence: Deadly bomb and gun attack hits Kabul
At least 28 people have been killed and 329 injured in a huge explosion in the centre of the Afghan capital Kabul, police and officials say. A suicide attacker detonated a vehicle and a fierce gun battle followed. Officials say the attack is now over and the area has been cleared. A Taliban spokesman said the group carried out the attack. It comes a week after it said it was launching its “spring offensive”, warning of large-scale attacks. Tuesday’s bombing happened during the morning rush hour in Pul-e-Mahmud, a busy neighbourhood where homes, mosques, schools and businesses nestle close to the Ministry of Defence, other ministries and military compounds. Soldiers and security officers are reported to be among the casualties, but the majority are civilians. The blast shattered windows up to 1.6km (one mile) away. The Associated Press quoted a police officer as saying it was one of the most powerful explosions he had ever heard, and he could not see or hear anything for 20 minutes after.

Headline: After ‘selling Egypt to Saudi Arabia’, Sisi clashes with Sudan over disputed territory
Shortly after Egypt handed over two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia in a controversial agreement, it is currently facing another territorial dispute, this time with its southern neighbor, Sudan. On Sunday, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry issued a statement about the Red Sea islands deal, affirming that following this agreement, Sudan should receive its right to sovereignty over the Hala’ib and Shalateen areas. Located in the Hala’ib Triangle in the south of Egypt, the two port cities have been contested by both Egypt and Sudan since Sudan gained independence from joint British-Egyptian rule in 1956. Sudan called on Egypt to negotiate over Hala’ib and Shalateen, or solve the dispute in the International Court of Arbitration, stating that it holds historical documents proving that it owns the territory. However, Egypt unequivocally refused to renounce its sovereignty over the Hala’ib Triangle. A statement issued on Wednesday by Egypt’s Foreign Ministry compared the Egyptian-Sudanese dispute to the Egyptian-Saudi dispute over Tiran and Sanafir, the two Red Sea islands. Egypt called on Sudan to imitate it, claiming that just like it handed over the islands to the Saudi Kingdom after they were under Egyptian administration for many years, so should Sudan, which governed the islands temporarily until 1990, return them to Egypt.

Headline: Eastern Libyan military’s jets hit Islamists in Derna
Military forces loyal to Libya’s eastern government said on Thursday they had carried out air strikes overnight against Islamist fighters in Derna after ISIS militants retreated from positions close to the city. Derna has been the site of a three-way conflict between the forces loyal to the eastern government, an Islamist grouping known as the Derna Mujahideen Shura Council and ISIS militants. Fighters from ISIS had controlled the city until the Shura Council forces pushed them out last June. The military has attacked both groups. Military spokesman Abdulkarim Sabra said the overnight air strikes had targeted Shura Council fighters in Derna’s Sayeda Khadija neighborhood and at Bishr prison. He made no comment on possible casualties. Shura Council spokesman Hafed Addabaa said the prison had held ISIS suspects and added that the strikes had not caused any casualties or damage. The military and the Shura Council both claimed credit for Wednesday’s withdrawal of ISIS from positions in Derna’s ‘district 400’ and al-Fatayeh to the south of the city. “We attacked Daesh (ISIS) in al-Fatayeh to recapture the area … The attack was from all sides except the south, which is where they fled,” said Addabaa. Five Shura Council fighters and six civilians were killed by mines and booby traps after they entered al-Fatayeh, he said. Sabra, the military spokesman, said ISIS had retreated because of a year-long blockade by the army and shelling by troops of the militants’ positions.

Gulf monarchies on Wednesday voiced support for Morocco’s claim over the Sahara during a joint summit in Riyadh, where Moroccan King Mohammed VI spoke of a “dangerous” situation. “We stress our support to all political and security causes that are important for your brotherly country, mainly the Sahara,” Saudi King Salman said at the opening of the summit of leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the North African nation. In addition to Saudi Arabia, the GCC includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. King Salman stressed the GCC’s “categorical rejection of any harm to the interests of Morocco” over the disputed territory, where the Algiers-backed Polisario Front demands independence.

Headline: NATO security chiefs warn of ISIS plan for nuclear attack on Europe
Islamic State terrorists are plotting to carry out biological and nuclear attacks on Europe, warned NATO security experts on Wednesday, according to reports by the Telegraph. NATO security chiefs told participants of the Security and Counter Terror Conference in London that there is a ‘justified concern’ that Islamic State militants are actively working to obtain nuclear, radiological and biological materials. According to the experts, ISIS operatives are also developing new ways to avoid security measures to carry out bombings. These methods include planting bombs in human bodies and hacking self-driving cars, reported the Telegraph. “We know terrorists are trying to acquire these substances,” said NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges Dr. Jamie Shea. It is also feared that ISIS has obtained a stock pile of Iraqi short range missiles.

Headline: North Korea may have restarted tunneling at key nuclear site
China is deploying troops along its border with North Korea, as Pyongyang could be preparing a fifth nuclear test ahead of its Seventh Party Congress in May. The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy, a nongovernmental organization in Hong Kong, announced Wednesday that Beijing has dispatched 2,000 soldiers along the border, South Korean news service Newsis reported. China has previously deployed troops along its border with North Korea. In January after Pyongyang announced a “successful” hydrogen bomb test, China reportedly sent 3,000 soldiers to its northeastern region, and also sent troops during the North-South land mine provocation last August. In late 2013, China also dispatched troops in response to the execution of Kim’s uncle-in-law, Jang Sung Taek. The center also said more Chinese military personnel were stationed at two major observation posts, and the guards are acting as lookouts 24 hours a day.

Russia accused the United States on Wednesday of intimidation by sailing a U.S. naval destroyer close to Russia’s border in the Baltics and warned that the Russian military would respond with “all necessary measures” to any future incidents. Speaking after a meeting between NATO envoys and Russia, their first in almost two years, Moscow’s ambassador to NATO said the April 11 maritime incident showed there could be no improvement in ties until the U.S.-led alliance withdrew from Russia’s borders. “This is about attempts to exercise military pressure on Russia,” the envoy, Alexander Grushko, said. “We will take all necessary measures, precautions, to compensate for these attempts to use military force,” he told reporters. U.S. Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute pressed Russia about the incident, warning it had been dangerous. The United States has said the guided missile destroyer USS Cook was on routine business near Poland when it was harassed by Russian jets.

Saudi Arabia is raising $10bn from a consortium of global banks as the kingdom embarks on its first international debt issuance in 25 years to counter dwindling oil revenues and reserves. The landmark five-year loan, a signal of Riyadh’s newfound dependence on foreign capital, opens the way for Saudi to launch its first international bond issue. It comes as the sustained slump in crude encourages other Gulf governments, such as Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman, to tap international bond markets. The oil-rich kingdom, which last weekend blocked a potential deal among oil producers to freeze output and bolster prices, has burnt through $150bn in financial reserves since late 2014 as its fiscal deficit is set to widen to 19 per cent of gross domestic product this year.Strong interest in the loan, especially from Asian banks, came despite rating agency downgrades on Saudi creditworthiness since the oil price collapsed. The government raised the amount it wanted to borrow from $6bn-$8bn to $10bn after the deal was oversubscribed. At least 330 million people are affected by drought in India, the government has told the Supreme Court. Authorities say this number is likely to rise further given that some states with water shortages have not yet submitted status reports. The drought is taking place as a heat wave extends across much of India with temperatures crossing 40C for days now. India is heavily dependant on monsoon rains, which have been poor for two years in a row. The government said that nearly 256 districts across India, home to nearly a quarter of the population were impacted by the drought. Schools have been shut in the eastern state of Orissa and more than 100 deaths due to heatstroke have been reported from across the country, including from the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh which saw more than 2,000 deaths last summer.

Headline: Zika threatens TWO BILLION people across the world
More than two billion people are at risk of Zika virus, experts warn, as they reveal a new map that indicates those areas at greatest risk. The southeastern US, including much of Texas to Florida, have ideal conditions for the virus to spread. Meanwhile, a large portion of tropical and subtropical regions also have highly suitable environmental conditions, and are on the at-risk list. In total, these areas are inhabited by more than 2.17 billion people, scientists at the University of Oxford and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in Seattle, estimate. Researchers produced a fine-scale global map of Zika virus transmission, as part of their study. They identified areas of the world with similar environment and socioeconomic characterstics as areas where the virus has so far been reported. They include areas that experience precipitation and have land cover, as well as complex temperature-based virus incubation models. Lead author, Janey Messina from Oxford University, said: ‘We have comprehensively assembled all the data for Zika occurrence in humans, displayed it as a map, and combined it with detailed predictions of where the virus could spread next. ‘Our global risk map reveals priority regions where authorities could intervene to control the vector population and where surveillance of the virus should be concentrated in order to improve rapid outbreak response and clinical diagnosis.’

Headline: New Elizabethkingia cluster found in Illinois
A new cluster of Elizabethkingia infection, previously rarely seen in humans, has been found in Illinois, health officials said Wednesday. Testing by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the Elizabethkingia anophelis infection in 10 Illinois residents, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Six of those individuals have died. Most of the infected patients had underlying health conditions, and it’s unknown if they died from the infection or pre-existing conditions. The Illinois cluster of cases is a different strain of infection from the one identified in an ongoing Elizabethkingia outbreak in Wisconsin, first reported in March. Fifty-nine cases have been confirmed in that state since November. Eighteen have died. Officials there have said all of those infected had “at least one serious underlying illness” and most are older than 65. The cases began in 2014.

China has unveiled its first interactive robot – which can chat away to humans and even take orders from iCloud. The incredibly life-like robot has taken three years to build and was proudly showed off recently. As this astonishing video shows, she can hold conversations with humans and at one point even responds to a camera being pushed close to her face. As a member of the media holds the camera, she says: “The photo taken from that angle with make my face look bigger”. When the researcher says “hello” to the robot, she replies: “Yes, my lord, what can I do for you.”

On the 15th I posted the Red Flag warning for you to watch for the big ones that are coming. Since warning you the quakes were coming soon there have been 9 “great earthquakes” which is anything from a 6.0 and over. As you can see below today there was a strong earthquake again in Ecuador which is an after shock. I want you all to understand something. The quakes we are presently seeing are strong however, during the tribulation period these present quakes will be small compared to what is coming. No man on Earth has seen the size of quakes that Jesus warns us about!

The United States signalled its opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent declaration that the Golan Heights will forever remain a part of Israel, stressing on Monday that Washington did not consider the Golan a part of Israel. “Every administration on both sides of the aisle since 1967 has maintained that those territories are not part of Israel,” US State Department Spokesman John Kirby told reporters. Kirby went on to say that the conditions under which the Golan Heights should be returned must be decided through negotiations between the respective parties. “And obviously, the current situation in Syria makes it difficult to continue those efforts at this time,” Kirby said. Meanwhile, US Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged “overwhelming frustration” with the Israeli government and said the systemic expansion of Jewish settlements was moving Israel toward a dangerous “one-state reality” and in the wrong direction. Addressing J Street’s annual gala, Biden said despite disagreements with Israel over settlements or the Iran nuclear deal, the United States had an obligation to push Israel toward a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

Last month marked the hottest March in modern history and the 11th consecutive month in which a monthly global temperature record was broken, the longest such streak in the 137 years of record-keeping, US officials said Tuesday. The report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the globally averaged temperature over land and ocean surfaces for March 2016 “was the highest for the month of March in the NOAA global temperature dataset record, which dates back to 1880.” The average temperature planet-wide was 2.20 degrees Fahrenheit (1.22 Celsius) above the 20th century average of 54.9 F (12.7 C), the report said. “This surpassed the previous record set in 2015 by 0.58 F (0.32 C), and marks the highest monthly temperature departure among all 1,635 months on record.”

Headline: Church Leader’s Wife Buried Alive, Killed by Chinese Authorities for Protesting Church Demolition
A Christian house church leader and his wife were buried alive in China’s central Henan province for protesting against the government-ordered demolition of their church, and while the man managed to escape, his wife suffocated to death. China Aid reported on the grisly news on Monday, noting the tragedy occurred last week at Beitou Church in Zhumadian, Henan province. Communist government authorities reportedly ordered the demolition of the church after Li Jiangong, the person in charge of the church, and his wife, Ding Cuimei, refused to hand over the church grounds to a local developer. The husband and wife decided to try and stop the demolition and stepped in front of the bulldozing crew, but were purposefully shoved into a pit, where a bulldozer covered their bodies with soil. “Crying for help, Li was able to dig his way free, but Ding suffocated before she could be rescued,” the report stated. The two crew members responsible for the crime are said to have been detained by authorities, while a criminal investigation team from the public security bureau reviews their case. According to China Aid, one of the demolition team members was heard shouting out the order “bury them alive for me. I will be responsible for their lives.” China Aid President Bob Fu spoke about the vicius killing by saying, “bulldozing and burying alive Ding Cuimei, a peaceful and devout Christian woman, was a cruel, murderous act.”
