Do you remember the ‘Cold War’? I do and most likely many of you do also. We cheered the Berlin Wall coming down in 1990 and heaved a sigh of relief in 1991 with the formal dissolution of the USSR. Back then, no one thought Russia would ever again be the power it is today. But those of us watching and reading Bible prophecy understood something…it wasn’t over. Not by a long shot. God had already made it very clear in 571 BC that Russia- or Magog- would again in these last days be a power that would lead an attack on Israel.
Read Ezekiel 38 & 39. Gog is the leader of the Russian invasion of Israel.
Magog, Meshech, and Tubal comprise modern day Russia. 
And while these events do not show the beginning of the Ezekiel war, they DO show us that God’s Word will come to pass- without doubt! Russia is moving into place to become the ‘power’ that could lead such an attack on Israel. They are also fulfilling Matthew 24:6 “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” and Luke 21:9 and Matthew 24:7 which speak of nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom in the end times. Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. Luke 21:9: wars & commotions; the Greek word here is Akatastasia, meaning instability, a state of disorder, disturbance, confusion (revolutions) Matthew 24:7: the Greek word for nation is Ethnos & refers to various ethnic groups fighting among themselves, where the next sentence in the verse refers to kingdoms (basileiva) fighting one another (not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom)
Earlier today I posted breaking news about Russia ‘invading’ Crimea. 
Before I get to further reports, I want to give you a quick re-cap of the situation for those who may not be familiar with the situation.
In November 2013, Yanukovych’s government announces it is abandoning an agreement that would strengthen ties with the European Union and instead seeks closer cooperation with Moscow. Protesters took the streets and have been there ever since. In January 2014, two protestors die after being hit with live fire, which during his live news conference today, Yanukovych denied ordering police to shoot at protesters. Six days later, the prime minister resigns and parliament repeals the new harsh anti-protest laws that set off the violence of a week earlier. Finally, on February 21st, under a European-mediated plan, protest leaders and Yanukovych agree to form a new government and hold an early election. Parliament slashes his powers and votes to free his rival, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, from prison. Yanukovych flees Kiev after protesters take control of the capital.
Today, on the ground reports indicated Russian troops have taken up positions around a coast guard base and two airports on its strategic Crimea peninsula. Armed men have extended their control at a military airport in Ukraine’s Crimea region on Friday by taking over the runway, Interfax news agency quoted a military source as saying. “Around 400 people are in the airport of Belbek now. They have occupied runway and all plane movements have been stopped,” the news agency quoted the source as saying. At the same time, AP journalists in Crimea have spotted a convoy of nine Russian armored personnel carriers and a truck on a road between the port city of Sevastopol and the regional capital, Sinferopol. Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service also said about 30 Russian marines from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet — which is based in Sevastopol — had taken up position outside the Ukrainian Coast Guard base in the area. 
Although Russian denial of involvement in the military airport action came immediately, swift confirmation followed that they had indeed moved into Crimea. A serviceman at the scene confirmed to Reuters he was from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, part of which is based in Sevastopol, and said they were there to stop the kind of protests that ousted Yanukovich in Kiev and to “protect Black Sea Fleet’s positions” but which the Ukrainian government has denounced as an “armed intervention.”
Headline: Russia admits that it has moved troops in Ukraine
The Russian foreign ministry said Friday that it had informed the Ukrainian government that armoured units from the Black Sea Fleet base near Sevastopol had entered Crimea in order to protect fleet positions.“The Ukrainian side was also passed a note regarding the movement of armoured vehicles of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, which is happening in full accordance with the foundation Russian-Ukrainian agreement on the Black Sea Fleet,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Friday afternoon. In the same note the Russian foreign ministry said it had declined a Ukrainian request for “bilateral consultations” on events in Crimea because they are “the result of recent internal political processes in Ukraine.”

It has also been confirmed that Russia is negotiating with eight governments around the world for access to military facilities, to enable it to extend its long-range naval and strategic bomber capabilities. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday the military was engaged in talks with Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Algeria, Cyprus, the Seychelles, Vietnam and Singapore. It would certainly explain why we saw a Russian spy ship dock in Havana yesterday!

Meanwhile, ousted Ukrainian president Yanukovych gave a press conference from Russia. The fugitive leader said he was forced to leave Ukraine due to threats. Defending his disappearance from public view in recent days, Yanukovych said he “did not flee anywhere” but left for Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine and intends to return when he is assured international safety. “I will return to Ukraine as soon as the safety of myself and my family can be guaranteed,” Yanukovych said. He blamed the country’s crisis on “irresponsible Western policy,”and said he trusted the “decency of Western mediators” when he signed a peace deal last week brokered by members of the European Union. But recent actions by the opposition run counter to the agreement, he said. Yanukovych said he does not plan to ask Russia for military support in dealing with the crisis in Ukraine, where he said power was stolen by `a bunch of radicals.” Although he has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone, the two have not met but agreed to sit down soon, Yanukovych said. It was also just announced that the Ukraine has put a ‘crisis limit’ on cash withdrawls to 1,000 Euros per day – approximately $1,380 US.

We know Russia is deeply involved in Syria, but what I’d like to talk about today is a news article I posted yesterday:
Headline: Syrian Christians sign treaty of submission to Islamists
Christian leaders in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, captured by an organization formerly affiliated with al-Qaeda, have signed a submission document this week banning them from practicing Christianity in public in return for protection by their Islamist rulers. The document, dated Sunday and disseminated through Islamist Twitter accounts, states that the Christian community in the province of Raqqa, captured last March by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), was recently given three options: to convert to Islam; to remain Christian but pledge submission to Islam; or to “face the sword.” They opted for the second of those choices, known as dhimmitude. Earlier this month, al-Qaeda’s central command distanced itself from ISIS, saying it was “not a branch of al-Qaeda.” The authenticity of the document, displaying the stamp of al-Qaeda, could not be independently verified. The signatures of 20 Christian leaders at the bottom of the document said to have been party to the agreement were blotted out, ostensibly at their own request. According to classic Islamic law, Christians and Jews living under Muslim sovereignty must pay a tax known as jizya in return for the Muslim ruler’s protection, known as dhimma.

While this is persecution as seen in Matthew 24:9 (“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.”), it is also a form of apostasy.
Please don’t mis-understand me- we should ALWAYS be praying for our brothers and sisters in the Lord as they are part of our Christian family. But as the Lord told us in Matthew 7:16 “Ye shall know them by their fruits”. The word FRUIT here is from the Greek karpos, meaning the fruit of the trees or a work, act or DEED. And their DEED was to submit to an Islamic authority, who by their OWN admission do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
” It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, “Be”, and it is. Verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord: therefore serve Him; this is the Straight Way. [The Holy Qur’an, Surah 19:35-36].
By submitting to this authority, whose beliefs contradict the very ESSENCE of salvation, these our brethren in Syria have committed apostasy.
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord.” (Amos 8:11)
“ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.” (2 Peter 2:1-3)
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.” (1 Timothy 4:1-3)
Let’s take a look at what exactly they’ve agreed to:
The Christian community in the province of Raqqa was recently given three options: to convert to Islam; to remain Christian but pledge submission to Islam; or to “face the sword.” They opted for the second of those choices, known as dhimmitude. Christians agreed to a list of conditions:
to abstain from renovating churches or monasteries in Raqqa
not to display crosses or religious symbols in public or use loudspeakers in prayer
not to read scripture indoors loud enough for Muslims standing outside to hear
not to undertake subversive actions against Muslims
not to carry out any religious ceremonies outside the church
not to prevent any Christian wishing to convert to Islam from doing so
to respect Islam and Muslims and say nothing offensive about them
to pay the jizya tax worth four golden dinars for the rich, two for the average, and one for the poor, twice annually, for each adult Christian
to refrain from drinking alcohol in public and to dress modestly.
Under Ottoman rule, dhimmis (non-Muslim subjects) were allowed to “practice their religion, subject to certain conditions, and to enjoy a measure of communal autonomy” and guaranteed their personal safety and security of property, in return for paying tribute to Muslims and acknowledging Muslim supremacy. The Qur’an 9:29 states that Muslims are to “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” According to Sufi saint Ahmad Sirhindi’s opinion (or Fatwa) , a celebrated Muslim thinker and theologian of the Naqshbandi Sufi order, “The honour of Islam lies in insulting kufr and kafirs. One who respects the kafirs dishonours the Muslims… The real purpose of levying jiziya on them is to humiliate them to such an extent that they may not be able to dress well and to live in grandeur. They should constantly remain terrified and trembling. It is intended to hold them under contempt and to uphold the honour and might of Islam.” (Sufi saint Ahmad Sirhindi (1564-1624), letter No. 163)
I personally know someone who- 3 1/2 years ago- went to a Syrian Orthodox Church leader and tried to offer help. This person wanted to know what was being done to get the ‘brethren’ out of Syria BEFORE it came to this point. This was before the Syrian revolution truly started and they went simply on faith that what God’s Word said is TRUE. This person was unequivocally, undeniably rejected and told to ‘stay out of it’. What would have happened if those leaders had listened to this Christian or better yet- listened to the Word of the Lord? I suppose we’ll never know.
And as I said, we should never stop praying for our brothers and sisters. I can only leave you with the words of James 1:12 ” Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him”

Israel sent a warning to the Lebanese government in Beirut by way of UNIFIL that it would be held responsible for any attacks by Hezbollah that are launched from Lebanese soil, reported al-Akhbar News Agency on Friday.

Headline: Police to Limit Muslim Access to Temple Mount on Friday
Israeli police have announced they will limit access for Muslim men to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound during Friday prayers to prevent possible clashes following services, AFP reported Thursday. Police spokeswoman Luba Samri told the news agency that men under the age of 50 will be barred from Friday prayers, based on intelligence of plans for unrest, with security forces bolstering their presence in the area.

Headline: Iranian Official: ‘We are Preparing to Liberate Jerusalem’
The Islamist Basij militia force in Tehran ran a special military exercise Thursday and Friday preparing for an Iranian takeover of Jerusalem. The exercise, entitled “March to Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem),” included training in the event of such a takeover, including drills for the protection of cities, assistance and rescue, dealing with social unrest, the protection of sensitive and important military centers, dealing with the invasion and landing of “enemy” (IDF) forces from helicopters, and carrying out complicated tactical maneuvers at night. In an official statement, the militia said that the exercise is designed to develop and enhance the capabilities of the Al-Maqdis Brigades, improve Basij military competence, and foster a “self-sacrificing spirit” among the terrorists.
