Headline: Hamas, Fatah resume reconciliation talks in Gaza
The two main Palestinian political factions Hamas and Fatah are discussing ways to resolve differences at a meeting in the Gaza Strip. The talks were held on Sunday between a high-level Fatah delegation led by Nabil Shaath and Ismail Haniyeh, the democratically elected Palestinian prime minister. Haniyeh said that Hamas has a strategic decision to compromise with Fatah. He stated that Hamas is looking for initiatives to provide a positive atmosphere for reconciliation talks. Elsewhere in his remarks, Haniyeh warned that US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent proposal for a deal between Israel and the Palestinian Authority will not help regional peace because it does not recognize Palestinians’ rights. During his trip to Gaza, Shaath also met with a number of other Hamas officials to end years of rivalry between the two parties.

Headline: Israeli PM meets top ministers over boycott threat: reports
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with three of his top ministers to discuss ways to deal with the threat of economic boycotts against Israel, media reported Monday. The meeting on Sunday night was attended by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett and Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz, the reports said. The meeting comes less than a fortnight after US Secretary of State John Kerry warned that Israel was facing a growing campaign of delegitimisation which could worsen if peace talks with the Palestinians collapsed. Maariv newspaper noted that Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Finance Minister Yair Lapid, who echoed Kerry’s sentiment in recent remarks, were not invited to Sunday’s meeting. Israeli officials have refused to comment on the reports. A growing number of governments and international businesses have said they will not trade with Israeli firms with ties to Jewish settlements, highlighting the creeping success of a Palestinian-led boycott campaign. The so-called BDS movement — boycott, divestment and sanctions — works to convince governments, businesses and celebrities to cut ties with Israeli companies active in the occupied Palestinian territories, in a bid to repeat the success of the boycott which ended apartheid in South Africa.

Headline: Rocket Strikes Near Ashkelon
Terrorists fired a Qassam rocket from Gaza into Israel Monday afternoon, sparking the “red alert” alarm along the Ashkelon coast and surrounding communities. The rocket landed in an open field near the Ashkelon coast; no injuries or damage was reported. It came after a barrage of rockets hit the country over the past several days. Saturday night, a rocket fell in the northwestern area of the Negev. Last Thursday, Israel suffered from three attacks; a grad rocket was fired at the Eshkol Regional Council, terrorists fired a rocket at Ashkelon, and another rocket was fired at the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. The IAF responded Sunday by wounding a senior Gaza terrorist, 29 year-old Abdulla Harti. Harti has been directly involved in the attacks. The rockets prompted a severe warning from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who opened his weekly Cabinet meeting with choice words for Israel’s enemies. “Our resolute policy against terrorism may be summed up in a single principle: Whoever attacks us or plans to attack us – will bear the consequences,” he declared.

Headline: Kerry fails to get Obama backing to confront Israel on peace terms’
US Secretary of State John Kerry sought but failed to get backing from President Barack Obama to confront Israel over its objections to his peace proposals, and therefore his bid to try impose terms for peace on Israel and the Palestinians has “pretty much collapsed,” an Israeli TV report claimed on Sunday night. Citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations, Channel 10 news said that Kerry, who had hoped to impose a binding “framework” agreement on the two sides, covering all the key core issues for a peace agreement, sought Obama’s “political backing for confrontation primarily with Israel,” but got the presidential cold-shoulder. It was deemed that now was “not the time for such moves” for the president, the report said. As a result, Kerry’s effort to put together a substantive framework agreement “has pretty much collapsed for now.” There was no independent confirmation of the report. The document the secretary is finalizing, the TV report said, still includes clauses providing for a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 lines and for recognition of Israel as a Jewish state. But its formulation regarding Jerusalem, a “very problematic” clause for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is “amorphous,” the report said.

Headline: Palestinian envoy to peace talks rebuffs Livni: We won’t recognize Israel as a Jewish state
Saeb Erekat makes statement to Voice of Palestine radio following reports that Livni said the Palestinians would “surprise” on issue; Erekat also denies PA has agreed to extension of talks past April deadline. The Palestinian Authority reiterated Monday its refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The announcement came in response to statements attributed to Justice Minister Tzipi Livni to the effect that the PA is ready to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Livni’s comments were made at a meeting of the Israeli government’s Ministerial Committee on Legislation, Ma’ariv reported. Livni, who heads the Israeli negotiating team with the PA, implied during the meeting that the PA may change its position on the issue of Israel’s Jewish character. Lvini told Senior Citizens Minister Uri Orbach (Bayit Yehudi) that he should “expect to be surprised” regarding the PA’s willingness to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Livni was reacting to Orbach’s assertion that the Palestinians would never accept Israel as a Jewish state. But Erekat, head of the PA negotiating team, told the Voice of Palestine radio station that the Palestinians would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

Headline: Jihadists in Lebanon Target Shiites
Jihadist groups in Lebanon are coordinating a bombing campaign against Shiite Muslim neighborhoods in Lebanon and fanning the flames of sectarian hatred, say Lebanese security sources. Cooperation extends to transportation and logistics, according to Lebanese army sources, and factions are coordinating suicide bombings carried out in Lebanon – there have been a dozen in the past seven months—trading bomb-makers and smugglers as well as sharing intelligence. The biggest public expression of jihadist coordination came when three separate jihadist groups issued in mid-January explanations justifying their waging war in Lebanon. One of the groups, the Lebanese wing of Jabhat al-Nusra, urged in its online statement Lebanese Sunni Muslims to avoid Shiite neighborhoods because more bombings are on the way.

Headline: Hezbollah deepens role in Syria. Israel, Syria, Lebanon “regions of conflict”
Headline: Israel heightens alert ahead of Mughniyeh anniversary
In a fundamental policy makeover, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) high command has resolved to deepen the Lebanese Hizballah’s intervention in the Syrian civil war, with wide repercussions on the stability of Lebanon and the Syrian and Lebanese borders with Israel. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC’s terrorist and intelligence arm, the Al Qods Brigades, was appointed to execute this policy of expanded regional intervention. debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report that it embodies the latest decision by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to strictly separate Tehran’s approach to international nuclear diplomacy opposite the US from its intervention in regional conflicts – Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinians – and direct confrontation with Israel. Henceforth, Iran’s tactics in nuclear diplomacy for the relief of sanctions, and in the negotiations resuming in Geneva, Monday, Feb. 10 for ending the Syria war, will be sealed off in a separate policy compartment from the Islamic Republic’s pursuit of its regional goals in the “war arenas” of Syria, Lebanon and Israel. Syrian President Bashar Assad and Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah were notified of this change last week. It first surfaced in a call to arms by Hizballah’s second in command Sheikh Naim Qassem, which is reported to have drawn 5,000 new Shiite volunteers in its first push. The new intake will receive military training in crash courses for missions in Lebanon and a higher level of combat instruction for the Syrian battlefield. Qassem announced in a pep speech in Beirut: “We will continue our work and remain in the field committed to our political stances. We will remain fighting where we are fighting. We are a resistance wherever we are: a resistance against Israel and its agents and a resistance fighting in Syria in defense of the resistance.”

Headline: Saudi Arabia Has Asked Pakistan To Dispatch Two Army Divisions To The Kingdom
According to the Urdu-language daily Roznama Naya Akhbar, Saudi Arabia has asked Pakistan to dispatch two divisions of its army (some 30,000 troops) to the kingdom as part of a bilateral defense agreement currently being formulated between the two countries. The report has it that Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Shareef is currently in Saudi Arabia to promote the agreement. It also mentioned that there may be progress on Pakistan’s sale of JF-17 Thunder fighter planes and Al-Khalid tanks to Saudi Arabia. The daily Roznama Ummat stated that the two Pakistani divisions will train Saudi troops. It mentioned that Pakistani troops have been deployed in Saudi Arabia in the past, but later the Americans began training the Saudi forces instead, which led to cultural conflicts. The daily speculated that Saudi Arabia may be interested not only in Pakistan’s military assistance, but also in playing a role in the talks with the Taliban.

Headline: Egyptian Authorities Accuse Islamist Group of Forming ‘Military Wing’
Egyptian authorities have accused the ousted Muslim Brotherhood of building an insurrectionary military wing to stage attacks against security forces. The accusation comes as mass protests across the country wane but violent attacks increase. Egypt’s Interior Ministry said Sunday the alleged ”military wing” is based in the city of Beni Suef, south of Cairo. It also named 12 people that belong to the alleged Brotherhood-led unit, reports the Associated Press. Groups supporting the deposed president Mohammad Morsi have claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Cairo, using Molotov cocktails and homemade grenades against police vehicles and troop barracks in the city. Within the last month, major incidents have included a jihadist attack on an Egyptian military helicopter in Sinai and a deadly car bombing in Cairo. While an al-Qaeda inspired group has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks, new groups believed to be Muslim Brotherhood supporters have turned to violence as well.

The government delegation is again headed by Foreign Minister Walid Moallem. It was not clear if opposition coalition leader Ahmad Jarba was there. The first round mediated by UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi ended without agreement on any of the issues – ranging from a transitional government to humanitarian aid for besieged areas. Several hundred starving women, children and elderly people were evacuated from Homs Sunday. However, some of the evacuees were killed by mortar shells.

Headline: Islamist fighters seize village in Syria’s Hama
An Alawite village in the central province of Hama was seized by Islamist fighters on Sunday, Reuters news agency reported, adding that the fighting was “part of an offensive to try to cut off supply routes from Damascus to the north of the country.” The fighters, battling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, allegedly killed 25 people in the village of Maan, mainly from a pro-Assad National Defense Force militia, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said. Authorities gave a different death count, saying the dead were mainly women and children and accused the fighters of committing a massacre on the eve of the resumption of peace talks in Geneva. “This massacre isn’t the first,” Social Affairs Minister Kind al-Shamat told Syrian television, saying similar attacks had taken place during the nearly three-year conflict and been ignored by the outside world. Residents of Maan, east of Syria’s main north-south highway, are from the same Alawite minority as the Assad family which has ruled Syria for the last four decades. Rebels fighting to overthrow Assad are overwhelmingly from the country’s Sunni Muslim majority, backed by Islamist and jihadi fighters from across the Islamic world.

Listed below are the nations which will attack Israel from Ezekiel chapter 38 and their modern day names.
Gog is the leader of the Russian invasion of Israel.
Magog, Meshech, and Tubal comprise modern day Russia.
Persia is Iran, parts of northern Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Cush is Ethiopia and Sudan.
Put is Libya and will most likely include Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco.
Gomer is Eastern Germany.
Beth Togarmah is Turkey and Armenia.
There are major differences between the Psalm 83 war and the Ezekiel 38 war which shows us they are not the same war. Here are a few major differences. At the current time Israel is still calling for Peace and safety and they have bars, gates, and walls to protect them from the PLO. The told Ezekiel this war will take place when Israel is living in peace and feeling safe. As long as the enemies of Israel listed in the Psalm 83 war are working to wipe out Israel, Israel will never feel safe enough to remove any of the bars, gates, or walls which shows us the Psalm war has to take place first. Another major difference between the Psalm war and Ezekiel war is the nations who attack Israel are different. In the Psalm 83 war you see the nations that border Israel attacking her. The nations listed to attack Israel in the Ezekiel war do not show any of the nations which are listed in the Psalm war. Why? The answer is simple. Israel will already have destroyed the nations who attacked them in the Psalm 83 war and they will make no other to attempt to wipe them out. When the nations listed in the Ezekiel war see what Israel did to their Brothers listed in the Psalm war they in turn will pick up the torch and try to do what the Psalm 83 nations couldn’t do, wipe Israel off the map. How will this Ezekiel 38-39 war end. God tells us that 5/6 of the entire army that attacks Israel will be killed. At the end of the day Israel will have won the Psalm 83 war and the Ezekiel war. In the Psalm 83 war the IDF will have defeated their enemies. In the Ezekiel it will be God who steps in to wipe out all the armies who try to wipe out Israel. The current events you are now witnessing in the Middle East is setting up the scene for both the Psalm war and Ezekiel war.

Despite the signing of a landmark nuclear deal in November with the P5+1 world powers, and a moderate tone coming from President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, Iranian defense officials escalated sharply their rhetoric against the United States over the weekend. On Sunday, Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy Commander Ali Fadavi said that the US knows that its aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf would be sunk if it launched a military strike on Iran. “The Americans can sense by all means how their warships will be sunk with 5,000 crews and forces in combat against Iran and how they should find its hulk in the depths of the sea,” said Fadavi, according to Fars news agency. “They cannot hide themselves in the sea since the entire Middle East region, western Europe, the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman and the Straits of Hormuz are monitored by us and there is no place for them to hide.” Also Sunday, Iran’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan touted the Iranian military’s ability to respond to an American attack, Fars reported. “The Iranian Armed Forces are an intertwined and coherent complex that can give a decisive response to any threat at any level and any place under the command of the Commander-in-Chief,” Dehqan said in a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the revolution that brought the current Islamic regime to power. “The enemy can never assess and think of the range of the response given by the powerful and mighty Armed Forces of the Islamic Iran,” he added.

Two brutal incidents in Iraq, in which one saw decapitated heads being strewn in a marketplace, killed nine people on Sunday. The second incident involved militants forced Shiite policemen to pray before killing them, Agence France-Presse reported. Both took place in the Salaheddin province, north of Baghdad, security and medical officials told the news agency. In one ethnically-mixed town, militants surrounded a police encampment protecting a stadium construction site and gathered the six policemen as a group and shot them all dead, two security officials and a doctor at the local hospital told the news agency. One of the six, however, only died at hospital, and according to a local Tuz official, said that the insurgents had attempted to find out if the policemen were Sunni or Shiite before killing them. The policemen were allegedly asked which which sect they belonged to and the policemen, who were Shiite Turkmen, initially said they were Sunni in an effort to save themselves, the town official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to AFP.

Headline: South Sudan rebels boycott latest round of peace talks
South Sudanese rebels said they would boycott the next round of peace talks starting in Ethiopia on Monday unless the government freed political prisoners and sent home the Ugandan troops who have been supporting it. The Addis Ababa talks, which secured a ceasefire last month, are intended to end a conflict that has claimed the lives of thousands of people and displaced more than half a million South Sudanese since it broke out on December 15. The rebels, lead by former vice president Riek Machar, said they wanted four remaining political prisoners held by the Juba government to be released and the Ugandan army, which has been backing President Salva Kiir, to withdraw from South Sudan. “We are hereby informing all parties … that we are abstaining from participating in the next round of peace talks, which are scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa today,” the rebels said in a statement. The said they had evidence that the Ugandan army was “still actively engaged in combat” despite a ceasefire, and accused Kiir’s forces of besieging a United Nations compound housing displaced people in Juba.

Under the new legislation, the Turkish government could also request users’ communications and traffic information from providers with no court ruling. Headline: USA: Government ‘weeks from debt default’
THE United States Congress has been warned the federal government could start missing payments on its bills from 27 February if the limit on borrowing is not increased. Treasury secretary Jack Lew said measures approved by President Barack Obama’s administration aimed at staving off a default would only allow three weeks’ leeway thereafter. A 16-day federal shutdown in October cost US taxpayers about $2 billion (£1.22bn) in lost productivity and laid off 850,000 employees. It was triggered because the House of Representatives, controlled by the Republicans, and the Senate, controlled by Obama’s Democrats, could not agree on borrowing levels. Rows were focused on funding for the landmark “Obamacare” health act, the biggest shake-up of the US paid-for healthcare system since the 1960s. The Republicans eventually relented in the face of public anger and approved funding until this month. By 27 February, when those funding measures are again exhausted, the government anticipates having roughly $50bn in cash which it would have to burn through to pay its bills. The money would not last long, the administration said. “Any foreseeable cash balance would be exhausted quickly,” Lew warned in the letter to House leaders. It would then “be impossible for our nation to meet all of its obligations,” he added.

Headline: China blasts US meddling in regional sea disputes
China is likely to mobilize electromagnetic pulse weapons against the United States in any potential war over the Taiwan strait, according to a report prepared by F. Michael Maloof, a retired US defense department official for the WorldNetDaily, a conservative news website based in Washington. Given the possibility that the United States Navy will deploy its aircraft carrier to the Western Pacific in the event of China entering into a territorial conflict with Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines over the East and South China Sea or launching any potential military action against Taiwan, Maloof indicated that the People’s Liberation Army is looking to use the electromagnetic pulse weapons as part of a “one-two punch” to knock out the defensive electronics aboard the US vessels. The electromagnetic pulses could be released through the explosion of a nuclear weapon at altitude over the region China wants to target. The damage to the US vessels or allied command center in the region would include a complete loss of electronics, computers, automated systems, communications, food, utility and even transportation services. Maloof hit out at the Pentagon for ignoring the development of Chinese electromagnetic pulse weapons.

The US B-52 bomber, the same aircraft spotted over China’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ) last year, could potentially be deployed to the area once again to conduct strategic bombings against the Chinese from its airbase at Guam. Citing the Tokyo-based Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the paper said that the US Navy is also likely to replace the USS Denver, the Austin-class amphibious transport dock currently stationed in Japan, with the more advanced San Antonio-class landing platform dock, USS Green Bay, in 2015. With a displacement of 16,914 tonnes, the USS Green Bay is not only larger than the USS Denver, but also has the capability to carry up to five MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and 14 amphibious assault vehicles.

“And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceriesor their sexual immorality or their thefts.” Revelation 9:21
In Revelation 9:21 we see Jesus speaking to us about drug’s. The words “magic arts” in Revelation 9:21 is the Greek word pharmakia from which comes our word “pharmacy”. It signifies the use of medicine, drugs, spells, such as those used in witchcraft and those used today by those who are seeking a greater “high”. This generation was to be labeled a drug generation and we are.
Headline: 70 million Americans taking mind-altering drugs
The heroin-overdose death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has caused the media to focus, however fleetingly, on America’s drug problem. News accounts of the Oscar-winner’s tragic demise typically reference the startling increase in heroin-related deaths in the last four to five years. The problem, reporters explain, is the vast number of Americans addicted to prescription pain meds like OxyContin, many of whom discover heroin to be both cheaper and easier to obtain than the prescription opioid drugs to which they initially became addicted. That’s accurate as far as it goes. But by following the trail further, we arrive at a place far more shocking and consequential. We discover that not only has the traditional distinction between illegal “street drugs” and legal “therapeutic prescription drugs” become so blurred as to be almost nonexistent, but between America’s twin drug epidemics – one illegal, the other legal – well over 70 million Americans are using mind-altering drugs. And that number doesn’t include abusers of alcohol, which adds an additional 60 million Americans. So we’re really talking about 130 million strung-out Americans. How is this possible?

Logan County authorities say an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 caused minor damage to the county jail. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that the earthquake caused several cracks in the walls of the jail in Guthrie, but that no injuries are reported and that inmates were not moved and remain at the jail. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at 8:16 p.m. Saturday about four miles southwest of Langston, some eight miles east of Guthrie and about 30 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The U.S.G.S. initially estimated the magnitude at 4.4, but later revised it downward. A second quake with an estimated magnitude of 2.8 was recorded at 10:55 p.m. in the same area and caused no reported damage.

Headline: Tokyo snowstorm takes seven lives, injures 1,000
Heavy snow in Japan’s capital, Tokyo, has disrupted transportation systems, leaving eleven people dead and more than 1,000 others injured. As much as 27 centimeters (10.6 inches) of snow was recorded in Tokyo by late Saturday, the heaviest snowfall in the Japanese capital in 45 years, meteorologists said on Sunday. Hundreds of flights as well as bullet train services were canceled in Tokyo and the surrounding areas. Moreover, at Narita International Airport near Tokyo, more than 8,000 people were forced to spend Saturday night in the terminal, as expressway buses and railways connecting the airport to Tokyo became inoperative. According to local media reports, the fatalities attributed to the snowstorm were due to accidents caused by icy road conditions. More than 20,000 households were without electricity early Sunday, while airlines canceled nearly 300 domestic flights a day after more than 740 flights were grounded.

Headline: Burundi floods: Many dead in Bujumbura
At least 50 people are reported to have died after floods and landslides hit the Burundi capital, Bujumbura. The BBC’s Cyiriaque Muhawenayo in the city says it is not yet possible to give accurate figures because bodies may be hidden in the mud or under debris. One man said he had lost nine relatives. Our correspondent says the main hospital’s morgue is full, and that people are being treated outside. Water and mud flooding down from hills outside the city have washed away hundreds of houses, according to police. “The rain that fell in torrents overnight on the capital caused a disaster,” Security Minister Gabriel Nizigama told reporters. “We have already found the bodies of 51 people killed when their houses collapsed or were swept away,” he said. The AFP news agency reports that torrential rain fell for 10 hours overnight and caused widespread power cuts. Roads and crops have also been destroyed. Bujumbura is on a plain that lies between a range of hills and Lake Tanganyika.

Headline: Western France braces for further floods
Flooded homes along the River Thames are being evacuated and thousands more are at risk, with water levels expected to rise further over the next 24 hours. Residents in one Berkshire village say the scenes are from a “horror movie”. Fourteen severe flood warnings are in place in Berkshire and Surrey, while two remain in Somerset. PM David Cameron – who is in flood-hit Dorset – said it was not the time to change personnel amid criticism of Environment Agency head Lord Smith. Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has been answering an urgent question put by Labour in the Commons on the flooding crisis. Homes in the Berkshire village of Datchet are underwater and hundreds more along the lower River Thames, as far as Shepperton, are under threat, the Environment Agency says. Several Thames gauges are showing their highest levels since being installed in the 1980s and 90s.

Luke 21:9 and Matthew 24:7 speak of nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom in the end times. Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. I like to call this “The Arab Spring in Prophecy” because for us it is easy to identify- that’s what the world calls it. Luke 21:9: wars & commotions; the Greek word here is Akatastasia, meaning instability, a state of disorder, disturbance, confusion (revolutions) Matthew 24:7: the Greek word for nation is Ethnos & refers to various ethnic groups fighting among themselves, where the next sentence in the verse refers to kingdoms (basileiva) fighting one another (not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom)

Headline: Lynching of Christian man by Muslims is sign of chaos in Central African Republic
At least ten people, including two Muslims, have been killed in the unrelenting violence and looting in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), reports says. Fighting erupted late on Saturday between the Christians and Muslims in the west of the capital, where several houses, belonging to Muslim families were torched, local witnesses and humanitarian groups said on Sunday. Two Muslim civilians were also lynched in the western part of Bangui. According to the witnesses at the scene, an African peacekeeper killed an assailant from anti-balaka Christian militia while he was about to burn the body of the lynched Muslim. The former French colony spiraled into chaos in March last year when Seleka fighters overthrew former president, Francois Bozize, and brought Michael Djotodia to power. Bozize fled the country after his ouster.

Headline: Somali capital hit by twin bomb blasts
Two bomb attacks targeting officials with Somalia’s internationally-backed government hit the capital Mogadishu on Monday, killing at least one person and injuring several others, officials and witnesses said. The first attack hit a car carrying Ahmed Omar Mudane, deputy security commander of the lower Shabelle region, injuring him seriously. Police said the bomb appeared to have been attached to his car. A second car bomb went off outside the Oriental hotel, situated in the northern Mogadishu district of Shibis and home to several Somali government officials. Eyewitness Yusuf Abdukadir said he saw the dead body of a security guard outside the hotel after the blast, and said a number of cars were also destroyed. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, although Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab rebels frequently strike in the heart of Mogadishu and target hotels that house government officials.

Headline: Yemen federation deal gives autonomy, not independence, to south
Yemen’s president on Monday formally approved turning the country into a federal state, giving the south more autonomy and completing a milestone in his planned transition to democracy. But the move was immediately rejected by some southerners who insist on a separate state, raising fears the impoverished country may face further instability on top of the challenges it already has from Islamist militants and a northern rebellion. Demands by southern separatists to restore the state that merged with North Yemen in 1990 had delayed an agreement on broad reforms ahead of general elections. Under the new system approved by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Yemen will be split into six regions. The former South Yemen will be divided into two regions, Aden and Hadramout, according to state news agency Saba, and the more populous former North Yemen into four regions. Under a U.S.-backed power transfer deal that forced former President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down in 2012, Hadi is overseeing reforms for an interim period.

Headline: Bosnians ratchet up demands on sixth day of protests
Bosnians have continued their anti-government protests for the fourth consecutive day, calling for the resignation of the government and release of the detainees. Hundreds of people held fresh demonstrations in the capital Sarajevo on Sunday and accused the police of using brute force against protesters. The protesters were also angry with the government’s inability to address the country’s 44 percent unemployment rate and rampant corruption. The Sunday’s protest focused on Sarajevo’s central police station, where dozens of anti-government protesters are being held. People have accused police of mistreating the detained protesters. Addressing the crowd in front of the police building, the head of the local police station, Mirsad Sukic, claimed that no mistreatment had taken place against some 44 protesters, who were arrested earlier. All of them except 10 people have been released.

Headline: EU must be ready to impose sanctions on Ukraine: Czech minister
Ukraine’s anti-terrorism units have been placed on high alert amid threats against key infrastructure sites, including airports and nuclear plants. Ukraine’s SBU counterintelligence agency made the announcement on Sunday, saying the measures were applicable to all state buildings and were “primarily preventative” and aimed at ensuring public safety. The agency said authorities had received “anonymous threats of bomb attacks” against various sites, including strategic transport hubs and power stations. In addition, there had been “calls to occupy sites sheltering large stocks of weapons” and the “blockading of government buildings.” Nevertheless, no specific reference was made by the Ukrainian authorities to the anti-government protests in the country.
