WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– For three-fourths of the world's population, practicing one's religion is becoming more difficult due to government restrictions and public hostilities, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

"Among the world's 25 most populous countries — which account for about 75 percent of the world's population — restriction on religions substantially increased in eight countries and did not substantially decrease in any," according to the Forum.

The Forum found a 32 percent increase in restrictions and hostilities from 2006-09 in all 198 of the world's nations with a 12 percent increase in only restrictions in 23 nations.

Worldwide, only 1 percent of the world's population live where hostilities had decreased.

Although many governments have religious freedoms in their constitutions, not all provide for these protections: "religious liberty language" can be found in the constitutions of all 198 countries and in the laws of 143 countries, but more than half of these same countries carry contradictions in their own constitutions and laws.

The Forum study noted that even in countries with religious freedom laws, "not all governments fully respect the religious rights written into their laws".

Nigeria— (TCSM) An early morning attack on a Christian church service in northern Nigeria left at least 16 people dead. The attack follows a string of violent incidents against Christians in the predominantly Muslim north.

Anti-Bullying Speaker Curses Christian Teens

As many as 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy assed.” The speaker was Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” project, an anti-bullying campaign that has reached more than 40 million viewers with contributors ranging from President Obama to Hollywood stars. Savage also writes a sex advice column called “Savage Love.” 

Savage, and his husband, were also guests at the White House for President Obama’s 2011 LGBT Pride Month reception. He was also invited to a White House anti-bullying conference.  Savage was supposed to be delivering a speech about anti-bullying at the National High School Journalism Conference sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. But it turned into an episode of Christian-bashing. Rick Tuttle, the journalism advisor for Sutter Union High School in California, was among several thousand people in the audience. Does the Bible still matter in 2012?

The research, commissioned by American Bible Society and conducted by Barna Research, found that the majority of Americans (69%) believe the Bible provides answers on how to live a meaningful life. But while 79% believe they are knowledgeable about the Bible, 54% were unable to correctly identify the first five books of the Bible. Peru examines deaths of more than 500 pelicans

The government of Peru is investigating the deaths of more than 500 pelicans along a 70km (40-mile) stretch of the country's northern coast. Officials say most appeared to have died on shore over the past few days.
