Syrian Foreign Minister Muallem: We Welcome Air Strikes on ISIS, Ground Operation Needed
“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”
Headline: IDF shoots down Syrian fighter plane infiltrating Israeli territory
Headline: U.S. briefed Israel of intention to attack jihadi targets in Syria
The Israel Defense Forces’ aerial defense system on Tuesday fired a Patriot missile and shot down a Syrian Sukhoi 24 fighter jet that infiltrated Israeli territory. The jet was toppled over the Syrian side of the Quneitra border, after it had flown 800 meters west of the border into Israel and turned around. The decision to down the jet was made after 1:20 minutes of flight; when the Patriot hit the plane, the Syrian pilots had already turned around and flown back into their territory. The two pilots had apparently managed to operate their ejection seats within that timeframe, as they were captured in footage released by the Syrian Revolution Coordinators Union parachuting to the ground. This is the first time since the Lebanon War in the 1980s that the IAF has toppled a Syrian aircraft. The jet apparently took off from a base in eastern Syria and was toppled after it had reached an altitude of 10,000-14,000 feet. At that height, the plane was capable of launching attacks on the Syrian rebel forces near the Israeli border. Although Israel did not see any threat of attack on its own territory from that plane, its policy stipulates that any plane that breaches its territorial authority must be downed to avoid security risk. The defense establishment has not yet confirmed whether the jet infiltrated Israeli territory purposefully or errantly. Syria confirmed late Tuesday morning that Israel had shot down one of its war planes, in what it described as an act of aggression.

Headline: Date Set for Resumption of Israel-Gaza Ceasefire Talks
Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in Cairo on Tuesday agreed to schedule new talks on a durable Gaza ceasefire for the last week of October, a Hamas official said. A delay in the talks after their first Egypt-mediated negotiations since the end last month of a devastating 50-day war in Gaza had been expected, because of upcoming Jewish and Muslim holidays. The Palestinian delegation, which includes rival factions Hamas and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah, will remain in Cairo this week to discuss resolving their own disputes. “We finished the indirect negotiations… it was agreed to resume them in the last week of October,” wrote senior Hamas negotiator Ezzat al-Rishq on his Facebook page. The Israeli negotiators left Cairo after Tuesday’s talks, an official at Cairo airport said. The talks were temporarily halted Tuesday as the Hamas team briefly walked out after Israeli security forces killed two Hamas terrorists who kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teens back in June.

Arab rioters attack IDF in Hevron, as Hamas blames PA and PA blames Israel for death of Hamas kidnappers. The two Hamas terrorists who murdered Israeli teens Naftali Frenkel, Eyal Yifrah and Gilad Sha’ar hy”d on June 12 and were shot dead in an exchange of fire with IDF forces in Hevron on Tuesday have been buried, in a funeral that quickly turned into a Hamas rally. The terrorists, Marwan Kawasmeh and Amar Abu-Eisha, were laid to rest with some 3,000 local Arabs in attendance, with many waving flags of the terror organization Hamas of which the two were members of, reports AFP. Following the death of the two terrorists, dozens of local Arab rioters hurled rocks at IDF soldiers, and afterwards a general strike was held throughout the city with ongoing attacks by Arab rioters on the IDF. Hamas temporarily pulled out of the Cairo talks after learning about the death of the two Hamas murderers, pausing talks for two hours before returning. The terror group has since praised them as “martyrs.” Hamas also reportedly has accused the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces for cooperating with the IDF in the crackdown on the murderers, claiming Israel couldn’t have succeeded without the PA’s help. Meanwhile PA security chief Adnan al-Damiri accused Israel of “carrying out operations to kill and destroy houses.”

Headline: Abbas to submit IDF withdrawal resolution to UN
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas Abbas said Tuesday that he will submit a resolution to the UN Security Council on Thursday seeking a three-year timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the West Bank. The resolution will be handed in immediately after Abbas speaks at the UN General Assembly, he told reporters. Abbas, who meets with US Secretary of State John Kerry later Tuesday, expressed little optimism the resolution would survive a Security Council vote. The United States will almost certainly veto such a measure, having said the only resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is through direct negotiations between the two sides. A day earlier, Abbas said a UN rejection of the resolution would prompt him to seek membership in international institutions and agencies. Aides said that would include the International Criminal Court, opening the door to war crimes charges against Israel for its military actions in Gaza.

A group of armed men have attacked a Lebanese army post in the northern city of Tripoli, killing one soldier. The Lebanese army issued a statement on Tuesday saying two soldiers were also injured during clashes that erupted between the armed men and Lebanese troops in the Badawi neighborhood of the city. Over the past months, Lebanon’s second largest city, Tripoli, has been rocked by turmoil due to the conflict between supporters and opponents of the government of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. The conflict in Syria has pitted pro-Assad residents of Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen neighborhood against people of Bab al-Tabbaneh who support foreign-backed militants operating against the government in Syria.

Headline: Nusra: Rocket crashed into abducted troop hide-out
A rocket attack reportedly crashed into the location where captives from Lebanon’s military and security forces captured by Nusra Front militants last month are being held. A targeted rocket attack crashed into the hide-out the Nusra Front claimed on an affiliated Twitter page Tuesday. The militant group also attached a picture of the alleged rocket. A source acquainted with the militants confirmed the rocket attack and highlighted that none of the Army hostages were killed. The militants however were injured as a result of the rocket crash, the source said. So far, the Nusra Front has not released any information concerning the safety of the hostages. “The troop-targeting incident has been registered” said Nusra, adding that “the rocket’s serial number would be placed in the hands of the soldier’s families.” “The families can then strive to find out who wants to kill their sons,” the militant group added. According to the source, Syrian war planes targeted the area where Nusra is keeping its captives.

Syria Headline: Syria backs U.S.-led air strikes on jihadists, while allies Iran, Russia protest
Syria Headline: Syria says US informed it about strikes on ISIL
Syria appeared Tuesday to be trying to position itself on the side of the international coalition as the opening salvo hit in what U.S. President Barack Obama has warned will be a lengthy military campaign near the Syria-Iraq border. In contrast, Syria’s allies Iran and Russia condemned the strikes. Damascus appeared to want to show it was not being left out. The government vowed in a statement to continue fighting the extremist factions across Syria, and said it will not stop coordination “with countries that were harmed by the group, first and foremost Iraq.” “The Syrian Arab Republic says it stands with any international effort to fight terrorism, no matter what a group is called — whether Daesh or Nusra Front or something else,” it said, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group. “We will not hesitate to take further actions to target and kill terrorists who are trying to attack our country,” said Mohammad al-Momani, a government spokesman. Syria says the US had informed Damascus before carrying out airstrikes against the Takfiri ISIL militants’ positions inside the Arab country. According to Syrian state media, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement released early on Tuesday that Washington informed Syria’s permanent envoy to the United Nations that strikes would be launched against the ISIL terrorists in the province of Raqqa. In the past weeks, Syrian officials insisted that any international strikes against the extremists on its soil must be coordinated with Damascus or else they would be considered an act of aggression against Syria and a breach of its sovereignty. The United States has ruled out any coordination with Assad’s government.
****Notification does not mean ‘coordination’
Syria’s two key allies, Iran and Russia, condemned the strikes.
Iran’s President Hassan Rohani said Tuesday the U.S.-led coalition’s airstrikes in Syria are illegal because they were not approved by or coordinated with Syria’s government. Russia, meanwhile, warned that the “unilateral” U.S. airstrikes are destabilizing the region and urged Washington to secure either Damascus’ consent or UN Security Council support. Rohani stressed that Iran condemns the Islamic State group — although he did not single them out by that name and referred to only as “terrorists” — for trampling on human rights and torturing and killing civilians. Meeting with editors on the first day of the United Nations General Assembly, he said Iran stands ready to help fight terrorism. But Rohani said the U.S. policy is confused because it simultaneously opposes the militants while also trying to undermine the government of Syria’s President Bashar Assad. The arming of one group of rebels to fight against the Islamic State group while at the same time encouraging the same rebels to bring down the Assad government is a policy that is “clearly nebulous and ambiguous at best,” he said, adding, “I can assure you this will not succeed in the end.”

Syria Headline: US strikes target Al Qaeda veterans in Syria plotting ‘imminent attack’
U.S. officials say airstrikes in Syria on Monday night were aimed in part at disrupting an “imminent attack” by Al Qaeda-tied fighters on either the United States or Europe, in the strongest evidence yet of the growing threat posed by the group. The strikes against the so-called Khorasan Group, conducted only by the U.S., were separate from the strikes against the Islamic State in which Arab allies participated. U.S. Central Command said eight strikes were launched against the group’s training camps, command-and-control facilities and other sites in the area west of Aleppo.

Syria’s Western-backed National Coalition opposition group welcomed air strikes by the United States and Gulf Arab allies on Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) strongholds in Syria on Tuesday, saying they would strengthen its struggle against President Bashar al-Assad. “This will make us stronger in the fight against Assad… The campaign should continue until the Islamic State is completely eradicated from Syrian lands,” Monzer Akbik, special envoy to the president of the coalition, told Reuters. Meanwhile the Hazm Movement-a Syrian rebel group that has reportedly received weapons from the United States- criticized air strikes Tuesday by a U.S.-led coalition, saying the strikes would undermine the armed opposition and benefit President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. They described the strikes as “an attack on national sovereignty that undermines the Syrian revolution”. “The sole beneficiary of this foreign interference in Syria is the Assad regime, especially in the absence of any real strategy to topple him,” the group said.

Kurdish Headline: Imprisoned Kurdish rebel leader calls for mass mobilization of Kurds against IS
The imprisoned leader of a Kurdish rebel group fighting Turkey has called for a mass mobilization of all Kurds against the Islamic State militant group which is fighting Kurdish forces in Syria. In a message relayed through his lawyer late Monday, Abdullah Ocalan said: “I call on all Kurdish people to start an all-out resistance against this high-intensity war.” “Not only the people of Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) but also all people in the north (Turkey) and other parts of Kurdistan should act accordingly,” lawyer Mazlum Dinc quoted Ocalan as saying. Ocalan, who is serving a life sentence on a prison island near Istanbul, leads the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which has long fought Turkey for autonomy. PKK is affiliated with a Kurdish party in Syria whose armed wing is fighting the Islamic State group in northern Syria. Ocalan also accused Turkey of stalling peace negotiations aimed at ending a three-decade-long conflict, while Murat Karayilan, a PKK commander based in northern Iraq, accused Turkey of collaborating with the Islamic militants and declared the peace process to be dead, the pro-Kurdish news website Firat News said.

Kurdish Headline: US, Iran woo rival Kurdish factions in battle against IS
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) capital, Erbil, the terrain is flat and featureless, where a few fields and clutches of trees break up the vast, mostly arid expanse around Makhmour. Though the peshmerga forces manning the two fronts both answer to the KRG, they remain closely tied to the rival parties from which they sprung: the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the north and west, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in the south and east. There are signs that the two also receive support from different backers, influenced by longstanding ties and geographical proximity. US airstrikes have focused on areas farther to the north and west, as have the latest French airstrikes on the northern town of Zumar, and are thus aiding mainly KDP operations. Al-Monitor was told by one of those on the PUK-linked Khanaquin peshmerga base, who spoke on condition of anonymity, that Iranian forces were in the area in small numbers. He said, however, “It’s only normal. When we had to escape from Iraq and the Baath regime, they gave us refuge. Even if we didn’t want them here it would be difficult to say no. But we need them.” However, the officer said, “We aren’t allowed to speak to them, and certainly not show them to you.”

Moscow will curtail Ukraine’s access to vital Russian markets if Kiev implements any part of a trade agreement with the European Union, President Vladimir Putin warned in a letter, toughening his stance on a deal at the center of East-West tensions. In a letter to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, seen by Reuters on Tuesday, Putin warned that even changing national legislation to prepare for the EU-Ukraine trade deal, known as the association agreement, would trigger an immediate response from Moscow. “We still believe that only systemic adjustments of the Association Agreement, which take into account the full range of risks to Russian-Ukranian economic ties and to the whole Russian economy, will allow to retain existing trade and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and Ukraine,” Putin wrote in the letter, which is dated Sept. 17. Putin did not go into detail about possible retaliation, but Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said last week he had signed an order to curb Ukrainian exporters’ access to Russia. Headline: Sudan accuses Egypt of escalating border dispute
Sudan has accused Egypt of escalating the dispute over the border town of Halayeb after Cairo announced its appointment of a new administrator for the area. The Egyptian minister of Local Development Adil Habeeb appointed a chairman for the local council in Halayeb amidst strong opposition from the Sudanese parliament. Speaking in Khartoum on Tuesday Sudanese MP Malik Hussein who heads the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense on Tuesday described Egypt’s move as provocative. The decision to appoint a chairman for the local council of the area is unacceptable. Halayeb is an integral part of Sudanese territory Hussein declared. He suggested that the dispute be resolved through international laws given that his country remains keen to maintain ties with Egypt. But Sudan has no wish to abandon Halayebâ he warned. According to Hussein the Sudanese government will undertake the necessary measures to respond to the Egyptian move.

Headline: Scores Killed in South Sudan Fighting as Peace Talks Resume
Peace talks for South Sudan resumed Monday in Ethiopia, as a spokesman for the South Sudan army said nearly 180 troops from both sides in the nine-month conflict were killed in new clashes in Upper Nile state. In remarks to open the peace talks, which are being held in Bahir Dar, around 550 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, the chief mediator for the regional bloc leading the talks, Ethiopian diplomat Seyoum Mesfin, told delegates from the government and opposition sides that they will not resolve the conflict through violence. “If you are committed to peace, you will not find it through the barrel of the gun, but around this table,” Seyoum said. The talks are expected to focus on mapping out the details of a transitional government of national unity for South Sudan and drafting a permanent constitution, among other issues. The two sides agreed last month to a 45-day deadline to set up a transitional government. That deadline would take them into the beginning of October.

Headline: Libya asks chemical weapons watchdog to remove stockpile – sources
Headline: International Community Calls for Cease-Fire in Libya
Libya has asked the global chemical weapons watchdog to draw up plans to ship a stockpile of 850 tonnes of chemicals overseas due to deteriorating security, sources have told Reuters. Diplomats and officials said that transporting the toxins abroad for destruction, as was recently done in Syria, is the most viable option to keep them out of the hands of battling militant groups. Since the removal of Muammar Gaddafi three years ago, the country has descended into anarchy, with rival militias and hardline Islamic groups battling for political control and vast oil reserves. Facilities to destroy the chemical weapons were set up and Libyans were trained to use the equipment, but fighting threatens stability and has made it impossible to safely conduct their work. Experts at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which won the Nobel Peace prize this year, are “working on something right now,” one source told Reuters. The technical details still need to be worked out and the OPCW on Tuesday declined to comment.

Headline: Algeria: ISIS-Linked Group Threatens to Kill French Hostage
An Algerian Islamist terrorist group linked to the “Islamic State” (also known as IS or ISIS) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of a French citizen, and threatened to execute him if their demands are not met. The “Soldiers of the Caliphate” released a video in which they announced they would execute 55-year-old Hervé Gourdel within 24 hours if France did not end its involvement in the ongoing US-led military intervention against IS. Sitting in between two masked, armed men, Gourdel addressed President Francois Hollande directly: “This armed group has asked me to demand that you do not intervene in Iraq. They are holding me hostage. I beg you, Monsieur Président, to do all in your power to get me out of here.” The French government has confirmed the authenticity of the video. “Everything is being done to find our compatriot. All our services are being mobilized to that end, and no theory is ruled out. We are in constant contact with the Algerian authorities, who are cooperating and supporting our inquiry,” the French foreign ministry said in a statement.

Headline: Morocco Watches Its Borders as Jihadists Announced Allegiance to ISIS in Algeria
The Royal Gendarmerie has strengthened its positions in several border points south of the kingdom, especially in the provinces of Smara, Laayoune and Dakhla. According to the Moroccan daily Al Massae, the General Command of the Royal Gendarmerie deployed reinforcements in the southern provinces aiming to increase the security at the kingdom’s borders with Algeria, after a jihadist group announced its allegiance to ISIS in Algeria. The same source added that in addition to these measures, the Moroccan authorities are regularly carrying helicopter patrols along the borders to prevent any jihadists’ attempt from creeping into the Moroccan territories. In response to the growing terrorist threats from the Sahel region, Morocco built 70-kilometer long fence equipped with electronic sensors to protect its territory against terrorist threats. The Algerian group “Jund al-Khilafa”, called Soldiers of the Caliphate, which pledges allegiance to the jihadist organization of the Islamic State (IS), has kidnapped a French citizen on Sunday in Tizi Ouzou, Algeria, and threatened to execute him unless Paris halts its air attacks in Iraq against ISIS.

Headline: Turkey may offer ‘military help’ to fight against IS
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday welcomed US-led air strikes against Islamic State (IS) jihadists in Syria, saying Ankara could provide military or logistical support for the campaign. “I look at it (the air strikes) in a positive way. It would be wrong if they stopped. This roadmap should be continued,” he told Turkish reporters in New York in comments broadcast by Turkish television. Asked how Turkey would contribute to the operation, Erdogan said: “We will take whatever steps necessary to combat terrorism.” “This involves all kinds of support, including military and political. It involves political or logistic support,” said Erdogan, who is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. Turkey had been criticised for doing little to fight the rise of IS militants who have seized swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria dangerously close to its own borders. However Ankara always said its priority was to ensure the security of 46 Turks held hostage by IS militants after being abducted from Mosul in Iraq. The hostages were freed over the weekend, leading to building expectations in Washington that Turkey could switch its stance and become a key ally in the campaign against the militants. Erdogan did not give details of the kind of military and logistical support Ankara could provide.

Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. Luke 21:9: wars & commotions; the Greek word here is Akatastasia, meaning instability, a state of disorder, disturbance, confusion (revolutions) Matthew 24:7: the Greek word for nation is Ethnos & refers to various ethnic groups fighting among themselves, where the next sentence in the verse refers to kingdoms (basileiva) fighting one another (not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom)
Headline: Sheriff calls for U.S. troops on Rio Grande
Another border-state sheriff is voicing his frustrations with the Obama administration’s failure to secure the border, saying the lack of action has overwhelmed his county with criminals, drug-cartel members and possible terrorists. Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County, Arizona, unloaded on Obama in a video interview last week, accusing the president and Homeland Security chief Jeh Johnson of violating their oaths of office. Babeu, a former Army officer who served in Iraq, says the U.S stations more than 28,000 troops to guard South Korea and secure its border against any penetration from North Korea, yet it shows no commitment to secure its own border with Mexico. “We’ve been there (in Korea) for 50-plus years,” he said. “We do this for countries all over the world. When are we going to put America first?” Babeu continued, “ISIS is beheading Americans and they’re saying, ‘We’re coming for you.’ The wolf is at the door. When are we going to put our country, America, first? What else do we need to know?” He said Obama should immediately deploy U.S. troops along the entire southern border with Mexico. This is what it would take to help local law enforcement, which is “overwhelmed,” he said.

Headline: Taliban vows to hit PML-N, claims attack on senior army officer
A suicide bomber blew up his car near a vehicle carrying a senior military officer in north-western Pakistan on Tuesday, killing three people and wounding over a dozen, officials said. Brigadier Khalid Javed escaped unhurt in the bombing targeting him in Peshawar city, capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani said. The bomber tried to ram his car loaded with explosives into the military vehicle carrying the brigadier but exploded a few yards away, senior police official Najib-ur-Rehman said. A paramilitary soldier and a woman were among the dead, said doctor Jameel Shah at the city’s Lady Reading Hospital where 13 injured people were also being treated. The Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on Tuesday that targeted a convoy of the Frontier Corps (FC) in Peshawar carrying a high-ranking military official. A spokesman for Mullah Fazlullah-led militant group Shahidullah Shahid said that the attack on the security forces convoy was a reaction to the Zarb-e-Azb military operation against the militants in the North Waziristan tribal region. Confirming that the attack was meant to target Brigadier Javed, the Taliban spokesman vowed to launch attacks on members of the Pakistan Muslim League-N government.

Headline: Houthi rebels take near-total control of Sanaa
Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi says the sweep by Shiite rebels over the capital is part of a “foreign plot,” implicltly blaming Iran, which he has accused of backing the group. Hadi’s Tuesday remarks came days after the Shiite rebels known as Hawthis swept through the capital after weeklong battles, dealing a heavy blow to Sunni Islamists. A United Nations-brokered peace deal was signed Sunday, making concessions to the Hawthis, who deployed fighters in the streets, set up checkpoints and seized weapons after overrunning their opponents barracks. “The chapters of the foreign plot are not complete yet,” Hadi told a gathering of lawmakers. Earlier, Hadi accused Hawthis of receiving Iranian support. Iran in the past has denied backing the rebels.

Headline: Gold Rebounds From Eight-Month Low Amid Syria Airstrikes
Gold advanced from an eight-month low after airstrikes in Syria boosted demand for the metal as a haven. The U.S. and its Arab allies launched a barrage of airstrikes against Islamic State positions in Syria. Sales of gold coins by the U.S. Mint reached 43,200 ounces so far in September, heading for the best month since June and topping August’s total by 73 percent. Bullion has declined 7.6 percent this quarter. “Gold is getting some temporary support from the bombs,” Frank Lesh, a trader at FuturePath Trading LLC in Chicago, said in a telephone interview. “Physical demand is expected to rise after the big drop in the past few weeks.” Gold futures for December delivery added 0.3 percent to settle at $1,222 an ounce at 1:37 p.m. on the Comex in New York. Headline: CDC report predicts as many as 1.4 million cases of Ebola by January
Headline: Ebola Death Rate 70 Percent, WHO Says in Dire New Forecast
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report Tuesday predicting as many as 550,000 to 1.4 million cases of the Ebola virus in Liberia and Sierra Leone alone, by the end of January. The CDC calculations are based, in part, on assumptions that cases have been dramatically underreported. Other projections haven’t made the same kind of attempt to quantify illnesses that may have been missed in official counts. CDC scientists conclude there may be as many as 21,000 reported and unreported cases in just those two countries as soon as the end of this month. “The model shows — and I don’t think this has been shown by other modeling tools out there — that a surge now can break the back of the epidemic. It also shows that there are severe costs of delay,” CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden said in a press conference Tuesday.
