UN envoy says violence continues in West Bank
UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov on Monday said violence has continued in the West Bank, as seven Palestinians, including one child, were recently killed by Israeli Security Forces (ISF) and another 206 were injured in various incidents. And 16 Israeli security personnel and seven civilians were injured by Palestinians, Mladenov said while briefing the Security Council at a meeting on the Middle East, including the Palestinian question. “On Feb. 5, a Palestinian teenager was killed by ISF after he reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail during clashes in Hebron,” he said. “The following day, a Palestinian man was shot during clashes in Jenin, while in a separate incident, a Palestinian Authority policeman died after reportedly being hit by a live bullet while he was inside a police station.” Mladenov reiterated that violence against civilians, and particularly against children, is unacceptable, and must be condemned by all.

Russia, Turkey plan new round of talks on Idlib, Syria
Russia and Turkey are preparing for a new round of talks on Idlib, the de-escalation zone in Syria, Russia’s foreign minister said on Monday. “Now we are preparing another series of consultations, which, we hope, will lead us to an agreement on how to ensure that this is really a de-escalation zone and that the terrorists do not rule there,” Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Moscow. “I hope that the ongoing contacts between our military and the Turkish military, with the participation of diplomats and security services, will end positively, and we will be able to make sure that terrorists do not take over this part of Syria, as, in fact, they should not take over anywhere else,” he said. Syria has been mired in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests.
