Headline: Gaza explosions target officials’ cars
Headline: ISIS blamed for exploding seven Hamas, Islamic Jihad cars in Gaza
A series of explosions on Sunday targeted cars belonging to officials in Gaza, including those from the ruling Hamas militant group. Four blasts hit vehicles in Gaza City just after 06:00 (03:00 GMT). Two people suffered minor injuries. News agencies said the five cars belonged to members of Hamas and the rival Islamic Jihad militant group. Supporters of the so-called Islamic State group have threatened Hamas’ leadership in Gaza in recent weeks. The Jerusalem Post quoted one Hamas commander, Abu Hamar, as saying IS was to blame for Sunday’s explosions. He called for Hamas to respond. A video posted online last month by IS supporters in Syria made direct threats against what they called “the tyrants of Hamas” and said they would take over Gaza. In Gaza, some Salafist groups – who adhere to a strict lifestyle based on that of the earliest followers of Islam – have started to support IS. They have been blamed by Hamas for a series of explosions in the area. Dozens of Salafists have been arrested in recent weeks.

Headline: Hamas: Iran Incited Against Us
Headline: ANALYSIS: Why did Hamas visit Saudi Arabia?
Hamas has strongly denied a Fars news agency report which claimed that leader Khaled Meshaal would send hundreds of Hamas “military wing” fighters to help in the war against the Shi’ite Houthis in Yemen. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said that this report is untrue, since the Saudi leadership did not present the idea. He said the report was intended to harm Meshaal’s visit to Saudi Arabia and to incite against Hamas. Iran was once a stronger supporter of Hamas, but the two have been at odds over the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. As a result of Hamas’ refusal to support Assad in the uprising, an angry Iran reportedly stopped supplying the terror group with weapons. Nevertheless, the two sides have been getting closer over the past year. The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani, recently boasted that Iran provided Hamas with the technology it has used to rain down rockets on Israel from Gaza, and Hamas later thanked Iran for providing the group with the rockets. The Al-Hayat newspaper revealed several months ago that Hamas leader-in-exile Khaled Meshaal met with Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Solemeini, in Turkey, just days after the end of Operation Protective Edge in Gaza over the summer. That relationship may be at risk, however, as Hamas and Saudi Arabia reunite to battle Islamic State (ISIS) within their borders – and as Iran and Saudi Arabia continue to battle over a proxy war in Yemen. A Saudi Arabian-led alliance began launching airstrikes on the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels on March 26 of this year.

Headline: Israel to Ashton: Iranian forces mustn’t be allowed to dump ISIS on Israeli Golan border
Although Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu again appealed to US Congress not to approve the “dream deal” won by Iran, this deal was not his main business with US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter whom he was due to meet Monday, July 20. Carter himself told reporters that the two countries could “agree to disagree.” Israel’s overriding concern at this time, debkafile’s military sources report, is about Tehran’s possible endgame in fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, i.e. driving ISIS fighters to confront Israeli forces on the Golan and also reach the Jordanian border. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are in command of the “Popular Mobilization Forces,” a collection of pro-Iranian Shiite militias put together to combat ISIS in Iraq. Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon will ask Carter if the US has any control over the Iranian command centers in Iraq and Syria, and is in a position to stop Tehran harnessing Hizballah and Syrian troops to help those militias remove the threat ISIS poses to their allies in Damascus and Baghdad by diverting them to Israel and Jordan. This peril first raised its head when, straight after the six powers signed the Vienna nuclear deal with Iran on July 14, US security officials, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif declared that the next move was to build a broad coalition for fighting ISIS. Netanyahu raised this concern with UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, when he arrived in Jerusalem on July 16, two days after the Vienna deal was concluded. Although the Secretary’s formal mission was to elucidate the accord to Israel’s leaders, his real purpose was to hand him a letter from British Prime Minister David Cameron. In this letter, Cameron explained that his decision to extend RAF bombing missions from Iraq to Syria (depending on parliament’s approval in September) had nothing to do with Washington’s policies, but was solely motivated by the Islamist threat hanging over British national security. Britain, he said, was not acting in support of the Syrian-Iranian-Hizballah lineup against the Islamist group; nor was it part of the Obama administration’s turnabout in favor of supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Headline: Senior defense source: IDF preparing for possible covert Iranian nuclear production
Headline: Why Israel Is Going To Bomb Iran
The IDF is seeking government commitment to a multi-year defense spending plan – a commitment that has been absent for the past several years – as it prepares to deal with the possibility of a covert Iranian attempt to break through to nuclear weapons production, a senior defense source said on Sunday. The source said the IDF needs to assume that its most severe “reference scenarios” regarding Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and ISIS will come true, in order to correctly use the coming years to reshape the military, improve training, and make cost cutting reforms that include the shedding of 100,000 reservists and 5000 career soldiers. Other proposed changes include military restructuring to create specialized war fighting and border security divisions that do not overlap one another.

Headline: Israel halts medical treatment for members of Syria’s Nusra Front
A senior Israel Defense Forces officer revealed Monday that Israel has stopped treating members of an extremist Syrian rebel group wounded in that country’s ongoing civil war. The policy change concerning the Al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front was made about six weeks ago. According to the officer, a number of injured Nusra Front fighters had received medical treatment in Israel. The officer described those injured as having “infiltrated” into Israel to receive the treatment. However, the army’s background checks on the injured had not been thorough, he admitted. According to the officer, since the policy change the army has been checking the identity of everyone entering Israel for medical treatment. The change took place a month after Israeli Druze ambushed wounded Syrian rebels being transported in IDF ambulances, killing one of the men. Five members of the Druze community were later arrested on suspicion of murder. The officer responded to complaints voiced by some members of the Druze community in Israel that security forces are assisting the Al-Nusra Front, which executed over 20 Druze in a Syrian village last June.

Headline: The fight for Zabadani – How long can Hezbollah’s resources withstand the war effort in Syria?
“Who said Zabadani fell to the regime and Hezbollah forces? They are not able to breach its defenses; they’re just fighting in its suburbs!” The Syrian activist, who spoke to NOW on condition of anonymity for security reasons, says that he was in touch with some of the rebels entrenched in Zabadani. “The people in Zabadani want nothing but to be free, and the rebels are still fighting for it,” he insisted. The battle of Zabadani, a former resort on the highway that links Beirut to Damascus 12 kilometers away of the Masnaa border crossing, started on 4 July. Hezbollah forces and Syrian Army troops launched an offensive against an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 rebels affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra and units of Ahrar al-Sham as well as unaffiliated locals. Zabadani is, so far, the most difficult battle of the second Qalamoun offensive, which began in May. Hezbollah quickly took Tallet Moussa, the highest peak of the Qalamoun Mountains. The first phase was taking territory east of Tfeil promontory, including Aasal al-Ward, Jobeh, and Ras al-Maara, cutting off northern rebels from those in Zabadani to the south. Then the fight went north, to Tallet Moussa. Rebels were thus entrenched between Wadi Khayl and Ras Baalbek, where the Lebanese Army also kept them at bay. “Hezbollah wants Qalamoun under its control at any price,” Lebanese commentator Ali al-Amine told NOW. He explained that the region is of vital importance for Damascus because it would link Damascus to Homs and the coast. It is also very important for Hezbollah because it was a strategic point on its supply line even before the Syrian uprising. By losing Zabadani, the rebels would lose their link with the suburbs of Damascus and would not be able to receive supplies and reinforcements.

Headline: Nusra offers exchange of Lebanese hostages with Baghdadi’s former wife
Nusra Front, al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate, has offered to release three Lebanese soldiers in exchange for a former wife of the leader of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) and four other female prisoners held in Lebanon. Nusra Front hold sixteen Lebanese soldiers and policemen hostage. The group’s offer of exchanging three Lebanese hostages with five imprisoned women came in a statement issued by Nusra and aired by Lebanese MTV. “If five of our sisters leave prison… we will hand over three soldiers in exchange,” said Abu Malek al-Shami, emir of Nusra in Syria’s Qalamoun, near the Lebanese border. Among the five hostages named was Saja al-Dulaimi, former wife of ISIS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was arrested in Lebanon last December. Al-Shami pointed out that the rest of the Lebanese hostages “will be released when displaced Syrian people return safely to their homes”, adding that the Lebanese people have to take responsibility for actions of Hezbollah militia which supports Assad army against rebel forces. Speaking to ARA News, activist Mohammed Dawoud, commented: “al-Nusra Front and ISIS group are apparent partners, that’s why they called for the release of Baghdadi’s former wife.”

Headline: Saudi Prince Threatens ‘Military Action Without American Support’ Against Iran
In the first public criticism of the P5+Iran deal by a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family, Prince Bandar bin Sultan told Lebanon’s Daily Star the deal would allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb and would “wreak havoc in the region.” Covered in The Times of London, the prince also told Daily Star, “Saudi Arabia and the Gulf powers are prepared to take military action without American support after the Iran nuclear deal” The Prince also said that regional powers have lost faith in America: “People in my region now are relying on God’s will, and consolidating their local capabilities and analysis with everybody else except our oldest and most powerful ally” The prince was less polite in an op-ed he wrote for the London-based Arabic news Web site Elaph. He compared the Iran nuclear deal made by Obama to the North Korean nuclear deal Bill Clinton made. Bandar suggested that they were both bad deals but Clinton made a bad deal with the best of intentions thinking it was a good deal. Obama on the other hand knew he was making a lousy deal and made it anyway.

Headline: Saudi Arabia says it stopped Islamic State attacks; 400 held
Saudi Arabia said Saturday it broke up planned Islamic State attacks in the kingdom, announcing it has arrested over 400 people in its raids. In a statement Saturday carried on the official state news agency, the Interior Ministry also accused those arrested over the “past few weeks” of conducting several attacks, including an Islamic State-claimed suicide bomb in May that killed 21 people in the village of al-Qudeeh, in the oil-rich eastern Qatif region. It was the deadliest militant assault in the kingdom in more than a decade. It also blamed them for the November shooting and killing of eight worshippers in the eastern Saudi Arabian village of al-Ahsa. The statement said the arrested men were also behind another attack in late May, when a suicide bomber disguised as a woman blew himself up in the parking lot of a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers, killing four people.

Headline: Dozens killed in North Sinai unrest
Egypt’s military has confirmed 59 militants and seven soldiers have been killed in fighting in North Sinai, including three soldiers in a checkpoint rocket attack. It said a total of seven soldiers were killed on Saturday, after previously saying three died in a checkpoint rocket attack which was claimed by IS. The statement also said troops killed 59 militants. ‘The men of the armed forces backed by air support targeted several terrorist dens on Saturday,’ the statement said, listing 14 sites where operations took place. The military is battling militants loyal to the jihadist Islamic State group (IS) in North Sinai where an Islamist insurgency has grown over the past two years. On Saturday, it had said 20 militants were killed in an assault on a jihadist hide-out, and posted on Facebook a video of air strikes on a building and two trucks. The army also said four militants were captured and troops were still counting ‘terrorists killed in the air campaign’.

Syria Headline: Kurds claim ISIS used chemical weapons in Syria
ISIS had used poison gas in attacks in late June in northeastern Syria, a Syrian Kurdish militia said on Saturday. The YPG militia said poison gas had been used in attacks on June 28 and June 29 against YPG-held areas in the northeastern province of Hasaka, Reuters news agency reported citing Redur Xelil, the YPG spokesman. Xelil said the type of chemical used had not been accurately determined. None of the YPG fighters exposed to the gas had died because they were quickly taken to hospital, he said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based group that reports on the war using an activist network on the ground, said it had also documented the use of poison gas by ISIS in northeastern Syria on June 28. On Friday, ISIS claimed a deadly car bomb blast in an Iraqi town on Friday, killing dozens – including children – celebrating the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the militants said in a statement.

Syria Headline: Syrian barrel bombs hit ISIS in Hasakah
On Sunday, Syrian regime’s helicopters dropped several barrel bombs on areas held by Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in southern Hasakah, northeast Syria. This coincided with clashes between pro-regime forces and IS militants in the city, local activists reported. Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, civil rights activist Abdul Karim Saleh said that clashes took place on Sunday between the pro-regime forces and IS militant fighters, during which casualties fell from both sides. “When IS insurgents tried to infiltrate into areas east of Gewran neighborhood, the clashes intensified especially in the vicinity of the Geweran cemetery.” “Other clashes broke out between the two sides on the outskirts of the Nashwa Gharbiya neighborhoods, Youth Housing and Hosh al-Baar area,” the source added. Meanwhile, pro-Assad’s helicopters dropped five barrel bombs on the Geweran cemetery, Hosh al-Baar district and the Nashwa Gharbiya, south Hasakah, killing several militants and destroying at least three vehicles.

Iraq Headline: Car bomb kills scores in mainly Shia town
A car bomb has killed 120 people and injured at least 130 at a busy market in an Iraqi town, officials have said. The attack happened in the predominantly Shia town of Khan Bani Saad, north of the capital Baghdad. Children were among those dead in the explosion, which came as people celebrated the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The Islamic State (IS) group, which control swathes of the country, has said it was behind the attack. A statement from the group said one of its members drove three tonnes of explosives into a crowd. Correspondents say that it was one of the deadliest single attacks in Iraq over the last 10 years and completely destroyed several buildings. Police major Ahmed al-Tamimi told Reuters the damage was “devastating”. “Some people were using vegetable boxes to collect children’s body parts,” he said. Diyala resident Sayif Ali told the AP news that Khan Beni Saad has become a disaster area as its residents continued to search for bodies. Meanwhile Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri said on Saturday that the attack has revealed an “ugly sectarian chord” and that the government was doing all it could to stop IS from further destabilising Diyala.

A bomb attack has killed at least 28 people and wounded nearly 100 others in the Turkish town of Suruc, across the border from the Syrian town of Kobane. The explosion may have been caused by a female suicide attacker, officials say. The blast targeted a group of young people who planned to travel to Kobane to assist with rebuilding. Kobane has seen heavy fighting between Islamic State militants and Kurdish fighters. Turkish authorities believe IS may be responsible for Monday’s attack. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the bombing and described it as “an act of terror”. Suruc houses many refugees who have fled the fighting in Kobane. IS overran the Syrian town in September last year, but it was retaken by Kurdish forces in January. Kobane: Inside the town devastated by fight against IS The district governor of Suruc, Abdullah Ciftci, said: “The fact that it is a suicide attack increases the possibility that IS is responsible. “We think the attacker was a woman. “Preliminary findings show that she was acting on her own,” he told BBC Turkish.

Headline: UN Security Council endorses Iran deal, Tehran diplomat lashes out at US
The U.N. Security Council on Monday unanimously endorsed the Iran nuclear deal, though the show of support was interrupted shortly afterward by a war of words between the American and Iranian ambassadors. Iran’s ambassador lashed out at the U.S. mere moments after the vote, in retaliation for U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power bringing up Tehran’s human rights record. Power, during the session, had raised concerns about Iran’s support for terror proxies and reiterated a U.S. demand that Iran release all unjustly held American prisoners. Iran’s ambassador fired back, blaming the U.S. for instability in the region. Iranian U.N. Ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo said a country that “invaded two countries” in the region should not be leveling such accusations against Iran. The exchange, which came as Israel’s representative continued to assail the deal itself, hung over what was nevertheless the first formal step at the international body toward implementing the deal and rolling back U.N. sanctions.

Headline: US ‘friendly fire’ kills up to 10 Afghan soldiers
A US airstrike killed up to 10 Afghan soldiers Monday at an army checkpoint in a Taliban-infested province south of Kabul, one of the deadliest episodes of “friendly fire” from foreign forces in recent years. The early morning raid in the Baraki Barak district of Logar province comes as coalition forces increase air strikes on potential militant targets despite a drawdown of NATO forces after 13 years of war. The bombing marked the second such incident in the area since last December when a NATO air strike killed five civilians and wounded six others. “At 6:00 am (0130 GMT) today, two US helicopters attacked a checkpoint in Baraki Barak,” district governor Mohammad Rahim Amin told AFP. “The checkpoint caught fire… and 10 Afghan army soldiers were killed,” he added. Civilian and military deaths in coalition airstrikes have been one of the most emotive and high-profile issues of the war, often provoking fury from the government.

Headline: Europe threatens sanctions on Libyans over peace impasse
Four Italian construction workers have been kidnapped in Libya, the Italian foreign ministry has said. They were abducted near a compound owned by Italian oil and gas group Eni in the western Mellitah area, the ministry said. Italy closed its embassy in Libya in February, calling on Italians to leave because of the dangers to foreigners. The country is beset with warring factions four years after the civil war that ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi. The foreign minister Paolo Gentiloni told Italian media on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers that it was difficult to speculate about who was responsible for the abduction at this stage. The workers are employed by Bonatti, a company that provides services to the oil, gas and energy sector, a spokesman confirmed. They were kidnapped while returning from Tunisia on Sunday evening, La Repubblica newspaper reports. Two rival governments are vying for legitimacy and territory in Libya and so-called Islamic State (IS) is among the armed groups operating in the country. Nine foreign oil workers were kidnapped by IS in March.

Headline: Obama admin looks to ban some Social Security recipients from owning guns
The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported. The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper. The language of federal gun laws restricts ownership to people who are unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” – which could potentially affect a large group within Social Security, the LA Times reported. If Social Security, which has never taken part in the background check system, uses the same standard as the Department of Veterans Affairs – which is the idea floated – then millions of beneficiaries could be affected, with about 4.2 million adults receiving monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees.” The latest move is part of the efforts by President Obama to strengthen gun control following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012.

Headline: France’s Hollande Proposes Creation of Euro-Zone Government
French President Francois Hollande said that the 19 countries using the euro need their own government complete with a budget and parliament to cooperate better and overcome the Greek crisis. “Circumstances are leading us to accelerate,” Hollande said in an opinion piece published by the Journal du Dimanche on Sunday. “What threatens us is not too much Europe, but a lack of it.” While the euro zone has a common currency, fiscal and economic policies remain mostly in the hands of each member state. European Central Bank President Mario Draghi made a plea this week for deeper cooperation between the euro members after political squabbles over Greece almost led to a rupture in the single currency. Countries in favor of more integration should move ahead, forming an “avant-garde,” Hollande said. “Europe has let its institutions weaken and the 28 European Union member countries are struggling to agree to move ahead,” Hollande said on Sunday in a text which was also a homage to his mentor Jacques Delors, a former European Commission President who proposed similar ideas. Draghi called for the creation of a shared treasury within 10 years in a joint proposal with politicians including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem last month.

Wars & Rumors of Wars Matthew 24:6 , Revelation 6:3-4 & Revelation 6:8 “ And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. Prophecy Sign: Weapons of Mass Destruction Zechariah 14:12 “And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.”
Headline: Finland Prepares New Military Buildup at Russian Border
Finland’s defense ministry has begun preparing new military units to be deployed at its border with Russia, and is pushing for more defense budget allocations. Finland’s military has begun preparing rapid response units for deployment along the Russian border, DefenseNews reported. The move follows an increased push for militarization which has been ongoing since Finland’s elections in April. The elections were followed by a series of mysterious incidents in which Finland’s military claimed that it spotted “underwater objects” in its territorial waters, which could not be found on further inquiry. The legislative basis for the new units is still lacking, according to the chairman of Finland’s Parliamentary Defense Committee Ilkka Kanerva. “New legislation is needed to enable the armed forces to recruit reservists in a transparent and efficient way. Under the present system, reservist contracts do not stipulate exact service times or how quickly reservists can be mobilized and armed,” Kanerva said, as cited by the publication.

Headline: China responds to U.S. ‘provocations’ in South China Sea
China is stepping up preparations for potential disputes in the South China Sea after the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet engaged in a surveillance flight on Saturday. The Pacific Fleet had publicly confirmed Adm. Scott Swift’s presence on a Boeing P-8A surveillance plane with photographs on its website. According to the U.S. Navy, Swift watched as a commanding officer explained the capabilities of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft during the seven-hour surveillance mission. Washington has requested China put an end to land reclamation in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, but Beijing has neither complied with Washington, nor responded to Manila’s request to resolve the territorial disagreement before an international tribunal. On Monday China’s state-run media outlet Global Times called Swift’s act “provocative,” according to South Korean news network YTN. Beijing’s criticism of the U.S. commander was followed by footage from China’s television network CCTV showing large-scale amphibious landing drills in an unidentified location, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. According to Chinese media the country’s navy conducted its first multi-level amphibious landing exercise involving ships, soldiers and helicopters.

The summit of the dormant volcano is 13,796 feet above sea level. The Star Advertiser reports that it is a rare event, but not unheard of, according to a local meteorologist. Many areas of the state faced flooding from storms that dumped heavy rain across the region. Hawaii is also in the middle of a record-breaking heat wave. Headline: Typhoon Nangka Recap: 29 Inches of Rain Reported
Typhoon Nangka made landfall in Japan late Thursday, lashing the country with heavy rainfall before petering out over the Sea of Japan early Saturday. More than 2 feet of rain were reported in parts of Kōchi, Wakayama, Nara and Mie prefectures in the central part of the country. Many rivers went out of their banks as a result. Heavy rains came well in advance of landfall as well, bringing up to 10 inches of rain to northern parts of the Greater Tokyo area. The center of Typhoon Nangka made its first Japanese landfall at 11:07 p.m. Thursday night local time near Muroto city, which is on the Pacific coast of Shikoku, one of Japan’s four main islands. Nangka was the equivalent of a Category 1 tropical cyclone on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale at landfall with maximum sustained winds estimated at 75 mph, according to both the Japan Meteorological Agency and the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center. (Japan is 13 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Daylight Time.) About seven hours later, Nangka made a second landfall after crossing the Seto Inland Sea separating Shikoku from Japan’s largest island, Honshu. The second landfall, as a tropical storm, occurred in Kurashiki city, Okayama prefecture. Nangka’s center exited Tottori Prefecture and emerged over the Sea of Japan around 3 p.m. local time Friday. Later, JMA said Nangka had weakened to a tropical depression as of 3 a.m. local time Saturday, when it was centered over the Sea of Japan just west of the Noto Peninsula of central Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture.

Headline: Indonesia closes down five airports after volcanoes erupt
Ash streaming from two volcanoes has forced Indonesian authorities to shut five airports, leaving thousands unable to travel home for the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The closures were prompted by eruptions at Mount Raung on the main Java island and Mount Gamalama in eastern Indonesia, CNN reported. Mount Raung, which has been active for weeks, caused Denpasar airport on the Indonesian island of Bali to close last week. Fresh eruptions took place on the eve of Friday’s Eid festival, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. “Mount Raung on the main island of Java blasted ash and debris up to 2,000 meters (6,560 feet) into the air after rumbling for several weeks, and Gamalama mountain in eastern Indonesia erupted Thursday after months of quiet,” The Associated Press reported. According to the AP, Indonesia’s Transport Ministry spokesman Julius Adravida Barata said volcanic ash spewing from Raung blew close to the cities of Surabaya and Malang, forcing Juanda International and Abdurrahman Saleh airports to close.
