Headline: Rocket from Egypt Hits Southern Israel

Headline: Expert: Arab Armies ‘Falling Apart,’ IDF Will Have to Fight ISIS
A rocket fired from Egypt exploded in southern Israel’s Gaza belt region Friday afternoon. Residents of the area were forced into rocket shelters after sirens sounded at approximately 4:20 p.m. local time. No damage or injuries has been reported. The IDF temporarily closed Route 12 as a “security precaution.” Unlike other recent rocket attacks, which have broken the relative calm since the truce signed between Israel and terrorist groups in Gaza, this attack did not come from the Gaza Strip but from within Egyptian territory. Although there has been no official claim of responsibility, the likely culprit is ISIS’s Egyptian branch, known as “Sinai Province.” The terror group has been escalating its attacks against the Egyptian authorities, assassinating Egypt’s chief prosecutor and carrying out a massive assault which left some 100 people dead this week. The group has also in the past vowed to attack Israel, though it has largely been focused on fighting the Egyptian army.

Headline: Israel accuses Hamas of aiding Islamic State in Egypt
Headline: Palestinian ISIS Fighters in Aleppo Threaten Hamas: Gaza Shall Witness Blood and Torn Body Parts –VIDEO
An Israeli general has accused members of Hamas in Gaza of providing support to militants linked to Islamic State in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, where the Egyptian army has fought deadly battles with Islamist insurgents in recent days. Major-General Yoav Mordechai, who oversees Israel’s civilian policy towards Gaza, named members of Hamas’s military wing he said were involved in training fighters of Islamic State, also known as ISIS, and smuggling wounded from Sinai into Gaza for treatment. “We know that Hamas, and I have verified information, that Hamas in Gaza is assisting ISIS Sinai Province both in organization and armaments,” Mordechai told Al Jazeera in an interview, speaking in Arabic. He named two Hamas members, saying Abdallah Qishta was involved in training Islamic State members in Sinai and Wael Faraj, a battalion commander, had “smuggled terrorists from Sinai into Gaza Strip hospitals for medical treatment”. It is not clear how the militants would have been moved into Gaza as Egyptian forces control the border, but there are believed to be tunnels that Egypt has not yet found and destroyed.

Headline: Israeli policymakers’ alarming over-reliance on Egypt to grapple with Hamas and ISIS
The statements coming from different Israeli spokesmen this week were not just at dangerous variance with the actual events but with one another, when it came to Egypt’s massive confrontation this week with ISIS close to Israel’s border, a fresh round of Palestinian West Bank anti-Israel terror and the ambivalent role played by Hamas extremists in all these events. Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai said in an Al Jazeera interview Thursday, July 2, that Israel had “clear evidence” of Hamas aiding the offensive the Islamic State’s Sinai affiliate launched against Egyptian positions in northern Sinai Wednesday. The Israeli commander accused Hamas of giving “weapons and logistical support to the ISIS affiliate.” All three officials were doing their best to put a good face on the Egyptian army’s reverses in its largest battle yet with ISIS, say debkafile’s military sources. No one was ready to admit that the Islamic State’s Sinai branch had won this confrontation on points.

Headline: Netanyahu: The UNHRC Isn’t Interested in the Facts
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu denounced the UN Human Rights Council on Friday, following its decision to endorse the report accusing Israel of war crimes during last summer’s Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. “The UN Human Rights Council is not interested in the facts and is not really interested in human rights,” Netanyahu charged in a statement. “On the day on which Israel was fired at from Sinai, and at a time when ISIS is committing vicious terrorist attacks in Egypt, as [Syrian President Bashar] Assad slaughters his people in Syria and as the number of arbitrary executions per annum climbs in Iran – the UN Human Rights Council decides to condemn the State of Israel for no fault of its own, for acting to defend itself from a murderous terrorist organization,” he continued. “Israel is a stable democracy in the Middle East that upholds equal rights for all its citizens and acts in accordance with international law. “Those who fear to openly attack terrorism will – in the end – be attacked by terrorism,” Netanyahu said. “The council that has hitherto adopted more decisions against Israel than against all other countries cannot call itself a human rights council. “The State of Israel will continue to defend its citizens against those who call for its destruction and take daily action to achieve this goal,” he concluded.

Headline: Hezbollah, Syrian army bombard Zabadani
Hezbollah and the Syrian army Friday struck at militant positions inside the Syrian town of Zabadani at the southern end of Qalamoun, a security source told The Daily Star. The town was bombarded with heavy artillery and rockets, and a Syrian fighter jet carried out two airstrikes on central Zabadani. Warplanes also dropped barrels rigged with explosives over the area, according to the source. The Syrian army, backed by Hezbollah, also pounded militant positions in the village of Bloudan, which overlooks Zabadani, after warning the residents to evacuate it, the source said. A separate security source told The Daily Star that Syrian helicopters dropped leaflets over Zabadani with maps that outlined escape routes for rebels who wanted to flee the town. Other leaflets cautioned residents against approaching militant positions and urged them to stay clear of their supply routes. On Thursday, Hezbollah engaged in fierce clashes with Syrian rebels in Zabadani in a fresh push to seize the last militant stronghold along Lebanon’s eastern border.

Headline: Saudi policeman killed in raid, ISIS flags found
A Saudi policeman was shot dead on Friday during a raid in which three people were arrested and flags of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group were found, the interior ministry said. The killing came with the Gulf region on alert against attacks by ISIS, which has been blamed for killing other Saudi policemen and has claimed three deadly mosque bombings in the kingdom and Kuwait. The ministry said security officers came under fire as they searched for a suspect at a home in Taif, a mountain city about 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Jeddah at 4:30 am (0130 GMT). A sergeant died “as a result of the exchange of fire,” said a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency. “They arrested three suspects, confiscated Daesh flags, silencers and personal laptops,” the ministry added.

Headline: Muslim Brotherhood calls for Egypt ‘rebellion’
The Muslim Brotherhood says its leaders killed in a Cairo apartment were murdered in “in cold blood,” calling for a rebellion against President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who it calls a “butcher.” “Come out in rebellion and in defense of your country, yourselves and your children,” it said in a statement issued in English Wednesday. “Destroy the citadels of his oppression and tyranny and reclaim Egypt once more.” It called the killings “a turning point that will have its own repercussions… el-Sissi is initiating a new phase during which it will not be possible to control the anger of the oppressed sectors who will not accept to be killed in their own houses and in the middle of their families.” It says the men were from a Brotherhood committee that supports the families of the group’s detainees and “martyrs,” and were “rounded up inside the house and then were murdered in cold blood without any investigations or indictments.”

Headline: Egypt military pounds Sinai militants, kills 23
The Egyptian military pounded Islamist militant positions and killed 23 extremists in dawn raids in Sinai Thursday, a day after an unprecedented assault by ISIS-linked extremists in the restive peninsula that undermined government efforts to stem an insurgency in the area despite a two-year crackdown. The fighting heightened tensions across Egypt following the assassination this week of the country’s chief prosecutor in a car bombing in Cairo. President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi Wednesday vowed to step up the legal battle against Islamist militants. In Sinai, security officials said airstrikes killed 23 extremists in dawn raids just south of Rafah, a key border town near the Gaza Strip. The officials also said the army was searching for extremists house to house in the town of Sheikh Zuweid – where the militants attacked a string of army checkpoints the previous day – and was demining roads in and around the area that militants had booby trapped with mines and improvised explosive devices.

Syria Headline: Rebels Launch New Offensive in Southern Syria
Rebel forces in Southern Syria have mobilized for what they hope will be the final phase of a major campaign to force the regime to withdraw from Southern Syria. Should they succeed, they may achieve enough momentum to advance to Damascus and may force the Assad regime to contract from outlying areas, including southern, eastern, and northern Syria where the regime is also challenged. A successful operation by rebels in Southern Syria could therefore alter the stalemate of the Syrian war even though rebels across northern and southern Syria are not coordinated. Rebels in Southern Syria represent a strong potential partner for the U.S. not only to end the Syrian war, but also to limit the expansion of ISIS and al-Qaeda in Syria. The moderate rebel Southern Front coalition has played a leading role in Southern Syria since the summer of 2014, a distinction from other fronts on which moderate rebels play a minimal role. Islamists brigades have fought alongside them, however, and Syrian al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra (JN) has supported their effort, indicating that the influence of moderate rebels in Southern Syria is vulnerable. While their tactical cooperation may improve their chances of driving pro-regime forces from southern Dera’a province, it may also limit future opportunities for the U.S. to capitalize upon their success if moderate rebels are not empowered to remain in the lead through increased international support.

Syria Headline: Syria military resists major rebel assault in Aleppo
The Syrian military has carried out a series of air strikes after rebel forces launched a major assault to take control of the northern city of Aleppo. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said rebels fired hundreds of rockets and shells into at least seven government-held areas late on Thursday. By Friday morning, they had made small advances, the monitoring group added. But the Syrian state news agency Sana said the assault had been repelled and more than 100 “terrorists” killed. On Thursday, 13 Islamist fighting groups and al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, came together to launch a co-ordinated assault on several fronts. A statement said the aim of the new coalition, called Ansar al-Sharia (Partisans of Islamic Law), was “the liberation of Aleppo and its countryside”, after which they would work with other groups to govern the city according to Islamic law. Western-backed groups also said they were taking part in the offensive, organised through a joint operations room called Fatah Halab (Conquest of Aleppo), the New York Times reported. The rebels launched simultaneous attacks on western districts of the city controlled by government forces, firing hundreds of rockets and shells, the Syrian Observatory reported.

Iraq Headline: Bombings in Baghdad, Town South of Iraqi Capital Kill 8
Iraqi officials say bombings in Baghdad and in a town south of the Iraqi capital have killed eight people. Police officials say a bombing Friday near shops in the town of Madain, just south of Baghdad, left three people dead and wounded eight. Also in Madain, a bomb struck a checkpoint manned by pro-government Sunni militiamen, killing two fighters and wounding five. The officials say a bomb blast in a commercial street in eastern Baghdad killed three people. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to reporters. Police said two bodies with gunshot wounds to the head and chest were found in eastern Baghdad. Dead bodies left in the street were a common occurrence during the sectarian violence that engulfed Iraq several years ago.

Kurdish Headline: US blocks attempts by Arab allies to fly heavy weapons directly to Kurds to fight Islamic State
The United States has blocked attempts by its Middle East allies to fly heavy weapons directly to the Kurds fighting Islamic State jihadists in Iraq, The Telegraph has learned. Some of America’s closest allies say President Barack Obama and other Western leaders, including David Cameron, are failing to show strategic leadership over the world’s gravest security crisis for decades. They now say they are willing to “go it alone” in supplying heavy weapons to the Kurds, even if means defying the Iraqi authorities and their American backers, who demand all weapons be channelled through Baghdad. High level officials from Gulf and other states have told this newspaper that all attempts to persuade Mr Obama of the need to arm the Kurds directly as part of more vigorous plans to take on Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) have failed. The Senate voted down one attempt by supporters of the Kurdish cause last month. The officials say they are looking at new ways to take the fight to Isil without seeking US approval. “If the Americans and the West are not prepared to do anything serious about defeating Isil, then we will have to find new ways of dealing with the threat,” said a senior Arab government official. “With Isil making ground all the time we simply cannot afford to wait for Washington to wake up to the enormity of the threat we face.”

Kurdish Headline: Kurds intent on carving new state out of Iraq after ISIS fight ‘whether the US likes it or not’
Kurdish fighters and leaders are intent on carving an independent state out of Northern Iraq after they wrest back vital territory from the Islamic State “whether the U.S. likes it or not,” according to American and international security forces on the ground. Kurdish forces, whose commanders say they aren’t getting enough help from the U.S. and other allies, have been making headway against ISIS. But while re-taking Mosul from ISIS was seen as a key achievement by the U.S., the new focus is squarely on holding Kirkuk, a northern Iraqi city claimed by many to be the cultural Kurdish capital. “They are pushing hard in Kirkuk to hold Kirkuk and keep ISIS out and once that is done, they will move forward with plans for their country,” one operator on the ground with direct connections to Kurdish leaders told Fox News. Another source, who is directly advising Kurdish leaders, said “they have only one goal, whether the U.S. likes it or not.” Lahur Talabani, head of the Kurdistan Intelligence Agency, acknowledged his interest in making an independent nation a reality. “Everybody’s dream, every single Kurd, wants to have a free independent Kurdistan.” At the same time, he said surrounding nations that have Kurdish immigrants “will do everything within their power to stop us.” “Of course we want to be free. It will be difficult, but we would love for it to happen right now,” he said.

Headline: ISIS foils attempt to depose Baghdadi: report
ISIS has foiled a serious coup attempt aimed at deposing its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to a report published after the extremist group allegedly executed a top official in Mosul. “For the first ever there has been an attempt to depose Abu Bakr al-Baghadi,” Alaraby Aljadeed quoted corroborative Syrian and Iraqi sources as saying. The London-based daily reported that as a result of the attempted coup, thirteen prominent commanders in ISIS have been executed for their role in the conspiracy, including five high-ranking military officials. “Most of the executed commanders were Arabs from the Arab Maghreb [northern Africa] region, Syria, Yemen and Kuwait. One Kurd and one Chechen were also executed,” the article said. The newspaper added that the aborted coup “took place after harsh disputes over the course the group’s military operations were taking and their expansion to include jihadist factions that opposed the group, especially in Syria, Libya and Afghanistan.” The Alaraby Aljadeed report comes on the heels of earlier accounts that ISIS had executed a top official in Mosul “on charges of conspiracy” amid rifts between foreign and local jihadists in the group. A well-informed source in the Iraqi city of Mosul told Alaraby Aljadeed that a plot had been drawn up to kill Baghdadi near the group’s stronghold in Syria. “The coup, which was aborted a short time before it came to fruition, would have targeted Baghdadi’s convoy with IEDs on a farm road south of the Syrian city of Raqqa.” According to the source, the exposure of the coop and subsequent executions, which took place between June 10 and 13, came as “a powerful shock — the most violent that group has seen internally.”

Headline: Turkey reinforces Syria border as fighting in Aleppo intensifies
Turkey has deployed additional troops and equipment along part of its border with Syria as fighting north of the city of Aleppo intensifies, security sources said, but Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said there were no immediate plans for any incursion. Ankara has mooted the creation of a “secure zone” on Syrian territory due to concerns about Syrian Kurd advances and the presence of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, as well as the possibility of a fresh wave of refugees fleeing conflict. Security sources and officials in the capital Ankara said the Turkish army had stepped up security, also sending in special forces, due to the heavy fighting.

Headline: Iran takes hard stance on key provisions in nuke deal
Iran took a hard stance on two of the biggest demands of world powers in a final nuclear deal Thursday, rejecting any extraordinary inspection rules and warning that if the U.S. and other countries re-impose sanctions after the deal is done, it will ramp up enrichment of bomb-making materials. A senior Iranian negotiator told reporters outside Vienna the U.N. nuclear agency’s standard rules governing access to government information, sites of interests and scientists should be sufficient to ensure that Iran’s program is solely for peaceful purposes. Anything beyond that would be unfair, he said. However, the U.S. and some other countries want Iran to take the extra step. “We should be realistic,” said the Iranian official, who briefed members of the news media on condition he not be quoted by name. The man also questioned the legitimacy of countries that don’t accept the International Atomic Energy Agency’s jurisdiction demanding that Iran be subject to tougher requirements than any other nation. RIA-Novosti reported that Russia also backed Iran’s position that additional inspection guidelines for Iran weren’t necessary.

Headline: The dramatic rise of the Islamic State in Tunisia
On 18 May, a little known Tunisian militant organisation calling itself Mujahedeen Tunisia Kairouan took to Twitter to declare its allegiance to the Islamic State group. It took IS three days to acknowledge the message. Few others paid much attention. One month, eight days and 39 lives later, that situation appears unimaginable. Last week’s deadly attack on tourists at a beach resort in Sousse by a Mujahedeen Tunisia Kairouan-linked gunman appeared to confirm the group’s ascendancy, and the ability of IS to outmanoeuvre al-Qaeda in wielding local influence. The appeal of IS among some sections of Tunisian society, especially in the country’s economically deprived hinterland where anger and disaffection is most widespread, was already well entrenched. Tunisia has contributed about 3,000 fighters to the war in Syria and Iraq. Less well known is the fact that the Tunisian interior ministry says it has prevented a further 12,490 people from joining the conflict. While that figure has been disputed, it offers a yardstick of the groundswell of resentment that the Tunisian state is facing.

Headline: Boko Haram guns down 97 people praying in mosques in Nigeria
Boko Haram extremists gunned down nearly 100 Muslims praying in mosques in a northeast Nigerian town during the holy month of Ramadan, a government official and a self-defense fighter said Thursday. The attack Wednesday night on the town of Kukawa came the day after the Islamic extremist group attacked a village 35 kilometers (22 miles) away and killed another 48 men and boys, according to witnesses who counted the dead. The people of Kukawa were in several mosques, praying ahead of breaking their daylong fast, when the extremists attacked. They killed 97 people, mainly men, said self-defense spokesman Abbas Gava and a senior government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to give information to reporters. Gava said his group’s fighters in Kukawa said some militants also broke into people’s homes, killing women and children as they prepared the evening meal. Kukawa is 180 kilometers (110 miles) northeast of Maiduguri, the biggest city in northeast Nigeria and the birthplace of Boko Haram.

The United States says it is suspending some security assistance programs to Burundi because of abuses committed by police during political protests and the government’s decision to proceed with what the U.S. says were “flawed” parliamentary elections. The State Department said late Thursday that Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza’s decision to run for a third term in office “has resulted in dozens of deaths, the exodus of over 144,000 Burundians to neighboring countries, and a freefall for the Burundian economy.” It said the government’s decision to push ahead with June 29 parliamentary elections despite the “complete absence” of the necessary conditions for free and fair elections has “exacerbated an already dire situation.” The State Department urged Burundi to heed numerous calls from the international community to delay the July 15 presidential election.

Six U.N. peacekeepers were killed and five others were injured Thursday in an attack on their convoy in the West African nation of Mali, the United Nations said. All 11 peacekeepers were from neighboring Burkina Faso. Details about the attack, which happened in central Mali’s Timbuktu region, weren’t immediately available, and the United Nations didn’t say who was behind the assault. The attack brings to 42 the number of peacekeepers killed in Mali since their mission began in 2013. The United Nations sent peacekeepers to Mali in April 2013 to guard against militant Islamists who threatened to move on the West African nation’s capital, Bamako. “These attacks will not alter the determination of the United Nations to support the Malian people and the peace process,” the office of the spokesman for U.N. Headline: Evidence shows buildup of Russian tanks, generals in Ukraine
Headline: Ukraine Crisis Update: July 2, 2015
New evidence is exposing Russia’s deepening role in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, suggesting Vladimir Putin may be preparing to gobble up more territory undeterred by NATO — as a new U.S. military document highlights the extent of Moscow’s aggression. Bloomberg View reported that Ukraine security officials have found five Russian generals are playing a lead role commanding separatist units inside the country, despite Kremlin denials. This comes as aerial video shot by a drone — and provided by pro-Ukraine fighting units — depicts the build-up of a Russian military base with tanks and other gear in eastern Ukraine. “We see a more assertive Russia trying to intimidate neighbors and change borders,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently said. The NATO secretary general spoke after inspecting one of six new forward bases the alliance is building in Romania and the neighboring Baltics — a response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine. It’s the biggest reinforcement of NATO’s collective defense since the end of the Cold War. Whether it will be enough remains to be seen. Retired Maj. Gen. Bob Scales, a Fox News military analyst, said that western action may be no more than a “pinprick” at this stage and that Putin’s got five or six “modernized divisions” on the Ukrainian border.

Voters have received a clear message from the euro area: vote “Yes” in the July 5 bailout referendum. But Greece’s Syriza-led government is pushing the other way. “Greek people are hereby asked to decide whether they accept a draft agreement document submitted by the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, at the Eurogroup meeting held on on June 25 and which consists of two documents:
‘‘The first document is called Reforms for the Completion of the Current Program and Beyond and the second document is called Preliminary Debt Sustainability Analysis.

‘‘- Those citizens who accept the institutions’ proposal vote Approved / YES.’’
With polls showing a tight result, the only thing certain about the referendum is the timing: polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the result may be known before midnight. Either way, what follows are emergency negotiations, the outcome deciding which side feels it has the upper hand.

Pestilence & Plagues Luke 21:11 & Revelation 6:8 “And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.” (Luke) “So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death (Thanatos in Greek meaning the death of the body whether natural or violent), and by the beasts of the earth” (Revelation)
Headline: Ebola crisis: Liberia’s new outbreak spreads
Two more cases of Ebola have been confirmed in Liberia following the death of a teenager from the virus on Sunday, officials say. The country had been declared Ebola-free more than seven weeks ago. Both of the new cases were in Nedowein, the same village where the boy died, the ministry of information says. Liberia’s authorities quarantined the area after the teenager’s death and said his funeral was carried out safely. Health official Cestus Tarpeh told AFP news agency that the pair had been in physical contact with the 17 year old before his death. He added that a herbalist who had treated the boy had evaded the authorities and was on the run. It is not clear how the teenager who died was infected. There has been some confusion about whether one or two extra cases have been confirmed.

Headline: 29 die in South Sudan cholera outbreak as cases continue to increase in the capital
At least 29 people have died in South Sudan’s latest cholera outbreak, the U.N. children’s agency said Friday. Cholera had sickened 484 people by the end of June and the number of cases continues to rise in the nation’s capital of Juba, according to UNICEF. Children under 5 comprise 13 percent of the cases, UNICEF said, adding that funding is needed as the agency has been using its flexible internal resources to meet critical needs. In addition to Juba, cholera cases have also been reported in Bor, Jonglei state, as well as Torit in the state of Eastern Equatoria. Last year a cholera outbreak in South Sudan infected more than 6,000 people and killed 167, according to World Health Organization figures.

Headline: Quake in rural China kills three, damages thousands of homes
A strong earthquake hit a rural part of China’s far western Xinjiang region on Friday, killing three people, injuring dozens and destroying or damaging thousands of homes, the government and state media said. Many traditional houses in the mainly ethnic Uighur region collapsed when the shallow 6.4 magnitude quake struck about 160 km (100 miles) northwest of the southern city of Hotan, emergency officials said. The dead included a father and son, the government-run China National Emergency Broadcasting said on its website. The Ministry of Civil Affairs added that at least 3,000 homes either collapsed or were seriously damaged and 1,000 tents were being sent to the region. Late on Friday, state news agency Xinhua put the number of injured at about 43 and revised down death toll to three from six.
