Rebuilding the Gaza Strip and creating opportunities for its residents would hurt Hamas, not help it, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on his visit to Jerusalem on Tuesday. “If we do this right,” Blinken said, “reconstruction and relief for the people of Gaza, far from empowering Hamas, has the potential to undermine it. I say that because Hamas thrives, unfortunately, on despair, misery, desperation, on a lack of opportunity.” Rebuilding of Gaza would not only answer immediate needs for water and electricity, but should “offer genuine prospect for opportunity, progress and material improvement in people’s lives,” he said in a news conference. If the US, UN, Israel, the Palestinian Authority and others work toward that aim, “Hamas’s foothold in Gaza will slip,” Blinken argued. “We know that, and I think Hamas knows that.” Israel has said that any aid to Gaza must be closely watched to ensure that it does not reach Hamas, with the Defense Ministry working this week on developing such a system.

The rocket volley that was launched on Jerusalem and opened “Operation Guardian of the Walls” was much more than just a premeditated military maneuver — this was a blunt and conscious violation of the status quo in the Gaza Strip for the past year and a half which stood in the heart of what could be called “the Israel strategy” on the issue. This escalation in violence did not come amid a deteriorating security situation or some sort of civilian hardships as happened leading up to the 2014 Gaza war. Quite the opposite. The recent fighting came as quality of life in the Gaza Strip was continually improving and after Israel promoted many nods designed to ensure civilian stability in the Palestinian enclave — from issuing traders exit permits, through promoting exports from the seaside territory, to expanding its fishing zone and providing broad assistance to help eradicate COVID-19. Hamas’ opening shot and its use of Israel’s conduct in Jerusalem as an excuse attest to how the terror outfit perceives the status quo: a bind of nebulous understandings from which it can opt in and out according to its whims. The Israeli side, however, worked its fingers to the bone to preserve the arrangement that was seen as a guarantee to long-lasting peace in the Strip.

UN opens permanent Israeli war crimes probe following Gaza war, calls for embargo
Following Operation Guardian of the Walls against Gaza terrorist groups, for the first time ever the UNHRC has created a permanent fact-finding mission regarding a UN member state. The United Nations Human Rights Council voted 24-9 Thursday to launch an investigation against Israel for alleged war crimes, including during the recent war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and called for an arms embargo against the Jewish state. An additional 14 countries out of the 47-member body abstained. None of the European Union countries supported the measure. It marks the first time that the UNHRC created a permanent fact-finding mission with respect to any UN member state. Israel’s Foreign Ministry immediately stated that it had no intention of cooperating with the probe. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated: “Today’s shameful decision is yet another example of the UN Human Rights Council’s blatant anti-Israel obsession. “Once again, an immoral automatic majority at the Council whitewashes a genocidal terrorist organization that deliberately targets Israeli civilians while turning Gaza’s civilians into human shields. The “commission of inquiry” would examine incidents that occurred both before and after April 13, 2021 within sovereign Israel, including Jerusalem, as well as in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Senior Hezbollah Official: The Smuggling Of Rockets Into Palestine Continues At Full Force
Palestinian activists have called for a “day of rage” in the Palestinian Territories May 28. Specifically, activists are planning a demonstration after Friday prayers outside of the Al-Bireh Grand Mosque in the West Bank. Additional demonstrations are likely to materialize around popular protest sites, including public squares, city centers, and government buildings; previous related protests have convened at Martyrs’ Square in Nablus and Manarah Square in Ramallah. Activists may also gather at flashpoint sites, including near Israeli settlements, military checkpoints, and territorial border areas. Associated demonstrations are possible in the Gaza Strip. Increased security deployments are likely throughout Palestinian villages and Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Clashes are possible if protesters are overly disruptive or fail to adhere to the instructions of security personnel. Israeli security forces typically respond aggressively to perceived threats, and have employed riot-control measures and occasionally fired warning shots or live ammunition during recent similar actions, particularly in East Jerusalem and near Israeli settlements and security checkpoints in the West Bank. Localized ground transportation disruptions are likely near all affected sites.

At a special session of the Jordanian Parliament to discuss recent fighting between Israel and Hamas, Jordanian lawmakers called to annul all agreements with the Jewish state. During the session, which was aired on Palestine TV on May 17, Jordanian MP Safaa Momani said that the Jews, as “slayers of the prophets,” could not be trusted. “We, the Arabs and the Muslims must support [the Palestinians] for real, rather than make do with condemnations. We must annul all the accords and agreements, because the Jews are the slayers of the prophets, who have betrayed all the pacts and contracts. From the beginning of time, they had no respect for treaties. They violated their pact with the Prophet Muhammad, so why do we expect them to abide by their promises? All our agreements with them should be annulled,” said Momani. MP Saleh al-Armouti saluted Hamas, which he said had “restored our honor and our glory, in light of the Arab, Islamic, and international apathy.”

Arab coalition intercepts Houthi drone targeting Saudi Arabia
The Arab coalition has intercepted a Houthi drone targeting the southern region of Saudi Arabia, state news agency SPA reported on Friday. The coalition said they continue to take precautions to protect civilians as the militia continue to target them, the report added. Saudi Arabia’s civil defense said on Wednesday that several missiles fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militia from inside Yemen landed in the Kingdom. Lt. Col. Mohannad bin Jasser Zailai, deputy media spokesman for the Civil Defense Directorate in Jazan region, said authorities attended the site to find five missiles near a main road of one of the border villages in Jazan. The spokesman said there were no casualties reported. The Houthi militia has stepped up attempts to target civilian and economic objects in Saudi Arabia amid mounting international and Arab condemnation.

Iran: Large fire reported at oil refinery, day after drone factory blast
A large fire was reported at the Kangan Petro Refining Co. (KPRC) in southern Iran along the coast of the Persian Gulf on Monday, just a day after an explosion reportedly impacted a drone factory in the center of the country. According to Iranian media, a fire at the waste warehouse at KPRC was contained and extinguished within an hour and no operational units were damaged. No injuries were reported in the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been reported and is still under investigation. The fire comes just a day after nine people were injured in an explosion at the Sepahan Nargostar chemical and fireworks factory in the city of Shahin Shahr in Iran’s Isfahan Province on Saturday night.

Taliban warns nearby nations against hosting US military after withdrawal
The Afghan Taliban on Wednesday warned nearby nations against allowing the United States to use their territory for operations in the country after they withdraw from Afghanistan. As foreign forces withdraw troops by President Joe Biden’s announced deadline of Sept. 11, experts and diplomats have speculated that Washington’s future role in the region could include bases in nearby countries, especially Pakistan. Two Taliban sources said several members of the group’s political office are currently in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad for talks over the ongoing negotiations, including whether to take part in a conference due to take place in Turkey that they had previously boycotted.

US Mint Delays Silver Shipments Due To “Global Silver Shortage”
Interest in silver is soaring (both for industrial use and financial investment), echoing 2013’s crisis, as a recent report from the Silver Institute, silver demand for printed and flexible electronics is forecast to increase 54% over the next 10 years. Demand for silver in this rapidly developing sector is forecast to come in at 48 million ounces this year. By 2030, the demand is expected to surge to 615 million ounces. according to the New York Times, the U.S. Mint even upped its coin production in mid-2020 after shortages of coins have been reported in the U.S. as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but demand over the past few months from coin hodlers appears to have overwhelmed the US Mint.

US Prices Jump 3.6% Last Month From April 2020

Corn prices are up by over 50% in 2021 alone
US inflation climbed 3.6 percent in April compared to the same month in 2020 as prices recovered from the mass business disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to government data released Friday. The spike in the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index was the largest reported by the Commerce Department since September 2008, and comes as economists debate whether government stimulus and loose Federal Reserve policy will cause the world’s largest economy to overheat. Spending in April increased 0.5 percent from March with consumers steering their dollars to bars, restaurants and outdoor recreation, the data said, even as income plunged 13.1 percent as the effects of government stimulus checks and unemployment benefits meant to aid the recovery faded. Spending was higher than economists forecast but much less than the 4.7 percent spike seen in March. However, Gregory Daco of Oxford Economics said further gains are coming in the months ahead. Enter Joe Biden’s “American Jobs Plan,” a $2.3 trillion spending scheme that takes some Americans’ most fevered fantasies and wraps them inside an “infrastructure” label in an effort to convince Capitol Hill that the spending is all about roads and bridges. An analysis by the Wharton School places plenty of caution flags on this initiative. To be clear, the spending bill is actually the creation of a national debt so massive that it has the means to destabilize a democracy dependent on a functioning economy.

Queer Is In, Christian Is Out – Boom In LGBT Content For Children
The boom in LGBT content for children has continued, with yet another classic getting a Pride makeover. According to Christianity Daily, the fairytale Cinderella will be coming to Amazon Prime in September with a “LGBTQ sexless godmother,” played, unsurprisingly, by male homosexual Billy Porter. Porter told CBS that the new version will be “a classic fairytale for a new generation.” The BBC is also plugging a new children’s book called My Daddies, the story of a motherless little girl adopted by two men. This book was newsworthy not because there is any shortage of this sort of thing lately, but because it is “the first book of its kind to be written and illustrated by same-sex adoptive parents,” and “the first picture book about two gay dads with both an LGBT author and illustrator.” PBS, as I noted earlier this month in my LifeSiteNews column, is pitching a drag queen called “Little Miss Hot Mess” — funded by the taxpayer. The intended audience is ages three to eight. Netflix’s latest animated feature film for children, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, also manages to shoehorn in some LGBT content. In one of the final scenes, the mother asks her daughter if she will be bringing her lesbian partner to Thanksgiving. This, of course, is precisely the sort of matter-of-fact representation the movement has long been pushing for. LGBT toys, as one media outlet put it, are also “all the rage”.

Severe Cyclonic Storm “Yaas” makes landfall over Odisha, India
Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Yaas” crossed the north Odisha coast, India about 20 km (12.4 miles) south of Balasore from 05:00 to 06:00 UTC (10:30 to 11:30 IST) on May 26, 2021, with an estimated wind speed of 130 – 140 km/h (80 – 87 mph) gusting to 155 km/h (95 mph). Yass then moved NNW at a speed of about 14 km/h (9 mph) and was about 15 km (9 miles) SSW of Balasore at 06:00 UTC. It weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm by 07:00 UTC. According to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, around 20 000 mud houses and temporary shelters in Bengal were already destroyed or damaged. “I have not seen anything like this before,” said Bengal minister Bankim Hazra after sea waters inundated low-lying areas in Digha. In 24 hours to 06:00 UTC, Kusumi in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district recorded 304 mm (11.9 inches) of rain, 288 mm (11.3 inches) was recorded in Chandbali, Odisha, and 275 mm (10.8 inches) in Rajnagar, Odisha. Tidal waves of 2 – 3 m (6.5 – 10 feet) above the astronomical tides were expected to continue to flood the low-lying areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts over the next few hours.
