Israel’s prime minister says he is holding consultations to promote sanctions against the Islamic Movement in Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu says Sunday that the movement is a part of the “systematic, untrue incitement” against Israel that has sparked recent violence. Israel says the group, which runs education and religious services for Israeli Arabs, has incited violence by spreading lies about Israel’s supposed intentions regarding a sensitive Jerusalem holy site which is sacred to both Muslims and Jews. At his weekly Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu singled out an Arab lawmaker, Hanin Zoabi, who the premier said called on hundreds of thousands of worshippers to ascend to the site to prevent an “Israeli plot of bloodletting of east Jerusalem residents.” Netanyahu says that amounts to clear incitement to violence and has asked the attorney general to open a criminal investigation against Zoabi. After ongoing Palestinian riots, which have including shootings, stabbings, and rock and Molotov cocktail throwing – as well as the murder of 4 Israeli civilians – Mahmoud Abbas last week justified it all as legitimate defense of holy sites, reports Palestinian Media Watch. “The Palestinian side did not attack and did not do anything against the Israelis. If they [Israelis] think that the [Palestinian] people in Jerusalem are protecting themselves, that is our right. We have to protect our holy sites,” Abbas was quoted as saying by official PA media. Abbas then attacked Israel’s defense measures against Palestinian terror: “The Israeli government is escalating its strong offensive against the Palestinian people everywhere… Honestly, we do not know what the reason is for this.” Palestinian Media Watch noted that Abbas made these statements last Tuesday, October 6, less than a week after Arab terrorists murdered four Israeli civilians. Meanwhile, Abbas’ adviser Sultan Abu Al-Einein explicitly glorified murder on his Facebook page. He called the stabbing murders of two civilians in Jerusalem, and the injuring of the wife and 2-year-old child of one of the victims, a “heroic operation.” He also posted the picture of the stabber, and “saluting” those “protecting Jerusalem” he wrote: “Kiss their foreheads, and do not forget their hands.”

The Palestinian Authority and Hamas have been prominent in the call for Palestinians to attack Jews, with the most common attacks being stabbings. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called on Arabs to take part in the “intifada” throughout Israel. According to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), the imam of the Al Abrar Mosque in the Gaza city of Rafah is seen on video brandishing a dagger while urging Palestinians to murder Jews.

Headline: Jordan Bans Religious Jews’ Tefillin at the Border
A Jordanian security official last week forbade a group of religious Israeli tourists to bring in tefillin, the ritual phylacteries that Jewish men wear every weekday. The official, a report on Israel Radio said, told the group that bringing in such objects was not permissible, and demanded that they surrender the phylacteries before crossing the border. The official said that Jordan did not allow the ritual objects in the country in order to ensure the “safety” of the travelers. Muslims who saw the objects – or worse, saw Jews wearing the objects – would be offended, the official said, and might not be able to restrain themselves from attacking the wearers. An Israeli officials said that the phenomenon was not new, but that Israeli travel agents and government agencies did not inform tourists to Jordan of the regulations because they are not “official,” but imposed at the discretion of border officials in Jordan depending on the situation. On Saturday, Jordan’s parliament accused Israel of “state terrorism” against the Palestinian people after Israeli troops shot dead seven Gazans who tried to breach the border fence and infiltrate Israel, AFP reported.

Headline: Thousands of Lebanese protest vacant presidency
Thousands of Lebanese rallied at the presidential palace outside Beirut on Sunday in a show of support for Christian politician Michel Aoun, pressing their demand for him to fill the presidency vacant for over a year. Waving the orange flag of Aoun’s Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), they packed streets in the Baabda district that houses the headquarters of the presidency. The presidency is set aside for a Maronite Christian but has been unoccupied due to a political crisis stoked by regional conflicts including the war in neighbouring Syria.
“The president of the republic shouldn’t be just any person who fills the post, as some people want him to be,” Aoun told the crowd as his supporters shouted, “Aoun for president of the republic!” “It should be someone who is like you, who reflects you and who rejects oppression and stands up for your rights,” he said.

Syria Headline: Syrian army, Russian jets drive back rebels in fiercest clashes for days: monitor
Syrian army and allied forces supported by Russian warplanes made further advances as they pressed an offensive against insurgents on Monday, in the fiercest clashes for nearly a week, a monitor said. Russian jets carried out at least 30 air strikes on the town of Kafr Nabuda in Hama province in western Syria, and hundreds of shells hit the area as the Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters seized part of it, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Moscow says its air campaign targets Islamic State, but most of the strikes have hit rival insurgent groups fighting against Assad, some of which are supported by the United States. Pro-government forces including the Lebanese group Hezbollah on Monday captured the southern part of Kafr Nabuda, the Observatory’s Rami Abdulrahman said. The fighting, shelling and air strikes killed and wounded dozens of insurgents, he said. “These are the most violent battles in the northern countryside (of Hama) since the start of joint operations several days ago” between the Russian air force and Syrian ground forces, he said. Lebanese-based television station al-Mayadeen also reported the takeover of the southern part of Kafr Nabuda.

Kurdish militia in northern Syria has joined forces with Arab rebels and their new alliance has been promised fresh weapon supplies by the United States for an assault on Islamic State forces in Raqqa, a spokesman said on Monday. The alliance calling itself the Democratic Forces of Syria includes the Kurdish YPG militia and Syrian Arab groups, some of which fought alongside it in a campaign that drove Islamic State from wide areas of northern Syria earlier this year. The Arab groups in the new alliance are operating under the name “The Syrian Arab Coalition” – a grouping which US officials have said would receive support under a new US strategy aimed at fighting Islamic State in Syria.

A RUSSIAN jet has been shot down by Turkish forces after it flew into the country’s airspace, according to as yet unconfirmed reports circulating on social media. Eyewitnesses saw a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria (24 min. north of Aleppo), while three fighter jets were hovering above. One journalist tweeted that three Turkish planes were responding to “mysterious” lock-ons from Mig-29 jets, which are used by Putin’s forces. Express.co.uk has contacted the Turkish government and the Russian military but neither could be reached for comment. It comes amid heightening tensions between Putin and the West just days after another Russian bomber violated Turkish airspace. F-16 fighters were scrambled after a MIG-29 twin-engined jet locked radar on Turkish planes near the town of Yayladagi, in Hatay province close to the border with Syria. Turkish jets then escorted the Soviet-era aircraft back into Syrian airspace.

Two powerful bombs exploded near the main train station in Ankara on Saturday morning, targeting a peace rally and causing carnage, killing at least 97 people and injuring more than 400 others in the deadliest attack in the Turkish capital in recent memory. The explosions, which caused chaos and bloodshed, took place during a peace march involving, among others, the pro-Kurdish HDP, or People’s Democratic Party. The casualties, reported by the interior ministry, consisted primarily of people gathered outside the main train station to attend a lunchtime demonstration to call for an end to the renewed conflict between the Kurdistan Workers Pary (PKK) and the Turkish government. About 14,000 people were in the area. Two suicide bombers are believed to have caused the blasts, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a televised address to the nation. “In total 97 people have been murdered, 68 of them died right after the blast, whereas 29 of them were severely wounded and sent to the hospitals, where they lost their lives,” said Dr. Huseyin Demirdezen, a member of head council of Turkish Medical Association. The attack came before national elections, scheduled for November 1. A video on social media shows a ring of young people dancing and singing before an orange blast erupts in the background. The video ends with the crowd running away from the blast. Following the attack, for which no group has claimed responsibility, bodies lay in front of the station on Hipodrum Street and paramedics tended to the injured as a police helicopter circled overhead. Video showed bodies strewn on sidewalks, with injured people lying on the ground with bystanders trying desperately to help them. Protest banners and flags littered the ground. Members of the public helped carry the injured to ambulances and buses to take them to hospital. The blasts were so powerful they shook high-rise office buildings at some distance. The death toll is expected to climb.

Turkish military planes pounded Kurdish rebel targets on Sunday (11 October), one day after the worst bomb attack in the country’s history killed up to 128 people and injured hundreds at a pro-Kurdish rally in Ankara. The planes struck Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey, killing some 30-35 fighters, despite the militant group calling for a ceasefire and ordering its fighters to halt attacks on Turkish soil. Ankara dismissed the PKK declaration as a ploy. The renewed attacks on Kurdish targets comes after bombs detonated just seconds apart in Ankara on Satursday, as crowds gathered for a march to protest over the deaths of hundreds of people since the collapse of a ceasefire between security forces and the rebel PKK in July. Turkish security officials blamed the Islamic State, which holds swathes of Syrian land bordering Turkey, but the group made no claim to the bombing. Security sources told Reuters that the Ankara attack bore similarities to a July suicide bombing in Suruc near the Syrian border, also blamed on the Islamists. Iran didn’t violate the historic nuclear deal it reached with six world powers in July by test-launching a new surface-to-surface ballistic missile this week, deputy Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said Monday. Iran test-fired a long-range missile called the Emad on Sunday, its state news agency said, leading the U.S. State Department to say it would take “appropriate actions” at the United Nations if the move violated U.N. Security Council resolutions. A State Department spokesman didn’t elaborate on what that action might entail. But Mr. Araghchi said Monday that the test wasn’t a violation of the nuclear deal, and that Iran wouldn’t compromise on its national defense, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported. But the deal’s prohibition “doesn’t lie in missile booster or nonnuclear warhead design, or range-payload,” said Anthony Cordesman, an expert on Iranian missile capabilities at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. “It only applies to actually developing and deploying a nuclear warhead for a given missile.” It is unclear whether Iran has carried out such development activities for the Emad, which is estimated by some analysts to have a range of up to 800 miles, putting it within striking distance of regional adversaries, including Israel.

Three explosions killed 37 people Saturday in a Chadian city on the shores of Lake Chad, security sources said, in the latest atrocity blamed on the Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram. Another 52 people were reportedly wounded in the attacks that struck at around 4:00 pm (1500 GMT), the sources told AFP, with one blast targeting the fish market at Baga Sola and the other two occurring at a refugee camp on the outskirts of the city. It was the first time Baga Sola was hit by such an attack, and the belief that it was relatively safe had led tens of thousands of Nigerian refugees and Chadians displaced by Boko Haram violence to seek shelter there. “There are bodies everywhere, a head here, a leg there, everyone is in a state of panic,” a resident told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that “people are now trying to piece together the bodies.” Rescuers have evacuated the wounded to an overwhelmed local hospital, a security source said, adding that 10 people were in “very critical” condition. A humanitarian source told AFP by phone on condition of anonymity that a teenager blew himself up at the market, while the other two blasts were the work of women wearing the Islamic veil.

Yemen’s remaining Jews have been given a stark choice by their government: Convert to Islam or leave the country. According to acting Regional Cooperation Minister Ayoub Kara, a Druse lawmaker who maintains ties with contacts across the Arab world, a representative of Yemen’s small Jewish community reached out to him with a written ultimatum from the country’s government. The Jews were told to “convert or leave the state,” the Likud MK told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday, adding that the unnamed Jewish representative “requested that I take care of this.” A spokesman for the party of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh said the report was incorrect. Yemen boasted a Jewish population of over 50,000 during the mid-20th century; there are now fewer than 100 Jews in the capital, with another community of similar size in the northern town Raida. The majority of the country’s Jews immigrated to Israel shortly after the it was established. The Jewish community has faced dangers in recent years. After Houthi rebels entered the capital last year, supporters gathered in the streets, some chanting “Death to America! Death to the Jews! Victory to Islam.” The Houthi logo features the phrases “Death to Israel” and “Damn the Jews.”

The U.S. determination to challenge China with patrols near Chinese-built islands in the South China Sea will test Xi Jinping’s recent pledge that Beijing doesn’t intend to “militarize” the islands, an announcement that took U.S. officials by surprise. The Chinese leader made the commitment during a news conference with President Barack Obama at the White House late last month, though he left it unclear how the pledge would affect China’s activities in the disputed area of the South China Sea. If Mr. Xi’s goal was to discourage the U.S. from conducting patrols near the artificial islands, he doesn’t appear to have succeeded. After months of debate in the U.S. government, there is now a consensus that the U.S. Navy should send ships or aircraft within 12 nautical miles of the artificial islands to challenge China’s territorial claims there, according to people familiar with internal discussions. A U.S. official confirmed Sunday that a decision had been made to conduct such patrols but said it was unclear when that might happen or where exactly. “It’s just a matter of time when it happens,” the official said. According to the proposed budget submitted by the current ‘blue-blue’ government the Norwegian deficit will reach another record high in 2016. Mainland taxes are expected to bring in 1,008 billion NOKs, while expenditures are estimated at 1,215 billion NOKs. In other words, 2016 will be another year of record mainland deficit which need to be covered by the offshore sector and its 6,900 bn NOK sovereign wealth fund (SWF). While record mainland deficits covered by the petroleum sector is nothing new in Norwegian budget history, on the contrary it is closer to the norm, the 2016 budget did raise some eyebrows. The other side of the ledger, the net inflow to the SWF from activities in the North Sea will, again according to budget, be lower than the required amount to cover the deficit. This has never happened before and is testimony of the sea change occurring in the world of petrodollar recycling. Interestingly enough, the need to liquidate SWF holdings is helping to create further deflation in the Eurodollar system in a self-reinforcing loop. As Eurodollar liquidity dries up and consequently pushes up the price of actual dollar (note, Eurodollars are international claims to domestic US dollars but for which no such dollars actual exists) the problem for petro-states compounds. One way this manifest itself is through international purchasing power of prior savings. A SWF as the Norwegian was created through a surplus of exports over imports meaning it can only be utilized through future imports over exports. When the Norwegians look at their wealth expressed in Norwegian kroner it all looks fine, but expressed in dollars the SWF has shrunk considerably in size. Thus, the surfeit imports expected by the Norwegian populace cannot be met. Norway rode high on a wave of liquidity which pushed up commodity currencies, leading Norwegians to consume more imported goods today, without realizing they were tapping into the principal of their future. When the tide turns the gross misconception is revealed.

Headline: UK police says witchcraft, exorcism cases on rise
Britain’s Metropolitan Police have reported an increase in the number of child abuse cases that involve allegations of witchcraft and exorcism. Police said Sunday a specialist unit received 46 such cases in 2014, more than twice as many as the year before. The “Project Violet” unit says 60 incidents have been reported so far this year, continuing the upward trend. Detective Sergeant Terry Sharpe said the number of incidents remains “small in number” but that “there has been a significant increase.” He said in one case a 9-year-old boy was called a “devil child” and thrown out of his home by his parents. Another case involved a mother who believed her son was a witch and tried to bite and smother him.
