Headline: Multiple Terror Attacks Hit Israel in Unprecedented Strikes Tuesday; Dozens Wounded
Neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem were placed on full lockdown following a chain of mass casualty terror attacks Tuesday morning. All roads leading into Jerusalem were closed effective 11 am, until further notice. The security measures came in response to a set of at least three nearly simultaneous Arab terrorist attacks that left more than 17 civilians wounded. At least five are in critical condition, and half a dozen more are seriously wounded. Dozens more are badly traumatized after the attacks which took place on Bus #78 and in two locations in the very heart of the city, on Malchei Yisrael Street. Another attempted terror attack at the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem was unsuccessful, however, and left only the terrorist dead.

News. “Israeli Jews, your numbers consist of eight million, but you will stand in this war against 13 million Palestinians – not just against hundreds of millions of Arabs, but all 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide.” Khatib also insisted that Israel is attempting to change the status quo on the Temple Mount, which Muslims claim is a holy site for them and which has been the holiest site in Judaism for thousands of years. “We have always said that Israel was digging under the Al Aqsa Mosque and it has become clear to everyone that we were right,” he said. “Israel always hid and denied that excavations under the mosque, and now everyone sees it,” Khatib said. “Israel claims that there are synagogues, museums and more. We were right all along. Israel violates the Al-Aqsa Mosque through these excavations.”

Headline: 1,400 Border Police reservists called for duty in light of security crisis
Six companies of Israeli soldiers were mobilized in Jerusalem Wednesday, as the IDF joined efforts to secure the city following an escalation in the violence there. The move is part of a slew of measures passed by the security cabinet overnight Tuesday aiming to prevent further terror attacks after the deadliest day so far in the current wave of unrest. “In accordance with the cabinet’s decision last night, as of this morning 300 IDF soldiers have already begun spreading out to provide additional security under police command,” an Israel Police spokesman said in a statement Wednesday morning. Police also began setting up checkpoints at “the exits of Palestinian villages and neighborhoods in east Jerusalem,” where most of the recent attackers have come from, a police spokeswoman said. Those police actions are intended to return security and order to all the country’s residents, the police said. The security cabinet also voted to ramp up security arrangements on Jerusalem’s public transport, where the IDF will bolster security until the Transportation Ministry enlists additional guards. Soldiers will be stationed at bus and light rail stops, as well as on buses and trains across the city.

Hezbollah has tightened security measures in Shiite-populated areas of Lebanon as the party ramps up its military presence in Syria while the Shiite holy day of Ashura nears, according to recent reports. The pro-Damascus daily As-Safir on Tuesday reported on Hezbollah’s heightened alert, saying it came amid growing fears of terrorist attacks in Lebanon following Russia’s military intervention in Syria backed by a coalition that includes the Lebanese Shiite party. “Hezbollah has tightened precautionary security procedures in certain Lebanese areas, the foremost of which is Dahiyeh,” the Lebanese daily said. It added that the new security measures had come at the same time as the party’s “widest ever participation in the Syrian war.” Pro-Hezbollah media outlets have all touted the party’s role in the “4+1 coalition” that also includes Russia, Iran, Syria and Iraq. Al-Akhbar reported that Hezbollah troops have been deploying to northwest Syria to take part in a major regime offensive, while a number of the party’s fighters, including two commanders, have been killed in recent days.

Headline: Three homemade bombs in Egypt’s Alexandria wound 2, damage train
Security officials say three homemade bombs have exploded along the railway of Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Alexandria, wounding a couple and damaging a train. Wednesday’s pre-dawn blasts are the latest sign that the restive Sinai peninsula’s Islamic insurgency has spread its reach to Egypt’s mainland. The insurgency escalated after the 2013 military overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. The officials said the bombs were spread out over a kilometer (0.6 miles) along the railway in Muharram Bek, near the city’s stadium. They wounded a man and his wife as well as dented and broke the glass of a parked train. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, which rattled windows and spread panic across downtown Alexandria. The officials requested anonymity because they are not authorized to brief reporters.

Syria Headline: Two Shells Hit Russian Embassy Compound in Damascus
Two shells hit the Russian embassy area in Syria’s capital Damascus Tuesday as scores of pro-government supporters gathered outside the compound to thank Moscow for its intervention in Syria. According to a RIA Novosti correspondent on the scene, the diplomatic mission staff are all safe. “Two mortar rounds hit the Russian Embassy compound in Damascus. Employees at the diplomatic mission were not hurt,” the Embassy employee told RIA Novosti. An eye-witness at the scene told the news agency that several shells hit close to the site of a peace rally in support of Russia’s air campaign in Syria. “The rounds struck the location where a peace demonstration was underway in support of Russian action in Syria. One shell landed outside a sports club in al-Barada, the other in the al-Adawi [districts]. Several people were injured. The site of the blasts has been cordoned off,” the witness said. Earlier on Tuesday, several mortars were fired at the Russian Embassy, two of them striking the building. According to an embassy employee, no one inside the building was injured.

Moscow is “deliberately targeting” U.S.-backed forces in Syria as part of a military campaign that has killed up to 150 U.S.-trained rebels, a U.S. official told Fox News. The claim comes as the U.S. and Russian militaries try to reach an agreement about flight safety in the skies over Syria. Officials from both countries are holding their third video conference on the issue Wednesday, as U.S.-led coalition and Russian aircraft look to avoid collisions as they launch airstrikes into Syria. But even as they try to “de-conflict,” evidence is mounting that Russia’s air campaign is targeting more than just the Islamic State. “Putin is deliberately targeting our forces,” a U.S. official, who is disappointed in the U.S. response to Russia, told Fox News. “Our guys are fighting for their lives,” said the official, estimating up to 150 CIA-trained moderate rebels have been killed by the Russians. The Obama administration recently ended its troubled program to train select Syrian rebels, but has continued to equip the opposition. Over the weekend, the U.S. military airdropped 50 tons of small arms ammo and grenades in northern Syria.

Syria Headline: Thousands of Iranian troops ‘arrive in Syria’ for Aleppo offensive
Islamic State militants battled rival insurgent groups on Wednesday north of the city of Aleppo, where officials say the Syrian army is preparing an offensive of its own backed by Iranian soldiers and Russian jets. A rebel fighter and a group monitoring the war said Islamic State fighters took control of parts of the towns of Ahras and Tel Jabin, about 12 km (8 miles) north of Aleppo, before being pushed back. Gains by Islamic State north of Aleppo would threaten the supply lines of rival rebels inside the city, which is divided between insurgents and government forces. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the road used by Aleppo residents heading north to the Turkish border remained closed on Wednesday. “Today there are fierce battles between us and Daesh in Ahras, Tel Jabin, and rural northern Aleppo,” said Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group, using another name for Islamic State. His unit is one of several foreign-backed insurgent forces which find themselves fighting Islamic State on the ground, at the same time as they are bombed by Russian jets and are bracing for further ground attacks by the army and its foreign allies. “There are mobilizations by the regime in most parts of Aleppo, particularly in Bashkoy,” he said, referring to another town north of Aleppo, which before Syria’s civil war began in 2011 was the country’s biggest city and a major commercial and industrial center. “There were advances (by Islamic State) at dawn but we were able to recover Ahras entirely. There are battles in Tel Jabin,” said Ali, speaking to Reuters via an internet messaging system. Syria Headline: Rebels fortify front line with anti-tank missiles
Syrian insurgents are deploying extensive supplies of anti-tank missiles provided by their foreign backers to counter ground attacks by the Syrian army and its allies, backed by heavy Russian airstrikes, rebel commanders said Tuesday. Two rebel commanders contacted by Reuters declined to confirm whether they had received additional missiles since the Russian airstrikes began, but said they had “excellent” supplies and were stationing them along a 30-km front to halt the ground offensive. Activists, however, said supplies had been stepped up since the Russian airstrikes began on Sept. 30. With Russian air support and help from Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iranian soldiers, with Quds Force commander Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani also believed to be in the country, the Syrian army is trying to drive rebels from western areas that are crucial to President Bashar Assad’s survival, and has recaptured several towns in the provinces of Hama and Latakia. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based group tracking the war, said a battle was in progress for control of the town of Kafr Nabouda in Hama province, which the army said it captured Monday. At least 25 fighters on the government’s side were killed, it said. The town marks the western edge of the defensive line along which the rebels have stationed a dozen anti-tank missile launch platforms, said Ahmed al-Seoud, head of the 13th Division, a foreign-backed faction fighting under the umbrella of the Free Syrian Army. “They are highly effective. They are breaking the Russian-Iranian and Syrian army.” Foreign states opposed to Assad have supplied the TOW guided missiles to a number of rebel groups via an operations room in Turkey, one of the states in the region that wants Assad gone.

Iraq Headline: Iraqi army, militia forces launch assault to retake Baiji from ISIS
The Iraqi army and volunteer militia fighters launched an assault on Wednesday to retake the city of Baiji in northern Iraq from ISIS, an Iraqi military spokesman said. Baiji is near the country’s largest oil refinery and is only 150 km (90 miles) away from Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city which fell to ISIS in June 2014. The city has since changed hands several times in fierce clashes. The Hashid Shaabi militiamen and Iraqi army soldiers began their assault from the south on Wednesday and managed to fight their way into the center of the city, military spokesman Colonel Mohammed al-Asadi said. The force was backed up by airstrikes from the U.S. and Iraqi airforce, Asadi said. An officer at the regional military command center told Reuters in July that crude oil storage tanks and pipelines at the refinery had been damaged beyond repair, while natural gas tanks and processing facilities, as well as the power station providing electricity to the refinery, had suffered damage.

At least six militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group were killed in clashes with Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) near Ain Issa town in Raqqa province, northeastern Syria, military sources reported on Tuesday. The YPG local spokesman Habun Osman told ARA News that clashes broke our in the YPG-held village of Bir Issa near Ain Issa town after a number of ISIS militants tried to infiltrate into the area coming from Raqqa city. “Our forces deterred the terrorists’ attempt to regain Bir Issa in the northern countryside of Raqqa, and the group was forced to withdraw under the blows of the YPG,” Osman said. “We have collected six corpses of ISIS terrorists following the clashes,” the source added. The YPG has also destroyed two ISIS vehicles in Tuesday’s clashes, according to Osman. Noteworthy, the Kurdish forces and some Syrian rebel factions have recently formed a new alliance under the banner “Syrian Democratic Forces”, aimed at liberating the entire province of Raqqa and other Syrian areas from ISIS extremists.

Headline: PYD Leader Warns Turkey
Turkey has warned the United States and Russia it will not tolerate Kurdish territorial gains by Kurdish militia close to its frontiers in northwestern Syria, two senior officials said.
“This is clear cut for us and there is no joking about it,” one official said of the possibility of Syrian Kurdish militia crossing the Euphrates to extend control along Turkish borders from Iraq’s Kurdistan region toward the Mediterranean coast. Turkey fears advances by Kurdish YPG militia, backed by its PYD political wing, on the Syrian side of its 900 km border will fuel separatist ambitions among Kurds in its own southeastern territories. But Washington has supported YPG fighters as an effective force in combating Daesh. “The PYD has been getting closer with both the US and Russia of late. We view the PYD as a terrorist group and we want all countries to consider the consequences of their cooperation,” one of the Turkish officials said. Turkey suspects Russia, which launched air strikes in Syria two weeks ago, has also been lending support to the YPG and PYD.

Headline: Iran’s Guardian Council passes nuclear bill into law
Iran’s Guardian Council ratified a bill on Wednesday approving the nuclear deal reached by Tehran and six world powers, state news agency IRNA and other agencies said, allowing the government to implement the agreement. Parliament on Tuesday approved the bill with a strong majority, in a victory for President Hassan Rouhani’s government over conservative opponents of the July 14 deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The Guardian Council, made up of six Muslim clerics appointed by the Supreme Leader and six lawyers elected by parliament, is charged with ensuring draft laws do not contradict religious laws or Iran’s constitution. “The majority of the Guardian Council did not find the bill… to be against religious law and the constitution,” the council’s spokesman Nejatollah Ebrahimian was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency. The exact stance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the last word on all matters of state, is not known.

Headline: Afghan travellers stranded after Taliban blocks highway
As many as 29 Afghan border police officers were killed after the Taliban overran two check points and seized weapons in southern Helmand province, an official said Wednesday. The police officers were killed after a three-day battle, when reinforcements failed to arrive, according to Bashir Ahmad Shakir, a provincial council member in Helmand province. Shakir says the Taliban initially killed 21 officers and took eight hostage, but later killed the eight prisoners. Shakir says the Nawzad district of Helmand province, where the battles took place, is a particularly volatile area that is regularly targeted by insurgents. “If reinforcements would have gotten there, the police forces could have survived,” said Shakir, who added that the Taliban fighters captured vehicles, weapons and ammunition. Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban seized the northern Afghan city of Kunduz in late September. Government troops took back much of the city three days later, and on Monday the Taliban announced the withdrawal of their last fighters.

Headline: AQIM battalion attacks Tunisian soldiers in Kasserine
The Uqba bin Nafi battalion, an al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) group that operates in Tunisia, has claimed credit for killing two Tunisian soldiers and wounding four others in the Kasserine region. The jihadist group said on its official Twitter feed that its forces attacked the Tunisian army in the Mount Chaambi area of Kasserine, resulting in “large injuries in the apostate army.” Tunisian authorities have said that the soldiers were killed “after an exchange of gunfire with terrorists.” Additionally, a local herder was kidnapped by the al Qaeda battalion. In additional tweets, the group said that it was starting a “new stage in the conflict with Tunisia and their supporters who reported the mujahideen.” It also claimed to have “finished off” several Tunisian spies in recent days, including the local herder. The attack comes almost two months after the Uqba bin Nafi battalion killed a customs agent in the Bouchebke area of Tunisia. In the initial claim of responsibility released for the Aug. 24 attack, the jihadist group said that it ambushed a number of customs agents, “killing a group of them.” It also said that it took three weapons, identified as Steyr AUG’s in photos released from the attack. In addition, the group killed four security officers near the Algerian border earlier this year. Its most deadly attack on the Tunisian military happened in the Mount Chaambi region last July, an incident that left 15 soldiers dead and 20 others wounded.

Headline: Nusra Front calls on militants in Caucasus to attack Russia
The head of Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate has called on militants in the Caucasus to attack Russian civilians and soldiers in retaliation for Moscow’s airstrikes in Syria. “If the Russian army kills the people of Syria, then kill their people. And if they kill our soldiers, then kill their soldiers. An eye for an eye,” Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, head of the Nusra Front, said in an audio recording released late Monday. He pledged that Moscow’s air war in Syria would have dire consequences for Russia. “The war in Syria will make the Russians forget the horrors that they found in Afghanistan,” Jolani said. He called on armed opposition groups to set aside their differences until both air wars had been defeated. “Delay the disputes until the demise and smashing of the Western Crusader and Russian campaign on Syrian land,” he said. Jolani has also issued bounties worth millions of dollars for the killing of Assad and the Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah. Jolani said he would pay “3 million euros ($3.4 million) for anyone who can kill Bashar Assad and end his story.” Jolani also offered “an amount of 2 million euros ($2.2 million) for whoever kills Hasan Nasrallah.”

Three blasts hit the city of Maiduguri in northeast Nigeria on Tuesday killing a number of people, locals and the Red Cross said. The “huge explosions” happened in the Ajilari Cross area of the city, which has been targeted by similar attacks twice in the last month, including on September 20 when at least 117 were killed. The previous attacks were blamed on Boko Haram Islamists, which has increasingly hit “soft” civilian targets in recent months using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices. It was not immediately clear what caused the latest blasts, which happened in quick succession from 8:10 pm (1910 GMT), said Bashir Mohammed, whose house is near the scene. “We are all confused and people are running helter-skelter,” he said. Sheriff Ahmad, a cleric in the area, said: “Many people have been killed. I don’t know how many and I don’t think anyone can tell you now.” Ahmad described seeing body parts on his house, while Hafsat Sani, a nurse at the nearby Umaru Shehu Hospital, said: “There are many houses around the area and the blasts have affected many of them.” The hospital quickly began receiving the injured while police, soldiers, the Red Cross and officials from Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were mobilised, he said. Guinea’s anti-riot police fired teargas at protesters in Conakry, the capital, on Wednesday, after they began building street barriers, Reuters said. The government called for calm before provisional election results are announced later this week. Headline: Six people killed in terrorist attack in northern Mali: Government
At least six people have lost their lives in a “terrorist attack” carried out by unknown militants in the Timbuktu region of northern Mali, the government says. The militants raided a convoy of civilian vehicles guarded by police forces in an area some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Gao, the biggest city in northern Mali, at around 7:30 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) on Tuesday, the government said in a statement. The Malian government did not specify who was traveling in the civilian vehicles and why they were being escorted by security forces. The terrorist attack with rocket-launchers caused the death of six civilians and wounded two others including a soldier,” according to the statement. A security source told AFP that the raid began when one of the vehicles hit a landmine planted by the militants. Two other vehicles arrived at the scene and were damaged before the militants “came out from their hiding place to fire on the civilians,” the source added. Three trucks hired by the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) later arrived and were set alight by the militants, according to the source.

Headline: Yemen landmines kill 5 civilians, 12 anti-rebel fighters
Yemeni officials say five civilians and 12 fighters from the forces fighting Shiite rebels known as Houthis were killed this month by rebel-planted mines in a central province. The officials, medical and security officials from the anti-rebel side, say Wednesday that the Houthis planted the mines before they were pushed out from their last outpost in Marib province last week. In Taiz province, medical and security officials say 13 Houthis and allied fighters were killed in airstrikes by a Saudi-led coalition, while fierce clashes were ongoing near the provincial capital’s airport. The officials and witnesses spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media or for fear of reprisals.

Headline: The Numbers Say That A Major Global Recession Has Already Begun
The biggest bank in the western world has just come out and declared that the global economy is “already in a recession”. According to British banking giant HSBC, global trade is down 8.4 percent so far this year, and global GDP expressed in U.S. dollars is down 3.4 percent. So those that are waiting for the next worldwide economic recession to begin can stop waiting. It is officially here. As you will see below, money is fleeing emerging markets at a blistering pace, major global banks are stuck with huge loans that will never be repaid, and it looks like a very significant worldwide credit crunch has begun. Just a few days ago, I explained that the IMF, the UN, the BIS And Citibank were all warning that a major economic crisis could be imminent. They aren’t just making this stuff up out of thin air, but most Americans still seem to believe that everything is going to be just fine. The level of blind faith in the system that most people are demonstrating right now is absolutely astounding. The numbers say that the global economy has not been in this bad shape since the devastating recession that shook the world in 2008 and 2009. But there are still a whole lot of incredibly clueless people running around out there claiming that “nothing is happening” even though more signs of trouble are erupting all around us every single day. For instance, just today CNBC published an article entitled “The US is closer to deflation than you think“, and Twitter just announced that it plan s to lay off 8 percent of its entire workforce. But of course the biggest problems are happening in “emerging markets” right now. Headline: ISIS to Execute 180 Assyrian Christians After Negotiations Break Down
The Islamic State terror group claims it will be executing 180 Assyrian Christians who were kidnapped in mass raids in February, after negotiators failed to meet the jihadists’ high asking price to free the hostages. ARA News reported on Monday that the terror group is asking for $12 million for the release of the Assyrians, a sum deemed “unbearable” for the community. “The negotiations, led by Bishop Ephrem Otnaial, head of the Church of the East in Syria, have been suspended due to the unbearable demands of the terror group,” revealed Osama Edward, director of the Assyrian Human Rights Network. “ISIS threatened to execute the 180 hostages if we didn’t pay the ransom,” he continued. A member of the Civil Peace Committee in Tel Temir, who chose to remain anonymous, said that “internal rifts” emerged among Assyrian officials about how to gather the money. The 180 Assyrians are part of a group of 230 people kidnapped by IS in February from villages in the Khabur river valley in Syria. Early in September, hopes emerged that the hostages might be freed, after IS reportedly agreed to lower its ransom demands. Syrian Catholic Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo revealed that negotiators had managed to explain to IS forces that asking for 23 million dollars to free 230 people was an impossible sum, and claimed that IS had decided to ask for “much, much less,” though he did not share the precise amount.

Headline: ENORMOUS CORONAL HOLE
A gigantic hole in the sun’s atmosphere has opened up and a broad stream of solar wind is flowing out of it. This is called a “coronal hole.” Coronal holes are places in the sun’s atmosphere where the magnetic field unfurls and allows solar wind to escape. In the image above, the sun’s magnetic field is traced by white curving lines. Outside the coronal hole, those magnetic fields curve back on themselves, trapping solar wind inside their loops. Inside the coronal hole, no such trapping occurs. Solar wind plasma is free to fly away as indicated by the white arrows. For much of the next week, Earth’s environment in space will be dominated by winds flowing from this broad hole. This should activate some beautiful Arctic auroras. NOAA forecasters estimate a 65% of polar geomagnetic storms today as Earth moves deeper into the solar wind stream.

Headline: 2 Typhoons KOPPU and CHAMPI Likely in West Pacific
Forecast models are hinting at the formation of two tropical cyclones in the west Pacific Ocean in the next 15 days. Typhoon KOPPU will form first. It is likely to be a massive cyclone. It will pass close by Guam and then swing north bypassing Japan. Typhoon CHAMPI is likely to form around October 22, 2015 in the South China Sea and hit Vietnam. These are possibilities now. We will update as things happen.
