Headline: Israel cedes to PA demand, cuts Gaza electricity by 40%
The drop in electricity is part of the PA’s push to pressure Hamas to rescind its control of Gaza. Israel’s security cabinet agreed late Sunday night to cut the electricity it sends to Gaza by 40 percent, now that the Palestinian Authority has said it intends to only pay 60% of it’s monthly bill, Army Radio reported. The 2 million people in the Hamas controlled Strip will now have only two to three hours of power a day, down from four hours of electricity they have lived on since April. On Sunday, the NGO Gisha — Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, wrote a letter to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman urging him not to further reduce power. “The diminished supply of electricity has serious and far-reaching implications: one hundred million liters of untreated sewage are pumped into the Mediterranean Sea daily,” Gisha said. “Water desalination stations cannot operate; sewage cannot be pumped away from residential areas; generators are over-extended; entire hospital wings are shut down during blackouts, and people who rely on life-saving equipment are at risk,” Gisha explained. The UN has made similar comments but has not offered an alternative. Liberman, at a meeting of Lobby for Diplomatic Vision for Gaza at the Knesset on Monday addressed this issue saying, “Hamas cannot take taxes from people of Gaza,” and “For the first time, Gaza residents realize the current crisis has no connection to Israel.” The Defense Minister added, “We have no intention to take a military step or to restrain ourselves when there are provocations. We will respond with full force. The ball is in the field of Hamas. Sinwar must decide whether his children will be shahidim hiding in tunnels or travel around the world with no fear.” June 12, 2017

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu clarified Israel’s position regarding the future of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria under a potential final status agreement with the Palestinian Authority, telling senior Trump administration officials that Jewish communities outside of the major blocs must remain under sovereign Israeli control. According to a report by the Haaretz daily on Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister told senior Trump administration officials that Israel would not accept the evacuation of tens of thousands of Jews living outside of the major “settlement blocs” likely to be annexed under a possible final status agreement with the Palestinian Authority.Netanyahu is pushing for Israel to not only leave the communities outside of the major blocs intact, but to retain Israeli control over “enclaves” of Jewish population centers surrounded by a future Palestinian state. Netanyahu has pushed the issue during talks with Trump administration officials over the past few months, the report claims, including during US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley’s trip to Israel last week. The Prime Minister reportedly told the ambassador that he is interested in pursuing a final status agreement that would allow all Jews now living in Judea and Samaria to remain in their homes. Headline: Jordan shoots dead 5 approaching its borders from Syria
Jordan’s army said on Sunday its border guards killed five people who were approaching its frontier from Tanf, a Syrian desert town where US special forces training opposition fighters are based.
The town has been a flashpoint in recent weeks, as militias backed by Iran have tried to get near the US garrison, prompting US coalition jets to strike back. Tanf lies near the strategic Damascus-Baghdad highway that was once a major weapons supply route for Iranian weapons into Syria. The Jordanian army said it destroyed a car and two motorbikes in the incident. The army statement did not give any details of the identity of the men and whether they were smugglers or militants in the area where Jordan’s northeastern borders meet both Iraq and Syria. A Saudi army major was killed and two other soldiers injured when their night patrol came under a bomb attack in the country’s eastern Qatif province, the Interior Ministry said early Monday. In a statement, the ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki described the incident as a “terror attack”, which occurred late Sunday night in the Masoura neighborhood. Al-Turki said the slain soldier was identified as Maj. Tariq Ben Abdullatif al-Alaki. The wounded are not in critical condition, he added. Saudi Arabia’s Shia-majority eastern region, especially the provinces of Qatif and Dammam, has recently seen a spate of attacks on local security personnel. June 12, 2017

Suspected al Qaeda militants launched a car-bomb and gun attack on an army camp in southeastern Yemen early on Monday, leaving at least 10 militants and two soldiers dead, a military official and residents said. The assault near the town of Baddah in oil-producing Hadramout province came after a lull in attacks by the Islamist militant group. Attackers set off two car bombs outside the camp, the official said. Residents said they also heard gunfire after two loud explosions. “Our soldiers foiled the attack and managed to secure the camp and we are still pursuing those who have escaped in nearby farms,” the official told Reuters by phone. The Syrian army and Iran-backed militia forces have escalated attacks against a rebel-held part of the southern city of Deraa, a possible prelude to a large-scale campaign to wrest full control of the city, rebels and residents said on Monday. The intensive raids and bombing strikes mainly pounded the southern part of Deraa, strategically located on the border with Jordan and where the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad erupted six years ago. The Syrian army has recently intensified dropping barrel bombs, drums or cylinders packed with shrapnel, and has fired hundreds of so-called elephant rockets on Deraa’s old quarter and a former refugee camp nearby, rebels and residents said. The army has not commented on its troop build-up in Deraa or the escalating aerial bombing. State media has long branded the rebels as foreign-backed “terrorists”. More reinforcements from the army and its allies, the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah and Shi’ite Muslim Iraqi militias, are also being rushed to the city from several locations near the capital, Damascus. Rebels say the troop build-up and relentless aerial bombing in recent weeks pointed to a major campaign for what the FSA rebels see as a decisive battle. “Everything indicates the regime is preparing for a large-scale military campaign in Deraa in which they plan to encircle the city and reach the Jordanian border,” Rayes said. Headline: US-backed Syrian fighters seize parts of Daesh ‘capital’ Raqqa
US-backed Syrian fighters said they had seized a second district of Raqqa on Sunday and launched a renewed assault on a base north of the city, as they pursued an offensive against Daesh.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that broke into Raqqa after announcing the start of a final assault on the city last week said its fighters “liberated the neighborhood of Al-Romaniya on the western front of Raqqa, after two days of continued clashes.” It was the first time the SDF was reported to have taken a western district of Daesh-held Raqqa, which its fighters are bearing down on from the east, west and north. Headline:Suspicious Iranian links to blast in Iraq’s Karbala
The blast that killed three people and injured 15 others on Friday in the Iraqi city of Karbala had an Iranian link, sources told the Arabic language of Al Arabiya News Channel, Al Arabiya.net. “After the explosion and during the investigation and inspection on Friday night, the Iraqi intelligence forces arrested five Iranians who had explosives and remote control devices at the area near the blast site, in the eastern Abbasid,” an official said on condition of anonymity. “The security forces transferred the Iranian detainees to the Karbala intelligence headquarters for interrogation,” the source said. “But minutes later dozens of Brigade Ali Akbar and Badr Organization militias supported by Iran surrounded the headquarters of the intelligence of Karbala.” The source said the militias demanded the release of the five Iranian detainees but their request was rejected by the head of intelligence, who emphasized that he will hand them back only to authorities in Baghdad. The refusal led the armed militias to break into the intelligence headquarters, where they took the five detainees and the head of the intelligence department. The militias released the head of the internal intelligence department at dawn on Saturday at about 4:30 am, but the fate of the five Iranians is still unknown, raising doubts about the involvement of Iran in the Karbala bombing. Headline: Iran Sends 2 Warships To Oman, Flies Food To Qatar
If there was any confusion on which side of the Qatar crisis Iran found itself, it was swept away today after Iran’s Tasnim news, cited by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, reported that Iran plans to send two warships to Oman on Sunday. The two ships will depart using Iran’s southern waters off the port city of Bandar Abbas for an overseas mission to the Arab Peninsula state and then on to international waters. On Sunday, the 47th flotilla, comprised of an Alborz destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, set sail from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, Tasnim reported. From Oman, the ships will then head to the Gulf of Aden and international waters north of the Indian Ocean. At the same time, Iran’s 46th flotilla consisting of a Sabalan destroyer and Lavan logistic warship, is due to return to Iran on Sunday after completing a two-month mission to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden. Separately, Reuters reported that amid food shortages after Qatar’s biggest suppliers severed ties with the import-dependent country, Iran has dispatched four cargo planes of food to Qatar and plans to provide 100 tonnes of fruit and vegetable every day. Qatar has been holding talks with Iran and Turkey to secure food and water supplies after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut links, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism. Qatar, which has claimed the terrorism-funding allegations are lies, on Friday hired John Ashcroft to serve as a PR crisis mediator in the US and to defend against terrorism accusations, for which he will be paid $2.5 million for 90 days of his time. “Following the sanctions … on Qatar, IranAir has so far transported food and vegetables to this country by four flights,” Shahrokh Noushabadi, head of public relations at Iran’s national airline, was quoted as saying by Fars news agency. The head of the industries, business and trade organization in the Fars province was also quoted by the Tasnim news agency as saying on Sunday the first planes carrying food to Qatar had flown from the southern city of Shiraz. The Pentagon on Monday released the names of the three U.S. soldiers killed in an attack by an Afghan army soldier over the weekend.The U.S. soldiers were identified as: – Sergeant Eric M. Houck, 25, of Baltimore, Maryland; Sergeant William M. Bays, 29, of Barstow, North Carolina; – Corporal Dillon C. Baldridge, 22, of Youngsville, North Carolina. The soldiers were shot Saturday in Peka Valley, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. A fourth U.S. soldier was injured in the attack. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the act. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says in a statement that a militant loyalist had infiltrated the Afghan army “just to attack foreign forces.” June 12, 2017

Thousands of Moroccans led by an Islamist movement rallied in the capital Rabat on Sunday in a massive show of support for protests against corruption and official abuses in a northern region that have tested authorities for weeks. Chanting against “ruling mafia” and carrying portraits of detained activists, protesters packed Rabat’s Bab El Hed area and marched toward the parliament, with most from the Adl Wal Ihsan (Justice and Spirituality) Islamist movement. Political unrest is rare in the North African kingdom but protests around northern city Al-Hoceima since October have been the largest since the 2011 “Arab Spring”-inspired rallies that prompted the king to cede some powers. The participation of Justice and Spirituality is significant. A major player in the 2011 protests, the movement is banned from formal politics, but is the only opposition group able to mobilize on a massive scale. “We came out to protest about the social reality in Morocco,” said Lamia, a school teacher who came from the northern city of Tetouan to the Rabat rally. “We’re here in solidarity with Al-Hoceima, to demand dignity.” Police estimated the rally was more than 10,000 strong, though Justice and Spirituality said it was much larger. It was the most significant political rally in Rabat since the 2011 unrest and smaller leftist groups and labor unions, as well as some parliamentary opposition parties, also participated. An audio message purporting to come from the spokesman of Islamic State called on followers to launch attacks in the United States, Europe, Russia, Australia, Iraq, Syria, Iran, and the Philippines during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began in late May. The audio clip was distributed on Monday on Islamic State’s channel on Telegram, an encrypted messaging application. It was attributed to the militant group’s official spokesman, Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer. The authenticity of the recording could not be independently verified, but the voice was the same as a previous audio message purported to be from the spokesman. “O lions of Mosul, Raqqa, and Tal Afar, God bless those pure arms and bright faces, charge against the rejectionists and the apostates and fight them with the strength of one man,” said al-Muhajer. Rejectionist is a derogatory term used to refer to Shi’ite Muslims. “To the brethren of faith and belief in Europe, America, Russia, Australia, and others. Venezuela’s interior ministry has taken control of the police force in the opposition-controlled state of Miranda. The ministry accused Miranda’s police of human rights violations and involvement in criminal networks. The state, governed by the opposition leader Henrique Capriles, has seen some of the biggest protests against the government of President Nicolas Maduro. Mr Capriles said the ministry’s intervention was a political attack on the state. He said the ministry was now in charge of all police activities there. “It’s clear they’ll try to use the police against the people,” he said. Mr Capriles urged the police to disobey any orders that violated the constitution. More than 60 people have been killed in anti-government protests in Venezuela over the last two months. Suicide bombers attacked two border towns and a military base in northern Cameroon over the weekend, according to local officials. The violence is part of a recent string of attacks in the border area attributed to militant group Boko Haram. Five suicide bombers crossed from Nigeria into the Mayo Sava division of northern Cameroon on Saturday, said Babila Akao, the most senior government official in that area. He told VOA by phone that the bombers were targeting the towns of Mora and Kolofata, but only two were able to detonate their vests. During an emergency security meeting the day before the attack, Akao said, soldiers and members of the local self-defense groups had been deployed to control the northern entrance to Mora from Nigeria and seal all entrances into the towns and surrounding villages, if necessary. He said the blasts claimed no victims aside from the two bombers, but many self-defense group members were wounded. He said security forces shot dead a third suicide bomber and are searching for two attackers who ran without detonating their vests.On Sunday, the government announced that another suicide bomber had blown herself up at a military base near Mora, killing one soldier. Baton-wielding riot police broke up anti-corruption protests and detained hundreds of demonstrators in Moscow and other Russian cities on Monday soon after arresting opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The protests, called by Navalny, a strong critic of Russian President Vladmir Putin, drew thousands of people and were some of the biggest in Russia since 2012. “Russia without Putin” and “Russia will be free” chanted the demonstrators, including many young people, who crowded into central Moscow on a public holiday. Navalny, who is mounting a long-shot bid to unseat Putin in an election next year, had called for mass protests in Moscow and other cities against official corruption. While many “conventional” indicators of US economic vibrancy and strength have lost their informational and predictive value over the past decade (GDP fluctuates erratically especially in Q1, employment is the lowest this century yet real wage growth is non-existent, inflation remains under the Fed’s target despite its $4.5 trillion balance sheet and so on), one indicator has remained a stubbornly fail-safe marker of economic contraction: since the 1960, every time Commercial & Industrial loan balances have declined (or simply stopped growing), whether due to tighter loan supply or declining demand, a recession was already either in progress or would start soon. And while we have repeatedly documented the sharp decline in US Commercial and Industrial loan growth over the past few months (most recently in “We Now Know “Who Hit The Brakes” As Loan Creation Crashes To Six Year Low”) as US loans have failed to post any material increase in over 30 consecutive weeks, suddenly the US finds itself on the verge of an ominous inflection point. After growing at a 7% Y/Y pace at the start of the year, which declined to 3% at the end of March and 2.6% at the end of April, the latest bank loan update from the Fed showed that the annual rate of increase in C&A loans is now down to just 1.6%, – the lowest since 2011 – after slowing to 2.3% and 1.8% in the previous two weeks. The death toll from a cholera outbreak in Yemen has risen to claim 923 lives and the disease has infected 124,000 people, Al Arabiya News Channel reported on Monday. The figures are now higher than the previous numbers provided by the World Health Organization. The WHO said on Friday that cholera killed almost 800 lives and was suspected of sickening about 100,000 people. The WHO said the number of suspected cholera cases had risen to 101,820 with 791 deaths as of June 7. In a joint statement with UNICEF, it said that children under the age of 15 account for 46 percent of the cases. June 12, 2017
Headline: Christian church DESTROYED as Chinese police drag worshippers into street and beat them
Violence broke out in Shanggiu in Henan province after 300 police officers and officials demolished the Shuangmiao Christian Church—which was under construction. Officers dragged out around 40 Christians with one worshipper comparing the brutal scenes to the Japanese invasion of China during the Second World War, according to charity China Aid. Eight Christians remain in custody following the incident amid a crackdown on churches by the communist regime. China Aid said: “During the demolition, officials beat dozens of church members, pushing them to the ground and twisting their hands. “The church was completely razed, and a church member likened the scene to the Japanese invasion of China during World War II. “Of the 40 Christians seized, eight are still in custody, and the cases of Shuangmiao Christian Church pastor Zhang Di and the church’s vice director, Lü Yuexia, were recently transferred to the Procuratorate, which will decide whether or not to formalise their arrest.”The Supreme People’s Procuratorate is the highest agency in China responsible for prosecutions. According to churchgoers Xi Jinping’s Communist Party ordered the church to be destroyed after branding the building an “illegal structure”. The battle to get rid of President Trump started during the Trump campaign. It has become very obvious the main stream media and, the Democratic Party are doing everything they possibly can to toss Trump out of office. So what is going to happen? Well, if Mark Taylor is correct everything that comes against President Trump will fail. According to Mr. Taylor God is going to use Donald Trump for His purposes. So far everything Mark Taylor has said back in 2011, about what was going to happen with Mr. Trump has in fact taken place. So, if this is a true prophecy from God every news organization and, every Democratic member who is working to oust President Trump will see all of their efforts will come to nothing.
Let me turn to another time and place where men were trying to stop the Word of God and, the men preaching the Lord’s message. The Apostle Peter is the person I am talking about. In the 5th chapter of the book of Acts verse 34 you will see one of the Pharisees by the name of Gamaliel stand up and give some sound advice to the rest of the council: and the high priest. Read verse 34. “34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;” This is what Gamaliel told them. Acts 5:38-39 “And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. All we have to do is sit down and watch the events unfold. If the Lord did speak to Mark Taylor back in 2011, that would mean that every news organization and, every Democratic member fighting against Trump in reality is fighting against God. Who in their right mind would want to fight against God? If only you could ask pharaoh, the leader of Egypt during the days of Moses if it was wise to fight against God?
Headline: Defense Minister: Closer than ‘ever before’ to agreement with Palestinians
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas could hold direct peace talks for the first time in seven years, Channel 20 said on Thursday night in a report on a three-way Washington meeting with US President Donald Trump scheduled next month. The report comes just two months after Trump began to formally work to bring Israelis and Palestinian back to the negotiating table. Since 2010, the Palestinians have refused to hold direct talks unless Israel freezes West Bank settlement activity and Jewish building in east Jerusalem. Israel has refused to cede to that demand insisting that talks should be held without preconditions. Bloomberg News on Thursday reported that the Palestinians have temporarily dropped that demand, quoting Abbas’s senior economic adviser and former deputy prime minister Muhammad Mustafa. “We have not made the settlements an up-front issue this time. We think it’s better for all of us right now to focus on giving this new administration a chance to deliver,” Mustafa told Bloomberg. The Prime Minister’s Office said it did not know anything about the Channel 20 report regarding the meeting. The reporter “did not check with us first,” a spokesman in the Prime Minister’s Office said. Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told Channel 2 that Israel was closer to a peace deal with the Palestinians than at any other time in its history. “We are closer than ever before to an agreement. I hope that we will take advantage of this opportunity,” he told Channel 2 on Thursday night. The possibility for a new agreement is due both to Trump and to a new clarification by Arab states that their problem is not Israel, Liberman said, adding that the moderate Arab nations now believe Israel could help them solve their problems. Headline: Hamas member killed, 6 wounded in clashes with IDF soldiers near Gaza border
A Hamas fighter was killed and six were wounded during clashes with IDF troops on Friday near the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. “Aeid Jumaa, 35, was killed and six other Palestinians were wounded during clashes along the Gaza border (with Israel) north of Jabalia,” the Hamas-run Interior Ministry’s spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said. The terror group issued a statement saying that Jumaa was one of its members. The group said he was killed by Israeli gunfire, a charge the IDF could not confirm. An Israeli army spokeswoman, contacted by AFP, said hundreds of Palestinian demonstrators had burned tires and been throwing stones the length of the security fence between Israel and Gaza. “Our forces had to arrest suspects to prevent damage to the security fence,” she said, but was unable to confirm the casualties from gunfire.

Headline: One missile takes out ISIS command on Golan edge
A single mystery missile, which could have been fired from the ground or the air early Wednesday morning, June 7, wiped out the entire top Islamic State command on the Syrian Golan, debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report. All 16 officers of the 2,000-strong Khaled Ibn al Waleed army, the ISIS operations arm on the Syrian Golan, were present in the targeted building in the town of al-Shagara, located in the triangle where the Israeli, Syrian and Jordanian borders meet opposite the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. The unidentified missile blew up in the middle of a hall where the top command echelon were gathered to break their daily fast during the month of Ramadan and draw up plans. None of them survived. Among them were the group’s chief, Gen. Abu Mohammed al-Makdessi; commander of operations, Gen. Abu Udai al-Homsi; and the group’s explosives expert who doubled as its religious leader, Abu Ali Shabat. They operated under these aliases to conceal their real identities as former high Iraqi army officers who served in the late Saddam Hussein’s armed forces. They were also in senior command positions at the ISIS Syrian command center in Raqqa, when ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi decided to transfer them to the Syrian Golan to spearhead attacks that were planned to take place inside Israel and Jordan. It took Al-Baghdad just a few hours to replace Magdessi as Khaled Ibn al-Waleed chief with a new man, Mohamed al-Refaei-Abu Hshem al-Askari. On Tuesday, June 6, the day before the mysterious missile decapitated the Islamic State’s Golan force, US warplanes acted on another front to bomb a convoy of Iranian, Syrian and Hizballah forces that were traveling eastward from the southern town of Derra in the direction of the Al-Tanf border crossing. Al Tanf, where US and Jordanian special forces units have established a garrison, is located in the triangle where the Syrian, Jordanian and Iraqi borders converge. The US planes destroyed several tanks, troop carriers, artillery pieces and antiaircraft systems, causing also fatalities and injuries, and so halted the convoy’s advance on the strategic crossing. This was the second US air strike in three weeks on a similar target. The first was on May 18.

Their name comes from their striking speckled appearance, conforming to the description of the flocks that Jacob took with him when he left the house of his father-in-law, Laban.Gil emphasized the importance of sheep to the people of Israel, explaining to Breaking Israel News that after the plague of darkness, Moses refused Pharaoh’s offer to leave Egypt since it did not include the sheep. “The Jews need the sheep to serve God in the Third Temple,” Gil explained. “Their wool is used in making the clothes for the kohanim (men of the priestly caste), and they are the breed that was offered up as a sacrifice in the First and Second Temples.” It is for this reason that Gil applied to the Agriculture Ministry to change the status of the sheep. For the first time, the ministry has declared a breed of sheep a protected species.

Headline: Netanyahu, Haley discuss UNIFIL mandate vs Hezbollah
Anticipating the possibility of another war in Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Wednesday with Nikki Haley, Washington’s ambassador to the UN, about a possible Security Council resolution calling for the removal of Hezbollah forces from southern Lebanon, The Jerusalem Post has learned. According to senior government officials, Netanyahu and Haley – who arrived early on Wednesday for a three-day visit – spoke about strengthening the mandate of UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, to make it more effective in enforcing Security Council Resolution 1701, which put an end to the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Under terms of that resolution, the area from the Israel-Lebanon border to the Litani River is to be an “area free of any armed personnel, assets and weapons other than those of the Government of Lebanon.” In actuality, however, Hezbollah is ensconced there with tens of thousands of missiles pointed toward Israel. One senior government official said that even if it was not realistic that UNIFIL would be able to clear Hezbollah – now a powerful political and military force in Lebanon – out of southern Lebanon, it is important for the issue to be placed before the Security Council. “If there is another conflict and we will have to hit missile launchers that are placed in private homes, it will be difficult for the Security Council to condemn us if the matter is brought to the Security Council now,” the official said. “We want to bring to the world’s attention, now, that Hezbollah is arming and using schools and hospitals to place launchers so that if there are victims in the future the world does not come to us with complaints.” Netanyahu also talked with Haley about the likelihood that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza will come before the Security Council in the near future and the need to prepare for that eventuality.

Headline: Arab diplomatic crisis deepens with new terror-related sanctions
Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf allies have targeted dozens of organizations and individuals with new terror-related sanctions — escalating a diplomatic crisis in the Middle East, particularly with Qatar. The sanctions target dozens of organizations and nearly 60 individuals with purported links to militant groups. Many of those sanctioned are from Qatar. The new sanctions come as many Gulf allies continue to single out Qatar for alleged ties to terrorist groups. Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates formally cut diplomatic ties with the small Arab nation. Headline: US Shoots Down Pro-regime Drone that Fired Upon Coalition Forces in Syria
A U.S. military aircraft shot down an armed, pro-Syrian government drone Thursday after it fired upon U.S.-led coalition members on patrol in southern Syria, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition said. The incident was the first time that pro-regime forces attempted to strike coalition forces in the area surrounding al-Tanf, an army base where members of the coalition are training Syrians to fight Islamic State, U.S. Army Colonel Ryan Dillon told reporters at the Pentagon by video call from Baghdad. Local counter-Islamic State fighters were patrolling with coalition troops about 60 kilometers east of al-Tanf base when the drone, similar in size to an MQ-1 Predator, launched a munition that failed to detonate, multiple officials told VOA. “It hit dirt; it didn’t hit any coalition forces,” Dillon said, adding that the munition caused no casualties and no damage to equipment, but was “clearly meant as an attack.” Another U.S. military official told VOA that American troops were part of the targeted patrol.

Headline: US-backed force advances in fight for Daesh-held Raqqa
US-backed Syrian fighters Friday seized part of a district on the western edge of the Daesh group’s Raqqa bastion and battled to advance inside the city’s east, a monitor said. The Kurdish-Arab alliance known as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) broke into Raqqa city for the first time earlier this week, months after they launched an operation to capture the jihadist stronghold. They are backed by the US-led coalition which carried out heavy air strikes on Raqqa and its surroundings overnight and into Friday. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said SDF fighters took parts of the suburb of Jazra just west of Raqqa’s city limits on Friday. The monitor said heavy clashes were continuing in other parts of the neighborhood, where at least 15 civilians were killed on Thursday night in the air strikes that hit an Internet cafe. The casualties in Jazra were among 23 civilians killed in over two dozen US-led coalition strikes on and near Raqqa on Thursday night, the Observatory said. SDF spokesman Talal Sello said fighters were advancing on several fronts on Friday. “The SDF has control of Al-Meshleb district (inside eastern Raqqa) and is clearing it of mines and explosives at the moment,” he told AFP. He said SDF forces had also advanced on the northern front outside the city. Al-Meshleb was the first neighborhood in Raqqa city entered by SDF fighters.

Headline:Suicide bomber kills at least 31 in crowded Iraqi market
A woman suicide bomber killed at least 31 people and wounded 35 in a crowded market in the town of Musayab, 80 km (50 miles) south of Baghdad, on Friday, security sources said. Islamic State claimed the attack, as well as one at the main bus station in the Shi’ite holy city of Kerbala, just west of Musayab, which killed three people and wounded 15. A security officer said the bomber in Musayab was a woman and had hidden the bomb under her full-body veil. Islamic State’s statements identified both bombers as men.

Headline:Iraq’s Kurdish leaders uses Twitter to announce independence referendum in September
Iraq’s self-governing Kurdish region announced on June 7 it will hold a referendum on independence, a move opposed by the nation’s ruling Shi’ite coalition. “I am pleased to announce that the date for the independence referendum has been set for Monday, Sept. 25, 2017,” Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani said on Twitter.The Kurds said the referendum will include disputed areas claimed by Kurdistan, but not recognized as part of the autonomous region by the central government, Barzani aide Hemin Hawrami said. Hawrami said the question put to voters would be “do you want an independent Kurdistan?” The president of Iraq’s ruling Shi’ite coalition told Reuters in April it would oppose a Kurdish referendum. Ammar al-Hakim especially warned the Kurds against any move to annex oil-rich Kirkuk.

Headline:Car bomb in southeast Turkey wounds three people: governor’s office
Two soldiers and a civilian were wounded when a car bomb exploded outside a gendarmerie station in Turkey’s southeastern province of Batman on Friday, the local governor’s office said. The bomber was a suspected Kurdish militant who drove a stolen car through a police checkpoint and blew it up in front of the station in the Bekirhan district, the governor’s office said. The bomber was killed in the attack, it said, without elaborating. No one immediately claimed responsibility, although the governor’s office said the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) was believed to be responsible. Two PKK militants had stolen the car hours before and had then opened fire on a car belonging to the local mayor, who was not in the vehicle at the time, the governor’s office said. A teacher in a separate vehicle was killed in the gunfire and a bystander was wounded, it said. Separately, two Turkish soldiers were killed and three were wounded in clashes with PKK militants at a military outpost in the southeastern province of Sirnak, security sources said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has approved legislation for increased military cooperation with Qatar, including a deal for the deployment of Turkish troops there. The move is a sign of support for the Gulf state in its dispute with its regional neighbors. The legislation, which also foresees cooperation in military training, was rapidly passed in parliament on Wednesday, a day after Erdogan openly sided with Qatar and criticized other Gulf countries’ moves to isolate it. Erdogan approved the legislation late on Thursday, his office said. It was published in the Official Gazette on Friday. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and other Arab nations cut off relations with Qatar after accusing it of supporting terrorism. Turkey and Qatar have developed close ties over the years and reached an agreement in 2014 to set up a Turkish military base in the tiny Gulf nation. Government officials said the military would decide on the number of Turkish troops that would be deployed in Qatar and the length of their stay.

Iranian leaders on Friday accused the United States and Saudi Arabia of supporting the Islamic State-claimed dual attacks that killed 17 people in Tehran this week, as thousands of Iranians attended a funeral ceremony for the victims. “Death to America,” “Death to the Saud” ruling family, and “We are not afraid,” shouted the crowd gathered behind a lorry bearing the coffins of 15 of the 17 people killed in Wednesday’s attacks. Burials were held in the provinces for the two others killed when gunmen and suicide bombers stormed Tehran’s parliament complex and the shrine of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Fifty people were wounded. An Israeli flag appeared alongside the US and Saudi flags in a poster during the ceremony displaying all three dripping with read ink, ostensibly meant to symbolize blood.

Headline: South Sudan rebels claim responsibility for deadly convoy attack
South Sudan’s rebels have claimed responsibility for an ambush on a convoy of buses and other vehicles traveling on a major highway that killed at least 14 people, the opposition said on Friday. Gunmen attacked the convoy as it drove towards Juba on a highway linking the South Sudan capital with Nimule, on the southern border with Uganda. Rebel troops were targeting government troops although civilians were killed in the crossfire, opposition spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel told Reuters, warning the public not to travel with soldiers. “We are taking the responsibility (for) the ambush. We targeted government groups, those who are escorting the civilians,” Gabriel said, adding that all the government vehicles in the convoy were destroyed. Gabriel said its fighters killed 40 people, including at least two colonels, in an attack that included the use of rocket-propelled grenades. But South Sudanese police spokesman Daniel Justin Boulogne said 14 people had been killed, without giving details of whether they were soldiers, civilians or both.

Headline: Teen, soldier killed after protests in Venezuela
A teenager and a national guardsman were killed this week after another round of violent protests in the Venezuelan capital Caracas. Anti-government protesters blamed soldiers from the government of President Nicolas Maduro for the death of Neomar Lander, 17, who had joined the march against Maduro’s government. Protesters said Lander died when a government soldier fired a tear gas canister directly into Lander’s chest. Video immediately after the teen was injured showed rescue workers attempting to revive Landers to no avail. As has frequently been the case in nearly 70 protest-related deaths, the official government conclusion blamed the opposition. Venezuelan rights ombudsman William Tarek Saab, a member of Maduro’s government, said the teen died when a homemade explosive detonated in his hand. He said autopsy results showed the teen did not die due to being struck by a tear gas canister.

Headline: Al-Shabab fighters storm military base in Somalia
Somalia’s militant Islamist group al-Shabab says it has carried out a major assault on a military base in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland. Its fighters killed 61 government troops and seized 16 vehicles in the dawn raid, the group said. A Puntland government minister has denied the high death toll, but did not give separate casualty figures. In the the latest attack, the militants withdrew after more than three hours of fighting with government forces, residents told the BBC. The attack took place on the base near the remote Galgala Mountains, about 70km (43 miles) from the port city of Bosaso. Confirming the attack, Puntland Security Minister Abdiaziz Hirsi said that an investigation was under way and details would be given later. The Galgala Mountains are a stronghold of al-Shabab, but a faction of militants broke away in 2015 to affiliate themselves with the Islamic State group.

Headline: Three peacekeepers killed in northern Mali attack: UN
Three UN peacekeepers were killed and eight others wounded when they came under sustained attack in Kidal in Mali’s troubled north, the UN said Friday. The UN mission in Mali, MINUSMA, began work in 2013, providing security and assisting Malian troops struggling to keep the country safe. It has been targeted constantly by militants, with dozens of peacekeepers killed. On Thursday the UN camp “came under heavy rocket/mortar fire” and “a little later a position nearby was attacked” outside their base, the UN mission said in a statement. The three peacekeepers were killed in the second incident. Their last attack killed two peacekeepers on May 23 near Aguelhok, near the border with Algeria, while a Liberian peacekeeper was killed earlier in May close to Timbuktu. Both attacks were claimed by a powerful militant alliance, the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM), a fusion of three Malian militant groups with previous Al-Qaeda links. France on Tuesday asked the UN Security Council to authorize the deployment of a five-nation African military force to fight militants in the Sahel region, with its base in Mali. The force will be under a separate command from MINUSMA and France’s own counter-terror force in the Sahel region, but will be backed by the UN and the EU.

Headline: ISIS claims killing of Chinese hostages in Pakistan
The Islamic State terror group has claimed that it had killed two Chinese hostages, including a woman, who were abducted by armed gunmen from Pakistans restive Balochistan province recently. The hostages were studying Urdu language at a local teaching center in the provincial capital of Quetta when they were forcibly kidnapped by unknown gunmen last month. Another Chinese woman had escaped the abduction. The ISIS on its propaganda news agency Amaq uploaded a statement in Arabic yesterday, saying it had killed the two abducted Chinese nationals. Confirming reports of the killing of its nationals, China today said the murders have not been connected to China- Pakistan Economic Corridor but asserted that such risks are unavoidable as its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) goes global. China had worked closely with Pakistan to rescue them but “the two may have unfortunately been killed”, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in Beijing, stating that Pakistan has informed China about their deaths. This incident will not have any connection with the BRI, nor with the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting being held in Astana, Hua said.

North Korea fired what appeared to be several land-to-ship missiles off its east coast on Thursday, South Korea’s military said, a day after the South postponed full deployment of a controversial U.S. anti-missile system designed to deter a North Korean attack. The launches, the latest in a fast-paced series of missile tests by North Korea defying world pressure to rein in its weapons program, come less than a week after the United Nations Security Council passed fresh sanctions on the reclusive state. South Korea on Wednesday said it will hold off on installing remaining components of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system that has angered North Korea’s main ally, China, amid early signs of easing tensions between the two countries. U.S. President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed the Korean situation, including THAAD, at the White House on Thursday, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told a news briefing. North Korea missile launches showed that THAAD was “important to, not only to protect U.S. forces, to protect our alliance and to … help to further strengthen the region,” Nauert said. “We are aware, certainly, of the situation and the suspension of additional launchers,” she said. “We would continue to say that THAAD was an alliance decision at the time, and we continue to work closely with (South Korea) throughout their process.”

Legendary investor Jim Rogers sat down with Business Insider CEO Henry Blodget on this week’s episode of “The Bottom Line.” Rogers predicts a market crash in the next few years, one that he says will rival anything he has seen in his lifetime. Following is a transcript of the video.
Blodget: One of the things I’ve always admired about you as an investor is that you don’t talk about what should be. You figure out what is going to be and then you do that. So what is going to be with respect to the stock market? What’s going to happen?
Rogers: Well, it’s interesting because these things always start where we’re not looking. In 2007, Iceland went broke. People said, ‘Iceland? Is that a country? They have a market?’ And then Ireland went broke. And then Bear Stearns went broke. And Lehman Brothers went broke. They spiral like that. Always happens where we’re not looking. I don’t know. It could be an American pension plan that goes broke and many of them are broke, as you know. It could be some country we’re not watching. It could be all sorts of things. It could be war. Unlikely to be war but it’s going to be something. When you’re watching Business Insider and you see, ‘That’s so interesting. I didn’t know that company could go broke.’ It goes broke. Send me an email and then I’ll start watching.
Blodget: And how big a crash could we be looking at?
Rogers: It’s going to be the worst in your lifetime.
Blodget: I’ve had some pretty big ones in my lifetime.
Rogers: It’s going to be the biggest in my lifetime and I’m older than you. No, it’s going to be serious stuff. We’ve had financial problems in America — let’s use America — every four to seven years, since the beginning of the republic. Well, it’s been over eight since the last one. This is the longest or second longest in recorded history, so it’s coming. And the next time it comes — you know, in 2008, we had a problem because of debt. Henry, the debt now — that debt is nothing compared to what’s happening now. In 2008, the Chinese had a lot of money saved for a rainy day. It started raining. They started spending the money. Now, even the Chinese have debt and the debt is much higher. The federal reserves, the central bank in America, the balance sheet is up over five times, since 2008. It’s going to be the worst in your lifetime, my lifetime too. Be worried.

When was the last time we in America saw a 90-0 vote in the Senate? When you read the report from the Jerusalem Post below that is exactly what you will see! Let’s think about this. Didn’t the Lord warn us in Zechariah that Jerusalem would become a burdensome stone for the world? Yes He did! Now what drives the Muslims crazy? When ever there is talk about messing with the Temple Mount area or, moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem the Muslims are immediately manifested in a wild or aggressive way. Why? Because any move on the Mount or, to Jerusalem is perceived by the Muslims as a possible takeover and, if you have been following the news you know that is something the Muslims won’t stand for.
Now we have to ask ourselves why would the whole world come against Jerusalem as warned by the Lord? Could such a move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem be enough to start a war? It may be called the City of Peace, but no other city has been more bitterly fought over than Jerusalem. In the past 4,000 years it has seen at least 118 conflicts. It has been razed at least twice, has been besieged 23 times, and has had at least five separate periods of violent terrorist attacks in the past century. So, the answer to the question is yes, a move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem could set off another war.
One thing is very clear. No matter what the reason Jerusalem has already become a burdensome stone from much of the world and before it is all said and done the Zechariah warning will fully come to pass.
If you have been coming to my prophecy site on a regular bases you would have seen the countless reports concerning the Jews wanting to rebuild their Temple on the Temple Mount. Over the years when the Jews tried to move closer to the Temple Mount to preform their services the Muslims went nuts and, the police had to step in and stop the violence. Each year the Jewish Sanhedrin continue to push for the same rights for the Jews on the Temple Mount as the Muslims currently have. I am sure the Jewish reenactment of the Temple First Fruits Offering up-set the Muslims. Keep in mind Jesus told us that in the last days the Jews would again build that Temple and start their sacrifices again. Not sure if you know this but, the government of Israel gave permission for the Jews to practice their animal sacrifices. In the second photo below you will see the sheep were presented by the Kohanim. The Kohanim are the Jewish Priests who do the actual slaughtering. Everything you are seeing here is a prelude to the actual fulfillment of Christ’s warnings. I believe that the Temple Mount issue and Jerusalem as the Capital are issues that will at the end of the day cause the whole world to come after Israel as warned.

Carrillo, Zion’s CEO. “It has been a complicated and difficult multi-year journey to get to this point, but our entire team is very excited to see this project finally come to fruition.” The company proudly states that it has been divinely blessed to have merited the privilege of “drilling for Israel’s political and economic independence.” Its website states that it is inspired by Genesis 49,25-26 and Deuteronomy 33,13-16. These verses speak of the physical and geographic blessings given to Joseph, son of the Patriarch Jacob – whose inheritance in the Land of Israel lies largely in the Jezreel Valley.

It is time to translate this truth into a fact.”Speaking of the historic ties between Israel and Italy, the President said, “The lines between Rome and Jerusalem go back many centuries. This connection has shaped both sides, and both cultures, in many ways. Back then, the connection was one of tragedy and violence. In recent years, however, the relationship between Israel and Italy has become very close.”

Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi-led fighter jets seized control of a military camp in the southern city of Taiz as other forces are now engaging in fierce battles with Iran-backed Al Houthis inside the city’s presidential palace, army commanders and residents said on Monday. Brigadier General Abdo Abdullah Majili, a Yemeni army spokesperson, told Gulf News that government forces secured their grip on Al Tashrefat military camp north of Taiz and began defusing a large number of landmines planted by the fleeing Al Houthis. “By taking control of Al Tashrefat military camp, the national army forces would be able to cut military reinforcements to Al Houthi fighters in different locations.” Shortly after storming the camp, government forces staged two simultaneous attacks on Al Houthi-held Special Security Forces camp and some parts of the presidential palace compound that are remained under Al Houthi fighters’ control. Majili said that fighting raged on Monday inside the presidential palace where some Al Houthi fighters were hiding, adding that the rebel forces had sent military vehicles and new fighters to Taiz to reinforce their besieged troops. “Government forces seizure of Al Tashrefat military camp would help in winning the battle in the presidential palace,” Majili said. The camp is close to the presidential palace.

Headline: US-backed Syrian forces seize dam west of Raqqa from Daesh — SDF
US-backed Syrian militias said they seized a major dam on the Euphrates River from the Daesh extremists on Sunday, their latest gain as they push towards Raqqa city. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters, said they captured the Baath Dam in the morning, renaming it Freedom Dam. The hydroelectric facility lies 22 kilometres upstream of Raqqa, where the Daesh group’s operations in Syria are based. The spokesman for the Kurdish YPG militia, the SDF’s key component, said fighters were combing nearby villages for mines and shoring up their defensive lines. “The dam has been completely liberated,” Nouri Mahmoud said. The advance means the SDF now hold all three major dams along the Euphrates, after gaining control of Syria’s largest dam last month. With air strikes and special forces from the US-led coalition, the SDF have been encircling Raqqa, which Daesh has used as a hub to plan attacks abroad. The operation to storm the city will start in the next “few days”, Mahmoud said on Saturday. The Raqqa assault will pile more pressure on the extremist group’s self-declared “caliphate” as it faces defeat in the Iraqi city of Mosul and retreats across much of Syria. The Daesh group still controls swathes of Syria’s eastern desert bordering Iraq and most of Deir Ezzor province, which would be its last major foothold in Syria after losing Raqqa.

Shiite paramilitaries have captured the Iraqi town of Baaj from the Daesh terror group, further shrinking the northern region under extremist control as part of a US-backed campaign to retake the city of Mosul, the Iraqi military said on Sunday. Eight months into the Mosul offensive, Daesh militants have been dislodged from all of the city except an enclave along the western bank of the Tigris River.Daesh’s grip on the Iraqi side of the northern region along the border with Syria, a desert area where Iraqi and US sources believe Daesh leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi is hiding, has been ebbing as forces fighting on the side of Iraq’s government have advanced. The Iraqi air force provided cover for the thrust into Baaj of the Shiite paramilitaries known as Popular Mobilisation, said a statement from the Iraqi joint operations command.

Headline: Germany, Turkey fail to break deadlock over air base visit
Turkey on Monday refused to budge on its refusal to let German lawmakers visit troops stationed at a Turkish air base, a stance that left NATO ally Germany on the verge of a likely decision to move those troops to Jordan.Speaking after a meeting with his German counterpart that was widely viewed as the last chance to resolve an impasse over the visits, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called for “positive steps” on Turkey’s requests for Germany to crack down on Kurdish rebels and alleged coup plotters. Cavusoglu said Turkey would allow German legislators to visit a NATO base in the central province of Konya, but not Incirlik Air Base, where about 270 German troops are stationed with Tornado reconnaissance jets and a refueling plane.

Headline: U.S. and Iran-Backed Troops Head for Confrontation at al-Tanf on Iraq-Syria Border
The United States military is increasing its “combat power” in southern Syria around the American military training camp in al-Tanf, a Syrian town on the border with Iraq, on the Syrian side of Iraq’s al-Waleed border crossing. The military buildup is in response to the approach of Iran-backed Shia forces from Iraq and the Syrian regime. Some unconfirmed reports indicate that the Shia forces are backed by Russian paratroopers.Col. Ryan Dillon, a US military spokesman said:We have increased our presence and our footprint and prepared for any threat that is presented by the pro-regime forces. Dillon said of the Iranian-backed forces being massed, “We see that as a threat.” There are 150 US troops in the al-Tanf base. There is already been one deadly confrontation, as we reported two weeks ago. A pro-Syrian regime convoy was headed in the direction of the al-Tanf camp. US warplanes were scrambled in a “show of force” to dissuade the convoy from proceeding further. That show of force was only partially successful, as five of the vehicles continued approaching the base. In response, American warplanes launched a series of airstrikes against the military convoy, destroying all the vehicles. It’s not known whether there were any casualties. It has believed that the militia forces in the convoy were not from the regular Syrian army, but were Shia militias coming either directly from Iraq or from Iran or from Iran’s puppet Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

Headline: 22-year-old Venezuelan burned in protest dies from injuries
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said 22-year-old Orlando José Figuera, who was set on fire last month during a protest, has died from his injuries. Venezuela’s Ministry of People’s Power for Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace said 80 percent of Orlando José Figuera’s body sustained first- and second-degree burns after he was attacked by “terrorist groups” in Caracas’ Altamira neighborhood on May 20. During a televised address on Sunday, Maduro said Figuera died on Saturday. The embattled leader blamed the political opposition — to whom he referred as “fascist groups in the right” — for Figuera’s death. Though there have been some demonstrations in support of Maduro’s regime in over two months of protests, most are anti-government demonstrations decrying the country’s economic collapse under Maduro’s government and what the opposition says is the deterioration of democracy.

A bomb planted in a police station killed at least one policeman in Somalia’s southern port city of Kismayu on Monday, and militant Islamist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility. “A policeman died and several others were injured after a bomb blast. We are investigating the cause of the blast,” Hassan Nur, a policeman, told Reuters by phone. Al-Shabab said the toll was higher. “We planted a bomb inside a police station in Kismayu. We killed four policemen and wounded 27 others,” its military operations spokesman Abdiasis Abu Musab said.

Headline: Saudi National Guard brigade posted on Qatar border
Iran – long at odds with Saudi Arabia and a behind-the-scenes target of the move – immediately blamed US President Donald Trump for setting the stage during his recent trip to Riyadh. Gulf Arab states and Egypt have already long resented Qatar’s support for Islamists, especially the Muslim Brotherhood which they regard as a dangerous political enemy. The co-ordinated move, with Yemen and Libya’s eastern-based government joining in later, created a dramatic rift among the Arab nations, many of which are in OPEC. Announcing the closure of transport ties with Qatar, the three Gulf states gave Qatari visitors and residents two weeks to leave. Qatar was also expelled from the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen. Oil giant Saudi Arabia accused Qatar of backing militant groups – some backed by regional arch-rival Iran – and broadcasting their ideology, an apparent reference to Qatar’s influential state-owned satellite channel al Jazeera. “(Qatar) embraces multiple terrorist and sectarian groups aimed at disturbing stability in the region, including the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS (Islamic State) and al-Qaeda, and promotes the message and schemes of these groups through their media constantly,” Saudi state news agency SPA said. It accused Qatar of supporting what it described as Iranian-backed militants in its restive and largely Shi’ite Muslim-populated Eastern region of Qatif and in Bahrain. Qatar said it was facing a campaign aimed at weakening it, denying it was interfering in the affairs of other countries. “The campaign of incitement is based on lies that had reached the level of complete fabrications,” the Qatari foreign ministry said in a statement. Iran saw America pulling the strings.

Seven people were killed and dozens more injured in a “brutal terrorist attack” in London Saturday night after assailants used a vehicle to plow into pedestrians on London Bridge and attacked others with knives in nearby Borough Market, officials said. Three suspects were shot and killed in the wake of the carnage and all were wearing fake suicide belts, police said. A total of 50 rounds were fired, and one bystander was hit by bullets, police said. “There is far too much tolerance of extremism in our country,” U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May said at a press conference Sunday morning, calling the carnage a “brutal terrorist attack.”On Sunday, 36 victims remained in the hospital, 21 of them in critical condition, police said. Some of those injured are foreign nationals, according to authorities. Police said they responded to reports of a vehicle striking pedestrians on London Bridge around 10:08 p.m. local time. “The vehicle continued to drive from London Bridge to Borough Market,” Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said. “The suspects then left the vehicle and a number of people were stabbed.” Armed officers confronted the three male suspects, who were shot and killed by authorities in Borough Market, Rowley said. It was eight minutes, from the moment police were notified about the attack to when the three men were killed, Rowley said.

Headline: Marawi siege raises concern about regional base for Daesh
Militants holed up in a southern Philippines town stocked weapons and food in mosques, tunnels and basements to prepare for a long siege, officials said on Monday as the battle for control of Marawi City came to the end of its second week. Their comments underlined the level of organization among fighters linked to the Daesh group, whose ranks of several hundred included foreigners from Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, Chechnya and Morocco. The battle for Marawi City has raised concerns that the ultra-radical Daesh is building a Southeast Asia base on the island of Mindanao at the southern end of the Philippines. Parrying questions on why the fighters had been able to resist an onslaught from the Philippines army for so long, senior officers said the main problem was that 500-600 civilians were still trapped in the urban heart of the town. Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte said on Saturday that Marawi City would be fully liberated within three days, but on Monday officials were more circumspect on the timing and gave conflicting estimates of how many combatants were holding out. Major General Carlito Galvez, head of the military command in Western Mindanao region, said as many as 200 fighters from the Maute militant group and others were still inside the town, and had made preparations in advance for a drawn-out standoff.

Headline: Japan Holds Evacuation Drills Amid Growing Concerns Over North Korea’s Missile Tests
The Japanese are no longer taking any chances against the rogue North Korean regime and Kim Jong-Un’s insistence on the continued testing of ballistic missiles. Japan is now participating in more frequent evacuation drills in the event that they are attacked by North Korea. Although drills of this type aren’t the first in Japan this year, they are increasing in frequency. Sunday’s evacuation drill in the town of Abu, Yamaguchi prefecture, is showing how concerned the Japanese are about a potential North Korean attack. The town of about 3,500 people some 760 km (475 miles) west of Tokyo involved a simulated North Korean missile attack. And more Japanese towns and cities are taking steps to brace for what they hope will never happen. North Korea has been increasing the number of its missile test launches in recent months. Launching 12 so far this year and three last month, with many splashing into the Sea of Japan, the Japanese are rightly concerned. Some of North Korea’s missiles have even landed inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, which extends up to 200 miles from its shores. Tokyo has repeatedly condemned the test launches, which are in violation of United Nations resolutions, yet it’s become clear that North Korea’s volatile leader, Kim Jong-Un doesn’t care about the rules imposed upon him. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government earlier this year instructed municipalities to hold evacuation drills, heightening a sense of urgency among the public. Although security experts in Japan have said that the drills won’t save everyone, they could save some, and that’s better than not having a plan. “It’s hard to say how many people will be saved and how much effect it will have. But, with awareness raised and basic procedure understood, the survival rate will definitely be higher,” retired Vice Admiral Yoji Koda said. The Japanese government is actively attempting to help the public prepare for the worst by putting on its website a list of tips in case a missile lands in Japanese territory. The tips include “take shelter in a robust building nearby” and “move away from windows or, if possible, move to a room without windows.” The government has previously stated that the Japanese public would only have ten minutes to react if North Korea launches a missile their way – minus the few minutes it would take for the government to alert the public to the attack.

While much of China’s H7N9 activity has shifted north to Shaanxi, Beijing, and Inner Mongolia, we continue to see scattered cases in the south – and on Friday the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s HFPC reported a human infection in Baise City, roughly 60 miles from the Vietnamese border. During the first four yearly epidemics of H7N9, Guangxi reported a total of only 3 human infections. During this 5th epidemic wave, which began last October, Guangxi has now reported 27 cases. Given their porous border, and (often illicit) cross border poultry trade with China, Vietnam has watched this increased H7N9 activity in neighboring Guangxi with growing alarm (see Vietnam Girds Against H7N9 and Vietnam Girds Against H7N9 As H5N1 Spreads.

Headline: Drug Deaths in America Are Rising Faster Than Ever
Drug overdose deaths in 2016 most likely exceeded 59,000, the largest annual jump ever recorded in the United States, according to preliminary data compiled by The New York Times. The death count is the latest consequence of an escalating public health crisis: opioid addiction, now made more deadly by an influx of illicitly manufactured fentanyl and similar drugs. Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of death among Americans under 50. Although the data is preliminary, the Times’s best estimate is that deaths rose 19 percent over the 52,404 recorded in 2015. And all evidence suggests the problem has continued to worsen in 2017. Because drug deaths take a long time to certify, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will not be able to calculate final numbers until December. The Times compiled estimates for 2016 from hundreds of state health departments and county coroners and medical examiners. Together they represent data from states and counties that accounted for 76 percent of overdose deaths in 2015. They are a first look at the extent of the drug overdose epidemic last year, a detailed accounting of a modern plague. The initial data points to large increases in drug overdose deaths in states along the East Coast, particularly Maryland, Florida, Pennsylvania and Maine. In Ohio, which filed a lawsuit last week accusing five drug companies of abetting the opioid epidemic, we estimate overdose deaths increased by more than 25 percent in 2016.
