We know Jesus warns us that in the last days the Antichrist would come. Since being in the ministry all these years I have seen a host of people who people call the Antichrist and over the years all of these people turned out not to be the Antichrist. The latest person to be added to that list is President Obama. There is a new news report pointing out that after Obama leaves office in 2016 he want to be the Head of the UN. At this point nothing can be confirmed for sure. Even if later on we see that this story is true it does not mean that Obama is in fact the Antichrist. The Antichrist of the Bible is someone who will come on the scene and the world will fall in love, a man with great powers, a wise man that we have never seen before of course that excludes Jesus because there is no person who even come close to our Lord’s wisdom! The Bible tells us what the Antichrist is going to do so if you wait and watch the news if Obama were the Antichrist you would see that things God warned about come to pass via Obama.
What is the first thing you should look for? In Daniel chapter 9 God shows us the Antichrist will make a covenant with Israel and many nations for a period of 7 years. I can’t see Obama doing any such thing as Israel disdains Obama and, as you will see from the report below Israel’s Prime Ministry has according to this report stated vowed to counter the Obama campaign to head the UN. So at least at this point I can’t see Israel taking any type of peace agreement with Obama in the near future. For the past 7 years the world have watch Obama fail on the world scene. He has failed to bring in any type of peace which by the way the Bible shows that when the real Antichrist comes he will bring on peace. Here are some reasons why I do not believe Obama that man of sin.
The Bible has many references to Assyria playing a major role in the end times. The Antichrist is called the Assyrian by Isaiah many times and by Micah as this man coming from the land of Assyria which will be the land to be devastated during the return of Jesus Christ to save Israel from the invasion of the Assyrian (Micah 5:5-6). This man of sin is also known to us in Isa. 14:4 as the “King of Babylon” . The nations God points to in these prophecies are the nations that were in power in the Old Testament and they would be the same nations that the world would see the Antichrist come out of. Many want you to believe that America is Babylon and Obama is from this modern day Babylon. Even if that was the case which it is not Obama is not from Syria nor from Babylon as shown to us in the Old Testament. Remember where Obama said he was from? Kenya! That alone would x him out of the prophecy picture as seen my Micah and Isaiah. Friends, where God speaks of Syria and Babylon that is who He means. These are the same nations of the Old Testament in the same places. The only difference is the leaders have changed over these many years. When the Antichrist comes he will come out of the Middle East from the nations God shows us.
In short, let us keep on the watch to see the signs Jesus left us concerning the Antichrist. Keep in mind, any new peace plan any man makes with Israel and the many nations has to be for a period of 7 years or it would not fit the warning God gave Daniel. As for me, Obama just doesn’t fit those warnings God left us concerning the man of sin.
Headline: Claims Obama Wants to Be Next UN Secretary General
Al –Jarida, an Arabic language Kuwaiti magazine, published an article on Friday claiming that US President Barack Obama has set his sights on becoming the next Secretary General of the United Nations when he leaves the Oval Office in one year.
If true, and if he succeeds in this endeavor, Obama would be replacing the present Secretary General, South Korea’s Ban Ki-Moon, who is serving his second five-year term in the position. Ban’s term as Secretary General is set to end December 31, 2016, coincidentally 21 days before Obama’s second term as President ends. Al-Jarida attributed the rumor to “informed sources”.
The article also claimed that upon hearing of President Obama’s plans, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu “vowed to counter his campaign.” They quoted Netanyahu as saying, “Eight years of Obama’s judgments and marginalizing Israel was not enough? Now he wants to be in a position to cause us trouble in the international forum?”
Al-Jarida was credited with starting a wildfire of rumors in the international press when it printed a story in March, quoting an Israeli source, that Obama halted an airstrike by Israel against targets in Iran by threatening to shoot down the Israeli bombers. The story was picked up by media around the world, but was quelled when the White House denied there was any basis to the story.

Headline: Report: Israeli air force strikes Hezbollah in Qalamoun, Syria
Syrian opposition sources claim the Israeli air force conducted airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in the mountainous Qalamoun region, along the border with Lebanon. The alleged strikes were first reported by Syrian opposition outlet 7alpress, which claimed on Twitter that “two consecutive Israeli raids” targeted Hezbollah positions outside the town of Flita late Sunday night. A subsequent report added that ambulance sirens were heard in Yabrud, southeast of Flita, “after Israeli aircraft targeted Hezbollah’s positions.” Lebanon’s Now. news site cited several other rebel sources, some of whom said they counted as many as five strikes by aircraft on Hezbollah targets. Other Lebanese media sources also reported on “unidentified” explosions in the area. Israel is believed to have repeatedly struck Hezbollah positions and weapons convoys in Syria, as part of efforts to prevent the Iranian proxy group obtaining “game-changing” sophisticated weaponry, as well as to thwart attacks by Hezbollah and affiliated terrorist groups along the Golan Heights border with Israel. The last reported Israeli air strike in Syria eliminated arch-terrorist Samir Kuntar, a one-time Hezbollah commander who was reportedly drafted by Iranian special forces to set up anti-Israel terror cells in southern Syria. However, Israeli government officials have never commented openly about the strikes, as part of the government’s policy of ambiguity regarding operations in the civil war-torn country.

Jordan has been selected to establish an international judicial committee to inspect Israel’s “violations” on the Temple Mount, the Amman-based daily Al-Rai reported on Sunday. This role was assigned to Jordan, which is recognized by many as the custodian of the holy places in Jerusalem, during a conference that took place recently in Egypt, assembling Arab judicial experts. Faisal Hizahi, an international judicial specialist, will chair the committee; he said it will inspect and document all the “violations” that harm the holy places in Jerusalem, and initiate criminal procedures against Israel in the International Criminal Court at The Hague. In addition, Hizahi stated that the white paper submitted by the conference emphasized the central role of Jordan’s king, Abdullah II, in inspecting the “daily violations committed by Israel in Jerusalem” and forming a united international stance toward them.

Headline: Hezbollah: Russia is arming us
Senior Hezbollah militants tell US news outlet that Russia is providing the terrorist group with weapons including long-range missiles and laser-guided rockets. Furthermore, one adds, Russia has placed no restrictions on their weapons being used against Israel. The militants, who spoke with reporters from US media outlet The Daily Beast, said that they are receiving the arms with “no strings attached” and that as far as the Syrian civil war goes, the Assad regime, Hezbollah, Iran and Russia are operating in complete concert with one another. According to The Daily Beast, they met the Hezbollah commanders in Beirut’s Dahiya suburb on two separate occasions – once at the end of December and again at the beginning of 2016. The pair, who were apparently not authorized to speak to the media and therefore did not provide their names, said that Russia is arming Hezbollah with “long-range tactical missiles, laser guided rockets, and anti-tank weapons.” One of the field commanders, who dubbed himself Commander Bakr, told The Daily Beast: “We are strategic allies in the Middle East right now – the Russians are our allies and give us weapons. “The intervention of the Russians made it much easier (for us),” he continued. “Without their air force we can’t advance and they couldn’t give us air support without our information from the ground.” Russian officials did not respond to The Daily Beast’s request for a comment.

Headline: Saudi protesters fire-bomb intelligence building in Qatif
A group of masked men threw firebombs at an intelligence service compound in the city of Qatif in eastern Saudi Arabia, activists said on Monday, in an alleged revenge attack for the execution of a prominent Shia cleric by Saudi authorities at the beginning of January. According to Reuters, a Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman said “there was a failed terrorist attempt to burn the building with Molotov cocktails” and that one of the assailants was captured. An activist told Middle East Eye that three people have been arrested in relation to the attack on the intelligence building. Baher al-Mahroos, 20, remains in detention while the two other men who were not identified were released. “The attack took place Sunday early morning between 3:30-4:00am,” the activist, who wished to remain anonymous, said. One resident expressed his concern that such attacks would further escalate matters, leading to a crackdown by Saudi authorities. “Protesters are very worried about this. They want to keep everything peaceful,” the resident said. “The attack happened near a march [on Sunday], which was peaceful. We don’t want people to start being violent.” Tensions have remained high in the Shia-populated Qatif region over the past two weeks following the execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi accused Tehran of “provocative acts” as top Arab diplomats met on Jan. 10 for talks on Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic row with Iran. Arabi was addressing Arab League foreign ministers gathered in Cairo for emergency talks requested by Riyadh on the dispute, which erupted after Saudi Arabia executed prominent Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr. Arabi called on diplomats meeting at the group’s Cairo headquarters to “adopt a strong and clear common position calling on Iran to stop all forms of interference in the affairs of Arab nations.” Nimr’s execution earlier this month touched off anti-Saudi demonstrations in many Shiite countries including in Iran where demonstrators sacked and set fire to the Saudi embassy. Riyadh cut diplomatic ties with Shiite-dominated Tehran the day after the attack and was followed by a number of its Sunni Arab allies including Bahrain and Sudan. Other Arab countries downgraded ties or recalled their envoys to Tehran. The dispute between the Middle East’s dominant Sunni and Shiite powers has raised fears of greater regional instability and concerns for peace efforts in Syria and Yemen, where Saudi Arabia and Iran support opposing sides.

Headline: Yemenis kill 3 Saudis in fresh reprisal attack
Doctors Without Borders said Sunday a missile struck one of its hospitals in northern Yemen, killing at least four people. At least 10 people were injured in the attack, which the organization, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres, said was directed at the Shiara Hospital in Saada province’s Razeh district. While the origin of the attack could not be confirmed, MSF employees on the ground said aircraft were flying over the facility at the time. The BBC reported three MSF staff members were injured, two critically. MSF, which describes itself as an “international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare,” has operated at the facility since November 2015.

Headline: Egypt attack: Three tourists stabbed at Hurghada hotel
Three foreign tourists have been stabbed by two suspected Islamic State militants who stormed into a hotel in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Hurghada. The attackers, armed with knives, were shot by police at the Bella Vista hotel after they attacked two Austrian guests and a Swede, officials say. One assailant was killed and the other injured, officials say. The attackers were aiming to kidnap tourists, officials told the BBC. Reports say they raised the IS flag. Security forces are still searching for possible further attackers. Officials earlier reported that both the attackers had been killed. Syria Headline: Airstrikes in Syria Kill Dozens in Rebel-held Town
Monitors said airstrikes on a rebel-held town in northwestern Syria killed dozens of people Saturday, including civilians, fighters and prisoners. But the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights did not say whether the strikes in Idlib province were carried out by Syrian or allied Russian warplanes, which have both bombed the area in recent weeks. The observatory said at least 39 people were killed in the strikes, which hit a courthouse and an adjoining prison under the control of al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra militants in Maarat al-Numan. Early accounts said dozens more were wounded, and that the targeted facilities included the group’s religious court and a jail. Western news reports said the buildings were struck by four missiles and the number of fatalities was likely to rise.

The Russian military is being blamed for an attack on a Syrian school that killed at least 12 children Monday. Three adults were also killed in the airstrike Monday on a school in rebel-held territory in Ain Jara, about 10 miles north of the city of Aleppo, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. The agency added that in a separate incident, three children died in rocket fire on an Aleppo district held by the Syrian government. Russian airstrikes on Islamic State and Syrian anti-government targets have been responsible for the deaths of 1,730 civilians since Russian military involvement in Syria began in September, the Syrian National Coalition said. Nearly 100 were killed in airstrikes on the town of Maraat al-Numan on Saturday in Syria’s Idlib province. While Russia says its attacks are aimed at the Islamic State, its planes regularly bomb targets in areas not controlled by IS, prompting observers to suggest Russia’s mission in Syria is more directed at enemies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad‘s government. “Nearly 94 percent of the 12,000 sorties the Russian air force has so far flown in Syria targeted civilians and the Free Syrian Army,” the SNC said in a statement.

Iraq Headline: ISIS claims responsibility for Baghdad mall siege that left 18 dead
The Islamic State group is claiming responsibility for the Baghdad mall attack that killed 18 people on Monday. Gunmen stormed into the Jawhara Mall after setting off a car bomb and launching a suicide attack at its entrance. Iraqi officials say the attack which lasted over an hour, killed at least 18 people and wounded 50 in the city’s mainly Shiite east. The IS statement, posted online shortly after the attack, said a car bomb and four IS fighters carried out the attack, targeting an area where many Shiite Muslims are known to gather and warned of “worse” to come. Iraqi officials say the attack was carried out by seven men, one of whom died when he detonated his explosive vest at the start of the Iraqi officials initially described the attack as a hostage situation, estimating that 50 people were trapped inside the complex. But Iraqi forces soon surrounded the building and landed troops on the roof. They clashed with the attackers inside, killing two of them, and arresting the other four. At least four police officers were among those killed in the assault, which lasted around an hour and a half, according to police and medical officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief reporters. Following the attack, authorities shut down the city’s highly fortified Green Zone, home to a number of foreign embassies and most of the country’s political elite. A number of major roads, shopping malls and bridges around the Iraqi capital were also closed for fear of follow-up attacks.
Also on Monday evening, a car bomb in southeast Baghdad in a crowded market area killed five and wounded 12, according to hospital and police officials. Another deadly attack was carried out in the town of Muqdadiyah, about 60 miles north of Baghdad in Diyala province. A double suicide bombing at a cafe killed 24 and wounded 52, according to hospital and police officials. Police officials say the cafe was frequented by militia fighters under the government-sanctioned Popular Mobilization Forces and many fighters are among the dead.

Kurdish Headline: Turkey waging brutal battle in siege on Kurdish stronghold
Turkey is continuing to press its brutal siege on the Kurdish de facto capital. Kurds represent about 20 percent of Turkey’s population, and Kurdish fighters have been the only successful fighting force against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL). The months-long battle for Diyarbakir, a walled city on the Tigris River, has claimed hundreds of lives and observers see no end in sight. Kurdish militants are said to view the battle as perhaps preserving their last chance at self rule, the Wall Street Journal reported. “This is something bigger than us,” said local businessman Sahismail Bedirhanoglu. “It has to do with Middle East dynamics.” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has attempted to silence Kurdish leaders, with many of them under detention. In Diyarbakir, more than 440 Kurdish fighters have been killed since Turkey sent in 10,000 security forces last month. “We respect people’s freedom of expression, but it becomes unacceptable when it turns to armed resistance,” a Turkish official said. Since July, more than 194 civilians have been killed across southeastern Turkey, according to the International Crisis Group. Many see the siege on Diyarbakir as part of a new attempt by the Turkish government to eliminate Kurdish aspirations for autonomy.

Headline: Iran removes core of Arak reactor, looks to sanctions relief
Iran is on the verge of finishing work to dismantle its Arak heavy water nuclear reactor, paving the way for a complete lifting of international sanctions, officials said on Monday. Iran Atomic Energy Organization spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told the Iranian daily Etemad that the work will be completed in about a week, the semi-official Fars news agency reported. Iran agreed to take apart the controversial reactor in exchange for sanctions relief as part of the landmark nuclear agreement hammered out with world powers last year. “We have almost completed all undertakings based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and no job has remained,” Kamalvandi said. He added that remaining work “can be carried out in less than 7 days.” A source told Fars that the central component of the reactor was removed. “The heart of Arak Heavy Water Reactor was taken out today,” the source said. “The operation was accomplished today and the core has been filled with cement.”

Headline: Afghan forces regain control of key district in Takhar
The U.S. Embassy in Kabul warned Monday it has received reports that militants plan to kidnap an American and other Europeans working for an NGO in Afghanistan. The “emergency message” from the embassy said: “The U.S. Embassy in Kabul has received reports that as of early January 2016 an unspecified group of militants plan to kidnap an unidentified American and unidentified Europeans who are employees of an unidentified non-governmental organization (NGO) in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.” The notice did not identify the individuals who may be at risk, or the non-governmental organization (NGO) in question. The notice said the embassy does not have any further information on the “timing, target, location, or method of any planned kidnappings.” The only other detail provided is that the employees in question “reportedly travel from Kabul City, Kabul Province, Afghanistan, to Nangarhar Province at unspecified intervals and possibly serve in an advisory role to the NGO.” The message comes at a time of heightened alert in Afghanistan, where threats from the Taliban and other groups continue to rise.

Headline: Militants hit Benghazi oil plants
A major power plant in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi was been attacked by militants, an army commander and a plant employee said on Saturday. The employee said the shelling started late on Friday evening and continued into the morning, shutting down one of the plant’s units and starting a fire that sent black smoke billowing into the sky. The fire was later extinguished, he said. Military Commander Fadhal al-Hassi told Reuters Islamic State fighters were to blame. This could not be independently confirmed, though other Islamist groups operating in Benghazi do not tend to target civilian infrastructure.

AL-Qaida in North Africa has continued to escalate its rhetoric against France, threatening to commit more terror attacks in Western capitals to force Paris to stop its military intervention in Mali. On January 6, the media institute of the AL-Qaida-affiliated organization released a video titled “From the Desert’s depth,” in which the Malian fighter, Abu Basir al-Bamari, who was recently released from a prison in Mali, urged the Muslims in Mali to take up arms to “fight against the French infiltrators” in order to restore Sharia law in the country. To achieve its aim – ending the French intervention in Mali – the organization threatened to attack the West: “We will strike them in Naples, in Rome, in Madrid. North Korea is likely to engage in additional provocations, top U.S. and South Korea military commanders said Monday. Both U.S. and South Korea forces were placed on the highest alert level Monday, and Seoul said new restrictions are to be introduced at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a joint North-South factory park in North Korea, South Korean television network SBS reported. Residents of Vanuatu are taking shelter as a category four cyclone brings heavy rain and strong winds to the same area devastated by the largest cyclone in the South Pacific island nation’s history last year, aid workers said on Sunday. Disaster management authorities have issued a red alert for islands in Tafea, the southernmost of Vanuatu’s six provinces, a spokesman of CARE Australia told Reuters. “Most people are sheltering in schools and churches, the only permanent buildings on these islands,” Sam Bolitho said. “Some people are also sheltering in caves.” The eye of the storm, Ula, is not expected to pass over any islands but the ring of the cyclone was causing damage, Bolitho said in an email. Islanders are bracing for winds expected to reach up to 165 kmph (100 mph), besides flash flooding, landslides and storm surges. Last March, tropical cyclone Pam, a category 5 storm, the highest classification, wiped out more than 90 percent of Vanuatu’s crops, tore up homes and power networks, killed 11 and disrupted the lives of most of its 252,800 people.

The Palestinian leadership on Wednesday demanded the Greek government act after two Arab passengers were expelled from an Israel-bound flight, saying the decision to remove the pair was “reminiscent” of apartheid. Two Arab passengers with Israeli documents were forced off an Aegean Airlines flight before it set off from Athens on Sunday after Israeli Jews protested about their presence. After an initial complaint by passengers, the pair’s documents were checked again by Greek security but no issues were found. However by this stage the protest had escalated, with dozens of passengers refusing to take off until the men were removed from the plane. “It started with three or four people and by the end there were 60-70 people standing up, demanding that the pair disembark,” an Aegean spokesperson said. Eventually the pair left after negotiations with the airline, staying in a hotel at Aegean’s expense and flying the next day. Aegean on Wednesday expressed its “greatest regrets for the event” and rejected “any possibility of discrimination” in an apology letter. Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, referring to both men as Palestinians, called the decision to eject them “unjust and disgraceful”. “We are outraged by how two Palestinians were treated with discrimination and prejudice at the hands of the Aegean cabin crew prior to the departure of last Sunday’s flight,” he said in a statement. “We call upon the Greek government to take strong action against this racist act, including compensation for the two Palestinian passengers. “This appalling behaviour by the Israeli passengers is reminiscent of the worst years of the South African apartheid,” he said.

There is no peace in sight between Israelis and Palestinians as violence in the region escalates. Gaza’s Hamas leader on Thursday vowed that Palestinians will continue their uprising until they achieve their objectives. The situation in the Middle East is further complicated by the hostility between ultra-religious Jewish settlers and the secular Israeli state. Speaking to supporters in Gaza, top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said the Palestinians will fight “until the land is freed.” “We carry on with the uprising and keep building our strength in a way that will surprise the world. We don’t do this to defend Gaza; we do it to liberate Jerusalem and the whole of Palestine,” said Haniyeh. On New Year’s day, Palestinians allegedly fired several rockets into southern Israeli, and the country’s military responded with air strikes. Israel said it arrested six Hamas members on suspicion that they planned to kidnap and murder an Israeli citizen. Its security forces killed three Palestinians near Israeli settlements south of Bethlehem on Thursday, the day Orthodox Christians were celebrating Christmas in the city believed to be the birthplace of Jesus. Another Palestinian was killed near the city of Hebron when he tried to stab an Israeli soldier. The frequent stabbing attacks have prompted Israel to try to produce special protective vests. “I say it clearly, the uprising will continue until the land is returned to us. We will keep pumping our blood and our souls into the Intifada (Palestinian uprising),” said Haniyeh.

Lebanese security officials say masked gunmen have shot and killed a police intelligence officer and wounded his wife in an attack on the officer’s car in a town near the Syrian border. The officials say the officer, Zaher Izzedine, died instantly in Friday’s attack while his wounded wife was taken to hospital. The couple’s daughter was unharmed. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. They say that the motive for the shooting in the eastern border town of Arsal was not immediately clear. Militants, including members of the Islamic State group and the al-Qaida’s affiliate in Syria, known as the Nusra Front, are known to be active on the outskirts of Arsal.

Shiite Muslim protesters in eastern Saudi Arabia called Friday for the “death” of the Sunni-majority kingdom’s ruling Al-Saud family at a rally to honor executed Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, a witness said. The demonstration capped a week of unrest in Nimr’s hometown of Awamiya and uncertainty in the surrounding Shiite-dominated region of Qatif, after Nimr’s execution on Saturday. “Death to the Saud family,” protesters shouted, raising their arms in the air, according to the witness. “Fall, fall, Al-Saud”, they added. Pictures of the protest showed what appeared to be hundreds of people, many of them clad in black. They held black flags and pictures of the executed sheikh, who was also honored at a protest in Qatif on Friday night. “The march finished safely,” a witness said. Nimr was a driving force behind protests that began in 2011 among the kingdom’s minority Shiite community. Those protests developed into a call for equality in the Sunni-dominated kingdom, where Shiites complain of marginalization.

Iran has accused Saudi Arabia of using warplanes to attack the Iranian embassy in the Yemeni capital Sana’a. Some guards were reportedly wounded in the attack, according to state news channel IRIB. The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen says it will investigate the accusation, according to coalition spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri, as cited by Reuters. Asseri acknowledged that coalition jets carried out heavy airstrikes in Sana’a on Wednesday night, targeting missile launchers used by the Houthi militia. He added that the group has used civilian facilities, including abandoned embassies. He said the coalition had requested that all countries supply the coordinates of their diplomatic missions, adding that accusations made on the basis of information provided by the Houthis “have no credibility.” The Thursday allegation came as Iran banned the import of all products made in Saudi Arabia. The decision was made in a cabinet meeting chaired by President Hassan Rouhani, according to Iranian student news agency ISNA. The cabinet also reaffirmed a ban on Umrah pilgrimages to Mecca, which was first imposed in April after an alleged sexual assault on two male Iranians by Saudi airport guards. On Sunday, Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran over the storming of its embassy in Tehran. The move came just one day after Saudi authorities executed a prominent Shia cleric.

Gunmen opened fire on Israeli Arab tourists as they boarded a bus in Cairo on Thursday but there were no casualties, security sources said. Egypt’s Interior Ministry said the attack was directed at security forces. The shooting took place at the Three Pyramids Hotel, on a road leading to the Giza pyramids southwest of Egypt’s capital. Joint List MK Ahmad Tibi said in a post on Facebook that 45 tourists from Umm el-Fahm, Kafr Kassem, and Jaffa were on the bus when it was attacked, and that “everyone is alive and well with no injuries.” Egyptian authorities said 15 people who had gathered on a side street near the hotel threw homemade fireworks in the direction of security forces stationed there. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an armed attack on Israeli tourists in Cairo, according to Amaq, a news agency that supports the group. Meanwhile, The Egyptian branch of ISIS claimed the bomb attack which blew up the Sinai gas pipeline to Jordan. The bomb was placed under the pipeline near Al-Midan in northern Sinai. There were no casualties.

At least 50 militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) were killed and dozens more wounded in renewed clashes with the Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) northeast of Aleppo, military sources reported on Thursday. Fierce clashes took place in the vicinity of Tishreen town on the western bank of Euphrates River in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo after a group of ISIS militants tried to infiltrate into the town –which was liberated by the western-backed SDF units end of December. “A large group of ISIS terrorists tried to infiltrate into Tishreen town on Thursday, but our units foiled the operation and clashed with the terrorists,” an SDF spokesman told ARA News on Thursday. “Subsequent to fierce clashes, the group withdrew from the vicinity of the town. More than 50 dead bodies of the terrorists were found in the clashes area, while dozens others were wounded and captured by our units,” the spokesman reported. He added that three SDF fighters lost their lives and seven others were wounded in Thursday’s clashes.

Iraq Headline: Army announces Iraq, Afghanistan deployments for 1,800 soldiers
About 1,800 soldiers from two separate units will deploy to the war zone in the coming months, the Army announced Friday. About 1,300 soldiers will deploy to Iraq this spring to support Operation Inherent Resolve. The other 500 soldiers will deploy to Afghanistan for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. They are:2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. About 1,300 from the brigade will go to Iraq this spring. Once in-country, they will advise and assist Iraqi Security Forces, replacing soldiers from 1st BCT, 10th Mountain Division. Soldiers from 2nd BCT recently completed a rotation at the Joint Readiness Training center at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The brigade “is ready, trained, well-led and fully prepared to take on its new mission in support of coalition operations in Iraq,” said Maj. Gen. Gary Volesky, commander of the 101st Airborne Division, in a statement.

An attempted attack by Islamic State on a military base in northern Iraq shows Turkey’s decision to deploy troops there was justified, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday, suggesting Russia was stirring up a row over the issue. Turkey deployed a force protection unit of around 150 troops to northern Iraq in December citing heightened security risks near Bashiqa, where its soldiers have been training an Iraqi militia to fight Islamic State. Baghdad objected to the troop deployment, however. The head of the Sunni militia said his fighters and Turkish forces launched a joint “pre-emptive” attack on Islamic State around 10 km (6 miles) south of the base on Wednesday because the militants were building capacity to launch rockets at it. “Our forces managed to detect the position of these rockets so they conducted a preemptive strike,” Atheel al-Nujaifi, former governor of the nearby Islamic State-controlled city of Mosul, told Reuters. “This operation was ended without a single rocket being launched at the camp,” he said. Erdogan said no Turkish soldiers were harmed while 18 Islamic State militants were killed. “This incident shows what a correct step it was, the one regarding Bashiqa. It is clear that with our armed soldiers there, our officers giving the training are prepared for anything at any time,” he told reporters in Istanbul.

Ethiopian security forces have killed at least 140 people taking part in mass anti-government demonstrations since November, activists say, according to US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW). The protests have been sparked by fears that a plan to expand the capital’s administrative control into the Oromia region will displace Oromo farmers. HRW also called for the release of an Oromo politician arrested last month. The government has accused Oromo protesters of links with terror groups. Last month, officials said five people and an undisclosed number of security personnel had died in the protests. South Sudan’s two-year-long civil war has produced one of the world’s largest humanitarian emergencies. More than 2.3 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including some 650,000 who have sought refuge in neighboring countries. A truck bomb exploded in the western Libyan city of Zliten near a police base, killing at least 60 policemen and wounding 200 on Thursday, officials said. No one claimed responsibility for the bombing, but a local Daesh affiliate has been trying to gain a foothold in Zliten from its central stronghold of Sirte. Rescue crews have only managed to extract 60 bodies out of the wreckage, a hospital spokesman, Moamar Kaddi, said. Libyan officials said they believed there might be dozens more dead. The base, where 400 police recruits were training, was used by the border police, a Zliten security official said. Border police foiled numerous human smuggling attempts off the coast of Zliten last year. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Clashes soon broke out between police who fired tear gas and bird shot at rock and molotov cocktail-throwing protesters, some of whom chanted “Death to Al Saud, Death Al Khalifa,” referring to the Saudi and Bahraini royal families. It was the latest of several protests which have turned violent since Saudi Arabia executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr a week ago, stoking outrage among Shiites in Bahrain and elsewhere in the Middle East.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 400 points Thursday as steep falls in Chinese equities spilled over to global markets. The country’s stock market fell more than 7% amid concerns about capital flight from the Asian giant, and China’s stock markets stopped trading after only 30 minutes, ending the shortest trading day in their history after the newly installed mechanism to limit volatility was triggered for the second time this week. The Dow industrials dropped 392.41 points, or 2.3%, to 16514.10. The S&P 500 dropped 2.4%. Both indexes are off to their worst starts ever, with the Dow down 5.2% over the first four trading days of the year and the S&P 500 off 4.9%. The Nasdaq Composite, which declined 3% on Thursday, is having its worst start since 2000, down 6.4%. Traders said while they prepared for a frenzied trading session there was relatively little urgency in the selling. “U.S. markets are getting wrapped in with global markets, and rightfully so, but so far there isn’t massive panic selling here,” said Jonathan Corpina, senior managing partner at Meridian Equity Partners.

Forty people have died in Nigeria in a suspected outbreak of Lassa fever in 10 states across the country, Health Minister Isaac Adewole said Friday. “The total number (of suspected cases) reported is 86 and 40 deaths, with a mortality rate of 43.2 percent,” Adewole told a news conference in the capital, Abuja. The minister said that so far, laboratory tests have confirmed that 22 of the 86 suspected cases were Lassa fever and results were expected on the remainder. Seven of the affected states are in the north — Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Plateau and Gombe — while the remaining three are in the south — Rivers, Edo and Oyo — he added. The first case of the disease was recorded last November in Bauchi state. Cases were then reported in Kano and elsewhere. According to the WHO, Lassa fever is an acute haemorrhagic illness which belongs to the arenarvirus family of viruses, which also includes the Ebola-like Marburg virus.

More than 24 hours after the explosive device set by Hezbollah exploded on Har Dov, Israel’s security establishment believes the current round of blows has ended between the Lebanese organization and the Israel Defense Forces. Security sources told Haaretz on Tuesday that according to Hezbollah’s response to the incident and various signs on the ground, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah seems to be making do with this response to the assassination of Samir Kuntar, which Hezbollah attributes to Israel, and will not be maintaining the tension for much longer. Nevertheless, IDF forces on the Lebanese border and the Golan Heights will remain on high alert for now, to thwart further possible attacks, if it turns out that the intelligence analysis of Hezbollah’s intentions is mistaken. Hezbollah’s media outlets in Lebanon released photos Tuesday of the area of the incident on Har Dov. Taken from some distance away on the Lebanese side of the border, the photos show the scene of the explosion, a damaged bulldozer and a nearby IDF outpost. Hezbollah media outlets extolled the achievement of its fighters, who crossed the border into Israel and set the explosive device in thick fog and despite the IDF’s declared high alert. Some of the reports from Lebanon even claimed that soldiers were injured and that Israel was concealing this fact. The IDF spokesman said no soldiers had been injured in the attack.

Headline: Abbas: Palestinian Authority will not collapse
Palestinian Authority president gives televised speech in Bethlehem, in which he stresses that the PA would be followed by a Palestinian state. President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday that the Palestinian Authority was one of the Palestinians’ achievements and “no one should dream that it would collapse.” In a televised speech from his office in Bethlehem, where he arrived to attend Christmas celebrations of Orthodox Christians, Abbas said that the PA would be followed by a Palestinian state. “We won’t accept any other scenarios,” he said, referring to reports that the Israeli government had recently discussed various scenarios that could emerge in the aftermath of the collapse of the PA. “The Palestinian Authority exists and it is here,” Abbas stressed. “It will be followed by a Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority is one of our achievements and we won’t give it up.” Over the past few years, Abbas and other senior Palestinian officials had threatened to dissolve the PA and “hand the keys back to Israel.” Abbas’s speech on Wednesday was preceded by rumors that he is planning to resign. On Saturday, unconfirmed reports claimed that Abbas had suffered a stroke and was being treated in a Jordanian hospital. Abbas’s office strongly denied the reports.

Islamic State threatened to destroy Saudi Arabian prisons holding jihadists after Riyadh’s execution of 47 people including 43 convicted al Qaeda militants. The militant group, which has claimed responsibility for attacks in the kingdom and stepped up operations in neighboring Yemen, singled out the al-Ha’ir and Tarfiya prisons where many al Qaeda and Islamic State supporters have been detained. “The Islamic State always seeks to free prisoners, but we calculate that the ending of the issues of prisoners will not happen except with the eradication of the rule of tyrants, and then destroying their prisons and razing them to the ground,” it said in an article posted online on Tuesday. An Islamic State supporter killed himself in a car bomb at a checkpoint outside Ha’ir prison near Riyadh in July. While Islamic State and al Qaeda are rivals who have condemned each other on ideological grounds, they are both united in enmity towards Saudi Arabia, which has declared them terrorist groups and locked up thousands of their supporters.

Also on Dec. 30, Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen reported that a Bahraini F-16 fighter jet crashed in southern Saudi Arabia near the Yemen border in Jizan. “The Bahraini air force pilot participating in the coalition managed to escape after his plane crashed in Jizan region on Wednesday morning after a technical malfunction,” a statement by the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and released by the Saudi Press Agency said.

Headline: Egyptian army kills 61 militants in restive Sinai
At least 61 militants were killed and 10 others arrested in military actions over the past two days in the restive North Sinai province, Egypt’s military said Tuesday. In Monday’s actions in North Sinai’s Arish, Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah cities, as well as other areas and mountain routes in Middle Sinai, 32 terrorists were eliminated and six suspects arrested, the military said. That adds to the 29 killed and four arrested during actions in the same areas on Sunday, a statement added. During these campaigns , the military also destroyed 80 improvised explosive devices, more than a ton of drugs and a number of machine and sniper guns. The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) militant group, which has changed its name to “Sinai State” and vowed loyalty to the regional Islamic State (IS) militant group, has claimed responsibility for most of the terror attacks in the country.

Syria Headline: Syrian army, rebel fire kills 26 around Damascus
Government and rebel bombardment killed up to 26 civilians and wounded dozens in the Syrian capital and a nearby opposition bastion on Wednesday, state media and an activist group said. Mortar rounds fired from the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region onto residential areas of Damascus left eight civilians dead and 23 wounded, the official SANA news agency reported. The attack came after the army fired rockets onto the Eastern Ghouta town of Douma earlier in the day, killing six civilians, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based activist group. The group gave a slightly different toll of nine dead and 30 wounded, some critically, in the bombardment of Damascus. Ten other civilians, including a child, were later killed in government airstrikes on the town of Hazzeh and one in Mesraba, east of the capital, the Observatory said.

Syria Headline: Siege threat looms over northern Homs
Syrian regime forces have cut off rebel supply lines south of Hama, threatening to impose a harsh siege on opposition-held territory in the northern Homs area. “Regime forces are working to impose a choking siege on southern Hama countryside and northern Homs countryside,” a media activist told Alaraby Aljadeed in an article published Monday. The activist, who goes by the pseudonym Abu Talib al-Hamawi, explained that in the past week regime troops have pressed a military campaign along a series of villages east of the Hama-Homs M5 highway. “Resistance by opposition factions in northern Homs and southern Hama has been weak because of poor coordination, and a lack of support and heavy weaponry,” he explained. Pro-Damascus outlets have reported over the past two days that Syrian regime forces have swept into villages lying along the Orontes river, which winds its way southeast from Hama.

Iraq Headline: ISIS steps up assault on western Iraqi town after losses
ISIS has stepped up attacks on the western Iraqi town of Haditha, where at least 45 Iraqi security forces and Sunni tribal fighters have been killed in clashes over the past three days and another 30 wounded, according to Iraqi officials. The attacks come after Iraqi forces aided by U.S.-led airstrikes drove ISIS militants out of the city center of Ramadi, the capital of the sprawling Anbar province west of Baghdad. Following that victory a week ago, U.S. officials said the extremist group has lost 40 percent of its territory in Iraq and 20 percent in Syria. Coalition officials briefing journalists on Wednesday described a multi-pronged attack on Haditha beginning early this week. ISIS suicide attackers driving cars loaded with explosives approached the town from three fronts, while other militants fired mortar rounds at the nearby al-Asad air base, home to some 450 foreign coalition forces, none of whom were wounded in the attack.

The recent flare-up of clashes between the Turkish security forces and militants linked with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in urban areas across southeastern Turkey, which with discernible devastation have reduced some residential areas to mere rubble, has put the country onto a list of conflict zones that need to be closely watched in 2016, a report shows. The report written by Jean-Marie Guéhenno from the International Crisis Group and published on Foreign Policy says photographs taken in Turkey’s Southeast have been worrying. The images of the bloody urban battles “capture a dangerous escalation in Turkey’s long conflict with the PKK, a confrontation that has killed more than 30,000 people since 1984,” Guéhenno wrote. Among the reasons that have contributed to the sudden escalation in fighting, according to Guéhenno, is the cooperation between Turkey’s PKK and its Syrian affiliate, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which has made significant gains against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). “Ankara worries that cross-border Kurdish solidarity will further strengthen demands for a separate state,” he wrote.

American defense officials earlier told NBC News that U.S. Special Operations Forces were involved in a counter-terrorism operation in the Marjah area of Helmand province when they came under attack. A U.S. medevac chopper called in to recover casualties then came under mortar and small-arms fire, the officials added. It was not clear if the helicopter had been hit by enemy fire or whether any casualties were sustained in that landing zone, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon spoke out this morning before an emergency Security Council meeting, condemning the alleged hydrogen bomb test by North Korea. “This act is profoundly destabilizing for regional security,” Ki-Moon said, noting that, if true, it “seriously undermines” existing nuclear regulations. He urged North Korea to “cease any further nuclear activities and meet its obligations for verifiable denuclearization.” The concern over North Korea’s nuclear capability was renewed when a magnitude-5.1 earthquake was measured in the country near the site of an earlier nuclear weapons test, officials said Tuesday night. Eighty-two leading Democrats have cosponsored a House Resolution (H.Res. 569) “Condemning violence, bigotry, and hateful rhetoric towards Muslims in the United States”. The Resolution was introduced in the House of Representatives by Democrat Donald S. Beyer (Virginia) on December 17, 2015 — a mere 15 days after Tashfeen Malik and Syed Farook gunned down 14 innocent Americans and wounded 23 in an ISIS-inspired terror attack at a Christmas party in San Bernardino, California. The House Resolution states, “the victims of anti-Muslim hate crimes and rhetoric have faced physical, verbal, and emotional abuse because they were Muslim or believed to be Muslim,” and the House of Representatives “expresses its condolences for the victims of anti-Muslim hate crimes.” What victims? Of all 1,149 anti-religious hate crimes reported in the United States in 2014, only 16.1% were directed against Muslims, according to the FBI. By contrast, over half of all anti-religious hate crimes were directed against Jews – 56.8%. The fewest, 8.6% of anti-religious hate crimes, were directed against Christians (Protestants and Catholics). The Resolution goes on to denounce “…in the strongest terms the increase of hate speech, intimidation, violence, vandalism, arson, and other hate crimes targeted against mosques, Muslims, or those perceived to be Muslim.”

The Zika virus, a rare tropical disease that’s causing a panic in Brazil — because it may lead to babies being born with abnormally small heads — has now made its way to Puerto Rico. And experts fear the United States could be next. Until last year, the Zika virus, which is spread by mosquitoes, was mainly confined to Africa and Asia. But in 2015 the disease made the leap to the Western Hemisphere, affecting more than a million people in Brazil. It’s since spread to Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, and nine other countries. Last week, the first confirmed case in Puerto Rico was reported. The puzzling spread of Zika is part of an uptick of mosquito-borne illnesses — including West Nile, dengue, and chikungunya — in areas that have never experienced them before. “It’s spreading really fast,” said Scott Weaver, the director of the Institute for Human Infections and Immunity at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. “I think [the Zika virus] is going to be knocking on the doorstep in places like Florida and Texas probably in the spring or summer.” The overwhelming majority of people who come into contact with Zika — through bites from infected mosquitoes — seem to experience either a flu-like illness or no symptoms at all. But there’s reason to pay attention to this virus: Researchers say that Zika may potentially cause microcephaly, a congenital condition that’s associated with a small head and incomplete brain development in newborns.

Headline: Mind-reading computer deciphers words from brainwaves BEFORE they are spoken
A ‘mind-reading’ device that can decipher words from brainwaves without them being spoken has been developed by Japanese scientists, raising the prospect of ‘telepathic’ communication. Researchers have found the electrical activity in the brain is the same when words are spoken and when they are left unsaid. By looking for the distinct wave forms produced before speaking, the team was able to identify words such as ‘goo’, ‘scissors’ and ‘par’ when spoken in Japanese. The scientists behind the technology said they can identify brain waves associated with syllables or letters of the Japanese alphabet, meaning it may be possible to decode entire words and sentences without the need for any of them being physically spoken. To ‘listen’ to the unspoken words, the researchers used a method called electroencephalogram, or EEG. This technology records electrical activity from the brain using an array of electrodes on the scalp to detect the brain waves.

Headline: Powerful storms threaten mudslides in drought-stricken California
The most powerful storm yet in a series of El Nino storms pushed onto the California coast Wednesday as police and outreach teams kept an eye on riverbeds where thousands of the city’s homeless live and would be vulnerable to flash flooding. Los Angeles authorities have spent days getting the transients from low-lying areas and shuttles were available to bring people to shelters that had room for as many as 6,000 beds, according to Mayor Eric Garcetti. There was a renewed risk that the Los Angeles River and other waterways could rise quickly as the third of four predicted storms moved in from the Pacific. The latest system is packing colder temperatures, stronger winds and heavier rainfall than the previous ones that have battered the state since the weekend. Heavy rain drenched San Francisco during the morning commute and sparked mayhem as drivers crashed, trees toppled and streets and streams flooded. The California Highway Patrol estimated there were nearly two dozen weather-related crashes in the region by 7 a.m. The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood watch for nearly the entire Bay Area. The storm was expected to move south through the Central Coast and into Southern California by midday.
