How many of you believe ISIS main target it Syria? Syria is one of the nations that is mentioned in the Psalm 83 war against Israel. ISIS has said that after Syria they will turn their attention to Israel. You will see why I said this as you keep reading below.

Jihadist Islamic State has 50,000 members in Syria: NGO http://news.yahoo.com/jihadist-islamic-state-50-000-members-syria-ngo-205731468.html

NOTE FROM FRANK 2bb_thumb2Take a look at the map to see who the nations are that will be fulfilling the Psalm 83 war prophecy soon.  For the past month now the nations listed in the up and coming Psalm 83 war have either sent rockets into Israel along with the Hamas or, have taken sides with the nations around the world against Israel.  Who cares if Israel doesn’t break the cease fires, who cares if everyone eyes Hamas continue to launch attacks on Israel while Israel sits back and hopes the PLO and Hamas won’t break another cease fire!  Who cares if Israel warns their targets before they strike in the hope that some smart PLO citizens will heed the warning and leave before Israel bombs the targets?  As soon as Israel makes a move to protect the Israeli citizens the world turns on Israel and calls her the aggressor!  The Hamas have planned all this because they know that Israel is under the world microscope and no matter what Israel does she can never please those who report the news.

I want everyone to know that this type of news was to be expected.  Why?  Because if we are in the last days as Christ warned then we must witness the events that would lead to Israel being alone in the world. How many times have I warned my readers  Hamas is not interested in real peace. How many times have I warned my readers that Hamas will call for a new cease fires not for the sake of peace but for the sake of extra time to rearm and attack again. Over and over again the same events are being played out but the prophecy time clock is advancing.  You talk about war fronts what about the prophecy fronts.  People can easily see that a war is coming in the Middle East  but, they are blind to why these wars are about to take place.

Not only has the Hamas, PLO, and ISIS painted a target on the nation of Israel but, the world has joined in with them in supporting those who are shelling Israel.  To those who have taken sides with Israel’s enemies I am warning you that you need to remember what the prophecy below states!!!

temple mountCooltextprophecysign
Zechariah 12:2-3 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the
people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and
against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for  all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though
all the people of the earth are gathered together against it.

Let me make this as clear as I can for you.  If you are one of the people supporting Hamas, the PLO, ISIS or anyone else who is coming against Israel you have fallen into the Zechariah 12:2-3 black hole.  You have become not only an enemy of Israel but of God and you should expect to be cut in pieces.  I am not telling you you may, I am telling you you will!  Do you think God’s judgments will pass you by. His judgment is going to fall on everyone who fulfills the Zech. warning. Take for example the headline you are about to read below concerning a prominent Saudi Arabian newspaper who has just attacked Israel and has called Israel’s actions against those who launched more rockets “barbaric war” Israel is conducting in Gaza”.  When I saw that this statement came from a Saudi Arabian newspaper I wasn’t taken back by the remark because Saudi Arabia is one of the nations God warned us that would join in with Hamas, the PLO and the rest of the nations listed in the Psalm 83 war against Israel.

Fact is, I want to thank the Saudi Arabian newspaper for saying what they said because you just helped show how great our God really is.  The Saudi paper just help me show the world that what God has warned is in fact coming to pass in these last days.  One one thing we see the direction the Saudi’s will soon take against Israel in the Psalm war and second the paper just help me show the world that one by one nations are coming against the tiny nation of Israel fulfilling the Zechariah prophecy.   You will see in the report below that the writer of this report made this comment. “all Jews should be gassed,”.  If I were the person who wrote this report I would make it a habit from now on to keep looking up because your judgment just may come from a falling object out of space which just happens to hit you or, maybe a huge sink hole that just happens to open up under your feet or, maybe one of the men from ISIS will think your not up to par as far as he is concerned and decides to take you out! I can’t tell this man how the judgment will come but one thing is for sure IT IS COMING!  When God says don’t mess around with the Jews you don’t mess around with them!  Look at it this way.    Take a look at the picture below of the East Gate in Jerusalem.  Can you see that is blocked up?  I hope so because it has been blocked up for a reason. Read Ezekiel 44:1-3 below:

1Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut. 2 Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut. 3 It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the Lord; he shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.

gateEast Gate

I would like to challenge anyone who has taken part with the PLO, Hamas, ISIS or anyone who doesn’t  support Israel to break through the East Gate. I am sure you are the type of people who discount God’s Zechariah 12:2-3 prophecy so you most likely won’t believe the East Gate prophecy either.  I want you to see how great our Christ and God really is.  I want you or your followers to make every effort to take just one of the stones away from the East Gate that has sealed this entrance shut for so long.  While you are attempting to do what I ask just keep in mind, this is the gate Jesus Christ has to walk through before you or anyone else in this world!  Keep in mind also of all the wars Israel has been in since 1948 and not one of these stones has been moved from the East Gate.  Do you think this is a coincidence?  If you think Allah will help you break through I suggest you call on him because you will soon find out  that Allah will do the same thing he did in the 1948, 1967, 1973, and even now in the Gaza war. What was that? Nothing, he will be a no show again and again just as he will be again in the Psalm 83 war.  Even some of the Hama’s  own warriors have just seen the hand of God move missiles away from their appointed targets on Israel say their God deflects the missile we send up.

ISIS is suppose to have no fear. They are good at killing little children, young women, and people who have no weapons. Show me you have no fear and try breaking through the East Gate. Let me tell you what is going to happen to you. You will either die at that Gate or, you will become like Paul the Apostle who hunted down Christians until he meet Jesus Christ.

In closing this section I need to ask one more question. Why do you think God picked a tiny little nation in the heart of the Earth as a special people?  Because He wanted to show the world that no matter what the world does to this tiny nation they would never wipe out the Jews.  Fact is, in Ezekiel 38 and 39 you will see that God is going to sanctify his name on a special day in the latter year of which we are now in those latter years. There is a special day that the Muslims will attack Israel with Russia and on that day the judgment will fall on 5/6 of the invading armies against Israel. I pray that many who live in the nations of either the Psalm 83 war or the Ezekiel 38 war will come to know Jesus Christ before those wars take place because it is far better to be blessed by Christ Jesus than cut into pieces by Him.  You may have not seen this but what I am about to show you is very important.  The news report below talks about the Islamic States in London and how ISIS is pushing for recruits in the UK. In this report you will find a map of the ISIS goal nations. In other words these are the nations that ISIS has said they will take.  If you do a study you will find out that most of these nations are either listed in the Psalm 83 war or the Ezekiel 38 war and will be defeated by God in either the Psalm 83 or the Ezekiel 38 war.  They have grand goals but they have an appointed day with God that will put those goals to a halt!

Now before you read the report below I wanted to make sure you read this section as it shows how Zech. 12:3 is coming to pass. “That anti-Semitism has been rampantly revealed as of late amid the biased coverage of Operation Protective Edge; a recent study found anti-Semitic incidents worldwide in July had risen 383% compared to the same month in the previous year.”

Anti-Israel rally (illustration)

UK-Based Journalist Justifies Rise in Global Anti-Semitism

An op-ed last Tuesday in a prominent Saudi Arabian newspaper justified statements from international anti-Israel rallies calling for Jews to be killed as an “understandable reaction” to the “barbaric war” Israel is conducting in Gaza.

The piece in the Saudi Gazette, written by UK-based Pakistani journalist Ali Ashraf Khan, was translated and revealed by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

According to Khan, the statement “all Jews should be gassed,” a call for a continuation of the Nazi genocidal machine which was heard at recent pro-Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) rallies in the Netherlands, was “understandable.”

“How come they (the Jews) don’t realize or nobody has explained to them that this is an understandable reaction of people who feel helpless in the face of the barbarity that Israel is committing against helpless civilians in Gaza,” penned Khan. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/184237#.U_T2NfldVls

A question has been asked for weeks by many news agencies. That question is this, who will stop ISIS?  It may appear ISIS is unstoppable but this is not the case. ISIS will keep marching until they are ready at all the boarders of Israel. When this happens ISIS will face any enemy that will not run away as they did in Iraq.  If ISIS continues as they have been they will be a major forces in every nation that is listed in the Psalm 83 war. Israel will not no choice but to launch everything they have against ISIS and wipe them out. The black flag you see waving is going to fall as God uses the Jews to silence those who seek to destroy Israel.

Gaza terrorists continue to pound Southern Israel with rockets, drawing IDF response  (note) This video comes with video which show Israeli’s hitting the ground for safety.  If you are part of the United Nations you may want to address the fact that Israel has not attacked anyone until they are attacked so why is it that you have failed to address who is the real enemy of the world?  Since the UN is basically nothing but a mouth piece where very little is very done except talk I make a motion to disband this organization as all it is doing is eating up nations money that could go to feeding the poor.

I saw a movie not long ago and after tracking the news concerning the Ebola outbreak I am beginning to wonder if the people who wrote the movie knew what would be happening shortly?  The current Ebola outbreak is moving to new places and it appears government officials really haven’t taken this outbreak as serious as I would have figured they would however, now it is like panic is setting in as more cases of the Ebola are being reported.

Ebola virus reaches Germany as woman is tested in Berlin and 600 are quarantined

THE Ebola virus came a little bit closer to home today after a woman was tested for the deadly disease in the German capital of Berlin.

The 20-year-old woman, who collapsed while working at a Job Centre in Berlin’s Pankow district was taken to hospital after showing symptoms of the virus.

According to Berliner Zeitung the woman, who is originally from West Africa, said she had had contact with victims of Ebola in her homeland.

The job centre was immediately cordoned off and around 600 people have now been quarantined inside, according to reports.http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/501167/Ebola-virus-latest-Berlin-woman-tested

Is this the beginning of something huge?  If panic gets a hold of the people living in these areas and people begin to move for fear of getting the Ebola, people who have it will carry it pass the borders which have already seen outbreaks. This disease is in areas now that the medical care is very poor which will make it that much harder to contain!

Headline: 17:38- The reported 11 clauses of the Egyptian ceasefire offer

More info from the Egyptian newspaper al-Shorouk on what it says are the 11 clauses of the ceasefire deal Egypt has proposed to Hamas and Israel, as reported by Channel 2:

  1. Israel will halt all attacks on Gaza — by land, air or sea. There will be no ground incursions into Gaza.
  2. All Palestinian factions in Gaza will stop all attacks against Israel by land, air or sea, and will stop the construction of tunnels from Gaza into Israel.
  3. The opening of crossings between Israel and Gaza – the passage of people and goods will be allowed in order to rebuild Gaza. The transfer of goods between Gaza and the West Bank will be permitted, according to principles which will be determined between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
  4. Israeli authorities will coordinate with the PA all issues of funds related to Gaza and its reconstruction.
  5. The elimination of the buffer zones along the security fence in the northern and eastern Gaza Strip and the deployment of PA forces in those areas beginning January 1, 2015. This will be conducted in several steps: At first the buffer zone will be reduced to 300 meters from the border, then 100 meters and finally the removal of the buffer zone altogether with the deployment of PA troops.
  6. The fishing zone off the Gaza coast will immediately be extended to 6 miles, and will be gradually extended to 12 miles, in coordination between Israel and the PA.
  7. Israel will assist the PA in rebuilding infrastructure destroyed in Gaza, and will assist in providing basic necessities for those Gaza residents who were forced to flee their homes due to the fighting. Israel will provide medical aid to the wounded, and will expedite the transfer of humanitarian aid and food through the crossings.
  8. The Palestinian Authority in coordination with Israel and international aid groups will provide the basic products needed to rebuild Gaza, according to a predetermined schedule which will allow those driven from their homes to return as soon as possible.
  9. Egypt implores the international community to provide swift humanitarian and monetary assistance for Gaza’s reconstruction, according to a set schedule.
  10. Upon the stabilization of the ceasefire and the return to normal life in Gaza, the sides will conclude their indirect negotiations in Cairo within a month after signing the deal. The exchange of prisoners and bodies will also be discussed at that time.
  11. The possibility of constructing an airport and sea port in Gaza will be considered in accordance with the Oslo accords and other previous agreements. According to the report, both sides are now considering the Egyptian proposal.

Headline:  Report: Gaza organizations to surrender tunnel building as part of ceasefire agreement

Headline:  EU offers to monitor Gaza borders in truce deal

An Islamic Jihad spokesperson on Friday claimed that a truce deal with Israel will be signed as soon the current five-day ceasefire ends next Monday at midnight. “We expect a complete truce agreement to be signed right as the five-day ceasefire ends. The delegation has made much progress in ending the siege and the offensive on Palestinians,” Yousef al-Hasayneh told the Palestinian Arab Ma’an News Agency. Al-Hasayneh said that the current ceasefire extension was agreed to on Wednesday night to give the Egyptian intermediaries time to remove “technical issues” blocking a final agreement. The Islamic Jihad terrorist confirmed numerous reports that the proposed truce deal would ease the blockade on Gaza, expand the naval fishing zone, and allow construction materials into the Hamas terror enclave. He also confirmed that discussion on the issue of a sea and airport in Gaza would be postponed for a month after the agreement.

comment****WHILE THIS IS A NICE QUICK GUIDE, THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT NEED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR BACKGROUND HERE:

PA ‘President” Abbas is NOT the person the Palestinians want. Abbas is the chairman of the PLO and the ‘president’ of the ‘state of Palestine” since 2005. His term expired in 2009, but due to internal conflict he has unilaterally extended his role for another 7 years. On the other hand…Ismail Haniyeh is the PM of Palestinian National Authority (PNA) . He is a political leader of Hamas, but was dismissed by Abbas in 2007- which he ignored and to this day continues his PM duties over Gaza. It is important to remember that the PNA was formed in accordance with the Oslo Accords BETWEEN Israel and the PLO. Regardless of the Hamas-Fatah ‘reconciliation’ agreement, there remain many tensions between them, the least of which is the people’s feelings on the matter.

Headline: Palestinian negotiator: Israel must be held accountable for alleged war crimes

Palestinian leaders are prepared to take Israel to international court over “war crimes,” a veteran Palestinian diplomat said. Dr. Saeb Erekat said Palestine would apply to join the International Criminal Court to hold Israel accountable for alleged crimes committed during combat with Hamas forces in Gaza. “I can assure you now, that business as usual will be no more. Status quo no more. If the international community, the Camerons, the Kerrys, the Fabiuses of this earth, after these massacres that have been committed against the Palestinians, will just tell the Palestinians and Israelis, ‘We invite you back to negotiate’ — this is not going to happen,” Erekat told the British newspaper The Telegraph in an interview published Friday. His references to British Prime Minister David Cameron, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius suggest he expects Western leaders to join him in bringing Israel not to the negotiating table but to court.

Headline: Jordan, S. Arabia see eye to eye on regional issues

His Majesty King Abdullah and Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz held talks on Thursday which focused on means to boost relations between the two countries as well as the latest developments at the Arab and regional levels. The two leaders also discussed several issues of joint concern during their talks, held in Jeddah, according to a Royal Court statement.Regarding the conditions in Gaza as a result of the unjust Israeli aggression, the two leaders stressed support for the efforts exerted to end the Israeli offensive and to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people. King Abdullah stressed the need for intensifying international efforts to ensure the resumption of peace negotiations that should deal with all final-status issues, in a manner that meets the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people in ending the Israeli occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the Palestinian national soil, on the basis of the two-state solution, relevant international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Turning to the situation in Syria, His Majesty stressed the need to reach a comprehensive political solution to the crisis that ends the suffering of the Syrian people and guarantees the unity and security of their country. Talks also covered the developments in Iraq, with the King reaffirming Jordan’s support for all efforts to safeguard the unity of all Iraqis by launching a comprehensive political process that engages all components of the community. The two leaders discussed means to activate joint Arab action to reach unified stances over the various challenges in the best interest of Arab and Muslim peoples and their just causes.

Headline: Hezbollah sees Islamic State as threat to Gulf, Jordan

The leader of Lebanese group Hezbollah described the radical Islamist movement that has seized territory in Iraq and Syria as a growing “monster” that could threaten Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other Gulf states. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, whose group has been helping Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad fight a Sunni Islamist-dominated insurgency, said Islamic State could easily recruit in other areas where its hardline ideology exists. “Wherever there are followers of the ideology there is ground for (Islamic State), and this exists in Jordan, in Saudi Arabia, in Kuwait, and the Gulf states,” Nasrallah said in an interview with the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar published on Friday. Nasrallah, whose group is backed by Shi’ite Muslim power Iran, said Islamic State was encountering resistance in some parts of Iraq and Syria. But he added: “It appears that the capabilities, numbers and capacities available to (Islamic State) are vast and large. This is what is worrying everyone, and everyone should be worried.”

Headline: Talks to free Lebanese soldiers facing communication difficulties

Talks to free Lebanese soldiers and policemen are faltering due to the difficulty communicating with the militants believed to be holding them, Future MP Jamal Jarrah said Friday. In an interview with Beirut’s Voice al-Mada Radio, Jarrah said it had become extremely difficult to communicate with the captors because of the geography of the area in which they are located after their withdrawal from Arsal. “Communications are almost cut off, but there are several attempts to re-establish contacts with the gunmen or with those negotiating with the gunmen in order to find a solution to the issue of the captured soldiers,” Jarrah said. Jarrah denied allegations that Saudi Arabia could be playing any role in the negotiations or having contacts with the militants. “The negotiations are being conducted through the Committee of Muslim Scholars and there is no intention to change that,” Jarrah said. Some 19 Army troops in addition to 17 ISF personnel are missing and believed to be held by militants from Syria’s Al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who launched an incursion into Arsal Aug. 2, taking over the town and withdrawing five days later under a cease-fire agreement.

Headline: Saudi Arabia requests AWACS mission system upgrade

The US Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of its approval of a potential $2 billion mission system upgrade sale for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s airborne warning and control system (AWACS) fleet. The proposal for the upgrade was delivered on 12 August to Congress, which will now decide whether or not to authorise the sale. The modifications to the Royal Saudi Air Force’s five-strong Boeing 707-derived E-3A Sentry fleet would be provided as a Foreign Military Sale. Saudi Arabia has requested five Block 40/45 mission computing upgrade systems and 20 UPX-40 next-generation identification friend-or-foe (IFF) systems. Communication equipment, a mission planning system and spares would also be provided, as well as US government and Boeing logistics and technical support services.

Headline: Three killed in Egypt in fresh clashes

Three people were killed as supporters and opponents of Egypt’s ousted Islamist President Mohammad Morsi clashed after Friday prayers, security officials said, a day after five people died in sporadic violence. Supporters of Morsi have attempted to stage rallies since Thursday, the first anniversary of a deadly police crackdown in Cairo that left hundreds dead, but security forces have swiftly quashed them. Clashes erupted when pro-Morsi marchers set off fireworks close to shops and residences in the area, the official said, adding the two men were killed by live ammunition and birdshot. Riot police later intervened and also clashed with pro-Morsi protesters. Eight Morsi supporters were arrested and a security officer and three conscripts were wounded in Faisal, the security official said. The interior ministry said that “an armed and masked Morsi supporter” was killed by security forces south of Cairo when they intervened to break up a clash between the two groups. Five people including a police officer were wounded in a separate protest in north Cairo.

Iraq Headline: ISIL establishing cells in Baghdad, aided by ex-Saddam security forces

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has established an operational presence on the outskirts of Iraq’s capital. Security sources said ISIL has been quietly moving cells near Shi’ite neighborhoods of Baghdad. They said ISIL suicide bombers were directed to conduct mass-casualty attacks on mosques, schools and markets in an attempt to spark a Shi’ite flight. “They are secretly moving terrorist squads near Shi’ite areas so they can sustain a bombing campaign in much of Baghdad,” a source said. The sources said ISIL was aided by former members of the ousted Saddam Hussein regime, including military and security officers. They said the ex-officers were helping ISIL transport fighters and explosives through Baghdad’s sewers and tunnels, many of them built more than 20 years ago as escape routes by Saddam aides. “These tunnels start in the Anbar province and connect to Baghdad, so you don’t know where they [ISIL] are or how close they are to their target,” the source said. “They could never have achieved this without the help of the Saddam people.”

Iraq Headline:Barzani (president of Iraqi Kurdistan) slams Peshmerga leaders over Sinjar withdrawal

The Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) is now busy trying to set up their fourth Canton in Sinjar after three cantons created in Syrian Kurdistan. After Islamic State (IS) militants attacked and captured the Yazidi-majority town of Sinjar in northern Iraq, thousands of Yazidis fled to Mount Sinjar. A large number of them were rescued through air corridor and a road created through to Syria, making way for the PKK to move to the mountain and set up a camp. A source in the Peshmerga said that in the last two day, a large number of PKK fighters have gone on to the mountain and set up a camp by the name of “Yazidi Reform Movement,” a group intent on forcing Yazidi youths to join the camp on the mountain and to take up arms. The source also revealed in the past the same movement was setup with the support of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Iran in an effort to prevent Sinjar joining the Kurdistan Region. After IS militants captured Sinjar, PKK and the Popular Protection Units (YPG- SYRIAN KURDS) fighters came on to Sinjar mountain to nurture their influence in the area.

Facebook from last night:  UN to Vote on Measure to Combat Al-Qaida Fighters

Headline:UN measure demands IS fighters in Iraq and Syria disband immediately, threatens to slap sanctions on governments that trade with militants

U.N. Security Council members have reached agreement on a draft resolution that would punish the recruitment and financing of foreign fighters in Iraq and Syria and demand that all al-Qaida-linked groups disarm and disband immediately, diplomats said Thursday. It demands that the Islamic State group, Jabhat al-Nusra, “and all other individuals, groups, undertakings and entities associated with al-Qaida cease all violence and terrorist acts, and disarm and disband with immediate effect.” It also demands that “all foreign terrorist fighters” associated with the Islamic State group, which is a splinter group of al-Qaida, and other terrorist groups “withdraw immediately.” The draft resolution expresses the council’s readiness to impose sanctions on those recruiting, supporting and fighting for terrorist groups.

Headline: Kiev claims clash with Russian troops inside Ukraine

It is being characterized as an incursion and not an invasion at this point, but whatever you want to call it, one thing is for sure: the Russians are coming. Just days ago, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen warned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine was a “high probability” and that it would take place under the guise of a “humanitarian operation. It looks like he was right. On Tuesday, Russia dispatched 280 trucks that they claimed were carrying humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine. Putin claimed that the convoy was part of an agreement with the Ukrainian government and the International Red Cross, but the Red Cross itself was surprised as they only learned of the aid transfer from news reports. Today, Ukraine said its artillery destroyed part of a Russian armored column that entered its territory overnight and said its forces came under shellfire from Russia. As per usual, Russia’s government has denied that its forces are in Ukraine, calling the report “some kind of fantasy” and sabotage to prevent aid from getting to pro-Russian backed separtists in Ukraine.

Headline: US Sending 600 Troops, APCs And Tanks To Countries Bordering Russia To “Reassure Threatened Allies”

Headline: Europe is on brink of war

Escalation over the Ukraine conflict, a/k/a Cold War 2.0, just took another major step forward. Because here comes the cavalry… literally. While the world is focused on the first deployment of US marines in Iraq in nearly a decade, as “humanitarian advisors” of course so as not to destroy the Nobel peace prize-winning aura of the US president who is rapidly becoming a warmonger on par with his predecessor, a far more dangerous development took place overnight with nobody noticing, when the Pentagon announced that approximately 600 soldiers from the Army’s 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division will deploy to Poland and the Baltic states to help reassure European allies who feel threatened by Russian military moves. And while most Americans may be geographically challenged, Russians know very well that all of these countries border on Russia. As such this very demonstrative military expansion by NATO powers to “pre-contain” Russian military agression will only lead to one thing: even more “defensive” escalation. Headline: Ukraine death toll hits 2,086 – Merkel warns against cutting ties with Putin

The estimated death toll in the Ukraine conflict nearly doubled to at least 2,086 as of Aug 10 from 1,129 on July 26, the United Nations human rights office said yesterday. “This corresponds to a clear escalating trend. “UN human rights spokeswoman Cecile Pouilly told Reuters in response to a query. On average, more than 60 people a day have been killed or wounded since fighting began in mid-April in eastern Ukraine, rising to at least 70 people a day in the first week of August, she said. Nearly 5,000 have been wounded to date. The figures for casualties include Ukrainian soldiers, armed groups, pro-Russian militants and civilians, but are “very conservative estimates”, Pouilly said. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned yesterday against severing ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the Ukraine crisis but said he must also do his part. Merkel told the Saechsische Zeitung newspaper she was “working very hard to keep the lines of communication open” with Putin despite the EU’s decision last month to level sanctions against Russia over its actions in the ex-Soviet state. “But for constructive relations it takes more than one,” she added. “I have always called for constructive cooperation with Russia and will continue to do so in future.”

Iran’s foreign minister says it is unlikely to reach a final nuclear accord with world powers by a November deadline. Parliament’s news website Friday quoted Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying that even if a general agreement is reached by the deadline, the two sides will require more time to discuss details. “Hence, it is unlikely to reach a final conclusion before a four-month span,” he was quoted as saying. Headline: Afghan special forces say in talks on deal with Taliban in Helmand

After months of intense fighting in southern Afghanistan where hundreds of Taliban fighters have battered Afghan troops in daily attacks, the special forces commander in Helmand province is seeking a deal with the insurgents. Helmand province is the source of about half of Afghanistan’s opium and some areas have fallen under the control of drug dealers and the Taliban. Hundreds of U.S. and British soldiers were killed and wounded there over years of fighting but now it is the Afghans who are in charge of security as most foreign troops prepare to withdraw from the country by the end of this year. “Based on my contacts with Taliban and tribal elders I have already started talks,” Afghan special forces commander General Asadullah Shirzad, told reporters on Thursday, referring to his efforts in the province’s Sangin district. “Now security is much better in Sangin but to have a peaceful province we need more time to talk.”Shirzad declined to give details of his negotiations but said he hoped to extend talks across the province once calm had been restored in Sangin. Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi denied any negotiations with security forces in the province, saying “we do not have any plan to talk now”.

Government troops clashed with South Sudan rebels on Friday near the capital of the oil producing Unity State, a U.N. official said, days after a U.N. Security Council delegation warned of sanctions if either side violated a cease-fire both side recomitted to in May. Heavy shelling and gunfire near Bentiu started around 6:00 a.m. and continued for several hours, said a Reuters correspondent in a nearby U.N. base that is sheltering 29,000 people displaced by months of fighting. A senior U.N. official at the base said the rebels had clashed with government troops 300 meters west of Rubkona Airstrip, which is about 6 km (4 miles) north from Bentiu. An air assault by Operation Dignity forces on Monday (August 11th) destroyed a weapons-laden boat as it approached the Libyan port of Derna.

The strike followed a warning from General Khalifa Haftar’s operation that incoming vessels were likely carrying weapons and extremists. “We struck a boat carrying ammunition and people coming from Syria,” Colonel Mohamed Hijazi said. “Then we shelled a convoy of cars that were loaded with weapons and were heading to Tobruk, forcing some of them to return to their hideouts in Derna,” he added. Derna eyewitness Ahmed Albardi described the bombardment. “The aircraft kept flying over Derna. Some individuals were trying to bring it down from one of the houses in the city, which was rented by terrorist Sufian al-Quma,” Albardi said. “As soon as they saw the aircraft bombing the boat, they began firing at it with anti-aircraft missiles, which landed on nearby houses killing the people inside,” he added. According to Albardi, “terrorists are still hiding in Derna on the roofs of buildings, in forests and on farms”.

Headline: Turkey calls for help with Syria refugees as tensions rise

Turkey’s relief agency said Friday that it was time for the world to start “sharing the burden” of the 1.2 million Syrian refugees it is hosting, after tensions between Turks and refugees again turned violent. The latest clashes in the southeastern city of Gaziantep were sparked by the fatal stabbing earlier this week of a Turkish landlord, allegedly by his Syrian tenant, and led to a major exodus of refugees from the city. Hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have fled their country’s civil war to neighboring Turkey in the last three years after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan – now president-elect – announced an open-door policy. Some 285,000 Syrian refugees are living in refugee camps, mostly in the southeast, according Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). But some 912,000 are living outside of camps in cities across the country, according to AFAD, and their presence has become an increasing source of tension with local residents. After the latest clashes in Gaziantep – where refugees reportedly now make up a 10th of the population – AFAD’s head Fuat Oktay said that the international community should do more to help Turkey cope. Tensions between Turks and Syrian refugees living outside of camps first boiled over in Gaziantep last month, when locals attacked a Syrian after a traffic accident, and there were also protests against refugees in Kahramanmaras to the north. The authorities in Istanbul have also threatened to act against an influx of Syrian beggars to the city and sent them back to camps along the border. According to Turkish media, city officials in Gaziantep have now drawn up an “action plan” to calm the situation and some 7,800 Syrians will be moved to camps near the city, or to others in the neighboring regions of Mardin and Sanliurfa.

A leaked document from the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis predicts increased “anti-government violence over the next year.” The document says the inspiration for violence is Cliven Bundy’s Bunkerville standoff with the Bureau of Land Management from earlier in the year. DHS’s seven-page report entitled Domestic Violent Extremists Pose a Threat to Government Officials and Law Enforcement points to the recent murders of two Las Vegas law enforcement officers as evidence that there is a “growing trend of anti-government violence compared to the previous four years and inspired by perceived government overreach and oppression” and the “perceived victory at Bunkervile” will “likely prompt more violence.”

Headline:  Thousands Rally in Times Square for Michael Brown, Unarmed Missouri Teen Killed by Police

After days of dramatic confrontations between protesters and police, Missouri officials say authorities are trying to restore calm. “Work continues to assure the safety and freedom of people to assemble and respect their views while protecting property and staying safe,” Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said during a Friday afternoon press conference in a mall parking lot on Buzz Westfall Drive in Jennings, Mo., just outside of Ferguson. “Moving forward, our goal is to make sure we keep the peace while these parallel investigations are going on, continue, and justice is served.” Capt. Ron Johnson of the Missouri Highway Patrol said the situation on the ground has changed. “Last night was a great night,” Johnson said. “There was no calls for service. We did not deploy tear gas. We did not have any roadblocks. We did not make any arrests. It was a good night. People were talking. People were inspiring each other, and we were communicating a lot better.” Johnson, who grew up in the area, added, “I’ve got a son, and I’ve got a daughter. And I want them to be able to walk these streets safely.” The statements come just hours after Ferguson police identified the officer who killed 18-year-old Michael Brown as Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran of the force. Johnson said he will speak with Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, who released the name, later Friday. Johnson told National Journal he had not seen the collection of police reports that Ferguson police provided to the media Friday morning.

A student taking part in a protest in Senegal’s capital Dakar was killed when demonstrators and police clashed, a government minister said Friday. Several students and officers were also badly hurt in the protest Thursday at the Cheikh Anta Diop University, Higher Education Minister Mary Tew Niane told reporters. Demonstrators were demanding that the government pay scholarships. One student said he witnessed police ransacking students’ bedrooms and destroying belongings, especially computers, mobile telephone and televisions. The prosecutor’s office was looking into the incident, the minister said. Students’ union SAES called for the resignation of Tew Niane and Interior Minister Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo.

Headline:  Blasts, sustained gunfire heard near Pakistan’s Quetta airport

Gunmen armed with automatic weapons, grenades and wearing suicide vests attacked two military airbases in southwestern Pakistan early Friday, with security forces killing seven militants in the ongoing fighting, officials said. Sarfaraz Bugti, the home minister of insurgency-hit Baluchistan province said that militants had tried to storm the Samungli airbase, used by Pakistan’s Air Force, and Khalid military airbase, both in the provincial capital Quetta, but had failed to penetrate either perimeter. “Exchange of fire is going on near both the airbases. Seven terrorists have so far been killed,” Bugti told AFP. “The target of the attacks were both the airbases but police and security forces thwarted the attacks,” he added. The airbases are some 12 kilometres (seven miles) apart in Quetta.

Headline: Two anti-government marches arrive in Pakistani capital

A convoy of opposition supporters led by Pakistani politician, Imran Khan, has come under attack in the city of Gujranwala in Punjab Province. Unidentified gunmen attacked the convoy on Friday as protesters were heading to the capital Islamabad for a mass anti-government rally. Armed men threw stones and “fired bullets at us,” cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said. Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, and religious figure, Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, chairman of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) political party, are travelling to the capital to try to topple the government they say was elected by fraud. Opposition groups mounted a campaign to pressure Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down over the alleged vote rigging in parliamentary polls last year. They are also demanding that the Pakistan government hold new elections. Meanwhile, authorities in Islamabad blocked several main roads with shipping containers and barbed wire in an effort to thwart the marches.

Headline: U.N. peacekeepers step in as Aristide supporters demonstrate in Haiti

Supporters of former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide demonstrated Thursday in Port-au-Prince after a judge issued an arrest warrant for him on Wednesday. An arrest warrant was issued for Aristide after he missed a court appearance to face charges of money laundering, corruption and drug trafficking. Concern that the former president would be imminently arrested prompted supporters to erect barricades outside Aristide’s home, lining the nearby road with rocks and burning tires. A group of 150 stood in the streets in an attempt to prevent his arrest. At some point, United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti personnel arrived on the scene but protesters threw rocks at one U.N. vehicle, forcing two staff members to seek shelter in an area residence. “We can confirm that the U.N. security team rescued two U.N. staff,” a U.N. official told the BBC. Once the U.N. staff were safe, “peacekeeping troops cleared the protesters and their barricades, and retrieved the U.N. vehicle using smoke grenades and armored vehicles.”

Headline: France rebels against austerity as Europe’s recovery collapses

France’s finance minister sends tremors through European capitals with a defiant warning that his country would no longer try to meet deficit targets Eurozone strategy is in tatters after economic recovery ground to a halt across the region and France demanded a radical shift in policy, warning that austerity overkill is driving Europe into a depression. Growth slumped to zero in the second quarter, with Germany contracting by 0.2pc and France once again stuck at zero. Italy is already in a triple-dip recession. Yields on 10-year German Bunds fell below 1pc for the first time in history, beneath levels seen during the most extreme episodes of deflation in the 19th century. French yields also touch record lows. Much of the eurozone is replicating the pattern seen in Japan as it slid into a deflation trap in the late 1990s. It is unclear whether tumbling yields are primarily a warning signal of stagnation ahead or a bet by investors that the European Central Bank will soon be forced to launch quantitative easing, buying government bonds across the board. Michel Sapin, France’s finance minister, sent tremors through European capitals with a defiant warning that his country would no longer try to meet its deficit targets and would not inflict further damage on its economy by tightening into the downturn. “I refuse to raise taxes to close any budget gaps,” he said.

The official death toll from the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa is currently standing at 1,145 deaths out of 2,127 cases, but the numbers could be vastly underestimated, the World Health Organization has warned. “[WHO] staff at the outbreak sites see evidence that the numbers of reported cases and deaths vastly underestimate the magnitude of the outbreak,” the organization wrote on its website. While no new cases surfaced, the outbreak is expected to continue “for some time” in West African states affected by the virus, the WHO said, adding that the “operational response plan extends over the next several months.” WHO is coordinating the international response such as the World Food Programme and is using its “well-developed logistics to deliver food to the more than one million people locked down in the quarantine zones, where the borders of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone intersect.” The organization is also mapping out the outbreak to effectively locate closest treatment facilities.

Headline: Marine mystery disease along Pacific Coast baffles scientists

Sea stars up and down the Pacific Coast are dying off in record numbers, and scientists say they can’t figure out what’s going on. Reports indicate that in some areas of Washington State, for instance, upwards of 80 percent of the sea star population has vanished, while other areas are reporting strange phenomena like sea star limbs falling off and literally walking away on their own — what one marine group coordinator likened to “an alien thing.”
For the past several years, students, environmentalists, and even ordinary citizens have noticed a drastic increase in the number of gravely ill or dead sea stars littering the West Coast. One group that monitors sea life around Island County, Washington, says sea stars are increasingly succumbing to a mystery disease that some have dubbed “star wasting” syndrome that, when it runs its full course, causes sea stars to disintegrate.

Connecting Dots….ISIS-Syria- Iraq and the Disappearing Borders August 15, 2014

I’m going to jump right in here- it’s very difficult to keep track of all this information, so let me see if I can connect some dots for you.  On August 8th, I gave a lot of information on ISIS and how their 5 year plan could be the blue prints of prophecy.  If they succeed in their plan, the caliphate will encompass all the countries spoken of in the Ezekiel War.

http://endtimesresearchministry.com/august-8-2014-the-possible-blueprints-of-prophecy-before-our-eyes/

What’s important to realize here is: ISIS is erasing borders.  That’s right- erasing.  To them, there is no more Syria and Iraq as countries.  There is only the caliphate.  Perhaps I have been remiss to continue keeping the news separated into the original countries, but I wanted you to get a sense of what the Lord told us to watch for in each country listed in both the Psalm and Ezekiel Wars.  At this point though- there is no Syria and no Iraq.  There is only ISIS.

I haven’t decided yet if I will continue keeping Iraq and Syria news separate, but I will still keep the other countries that way until such time as they too need to be merged.

Will ISIS be stopped?  I have no idea. I only know what countries the Lord told us to watch- so watching closely I have been.  When you look at their plan, they still show lines drawn between the countries listing the original names.  But if you look at the map I drew- there are no boundaries.

article-2674736-1F46221200000578-100_634x381 FotoFlexer_Photo

ISIS envisioned boundaries_0

I have tried to provide maps each day to help you see where the events are taking place- this is why there are maps listing the provinces- it’s meant to help you understand.

Perhaps the best thing I can do is suggest you watch an inside look at an ISIS video that explains what they are doing and WHY everything is about the Skyes -Picot agreement.  They resent the ‘dividing up’ of the Ottoman Empire and are doing everything in their power to reverse it.  The video is at this link (if you choose to watch it) and is about 40 minutes long.  There are NO graphic images.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUjHb4C7b94&list=UUZaT_X_mc0BI-djXOlfhqWQ

I know the news out of Iraq & Syria is very confusing because all the main news focuses on is ISIS and the plight of the Yazidis.  Some of the following you will remember due to the news stories you’ve been seeing over the past weeks.

The first thing to know is where the Kurds consider their country, although not formally recognized:

contemporarykurdistanmap2005

UNTIL I CAN GET TO MY YOUTUBE AGAIN, PLEASE TRY TO UTILIZE THESE MAPS 🙂

You can clearly see how much of Syria and Iraq the Kurds claim.

There are 4 fronts fighting in Syria:

ISIS AND ASSAD (DAMASCUS)

ISIS AND FSA (REBELS)

REBELS AND ASSAD

ISIS AND THE SYRIAN KURDS (YPG: This is the People’s protection units. Why is it called the YPG? Because in Kurdish the phrase is Yekîneyên Parastina Gel (YPG). This is the armed wing of Syrian Kurdistan, a ‘de facto’ autonomous region in Syria)

Just because that is the ‘formal’ announcement, does not mean that is what is actually happening. I HAVE SHOWN YOU MUCH NEWS OVER THE LAST DAYS THAT CLEARLY INDICATE MANY FSA REBELS AND SYRIAN KURDS ARE JOINING OR AT LEAST WORKING WITH ISIS.

This is Syrian Kurdistan

suriye-kurdistan

It certainly explains how ISIS has taken over much of this area.  I explained a few days ago that water and oil are powerful weapons.  ISIS needs these weapons to establish and fund their caliphate.

FotoFlexer_Photo***The blue areas indicate ISIS control in Syria

If you look at this map of only Syria where ISIS is and compare it to where the oil and gas fields are located- WHAT DO YOU SEE?

ISIS has gone after the oil and gas fields.  And look at the oil and gas pipeline.  MARK MY WORDS: THEY ARE GOING AFTER HAMA AND HOMS NEXT.

The capitals of these countries are also important in order to overthrow the ruling governments.  That would be DAMASCUS AND BAGHDAD.

IraqIraq

There are 4 forces fighting in Iraq- forget about the US & humanitarian aide for now.

IRAQI MILITARY

PESHMERGA: this is just a term used by Kurds to refer to any armed Kurdish fighters

ISIS

PKK: this is the Kurdistan Workers Party, a political and military organization formed to fight Turkey for its independence and to help the Kurds in Turkey. In 2005 Iraq recognized the Kurds as an autonomous region- you can see it on the map below. You can also see how this area borders Turkey, Syria and Iraq.

Autonomous_Region_Kurdistan_en

AGAINJust because that is the ‘formal’ announcement, does not mean that is what is actually happening. I HAVE SHOWN YOU MUCH NEWS OVER THE LAST DAYS THAT CLEARLY INDICATE PESHMERGA AND PKK MEMBERS ARE JOINING OR AT LEAST WORKING WITH ISIS.

ISIS has again gone after the oil pipelines and major oil fields.

Iraq conquest

Keep in mind ISIS now controls 40% of all wheat production in Iraq.  This map also explains why ISIS is battling so hard for Irbil and Kirkuk.  In addition to needing Baghdad to overthrown the ruling government, look at the oil field sitting there.  You can almost line up the ISIS control to the pipelines!  Here again, keep watching because they will continue to battle for the Northern areas and sweep down toward Baghdad, where many of their forces are already carrying out car bombings and skirmishes.

Now that we’ve basically had a geography lesson, you can plainly see why Saudi, Jordan, Kuwait, Iran and Turkey are concerned (all but Kuwait will be involved in the Psalm War to varying extents).  Each day’s news brings you information about them traveling to those countries for what they term “meetings”.  Yesterday I pointed out that Jordan was getting ‘ready for something’.  Now we know. It is also plain WHY the US has become involved in Iraq again when you compare the amount of oil there to the amount in Syria.

I pray this helps you understand some of news you’ve been seeing and WHY.  You can always refer back to this section if you see something that needs clarified.  And soon I will be back to YouTube 🙂 The daily news will be coming shortly in another post.

NOTE FROM FRANK 2 I want to address the fact that I haven’t been making any YouTube videos lately and why.  I know you miss them and I miss doing them!  But there are quite a few reasons that hasn’t been happening lately.  The seminars I have been doing have gone from a simple 1 day prophecy seminar to a series that cover my entire almost 600 page book.  All of my video ‘production’ lately has gone into transforming the book into video presentations.  As you can imagine this is VERY time consuming.  I have also been invited to give my seminar at more than 1 church.  The amount of news there’s been lately is another reason, because when you add the 2 together- YIKES!  It is only myself and my assistant churning out the amount of information you’ve seen lately and 2 people can only do so much in a given 24 hour day. I ask you to bear with me, as this is only temporary. I will do my best today to connect more dots for you.  Please be patient, as I said this is only temporary.  I appreciate your support and your prayers!  God bless you all-  Frank

Hamas Spokesman: We Will Continue to Develop Our Arsenal 1minute

Hamas TV Report on Ongoing Rocket Production in Gaza 2 minutes

Psalm 83

Cooltextprophecysign“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

Israel’s Operation Protective Edge entered its 38th day on Thursday

ceasefire

Headline:   PLO reports new Gaza truce, Hamas denies and shoots rockets. Israel is silent, retaliates with air strikes

Total confusion reigned Thursday morning, Aug. 14, stirred up by a night of contradictory words and actions around the mirage of yet another truce in the Gaza war. The only immutable fact was Hamas rocket fire starting two hours before the last 72-hour ceasefire was scheduled to end Wednesday midnight and continuing up until 2 a.m. Thursday – namely before and after PLO-Ramallah envoys in Cairo and Egyptian officials reported a new five-day ceasefire had been agreed. Hamas-Gaza denied any such deal until all its conditions met. No Israeli official was available to confirm or deny the PLO-Egyptian claims. However, the Israeli air force retaliated for the Palestinian rocket fire with air strikes over the Gaza Strip. Early Thursday, the unofficial word from Jerusalem was that the indirect talks in Cairo, which according to Hamas had broken down, will “apparently” be resumed Sunday. Egypt, Hamas, the PLO and Israel appear to be totally at loggerheads. This impasse has produced a volatile and unpredictable situation that is closer to a lingering war of attrition between Hamas and Israel than a negotiated accommodation.  Towards dawn Thursday, Ashkelon, Kiryat Gath, Netivot, and the Lachish, Eshkol and Shear Hanegev Districts again heard the explosions of Hamas rockets and Israeli air strikes over Khan Younes and central Gaza. Members of the Israeli cabinet say that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon don’t keep them in the picture. Its hazy outline indicates that the two war leaders still hope to maneuver Hamas into accepting a prolonged ceasefire. Because that is the last thing that the Palestinian Islamists seek, they will keep on shooting.

Headline:  Hamas may not return to the talks at all

The new five-day truce does not mean that a deal is close. Quite possibly, it indicates the opposite. The announcement of another 5-day ceasefire through to Monday night does not necessarily indicate that a long-term ceasefire is close. The sides’ agreement in principle to another 120 hours of calm stems principally from their failure to find a solution, not a dramatic narrowing of the gaps between them. The three relevant parties in the Cairo talks — Israel, Hamas and Cairo itself — are deeply at odds not only with each other and also internally as regards their own interests, reducing the prospects of an overall agreement.

The security cabinet will convene at 5:30 p.m. at the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing negotiations for a permanent ceasefire, Haaretz diplomatic correspondent Barak Ravid reports. Channel 2′s diplomatic correspondent, Udi Segal, says the ministers will present their conditions for a ceasefire to the cabinet. He says Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Finance Minister Yair Lapid are likely to push for strengthening Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, while Economy Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman are likely to demand strict control over funds transferred to the Gaza Strip. Earlier today, cabinet ministers complained that they had heard of the renewal of the temporary truce between Israel and various Palestinian factions from Hamas press statements rather than from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Thousands of people gathered Thursday evening at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square for a rally in solidarity with the citizens of southern Israel, who have lived for more than a month under the increased threat of attacks emanating from the Gaza Strip. The rally was attended by residents of southern communities, municipal leaders and others wishing to express their support for Israelis living on the Gaza periphery. Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai said his city stood with communities in the South as part of a collective Israeli society. “Tel Aviv and the South are partners in the path of Zionism and loving the land and a joint destiny in this land,” he told the crowds gathered in front of the Municipality building. Eshkol Regional Council Mayor Haim Yellin called for a humanistic view at the hostilities in the southern regions. “Residents of Gaza border towns are not just people who rockets are shot at!” he stressed. Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi said the residents of the rocket-beaten region under his authority would “not tolerate the continued murder attempts from Gaza.”

Headline: Israeli official confirms US nixed arms shipment; pols argue over who’s to blame

The US government has halted a shipment of Hellfire aerial anti-armor missiles to Israel, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing government sources. The sources noted that Israel had requested the transfer of ammunitions directly from the Pentagon, with receiving the approval of the White House or State Department officials. According to the sources, White House officials were concerned about Israel’s use of artillery, instead of precision-guided munitions in the more densely populated areas. An Israeli official told the newspaper that the rift between Israel and the US has now deepened: “We’ve been there before with a lot of tension with us and Washington. What we have now, on top of that, is mistrust and a collision of different perspectives on the Middle East.”

The Palestinian Authority official daily has published five articles in the last six weeks accusing the United States of establishing the radical Islamic movement Islamic State (ISIS or IS) that has conquered vast territory in Syria and Iraq in recent months. ISIS has declared itself a Caliphate, thereby claiming religious authority over all Muslims; its goal is to bring much of the Middle East, including Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Cyprus under its control. To this end, ISIS has used extreme terror tactics, including decapitations, crucifixions and mass murders that were filmed and posted on YouTube.  The articles claim that the US has a long term goal of controlling the Arab-Muslim states by dividing them through conflict and wars. ISIS’s war and other conflicts are all said to be the work of the US

Headline:   US customers complain post offices refusing mail delivery to Israel

A number of local post offices in the United States have recently told customers that they are not accepting mail for delivery to Israel due to the conflict with Gaza, the Anti Defamation League reported on Thursday. The ADL has received complaints in recent days that local post offices in Massachusetts, Michigan and New Jersey were refusing to send mail to the Jewish state. “The postal employees have told these individuals that current USPS policy says that mail to Israel cannot be accepted because of the current crisis,” ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said. “Only once employees sought clarification from supervisors in Washington did these post offices accept packages and letters to Israel,” he added. The ADL claimed that mail delivery was halted for 36 hours following the US Federal Aviation Authority’s decision earlier this month to prohibit US airlines from flying to and from Ben-Gurion airport in light of the rocket threat from Gaza. However, with the lifting of the flight ban, mail delivery from the US to Israel was resumed. The ADL penned a letter to US Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe, stating that postal authorities in the local branches had misunderstood the temporary ban on delivery to Israel as permanent. The League urged the Postal Service to ensure that all of its employees are aware that mail delivery to Israel has not been suspended.

Sympathizers with the Hamas cause in Gaza have brought their tactics to America, publicizing an effort to blockade an Israeli ship from unloading its cargo in Long Beach, CA on Wednesday morning. The poster publicizing the intended event read, “Block the Boat End Israeli Apartheid.” The organizers wrote, “Every week, the Israeli owned Zim shipping line docks and unloads its cargo at the Port of Long Beach. Let’s boycott Israeli Apartheid and stop the ship from ever unloading in our town. From Seattle to Oakland to Los Angeles: turn the Israeli ship around!” Long Beach, apparently, is now Hamas’s town.

Headline: His Majesty directs gov’t to activate Defence Ministry, expand IEC’s role

Headline: Royal Decree summons Parliament to meet in extraordinary session

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday directed the government to activate the Ministry of Defence and expand the jurisdiction of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) to encompass all electoral processes. In a letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, the King issued directives to activate the Defence Ministry to assume the political, economic, legal and logistic functions related to national defence. The measure will be part of “a crucial new phase of reforms — based on the principles of transparency, enhancing popular participation and sharing national responsibilities — to add to the major qualitative reforms achieved over the past three years”. The ministry will take over the non-military logistic, administrative, investment and development duties, and those not associated with specialised professional military domain that the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) currently undertakes. Its envisioned role will also include developing the state’s general defence capabilities and managing military resources more efficiently. The measure is aimed at “ensuring that the Arab Army and the General Intelligence Department remain professional and apolitical”, Ensour said in the letter.

King Abdullah underscored the solid relations between the two countries, and expressed keenness to boost them and help Lebanon face challenges in a way that guarantees its unity, security and stability. Discussions at the meeting also focused on the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that ends the suffering of the Syrian people.

Headline:U.S. to deliver more weapons to Lebanon following raids by Islamists

The United States will soon deliver additional weaponry to help bolster the Lebanese military as it faces a growing threat from Islamic militants amid the fallout from the civil war in neighboring Syria, the U.S. ambassador said Thursday. Ambassador David Hale said the deliveries come in response to a request from the Lebanese armed forces for emergency assistance after Islamic militants overran a Lebanese town near the Syrian border, killing and kidnapping soldiers. Hale did not say when the munitions would arrive, nor did he provide a price tag for them, but he did say the new assistance it is part of Washington’s long-standing partnership with the Lebanese military. The U.S has provided more than $1 billion in military assistance since 2006, including over $120 million in training and equipment since October, he said.

Hamas was “not serious in its call on Hezbollah for assistance in the Palestinian Gaza Strip,” Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah says in an interview with the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, excerpts from which were released yesterday. While the actual meaning of Nasrallah’s words can’t be gleaned from the few excerpts that have been released (the full interview will be published today and tomorrow), they may indicate that the Shiite Hezbollah, which has been fighting Sunni Islamists alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad, harbors some criticism toward Hamas, which has called on Hezbollah to open a new northern front against Israel amid the fighting to the south in the Gaza Strip. Also in the interview, Nasrallah vows that his organization’s involvement in Syria will not affect its presumably violent plans for Israel. “What we have prepared for Israel was not affected by our actions in Syria,” he says. Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated that there are “no red lines” in the “security war” with Israel, reported al-Akhbar newspaper.

Saudi Arabia has refuted reports that forces from Pakistan and Egypt have been deployed along the kingdom’s northern border to defend it from IS militants. Saudi National Guard Minister Prince Miteb Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz said the kingdom’s security forces were more than capable of dealing with any cross-border terrorist threats, denying reports that troops from friendly Muslim countries had been deployed on its borders. “It would be better for them [terrorist organisations] not to approach Saudi Arabia’s borders and if they opt to do so they will really suffer,” the minister said according to a report carried by Saudi Press Agency. Addressing a press conference in the northern city of Arar, Prince Miteb denied reports that Egyptian and Pakistani forces had been deployed to defend Saudi Arabia’s border with Iraq. “We have very good relations with Egypt and Pakistan but the reports about the presence of their forces in the kingdom are not true . . . We in Saudi Arabia have the capabilities to defend our lands,” he said. “The kingdom’s military strength has reached 27 million, which is the population of the country including soldiers and ordinary citizens. Every citizen in the kingdom is a soldier and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has stated he will be in [the] forefront to defend the nation,” Prince Miteb added.

One child was killed and two others were wounded when a rocket landed on their home in the Egyptian town of el-Mattallah south of Rafah, near the border with Gaza, security and medical sources told Reuters on Wednesday. Sara Salama, 13, died while her brother Khaled, 8, and sister Rahaf, 2, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. The rocket impact is the third to hit the area in recent weeks, security sources said, adding that Egyptian authorities were investigating the incident. It is unclear if attack came from Gaza or was executed by militant forces in the Egyptian peninsula. In the past, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis has been responsible for multiple terrorist attacks on Egyptian soil, mainly in the restive Sinai peninsula. In addition to this pledge of allegiance, the group has also claimed responsibility for the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank.

Headline:  Syrian troops seize contested Damascus suburb Mleiha

Syrian government troops captured a fiercely contested suburb of the capital Thursday after five months of heavy fighting, flushing rebels from their last hideouts and quickly moving to crush pockets of resistance in the surrounding countryside, activists and state media said. The fall of Mleiha, located some 10 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of downtown Damascus, marks the latest setback for rebels around the capital. Over the past year, the opposition has watched as one stronghold after another has either slipped into government hands or been forced to strike lopsided truces. Government troops backed by fighters from the Lebanese Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group, finally seized the town Thursday, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on activists inside Syria, said. “Mleiha is under government control, but there is still fighting in the areas surrounding the town,” said Observatory director Rami Abdurrahman.

Headline: Lebanon must rein in Hezbollah, says Syrian opposition chief

The shocking rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and its rampage across Iraq has taken attention away both from the conflict in neighboring Syria and the other organizations seeking the downfall of Bashar Al-Assad’s government. At the height of the world’s interest in the Syrian war, the Syrian National Coalition was feted by Western governments as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, an umbrella organization that sought to include all the rebel groups battling Assad under its aegis and wield them into an alternative government and military for the war-torn country. As ever, the course of events proved to be far from predictable, frustrating the Coalition’s plans for a post-Assad Syria and worsening its factional infighting. Today, the Coalition struggles to remain relevant in the face of the advance of ISIS and the resilience of Assad and his forces, which have managed—with help from regional allies—to turn the tide against the rebels in much of Syria. Asharq Al-Awsat spoke to the man elected recently to lead the Coalition, Hadi Al-Bahra, about its struggles to aid Syrians displaced by the conflict, the recent violence on the Lebanese border, and the relationship between the Coalition and the various armed groups on the ground in Syria.

Headline: Iraqi Kurds accuse local Arabs of supporting IS

The United States is asking European countries to supply arms and ammunition to Kurdish forces fighting jihadists of the Islamic State in Iraq, U.S. and European officials said, signaling a widening of the international role in the conflict. The United States has requested the arms in telephone calls with several European countries, the U.S. officials said, seeking help for Peshmerga fighters of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region who are struggling against better-armed militants of the self-styled Islamic State. Several European countries announced on Wednesday plans to send arms or ammunition: France will supply arms “in the coming hours” in response to a request from Iraq’s Kurdish leadership, President Francois Hollande’s office said. It did not say what kinds of weapons France would provide. One U.S. official briefed on the Obama administration’s plans said the United States is coordinating efforts by various allies including Britain, France and Germany to acquire and deliver arms, initially ammunition for non-U.S. weapons such as the AK-47 assault rifles that are widely used by the Kurds.

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday that the Islamist militant siege of Iraq’s Mount Sinjar had been broken and most of the U.S. military personnel sent to assess the situation would be pulled out of Iraq in the coming days. Obama, in a briefing to reporters, said he did not expect the United States to have to stage an evacuation of the mountain, where thousands of members of the Yazidi religious minority had been trapped by militants, or to continue humanitarian airdrops. “We broke the ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) siege of Mount Sinjar,” Obama said. “We helped innocent people reach safety and we helped save many innocent lives. Because of these efforts we do not expect there to be an additional operation to evacuate people off the mountain and it’s unlikely that we are going to need to continue humanitarian airdrops on the mountain.

The move threatens to broaden the front against Kurdish Peshmerga troops, who in recent days have been routed from several battlefields across northern and western Iraq. The development came as clashes erupted west of Baghdad and the United Nations announced its highest level of humanitarian emergency for the crisis-hit country. Fighting broke out in Fallujah, the city held by Islamic State which lies just 40 miles west of the capital. Headline: Out of control: ISIS and the oil market

comment****SEE MAPS BELOW FOR BOTH IRAQ AND SYRIA

The self-declared Caliphate led by Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi now covers a land area greater than Britain and a population of over six million in Syria and Iraq, the final rail in the coffin of the Sykes Picot Pact that created the post-Ottoman Arab state system. The Isis has fought and won successive battles with the Iraqi Army the Kurdish pesh merga and even the Al Qaeda affiliate Jahbat Al Nusra in Syria. It controls Syria’s oil province of Deir Zorr, the Al Shaer gas fields and the cities of Mosul and Tikrit, the vast strategic western Anbar province. The Caliphate controls most of Syria’s crude oil and gas production and has the potential to severely disrupt the strategic oil assets, refineries and pipeline networks of both the Baghdad government and the Kurdish Regional Government. Not since Biafra sought to secede from Nigeria has a major Opec oil producer faced such a serious threat of state partition as Iraq under Nuri Al Maliki in the late summer of 2014. The Isis’ Caliphate threatens not only the governments of Iraq and Syria but also threatens Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the Kurds. Its rapid conquests, its oil wealth, its genocidal sectarian agenda has made it the sworn enemy of both the Ayatollah Khomeini’s Iran and the Obama White House.

Brochures urging Muslims to leave Britain and join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group were and handed out to Oxford Street shoppers in central London, The Daily Mail reported Wednesday. The newspaper said men, who stood in front of posters declaring “the dawn of a new era has begun,” were handing out pro-ISIS brochures. “The khilafah (Caliphate) has been established,” one leaflet read, in reference to territories gained in Iraq and Syria after ISIS waged its lightening offensive in recent weeks. Another leaflet said: “We have been living in a constant state of ignorance, our lands separated, resources stolen, ummah disunited, honor humiliated and the laws of shirk established over us.” The leaflet said Muslims around the world have “many great responsibilities towards the success and spread of the khilafah across the world.” It also sets out seven rules for supporters, including to “obey” the Caliph, Sharia law, “migrate” from the UK to the caliphate and “expose lies” about the extremist group. Meanwhile, Members of Britain’s Kurdish Community have clashed with ISIS supporters in the northern English city of Sheffield, according to the Times. The Kurds were said to be outraged when they saw Gaza protesters waving the black Islamic flag that is often linked with ISIS.

Headline: Over 70 die in three days of fighting for Donetsk

Ukraine’s government forces have heavily bombarded the restive eastern city of Donetsk despite pro-Russians’ announcement of readiness for a ceasefire. Injuries have been reported following the Thursday shelling in Donetsk, which is known to be the stronghold of pro-Russia forces in Ukraine. The Kiev government forces also shelled the city on Wednesday night with local residents saying their homes have been heavily damaged. The besieged fighters in Donetsk have voiced their readiness for a ceasefire to prevent a humanitarian disaster in the area. However, the Ukrainian government has rejected their call. Meanwhile, a Russian aid convoy destined for eastern Ukraine was reported back on track despite Kiev’s warning that it will not let the convoy enter its territory.

A convoy of Russian trucks is drawing closer to Ukraine’s border as tensions between Kyiv and Moscow surrounding its purpose remain high. The convoy of nearly 300 trucks, carrying what Moscow has said is humanitarian aid, had stopped overnight in the southwestern Russian city of Voronezh as controversy swirled about its contents and final destination. According to Ukrainian media, the convoy is heading towards Izvaryne, a border crossing controlled by pro-Russian separatists, but some sources are saying it is currently idling in Russia’s Rostov region in an area some 35 kilometers away from the frontier.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei categorically rejected political negotiations with the US, cautioning that talks with Washington are harmful to Iran. “Relations with the US and negotiations with that country, except for very specific cases, don’t have any benefits for the Islamic Republic and it is even harmful; which wise person would go after a futile job,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Wednesday, addressing Iran’s diplomatic corps abroad. “Some people pretended that if we sit to the negotiating table with the Americans, many problems will be settled; of course, we knew that it is not correct but the events during the recent years has now proved this reality several times,” he added.Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the nuclear talks held between Iran and the world powers, including the US, in the current year, and said the meetings and contacts with the Americans in this period not only proved futile, but also emboldened the US officials to raise extensive demands from Tehran. “Generally speaking, it was revealed that despite the imaginations of certain people, negotiations won’t help anything,” he underlined.

South Sudanese rebels led by the former vice-president, Riek Machar have accused president Salva Kiir’s government of violating the cessation of hostilities agreement and planting landmines in the Greater Upper Nile region. In press release issued on Wednesday seen by Sudan Tribune, rebels military spokesperson Brig Lul Ruai Koang claimed that the South Sudanese army continued to violate the ceasefire deal in areas of Unity, Upper Nile and Jonglei states. “The Government of South Sudan have continued to violate the Cessation of Hostilities agreement on daily basis in Unity State in particular, and this has been manifested by attacks and occupation of relief centres in Nhialdiu in Rupkoni County and Guit County even during the distribution of relief items to the displaced,” Koang said. He said government forces had been carrying out indiscriminate shelling of villages surrounding Bentiu town which resulted in the killing of civilians. “The latest violation was committed on 12 August when the government forces attacked our positions at Kal-Jak, Maan-Kuach and Thoan military outposts in Rupkoni and Guit counties respectively,” he said. Similar violations targeting civilians, he said, were being committed in the presence of international forces and monitors in Nasir and Ayod counties in Upper Nile and Jonglei states respectively.

Headline:  Libyan Assembly Asks for UN Help as Militias Clash

Libya’s newly elected parliament asked the United Nations for an “international intervention” Wednesday as militia violence raged across the country. Libya is undergoing its worst spasm of violence since the 2011 ouster and killing of dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Thousands have fled the country, including diplomats and foreign nationals. Scores of embassies have closed down and international organizations have shut their offices. Lawmakers convened in Libya’s eastern-most city of Tobruk, far from weekslong militia battle over the international airport in the capital, Tripoli, and clashes in the country’s second-largest city, Benghazi. They adopted a resolution asking the Security Council for help. It passed with 111 votes in favor from among 124 lawmakers present. Meanwhile, random shelling in Tripoli killed three people overnight. It was not immediately clear how the U.N. would respond to the Libyan parliament plea but calls for outside help have come from many in Libya. The U.N. mission in Libya— which evacuated because of the violence — has called on warring parties to stop the violence and hold peace talks. Violence mounted when Islamist-led militias mainly from the coastal city of Misrata launched an attack on the Tripoli airport, under the control of rival militias from the mountain town of Zintan. Analysts believe that the operation came as a backlash to Islamists’ devastating loss in last parliamentarian elections and to counter a campaign in Benghazi led by a reneged army general and army units against Islamic militias.

AlgeriaAlgeria

Headline:   Morocco-Algeria: No means No

It has been many long years since Morocco began asking Algeria to open its borders. These requests have fallen on deaf ears. The Algerian response has been firm and consistent. NO. The Algerians could not be clearer: they do not want to have anything to do with Morocco.  As a matter of fact, Algeria set three impossible conditions to even start negotiating with Morocco. These conditions are that Morocco must:

1. Put a stop to what they call a “smear campaign” in the Moroccan media against Algeria

2. Show true intentions to come up with a formula to fight the alleged flow of drugs into Algeria

3. Recognize Algeria’s non-negotiable and unwavering position on the Western Sahara.

Of course the goal of these conditions is to humiliate Morocco. And what do Moroccan diplomats do in response to Algeria’s unshakable position about opening the borders? They keep asking anytime an opportunity presents itself, as if Algeria will drops these conditions out of the blue and have a change of heart and dismantle the borders. Morocco has been asking Algeria to stop supporting Polisario and let the UN handle the situation in Western Sahara. Algeria made it clear that it is not interested and will never give up on its dream to create a microstate in southern Morocco.

Headline:   Morocco Responds to Algeria’s False Accusations

Morocco, yet again, has been under vicious and unjustified attacks by its eastern neighbor. The Algerian accused Morocco of allowing illegal drug trafficking to their country. Such a claim came with no concrete evidence and only reflected how shallow Algeria is in its dealing with Morocco. The Moroccan government issued a statement denouncing those claims and criticism during a meeting held by Mr. Mohammed Hassad, Minister of Interior, and Mr. Mustapha Khalfi; government’s spokesperson and Mr. Charki Driss, Minister delegated to the Ministry of Interior. The Moroccan officials highlighted that Morocco has always complied with the international convention in fighting against drug trafficking and mentioned that the Kingdom has always been cooperating with the United Nation (UN) to reduce the areas wherein cannabis is cultivated. According to the Government, Morocco succeeded in dramatically reducing the space of cannabis fields to less than 30 thousand hectars, which is in other words, reducing the whole drug fields to less than 65%.

Despite assurances to the West, Turkey has retained the presence of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Opposition sources said ISIL has continued to operate in Turkey amid the Al Qaida wars in neighboring Iraq and Syria. They said ISIL was recruiting and training its fighters in remote areas of Turkey with the knowledge of the intelligence community. On July 30, an opposition parliamentarian demanded that the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirm details of ISIL training in Turkey. Sezin Tanrikulu, a member of the main opposition Republican People’s Party, said ISIL was operating several training camps, including one near Istanbul. “Is the claim [correct] that the group alleged to have been the Turkish branch of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has been allocated a camp ground or other places in Istanbul?” Tanrikulu asked. Tanrikulu directed his questions to Interior Minister Efkan Ala and cited a video that showed alleged ISIL members training in Turkey.

Headline: 09:37- Palestinians give Ferguson tear gas advice

Palestinian Twitter users give advice to protesters in Ferguson, Missouri on how to cope with tear gas and its effects, while others draw parallels between the St. Louis suburbs and the Gaza Strip.

“I remember when I used to get teargassed, I used to just remind myself this pain will pass as to not collapse. It helps,” tweets @MariamBarghouti, a Palestinian woman from Ramallah who studies at Birzeit University. “Always make sure to run against the wind/to keep calm when you’re teargassed, the pain will pass, don’t rub your eyes!”

It feels so weird using my experience from #Palestine and Israeli oppression to give advice to #Ferguson. Much love and solidarity!

“And of course DON’T wash your eyes with water,” adds @Rajaiabukhalil, a doctor from East Jerusalem who co-founded Physicians for Palestine.

Protests in Ferguson, rocked by racial unrest since a white police officer shot an unarmed black teenager to death, turned violent yesterday, with some people lobbing Molotov cocktails and other objects at police who responded with smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the crowd — evoking the riot dispersal methods used by Israeli security forces.

A court in Pakistan has allowed the supporters of opposition leader Imran Khan to hold a peaceful march in the capital, Islamabad. Thousands of supporters of Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, gathered in the city of Lahore on Thursday before beginning the 370-km (230-mile) journey to rally in Islamabad. Supporters of Tahir-ul-Qadri, chairman of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) political party, also left Lahore along with their leader and are expected to join Khan’s rally on the road or in Islamabad. The authorities had insisted that Qadri’s PAT march would not be permitted before relenting in the afternoon. However, a top police official in Lahore said that the government has allowed PAT to march towards Islamabad “on condition that they remain peaceful, no armed person joins the march and no participant of the march breaks any law.” It is not clear whether either march will be allowed in the heavily-guarded capital, where security has been tightened in recent days. Over 20,000 police and security forces have been deployed and almost all roads into the city have been blocked by the authorities.

Headline: Rights group says Chinese police open fire on Tibetan protesters

Chinese police have opened fire on Tibetan demonstrators in southwestern China, wounding 10 people, after the Tibetans protested against the detention of a respected village leader, a Tibetan rights group said. The crackdown in the Ganzi prefecture of Sichuan province, a flashpoint for Tibetan protests against Chinese rule, underscores simmering tensions between Tibetans and the Chinese authorities. The UK-based International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) group, citing several Tibetan sources in exile, said late on Wednesday the area “is now under tight control, with local Tibetans including the elderly and children subject to interrogation”. Photographs that circulated on social media showed Tibetans with “serious wounds on the head and torso” after the incident, the ICT said. Human rights activists say China tramples on religious freedom and culture in Tibet, which it has ruled with an iron fist since People’s Liberation Army troops “peacefully liberated” the region in 1950. China rejects such criticism, saying its rule ended serfdom and brought development to a backward, poverty-stricken region. Tibet remains tightly controlled and foreign journalists are largely banned from visiting, making it very difficult to verify independently such reports of unrest.

Headline:  Central America braces for drought-linked food crisis

Low rainfall linked to the El Nino weather phenomenon has led to drought in parts of Central America, causing widespread damage to crops, shortages and rising prices of food, and worsening hunger among the region’s poor. An unusually hot season and extended dry spells have brought drought to areas in eastern and western Guatemala and El Salvador, southern Honduras and northern and central Nicaragua, destroying swathes of bean and maize crops, the region’s staple foods, and putting pressure on subsistence farmers and food prices. “Extremely poor households across large areas of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador will experience a rapid deterioration in their food security in early 2015. “Atypically high levels of humanitarian assistance, possibly the highest since Hurricane Mitch in 1998, will likely be required in order to avoid a food crisis,” said a recent report by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), run by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Thousands of families in the region have become too poor to buy enough food for survival because poor harvests are pushing up prices of staple foods while coffee producers are hiring fewer seasonal coffee pickers and paying lower wages because of a coffee leaf rust or roya epidemic across Central America. In Nicaragua and Honduras, red bean prices rose by up to 129 percent between January and June 2014, according to FEWS NET. Other livelihoods in Central America, including fishing and livestock breeding, have also been hard hit by the recent drought and the El Nino weather phenomenon, FEWS NET said.

North Korea fired three short-range rockets off its east coast on Thursday, South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said, shortly before Pope Francis arrived in Seoul on his first visit to Asia. The rockets were fired from multiple launchers in the North Korean port city of Wonsan and traveled 220 km (135 miles) before landing in waters east of the Korean peninsula, a defense ministry official said. The last rocket was fired 35 minutes before Pope Francis was due to arrive at an air base in Seoul, where the pontiff started a five-day visit to South Korea. The launches came ahead of U.S.-South Korean military exercises scheduled to start on Monday. Seoul and Washington say the exercises are defensive in nature but North Korea regularly protests against the drills, which it sees as a rehearsal for war.

Headline: ‘Storm Of Historic Proportions’ Dumps 13 Inches Of Rain In Some Spots Of Long Island

Multiple local government agencies on Long Island declared states of emergency Wednesday after a storm dumped nearly an entire summer’s worth of rain, causing major flooding in some spots that stranded motorists and snarled the morning commute. From Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning, Islip got more than 13 inches of rain, more than the normal total for June, July and August of 11.75 inches, said Joe Pollina of the National Weather Service. A state of emergency was declared in Suffolk County, where county Executive Steve Bellone called the weather Wednesday morning a “storm of historic proportions.” “It was unprecedented and unpredicted — the size, the extent, the scale,” Bellone said at a news conference Wednesday, also remarking that “this could be a 500-year storm we just witnessed.”

Headline: Netanyahu summons senior ministers for ‘prep’ talks

Representatives of Palestinian Arab terror organizations and an Israeli delegation were to resume “gruelling” negotiations in Cairo on Tuesday aimed at ending the Gaza conflict, as Egyptian mediators raced to narrow gaps between the warring sides. In Monday’s indirect talks, Israel’s delegation pushed for the disarmament of terror groups in the coastal enclave, a demand the Palestinians rejected outright, officials from the two sides said. Israeli negotiators sought an extension of a 72-hour truce in Gaza that began Monday to allow for further talks, but Egyptian mediators wanted to reach a deal as soon as possible, Palestinian delegation members said. Palestinian members of the delegation said Israel had offered to ease restrictions at two of six border crossings, one for travellers and the other for goods under international monitor supervision. All sides agreed that it would be left to Cairo and the Palestinians to decide on the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, they said. Palestinian Authority forces loyal to president Mahmud Abbas would deploy along Gaza’s border with Israel, the officials said. “The negotiations are difficult and gruelling,” one of the officials said of Monday’s talks, which lasted for more than nine hours. Negotiations were set to resume at around noon at the headquarters of Egypt’s General Intelligence, which has brokered past ceasefires between Hamas and Israel.

Headline: Hamas Brags of Holding Israel ‘At Gunpoint’ in Talks

Headline: Hamas Clarifies Truce Would Only Be to Plan Next War

In a newly translated interview, Hamas spokesperson Husam Badran declared that his terror organization is holding truce talks in Cairo with Israel being held “at gunpoint” to accept the group’s demands. Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated the interview from Al Jazeera, which is sponsored by Qatar, a key provider of Hamas funds. In it, Badran relates being asked in jail in 2002 by then-deputy head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Service) whether Hamas will ever negotiate with Israel. “I said to him outright: If we ever negotiate with you, whether directly or indirectly, we will do so with our weapons in our hands. If we get what we want, so be it. If not, we will shoot you in the chest. What I said back then is how Hamas negotiates now,” stated Badran. The Hamas spokesperson also clarified that his organization “began preparing for this confrontation the day the 2012 war ended,” a reference to the last counter-terror operation in Gaza, Operation Pillar of Defense. Meanwhile, Even as Israeli representatives are in Cairo to discuss a truce with Hamas on Tuesday, the terrorist group is taking pains to clarify it has no intentions of desisting from trying to wipe Israel off the map. Hamas’s “military wing,” the Al-Qassam Brigades, released a statement presenting its position on the ongoing talks in Egypt. “The warriors in Gaza are waiting with Allah’s help to renew the fighting, or to return to planning the next campaign. There’s no escape. Either jihad or planning (for the next jihad),” declared the statement.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the “military wing” of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party, has threatened to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel, including the kidnapping of IDF soldiers. In a newly released video filmed in Gaza, members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades are seen in a warehouse where weapons and dozens of rockets are stored. One of the activists, who is wearing a mask, tells the camera that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades supports the demands of the Palestinian delegation for talks on a ceasefire with Israel, adding that Israel must accept all these demands. He further stresses the organization’s determination to carry out “quality attacks” against Israel, including the kidnapping of soldiers in order to free all the “prisoners” who are serving time in Israeli prisons.

As the Iranian press flouted the regime’s support of Hamas, to which it sent Fajr-5 missiles and Ababil drones for use against Israel, Al-Qadoumi recognized Iran’s support, saying, “We hope to be able to make our missiles more advanced with the help of the knowledgeable Iranians.”

Headline: UK says to suspend some Israel arms exports if Gaza truce fails

Britain said on Tuesday it would suspend 12 licences to export military items to Israel, including tank, aircraft and radar parts, if hostilities with Hamas in Gaza resumed, citing concerns the exports may be used to breach international laws. Britain said last week it was reviewing all arms export licenses to Israel after fierce fighting which has resulted in heavy civilian casualties in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. That review concluded on Tuesday that 12 licenses would be temporarily suspended pending further investigation if the current truce breaks down and heavy fighting resumes. “The UK government has not been able to clarify if the export license criteria are being met,” Business Secretary Vince Cable said in a statement. “In light of that uncertainty, we have taken the decision to suspend these existing export licenses in the event of a resumption of significant hostilities.”

Anti-Israel activists belonging to the Irish éirígí political party storm an ASDA supermarket in Belfast yesterday, calling for a boycott of Israeli goods and removal of Israeli-linked products from the shelves. The activists, whose party supports a British withdrawal from northern Ireland, team up with pro-Palestinian activists to hold a protest inside the West Belfast supermarket, holding up Palestinian flags and placards and chanting slogans such as “Boycott Israeli goods,” “Free, free Palestine,” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” One placard, bearing the phrase “It’s not war, it’s genocide,” portrays Israel as the grim reaper, its bloody scythe hovering over a bombed-out Gaza. Meanwhile, other activists, including children, storm the supermarket’s aisles, filling up their carts with Israel-related products and “destocking” the shelves. éirígí releases a video of the event, along with a statement saying that “purchasing Israeli products provides support to the Israeli economy, which in turn lends support to the Israeli state and its murderous campaign against the Palestinian people.”

Army Commander Gen. The command will not bargain over the blood of its martyrs and wounded or the freedom of its missing soldiers,” Kahwagi told a delegation representing the families of missing personnel who visited him at the ministry of defense in Yarze. Kahwagi said the command “will resort to all available means to ensure their release without delay.” “The Army is ready for all possibilities in order to secure the safety of its missing personnel, and to bring them back to their families and their institution,” Kahwagi added. Meanwhile, A long chain of criticism delayed the settlement reached between the government, Lebanese military and Sunni fundamentalist gunmen to end the clashes in Arsal. Yet, ministerial and partisan figures directly engaged in the agreement confirmed to Al-Monitor that “the matter is not yet over, and that the truce declared on the night of Thursday, Aug. 7, marked no more than the conclusion of the first round of the war.”

On the heels of reports that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) promised funds to Hamas in order to procure the current 72-hour ceasefire, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal openly pledged $500 million to “rebuild” Gaza. Speaking at an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, al-Faisal accused Israel of trying “to wipe off Palestinian existence,” and blamed the world for supporting “Israel’s savagery against the people of Gaza.” Calling for Arab unity at a time when internecine bloodbaths are raging throughout the Middle East, al-Faisal urged the Arab nations to stand together on “one line” to oppose Israel. “Divisions among Islamic nations are causing civil strife, leading Israel to repeat its crimes,” said al-Faisal, recommending Arab countries “support all Egyptian efforts to stop the aggression.” “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia considers the Palestinian cause its primary cause,” boasted the Saudi foreign minister, announcing that his country would provide $500 million in funding to “rebuild” Gaza.

Headline: Egypt-Saudis talks address billions in military aid, cooperation on securing Gulf Arab states

Egypt has submitted a request for billions of dollars in additional aid from Saudi Arabia. Diplomatic sources said the regime of President Abdul Fatah Sisi discussed a plan for Egypt to help bolster security of Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies. They said Sisi, who met Saudi King Abdullah, sought in return billions of dollars for Egypt’s military and defense industry sector. The Egyptian plan was high on the agenda of Sisi’s visit,” a source said. On Aug. 10, Sisi met the Saudi king during the president’s visit to Jedda. Few details were released, but officials said Abdullah and Sisi focused on security cooperation. “Whatever concerns Egypt is of concern to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Saudi National Guard Minister Prince Mitab, the king’s son, said. The sources said Abdullah and Sisi discussed Egyptian operations to help Riyad counter Iranian influence in the Gulf. They said the two men envisioned that Egypt and Saudi Arabia would lead an Arab strategy against Teheran and its proxies. “The talks also reviewed the developments in Iraq and the impact of terrorist operations on the country and the region,” Egyptian presidential spokesman Ihab Badawi said. During Sisi’s visit, Saudi Arabia briefed the United Arab Emirates on Egypt’s plan. The UAE sent Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for a late-night meeting in Jedda with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Saud Al Faisal. So far, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have relayed some $20 billion in aid to Egypt. The assistance was said to have helped Egypt purchase naval vessels from Europe and air defense systems from Russia.

Headline: Syrian Kurdish fighters rescue stranded Yazidis

In a dusty camp here, Iraqi refugees have new heroes: Syrian Kurdish fighters who battled militants to carve out an escape route for tens of thousands trapped on a mountaintop. While the U.S. and Iraqi militaries struggle to aid the starving members of Iraq’s Yazidi minority with supply drops from the air, the Syrian Kurds took it on themselves to rescue them. The move underlined how they — like Iraqi Kurds — are using the region’s conflicts to establish their own rule. For the past few days, fighters have been rescuing Yazidis from the mountain, transporting them into Syrian territory to give them first aid, food and water, and returning some to Iraq via a pontoon bridge. The (Kurdish fighters) opened a path for us. If they had not, we would still be stranded on the mountain,” said Ismail Rashu, 22, in the Newroz camp in the Syrian Kurdish town of Malikiya some 20 miles (30 kilometers) from the Iraqi border. Families had filled the battered, dusty tents here and new arrivals sat in the shade of rocks, sleeping on blue plastic sheets. Camp officials estimated that at least 2,000 families sought shelter there on Sunday evening.

Headline: Syrian Forces Advance on Aleppo

Syrian government forces are advancing on Aleppo, aiming to besiege the rebel-held city into submission in what would be the biggest blow yet to the three-year uprising. The fall of Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and economic hub before the fighting, could also bolster the ranks of Islamic State militants who continue to make gains across the country, as defeated rebels from the Western-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) switch to their side. Rebel commanders (FSA) in Aleppo say they’ve started to stockpile goods as aid groups step up food deliveries–crates of lentils, rice, ketchup and baby formula–seeking to prevent the same kind of mass starvation that forced them to surrender the much smaller city of Homs in May. Regime forces now encircle most of Aleppo and are trying to seal off a 4-mile access point that rebels control in the northeast of the city. Simultaneously, jihadists with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, are approaching from the north and uprooting the FSA from Aleppo’s countryside.

Headline: Ukraine to Deny Access to Russian Aid Convoy

A Russian convoy of 280 trucks carrying “humanitarian supplies” was headed to conflict-torn east Ukraine on Tuesday, despite warnings from the West that Moscow could be using the mission as a guise to sneak in troops. Russian President Vladimir Putin had on Monday justified the mission citing “catastrophic consequences” of Ukraine’s offensive against insurgents in eastern Ukraine, and said Moscow was working in collaboration with the Red Cross. But the international aid agency said on Tuesday there was still no agreement on the issue and France insisted such convoys should not be allowed to cross the border unless they met strict conditions, including Red Cross approval. Suspicions about Russia’s intentions are running high in the West which has accused Moscow of fanning the insurgency in eastern Ukraine by supplying pro-Russian separatists with arms. Meanwhile, Ukraine says it will not allow a convoy of 280 trucks reportedly carrying humanitarian aid from Russia to enter its territory.

Pro-Russian fighters in the east of Ukraine say they are ready for a military engagement with the government forces in the city of Donetsk. Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk is under heavy bombardment of government forces as Ukrainian troops tighten their grip on the strongholds of pro-Russian fighters. The newly-elected Prime Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Alexander Zakharchenko, on Saturday called for a ceasefire with Kiev to prevent a possible “humanitarian catastrophe” but added that if the Ukrainian army moves into Donetsk the pro-Russians will hold their ground. “We are ready to have a ceasefire to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe, but will not surrender under any circumstances,” said Zakharchenko in a written statement. “The fight will be for every street, for every house, for every meter of our land,” he added. He warned that such circumstance would turn the city into a new “Stalingrad,” a reference to the Soviet Union’s refusal to surrender the city of Stalingrad to the Nazis during World War II.

Headline:  Iran slams Egypt for stalling to green light aid shipment

Iran blamed Egypt for stalling to grant permission for the delivery of supplies to the Gaza Strip, Iranian state-run Press TV reported on Tuesday. Iranian official Hossein Amir-Abdollahian charged Egyptian officials of refusing to approve Tehran’s request to transfer, via Egypt, a shipment of what the Islamic Republic said was medical and humanitarian aid for Palestinians injured in Israeli strikes. To get aid across, Iran would have to fly its shipments to Egypt and then cross by land through the Rafah border into Gaza. The only other option would be to go through Israel, an unlikely scenario for Iran. The Iranian deputy foreign minister said more than two weeks after the the request was made for the delivery of 100 tons in aid supplies, Egypt had still not positively responded to it. Iran’s appeal also reportedly included a request to transfer wounded Gazans to the Islamic Republic for treatment.

Ali Shamkhani, secretary and representative of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks at a meeting of Iranian ambassadors in Tehran, the Fars and Mehr news agencies said. “The framework provided by the Iraqi constitution stipulates that the prime minister has been chosen by the majority group in the parliament,” Shamkhani said. In an apparent message to Maliki, Shamkhani invited “all Iraqi factions to yield to the rule of law and unite toward their national interests … at a sensitive time” when the country is facing foreign threats, Reuters news agency reported.

Headline: ISIS Turns Saudi Arabia and Iran Into Allies (& the US too)

The growing power of Sunni Islamic terrorist group ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) in the last year has caused the Saudis and Iranians to pause their growing Sunni-Shia feud because both countries have more to fear from ISIL and its rabid brand of Sunni Islamic terrorism than from each other. Signs of this unofficial truce can be seen in several ways. Saudi Arabia has backed off on its anti-Iran propaganda and is quietly cooperating with Iran to deal with ISIL advances in Syria and Iraq. Iran reciprocated when it recently ordered the shutdown of several semi-legal satellite TV channels run by some rabidly anti-Sunni (but high ranking) Shia clerics. While Shia Moslems like to believe that their form of Islam is the best one, they also have to live (or die) with the fact that only about ten percent of all Moslems are Shia and 80 percent are Sunni.

The Obama administration is thinking about sending additional military advisers to Iraq as it ramps up efforts to consider how to get thousands of Yazidi Iraqis off Sinjar Mountain and how to boost the capabilities of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters in northern Iraq, a U.S. official said Tuesday. The official did not want to be named because no decisions have been made yet. But consideration is being given to sending as many as 75 additional American military personnel to Iraq, a second U.S. military official told CNN. Currently, 250 U.S. military personnel are in Iraq and are directly involved in the already-approved mission of running two joint operations centers and assessing the capabilities of Iraqi forces. However, the first U.S. official said, their job is expanding to consider evacuation options and the needs of the Peshmerga.

Headline: Iraq militants changing tactics, complicating US airstrike mission

Islamic militant forces in northern Iraq appear to be shifting tactics in the face of the newly launched U.S. airstrike campaign, Defense officials say, posing a new challenge to the Obama administration as it seeks to at least slow the terrorists’ advances. According to officials, until now the Islamic State (IS) was behaving like a well-organized army, moving with strategic intent and pursuing military objectives. Now, officials are seeing at least a partial shift to classic insurgency tactics, as militants begin to blend in among the population, making targeting more difficult. “One of the things that we have seen with the [IS] forces is that where they have been in the open, they are now starting to dissipate and to hide amongst the people,” Lt. Gen. William Mayville Jr., director for operations with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said. “The targeting in this is going to become more difficult.”

Headline: UN Security Council envoys in S.Sudan to push for peace

UN Security Council ambassadors met the leaders of South Sudan’s warring sides on Tuesday in a bid to end eight months of conflict that has pushed the young nation to the brink of famine. Brandishing the threat of sanctions, the diplomats arrived in the capital on a two-day visit to “engage with leaders” and witness “the humanitarian crisis first hand,” British Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said. Thousands of people have been killed and over 1.5 million have fled almost eight months of carnage, sparked by a power struggle between President Salva Kiir and his sacked deputy Riek Machar, with battles between government troops, mutinous soldiers and ragtag militia forces divided by tribe. The ambassadors are due to meet with Kiir before flying to the northern town of Malakal, one of the hardest hit areas in the fighting. The town was left in ruins, swapping hands several times between government and rebels. Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial told reporters that the diplomats would be “shown what South Sudan is doing with regard to peace.” The UN Security Council last week threatened to slap sanctions on leaders of both sides if fighting continues.

Turkey doesn’t take ISIS threats concerning the Ataturk dam seriously, said Turkish energy minister on Monday in Ankara, responding to a warning issued by the ISIS that they would invade Istanbul should Turkey continue to hold water in the Euphrates river in southeastern Turkey via the Ataturk dam. Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz replied: “Turkey makes its own decisions about energy policy. I do not take it seriously as Turkey sees Baghdad as the partner to negotiate with.” ISIS militants seized 49 Turkish consulate staff, including the consul-general and family members, in the Iraqi city of Mosul. Police in riot gear fired tear gas into a crowd of protesters in a St. Louis suburb where an unarmed black teenager had been fatally shot by police over the weekend, as tension rose even amid calls for collective calm. Between two nights of unrest, a community forum hosted by the local NAACP chapter Monday night drew hundreds to a sweltering church in Ferguson, the nearly 70 percent black St. Louis County suburb where an unarmed 18-year-old, Michael Brown, was shot multiple times by a police officer. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said a large crowd that gathered throughout Monday at the site of a burned-out convenience store turned rowdy at nightfall, throwing rocks at police. Officers used tear gas and shot “beanbag rounds” meant to stun them, he said. St. Louis County police spokesman Brian Schellman said there were at least five arrests and no reports of looting. Nearly three dozen people were arrested following a candlelight vigil Sunday night when crowds burned stores, vandalized vehicles, assaulted reporters and taunted officers. “People are tired. They have reached the end of their rope,” said Ruth Latchison Nichols after the NAACP forum, where many more were left waiting outside once the pews reached capacity. “Enough is enough. This is a state of emergency.” Early Tuesday, the streets of Ferguson were once again calm. A handful of police officers sat in patrol cars near a burned out gas station, vastly outnumbered by the news crews putting together their early reports.

More than 100 civilians and several soldiers have been killed during clashes between Nigerian military forces and Takfiri Boko Haram militants in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State.
A military official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said on Tuesday that Nigerian government forces on Monday tried in vain to regain control over the border town of Gwoza, situated about 135 kilometers (83 miles) southeast of the state capital of Maiduguri. The town has been under Boko Haram control for more than a week. “The sheer number of the militants and the fact that they were heavily armed prompted the ground troops to request for reinforcements from the air force,” the military official said. The notorious Takfiri group Boko Haram has repeatedly targeted Nigerian civilians, mostly in Borno, killing more than 2,000 civilians since January.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused Pakistan of waging “proxy war” by sending militants to attack India and he used a trip to the disputed Kashmir region to stress that reconciliation between the nuclear-armed neighbors needs peace. Making his second visit since his election triumph in May to the northern region, Modi vowed to strengthen India’s armed forces. “The neighboring country has lost the strength to fight a conventional war but continues to engage in the proxy war of terrorism,” Modi told officers and men from the army and air force in the Himalayan region of Leh. There are regular clashes on the Line of Control that divides Kashmir, however, and Modi has made it clear that bilateral dialogue depends on the guns falling silent. Modi, whose speech to troops in Leh was televised, did not give any details of Pakistan’s “proxy war”. Pakistan says it only gives political support to the Muslim people of Kashmir who it says face human rights abuses at the hands of Indian troops. India denies that.

This comes as two opposition parties are planning a march from the eastern city of Lahore to the capital Islamabad on the country’s Independence Day. The mass rally called by dissident cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri is planned for Thursday, on the same day that an opposition protest is announced by opposition leader Imran Khan in the capital. In response to the planned demonstrations, the government has deployed thousands of security personnel and police officers in major cities across Pakistan. A Press TV correspondent said on Monday that authorities have also decided to shut down petrol stations and big markets in Lahore to prevent the march. Headline: S&P downgrades Canada’s biggest banks to ‘negative’ rating

Ratings agency S&P has downgraded Canada’s biggest banks to “negative” over concerns about the federal government’s stance on possible bailouts in the future. The decision hinges on concerns that Ottawa will be reluctant to bail out large financial institutions in the event of another major economic meltdown, and would instead opt for a “bail in” regime that would not use taxpayer money. “The outlook revision reflects our expectation of reduced potential for extraordinary government support,” wrote credit analyst Lidia Parfeniuk in a note released Friday. A week earlier, Ottawa launched a public consultation on the bail-in proposal that’s scheduled to wrap up on Sept. 12. The revised outlook covered all of the major Canadian financial institutions, Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY), Toronto-Dominion Bank (TSX:TD), Bank of Nova Scotia (TSX:BNS), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (TSX:CM), Bank of Montreal (TSX:BMO) and National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA). The ratings agency said its revision is hinged on the possibility that the bail-in policy could lead it to lower its ratings on the banks within two years. The S&P revision comes after fellow credit ratings firm Moody’s Investor Services shifted its sentiment last month.

Headline: BRICS Launches New Development Bank

In July, nations known as the “BRICS,” Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, announced the creation of a new, $100 billion development bank (NDB). The project is aimed at lending money to developing nations for investments, much like how the American and European-backed International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank operate.
Liu Haifang, a professor at Peking University’s Center for African Studies, said the bank will provide developing countries with more options for financing. “Finally they got some alternative sources to get funding for infrastructure and they do not come with these conditionalities. So it for me is very symbolic in terms of political meaning, it means the whole world order is not unipolar. It is not a west centered world. It is a multipolar world.  African countries trying to get funding do not have to only follow the rules of the developed world,” said Liu Haifang. The “rules of the developed world” Liu refered to are the conditions that the IMF sets forth in exchange for access to loans. Instead of putting up collateral, governments must follow economic policies prescribed by the IMF.BRICS nations have 40 percent of the world’s population and 20 percent of global economic output. However, they have been blocked from gaining greater voting rights at the IMF, largely because of opposition in the U.S. Congress.

The dispute has strained relations Japan and Russia since World War Two, when Soviet forces occupied the four islands at the southern end of the Kurile chain. The agreement was inked Tuesday during a visit to Sydney by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Pentagon Chief Chuck Hagel, the finalization of a 2011 deal seen as a key part of the U.S. rebalance to Asia. The deal will put 2,500 Marines in Darwin by 2017. Kerry said the agreement will help Australia and the U.S. deal with regional security issues of mutual importance. “We do face new challenges. A Spanish missionary priest being treated for Ebola died Tuesday in a Madrid hospital, authorities said. Spain’s Health Ministry said a day earlier that it had obtained a course of the U.S.-made experimental Ebola drug ZMapp to treat Father Miguel Pajares, 75. Pajares died Tuesday at Carlos III Hospital, the hospital and his order said. The hospital would not confirm that he had been treated with the drug, but his order said earlier that he would be. He is one of only three Ebola patients thought to have received the experimental drug. The others are two Americans evacuated to Atlanta. Pajares, who was treating people with Ebola at the San Jose de Monrovia Hospital in Liberia when he became infected, was evacuated to Spain on Thursday. He worked for the San Juan de Dios hospital order, a Spain-based Catholic humanitarian group that runs hospitals around the world. The World Health Organization says that now, the death toll in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has passed 1,000. The U.N. health agency said in a news release Monday that 1,013 people have died in the outbreak, which has hit Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and possibly Nigeria. Authorities have recorded 1,848 suspected, probable or confirmed cases of the disease, which causes a high fever, vomiting and bleeding. The outbreak was first identified in March in Guinea, but it likely started months earlier.

Headline: One Ebola drug tapped out after experimental doses

In the battle against the Ebola outbreak, the experimental treatment ZMapp had offered hope, but its manufacturer now says its supply has been exhausted. Manufacturer Mapp Biopharmaceutical told Bloomberg News that it is bringing “additional resources” to scale up production, but that its stores of the treatment have been depleted after sending the drug to Africa. The drug was provided at no cost, it said. Nigeria and Liberia are among the countries that had requested the treatment, with the company telling Bloomberg it had complied with every request for the drug that was authorized by legal and regulatory authorities. The treatment was given to the two American aid workers who have since been transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, and a Spanish missionary priest, who died Tuesday. “It is our understanding that all patients offered treatment, treated, or expected to be treated were or are highly capable of providing informed consent for the use of an experimental drug not yet evaluated for safety in animals or people,” the company said in a statement.

Headline:  Detroit area hit by severe flooding; 1 woman dies

A woman died when her vehicle became stranded in 3 feet of water in suburban Detroit, after heavy rain across southeastern Michigan left many roads impassable. Fearing more motorists could become stranded a day after a storm dumped more than 6 inches of rain in some places in and around Detroit, the state warned commuters against driving in affected areas Tuesday morning. Warren Mayor James Fouts said roughly 1,000 vehicles had been abandoned in floodwaters in the suburb where many roads were closed after 5.2 inches of rain fell Monday. He said he was seeking state help for residents dealing with the “overwhelming” and “catastrophic” flooding. Fouts said a woman apparently died of cardiac arrest when her vehicle got stuck in floods. He did not name the woman or say when she died. The Associated Press left a message for Fouts seeking more information.
