Recent corruption scandals may jeopardize stability in the West Bank, with Palestinians turning their ire on the Palestinian Authority and not just Israel, an Arab intelligence source told Breitbart Jerusalem. The Palestinian media reported this week that cronies of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, presidential advisor Mahmoud Al-Habash, and Director of Intelligence Majed Faraj, were appointed to lofty public positions amid mounting unemployment among university graduates. It was reported that Habash’s son was hired as a state prosecutor even though he graduated from university with a mediocre overall grade of 53 percent. Rattled by the public outcry, PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ associates went on the defensive and accused his challenger, Fatah strongman Mohammed Dahlan, of waging a smear campaign against the president. The Arab source said that intelligence reviews indicate that Abbas’ popularity hit rock bottom against the backdrop of the corruption scandals and the diplomatic stalemate vis-à-vis Israel. He added that a popular uprising in the West Bank is not an unlikely scenario – only that this time it could be directed against Abbas and not just Israel. “The Palestinian Authority that has so far proved immune to the Arab Spring could witness the rise of a popular resistance movement, a ‘Palestinian Spring’ that would seek to expunge Abbas along with corruption at the top,” he said.

Meanwhile, Turkey will continue to meet with Palestinian group Hamas in its efforts to promote a long-lasting peace in the region, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday, adding the meetings were not an obstacle in the normalization of ties with Israel.
Turkey and Israel have said they are close to patching up a six-year-old political rift caused when Israeli commandoes killed 10 Turkish activists while storming the Mavi Marmara, a ship in a convoy seeking to break an Israeli naval blockade of the Palestinian territory of Gaza. Turkey has demanded Israel apologize, pay compensation and lift the Gaza blockade. For Israel, limiting Hamas activity in Turkey has been key.

The explosives-laden vehicle exploded a few hundred meters from a camp for Syrian refugees in a desolate eastern area of the country where the borders of Iraq, Syria and Jordan meet, a Jordanian army statement said. A Jordanian official source said the attack was launched from the Syrian side of the border. The army said a number of other vehicles used in the attack were destroyed, adding that a number of army personnel had been wounded. The attack that took place at 5.30 a.m. (0230 GMT). Meanwhile, Jordan has declared its border regions with Syria and Iraq to be closed military zones after a suicide bombing on Tuesday that killed six soldiers.

Headline: Yemen rebels advance on key southern air base
A Saudi-led military coalition said it intercepted a missile fired in Yemen on Tuesday and residents said an air strike by the alliance caused eight civilian casualties, straining a civil war ceasefire. The ballistic missile was fired towards the central city of Marib, which is controlled by Saudi-backed government forces, but was intercepted and destroyed along with the source of the launch, the coalition said in a statement without elaborating. Residents in a mountainous area of Lahj province said a Saudi-led air strike late on Monday targeted Houthi forces who advanced into the area the day before, causing eight civilian casualties. It was not clear how many of those may have been killed. A coalition spokesperson did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The strategic Jalis mountain area is near Al Anad, a major military and air base that once hosted US counterterrorism forces deployed to fight Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. In the town of Jaar, about 60km east of Anad, residents said AQAP fighters mobilised at the local prison and freed several inmates.

Egypt’s President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi announced that Tiran and Sanafir would be transferred in April, during a visit by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman. More than 150 people were jailed in connection with protests over the deal, though many were later acquitted or had their sentences reduced on appeal. The Egyptian government has said it will challenge Tuesday’s ruling. On Tuesday, Egypt’s State Council, an administrative court, issued a verdict annulling April’s maritime borders agreement between Cairo and Riyadh. The maritime border agreement signed earlier this year between Egypt and Saudi Arabia took many Egyptians by surprise. Since then, protesters have taken to the streets calling the arrangement unconstitutional, and accusing the government of giving away Egyptian territories in return for aid packages and investments worth billions of dollars from Saudi Arabia, a strong backer of President Sisi. Some of these protesters were arrested and charged with disrupting public order. A few are still behind bars.

Syria Headline: Air raids kill 25 civilians in ISIS stronghold in Syria
Warplanes have bombed ISIS’s de facto Syrian capital Raqqa, killing at least 25 civilians, after the extremist drove pro-government forces out of their bastion northern province. Twin offensives aimed at severing the extremists’ supply line from the Turkish border to Raqqa city appear to have largely stalled as ISIS mounts a fierce defense using suicide bombers. Six children were among the 25 civilians killed in bombing raids on Raqqa city late Tuesday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. “Dozens more were wounded, some of them critically,” said the British-based monitoring group, which was not immediately able to determine who had carried out the raids. The Syrian government, its longtime ally Russia and a U.S.-led coalition have all carried out air strikes against ISIS in Raqqa. The Observatory said there were fresh air strikes – apparently by the coalition – on the city on Wednesday, one of which hit the town hall.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a new offensive in the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor on Wednesday that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at Jabal Thardeh. ISIS began the offensive by launching three VBIEDs at the Syrian Arab Army’s positions near the southwestern perimeter Jabal Thardeh; however, these terrorist attacks were all repelled before they could reach their intended targets. Following the failed VBIED attack, ISIS stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at Jabal Thardeh, resulting in an intense battle that lasted for over 90 minutes on Wednesday.

Iraqi commander said Wednesday that Fallujah is almost cleared of ISIL Takfiri terrorists, noting that Iraqi forces are facing resistance from holdout insurgents in just two northern neighborhoods of the city. “The northern and central parts of Fallujah have almost been cleared of Daesh,” the operation’s overall commander Lieutenant General Abdulwahab al-Saadi told AFP, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL. “There are few ISIL militants left, only in the Al-Muallemin and Jolan neighborhoods in the north of the city,” he said. “The militants in Jolan are offering some resistance but we’re pushing back and we’ve killed a number of them,” he said. Turkish warplanes struck Kurdish militant targets in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey overnight Wednesday, and authorities imposed new curfews in rural areas as the army and police continue to battle insurgents, security sources said. The air strikes in Kurdish-run northern Iraq destroyed targets belonging to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), including shelters and weapon stores. The jets also hit sites near the Turkish towns of Lice, northeast of the regional capital of Diyarbakir, and Semdinli, further east near the Iraqi border, sources said. Some 25 villages near Lice were put under a round-the-clock curfew Tuesday after authorities determined PKK militants were sheltering and keeping weapons there, the Diyarbakir governor’s office said. On Wednesday, new curfews were imposed in villages in Mus and Bingol provinces and near the town of Beytussebap, where three police officers were hurt in a gunfight, security sources said.

The EU will open new membership talks with Turkey as planned in a few days, EU diplomatic sources said Wednesday, just as Ankara’s accession becomes a hot-button issue in Britain’s vote on its future in the bloc. One source, who asked not to be named, told AFP that EU member states will meet June 30 to agree to open a new negotiating chapter with Turkey on finance and budget affairs. A British spokesperson in Brussels said the decision was procedural and followed up a pledge made by European Union leaders in March to open another accession chapter with Turkey. “In March, all member states agreed to open Chapter 33, during the Netherlands (six-month EU) presidency. This is a technical step to implement that agreement,” the spokesperson said. EU leaders at a summit in March agree to speed up Turkey’s long-stalled membership talks as part of an accord with Ankara on tackling the migration crisis, promising to open at least one new chapter by the end of June when the Netherlands presidency finishes. The issue however has become caught up in the campaign for Thursday’s bitterly-fought Brexit referendum amid charges by the “Leave” camp that accession will allow millions of Turks into the country.

The government of Eritrea told the U.N. Human Rights Council that its neighbor Ethiopia is planning to launch a full scale war against its territory. Eritrean and Ethiopian troops recently clashed along their border. The countries are blaming one another for starting recent hostilities that included heavy border fighting around the Tserona central front, an area located south of the Eritrean capital, Asmara. Girma Asmerom Tesfay, Eritrea’s U.N. Permanent Representative, said that there is clear evidence that Ethiopia has adopted a hostile policy towards his country. “The evidence is their own statement that they have made in their parliament, and a lot of [Ethiopian] officials have been saying… that they will attack Eritrea, they will take military action, they have changed their policy towards Eritrea, they will go for a regime change…support opposition armed groups to attack,” Ambassador Asmerom told VOA. He said that the June 12th confrontation between the two countries is further evidence that Ethiopia is seeking regime change and seeks occupation of his country. “There was a major military engagement and aggression by Ethiopia using tanks, artilleries and ground forces,” he said.

South Africa’s capital was tense on Wednesday after residents torched buses and looted shops overnight, police said, in clashes sparked by the ruling party’s choice of a mayoral candidate for local polls. At least 26 people have been confirmed killed in a series of violence which broke out early this week in central Nigeria’s Benue State, local authorities said on Wednesday. Three local districts have so far been affected by the attacks suspected to be a perpetration of local herdsmen in the state, said Michael Oguwche, a traditional chief in Anyii, one of the three attacked villages. According to the local chief, the gunmen had first attacked Vase Village on Monday, before moving to the two other villages to wreak havoc late Tuesday and early Wednesday. He said the sequence of the attacks on Vase Village, Uzzar Village and his village showed that they were coordinated. More than 30 people sustained various degrees of injuries from the attacks, he added. Local police have confirmed the attacks, saying riot policemen were deployed to put the situation under control.

Headline: Congo declares yellow fever epidemic, 1,000 suspected cases
Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday declared a yellow fever epidemic in three provinces, including the capital Kinshasa, after confirming 67 cases of the disease, with another 1,000 suspected cases being monitored. Health Minister Felix Kabange said only seven of the proven cases were indigenous to the Central African country, while 58 were imported from Angola, where the outbreak began. A further two cases came from remote forested areas not linked to the current outbreak. Five people in total have died, Kabange added. “I declare today a localized epidemic of yellow fever in the provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo Central and Kwango,” Kabange told a news conference. Kinshasa is the primary concern for global health officials since it has a densely-packed population of more than 12 million and poor healthcare infrastructure.

Headline: Egyptian mob reportedly burns 80 Christian homes on rumor of new church
An angry crowd of Muslims reportedly looted and burned the homes of 80 Christian families in an Egyptian village Friday after rumors circulated that they wanted to build a church. Christian media reported the violence taking place in the village of Qarayat al Bayda, near Alexandria, quoting witnesses who claimed police did little to protect them. The alleged violence began after noon prayers, when a throng of Muslims gathered in the front of a home being built, Mousa Zarif told International Christian Concern. “They were chanting slogans against us,” Zarif said. “Among these slogans were, ‘By no means shall there be a church here.'” Egypt is roughly 85 percent Muslim and Coptic Christians have long faced persecution in the Arab nation. The village in which the attacks were reported to have occurred has no Christian churches, according to International Christian Concern. The incident prompted renewed calls for the government in Cairo to do more to protect religious minorities.

The banking password may be about to expire — forever. Some of the nation’s largest banks, acknowledging that traditional passwords are either too cumbersome or no longer secure, are increasingly using fingerprints, facial scans and other types of biometrics to safeguard accounts. Millions of customers at Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo routinely use fingerprints to log into their bank accounts through their mobile phones. This feature, which some of the largest banks have introduced in the last few months, is enabling a huge share of American banking customers to verify their identities with biometrics. And millions more are expected to opt in as more phones incorporate fingerprint scans. Other uses of biometrics are also coming online. Wells Fargo lets some customers scan their eyes with their mobile phones to log into corporate accounts and wire millions of dollars. Citigroup can help verify 800,000 of its credit card customers by their voices. USAA, which provides insurance and banking services to members of the military and their families, identifies some of its customers through their facial contours. Some of the moves reflect concern that so many hundreds of millions of email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers and other personal identifiers have fallen into the hands of criminals, rendering those identifiers increasingly ineffective at protecting accounts. And while thieves could eventually find ways to steal biometric data, banks are convinced they offer more protection.

Headline: Israel to build underground wall beneath Gaza border to thwart Hamas tunnels – report
Israel is planning to build a massive concrete wall which will extend below ground along the Gaza Strip border, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper has revealed. The barrier is aimed at combating the threat posed by Hamas tunnels crossing into the country from Gaza. The wall, which will stretch along the 96km (60 mile) border around the Gaza Strip, will extend several dozen meters below the ground, and will also be present above the ground. It is estimated to cost US$568 million. The costly plan – aimed at tackling Hamas terror tunnels – was cleared for publication by Israel’s military censor, according to Ynet, a website affiliated with Yedioth Ahronoth. The wall will be the third defense system of its kind to be erected along the border.

Headline: Palestinians begin sea border talks with Egypt
The Palestinians have begun talks with Egypt on setting out the maritime borders of their hoped for future state and the resources they can extract from the sea, their UN ambassador to the United Nations said Friday. The goal is to establish an exclusive economic zone off the coast of the Gaza Strip under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, said ambassador Ryad Mansour. The Palestinians became party to this and other UN treaties and agencies when they gained observer status at the United Nations in November 2012. The talks with Egypt are at the preliminary stage, having begun recently with Egypt at the foreign minister level and then continued at the expert level, the ambassador said. The Palestinian Authority has consulted “top lawyers in the field” to prepare its case and train its officials in the workings of maritime law, he added. The Palestinian strategy is to reach agreements with two of its neighbors in the Mediterranean — first Egypt and then Cyprus — to define exclusive economic zones with respect to them, and then consult with lawyers as to what its potential borders with Israel could be. Experts will then take an inventory of the natural resources claimed by the Palestinians and, and they will file their EEZ with the UN convention on the law of the sea. It is a way to save time for future generations, said Mansour. The Palestinians want to move as quickly as possible but these proceedings could take years, he added.

Hezbollah this week ordered a general military call-up for their biggest combat mission in the Syrian war since their forces began fighting in support of the Assad regime in 2013, debkafile military forces report. Iran’s Lebanese proxy has been assigned the task of expelling the Islamic State from broad areas it occupied in the Deir ez-Zor region of eastern Syria and, in particular, the Euphrates River valley which connects eastern Syria and western Iraq. This Hezbollah offensive is designed to open the way for the pro-Iranian Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces and the Badar Forces militias which entered the ISIS-held Iraqi town of Fallujah Friday June 17 to move west and up the Iraqi side of the valley. The two militias spearheaded the Fallujah operation under the command of Iran’s Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani of the Revolutionary Guards and Ground Corps Brig. Gen. Mohammad Pakpour. The plan is for Hezbollah forces to meet these pro-Iranian militia forces on the Syria-Iraq border and so gain control over the most important strategic land pass between Iraq and Syria. Whereas the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq are fighting under US air cover, Hezbollah is assured of Russian air support in Syria. And so, for the first time in the Syria conflict and its own history, Hezbollah will receive air cover from both the US and Russia, the two superpowers now coordinating their military moves in Syria and Iraq. This strategy, which essentially connects the Syrian and Iraqi campaigns against ISIS, was charted on June 9, at a secret meeting in Tehran of the Russian, Iranian and Syrian defense chiefs.

Shelling from Yemen has wounded two people in southern Saudi Arabia, the kingdom’s civil defense agency said late Thursday, in a rare breach of calm along the border. The civil defense’s Twitter account said the shelling occurred in the Tawal area of Saudi’s Jazan region, without providing further details. Dozens of civilians and Saudi soldiers were killed in fire from Yemen along the border after a Saudi-led military coalition launched operations in March 2015 against Iran-backed Houthi rebels who overran much of Yemen. The Houthis are allied with elite troops loyal to Yemen’s former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The border has been relatively calm since March when local tribes brokered a truce.

Syria Headline: Air strikes hit rebel-held parts of Aleppo hours into truce — Observatory
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said air strikes hit rebel-held parts of Aleppo just hours into an announced 48-hour ceasefire and fighting carried on in and around the northern Syrian city. Russia, an ally of Syria, announced the truce there on Thursday but did not say which parties had agreed to it. There has been no public comment from the government of President Bashar Assad or factions fighting his forces on the truce announcement. The Britain-based observatory monitoring group said aerial bombardments hit a number of neighbourhoods in the opposition-held sector and that there were reports of one death and some injuries. “There were strikes on a number of residential areas causing fires and damage. The truce was supposed to have come into effect at 12 midnight, but now there is no truce,” Bebars Mishal, a civil defence chief working in rebel-held areas of Aleppo told Reuters. Two residents in Aleppo said there had been a number of barrel bombs dropped from helicopters and aerial attacks on Thursday within the city. The opposition-held part of Aleppo has been cut off in the past two weeks from the outside world as an escalation in air and artillery strikes on the only road in has made journeys perilous and put hundreds of thousands of people under effective siege. Despite the truce, fierce fighting between government forces and rebels took place overnight around this road, known as the Castello road, with heavy government shelling of the area, the observatory said. A Reuters witness said jets and helicopters have been continuously seen in the skies above the Castello road since dawn. Rebels have since midnight also fired rockets into government-held territory in Aleppo, the observatory said.

The Russian Air Force bombed U.S.-trained rebels in southern Syria not once, but twice Thursday, and the second wave of attacks came after the U.S. military called Russia on an emergency hotline to demand that it stop, a defense official with knowledge of the attack tells Fox News. “They came back and struck again,” the official said about the Russians, visibly angry about the incident. Russian Su-34 “Fullbacks” conducted the airstrikes, according to the official who said it was most likely a flight of two, the typical attack profile for the Russian Air Force in Syria. Su-34s are modern Russian fighter-bombers comparable to a U.S. Air Force F-15. The Russian Air Force “had never conducted strikes” in that portion of Syria before, the official said. Al-Tanf is nestled in an area where Syria, Jordan and Iraq come together. Some of the U.S.-backed Syrian rebels were part of the Pentagon’s “train and equip” program, and others were CIA-trained, the official said.

Iraqi Headline: Iraqi forces seize government building in the heart of Fallujah
The Iraqi military seized a government building in the heart of Fallujah from Islamic State militants on Friday marking a major step forward in the terror fight, a U.S. military spokesman confirmed. “The building is roughly in the center of town. The fight to take the building was supported by multiple coalition strikes,” Col. Christopher Garver told Fox News from Baghdad. As many as 42,000 people have left the area since the military operation against Fallujah began in late May, according to the United Nations. The Iraqi operation to retake Ramadi left that city largely in ruins. The city once was home to nearly half a million people, but the violence forced most of them to flee. ISIS has held Fallujah longer than any other city. The terror group captured Fallujah in January 2014. Despite the focus on control of Fallujah, 40 miles west of Baghdad, U.S. military officials have said they want the Iraqi forces to continue plans to recapture Mosul, where the majority of ISIS fighters in Iraq are located.

Iraqi Headline: ISIS attack in Iraq kills 15 members of security forces
ISIS has killed 15 members of the local security forces in attacks on villages in northern Iraq, officials said on Friday. The attack was launched late Thursday on villages west of the restive town of Tuz Khurmatu, which lies in an ethnically mixed area 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Baghdad. The ensuing clashes killed 15 members of the police, of a Turkmen paramilitary organization and of the Kurdish peshmerga. “Twelve people, six members of the police and six of the Hashed al-Turkmani were killed in the fighting against Daesh (ISIS),” said Abu Ridha al-Najjar, the local leader of the Turkmen group. “The attack began in Birahmed area last night,” he said of a cluster of villages west of Tuz Khurmatu. The Hashed al-Turkmani is a local branch of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a national umbrella organisation dominated by Tehran-backed Shiite militias.In and around Tuz Khurmatu and other areas in Iraq’s Turkmen heartland, Shiite Turkmen fighters belonging to these militias fight under the banner of the Hashed al-Turkmani. Mullah Karim Shakur, a local peshmerga official, said three Kurdish fighters were also killed in the fighting. The attack was claimed by ISIS in an online statement. The jihadists still hold nearby areas, such as the town of Hawijah and parts of the Hamreen mountain range.

Ethiopian security forces killed more than 400 people in the recent wave of anti-government demonstrations, US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) says. In its most comprehensive report into the Oromo protests, HRW lists the names of more than 300 it says were killed. The government has acknowledged that protesters have died but said HRW was “very generous with numbers”. Protests were sparked by fears that a plan to expand the capital into Oromia region would displace Oromo farmers. They began in November last year, but the government dropped the proposal to enlarge Addis Ababa’s administrative boundaries in January.

A suicide car bombing on Thursday killed 10 members of forces allied to Libya’s unity government who are fighting Daesh, hospital sources said. “Ten dead and seven wounded were brought in… after a suicide attack carried out by Daesh in Abu Grein,” 130 km west of the coastal city of Sirte, said a source at the central hospital in Misrata, from where the pro-unity government forces have launched an offensive. The forces allied to the Government of National Accord (GNA) captured the town of Abu Grein on May 17 as they advanced on Sirte, the terrorist stronghold in Libya. Thirty-two people were killed and 50 wounded in a car-bomb attack in Abu Grein the next day targeting the forces allied with the GNA. The military command of the anti-Daesh operation said that two other car-bombings inside Sirte itself were foiled on Thursday.

Azerbaijan will launch military drills near Nagorno-Karabakh two months after fighting erupted with Armenian forces over the disputed Caucasus region, the country’s defense ministry says. Venezuela, where anger over food shortages is still mounting, continued to be roiled this week by angry protests and break-ins of grocery stores and businesses that have left five dead, at least 30 injured and 200 arrested, according to various news reports. The latest fatality came from the southwest city of Merida, where 17-year-old Jean Paul Omana died Wednesday after being shot Tuesday during a disturbance amid looting. Widespread violence has been reported there, as well as an attack by protesters on the headquarters of President Nicolas Maduro’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela, or PSUV. As consumers grow increasingly frustrated with ongoing food scarcities and lengthening lines outside stores, protests are turning more violent. A Social media reported protests on Wednesday in the Los Teques, Los Altos Mirandinos and Santa Teresa del Tuy suburbs of Caracas, the capital.

Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a village in Niger while a delegation of ministers were visiting, killing seven gendarmes and wounding 12 in a gun battle, the military said on Friday. The attack happened on Thursday in a village in the region of Diffa that hosts refugees and internally displaced people who have been forced from their home by the Islamist insurgents, officials said. The ministers were unharmed. Neighboring Chad has sent troops to help Niger in a planned counterattack against Boko Haram after the militants seized the southern Niger town of Bosso in an attack that killed 26 soldiers. Niger’s government has called on former colonial power France, which already has 3,500 troops spread across five countries in West Africa, to strengthen military operations against the Nigeria-based Boko Haram and other militants. Niger’s defense minister, Hassoumi Messaoudou, told Radio France International on Friday that regional leaders needed to “rethink Boko Haram” and called on regional forces to defeat the group in Nigeria. “We thought they were reduced to making suicide attacks,” he said. “Now they have rebuilt their military forces. These bandits have relatives and they hide in the populace.” The deployment comes as the militant group is demanding $13 million ransom for the release of Kjarten Sekkingstad, a citizen of Norway, and Marites Flor of the Philippines. They have been held hostage since being abducted from a resort in the Philippines in September. The current account trade deficit jumped 9.9 percent in the first quarter to $124.7 billion, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. It was the biggest gap since a deficit of $152.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008, the height of the financial crisis. The higher deficit reflected a $9.6 billion decline in the surplus on investment earnings. That offset a $2 billion decrease in the deficit on merchandise trade and an increase of $400 million in the surplus on services. The current account is the broadest measure of trade because it covers not only trade in goods but also services and investment flows. Economists closely watch the figure because it indicates how much the United States needs to borrow from foreigners. The first quarter deficit represented 2.7 percent of overall economic output, as measured by the gross domestic product, up from 2.5 percent in the fourth quarter when the deficit totaled $113.4 billion. For all of 2015, the current account deficit totaled $462.97 billion, an increase of 18.1 percent from 2014.

It seems the moon is not Earth’s only cosmic companion. The newly discovered asteroid 2016 HO3 orbits the sun in such a way that the space rock never strays too far from Earth, making it a “quasi-satellite” of our planet, scientists say. “One other asteroid — 2003 YN107 — followed a similar orbital pattern for a while over 10 years ago, but it has since departed our vicinity,” Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said in a statement Wednesday (June 15). “This new asteroid is much more locked onto us,” Chodas added. “Our calculations indicate 2016 HO3 has been a stable quasi-satellite of Earth for almost a century, and it will continue to follow this pattern as Earth’s companion for centuries to come.” Indeed, 2016 HO3 is the best example of an Earth quasi-satellite ever found, scientists said. The asteroid was discovered on April 27 by scientists using the Pan-STARRS 1 survey telescope in Hawaii. 2016 HO3’s exact size is unknown, but researchers think it’s between 130 feet and 330 feet wide (40 to 100 meters).

Chick-fil-A did WHAT on Sunday?
Back in 2012, Chick-fil-A was targeted by leftwing bullies – after CEO Dan Cathy made comments supporting traditional marriage. They were accused of making “hate chicken.” They were accused of being anti-gay. And they were castigated by the mainstream media. In May a New York City councilman objected to the Southern restaurant chain opening a store in Queens. Mayor Bill de Blasio urged New Yorkers to boycott Chick-fil-A and Councilman Daniel Dromm accused them of spreading a “message of hate.”
So here is their ‘message of hate” :
It’s not all that unusual in the Christian faith to express sympathy and compassion by preparing a country ham or a batch of biscuits or a peach cobbler. Normally Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday so workers can go to church or spend time with their families or just sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and wave to passersby. Hours after the gunman had massacred 49 people and wounded dozens more in the Pulse nightclub, the community sprang into action. One of the most inspiring photographs showed hundreds and hundreds of people waiting in long lines – for hours to donate blood. Team members at two nearby Chick-fil-A restaurants figured those folks must be getting hungry. So somebody flipped on the lights and they started frying chicken. Before long they were serving sandwiches and nuggets and sweet tea to all the folks waiting to donate blood – along with a host of law enforcement personnel. “We love our city and love the people in our community,” a team member wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The following day many of their restaurants provided free chicken biscuits and orange juice to firefighters and police officers and first responders. “We are appalled by the senseless crime that was committed this weekend, but we are part of a community that stands strong and stands together,” they wrote on Facebook. So why is Chick-fil-A so generous? Their number one corporate priority is to “glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

This full-dress reenactment of the Omer offering was an essential part of preparing for the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple, bringing it closer in the most practical ways. Rabbi Yaakov Savir led the reenactments of the Omer offerings this year in Jerusalem. He told Breaking Israel News that the reenactments are essential to preparing for the Third Temple, because they teach the priests about the practical details of performing the special commandments. “Despite the detailed descriptions in Rabbinic literature, every time we re-enact the rituals we discover something,” he explained. “The two loaves are the only grain offerings brought to the Temple made from leavened bread. All of the other grain offering are flat, pan breads, usually fried in oil. Even the Show Bread that was always present in the Temple, despite being quite large, was essentially matzah, unleavened bread.

Headline: Iraq to sue Israel for destroying nuclear reactor in 1981
The first deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Homam Hamoudi, announced that Iraq plans to sue Israel for monetary compensation for carrying out Operation Opera, Israeli attack on the Osirak nuclear reactor in southeastern Baghdad which occured on June 7, 1981 . A statement published by Turkish news agency Anatolia said that “the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament has to raise the issue in the international arena and give it special attention, especially as it is the 35th anniversary of the Israeli attack against the nuclear reactor.” At the same time, Hamoudi called on the UN to implement Security Council Resolution 487 from1981 which gives Iraq the right to ask for compensation for the operation against the reactor, which he claims affected the country’s development. In the resolution the UN Security Council demanded that “Israel, in view of its international responsibility for its act of aggression, pay prompt and adequate compensation for the material damage and loss of life suffered as a result of the said act.” Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi parliament, Abdel Bari Zibari, explained that there are several obstacles which stand in the way of filing the suit, especially the fact that so far Iraq has not received the required international assistance needed to sue Israeli regarding its attack. According to Zibari, such action requires international assistance, particularly from Security Council member countries, so that they will guarantee Iraq’s right to file the lawsuit.

Subsequent to clashes with the Islamic State’s (ISIS) fighters, Syrian regime’s army forces on Tuesday gained control of the Arak oil field in the central province of Homs, official sources and activists reported. The offensive started with the Russian warplanes launching a series of airstrikes on ISIS positions in the eastern countryside of Homs, coupled with artillery bombardment by the Syrian army on the group’s strongholds in the area. “The Russian air cover and heavy bombardment by the army caused ISIS heavy losses in manpower and equipment,” Syrian army officer Firas Jabban told ARA News in Homs. “The army then cleansed the entire area from ISIS terrorists and liberated the Arak oil field,” he added. “There have been casualties on both sides,” local media activist Amro al-Hussein told ARA News over the phone. “ISIS’ withdrawal from the Arak field came due to the intensified Russian airstrikes, which opened to path for the regime’s forces to advance on the ground.”

Iraqi Headline: Iraqi Security Forces Enter Fallujah
Iraqi security forces are “inside” Fallujah three weeks after launching an offensive to retake the Islamic State-held city, according to a military spokesman for the coalition battling IS in Iraq and Syria. “They [Iraqis] have a foothold in the southern corner, the southern edge of the city,” Col. Chris Garver told Pentagon reporters Wednesday during a teleconference from Baghdad. Garver said the Iraqis are working to “seize the center” of Fallujah and then fight outward. The attack inside the city comes as other Iraqi Security Force brigades, Iraqi police, Anbar tribal fighters and Popular Mobilization Units continue the encirclement of the Fallujah, which is needed to prevent Islamic State fighters from reinforcing or resupplying their fighters there. Multiple Iraqi brigades from four different Iraqi Army divisions are involved in the fight to retake the city. The coalition estimates hundreds of Islamic State fighters remain in Fallujah.

Turkey will miss an end of June deadline to meet the EU’s conditions for securing visa-free travel to the bloc for its citizens, the European Commission is to confirm Wednesday. Visa liberalization was a key part of an EU-Turkey deal struck in March in which Ankara was asked to stem the flow of refugees into Europe in exchange for cash and other benefits. The number of migrants reaching Europe through Turkey has dropped to almost zero since the deal came into effect. Part of the deal was to speed up the lifting of “visa requirements for Turkish citizens at the latest by the end of June 2016” — the original deadline was October — but only if Turkey met all the outstanding conditions, or so-called benchmarks. The June deadline is now going to be missed, with a Commission official saying “there were no major developments on the benchmarks.” The next report on Ankara’s progress, the official said, is due in September. The countries have blamed each other for the fighting that broke out on Sunday at the main crossing point between them over the construction of a new border post on the Pakistani side. “When our people began construction work on the gate on Wednesday, Afghan forces again opened fire at our troops and construction workers,” said a Pakistani security official who declined to be identified. He said Pakistan had retaliated with long-range artillery and mortars. There was no word on any casualties.
The Pakistani military spokesman’s office confirmed the Wednesday fighting. Meanwhile, The Taliban took control of a district center in the central Afghan province of Uruzgan after several days of fighting Afghan forces who are reported to have been supported by US forces. The Taliban said it overran the “police HQ [headquarters] and other installations” at Char Chino and “dismantled” the “district administration center and other buildings.” The jihadist group made the claim on its official propaganda website, Voice of Jihad.

Headline: UN to authorise EU operation to enforce Libya arms embargo
The UN Security Council on Tuesday was set to authorise an EU naval force to enforce the arms embargo on Libya by intercepting ships suspected of carrying weapons to the Daesh terror group and other militias. The 15-member council was to vote on a resolution drafted by Britain and France that would expand the mission of Operation Sophia, which has been combating migrant-smuggling in the Mediterranean. Operation Sophia’s enforcement of the arms embargo would help shore up the UN-backed unity government as it struggles to establish its authority over the entire north African country. Militias loyal to the new government of Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj have been battling to retake from Daesh militants the key city of Sirte. The draft resolution invokes Chapter 7 of the UN charter, which allows for the use of military force.

US President Barack Obama offers no clear strategy for destroying ISIS other than predicting a long, hard road for his too-little, too-late military interventions overseas. That was evident from his latest speech Tuesday, June 14. Realizing this, Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Bagdadi still does not feel threatened by military defeat, and whenever his forces are pushed back on one front, he promptly opens a new one. And so, when earlier this year, US and Russian-backed local forces aided by air strikes began forcing ISIS out of territory it had occupied since 2014 in Syria and Iraq. ISIS shifted a large part of its forces to Libya and opened a third front there. The 5,000 Islamist fighters were quietly moved from Iraq to southern Jordan, from there to the Sinai Peninsula and from Egypt to Libya. How come that neither the Americans nor anyone else in the West acted to thwart this large-scale military movement? President Obama described the war on the terror organization from a one-sided perspective, as though only his side was making progress on the battlefield. In his speech, Obama bent all his rhetoric skill and intelligence to drawing a thick line between 29-year-old Omar Mateen and “one of the world’s great religions” by dismissing him as a “disturbed individual” notwithstanding the mass-murderer’s oath of allegiance to the ISIS leader.

Windows were smashed and a hospital building was sprayed with graffiti. French Health Minister Marisol Touraine commented to the radio station France Info, “We are talking about a children’s hospital that was attacked. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Likud ministers Monday that he will never accept the original Arab Peace Initiative as a basis for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, according to two sources at the meeting. “If the Arab nations grasp the fact that they need to revise the Arab League proposal according to the changes Israel demands, then we can talk,” Netanyahu said. “But if they bring the proposal from 2002 and define it as ‘take it or leave it’ – we’ll choose to leave it.” The positive part of the plan, he told the ministers, was the willingness of the Arab nations to achieve peace and normalization with Israel. On the other hand, its negative elements include the demand that Israel retreat to the 1967 borders in the West Bank with territorial adjustments, and leave the Golan Heights, as well as the return of the Palestinian refugees.

For the first time ever, Israel was elected to head a permanent committee at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, despite intense efforts by Arab and Muslim states to stop the nomination. In a secret ballot Monday in New York, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon was elected chairman of the GA’s Sixth Committee, which deals with legal issues. “This is a historic achievement for the State of Israel. We broke the glass ceiling: Despite the opposition of many countries, including Iran and others that tried to prevent the vote, we managed to be elected for the first time to head a committee at the UN,” Danon said. In the past, Israeli diplomats have presided over other, less prestigious committees at the UN and even co-chaired the GA, but never headed one of the GA’s six main committees. “The Sixth Committee is the primary forum for the consideration of legal questions in the General Assembly,” according to the UN. Among the issues it is expected to deal with at this fall’s GA are “measures to eliminate international terrorism,” and “the rule of law at the national and international levels.”

A bomb exploded outside the headquarters of Lebanese Blom Bank in central Beirut on Sunday, causing damage but no fatalities, the interior minister said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The Lebanese banking sector has been at the centre of an escalating crisis since the United States passed a law requiring banks to take steps to target the finances of the armed Shi’ite political group Hezbollah. Lebanon’s central bank has pushed its commercial banks to heed the U.S. act, and Blom Bank is one of those that has closed accounts belonging to people suspected of links to Hezbollah. The group had no immediate comment on the blast. The Lebanese Red Cross said two people had suffered minor injuries in the blast, which took place around 8 p.m. in the Verdun area of Beirut, the National News Agency reported. Local television showed footage of a damaged building, with one hole in a concrete wall, and said shattered glass had fallen to the ground from several storeys up. The head of Lebanon’s internal security force, Ibrahim Basbous, said the bomb had contained around 15 kg of explosive material and had been placed in a flower bed, the National News Agency said.

Syria Headline: Bombings rock Damascus suburb Sayyida Zeinab
At least 12 people have been killed in suicide bomb attacks on a suburb of Damascus which is home to Syria’s holiest Shia shrine, state media say. Islamic State group said three militants – two carrying explosives belts and one with a car bomb – carried out the attacks in Sayyida Zeinab, 10km (six miles) south of the centre. At least 55 other people were wounded. Sayyida Zeinab, a predominantly Shia area, has been a frequent target of attacks from jihadi groups. The Sunni IS group says it was behind at least two other bombings in the district earlier this year that killed more than 150 people.

Syria Headline: Airstrikes in northwest Syria kill 27
A series of airstrikes in an insurgent-held Syrian province on Sunday killed at least 27 people, including four children, activists said. The airstrikes in the northwestern Idlib province struck a crowded market and an apartment block, and came despite reports that a local truce between the government and insurgents had been renewed. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of activists on the ground, said at least 21 people were killed by several airstrikes in Idlib city, including one that hit a popular market. The group said another airstrike in the city of Maaret Al-Numan, also in Idlib province, hit an apartment building, bringing it down and killing six people, including a mother and her four children who were trapped under the rubble.

Syria Headline: ISIS seizes two more villages from the Syrian Democratic Forces near Manbij
Sometime during the afternoon, ISIS stormed and captured the villages of Shaqal Kabir and Muayshirah after clashing with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeastern Aleppo. This follows four other villages that were also captured by the Islamic State yesterday. Shaqal Kabir and Muayshirah are located west of Manbij city; the villages were likely seized by ISIS fighters redeployed from the Azaz front, a rebel-held region further west.

Iraqi Headline: ISIS suicide attack kills five in Iraq’s Ramadi: officers
A suicide attack carried out by ISIS fighters killed at least five members of the Iraqi security forces Monday in the city of Ramadi, army officers said. Major General Ismail al-Mahalawi said the ISIS attack targeted an army base in Ramadi with several explosives-laden vehicles driven by suicide bombers and gunmen who fired on soldiers. “Our forces killed all the attackers and destroyed all the car bombs but there were a number of killed and wounded among army ranks,” said Mahalawi, who heads the operations command for Anbar province. Two senior Iraqi army officers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said five soldiers were killed and 11 wounded in the attack.

European Council President Donald Tusk told Bild that the EU is moving forward in its efforts to allow Turkish citizens to enter without obtaining a prior visa. “The negotiations will certainly last until October but we’re getting ever closer,” he said, after insisting that the EU will not give in until “they have fulfilled all of the conditions without exception.” In exchange for freer travel, Turkey is required to limit the number of refugees entering Europe and limit its anti-terror laws. Ankara, however, insists that it needs strict laws in order to stop the numerous threats to its security.

A car bomb wounded nine people in the eastern Turkish province of Tunceli on Monday near a housing block for civil servants working at a local courthouse, security sources said. Three of those wounded were in critical condition after the bomb was detonated near the lodgings in the district of Ovacik, the sources said. Television images showed the remains of a vehicle burning on the road and smoke rising from damaged buildings. Turkey has seen a series of such attacks over recent months, including last week when a car bomb ripped through a police bus in central Istanbul near the main tourist district, a major university and the mayor’s office. Kurdish militants claimed responsibility for that attack. The militants have increasingly staged bombings outside the largely Kurdish southeast, where they have been waging an armed insurgency for three decades.

Border clashes have resumed between security forces of Pakistan and Afghanistan after a short-lived ceasefire on Monday, officials said. Overnight skirmishes killed at least one person wounded 18 others, according to officials, forcing around 200 Pakistani families to relocate to safer areas. “Pakistan wanted to build new installations and Afghan border forces didn’t allow it. Pakistan went further and fired towards Afghan forces,” Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah told a meeting of ministers in Kabul. He confirmed the exchange of fire, which lasted seven hours, left one Afghan soldier dead and six others wounded. The Pakistani side also suffered casualties at the Torkham crossing clash. Abdullah insists bilateral understandings bind the two countries to seek mutual consent before constructing new installations near the border. “The Afghan security and defense forces retaliated to safeguard the territorial integrity and defend the country and its people … armed forces are always ready to defend their country and people and to react against any kind of threats,” the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a separate statement. But officials in Pakistan rejected Afghan assertions the construction activity was illegal and blamed Afghan security forces for resorting to “unprovoked firing” that wounded 12 people, including a Pakistani border guard.

Eritrea and Ethiopia accused each other of starting clashes on Sunday between their soldiers in a border region, highlighting persistent tension over a boundary dispute that triggered war in 1998-2000.
Ethiopia said the situation was calm on Monday, after a resident on the Ethiopian side reported the sound of explosions all day on Sunday and lasting into the early morning of Monday. Eritrea, a Horn of Africa country that won independence from Ethiopia in 1991, fought border wars with its larger neighbor in 1998-2000 that killed about 70,000 people. Eritrea’s Information Ministry said in a statement late on Sunday night that the Ethiopian government had “unleashed an attack against Eritrea on the Tsorona Central Front.” Tsorona is a town south of the Eritrean capital Asmara and close to the frontier. The area saw intense fighting during the earlier border war. “The purpose and ramifications of this attack are not clear,” the Eritrean statement said. Ethiopia disputed this account, saying Eritrea started the fight. “Their forces were promptly repulsed. They were given a proper response,” government spokesman Getachew Reda said, adding that the situation was quiet on Monday.

Headline: Daesh bombers hit Libyan forces as Sirte battle rages
Forces allied with Libya’s unity government battled Sunday to retake the Daesh group’s last redoubts in its stronghold of Sirte, facing fierce resistance including a series of suicide car bombings.
The pro-government forces entered Sirte on Wednesday and have been advancing more quickly than expected against Daesh, which seized control of the coastal city last year and turned it into its main base of operations in North Africa. The loss of Sirte would be a major setback for Daesh, which has also been losing territory in Syria and Iraq where the jihadist group established its self-declared “caliphate” in 2014. Daesh — surrounded in a densely populated area of around five square kilometers in the city center — have been putting up fierce resistance and on Sunday carried out three suicide car bombings against pro-government fighters. “Three explosions from cars driven by Daesh suicide bombers targeted our forces in Sirte,” Reda Issa, a spokesman for the unity government’s forces, told AFP. Two of the bombers hit gatherings of pro-government forces and another hit a field hospital, he said. At least one person was killed and four wounded in the blasts, Issa said.
The attacks came a day after pro-government forces said they had recaptured the port in Sirte, the hometown of Libya’s ousted dictator Muammar Qaddafi, and residential areas in the city’s east.

Amaq News Agency, one of the Islamic State’s news outlets, has released a short infographic detailing the jihadist group’s operations and activities in the Philippines. The infographic is set up similar to those released for official Islamic State wilayats (provinces), which indicates the rising importance of the Philippines for the jihadist group. The infographic (above) includes several important claims of the Islamic State in the Philippines, including how many groups have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and where these groups operate. Additionally, it claims 289 Filipino troops have been killed by Islamic State forces since April 2015, including 100 alone in April 2016. The Filipino government has heavily disputed these numbers. While the infographic contains numbers from April 2015, it confirms the first official announcement of Filipino jihadist groups pledging allegiance to the Islamic State occurred in January 2016. Videos and reports of groups pledging bayah (allegiance) have emerged since 2014, shortly after Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, claimed the creation of a caliphate. The video in January, however, was the first time the Islamic State publicly accepted these pledges. A month later, the Islamic State’s Furat media released another video showing more groups pledging allegiance. This includes Isnilon Hapilon, a US-designated terrorist, who heads the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). In an April issue of the Islamic State’s weekly newsletter Al Naba, the jihadist group said that Hapilon (called Abu Abdullah al Filipini, one of his noms de guerre, in the newsletter) has been appointed as emir of all Islamic State forces in the Philippines according to a translation from the SITE Intelligence Group.

A nuclear-powered U.S. submarine arrived at the South Korean port city of Busan on Monday. The USS Mississippi, a Virginia-class attack submarine, made its first visit to South Korea as part of its maiden voyage to the Asia-Pacific, according to the U.S. military. “With a crew of approximately 141 sailors, the Mississippi will conduct a multitude of missions while maintaining proficiency of the latest capabilities of the submarine fleet,” Submarine Group Seven said in its statement. Volunteering in South Korea, including leisure activities with children from a local orphanage and assistance with facility maintenance will also mark the goodwill visit, the military said in its statement. The USS Mississippi’s visit comes months after the United States deployed a B-52 strategic bomber and four F-22 stealth jets to South Korea in January and February, Yonhap reported. North Korea had condemned the United States for the B-52 deployment and threatened a “nuclear response” for the action, although the United States often has sent B-52 and B-2 bombers to South Korea over the decades.

Temperatures will climb well past 100 F in parts of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Teaxas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona with the worst days of heat likely from Saturday to Monday. While the summer months can be unbearable in terms of heat in the Southwest, temperatures will climb to 10-20 F above average for the middle of June during the pattern. “The core of the heat will be centered on Arizona, where portions of the state, including Phoenix, could approach their highest temperature on record for any calendar day,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski. Temperatures may not only reach levels not felt in the past several years but could challenge the highest mark on record in some cases.

The Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, David Lau, said he would like to see the Jewish temple rebuilt on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. To build it, there was no need to remove any of the Muslim shrines on the Temple Mount, where there was plenty of room for “Jews, Christians, Muslims, everyone,” he told the Knesset Channel on Tuesday. “I can’t tell you exactly what was in the temple, but the truth is that when you see the prophets, the writings, the sayings of the sages, you understand that whoever went there came back full of inspiration, emotion, joy and satisfaction, so I yearn for those days,” he added. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to maintain the status quo that prohibits Jewish prayer at the site, and has ordered members of Knesset not to approach the Mount, a move contested by Jewish zealots bent to building a third temple.

The IDF declined to provide details on numbers of troops, but battalions are usually made up of several hundred soldiers. It follows emergency security consultations between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, following which the government froze tens of thousands of visitor permits for Palestinian Arabs into Israeli sovereign territory in response to the massacre. IDF forces also acted quickly to seal off the attackers’ hometown of Yatta, adjacent to Hebron. Syrian government forces and their allies took control of a strategic crossroads in Raqqa province Friday in their latest advance towards ISIS strongholds in the area, the army and activists said. The seizure of the junction, which leads to Raqqa city, ISIS’s de facto capital and also to Tabqa (Al Tabqah), another city it controls, came as part of a week-old Syrian government offensive against the extremists, backed by Russian air power. The Syrian army’s campaign is taking place as U.S.-backed forces separately advance against ISIS militants around Manbij near the Turkish border further northwest and make gains in the countryside north of Raqqa city. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said government-allied forces were 15 km (9 miles) from Tabqa. A military source said in February that Tabqa, some 50 km (30 miles) west of Raqqa city, would be the first target of a Syrian government attack in Raqqa province. Arab-Kurdish fighters backed by the United States Friday cut ISIS’s main supply route between Syria and Turkey in a major setback for the extremists. he extremists lost control Friday of a vital supply artery when Arab-Kurdish forces completely surrounded a key extremist-held town. “The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) cut off the last road from Manbij to the Turkish border,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based pro-opposition monitoring group. Manbij lies at the heart of the last stretch of territory along Turkey’s border still under ISIS control, and was a key point on the extremists’ supply line from Turkey. Other secondary roads to the frontier are more dangerous and difficult to access, Observatory head Rami Abdel-Rahman said. The U.S. envoy to the anti-ISIS coalition backing the SDF, Brett McGurk, confirmed the road had been severed. “ISIL terrorists now completely surrounded with no way out,” he wrote on Twitter, using another acronym for ISIS. This week the SDF, backed by coalition airstrikes, cut the road north out of Manbij to the ISIS-held border town of Jarabulus, which the extremists had used as a transit point for fighters, money and weapons. The SDF also blocked the road south out of Manbij heading to ISIS’s de facto capital of Raqqa.

The forces spearheading the advance on Sirte are the Tripoli-based UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). Somali Islamist militant group al-Shabab says it has killed 60 Ethiopian soldiers in an attack on an African Union base in central Somalia. The AU mission (Amisom) says it repulsed the attack, killing 110 militants. Residents in Halgan told the BBC they had heard a huge bang followed by a heavy exchange of gunfire. Amisom supports the government as it fights to regain control of the country from al-Shabab. In a series of tweets it has said its soldiers, alongside troops from the Somali army, “drove back the attackers who are now on the run with the joint forces in pursuit”. Ethiopia has denied that any of its soldiers were killed.

The Russian Foreign ministry said Moscow would respond to a U.S. naval ship’s entry into the Black Sea with unspecified measures, saying it and other deployments were designed to ratchet up tensions ahead of a NATO summit, the RIA news agency reported. Russian state media reported that the USS Porter, a U.S. naval destroyer, entered the Black Sea a few days ago on a routine deployment, a move it said raised hackles in Moscow because it had recently been fitted with a new missile system. U.S. Navy officials told reporters on Wednesday the U.S. military would also have two aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean this month ahead of a July NATO summit in Warsaw as Washington sought to balance Russian military activities. “Of course, this does not meet with our approval and will undoubtedly lead to response measures,” RIA cited Andrei Kelin, a senior Foreign Ministry official, as saying about the USS Porter’s movements. Fear is on the rise and so is the price of gold. Gold futures for August hit a three-week high Thursday, rising to $1,272.70 per ounce, just under a key resistance level of $1,275. The yellow metal is up about 20 percent year to date, and some high-profile investors — like George Soros and Stanley Druckenmiller — have made no secret that they see bad times ahead in the markets and gold is a safer bet. “As far as the geopolitical element, it’s certainly not a chicken little atmosphere,” said Jim Steel, chief commodities analyst at HSBC. “I think there’s enough uncertainty facing the global economy and even some geopolitical tensions to keep buying the gold market.” Investors believing they need to have gold in their portfolio as a hedge against the outcome of easy central bank policies and for other safety reasons are fueling a run in the metal. Some analysts say gold could easily climb above $1,300 an ounce. In fact, DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeff Gundlach likes it, and he says gold could go to $1,400. Soros has reportedly been buying both gold and gold mining shares, while Drunkenmiller told investors last month to get out of stocks altogether and buy the yellow metal due to concerns about China’s economy and the Fed‘s easy money policies. Analysts say there are a host of reasons investors are loading up on gold, and at some point later this year, the U.S. presidential election could be seen as one of them.

Let me stop you for a second before you read the news about the Holy Sepulchre. We all know Jesus was laid to rest and so the place where Jesus was buried is often in the news. However, what is the big deal? I can see if Jesus was still in the tomb why so many people would want to see it and him but Jesus was only in that tomb for 3 days and left never to return to it so why is everyone who excited about fixing up a place where Jesus is NOT? You want to go see someone who is dead go to Budda’s grave or Muminaid’s grace they are still DEAD! Instead of looking inside a empty tomb you should be excited about looking up because they is where Jesus is right now and thats where He is going to come back from. There is only one God who was dead and came back to life and that God is Jesus Christ and no grave could ever keep God down!!!!! Ask yourself this question. Why didn’t Budda or Muminaid raise up like Jesus? Because they could not as they were not God. If you want to live after you die you should look to Christ now before you die and end up like Budda or Muminaid.

Headline: Palestinian Authority FM: Conclusions of Paris Summit to be non-binding
Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Riyad al-Maliki, said Saturday that some international nations interfered in the Paris summit peace talks to ensure that its final conclusions would be non-binding. Al-Maliki was quoted saying that, “countries interfered so that the final announcement of the Paris Conference would not include concrete stances regarding the peace process, the settlements, or an established time-table.” According to one report, the United States was one of the nations involved in pushing this compromise. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was updated Friday night by French FM Jean-Marc Ayrault regarding progress made in the conference. Ayrault said that France inc tends to send a designated emissary to the Middle East in order to push forward the peace process and regional stability.

Thousands of Israelis marched through Jerusalem’s Old City amid high tensions on Sunday to commemorate the capture of the city’s eastern sector in the 1967 Mideast war. The marchers, waving Israeli flags and chanting, paraded through the ancient center, which is home to the city’s most sensitive holy sites. The march snaked through the heart of the Old City’s Muslim Quarter, where revelers danced and blew horns. The march comes amid a nearly nine month-long wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence. In a sign of the strain, Israel’s Supreme Court earlier Sunday limited the march’s duration in a bid to “cause minimum friction with Muslim residents,” and police beefed up security to ensure calm. But no incidents were reported by nightfall, police said, adding that more than 30,000 marchers participated. Police took extra precautions because the march may have coincided with the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins Monday.

During his 48-hour trip to Moscow (Monday and Tuesday June 6-7), Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will try and talk President Vladimir Putin into cutting Israel into the military teamwork evolving between Washington and Moscow for combating the Islamic State in Syria. As a quid pro quo, he will offer to elevate Moscow to senior broker in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, with Moscow or Geneva selected as the venue for direct Israeli-Palestinian talks, if they occur – and with US participation. Netanyahu is also keen on a role for Egypt’s Presidents Abdek-Fattah al-Sisi.

Five people have been killed in an attack on Jordanian intelligence officers at a Palestinian refugee camp near the capital, Amman, government officials say. They described the incident, rare in Jordan, as a “terrorist attack”. Three of the five people killed were intelligence officers, the officials said. The attack took place at the sprawling Baqaa camp north of Amman at about 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT). The Baqaa camp was one of six set up in 1968 for Palestinian refugees fleeing the West Bank and Gaza Strip as a result of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. No-one has yet said they carried out the Baqaa attack. He gave no details of the attack but said it was carried out by those with the “criminal behaviour of people who are outside of our religion”. Mr Momani said two of those killed were a guard and a telephone exchange operator. A security source later told AFP news agency that initial findings suggested the attack was carried out by a lone gunman with an automatic weapon.
The attack took place on the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Hezbollah, backed by the Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division, carried out a successful ambush near the Lebanese border on Monday, killing several enemy combatants from Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) at Jaroud Faleeta. According to a military source in Damascus, Hezbollah and the 43rd Brigade reportedly struck a Jabhat Al-Nusra unit with a number of ATGMs along the road that leads to the Lebanese town of ‘Arsal. Recently, Hezbollah has stepped up their military operations in the Qalamoun Mountains after Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) attempted to expand their presence in the Greater Damascus area.

Syrian government war planes have launched dozens of air strikes on rebel-held areas in and around Aleppo, activists say. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the government also used helicopters to drop barrel bombs on Syria’s second city. Rescue workers were quoted as saying at least 20 bodies had been pulled from the rubble in several locations. Syrian state media said government-held areas were hit by rebel missiles. They reported several casualties and scores of injured people. They also said at least 24 people had been killed in similar attacks on Saturday.

Syria Headline: Another ISIS village captured as the Syrian Arab Army marches towards Raqqa
Starting at noon today, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its operations against ISIS in western Raqqa following up on a string of advances in the past week. With heavy clashes ongoing, the SAA is pushing towards the Rasafeh crossroad after capturing the village of Bur Ambaj yesterday. Moments ago, a field correspondent revealed to al-Masdar that the SAA had liberated Khirbat-Zaydān; the latter village is located directly east of Bur Ambaj. The source also said government troops – spearheaded by brand new T-90 tanks – had cleared upwards of 10 kilometers formerly ISIS-held territory in the past 24 hours alone. Effectively, the SAA has advanced approximately 45 kilometers since beginning the offensive less than one week ago. Remarkably, government troops are now only 30 kilometers from Tabqa Airbase; this air field is symbolic for the Syrian military as hundreds of government soldiers were executed by ISIS in August 2014 shortly after the Islamic State captured the airbase.

Two days after losing the large hilltop of Tal Tayyim, the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division reportedly recaptured this site after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) this afternoon. With the recapture of Tal Tayyim this afternoon, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to also able to seize several points that are adjacent to this hilltop in southwest Deir Ezzor. The 137th Brigade received a major boost, when reinforcements from the 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard arrived at the Panorama Checkpoint to relieve the embattled soldiers there. Fighting is still ongoing in the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor; however, the Syrian Armed Forces are currently on the move.

Civilians fleeing Falluja, an Iraqi stronghold of the so-called Islamic State (IS), are being shot as they leave, an aid agency says. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said families it had interviewed described people being shot dead by IS as they crossed the Euphrates River. The NRC, that runs refugee camps near Falluja, said up to 50,000 people remained in the city. Iraq’s army began the fight to retake the city late last month. Falluja lies just 50km (30 miles) west of Baghdad and has been held by IS since 2014. It is one of two remaining IS strongholds in Iraq. Shakir al-Essawi, the head of Falluja’s regional council, told Reuters people were trying to cross the Euphrates in refrigerators, cupboards and barrels. “Our biggest fears are now tragically confirmed with civilians being directly targeted while trying to flee to safety,” said Nasr Muflahi, the Iraq country director of the NRC, in a statement which said “armed opposition groups” were behind the shooting. “This is the worst that we feared would happen to innocent men, women and children who have had to leave everything behind in order to save their lives.”

Kurdish Headline: Turkey bombs Kurdish positions in Kobane
Turkey’s military on Sunday hit the Kurdish city of Kobane in northern Syria with four shells, bombing residential houses, local sources reported. The Turkish army forces, stationed on the border with Syria’s Kurdish region, targeted the districts of Khikhire and Tarmik in southeastern Kobane on Sunday evening. “Four artillery shells hit Kobane coming from the Turkish side of the border, causing destruction of several houses,” eyewitnesses told ARA News in Kobane. It was not immediately clear how many casualties fell in the Turkish bombardment. The city of Kobane and its countryside have been under the control of the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) since expelling militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in February 2015. Since then, the YPG-held areas have been exposed to several mortar and artillery attacks by the Turkish army, according to Kurdish military sources. “As the Kurdish forces continue their advance against ISIS terrorists and other Turkey-backed jihadi groups, the Turkish authorities keep targeting the Kurdish positions in a direct support to those terror groups,” a YPG official told ARA News.

Turkish energy company Unit International has reached a $4.2 billion deal with Iran’s energy ministry to build seven natural gas power plants there, in what it said was the biggest investment in Iran since the lifting of sanctions. The power stations, to be built in seven separate regions of Iran, Turkey’s eastern neighbor, would have a combined installed capacity of 6,020 megawatts, the company said in a statement. The United States, European Union and United Nations lifted most sanctions on Iran in January under a deal with world powers whereby Tehran agreed to curbs on its nuclear program. Turkish companies have seen the move as a major trade and investment opportunity, with the car, clothing, textiles, machinery and chemicals sectors also seen offering potential. “Unit International has reached a deal with the Iranian Energy Ministry worth some $4.2 billion to build natural gas combined cycle power plants,” Unit said, adding the agreement was signed at a ceremony in Tehran on June 1.

An Afghan member of parliament was killed by a bomb planted near his residence in the capital Kabul, the interior ministry said. The device, hidden in an electrical box attached to a wall, exploded as Shir Wali Wardak left his house, ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said late on Sunday. “It could either have been a bomb on a timer or one that was remotely detonated,” Sediqqi said, adding that 11 people, including five of Wardak’s bodyguards, were wounded in the blast. No group immediately claimed responsibility. The attack came hours after Taliban fighters stormed a courthouse south of Kabul, killing at least seven people, including a newly appointed chief prosecutor. At least 21 other people were wounded in the attack in Puli Alim, the capital of southeastern Logar province, the head of security for provincial police force said.

The prime minister of Libya’s UN-backed unity government has ruled out an international military intervention to fight the Daesh terror group, which has had a growing presence in the country since 2014. Some 25 nations including the United States and Russia agreed last month to help Libya arm itself against the extremists, but Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj told French newspaper Journal du Dimanche he would not allow foreign troops on the ground. “It’s true that we need help from the international community in our fight against terrorism and it’s true that this is something we have already received,” he said in the interview, published on Sunday. “But we are not talking about international intervention,” Sarraj said, adding that the presence of foreign ground troops would be “contrary to our principles”. “Rather we need satellite images, intelligence, technical help… not bombardments,” he said. The Government of National Accord (GNA), established in Tripoli more than two months ago, has been trying to unify violence-ridden Libya and exert its control over the entire North African country.

At least two people have died and five have been injured after Kenyan police opened fire to disperse opposition protests in the western city of Kisumu, a local reporter has told the BBC. The police have not commented. The opposition has been holding weekly demonstrations against the electoral commission, which it says is biased. Nairobi’s police chief had warned opposition supporters not to take part in Monday’s protest in the Kenyan capital “if you value your life”. Officers shot dead three people in similar protests in May. They said they were acting in self-defense. Journalist Richard Omondi says he has confirmed the latest fatalities with the authorities at the Kisumu hospital where the injured were taken. A bullet has also been removed from the body of a five-year-old boy, who survived the injury. Omondi told the BBC that protesters had earlier blocked roads with burning tyres and were heading to the electoral commission’s offices when police intervened.
