Israel summons Russian ambassador after criticizing attacks against Iran

On Wednesday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to it, Anatoly Viktorov, against the backdrop of statements made to the Jerusalem Post, in which he criticized Israel’s role in the region. Earlier this week, Viktorov told the Jerusalem Post: “Israel attacks Hezbollah, and it is not Hezbollah that attacks Israel,” adding that he is aware of the existence of tunnels from Lebanon to northern Israel, but there is no evidence that “Hezbollah dug these tunnels. He stressed that Israel should not attack the territories of a sovereign state, and any country that is a member of the United Nations, adding that “it is unlikely that Russia will agree to any Israeli raids on Syria, neither in the past nor in the future.” The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “expressed, through the official for policy and strategy, Alon Bar, its strong rejection of the statements published during a frank interview, and that they are not consistent with the reality of the situation in the Middle East, which was presented to the ambassador more than once and discussed during political dialogues and through diplomatic channels between the two countries.” They said it was expressed to the ambassador that they “consider that the discussion on regional issues, especially with regard to the Iranian threat and its terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, should take place through diplomatic channels, in a way that addresses the reality and threats facing Israel.”

The United States imposed terrorism sanctions on Iran’s envoy to the Houthis on Tuesday, a step possibly aimed at pressuring the group to reach an accord to end the five-year war in Yemen. The decision to target Irlu appears in part a signal to the Iran-backed Houthis, who have been battling a Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen since 2015. The United Nations is trying to revive peace talks stalled since late 2018 to end a war that has been in a military deadlock for years, with the Houthis holding the capital, Sanaa, and most big urban centers. Washington and Saudi Arabia see the Yemeni group as an extension of Iranian influence in the region. Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters last month that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, in an effort to support the Saudis, had threatened to blacklist the Houthi movement. Kirsten Fontenrose, a former White House National Security Council Gulf expert now at the Atlantic Council think tank, described the sanction as partly a warning to the Houthis that they may be next.

Heavy clashes erupt in northern Syria as Turkish forces launch wide-scale attack

The Turkish Armed Forces and their allied militants launched several attacks across the northern region of Syria on Wednesday, prompting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to respond to these unprovoked hostilities. According to a field source in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, the Turkish Armed Forces and their allied militants launched several artillery shells and rockets toward the Tal Tamr countryside, which was later followed by heavy gunfire from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) troops that targeted the SDF fighters near the strategic Abu Rasin area. The Syrian Democratic Forces responded to this assault by launching a swift counter-attack to drive back the Turkish-backed militants, which proved successful as the latter moved their troops back. Meanwhile, at the Manbij front, the Turkish-backed militants continued their ceasefire violations by launching a number of artillery shells toward the troops of the Manbij Military Council. There was no confirmation about a mutual exchange of hostilities. In northern Al-Raqqa, the Turkish Armed Forces attacked the ‘Ain ‘Issa countryside with a plethora of missiles and artillery, followed by several flybys with their drones. The Turkish Armed Forces and their allied militants have recently intensified their attacks east of the Euphrates, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement that prohibits these hostilities. The escalation by the Turkish Armed Forces also coincides with the return of their allied Syrian mercenaries, who spent two months in the Karabakh region fighting the Armenian forces on behalf of Azerbaijan.

Iraq’s President Salih calls on Sulaymaniyah protestors and police to act peacefully

Iraqi President Barham Salih called on protestors in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province – angered over unpaid wages – and police to act peacefully, Al-Arabiya TV reported. “We have been monitoring for days, with great concern, the escalation of events in the city of Sulaymaniyah, including demonstrations accompanied by acts of violence, which led to the injury of a number of citizens and security forces, and a number of buildings were burned and destroyed,” he said.
He added that a peaceful protest is a guaranteed constitutional right that must be respected. Salih also called on the relevant authorities to meet the demands and work on solving the problem of salaries, and improve living conditions. Meanwhile, Two wells in a small oilfield in northern Iraq were set ablaze by explosives on Wednesday in a “terrorist attack” but overall production from the field was not affected, the Oil Ministry and officials said Wednesday. In a statement issued through its official channel on Telegram, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, though it did not provide any evidence to back up its claim.

Turkey threatens ‘grave consequences’ after east Libyan forces seize its ship over alleged arms smuggling

Ankara has condemned the seizure of a Turkish vessel in the Mediterranean by forces from east Libya, promising a robust response to the interception and calling for the ship to be allowed to continue its journey. “Targeting Turkish interests in Libya will have grave consequences, and these elements (who target Turkish interests) will be viewed as legitimate targets,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The ministry “strongly condemned” the move, stressing that the vessel should be allowed resume its planned voyage “immediately,” and adding that the ship had been fined and the crew detained. The Jamaican-flagged cargo ship ‘Mabruka’ was towed to the port of Ras al-Hilal, east of Benghazi, after being intercepted by the Libyan National Army (LNA) on Monday, as it made its way to Libya’s western port of Misrata. Turkey is a key foreign supporter of Libya’s interim Government of National Accord (GNA) in the west of the country, which has long been fighting the LNA, backed by Egypt, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Iran is ready to return to full compliance with a 2015 nuclear deal with major powers as soon as the other parties honor their commitments, President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday. US President-elect Joe Biden has expressed readiness to return to the agreement but over the past 18 months Iran has suspended the implementation of some of its own obligations, including key limits to its uranium enrichment program. “Just as soon as the 5+1 or 4+1 resume all of their commitments, we will resume all of ours,” Rouhani said. Defying criticism from Iran’s ultra-conservatives, Rouhani reiterated his determination to seize the “opportunity” presented by the change of US president in January. Parliament, which has been controlled by conservatives since a February election marred by record low turnout, passed a bill last week that threatens the prospects for a thaw in relations with Washington. The bill, which still has to be signed into law by Rouhani, would relaunch Iran’s enrichment of uranium to 20 percent purity and threaten other future measures that would likely sound the death knell of the nuclear deal. In a blow to the president, the Guardian Council, which arbitrates disputes between parliament and the government, approved the bill last week.
But in his comments on Wednesday, Rouhani appeared to suggest that he would withhold his signature from the bill.

The situation in Ethiopia is “worrying and volatile” as fighting in the Tigray region continues amid reports of ethnic profiling of Tigrayans including in Addis Ababa, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said on Wednesday. This followed news that a United Nations team visiting refugees in Tigray was shot at after it failed to stop at two checkpoints, the government said on Tuesday, proclaiming it did not need a “baby-sitter”. The UN security team was seeking access to the Shimelba camp for Eritrean refugees when they were fired at by government forces on Sunday. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said there were four people in the UN team assessing roads in the area for aid deliveries. “These are alarming reports and we are engaging at the highest level with the federal government to express our concern and avoid any such incidents in the future,” said Ms Dujarric, adding that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had spoken with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Monday.

Thousands of protesters have converged on the parliament building in Armenia’s capital to push for the resignation of the country’s prime minister over his handling of the conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh. Nikol Pashinyan’s opponents are angry at a peace deal that ended six weeks of fighting over the separatist region but allowed Azerbaijan to take over wide areas that have been controlled by Armenian forces for more than 25 years. Armenia’s opposition parties gave Pashinyan an ultimatum to resign by Tuesday but he has ignored the demand, defending the peace deal as a bitter but necessary move that prevented Azerbaijan from overrunning the entire Nagorno-Karabakh region. About 15,000 protesters marched through downtown Yerevan to the parliament building, chanting “Nikol go away!”. The opposition has been pushing for Pashinyan’s resignation since the Russia-brokered peace deal took effect on November 10. Protests have grown over the past days, with demonstrators blocking traffic in various sections of the capital and also rallying in other cities. The Armenian Apostolic Church and all three of the country’s former presidents have joined the demand for Pashinyan to step down.

Sahrawi President Demands Withdrawal of Morocco From Occupied Territories

President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Brahim Ghali, called upon the African Union (AU) to put pressure on Morocco to end “the illegal military occupation of parts of the territory” of Western Sahara. “The Sahrawi republic, a founding member of the African Union, and following the serious danger of this fresh Moroccan assault, urgently demands that our neighbor, the Kingdom of Morocco, be obliged to fully respect the objectives and principles of the AU Constitutive Act (adopted in July 2000 in Togo) it had signed and ratified without any reservation, and put an end to the military and illegal occupation of certain parts of our national territory,” said the Sahrawi president. Speaking to the 14th extraordinary session of the African Union under the theme “silencing the guns,” held by videoconference, Brahim Ghali added that “the resumption of the armed clashes between the Sahrawi Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco since November 13” had been caused by “the flagrant and blatant violation of the cease-fire agreement by Morocco. He also voiced disappointment with “the failure of the international community to fulfill its promises” with regard to the settlement of the conflict and accused France “to influence the Security Council to divert the peace process from its initial objective, and subsequently undermine the legitimate and inalienable right of our people to establish their own state on all of their national soil.”

Portland has been the site of frequent protests, many involving violent clashes between officers and demonstrators, ever since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May. But most happened at night. A group of activists for months have camped at the home dubbed “Red House on Mississippi” because it is on North Mississippi Avenue — to express their outrage against gentrification and the eviction of the Black and Indigenous family in September. Following the arrests and the clashes, protesters Tuesday afternoon used power tools to set up a barricade with wire fencing, debris and wood pallets to block off street access to the house. The demonstrators also hung signs saying “Stop the Foreclosures” and “No Jurisdiction.”

The Group of Seven (G7) is an intergovernmental organization consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The heads of government of the member states, as well as the representatives of the European Union, meet at the annual G7 Summit. Central banks have accelerated research around central bank digital currencies (CBDC). A sustainable rally of Bitcoin and other major digital currencies has not escaped the notice of global regulators. The G7 Finance Ministers renewed their calls to develop a comprehensive framework for cryptocurrency regulation. They confirmed that all countries support the need to regulate digital assets on a global scale, according to the statement published on Monday, December 7, following the officials’ virtual meeting. The regulators believe that digital payments can improve the financial inclusiveness and reduce costs and inefficiencies of the existing payment systems. However, the process should be totally regulated and controlled by the relevant authorities.  the G7 financial authorities do not have similar negative feelings about cryptocurrency projects developed by central banks. In other words, the largest global economies are ready to give the green light to a cryptocurrency, provided that it is backstopped by a central bank. A similar approach was recently voiced by the Russian central banker, Elvira Nabiullina. The Russian financial authorities admit the benefits of the central bank-issued digital currencies (CBDC) but oppose bitcoins and other digital assets out of the regulatory reach. Moreover, Russian legislators proposed a bill with a blanket ban on using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

New Swedish Children’s Bible To Have ‘Diversity and Gender Perspectives’

A new translation of the Holy Bible from the original Hebrew and Greek for children in Sweden is set to also include perspectives on diversity and gender. The new translation is the first in 25 years and will be undertaken by Church of Sweden Bishop Sören Dalevi, who assumed his role as Bishop of Karlstad in 2016. “The starting point was to make a Children’s Bible that has not existed in Sweden before for a very long time. Namely, one that has both the stories, the hymns, the most famous prayers and the Swedish children’s book illustration style, which is very unique,” Dalevi told broadcaster SVT. According to Dalevi, the new translation will also include diversity among the various characters who he claimed were all portrayed as being white in prior children’s Bibles and that there will be a so-called “gender perspective.” Dalevi told SVT that among the gender perspectives will be the notion that man did not perhaps come before woman in the story of Genesis despite the Book of Genesis Chapter 2, verses 21 through 24 being reasonably clear on the point. The Church of Sweden is known as one of the most progressive liberal Christian churches in Europe and has long supported various causes such as the LGBT movement.

A new “mystery disease” that causes “burning eyes” has already spread to hundreds of people in India

The outbreak of a mysterious new disease in India is creating quite a stir, because so far medical authorities have not been able to identify what is causing it.  Hundreds of very sick people in the city of Eluru have been brought to the hospital, and at least one victim has already died.  Unlike COVID-19, this illness seems to be hitting children particularly hard.  Some of them “started vomiting after complaining of burning eyes”, and quite a few victims have been gripped by seizures and have been “frothing at the mouth”.  Whatever this is, it seems pretty serious. But before I go any further, I want to make it very clear that I believe that it is very important that we don’t jump to any conclusions. Very few disease outbreaks end up developing into global pandemics.  In November, a mystery disease that caused very ugly sores on the skin was reported in Senegal, and we were being told that more than 700 fishermen had been affected.  But since that time that outbreak appears to have fizzled out.  I have been searching for an official explanation for what happened to those fishermen, but so far I have not been able to find one. This new outbreak in India could also fizzle out very rapidly.  We just don’t know.  But whenever a new disease comes along that the medical establishment cannot identify, it is worth watching.  I believe that we have entered a period of time when global pestilences will become a lot more common.

The two healthcare workers developed symptoms of an “anaphylactoid reaction” shortly after being injected with the coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday, the first day of coronavirus vaccinations in the UK. NHS England said that the two healthcare workers had a history of allergic reactions, requiring them both to carry an adrenaline pen. After the incident, the national medical director for the NHS in England, Professor Stephen Powis said per the BBC that it is “common” for people to suffer reactions to new vaccines. “The MHRA have advised on a precautionary basis that people with a significant history of allergic reactions do not receive this vaccination after two people with a history of significant allergic reactions responded adversely yesterday. Both are recovering well,” Powis said. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which is responsible for regulating all medicines and medical devices in the UK, issued advice saying that people with a “significant” history of allergic reactions to food, medicine, or vaccines should avoid taking the vaccine for now. The advice will extend to anyone who needs to carry an adrenaline autoinjector, such as an EpiPen.

And the area experienced an intense supercell and a tornado.” “This was a very rare and probably a historic event for the region. To receive a supercell storm during the winter month of December is very uncommon for this part of Europe. And to top this, the storm also developed a tornado that rolled into the city of Trieste.”

Asteroid 2020 XG2 makes close approach to Earth at 0.13 LD

Newly-discovered asteroid 2020 XK1 flew past Earth at just 0.05 LD

A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 XG2 flew past Earth at a distance of 0.13 LD / 0.00033 AU (49 367 km / 30 675 miles) from the center of our planet at 19:15 UTC on December 7, 2020. The event took place exactly 3 hours after 2020 XK1 flew past us at 0.05 LD – the 18^th closest flyby on record and the 5^th closest in 2020. 2020 XG2 is the 101^st known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 6^th so far this month.  It was first observed at ATLAS-MLO, Mauna Loa, Hawaii on December 8, one day after its close approach to our planet. The object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 7 and 16 m (23 – 52 feet). It flew past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 12.6 km/s.

Biden makes the Netanyahu-Gantz divorce necessary

This isn’t what Israelis want to hear right now, but it’s nonetheless true. They need to hold another election. The prospect of a new administration in Washington is cause for concern, even if it may not prove to be the end of the world. But the challenge that this will pose requires Jerusalem to speak with one voice. An Israeli government with the prime minister’s office at odds with both the defense and foreign ministries is a luxury the Jewish state might have been able to afford as long as President Donald Trump was in the White House, and the U.S.-Israel relationship was one rooted in close cooperation and a common vision about strategic issues. But with President-elect Joe Biden about to take office with a foreign-policy team committed to the failed Middle East policies of the Obama administration, Israel’s margin for error is about to be reduced. Even if that means that Israelis must suffer through the agony of a fourth election inside of two years, a divorce between unity government partners Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz has become a necessity.

Saudi Prince Strongly Criticizes Israel at Bahrain Summit

A prominent Saudi prince harshly criticized Israel on Sunday at a Bahrain security summit that was remotely attended by Israel’s foreign minister, showing the challenges any further deals between Arab states and Israel face in the absence of an independent Palestinian state. Prince Turki opened his remarks by contrasting what he described as Israel’s perception of being “peace-loving upholders of high moral principles” versus what he described as a far-darker Palestinian reality of living under a “Western colonizing” power. Israel has “incarcerated (Palestinians) in concentration camps under the flimsiest of security accusations — young and old, women and men, who are rotting there without recourse to justice,” Prince Turki said. “They are demolishing homes as they wish and they assassinate whomever they want.” The prince also criticized Israel’s undeclared arsenal of nuclear weapons and Israeli governments “unleashing their political minions and their media outlets from other countries to denigrate and demonize Saudi Arabia.” The prince reiterated the kingdom’s official position that the solution lies in implementing the Arab Peace Initiative, a 2002 Saudi-sponsored deal that offers Israel full ties with all Arab states in return for Palestinian statehood on territory Israel captured in 1967.

Bahrain Changes Tune, Says Won’t Allow Imports From Israeli Settlements

Bahrain will not allow imports from Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria, Bahrain’s Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry said on Friday according to a report by the state news agency BNA. The ministry’s statement contradicted the country’s trade minister, who said during a visit to Israel last week that they would be allowed. Bahraini Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani’s statement “was misinterpreted,” the ministry said, adding that “the ministry is committed to the Bahraini government’s unwavering stance regarding adherence to the resolutions of the United Nations, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation concerning the Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Syrian Golan Heights.”

Hezbollah’s Nasrallah to move to Iran amid regional tensions – report

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah plans to move to Iran and may have already made the move, an informed source told the Kuwaiti Al-Jarida newspaper on Wednesday. The source told the paper that intelligence services in Lebanon and neighboring countries have monitored extensive, encrypted communications between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hezbollah concerning the move. Nasrallah is meant to stay in Tehran for an indefinite amount of time and it is unclear when exactly he will return to Lebanon. A Kuwaiti newspaper reported in November that a source close to the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, had stated that Hezbollah had managed to uncover an operation planned by Israel to assassinate Nasrallah and a number of leaders in pro-Iranian factions in Syria, Iraq and the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said on Friday a resolution to a bitter dispute with Qatar seemed “within reach” after Kuwait announced progress towards ending a row that Washington says hampers a united Gulf front against Iran. The United States and Kuwait have worked to end the dispute, during which Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have imposed a diplomatic, trade and travel embargo on Qatar since mid-2017over its closeness to Iran and funding of Islamist terrorism. U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner had held talks in Doha on Wednesday following a visit to Saudi Arabia. “We have made significant progress in the last few days thanks to the continuing efforts of Kuwait but also thanks to strong support from President Trump,” Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told a Rome conference via videolink. The political analyst Hamdan Al-Shehri told Arab News that Iran had been taking advantage of Qatar, and would continue to do so unless Doha came to an agreement with the Anti-Terror Quartet. “First and foremost, Qatar needs to get back to being part of the group in order to play its part in safeguarding the region,” Al-Shehri said. “Qatar’s vulnerable position due to its entanglement with Iran is either out of fear or a show of bold bluntness, both of which came with a cost.” A source in Washington familiar with the discussions said a tentative deal had been reached by the parties and that it could be signed in a few weeks.

Turkish Forces Launch Heavy Attack in Northeastern Syria

Ex-envoy says US and Turkey are preventing Syrian Army from retaking entire country

Turkish Armed Forces, alongside their allied militants, launched a powerful attack on northeastern Syria this evening, when their troops targeted the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Abu Rasin area of Hassakeh. According to a field source in Hassakeh Governorate, the Turkish army launched several artillery shells and rockets toward the SDF’s positions around Abu Rasin; this was followed by heavy rocket fire from the militants of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The source said the attack was unprovoked and did not just target the SDF, but also, the residents of Abu Rasin and its countryside. The Turkish army and their allied militants continue to wreak havoc east of the Euphrates. Meanwhile, in Raqqa and Aleppo governorates, the Turkish army and their allied militants resumed their attacks on the Manbij and Ayn Issa areas, in what appears to be an almost daily occurrence. Since the conclusion of the Karabakh conflict and the return of their Syrian mercenaries, the Turkish Armed Forces have intensified their operations against the SDF east of the Euphrates.

Following years of diplomatic strife, Turkey over the weekend signaled to Israel yet again its desire for rapprochement. On Monday, former admiral Cihat Yayci, a close confidant of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is expected to publish a first-of-its-kind proposal for an agreement on the countries’ shared exclusive economic zones in the Mediterranean Sea. The article will appear in the Israeli academic journal Turkeyscope –published by the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University – indicating in and of itself a desire to quell tensions with Israel. Israel Hayom has learned this was the second such signal of reconciliation from Turkey as it pertains to Israel’s energy market. Four months ago, officials in Ankara sent their Israeli counterparts a clear message about Turkey’s desire to launch talks on the matter. The next proposal followed a report last week in an Erdogan–affiliated Turkish media outlet about secret talks between Mossad officials and their Turkish counterparts. According to the report, in these talks, too, Erdogan’s representatives expressed a desire to readjust relations with Israel. The report also said that in recent months the Turkish leader has ceased making belligerent statements about the Jewish state. According to Yayci’s proposal, meanwhile, the maritime borders between the two countries will come together at the expense of Cyprus. From the perspective of the Turks, the deal proposed to the Israelis is an extension of the maritime border the former admiral constructed with Libya. That deal was signed in Tripoli on November 27 of last year and is the source of the current tensions between Ankara and Athens.

Federal troops have captured the regional capital Mekelle from the former local ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), and declared an end to an offensive that began on November 4. But TPLF leaders say they are fighting back on various fronts around Mekelle. Ethiopian experts fear a drawn-out armed campaign with a destabilizing effect across the wider Horn of Africa region. “The criminal clique pushed a patently false narrative that its fighters and supporters are battle-hardened and well-armed, posing the risk of protracted insurgency in the rugged mountains of Tigray,” Abiy said in a statement. Meanwhile, two diplomatic sources told Reuters news agency on Monday that a United Nations security team seeking to access Shimelba refugee camp, one of four for Eritrean refugees in Tigray, was blocked and fired at on Sunday. The sources declined to give more details, saying the full circumstances were unclear. There was no immediate comment from the government, TPLF or United Nations.

On December 6, heavy clashes broke out in southwestern Libya, when the Libyan National Army (LNA) launched a surprise attack on a military camp controlled by forces loyal to the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). A spokesman for the GNA’s Sirte-al-Jufra operations room, al-Hadi Dara, told Turkish state-run Anadulo Agency that the LNA’s attack was quickly repelled by the camp’s forces. Dara’s claims were denied by Khaled al-Mahjoub, Director of the LNA’s Moral Guidance Department, who told Sky News Arabiya that the Tendy camp was captured. According to al-Mahdjoub, the LNA is working to secure the southwestern region to prevent terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda, from entering the country. The region is indeed infested with al-Qaeda and ISIS remnants. The LNA and the GNA agreed on a ceasefire in June. Until now, the two sides have been engaged in more or less constructive peace talks. Today’s attack may hinder these efforts. The LNA’s surprise attack on Tendy camp may have been provoked by the Turkish military buildup in Libya. In the last few weeks, Turkey stepped up its arms shipments to GNA forces and made preparations to deploy additional Syrian militants in the country.

Pashinyan was denounced as a “traitor” in Saturday’s protests after the Azerbaijani army reclaimed lands that Armenian forces had ruled for more than a quarter-century. More than 20,000 protesters rallied in the capital city of Yerevan on Saturday, many of whom marched to the prime minister’s official residence. Armenia’s opposition parties warned Pashinyan there would be civil disobedience across the country if he does not step down before noon on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states must play a key role in any talks between the US and Iran to revive the deal to curb Tehran’s nuclear program, the Kingdom’s foreign minister said on Saturday. Joe Biden has indicated that when he takes office as US president next month he will return to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which Donald Trump withdrew in 2018. “Primarily what we expect is that we are fully consulted, that we and our regional friends are fully consulted vis a vis the negotiations with Iran,” Prince Faisal bin Farhan said at the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has dispelled any talk of renegotiating the joint nuclear deal abandoned by the Trump administration after Germany’s foreign minister claimed new, tougher terms were needed. “All those familiar with the international laws know that Iran will not do renegotiation on something which has been negotiated before and the resolution 2231 will not change by these remarks,” Khatibzadeh told reporters via video conference on Monday. The spokesman contended that it was not the Iranian side that broke the terms of the deal and insisted it would not be in Tehran’s interest to renegotiate.

Violence erupts between Trump supporters, Antifa at Washington state protests

Washington state police responded to reported gunshots during opposing protests between pro-Trump, pro-police demonstrators and Black Lives Matter and Antifa counterprotesters in Olympia, according to reports.  Olympia police say the groups had started to disperse by 7 p.m., but not before shots were fired, Shore News reported. The counterprotest, “Squash Fascists,” and “Back the Blue” baited each other throughout the day. An individual brandished a weapon during one of the early confrontations, which was captured on footage by Independent Media PDX. Police arrested the individual, and officers are investigating reports that shots were fired earlier on Saturday. Similar protests occurred in nearby states, with an anti-Proud Boy march in Sacramento, Calif., and an anti-conservative rally in St. Paul, Minn., The Blaze reported.

France: Protests turn violent again

Thousands of people, including members of the anti-government Yellow Vest movement, had been marching peacefully in the capital when pockets of protesters, dressed in black and with their faces covered, started launching projectiles at riot police, Reuters reports. The windows of a supermarket, property agency and bank were smashed, according to the AFP news agency, and police responded to the violence by firing tear gas. Some of the demonstrators set up impromptu barricades in the street which they set on fire, it added. Paris police, quoted by BFM TV, said some 500 rioters had infiltrated the protest. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 22 people had been detained over the incidents. Police had been heavily deployed to the capital in a bid to avoid a repeat of the violent clashes seen there last weekend over the same law, which left dozens wounded.

Hundreds arrested in fresh Belarus protests against Lukashenko

Mass protests have rocked Belarus, a former Soviet republic in eastern Europe, since official results from the Aug. 9 presidential election gave Lukashenko a landslide victory over his widely popular opponent, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. She and her supporters refused to recognize the result, saying the vote was riddled with fraud. Thousands of people Sunday took part in dozens of small rallies scattered all over Minsk, the Belarusian capital — a new tactic the opposition employed instead of one large gathering to make it harder for the security forces to target the protesters. “We believe! We can! We will win!” the demonstrators chanted. Several people wore Santa Claus costumes and masks depicting President Alexander Lukashenko. “Give Belarusians a gift: go away,” a banner they carried read. On Sunday, water cannons, armored vehicles and military trucks were seen in the center of Minsk. Several subway stations were closed and internet access was restricted. Police in Minsk said they detained more than 300 people. The Viasna human rights group released the names of 189 people detained in Minsk and other cities, where rallies also took place. Authorities have cracked down hard on the largely peaceful demonstrations, the biggest of which attracted up to 200,000 people. Police used stun grenades, tear gas and truncheons to disperse the rallies.

We already knew that this was going to be the worst winter for the U.S. economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s, but now a new round of lockdowns threatens to rip the guts out of hundreds of thousands of small businesses all around the country.  As I write this article, 33 million people are under “stay-at-home orders” in California alone.  With each passing day, state governments are implementing even more new restrictions, and those new restrictions are going to increasingly choke the life out of economic activity in this nation. The good news is that most of the corporate giants have enough resources to weather another round of lockdowns, but countless small businesses do not. Even in the most wildly optimistic scenario imaginable, it is hard to imagine how we could possibly avoid the most painful winter for the U.S. economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Perhaps that is why corporate insiders are now selling stocks at the fastest pace that we have seen in almost four years. Corporate insiders absolutely nailed the two short-term peaks in the market that we witnessed earlier this year, and now they seem to think that an even larger move down is coming. But ultimately what we are heading into is not just another temporary economic setback.  Sadly, the truth is that our entire system has started the process of completely melting down.

China hands out $3 million of digital yuan as JD.com becomes first online platform to accept it

Chinese e-commerce firm JD.com said it has become the first online platform to accept the country’s digital currency. The announcement on Saturday comes as part of another real-world major trial for the digital yuan in Suzhou, a city that’s about 65 miles west of Shanghai. A total of 20 million yuan ($3 million) will be up for grabs in a lottery, according to a WeChat post by JD Digits, JD.com’s fintech arm. Winners will receive a so-called “red packet” via an app containing a maximum of 200 yuan of the digital currency. A hundred thousand of these red packets will be distributed. The digital yuan, which is controlled and issued by the People’s Bank of China, is what’s known as a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The central bank calls its project the Digital Currency Electronic Payment or DCEP, though it has remained quite tight-lipped about its development. Central bank digital currencies are unlike cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, or even the Facebook-backed digital coin Libra (now re-branded as Diem). That’s because they are controlled and issued by a central bank. The BIS, a group of central banks, said earlier this year that 80% of the world’s central banks “had already started to conceptualize and research the potential for CBDCs.”

Scientists develop world’s 1st mobile DNA sequence analyzer app

Researchers at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) have developed the world’s first mobile genome sequence analyzer app for smartphones, bringing humanity one step closer to the realm of science fiction. The mobile lab, which science fiction fans might argue sounds suspiciously like Star Trek’s “tricorder” device, works in tandem with sequencers like Illumina, Ion Torrent, PacBio, or Oxford Nanopore to sample DNA which is then analyzed on the iPhone app called iGenomics. Researchers claim the system precludes the need for bulky yet sensitive lab equipment, freeing up everyone from pandemic and biohazard specialists and first responders to ecologists working in the field, in some of the most remote parts of the planet, as well as the average consumer. The iGenomics algorithm can reportedly map DNA sequences of viral pathogens, from strains of bird flu to the Zika virus, while also identifying mutations which could save crucial time in both diagnosis and treatment of disease. The iGenomics development team also shared a tutorial online detailing how to analyze SARS-CoV-2 genomes. “Today, we all carry professional cameras in our pockets, so it’s not that hard to imagine in the next couple years, all of us carrying our own DNA sequencers on our smartphones, as well,” the researchers write, adding that people may soon be able to scan themselves for pathogens using just their smartphones, which may prove crucial in a post-Covid-19 era.

New progressive Methodist denomination formed before possible UMC schism over LGBT issues

A group of theologically progressive United Methodists and others have formed a new denomination in advance of an expected schism within the United Methodist Church over LGBT issues. Known as the Liberation Methodist Connexion (LMX), the creation of the new group was announced Sunday during an online worship service. “We are a grassroots denomination of former, current, and non-Methodist faith leaders working on the unfolding of the kin-dom of God,” they explain on their website. “We intentionally invite the full participation of all who are living out their God-given identities and expressions.” Those they welcome include all “gender expressions and sexual identity,” “religious or non-religious backgrounds,” “races and ethnicities,” “size,” and “monogamous and non-monogamous.” Over the past several years, the United Methodist Church has experienced increasingly polarizing debate over its biblical stance on homosexuality. The UMC Book of Discipline says homosexuality is “incompatible with Christian teaching” and defines marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Pope Francis Adopts Slogan ‘Build Back Better’

Pope Francis has chosen “build back better” to describe his vision for the great reset after the coronavirus pandemic, saying he finds the expression “quite striking.” “The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Building Back Better: Toward a Disability-inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable post-COVID-19 World,” the pope wrote in his message this week for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, while adding, “I find the expression ‘building back better’ quite striking.” As Gian Guido Vecchi noted in an article Friday in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the Vatican chose to translate the Italian title “Riconstruire Meglio” using the exact words that Biden (and the United Nations) employs. On his official website, Biden explains the message behind “build back better” by insisting that “this is no time to just build back to the way things were before, with the old economy’s structural weaknesses and inequalities still in place. This is the moment to imagine and build a new American economy for our families and the next generation.” Biden’s version of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) “Great Reset” looks remarkably similar to that of Pope Francis. “We will be able to regenerate society and not return to so-called ‘normality,’ which is an ailing normality, indeed which was ailing before the pandemic: the pandemic highlighted it!,” he said, adding that the old normality “was sick with injustice, inequality and environmental degradation.” In his recent op-ed for the New York Times, the pope wrote that this “is a moment to dream big, to rethink our priorities — what we value, what we want, what we seek — and to commit to act in our daily life on what we have dreamed of.”

US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill to decriminalise cannabis at the national level for the first time. It calls for removing cannabis from the list of federally controlled substances and erasing certain federal convictions. It also supports reinvestment in communities adversely impacted by the decades-long “war on drugs”. The bill is very unlikely to be taken up in the Republican-controlled Senate. The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (More) Act was passed in the lower chamber 228 to 164 on Friday afternoon, with five Republicans – and one independent – supporting the measure. To become law, the bill needs to pass the Senate and be signed by the president. If that happens, it could help bridge a major disconnect between national and state drug policy in the US.

Unusually large tornado hits Sakaka, Saudi Arabia – one of the largest ever documented in the country

A massive tornado formed on the outskirts of Sakaka in Al Jawf, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Meteorologists said it was unusually big for the region and one of the largest tornadoes ever documented in the country. The incredible tornado occurred in the middle of the desert and reached an uninhabited area, according to Metsul Meteorologia. “Weather radars captured the storm supercell responsible for the tornado in Al-Jawf Province in northern Saudi Arabia,” it stated. The storm system also brought heavy rain and hail. The meteorological authority added that among the affected regions wereTabuk, Hail, Al-Qassim, and parts of Madinah, Riyadh. Wind speeds were between 16 and 40 km/h (10 and 25 mph), while waves on the Red Sea reached up to 2 m (6.5 feet).

Historic hailstorm hits Beirut, Lebanon

A massive hailstorm accompanied by exceptionally heavy rain and drastic temperature drop hit Lebanon’s capital Beirut on December 5, 2020, causing massive floods and traffic chaos. The last time Beirut witnessed a similar event was back in 1968. The hailstorm lasted about 1 hour and was described by meteorologists as historic. “This supercell affected only the coastal area around Beirut and its suburbs. A supercell effect is always local. Weather stations in Beirut recorded 50 mm [1.96 inches] of rainfall in a lapse of 25 minutes,” Elias Saadeh, founder of Lebanon Weather Forecast, told Al Arabiya English. “This quantity is considered enormous since it is equivalent to pouring 50 liters of water in each square meter [13 gallons per 10 feet²] in 25 minutes. Moreover, this supercell caused a drastic drop in temperature from 21 to 13.5 °C [69.8 – 55.4 °F] in a couple of minutes,” Saadeh said.

NASA sounds alarm over 5 incoming rocks

NASA is warning about five space rocks en route to Earth this week, right as Japan’s space agency completed a dropoff of the world’s first subsurface asteroid material, before continuing its planetary defense recon mission. The Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) has clocked five asteroids headed toward Earth’s vicinity each measuring over 20 meters in diameter, starting with the 21-meter 2020 XB1 which will fly past the planet at a safe distance of 3.1 million kilometers (considered ‘close’ by astronomical standards) on December 7. Then on Tuesday, December 8, 2018 PK21 (22 meters), and the 33-meter 2020 WK3 (roughly half the wingspan of a 747 jet) will shoot past at 4.6 and 3.8 million kilometers respectively. The very next day, with a diameter roughly half the height of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the 26-meter 2020 XD will fly by at 4.8 million kilometers. Bringing up the rear on December 11 will be asteroid 2020 VC7, measuring a whopping 55 meters or the same height as the Leaning Tower of Pisa at a distance of 5.6 million kilometers.

We all know that vaccines for the Coronavirus are coming.  We also know that most countries in the world cannot FORCE anyone to take this vaccine.  But we can see they are coming up with creative ways to ‘motivate’ people to be vaccinated.  To quote two of the above articles: “Government won’t force you to take vaccine. Amazon will. Airlines will. Banks will. You won’t be able to buy, sell, or trade without the vaccine.” “After This New Wave Of Lockdowns, Most People Will Accept Any “Solution” Because They Will Be So Desperate”  

Freedom of movement, of travel. A return to a ‘normal’ life. A new proposal is to tie a $1500 stimulus checks to being vaccinated. What if that $1500 came in the form of centralized bank digital currency?

We can see from the above article that China has done a test run in the city of Shenzhen.  In October, China launched one of the biggest real-world trials for its digital currency, when the government in Shenzhen carried out a lottery to give away a total of 10 million yuan (about $1.5 million) worth of the digital currency. Nearly 2 million people applied and 50,000 people actually won. The winners are required to download a digital Renminbi app in order to receive a “red packet” worth 200 digital yuan ($30), which they can then spend at over 3,000 designated retailers in Shenzhen’s Luohu district, according to China Daily. After that, they’ll be able to buy goods from local pharmacies, supermarkets and even Walmart. The idea was to not only test the technology involved, but boost consumer spending in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, unlike traditional central bank account-based currencies such as reserves, or decentralized cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, China’s digital currency would be controlled by the country’s central bank and will be instantly made available at a moment’s notice to anyone who can receive it. Without any consumer-facing liability – it’s not a loan or a debt – the propensity to spend the digital currency is virtually instant and without limitation. After all, it’s money that the central bank  created out of thin air and has handed out to whoever it so chooses – a form of massive universal basic income or unprecedented population subsidy – in hopes of sparking higher prices.

The internet and news have been all a buzz lately with stories about something called the Great Reset.  What in the world is it?  Well, it’s not a conspiracy theory despite what the New York Times has said.  You can actually read all about it for yourself on the World Economic Forum.

The Great Reset” is a “unique window of opportunity” for global leaders to shape “the future state of global relations, the direction of national economies, the priorities of societies, the nature of business models and the management of a global commons”.  To achieve a better outcome, the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed. In short, we need a “Great Reset” of capitalism. 

The Great Reset agenda would have three main components. The first involves reforming our economic systems so that they will “promote more equitable outcomes… Moreover, governments should implement long-overdue reforms that promote more equitable outcomes. Depending on the country, these may include changes to wealth taxes, the withdrawal of fossil-fuel subsidies, and new rules governing intellectual property, trade, and competition.” 

The second component of a Great Reset agenda would ensure that investments advance shared goals, such as equality and sustainability. Here, the large-scale spending programs that many governments are implementing represent a major opportunity for progress. The European Commission, for one, has unveiled plans for a €750 billion ($826 billion) recovery fund. The US, China, and Japan also have ambitious economic-stimulus plans. Rather than using these funds, as well as investments from private entities and pension funds, to fill cracks in the old system, we should use them to create a new one that is more resilient, equitable, and sustainable in the long run. This means, for example, building “green” urban infrastructure and creating incentives for industries to improve their track record on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics.

The third and final priority of a Great Reset agenda is to harness the innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to support the public good, especially by addressing health and social challenges. During the COVID-19 crisis, companies, universities, and others have joined forces to develop diagnostics, therapeutics, and possible vaccines; establish testing centers; create mechanisms for tracing infections; and deliver telemedicine. Imagine what could be possible if similar concerted efforts were made in every sector. 

By issuing CBDC’s (money) and tying it to a vaccine for coronavirus (which would also allow to freedom of movement, travel, a return to normal life) it is conceivable that the Great Reset would become a primary agenda the world over.  For nations in debt, to receive aid they would need to agree to promote the Great Reset agenda in their country.  For the people of the country to receive aid, they would need to agree to a vaccine.  Trickle down economics….but not the way President Reagan imagined.

Think about this. As long as President Trump was President there was no way he would allow America to fall into the global scheme. Hence the powers to be had to get rid of Trump in order to fully carry out any type of global reset.  Trumps’ enemies began their assault on Trump even before Trump was elected as President. Just about every mainstream media organization was used  and is still being used as a front line weapon against Trump feeding the population only what they wanted you to hear. If President Trump can not pull off a miracle and win in court the U.S. will have placed in office the perfect man to paddle downstream with the global elite to bring about the global reset that at the end of the day will lead to Jesus’ warning given to us in Revelation chapter 13:17: “And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

MKs approve preliminary vote to dissolve Knesset

The Knesset on Wednesday afternoon approved the preliminary vote on a bill to dissolve itself, threatening to plunge Israel into its fourth election in less than two years. Bill needs to pass 3 more readings before fourth elections in two years is called. The bill, which passed by 61 votes to 54, requires three additional successful readings in the Knesset before it passes and new elections must be called, giving coalition leaders a chance to resolve their differences that for now are centered around the state budget. If the long-term budget is passed, Netanyahu would no longer have the 2021 budget as a trump card and would be forced to commit to the rotation agreement that would mean Gantz taking over as prime minister next year. But if the government collapses because a budget has not been passed, Netanyahu would remain as prime minister throughout the three-month election campaign and until a new coalition is formed.

Sudan puts Israel ties on hold until US grants immunity

Sudan will not proceed with normalizing relations with Israel until the US Congress passes legislation giving Khartoum immunity from future lawsuits from terror victims, Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan reportedly told US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Burhan set a deadline of the end of this year for Congress to pass the “legal peace” bill, in a conversation first reported by The New York Times and confirmed by diplomatic sources. If Congress does not pass the bill before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, it would likely become a much lower-priority item and take months to get back on the agenda. The final agreement between Sudan and the US required the former to pay $335 million in compensation to victims of the 1998 terrorist attacks on the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The bill the Trump administration seeks to have Congress approve would shield Sudan from further lawsuits from US victims of terror. Sudan, however, would be unlikely to accept an agreement that would require them to pay more to compensate victims of terror.

Saudi-led Coalition bombs Sanaa Airport as Houthi forces close-in on strategic city

The Saudi-led Coalition was accused of bombing the Sanaa International Airport in two separate attacks on Wednesday, Yemen’s Al-Masirah TV reported. According to the Al-Masirah TV report, the Saudi-led Coalition warplanes launched at least two airstrikes on northwestern Yemen’s only functioning airport, which has been subjected to attacks in the past. The report stated that “one of the aggression’s raids targeted the reception building, which is under construction, at the airport, which caused severe material damage.” In addition to the airstrikes on the Sanaa Airport, the Saudi-led Coalition also targeted a number of sites inside the Hajjah and Sa’ada governorates, as they intensify their air campaign over northwestern Yemen.

Airstrike kills IRGC commander at Iraq-Syria border – Iraqi officials

An airstrike killed a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards at the Iraq-Syria border sometime between Saturday and Sunday, Iraqi security and local militia officials said on Monday. They could not confirm the identity of the commander, who they said was killed alongside three other men traveling in a vehicle with him. The vehicle was carrying weapons across the Iraqi border and was hit after it had entered Syrian territory, two Iraqi security officials separately said. Iran-backed Iraqi paramilitary groups helped retrieve the bodies, the two officials said, without elaborating or giving the exact time of the incident. Local military and militia sources confirmed the account, although Reuters was unable to verify independently that an Iranian commander had been killed. The incident came just days after Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated in Tehran in a killing that Iran has blamed on Israel.

 Biden: US will rejoin Iran nuclear deal if Tehran returns to strict compliance

A key Iranian panel has signed off on a bill to suspend UN inspections and boost uranium enrichment, sending it to Iran’s president, who opposes the measure. Iranian state TV says the constitutional watchdog, the Guardian Council, approved the bill and formally sent it to Hassan Rouhani who now has five working days to officially sign off on a bill to make it executable. Rouhani earlier on Wednesday expressed his opposition to the bill approved by parliament the previous day, saying it would be “harmful” to diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring the 2015 nuclear deal and easing US sanctions. The bill would suspend UN inspections and require the government to resume enriching uranium to 20% if European nations fail to provide relief from crippling US sanctions on the country’s oil and banking sectors. That level falls short of the threshold needed for nuclear weapons but is higher than that required for civilian purposes.

High ranking official in Tigray Liberation Front surrenders to Ethiopian Army

UN and Ethiopia reach agreement to allow aid into embattled Tigray

The Ethiopian government announced on Tuesday that a high-ranking politician linked to the rebellion in the northern Tigray region has surrendered to government forces. In a tweet posted on Tuesday, the government task force of Tigray said: “Keriya Ibrahim, one of the nine leaders of the Central Committee of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, surrendered to the federal forces.” On Monday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that the dissident leaders in the Tigray region had fled to the west from the provincial capital after weeks of fighting, but indicated that federal forces were closely monitoring them and would attack them soon. On Saturday, the Prime Minister announced that the military operations were “completed” after the federal forces announced their control of Mikkeli, the capital of the Tigray region. However, the leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front have repeatedly pledged to continue fighting as long as federal forces remain on Tigrayan territory.

Putin Urges Allies to Support Embattled Armenian PM

The Azerbaijani takeover of Lachin, the last of three districts handed back by Armenia under a deal to stop fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh, ends the first stage of a Russian-brokered peace process. But the decades-old dispute over Karabakh, an ethnic Armenian region that broke away from Azerbaijan during a war in the 1990s, is far from resolved. Decades of talks chaired by France, Russia and the United States — the so-called Minsk Group — failed to find a political settlement over the region’s status. Russia’s crucial role in ending the latest fighting has moved it to the forefront and Azerbaijan is very keen for key ally Turkey to be involved in mediation efforts. The credibility of the Minsk Group is also being called into question, in particular by Azerbaijan which last week lashed out at France after its Senate passed a resolution calling for the recognition of Karabakh as independent. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged fellow members of a post-Soviet military bloc to support Armenia’s prime minister as he grapples with domestic pressure over his agreement to a Moscow-brokered peace deal with Azerbaijan.

Rockets fired at French and UN bases in Mali

Islamist militant fighters linked to al-Qaeda have fired rockets at three military bases in northern Mali in what is a rare coordinated attack on foreign forces. French military bases in Kidal, Menaka and Gao were hit although no deaths or injuries were reported by officials. A spokesman said a UN base in Kidal was damaged. Earlier this month French forces killed Bah ag Moussa, a military leader of Mali’s most prominent group – known as JNIM. France has more than 5,000 troops in the Sahel. Despite international efforts the jihadist violence has steadily spread from Mali across the region.

Putin Pressures Lukashenko to Implement His Previous Integration Concessions

Russian President Vladimir Putin urged political forces in Belarus on Wednesday to try to resolve their differences through dialogue, and also said the ex-Soviet republic, a close Moscow ally, was facing unprecedented meddling by external forces. Russia’s backing is seen as vital for Lukashenko’s chances of staying in power and its statements are closely scrutinised for changes in tone or any sign that Moscow could be pushing for some kind of managed power transition. “I really hope the Belarusian people have the political maturity to calmly and without any sharp movements build a domestic political dialogue with all political forces and resolve all its internal questions themselves without any kind of external pressure and outside interference,” Putin told an online meeting of a Russia-led security bloc attended by Lukashenko. Russia has ostensibly backed Lukashenko throughout the turmoil, but signs have begun to emerge that it wants him to de-escalate the situation, enter talks with his opponents, and embark on long-promised constitutional reforms, a process that could culminate in him stepping down.

Thailand’s prime minister acquitted amid calls for resignation

Thailand’s prime minister has been acquitted of violating the Constitution amid accusations of abuse of power and calls for his resignation. Thailand’s Constitutional Court ruled Wednesday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was not illegally occupying a military-owned residence after the 2014 coup, Singapore’s Straits Times and The Thaiger reported. Prayut, 66, would have had to step down if convicted. On Wednesday evening, protesters in Bangkok condemned the court decision while chanting, “Get out” and “Evil prime minister,” according to the Straits Times. Prayut led the coup that forced Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra out of power. He is accused of staying in state-owned housing after retiring from the military in September 2014. The prime minister, who did not appear in court Wednesday, previously said his home was being renovated and his security detail had recommended he stay on army property. Thailand’s peaceful protesters have urged Prayut to resign since the summer and continue to call for revisions to Thailand’s Constitution. Activists called for royal reform Wednesday.

UN Appeals for Record $35 Billion as COVID-19 Wreaks Havoc

The United Nations is appealing for a record $35 billion to provide a humanitarian lifeline to 165 million of the world’s most vulnerable, needy people in 56 countries. U.N. humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock calls the crisis gripping the world one of the bleakest and darkest ever experienced by a huge slice of humanity. Lowcock says this disaster comes on top of escalating and protracted conflicts and increasing extreme weather events including storms, floods and drought due to climate change. Lowcock says the COVID-19 crisis has plunged millions of people into poverty and sent humanitarian needs skyrocketing.  While the rich world can see the light at the end of the tunnel, he says the same cannot be said for the poorest countries. He is appealing to the humanity and generosity of international donors to safeguard the lives of those who cannot fend for themselves.

When most people hear about digital currency, they think of Bitcoin- a cryptocurrency. Cryptos have grown in the recent past due to their decentralization. They have had no central authority determining their supply and operations. This, however, is becoming unattainable as the cryptos become mainstream. Earlier on, most governments had let the cryptos prosper. They would operate without any interference. However, the global regulatory framework of cryptocurrencies favors strict regulations. Most of the countries are likely to adopt aggressive regulatory provisions. Cryptocurrency will ultimately be replaced by centralized bank digital currency- a government controlled and backed digital form of fiat currency.  Direct provision of retail deposit accounts by the Federal Reserve, extending to households and nonfinancial businesses what is currently only available to member banks of the Federal Reserve System. Central bank provision of retail accounts is gaining traction around the world, often in the guise of central bank digital currency (CBDC) proposals. Whereas in Britain and the euro area, CBDCs are supposed to address the decline of cash use and the growth of nonbank e-money providers, in America FedAccounts are mainly intended as a tool for financial inclusion.

Biden’s LGBT proposals aim to ban therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction, allow trans-athletes in girls’ sports

Following the media’s projection of his victory in the 2020 presidential election, former Vice President Joe Biden has made “sweeping promises” to LGBT activists, according to The Associated Press. Biden, a Democrat, plans to “carry out virtually every proposal” that LGBT activists have pushed for in recent years, the AP said. Biden’s agenda includes allowing individuals who identify as transgender to enlist in the military, as well as allow trans-identified servicemen to enter women’s-only areas (and vice versa), and cover trans-surgeries and cross-sex hormones for members of the military. He also plans to require all government contractors to have anti-LGBT discrimination policies, and will create LGBT rights positions at the State Department, National Security Agency, and other federal agencies. The Biden campaign’s website includes a lengthy document detailing “the Biden plan to advance LGBTQ+ equality in America and around the world.”

UN removes cannabis from list of dangerous drugs, opening door for further research and legalization

GOP leaders lay into Pelosi for marijuana legalization bill

A United Nations commission has finally decided that medicinal cannabis is less dangerous than risky narcotics such as heroin. The long-delayed decision paves the way for further research and strengthens legalization efforts. The Vienna-based Commission for Narcotic Drugs voted to remove marijuana for medical use from a category that includes many of the world’s most dangerous drugs, including highly addictive opioids. The long-delayed decision reclassifies cannabis and its derivatives and it clears the way for further investigation of marijuana’s medical and research capabilities. The development is a symbolic win for marijuana advocates who argue that many countries’ policies around the drug are out of date. Cannabis consultant Jessica Steinberg told the New York Times that while the legal marijuana market in Europe and the US is driving legalization policy, Wednesday’s UN vote could have its most lasting effect on countries in Asia and the Caribbean.

Israeli Health Ministry Director Hezy Levy yesterday insisted to reporters that “we won’t force people to take a vaccine. Israeli law doesn’t allow for it,” speaking before the Special Knesset Coronavirus Committee chaired by MK Yifat Shasha-Biton, Sheba Medical Center Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Eyal Zimlichman listed measures that are being planned to “maneuver” the population into vaccinating as a way of regaining freedom of movement. The issue of how to “motivate” vaccine compliance has generated increasing interest, with commentators such as Mike Cernovich writing: “Government won’t force you to take vaccine. Amazon will. Airlines will. Banks will. You won’t be able to buy, sell, or trade without the vaccine.”

At least 50 explosions in 9 hours at Telica volcano, Nicaragua

An uptick in activity has been observed at the Nicaraguan Telica volcano on Monday, November 30, 2020, with low-level ash emission and dozens of explosions at regular rates. Ashfall was reported in nearby communities, including El Panal, Cristo Rey, Los Cocos, and Los Ángeles​. At least 50 explosions were recorded within 9 hours on November 30, with a maximum height of ash between 100 and 400 m (330 – 1 300 feet) above the crater. This is about 1.5 km (5 000 feet) above sea level. “This activity is part of the normal behavior of an active volcano and it is very likely that similar explosions will occur in the next few days,” the Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (INETER) said. Volcanic ash emissions ended by 06:34 UTC on Tuesday, December 1, and resumed at around 12:41 UTC on the same day. At 18:31 UTC, the Washington VAAC reported constant ash emissions, moving SW from the summit.

Saudi prince delays normalization pact with Israel due to Biden win — report

Jared Kushner to lead a delegation to Saudi Arabia, Qatar

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly pulled back from a normalization deal with Israel due to US President-elect Joe Biden’s election win this month and the prince’s desire to build ties with the incoming administration. Bin Salman, son of the 84-year-old King Salman and the kingdom’s de facto ruler, is reluctant “to take the step now, when he could use a deal later to help cement relations with the new American leader,”. The president-elect said in October that the US under his administration would “reassess our relationship” with Riyadh. Last week, Biden said he would punish Saudi leaders over the journalist’s murder.  Meanwhile, A White House delegation, spearheaded by senior advisor to the president Jared Kushner, will travel to Saudi Arabia and Qatar this week, The Jerusalem Post has confirmed. According to a person familiar with the travel plan, the meeting’s main objective is to ease the tensions between Qatar and Saudi Arabia along with other Gulf states. An administration official said this rift undermines the stability in the region and has the potential to undermine the progress made in the Abraham Accords.

Hamas Laments Resumption of PA-IDF Security Coordination in the West Bank

As the Biden administration takes shape and prepares for the White House, the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections appears to have ended pretenses of reconciliation by bitter Palestinian rivals Hamas and the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority (PA). The PA has announced that it is resuming security coordination with Israel, and this in turn raises the likelihood of an uptick in anti-Hamas security operations by PA security forces in the West Bank. Hamas has condemned the PA’s decision to re-establish security coordination with Israel and called it a setback to its own reconciliation efforts with the PA. “The [Palestinian] Authority has with this step thrown aside all its values and national principles, and the result of the historical meeting between Hamas and Fatah’s leadership,” a Hamas statement said last week. Abbas’s decision to return to coordination with Israel is part of a signal he is sending to the incoming Biden administration, which is intended to “portray him as one of the good guys,” Col. (res.) Moshe Elad, one of the founders of the security coordination between the IDF and the Palestinian Authority, told the Investigative Project on Terrorism. Ultimately, Elad said, Hamas–Fatah reconciliation efforts are doomed to fail, as the long list of unsuccessful attempts made since 2007 has demonstrated. “Not once has it succeeded. The significance is that this latest effort too will fail,” he said. “They will categorically not draw closer, for many reasons.” These include the searing memory harbored by Fatah personnel over the blood of their fellow Fatah members spilled by Hamas in Gaza in 2007, as well as a lengthy litany of mutual recriminations. “Nothing has changed. The fact that Biden’s arrival caused this latest reconciliation effort to stop shows that it’s simply a circus, that there’s nothing real behind it,” said Elad.

Israel-Lebanon maritime border talks postponed, both sides say

Maritime border talks between Lebanon and Israel scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed, and U.S. mediators will now contact the two old foes separately, Israeli and Lebanese officials said on Monday. The negotiations were launched in October with delegations convening at a U.N. base to try to resolve a dispute about their maritime border that has held up hydrocarbon exploration in the potentially gas-rich area. A Lebanese security source said the reason for the delay was Israel’s rejection of Lebanese proposals. Steinitz said last week there had been no breakthrough after four rounds of talks and that Lebanon had “so far presented positions which add up to a provocation.” He said he expected “many more hurdles and bust-ups” but hoped a breakthrough could be reached in a few months.

Warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition carried out a wave of airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa and its outskirts, which are controlled by the Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah. According to the pro-Houthis al-Masirah TV, five airstrikes targeted the Attan neighborhood, the Military Academy and the al-Hafa area in Sanaa. At least twelve other airstrikes hit the following areas near the capital: The Ayban Mount in the district of Bani Matar; The al-Sama’a area in the district of Arhab; The villages of Rima Hamid and Jarban in the district of Sanhan. Saudi-led coalition warplanes also carried out at least four airstrikes on the village of al-Jarbah of al-Durayhimi district in the western province of al-Hudaydah. According to the Ministry of Health in Sanaa, a civilian was killed and four others were wounded as a result of Saudi-led coalition airstrikes. The Saudi-led coalition has not yet released any statement clarifying the aims of its airstrikes. However, the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV said the airstrikes targeted military camps and missile launchers of the Houthis. The airstrikes were likely a response to two recent successful attacks by the Houthis, which targeted an oil facility and a tanker near the western Saudi city of Jeddah.

Four people were shot dead and dozens wounded in Iraq’s south on Friday, medics said, in clashes between anti-government protesters and supporters of firebrand Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr. The violence erupted as tens of thousands of Sadr supporters hit the streets of Baghdad and the southern city of Nasiriyah in a show of force as preparations ramp up for June parliamentary elections. On Friday, followers of the cleric attacked a tent camp of anti-government protesters in Nasiriyah’s Habboubi Square, said Mohammad Al-Khayyat, a leader of the anti-government movement. Medical sources told AFP that the violence had left four people dead and wounded 51 others, nine of them by gunfire. Meanwhile, Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack that set an oil refinery in northern Iraq on fire. The refinery was previously put out of action by IS during the caliphate’s Iraqi campaign. Two rockets struck the Siniya refinery on Sunday afternoon, hitting a fuel storage depot and setting the facility ablaze, Reuters reported. Shortly afterwards, Islamic State took responsibility for the attack. There were no casualties reported, but the blaze halted production at the site.

Head of Iran’s nuclear program Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, 59, was assassinated in Damavand, east of Tehran, local Iranian news reported on Friday. Fakhrizadeh was a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) officer and headed Iran’s nuclear weapons project. “The nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated today by terrorists,” the Iranian Defense Ministry wrote in a statement, while not blaming any specific entity for the incident. However, Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif later stated on Twitter that “serious indication” pointed to Israeli involvement and urged the international community to condemn the attack. Iran’s revolutionary guards commander wrote on Twitter that Iran will avenge the killing of scientists as it has in the past. Pictures from the scene show two vehicles, one blown up and one shot at from the front. Several local reports in Iran indicated that a suicide bomber was involved in the attack, but that has not yet been confirmed. Remote-controlled weapons killed Iranian nuclear scientist and key nuclear program chief Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, according to Iranian accounts. But, another account has it differently: a handful of assassins did it. Yet a third explanation has it that 12 men came with several vehicles, using one of them to blow up and block the security convoy that was protecting the high-value target. The competing narratives over the killing of the man who was at the pinnacle of Iran’s nuclear industrial complex are befitting one who was known to be in the spotlight.

Dozens killed in pair of suicide bombings in Afghanistan

At least 30 people were killed in a car bomb attack in Afghanistan’s central province of Ghazni on Sunday. Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency that the death toll included civilians and soldiers, adding that nine soldiers were killed and seven more were injured. The Ghazni public health department reported a higher total to CNN, saying 40 people were killed and 24 were injured. Naseer Ahmad, head of the provincial council in Ghazni, said the bombing targeted security forces amid the morning rush hour. The Defense Ministry said the attacker attempted to drive a car packed with explosives inside a military base but was confronted by security forces. A second bombing took place in the neighboring province of Zabul, killing one person and injuring 20 others, mostly civilians. No group immediately claimed responsibility for either attack.

Some residents had earlier fled to the city’s outskirts, he added. Meanwhile, the US embassy in neighbouring Eritrea said six explosions were heard in the capital Asmara late on Saturday. It is not clear if the latest incidents in Asmara are linked to the fighting in Tigray. Debretsion Gebremichael, the leader of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, said on Sunday (Monday AEDT), that his forces had regained control of Axum, a city the federal army took a week ago. They also shot down a MiG-23 aircraft and had its pilot in custody, he said by text message.

Sahrawi forces launch powerful attack on Moroccan army sites

The Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, affiliated with the Polisario Front, continued its attacks on the bases and centers of the Moroccan army near the border security fence. The An-Nahar newspaper quoted an Algerian statement to the Ministry of Desert Defense as saying that several sites were targeted by the Sahrawi forces, including several areas behind the border fence. The statement continued, “Today, Thursday, the bombing targeted the Moroccan soldiers’ bases in the Fudra al-Ish area in the Hawza sector and the Amkli Azglama area in the Amgala sector, as well as the Azmul Umm Khamla area in the Um Adriev sector and the Mahbas sector.” The statement claimed that this attack inflicted considerable losses on the Moroccan forces in lives and equipment along the Moroccan wall that divides Western Sahara. The leaders of the Moroccan political parties had announced their intention to go to Guerguerat in Western Sahara to support the army’s efforts in responding to the Polisario Front. The Moroccan Ministry of Defense has not responded to these claims from the Polisario Front.

Farm workers killed in ‘insane’ Nigeria attack

At least 43 people have been killed in what the Nigerian president has described as an “insane” attack in north-east Nigeria on Saturday. The attackers tied up agricultural labourers working in rice fields and slit their throats near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, reports say. This is one of the worst attacks in recent months in a region where the Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa insurgent groups are active. No-one has yet claimed responsibility. “I condemn the killing of our hard-working farmers by terrorists in Borno state. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace,” said President Muhammadu Buhari. President Buhari also described “the terrorist killings as insane”, according to his spokesman Garba Shehu. The farmers “were attacked because they had on Friday disarmed and arrested a Boko Haram gunman who had been tormenting them”, a member of the local parliament, Ahmed Satomi, told newspaper Premium Times. Correspondents say farmers have previously been attacked by militants of the Islamist group Boko Haram, who suspect them of passing on information to the military. Last month, Boko Haram fighters killed 22 farmers working on irrigation fields in two separate incidents. On Sunday, six soldiers were reportedly killed in a jihadist ambush near the town of Baga in Borno State, says the BBC’s Chris Ewokor, in Abuja.

Portland Rioters Cause Thousands Of Dollars In Damage On Thanksgiving Night

Rioters in Oregon’s largest city on Thanksgiving caused thousands of dollars in damage, authorities said. A group of people dressed in black clothing were witnessed smashing windows along Hawthorne Street in the early hours of Nov. 26, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Officers canvassed the area and found that damage had been inflicted upon at least 10 businesses in the area. Multiple Antifa logos were sprayed with paint onto the buildings. Riots and protests took place nearly every night in Portland for months this year. The situation has calmed down in recent weeks, but sporadic explosions of violence still occur. The vandalism came after the PNW Youth Liberation Front, a group linked to Antifa, called for “direct action” in Twitter posts that said, “[Expletive] Thanksgiving.” Direct action is a term that refers to targeting buildings that anarchists feel represent things they oppose. The Front called on taking direct action “to attack symbols and structures of colonialism and capitalism.” The group later shared a report from an Antifa website that praised the toppling of a memorial for the Mexican-American War at a cemetery in Portland on Nov. 25.

Thai protesters march to royal guard barracks in Bangkok

Thousands of protesters marched to a barracks belonging to Thailand’s royal guards in Bangkok on Sunday, demanding that King Maha Vajiralongkorn give up control of some army regiments, the latest show of defiance against the country’s powerful monarchy and the military. On Sunday evening, protesters marched to the 11th Infantry Regiment, one of two army units that the king brought under his direct command in 2019. In a statement, protesters accused the king of having “expanded his royal prerogative in every way possible including [through] the military” and referred to the prime minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former army general, as the king’s “royal puppet”. They have made three demands: reform of the monarchy, a new constitution, and the removal of Prayuth, who first came to power in the 2014 coup. Prayuth has refused to step down. The palace has not commented on the protests, though the king said that he loves demonstrators “all the same”. In a recent statement, the foreign ministry said protesters were able to exercise their rights to peaceful assembly last week “without any hindrance”. The statement added that protesters must exercise their rights “in accordance with the relevant laws”.

Back in 2009, when the Fed first launched QE, a majority of traders and strategists were convinced that the Fed would spark an inflationary inferno as a result of the hundreds of billions of dollars (back then, that was a big number) of liquidity injected into markets. And while one part of this forecast turned out to be true, with asset prices indeed hyperinflating in the subsequent decade, the flood of central bank reserves did little to boost benign broader economy inflation, i.e., wages. It’s also why a decade later, with central banks now injecting a berserk $300BN each month, the 10Y continues to trade well below 1% – the simple reason is that having failed to spark broader inflation, the market is convinced that nothing the Fed and its central bank peers do can change this default dynamic. But if consensus was dead wrong about the economic outcome of the first QE back in 2009, could consensus be just as wrong now, and with most expecting deflation no matter how big the QE, could central banks finally “succeed” in sparking runaway inflation?  The answer is yes and it will come in the form of digital currencies. But while all that sounds great in theory, the real question as always is how does it work in practice. The answer, as so often happens when it comes to financial experimentation, comes from China which is the most advanced nation in the development and rollout of digital currencies. WHO Urges Global Governments To “Manage” All Social Activity

Dr. Michael Ryan, Director of Global Alert and Response of the World Health Organization (WHO), told journalists at a press briefing on Monday that “pinch points,” otherwise known as places where people gather, must be “managed.” Ryan spoke about numerous types of public areas, such as airports, public transportation, and even places like ski resorts that governments must “manage” to prevent further spreading of COVID-19. He called on governments around the world to investigate “all forms of gatherings that lead to people congregating are moving en masse and how they are going to de-risk those processes.” Ryan said if governments don’t believe those processes cannot be de-risked, governments should “curtail, postpone, and or even manage” those processes. China also is now demanding governments across the globe to “manage” what the world’s population can “safely” undertake based on their “science.”

The push for children’s ‘sexual rights’ is coming

Human Rights Watch issued a submission to the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy, Prof. Joseph Cannataci, that states their concern with “the privacy rights of children and issues relating to their independence and autonomy.” The submission “focuses on the importance of privacy for children with respect to their sexual and reproductive health and rights, physical and emotional well-being in school, safety in the online space, and the protection of their information online.” This submission, if accepted, would assist children in completely bypassing parents which is a dangerous situation for any child to be in. Abortions, puberty blockers, the removal of parental guidance, and comprehensive sexuality education all have side effects. But the chief concern is that this calls for institutions to help children bypass their parents towards the legal implementation of children’s self-determinative rights, without guardian or parental oversight.

Police in the Muslim-majority archipelago of Indonesia were searching for suspected terrorists Saturday after the throats of three Christians were slit, another was beheaded and a Salvation Army post and Christians’ homes were burned down on the island of Sulawesi, according to reports. About 10 people from a “terrorist” group carried out the killing on Friday morning in a hilly, remote village near the region of Sigi in Central Sulawesi province, Reuters reported, based on what national police spokesman Awi Setiyono said in a television interview. The suspected terrorists also set fire to a church and burned down the homes of six churchgoers after they attacked the Lewonu Lembantongoa Service Post of the Salvation Army, the U.S.-based persecution watchdog International Christian Concern reported. The Salvation Army International confirmed the attack on Saturday, saying that their building along with six homes of members were burned.

Johns Hopkins retracts report finding COVID death count ‘not alarming’

‘We won’t force vaccine; but here’s what we will do’

A report of a senior Johns Hopkins lecturer’s analysis concluding that the coronavirus had no overall effect on the total number of deaths in the United States was retracted by the university on Thursday. Essentially, Genevieve Briand, a longtime professor of economics and statistics, argued in a recent webinar that the virus is deadly primarily to older people with multiple underlying conditions who already were near death, meaning the overall death count has not been affected. “These data analyses suggest that in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.” But an editor’s note posted Friday said an article about her presentation published by the student newsletter has been “used to support dangerous inaccuracies that minimize the impact of the pandemic.” The article, the Johns Hopkins University News-Letter said, was retracted “to stop the spread of misinformation” but made available as a PDF because it’s “our responsibility as journalists to provide a historical record.”
Meanwhile, disturbing statements coming out of Israel: Health Ministry Director Hezy Levy yesterday insisted to reporters that “we won’t force people to take a vaccine. Israeli law doesn’t allow for it,” speaking before the Special Knesset Coronavirus Committee chaired by MK Yifat Shasha-Biton, Sheba Medical Center Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Eyal Zimlichman listed measures that are being planned to “maneuver” the population into vaccinating as a way of regaining freedom of movement. The issue of how to “motivate” vaccine compliance has generated increasing interest, with commentators such as Mike Cernovich writing: “Government won’t force you to take vaccine. Amazon will. Airlines will. Banks will. You won’t be able to buy, sell, or trade without the vaccine.”

Meanwhile, a rare November tornado caused damage to Catania Airport in Sicily on Saturday, November 28. Severe storms have battered Sardinia for two days in a row, causing flooding and landslides in several areas that left three people dead in Bitti and two others missing. Explosive activity continues at Lewotolo after major eruption on November 29, thousands of people evacuated

Explosive activity continues at the Indonesian Lewotolo volcano on Monday, November 30, 2020, after a major eruption on Sunday sent ash up to 15.2 km (50 000 feet) a.s.l. The Aviation Color Code was raised to Red following the eruption and Alert Status raised to 3 of 4. Lewotolo is located on Lembata island of East Nusa Tenggara province. There were no reports of injuries or damage after a major eruption on Sunday but authorities confirmed nearly 2 800 people from 28 villages on the slopes of the volcano were evacuated and nearby Wunopitu airport temporarily closed after ashfall was reported in many areas on the island. The Disaster Mitigation Agency is urging villagers and tourists to stay 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) away from the crater and be aware of potential threats as the area near the volcano is likely to be inundated with pyroclastic flows, lava, and poisonous gases. Explosions accompanied by a burst of incandescent material above the peak were recorded at 03:28, 04:39, 04:59, 06:40, 07:37, and 08:33 WITA today, with an ash column height of 1 400 – 4 000 m (4 600 – 13 100 feet) above the crater. Fires were also observed around the crater.

Reported Israeli air strikes kill 8 pro-Iranian fighters in rural Damascus and Quneitra

The London-based Syrian opposition group reported on Wednesday that eight pro-Iranian foreign militiamen and Hizballah members were killed in two Israeli air strikes Tuesday overnight on Jabal al-Mani south of Damascus and Ruweihina village on the Syrian Golan border with Israel. The first targeted weapons and missile depots serving the Iranians and Hizballah; the second, a group called the Syrian resistance for the Liberation of the Golan at a post of the Syrian army’s 90^th Brigade. While there was no confirmation by either side of what was struck, according to military defectors who were quoted by Reuters, the target in Jabal Mane was a military base belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Israel: UN Security Council must demand Iranian ouster from Syria

The United Nations Security Council must demand Iran’s ouster from Syria and condemn attacks by its proxies against Israel from that neighboring territory, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan said. “Israel calls upon the Security Council to condemn these recurring dangerous acts, and demands a total rollback of Iran and its proxies from Syria and the removal of Iranian military infrastructure from Syrian territory,” Erdan wrote in a letter he sent to UNSC President and St. Vincent and Grenadines Ambassador Inga Rhonda King. Erdan wrote his letter after several improvised explosive devices (IED) were discovered in Israeli territory on its border with Syria in the Golan Height on November 17. Israel immediately retaliated by striking Iranian and Syrian military targets in Syria to thwart additional attacks, he wrote. The placement of those devices, Erdan wrote, was a “direct violation of the Disengagement Agreement (1974).”

Clashes between Kurdish fighters and Turkey-backed opposition gunmen in northern Syria left at least 11 fighters dead in some of the most intense fighting in weeks between the two sides, an opposition war monitor and a Kurdish spokesman said Tuesday. The Monday night clashes near the town of Ein Issa were triggered by an attack by Turkey-backed gunmen on SDF positions, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor. The Observatory said Turkey-backed fighters lost 11 gunmen in the battle and an unknown number of SDF fighters were also killed or wounded. An SDF spokesman who goes by the name of Mervan Qamishlo confirmed the clashes, saying that the group’s fighters were repelling a Turkey-backed attack. He did not comment on how many SDF gunmen were killed. A spokesman for the Turkey-backed fighters did not respond to requests for comment.

In threat to Iran, US sends heavy bombers to Middle East via Israel

The United States this week rapidly deployed several heavy bombers to the Middle East this week in an apparent threat to Iran, amid swirling speculation that US President Donald Trump plans to take military action against Tehran before President-elect Joe Biden enters office. US Central Command said the planes were sent into the region “to deter aggression and reassure US partners and allies.” In a highly irregular move, the B-52H Stratofortress planes were seen flying toward Israeli airspace on Saturday en route to the base where they will be stationed, likely in Qatar. The aircraft were spotted on civilian tracking software approaching Israel before they apparently turned off their transponders, rendering them invisible on those applications. The US has previously deployed B-52 bombers to the region during periods of heightened tensions. This occurred in early 2020 after the US killed top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike in Iraq. The strategic aircraft were also sent to the region in May 2019, when Iran allegedly attacked a number of US allies in the Persian Gulf and shot down an American spy drone that flew near its airspace.

Two explosions in central Afghanistan kill 14 people, wound 45 – officials

At least 14 people have been killed and dozens more injured after twin blasts in the central Afghan province of Bamiyan on Tuesday afternoon, provincial officials said. The explosives were hidden at the side of a road in a main bazaar in Bamiyan city and claimed the lives of 12 civilians and two traffic policemen, while wounding 45 other people, Reuters quoted Zabardast Safai, the police chief of the province, as saying. The people who sustained injuries in the attack were mostly in a nearby restaurant and shops at the time of the blasts, according to Safai. A spokesperson at the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs, Tariq Arian, confirmed the bombing, saying that explosives had been detonated in front of the Insaf Market in the bazaar area in Bamiyan, “killing a traffic officer along with 13 civilians.”

The leader of Ethiopia’s dissident Tigray region has said his people are “ready to die” defending their homeland, rejecting the prime minister’s Sunday night ultimatum that they surrender within 72 hours. Brig Gen Tesfaye Ayalew was quoted by the state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate as saying federal troops were “marching into Mekelle”, having captured key towns to the north and south. The army has threatened a “no mercy” tank assault on the TPLF leadership in Mekelle, warning civilians to leave while they can. The threat has prompted widespread concern, with human rights campaigners saying it could breach international legal codes.

Major damage reported after suspected tornado hits Arlington, Texas

A late-evening tornado reportedly touched down in Arlington, Dallas-Forth Worth Metropolitan Area on November 24, 2020, leaving a trail of damage to buildings and vehicles. Just before 21:00 LT on November 24, a severe storm capable of producing a tornado was located near Grand Prairie, moving east at 72 km/h (45 miles per hour), according to LXAS news. The tornado warning was lifted just after 21:20 LT (03:20 UTC, November 25). Shortly after, the Arlington Police Department said that it’s assisting the Arlington Fire Department with damage across the city. “This also includes various roof collapses on some structures and damages to buildings. UAE, Bahrain reject Israeli UN resolution on entrepreneurship, despite new peace

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday praised the world body for overwhelmingly approving an Israeli-sponsored resolution to support entrepreneurship but criticized Arab countries who voted against it, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The resolution passed with a definitive 144-26 majority with nine abstentions, but the Arab countries voted as a block against the resolution, apparently because it was sponsored by Israel. “Unfortunately, there are some in this body, who despite recognizing the value of innovation, decided to vote against it,” Erdan said. “Their ‘no’ vote was driven not by reason or logic, but by anti-Semitism and intolerance. These member states should be ashamed. Instead of advancing a more sustainable future, they cling to racism and bigotry. We should all feel outraged.” Opponents included the UAE and Bahrain. Egypt and Jordan, the other two Arab states that have full diplomatic relations with Israel, also voted against the resolution. Meanwhile, without officially acknowledging the move, the Palestinian Authority (PA) is returning its ambassadors to the UAE and Bahrain, a Palestinian source told Reuters Wednesday. The envoys were originally recalled after PA President Mahmoud Abbas said that the two countries had “betrayed” the Palestinian cause by announcing normalization with Israel in August and September, respectively.

IDF strikes Hamas infrastructure in retaliation for rocket fire

The Israeli military struck Hamas military infrastructure early on Sunday morning in response to rocket fire launched towards the southern city of Ashkelon, the second time in two weeks. The strikes, carried out by Israeli Air Force jets and attack helicopters targeted Hamas military sites including “two rocket manufacturing sites, underground infrastructure and a training facility for the Hamas terror group’s naval force,” the IDF Spokespersons Unit said in a statement.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief Yossi Cohen met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Neom, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, Israeli sources confirmed. The Israeli and Saudi sides discussed Iran and normalization, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a Saudi source.  Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan denied the meeting took place on Twitter, saying only Saudi and American officials were present. Yet Education Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the meeting, calling it an “amazing achievement” and “a matter of great importance” in an interview with Army Radio. On Sunday, however, Prince Faisal told Reuters that normalization with Israel would only come after “a permanent and comprehensive peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis including the establishment of a Palestinian state on 1967 borders.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also met with Netanyahu and MBS, as the crown prince is known, in Neom, a new city in northern Saudi Arabia.

Yemen rebels claim attack on Saudi oil facility in Jiddah

Yemen’s Houthi rebels said they struck a Saudi oil facility in the port city of Jiddah on Monday with a new cruise missile, just hours after the kingdom finished hosting its virtual Group of 20 leaders summit. The kingdom did not immediately acknowledge any attack as videos on social media suggested a fire struck a Saudi Arabian Oil Co. facility in Jiddah before dawn. A later satellite photo also suggested a fire occurred. Brig. Gen. Yehia Sarie, a Houthi military spokesman, tweeted that the rebels fired a new Quds-2 cruise missile at the facility. He posted a satellite image online that matched Aramco’s North Jiddah Bulk Plant, where oil products are stored in tanks. The claimed attack comes just after a visit by outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the kingdom to see Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman , a meeting that reportedly included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The kingdom also just hosted the annual G-20 summit, which concluded Sunday.

Deadly new Daesh attack north of Baghdad

Iraq’s Salahaddin province declared three days of mourning from Sunday over a deadly attack blamed on the Daesh group, as some criticized the state for failing to fight back militants. Late Saturday, a roadside bomb hit a civilian car on an open road about 200 kilometers north of Baghdad, police and a local official said.
When security forces arrived to the scene, militants opened fire on them. The attack killed at least six Iraqi security personal and four civilians, including one who died of his wounds overnight, according to local medics. Two weeks ago, 11 people were killed in an Daesh attack on a lookout post at Al-Radwaniyah on Baghdad’s outskirts, areas which are predominantly Sunni Muslim.

Kabul attack: Several killed as rockets hit residential areas

A barrage of rockets has hit residential areas of Kabul, killing at least eight people and wounding more than 30, Afghan officials say. More than a dozen rockets were fired from a pickup truck inside the city, the interior ministry said. The regional Islamic State group said it was behind it. The attack happened hours before a meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Taliban negotiators in an effort to resume peace talks. The rockets hit areas of central and north Kabul – including near the heavily fortified area that houses embassies and international companies – just before 09:00 (04:30 GMT) on Saturday.

Ethiopian military warns Mekelle civilians ahead of assault on city

Ethiopian military officials have warned civilians in Mekelle, the capital of the unsettled Tigray region, to “free themselves” from rebel leaders or be offered “no mercy” in a coming assault on the city. The Ethiopian military said tanks would be deployed to encircle Mekelle, the highland capital of the northern Tigray region, and that it may also use artillery on the city, state media reported on Sunday. Tsegaye said the Ethiopian military had so far avoided any targets that might risk civilian casualties but said that in the case of Mekelle “it might be different”. Officials in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, have been clear that the “law enforcement operation” will continue until the TPLF is ousted and federal authority reasserted over the region. On Saturday, Ethiopian government rebuffed an African diplomatic push to mediate. Though heavily armed regular troops have steadily advanced towards Mekelle, the paramilitaries and militia deployed in their wake are still struggling to clear and secure territory, the assessment says, raising the prospect of a lengthy guerrilla war.

Polisario Front strikes Moroccan military positions behind border wall

The Polisario Front said that it continued to target the sites of the Moroccan forces on Saturday behind the separation wall in the Sahara region. According to the Front’s Sahara News Agency, the Front announced in a communiqué “the implementation of violent attacks that have turned significant parts of the Moroccan wall of shame into hell by the constant bombing of the Lions of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army.” The statement continued, “Yesterday, Friday, November 20, units of our victorious army bombed the enemy’s defensive positions in the Amkala sector.” They added that on Saturday, their forces continued to the Moroccan troops along the separation wall, causing material damage and casualties there. In the meantime, the official spokesperson for the SADR government, Minister of Information Hamada Salma El-Daf, confirmed that a just and final peace depends on the Moroccan withdrawal from the territory of the SADR and Morocco’s respect for its internationally recognized borders.

One Azerbaijani Serviceman Dead, One Russian Peacekeeper Injured Due to Mine Explosion in Karabakh

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed in the disputed region after Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a joint statement to mutually cease the hostilities that had been taking place in Karabakh since the end of September 2020. A mine explosion in Nagorno-Karabakh has left one Azerbaijani soldier dead, as well as one Russian peacekeeper and four members of the local emergency services injured, Russia’s Defence Ministry has stated. “The explosion took place in the vicinity of Madagiz village […] The Russian serviceman has been transported to a hospital in Baku, where he is currently receiving medical attention. His wounds are not life threatening”, the ministry said. The dead and the injured were part of a joint team that was tasked with finding and recovering the bodies of servicemen killed in action during the hostilities, which erupted in the region in September.

More than 200 detained in Belarus protests – rights group

Belarus police detained more than 200 people in Minsk on Sunday during the latest in months of anti-government protests since a disputed presidential election in August, human rights activists said. Thousands took to the streets of the Belarusian capital, and police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd, several Belarus media outlets reported. The Vesna-96 rights group said 205 people had been detained so far. The Interior Ministry later confirmed that there had been detentions, saying those being held had been “disturbing public order and resisting police officers,” but it did not give any numbers.

Guatemala: Congress on fire after protesters storm building

Hundreds of anti-government protesters in Guatemala have vandalised and set fire to parts of the Congress building, before being dispersed by riot police. The building in Guatemala City was empty at the time of Saturday’s attack, which lasted for about 10 minutes. The fire services put the fire out, but several people were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation. The protesters are opposed to a budget approved by Congress of the Central American country on Wednesday night. The opposition says the budget prioritises big infrastructure projects to be handled by companies with government connections and overlooks the social and economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another key complaints is that the budget was passed by parliament while the rest of the country was distracted by the after-effects of two damaging storms, Eta and Iota. The protesters are now pressing for President Alejandro Giammattei to resign.

China vows a ‘necessary’ response to US admiral’s visit to Taiwan

China’s foreign ministry announced on Monday that it will bring a “necessary” response to bear after a senior US Navy admiral made an unannounced visit to Taiwan over the weekend. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters that China “resolutely opposes” any diplomatic or military relations between American and Taiwanese officials, calling on the United States to fully recognize the sensitivity of the China-Taiwan issue. Zhao warned that, depending on how the situation developed, his government would “make a legitimate and necessary response,” without explaining what specific action would be taken. Rear Admiral Michael Studeman, a two-star Navy admiral who oversees US military intelligence in the Asia-Pacific region, is believed to be the officer that made the trip, according to people familiar with the situation. While the Pentagon refused to comment, Taiwan’s foreign ministry confirmed that a US official had arrived on Sunday.

Speaking during the G20 summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping promoted the idea of introducing globally-recognized health QR codes, saying it would help to restore coronavirus-hit international trade and travel. “While containing the virus, we need to restore the secure and smooth operation of global industrial and supply chains,” China’s leader told the virtual G20 summit late on Saturday, while advocating the need to “reduce tariffs and barriers” and “liberalize” the trade of crucial medical supplies. He also called for the creation of mechanisms that would simplify the “orderly flow” of people in the coronavirus-battered world. They could come in the form of QR codes containing people’s health information, Xi said. QR codes of this type are already in active use in China, where internal travel has become largely dependent on them and the corresponding “health apps.” Instruments to track people’s movement, including mobile applications and QR codes, have been implemented amid the coronavirus pandemic by other nations as well, though no global system has emerged yet.

Destructive EF-3 tornado and severe hailstorm leave 6 people dead in South Africa

At least 6 fatalities have been confirmed while dozens of properties have been damaged or destroyed after severe storms — including hail reportedly bigger than a golf ball, an EF-3 tornado, lightning, and strong winds — lashed eastern provinces of South Africa on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 17 and 18, 2020. In KwaZulu-Natal, two people were reported dead while one person remains missing after a major hailstorm accompanied by lightning hit the province. Anyone who has studied the bible knows Jesus warned that there would be a global reset in the last days. All you have to do is read Revelation chapter 13: 16-18.  I gave you these scriptures below just in case you have never read them.  While Jesus did not tell us exactly what would bring about this global reset we in this last generation can see for ourselves how the road to the reset is being forged. One major component that is helping bring about the reset is the Covid19 disease. I don’t need to spend a lot of time trying to show you how Covid is killing the world’s economy because most of you in one way or another are living through some of the worse financial hardships you have ever gone through as governments have locked down millions of businesses around the world since January 2020 and, in November as Covid continues to spread there has now been a second business lock down around the world.  Millions of people around the world are losing their jobs and nations around the world a intrenched in trillions of dollars in debt and it it getting worse.  The Covid19 disease has not only  helped bring on a global reset but, has in many places around the world also brought out massive famines as people without funds are going hungry.  Many people may have been under the impression that the United Sates would be the nation to dodge the down fall in the economy and hungry however, as you can now see even America has fallen to  Covid and it’s after effects.  The prophecy Jesus warned us about is coming faster than most people would like but it is coming and nothing is going to stop it from happening!  Now is the time to believe what Jesus has said and get yourself ready to meet Christ when He calls or end up like the people living during Noah’s generation who refused to listen to the Lord’s warning about the coming worldwide flood.

Rising to respond to famines of “Biblical proportions”

In these countries, we fear that lives may be saved from COVID-19 only to be lost to hunger.  Israel strikes Iranian, Syrian targets in response to exposed IEDs

Israel struck Iranian and Syrian targets in Syria early Wednesday morning in response to explosive devices found on the border the previous day. “IDF warplanes attacked military targets belonging to the Iranian Quds Force and the Syrian army tonight in Syria. The attack damaged warehouses, command posts and military complexes, and batteries of surface-to-air missiles,” the IDF said in a statement. The strikes hit eight targets from the Golan Heights to Damascus including an Iranian military complex near Damascus International Airport, a secret military barracks which acts as a housing complex for senior Iranian officials as well as visiting delegations, a command post for Division 7 of the Syrian army which cooperates with the Quds force and mobile surface-to-air missile trucks which fired toward Israeli jets during the strikes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the strikes were part of a policy that he has been “pursuing for years” and that Israel would not allow for Iran to entrench itself in Syria nor would it allow for any attempted attack from Syrian territory.

Pompeo in Jerusalem as Israel, Bahrain announce embassies

Israel and Bahrain announced Wednesday that the countries will open embassies in each other’s countries. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani were joined by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for trilateral talks on how to exploit the new peace treaties Israel signed recently with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. “Three peace agreements in six weeks – I don’t think it gets better than that,” Netanyahu said, citing the recent deals to establish diplomatic relations with the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan. Pompeo arrived in Israel earlier in the day on a seven-country, 11-day tour that began Friday and takes him to talks in France, Turkey, Georgia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Palestinians restore ties with Israel

The Palestinian Authority on Tuesday said it has decided to renew its relations with Israel, including security coordination, after receiving assurances that Israel would abide by the signed agreements with the Palestinians. Senior Israeli officials confirmed that security coordination with the PA was being restored. The decision is likely to hinder efforts to end the dispute between the ruling Palestinian Fatah faction and Hamas, which has long opposed security coordination between the PA and Israel, dubbing it an act of treason. The decision was taken after the Palestinians received “assurances from several European Union officials that Israel won’t take any unilateral move in the near future” and remains committed to all the signed agreements, the official said. The official was referring to Israel’s since-shelved plan to apply sovereignty to portions of the West Bank. According to the official, the Palestinians also have agreed to receive the tax revenues that Israel collects on their behalf.

Jordan, Bahrain and UAE discuss peace for Palestinians in Abu Dhabi summit

Leaders from Jordan, Bahrain and the UAE discussed on Wednesday the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace for the Palestinians. The statement came during a trilateral summit between Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain King Hamad Al-Khalifa, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed. The meeting was held in the UAE capital on Wednesday.  The leaders discussed the “brotherly and strategic ties between their countries,” Jordan’s state news agency reported. They agreed on the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace for the Palestinians based on the two-state solution with Israel “that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and its capital East Jerusalem.” Bahrain and the UAE recently signed agreements to open relations with Israel. Jordan, along with Egypt, are the only other Arab countries to have relations with Israel.

The two discussed a variety of topics, including inking military and intelligence cooperation treaties. Akar later announced that the treaties’ drafts were under review, receiving the final touches, and that they would be ready within a few days, upon which the two nations will agree on the location wherein to sign them. On a side note, last week, an oil pipeline in North Lebanon, extending from Iraq, mysteriously caught fire and exploded. The Iraqi minister hoped that a new Lebanese government would be formed soon and that the treaties between the two nations would be finalized.

Prominent Pakistani journalist Mubasher Lucman believes that Saudi Arabia is one of the countries pressuring Islamabad into recognizing Israel, he said in an interview with i24 News. Lucman’s statement follows Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement that Islamabad has been placed “under pressure” by the United States, and other unnamed countries, to recognize Israel. “I have no doubt that in my analysis that the other country he is talking about is Saudi Arabia, and no one else,” Lucman told the i24 presenter. “There are only four countries that could have said this: One is the United States, second is Israel, third is India and fourth is Saudi Arabia. There is no fifth country that has that kind of influence over [Pakistan].” Pakistan is not “on talking terms with Israel – officially at least. And [Pakistan] does not get along with Indians, so it’s very simple,” he added.

Senior Syrian General, Eleven Soldiers Killed in New ISIS Ambush in Deir Ezzor

Early on November 17, ISIS terrorists ambushed a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unit in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor. The unit was moving in the area of Faydat Ibn Muyni’a when it fell into the terrorists’ ambush. Heavy clashes broke out in the area. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 12 Syrian service members were killed in the clashes. More than 17 others were injured. Major General Bashir Salim Ismail, commander of the SAA’s 137^th Regiments, was among the personnel killed in ISIS ambush. The SAA and pro-government forces are now deploying reinforcements near Faydat Ibn Muyni’a as well as in other parts of western Deir Ezzor. ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, is yet to release any details on the well-planned ambush. This was one of the terrorist group’s most successful attacks against Syrian troops this year.

Rockets Target US Embassy In Baghdad Just As Trump Ordered Troop Draw Down

Iraqi military says four rockets hit Baghdad’s Green Zone

Coming less than within an hour of President Trump announcing his troop draw down order in Iraq and Afghanistan Tuesday afternoon, a hail of rockets fell near the US embassy in Baghdad. Local and regional reports say at least five rockets were fired on the fortified Green Zone in Iraq’s capital and that four struck near the American compound. The US embassy’s C-RAM system, or “Counter rocket, artillery, and mortar” defense weapon, was activated in response to the inbound rocket fire. The timing seems clearly intentional, given international headlines at that very moment circulated the US announced plans to reduce its troop levels in Iraq. There are reports from correspondents on the ground saying at least one young Iraqi civilian was killed and five other Iraqis injured as a result of the attack.

Iran has begun feeding uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas feedstock into the advanced IR-2m uranium-enriching centrifuges installed at its underground plant in Natanz nuclear facility, according to a UN nuclear watchdog report obtained by Reuters on Wednesday. The move is the latest nuclear standoff escalation by Iran with the US, Israel and their allies. “On 14 November 2020, the Agency verified that Iran began feeding UF6 into the recently installed cascade of 174 IR-2m centrifuges at the Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) in Natanz,” the International Atomic Energy Agency report to member states said dated Tuesday. Until Iran’s new breach on Wednesday, it was unclear whether Tehran had taken the incoming Biden administration into account with its moves at Natanz.

Ethiopia said its troops were marching on the capital of the Tigray region on Tuesday after a deadline for rebel forces to surrender passed in a two-week conflict shaking the Horn of Africa and alarming the world. “The final critical act of law enforcement will be done in the coming days,” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said. Later on Tuesday, Abiy’s special task force on the Tigray conflict accused rebel forces of destroying bridges connecting the regional capital Mekelle with the rest of the country in attempts to hold back federal government forces. Abiy’s air force struck unspecified TPLF targets outside Mekelle on Monday. Earlier on Tuesday, his task force said federal forces had “liberated” the Raya, Chercher, Gugufto and Mehoni localities on the eastern front, and Shire on the conflict’s western front. Federal forces had also destroyed TPLF military bases in both areas and were now heading towards Mekelle, the statement said. “The force of the junta is now retreating, and the army is marching to bring the TPLF junta to justice.” Tigray’s leaders have accused federal forces of knocking out a dam and a sugar factory as well as “mercilessly” attacking people in the region of more than 5 million. The government denies targeting civilians. Both sides in Ethiopia’s raging internal conflict claimed military successes on Wednesday, creating a muddied picture of fighting even as the government promised it would soon be over.

Polisario forces launch new attacks against Moroccan army bases

The news agency of the Polisario front said on Tuesday evening that the People’s Liberation Army’s strikes against Moroccan army bases continued for the fifth consecutive day. The People’s Liberation Army said in a statement that it had stepped up its hostilities “after the Moroccan forces violated the ceasefire concluded” between the Polisario Front on one side and the Kingdom of Morocco on the other hand under the supervision of the United Nations. They  said that the army had launched attacks since Tuesday morning, describing them as “successful” on bases belonging to the Moroccan army, referring to causing human and material damage. The People’s Liberation Army continued, saying that it had bombed Warning Point 51 of the 29th Corps from the Amqala sector at 06:40 A.M., in addition to the bombing of a focus on Base 19 from Al Mahbas sector from 09:40 to 10:07. On Friday, Morocco announced that it had launched a military operation in the buffer zone in Guerguerat in Western Sahara, while the Polisario Front responded, saying that the operation ended the cease-fire between the two sides in place for 30 years, and that “the war began.”

Putin defends Armenia-Azerbaijan ceasefire amid heavy criticism

President Vladimir Putin has defended a Russian-brokered ceasefire in the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, saying that it would be “suicidal” for Yerevan to back out despite heavy criticisms of the truce. There have been protests in Armenia and calls for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign over the week-old agreement, which allowed Azerbaijan to consolidate major territorial gains after several weeks of bitter fighting. Asked about the potential of a new government reneging on the deal, Mr Putin reportedly told Russian state television on Tuesday, “That would be a huge mistake.” Mr Putin defended the deal, saying: “The fact that hostilities have stopped and there is an agreement to unblock transport, restore economic ties, it’s extremely important.” He said the deal laid the basis for “long-term normalisation” for the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region but admitted it had not solved the “problem” of its final status. “What happens next should be decided in the future, or by future leaders, future participants in this process.” Under the ceasefire, Russia is sending about 2,000 peacekeeping troops on a five-year mandate to keep the peace. Putin said Turkey, which supports Baku, will be associated with the peace-keeping process through a joint control centre with Russia that will use drones, but that Turkish troops will not enter Nagorno-Karabakh.

  Merkel must go, democracy must stay!’ Anti-lockdown protesters detained, doused with water cannon at central Berlin rally

Protesters have taken to the streets in downtown Berlin to denounce a bill that would enshrine lockdown measures into German law. Lawmakers are expected to pass a bill on Wednesday that would write a long list of concrete quarantine measures, such as mask-wearing and social distancing rules, into the country’s existing law on protection from infections. The government argues that the change is necessary if there is to be a robust response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Critics say the bill was put forward in a rushed manner and would give the government too much power in regulating the lives of ordinary people. The police detained several people and deployed water cannons when the crowd refused to leave. Officers complained that some demonstrators were violating Covid-19 restrictions by not wearing masks, and warned that “the use of water cannon cannot be ruled out” if they had to disperse the crowd. Water cannons were later deployed when protesters refused to leave. Officials had previously rejected a dozen applications to rally outside the parliament building. In a letter to MPs obtained by the media, the police warned about possible “attacks” on the Bundestag. There were attempts to break into the building during a similar demonstration in August.

French police unleash tear gas & water cannons at protests against new ‘Comprehensive Security Law’

There were violent clashes across France as thousands took to the streets in protest against a controversial proposed all-encompassing “global security law” which would criminalize filming police activity in certain circumstances. The proposed legislation, currently being debated by the French parliament, seeks to criminalize photographing or filming the police with intent to cause harm. It would also reportedly give more autonomy to local police, arm more officers nationwide and expand the use of surveillance drones in high-crime areas. Penalties of up to one year in prison and a €45,000 fine are being considered alongside the new proposed legislation, backed by President Emmanuel Macron’s ruling La République En Marche party. The law’s co-author Jean-Michel Fauvergue, a former chief of France’s elite RAID police unit, dismissed claims the law would provide immunity for police abuse, saying “in no way does this stop journalists from working.” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin claimed the proposed legislation is necessary to “protect those who protect us,” but rights groups and journalists’ unions say the bill is ripe for abuse and dangerously open to errant interpretation. Thousands of citizens attended protests in numerous cities across the country, including some 400 people in Rennes; an estimated 700 protesters in Lyon and 1,300 people in Toulouse; Up to 800 people, including a local councillor who lost a hand during a yellow vest protest in 2018, attended a march in Bordeaux and an 800-strong protest was held in Grenoble.

Peru’s new president sworn in, calls for calm after protests

Peruvian lawmaker Francisco Sagasti was sworn in as interim president on Tuesday, voted for by Congress in an effort to return stability to a country that has seen deadly protests and the departure of two presidents over the last week. The Andean nation has been shaken since the abrupt ouster in an impeachment trial of popular leader Martin Vizcarra on November 9. The removal of Vizcarra, whose anti-graft agenda had caused tensions with Congress, triggered often violent protests in which two young people died. Vizcarra’s successor, Manuel Merino, resigned on Sunday after just five days in power. “It is absolutely necessary to remain calm, but do not confuse this with passivity, conformity or resignation,” Sagasti said in an address to Congress after his swearing-in. He also paid homage to two young men who died during protests. “We can’t bring them back to life,” he said. “But we can stop this from happening again.”

Belarus opposition leader calls for sanctions on Lukashenko supporters

Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on European leaders to impose targeted economic sanctions on supporters of President Alexander Lukashenko after police stepped up violence against protesters. Police in Minsk used tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse tens of thousands of demonstrators on Sunday, on the fourteenth straight weekend of protests since a disputed presidential election on Aug. 9 that Lukashenko says he won. Germany and the European Union are looking into ways to increase pressure on the Belarusian leadership after the Sunday crackdown, and the death last week of a 31-year-old anti-government protester after what demonstrators said was a severe beating by security forces. Poland and Lithuania are pushing for further EU sanctions on Belarus, including companies and more individuals, Lithuanian president Gitanas Nauseda said on Tuesday after meeting Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Vilnius.

Wall Street Admits That “Civil Unrest” Could Crash Markets

Coronavirus itself remains the biggest “tail risk” to the global economy for the 8th consecutive month, followed by the “tech bubble.” However, what’s really raising eyebrows is the factor that BofA considers to be the third most likely threat to financial stability and growth, namely “civil unrest.” Wall Street really starting to worry about what we first said back in 2010 – much to Time Magazine’s mockery – that the Fed’s disastrous policies would eventually push US society to armed conflict and/or to civil war. While it may be easy to dismiss such fears as hyperbolic, consider what otherwise level-headed Bloomberg macro commentator (and former Lehman trader) Mark Cudmore wrote overnight in his latest lament that markets are so broken, that in the end it will all “end in tears”, either in the form of collapse of fiat currency or through “political revolution”, read armed conflict.” “Which brings us back to square one. Because in a world where a handful of traders are the most bullish they have been in 20 years while the living standards of tens of millions of Americans are absolutely dismal with the economy on the verge of yet another depression-causing shutdown, the flashbacks to the days just before the French Revolution are all too real.”

Over 88K sex abuse claims filed against Boy Scouts of America

Sex abuse claims against the Boy Scouts of America have now surpassed 88,000, according to lawyers who represent victims who’ve filed claims against the organization. Christopher Hurley, the managing partner with a law firm representing 4,000 survivors of childhood sexual abuse who say they were victimized while participating in the Boy Scouts, said in a statement to The Christian Post that there are over 88,500 victims that have come forward as of Monday, the deadline the bankruptcy court set for such claims. Other lawyers told The New York Times that over 82,000 abuse claims were made against the group as of late Sunday and that the number of sexual abuse cases filed against BSA far exceeds the number of cases linked to abuse claims in the Roman Catholic Church. “I knew there were a lot of cases,” said Paul Mones, an attorney who has been working on BSA cases for approximately 20 years. “I never contemplated it would be a number close to this,” noting that with the prevalence of the abuse the number may represent a mere fraction of victims. The accusers range in age from 8 to 93.
