   IDF strikes Gaza after 6 rockets fired towards southern Israel

IDF forces struck targets in the Gaza Strip belonging to the Hamas terrorist group early Friday morning in response to six rockets that were fired from Gaza towards southern Israel through the night. Sirens sounded on Friday morning in the towns of Nahal Oz and Alumim. Underground infrastructure and military positions belonging to Hamas were targeted in the strikes by tanks and IAF aircraft, according to the IDF Spokespersons Unit. A number of incendiary and explosive balloon landed in southern Israel on Thursday, sparking at least 26 fires throughout the area. Terrorists in the Gaza Strip have launched incendiary and explosive balloons towards southern Israel on a daily basis in recent weeks, sparking fires that have burned large swaths of land. A number of rockets have been fired towards the Gaza envelope as well.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza threatens ‘explosion’ if blockade continues

Israel’s decision to close the crossings to and from the Gaza Strip because of the recent escalation spike in arson balloon attacks and rocket fire from Gaza drew harsh words from terrorist organizations on Friday morning, after a series of IDF airstrikes hit a number of Hamas targets, including a weapons workshop. The military arm of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad issued a statement stressing that “a continued delay in implementing the conditions having to do with lifting the ‘siege’ will lead to an explosion,” and that Israel “would bear the responsibility.” According to the Hamas representative, Israel was being “dismissive” of people’s lives, given the spread of coronavirus in the Gaza Strip. “The continued blockade and the worsening electricity crisis, and the stop of goods and fuel and supplies to Gaza are a crime against humanity that we cannot allow to continue or remain silent in the face of,” Barhoum said.

  U.N. To Renew Lebanon Peacekeeping Mandate, Reduce Troops

The U.N. Security Council will extend the mandate for a peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon for another year later on Friday, but will reduce the number of troops amid U.S. and Israeli criticism over the mission’s efficiency, diplomats said. The United States and Israel have argued that the force needs to be smaller but with more powers and more access to areas controlled by Hezbollah. They have pointed to recent incidents on the border in areas monitored by UNIFIL as examples of why the force should be bolstered. Israel struck Hezbollah targets on Wednesday after it said it had come under attack. The renewal of the U.N. mission comes as Lebanon grapples with a financial crisis, political deadlock and the aftermath of a blast that killed 180 people. France, overseeing the resolution’s progress at the United Nations, circulated a final compromise draft on Thursday, which will be put to a vote on Friday afternoon. The United States was satisfied because it called for a detailed plan to improve the efficiency of the mission and report back to the council within 60 days, the diplomat said.

An organizer of the ongoing rioting in Portland admitted that the goal of the anarchists who are besieging America is the “abolition of the United States as we know it.” Charles “Sam” Faddis, a former CIA operative with 30 years of experience in intelligence operations, noted: “We are watching an insurrection in progress, one which uses incidences of the police use of force as pretexts, but which has as its goal the destruction of the existing social, economic and political order in the United States.” As their power grows, Black Lives Matter, Antifa and other anarchists “will expand the scope of their challenge to the authority of the existing governmental structure,” Faddis wrote. Then, phase three begins, as the level of violence expands. “We will see a shift from vandalism, burning, and beatings to the use of Molotov cocktails, firearms and car bombs,” Faddis wrote. If that happens, then “we are well past the point where this movement could have been snuffed out easily, the Maoists will begin to challenge the federal government directly. In control – by this point of urban centers, National Guard armories, and fielding their own police forces – the revolutionaries will move to threaten the very existence of the republic,” Faddis wrote.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he has formed a police reserve force to intervene in Belarus if necessary, but that point has not yet been reached. Speaking on Russian state TV, he said Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko “asked me to set up a certain police reserve” and “I have done so”. “We also agreed that it won’t be used until the situation gets out of control,” he told Rossiya 1TV. Mr Lukashenko’s disputed 9 August re-election triggered huge protests. President Putin is upping the ante on Belarus, with a direct confirmation of what Alexander Lukashenko claimed some time ago: that Russia will step in to help him, with force, if things go bad. Just what force, and how bad, Mr Putin hasn’t fully defined. By “law enforcement officers”, he doesn’t mean ordinary street police, though. The term is far broader, including riot police, the National Guard (Rosgvardia) and even the FSB. So the potential for some kind of Russian intervention now hangs as an open threat both to opposition leaders and protesters – and to the West.

Beijing has cautioned against further US naval operations in the South China Sea, claiming that recent activities by the American side create conditions for an unintentional military confrontation.A spokesman for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) said on Friday that a US warship entered Chinese territorial waters without permission. “We urge the US to stop such provocative behavior and restrict its maritime actions to avoid possible military accidents,” Senior Colonel Li Huamin said, adding that PLA naval and aerial forces monitored the vessel as it traveled through the South China Sea. The US Navy said that the USS Martin carried out a “routine” operation in the region. Washington has cited the so-called “freedom of navigation” principle to defend its regular activity in the sea.

In a recent webinar, 2007 Nobel Laureate for economics, Harvard Professor Eric Maskin outlined why he sees central bank digital currencies (CBDC) as likely to displace cryptocurrencies. Maskin believes central banks’ role in managing monetary policy is critical and that their actions in 2008 prevented a repeat of the 1930s depression. And the primary function of commercial banks is to make loans. Maskin stated that if new unregulated lending organizations replace banks, leverage without regulation is dangerous. Maskin believes that digital currency will replace cash completely. “Twenty years from now, all money will be electronic,” he said. “It’s very hard for me to see how old fashioned cash is going to persist for that much longer. “

In unsealed video testimony released Monday, Planned Parenthood officers admit under oath that some of their abortion doctors have changed abortions to harvest more usable fetal organs and tissues. CMP’s newly released video also shows testimony from Dr. Mary Gatter, former medical director for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, admitting that after internal debate in the organization, she “evolved” in her thinking to believe that changing abortion “techniques” in order to harvest higher quality fetal tissue was acceptable. During the trial of CMP’s David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt last October, Gatter had to admit under oath that her “wanting a Lamborghini” comment in the released undercover video in 2015 was directly related to compensation for babies’ body parts. In a released statement, CMP founder and project leader Daleiden said it’s time for federal authorities to investigate. Earlier this month, 28 US Senators wrote to Attorney General Bill Barr demanding an update on action the Department of Justice has taken to enforce the laws against trafficking in human fetuses and other violations.

Report uncovers dramatic spike in children abusing parents during COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus lockdowns around the world have sparked fears that many people may be living in quarantine with violent partners or spouses. A new study reveals a different disturbing pattern growing in isolation: young children abusing their parents. Researchers from the universities of Oxford and Manchester find this “hidden” problem is intensifying during the pandemic, with the number of violent episodes skyrocketing by 70 percent. Researchers say social workers are reporting a 69-percent uptick in referrals for families suffering child or adolescent-to-parent violence (C/APV).  Calif. church fined $10,000 for singing, meeting inside

The pastor of a California church fined $10,000 for holding indoor worship services despite adhering to social distancing guidelines has begged Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow churches to reopen, warning that ignoring the spiritual health of the community will result in “chaos.” Last Friday, North Valley Baptist Church in Santa Clara was fined $5,000 for holding a morning service and $5,000 for the evening service in violation of orders from Gov. Newsom, who has mandated that churches in some counties refrain from indoor services amid the pandemic. The church was also served a written citation for singing in each worship service although social distancing was practiced in the auditorium that seats 3,000 people, according to a statement sent to The Christian Post.

   Thousands of Swedes receive false-positive COVID-19 results

Approximately 3,700 Swedes received false-positive COVID-19 tests due to a faulty testing kit from China, according to the Reuters, citing a Tuesday statement by Sweden’s Public Health Agency – which said that the kit was unable to distinguish between a very low level of the virus and a negative result. “The supplier must adjust the performance that is required for this test to be used,” said the agency’s head microbiologist, Karin Tegmark Wiselll, who added that the test kit has been widely exported to other countries. BGI Genomics, two of whose subsidiaries are on a U.S. economic blacklist of companies implicated in human rights violations regarding China’s treatment of Uighurs, could not immediately be reached for comment. It received emergency use authorization from U.S. authorities for its coronavirus testing kits in March and got an Emergency Use Listing from the World Health Organization in May.

 One of the last day signs spoken to us by Jesus is found in Matthew 24:12  where Christ says the following: “And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” 

The Greek word anomia is usually translated as “lawless” or “iniquity.” It carries with it the idea of deliberately disobeying a specific standard. In the context of this passage—God’s standard. Often the word “lawless” is used in apposition to “righteousness” or “good deeds” (Matthew 23:28; Romans 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:14; Titus 2:14; Hebrews 1:9).  Arno C. Gaebelein was a passionate evangelist, author, journalist, and Bible expositor. He proclaimed the prophetic truths of the Bible and daily lived with the hope of them being fulfilled. He would be blown away by the increased lawlessness we are currently witnessing in America right now in the many Democratic run states and how Joe Biden is fueling lawlessness. Arno explains:

At least 110 people died and around 2 000 houses were destroyed after violent flash flooding swept through Parwan, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2020, with authorities noting that the death toll may continue to rise. The disaster management added that dozens were injured and more than 1 000 people have been evacuated.

  IDF strikes targets in southern Gaza Strip

Israeli warplanes and tanks attacked Hamas targets in southern Gaza early Wednesday after terrorists in Gaza sent dozens of incendiary balloons toward Israel, sparking several fires. The Israel Defense Forces said it hit Hamas military posts and underground infrastructure in response to the balloon attacks. The 29 fires caused by airborne arson attacks in southern Israel on Tuesday followed 36 on Monday, 28 on Sunday and 35 the day before, according to the fire department. The strikes came hours after a Qatari envoy arrived in the Gaza Strip bringing $30 million in cash, seeking to ease the Israel-Hamas tensions that have led to daily arson balloon and rocket attacks on Israel and IDF reprisal strikes. The uptick in violence along the border is thought to be linked to demands for increased cash transfers from Qatar to the Strip, where around 60 percent of the population is unemployed. In recent days the IDF has responded to dozens of daily arson balloons and intermittent rocket fire with near-nightly reprisal strikes on Hamas targets in the Strip, including underground infrastructure, weapons production facilities, cement factories used to make parts for tunnels, and observation posts along the border.

Jordan, Egypt, Iraq summit stresses coordination, Palestinian issues

Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi “reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause,” at the summit, stressing that the conflict must be resolved according to international law, UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The three added that Israel must stop efforts to annex territory and any measures that “undermine prospects to achieve just peace, or seek to alter the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.” Kadhimi added that Iraq’s vision for the Palestinians is based on avoiding conflict and developing joint economic zones with Jordan and Egypt to enhance economic cooperation and integration. The summit stressed Jordan’s “important role” in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, according to Petra news. The trilateral mechanism between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq will be institutionalized with an executive secretariat that will be headquartered at Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for a year starting on August 25. The secretariat will rotate between the three countries. The mechanism was originally launched in 2019.

Netanyahu, Putin agree to continue coordination in Syria

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to continue coordinating to allow for Israeli airstrikes in Syria, in a phone conversation on Monday. The leaders “noted a mutual interest in continuing coordination in the Syrian sector to counter international terrorism,” the Kremlin readout of Monday’s call states. Israel has maintained a policy of airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria, to prevent their entrenchment along Israel’s northern border. Israeli and Russian officials have been in continual contact about the situation in Syria, where Russia has a significant military presence. Netanyahu and Putin also agreed to have their countries cooperate in research and production of a coronavirus vaccine.

Are Turkey and Greece Heading for War?

Turkey and Greece have announced they will conduct rival naval exercises off the Greek island of Crete on Tuesday amid rising tension over claims to gas and oil in the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey sent out an official warning to other vessels to avoid the area. Greece announced its exercises after Turkey said it would extend a mission by a seismic research ship. Turkey and Greece – both Nato members – are at loggerheads over the discovery of oil and gas deposits off Crete and Cyprus in disputed waters. Greece is in the European Union, which has called for dialogue. But France appears to side with Greece – it has been involved in a recent naval exercise with Greece. Turkey announced on Monday that exploration by its Oruc Reis research vessel in contentious waters would be extended for four days till 27 August. That appears to have spurred Greece, which sees the survey as unlawful, to signal naval exercises. Further complicating matters, Greek officials said on Friday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would dispatch F-16 fighter jets to Crete for joint training this week.

UN Security Council rejects US demand to ‘snapback’ sanctions on Iran

The UN on Tuesday dismissed a controversial bid by the United States to reimpose all international sanctions against Iran, laying bare the differences between Washington and other members of the Security Council on Iran policy. The council presidency, held by Indonesia since in August, said it was “not in a position to take further action” on Washington’s request citing a lack of consensus in the 15-member body. The Trump administration had demanded on August 20 that the Security Council restore UN sanctions against Iran accusing it of failing to comply with the terms of the historic 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Washington pulled out of the deal two years ago but insists on its legal right to trigger a return of sanctions, using the disputed procedure called “snapback.” All members, except the Dominican Republic, expressed their opposition to the US move, according to Indonesia’s UN ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani. The US ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft issued a strong rebuke to the announcement. She reiterated Washington’s position on the issue while accusing other members of the UN’s most powerful body showing a lack of courage and moral clarity.

Belarusian police have rounded up dozens of protesters heading home from peaceful demonstrations, rights groups said on Wednesday, after days in which the authorities exercised comparative restraint towards mass anti-government rallies. The country’s most celebrated writer, Nobel Prize-winner Svetlana Alexievich, was expected to appear for questioning later on Wednesday in a criminal investigation into an opposition council, two of whose leaders were jailed this week. President Alexander Lukashenko has faced more than two weeks of mass demonstrations against his 26-year rule since an election which his opponents say was rigged. He denies electoral fraud and says the protests are funded from abroad.

Portland police declare riot after protesters enter City Hall

Three people were shot early Wednesday, two fatally, law enforcement officials said, during a chaotic night of demonstrations over the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black resident whose children were nearby as their father was shot this week by a white police officer. In Kenosha, a third night of protests over the shooting of Mr. Blake stretched into the early morning hours of Wednesday, after demonstrators clashed with law enforcement officials near the county courthouse downtown. Tuesday evening was spent in a shifting, hourslong standoff between the police and protesters. Protesters assembled outside a newly erected metal barrier protecting the courthouse and threw water bottles, rocks and fireworks at the police. The police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets, repeatedly warning the crowd through a bullhorn that they were violating the city curfew of 8 p.m. and risking arrest. The crowd was eventually forced out of the park with tear gas and onto city streets, where the standoff continued.

The stinging success of Mozambique’s Islamic extremist rebels in seizing and holding a northern port city signals to the government, neighboring countries and the world that Africa has yet another insurgency hotspot. A battle looms as the government is expected to launch its forces to regain control of Mocimboa da Praia, a strategic port in northeastern Mozambique that was captured by the extremists earlier this month. The Islamic State Central African Province showed new levels of organization, strategy, manpower and weaponry in the days-long battle to win control of the port earlier this month. The extremists have held the port city for nearly two weeks, setting up what will likely be a bruising battle. “The Mozambican military will recapture Mocímboa da Praia. The question is when and how,” said expert Morier-Genoud. “Once they do, the question will also be how will the army hold onto the town. The present organization and logistics of the army clearly failed to secure the town this time round.”

Chinese media and regional sources are reporting what appears to be the biggest provocation yet amid the months-long US-China ratcheting tensions in the South China Sea. “China launched two medium-range missiles into the South China Sea on Wednesday morning, a source close to the Chinese military said, sending a warning to the United States,” The South China Post reports in a major breaking development. The launch is said to be in response to the major incident from Tuesday, wherein China’s PLA military angrily denounced that a US U-2 spy plane allegedly entered a ‘no-fly zone’ off China’s coast while the PLA conducted live-fire military drills.  Reports suggested the spy plane was caught seeking to observe PLA drills in the Bohai Sea off China’s north coast.

 Senators Demand FDA Explain Hydroxychloroquine Stance Amid Positive Studies And Physician Advocates

The debate over hydroxychloroquine has faded from the forefront as big tech has worked to suppress information and silence the voices of doctors and researchers promoting it. However, it appears the controversy over the drug has encouraged some senators to take a closer look, and it seems they are asking the FDA the right questions. Doctors and researchers advocating for hydroxychloroquine are recommending it be used in high-risk outpatients. In the letter to Hahn, the senators are asking about specific actions the agency has taken regarding hydroxychloroquine. The current FDA guidance is that it should not be used outside the hospital setting for COVID-19, and the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) has been withdrawn. Given the safety profile of the medication and the fact it is used daily on an outpatient basis around the world for malaria prevention, malaria treatment, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus, this guidance is ridiculous on its face. The recommended duration of hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19 is between five and seven days at FDA approved dosages. In a sane world, a doctor may prescribe drugs off-label at approved dosages if they think a medication may be useful for a patient’s symptoms. However, 2020 is not sane, and now the FDA interference has led to medical boards, hospital systems, and politicians banning the use of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19. These actions are unprecedented in the doctor-patient relationship.

Hurricane “Laura” is expected to rapidly strengthen to a Category 4 hurricane before it approaches Upper Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts and moves island near those areas tonight, August 26 or Thursday morning (LT), August 27, 2020. Potentially catastrophic storm surge, extreme winds, and flash floods are expected along the northwest Gulf Coast tonight (LT). At 12:00 UTC on August 26, Laura’s center was located about 450 km (280 miles) SSE of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and 465 km (290 miles) SE of Galveston, Texas. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h (115 mph) and minimum central pressure of 963 hPa. This makes it a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. It was moving NW at 24 km/h (15 mph) and this general motion should continue today, followed by NNW motion tonight (LT). On the forecast track, Laura should approach Upper Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts this evening and move inland near those areas tonight or Thursday morning.

 Israel could lose twice in the US gambit against Iran in the UNSC

The US set off on a risky diplomatic gambit last Thursday, triggering “snapback sanctions” on Iran, a week after losing a UN Security Council vote to renew the 2007 arms embargo on the Islamic Republic. As Pompeo and Netanyahu present it, the situation sounds simple enough: Iran is violating its nuclear deal, the JCPOA allows for sanctions if that happens, so the US is triggering those restrictions. But it is anything but simple, and if the American maneuver doesn’t work out, Israel could face two problems: Iran will be able to buy weapons, and veto power in the UN Security Council, which the US has used countless times to protect Israel, will be called into question. What UNSC Resolution 2231 does not say is what happens if someone leaves the JCPOA, as the US did in May 2018. The US is listed as a JCPOA participant in the agreement itself, and the US is relying on that text as the reason it can keep the arms embargo going. But none of the other parties to the nuclear deal agree with the American interpretation. P5 countries can’t automatically veto a snapback request, but they can veto the resolution to ignore the snapback. This means the US can veto any resolutions to reverse continuation of the arms embargo until the 30 days run out. But the other four of the P5 have their own tricks they can use, such as a motion to adjust UNSC Resolution 2231 to say the US is no longer a member of the JCPOA. China and Russia, however, will probably ignore the renewed sanctions. This will destroy any semblance of relevance for the JCPOA, and it will weaken the power of the UN Security Council as a body making binding decisions.

Pompeo, Kushner to visit Israel and Arab states as US pushes more peace deals

The Trump administration will send two top officials to the Middle East this week in a bid to capitalize on momentum from the historic agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to establish diplomatic relations. Three diplomats say US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner plan to make separate, multiple-nation visits to the region in the coming days to push Arab-Israeli rapprochement in the aftermath of the Israel-UAE deal. Pompeo is expected to depart on Sunday for Israel, Bahrain, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Sudan. Kushner plans to leave later in the week for Israel, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Morocco, the diplomats said.

  Explosion at Arab gas pipeline leads to total blackout in Syria

An explosion on the Arab gas pipeline has caused a total blackout in Syria, the state news agency (SANA) reported on Monday, quoting the nation’s electricity minister. The minister said the explosion occurred between the Ad Dumayr and Adra areas in Syria. Syria’s oil minister said the explosion could be a terrorist act. The 1,200 kilometre (745 mile) Arab Gas Pipeline, which carries natural gas from Egypt into Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, supplies three power stations in Syria’s south. Last month, a little-known US oil company signed a deal with the Kurdish administration in Syria’s north-east to market oil and modernise existing oil fields under Kurdish control.

 Turkey’s Erdogan hosts large Hamas delegation with wanted terrorist

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted a large Hamas delegation on Saturday on the eve of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Israel. The meeting was the latest in a series of high-profile Hamas meetings in Turkey that have all been pushed by Erdogan and his team. Ankara is a supporter of Hamas, which has been accused of plotting attacks on Israel in Turkey. The country has given Hamas members citizenship, according to media accounts in the United Kingdom. Hamas praised the meeting with Erdogan on Saturday in a press release. Israel recently backed Greece as Turkey increased pressure. In addition, Israel has signed a pipeline deal with Greece and Cyprus, and Egypt and has also signed a deal with Greece. Turkey has in turn sent a fleet under the cover of a research ship to the Mediterranean and sent Syrian mercenaries to fight in Libya as part of a deal with Libya to lay claim to the sea between the two countries, angering Greece. The UAE and Egypt support the Benghazi-based faction in Libya against the Turkish-backed factions in Tripoli. Turkey’s overall goal is to unite Hamas, Qatar and the Government of National Accord in Tripoli in a coalition that looks increasingly anchored in parties linked to the Muslim Brotherhood as part of a grand coalition against the UAE, Israel, Egypt, Greece and other countries.

Earlier this year, Tehran sent several gasoline cargoes to Venezuela to help it overcome fuel shortages, as well as equipment to help state oil company PDVSA repair its dilapidated refineries. “We are helping each other,” Maduro said in an interview broadcast on state television. “I think the Iranian experience will help us reinforce our management capacity.” He did not provide further details of how Iran was helping, noting he should maintain “silence since we are in a war.”

14 killed, 75 wounded in bomb attacks in south Philippines

Muslim militants allied with the Islamic State group set off a powerful motorcycle explosive followed by a suicide bombing that together killed 14 people on Monday, many of them soldiers, in the worst extremist attack in the Philippines this year, military officials said. At least 75 soldiers, police and civilians were wounded in the midday bombings in the town of Jolo in the southern Sulu province, regional military commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan said. Vinluan said most of the victims, including children, were killed and wounded in the first attack, when a bomb attached to a motorcycle exploded near two parked army trucks in front of a grocery store and computer shop in Jolo. A second blast, apparently from a female suicide attacker, occurred about an hour later and killed the bomber, a soldier, a police commando and wounded several others, a military report said. A third unexploded bomb was reportedly found in a public market. Jolo was immediately placed in a security lockdown by troops and police.

The Portland Police Department said that at least 250 people marched through the Portland’s suburbs on their way to the Penumbra Kelly Building. Rioters strode through residential streets with a teddy bear set up in a guillotine, burning American flags, and demanding sleeping residents afford them shelter and protection. When the violent group arrived at their building destination, which houses public safety offices, it pulled out weapons and projectiles to use against law enforcement officials such as rocks, frozen bottles of water, and laser pointers. In a statement, the Portland Police Department said, “Many participants in the march carried hardened shields, helmets, armor, gas masks, and wore all-black clothing. At least one participant targeted the Portland Police Air Support Unit airplane with a green laser.

Misguided lockdowns have destroyed the global economy and the impact is likely to last for years. The fallacy of the “lives or the economy” argument is evident now that we see that countries like Taiwan, South Korea, Austria, Sweden or Holland have been able to preserve the business fabric and the economy while doing a much better job managing the pandemic than countries with severe lockdowns. One of the most alarming facts about this crisis is the pace at which bankruptcies are rising. Despite an $11 trillion liquidity injection and government aid in 2020, stocks and bonds at all-time highs and sovereign as well as corporate yields at all-time lows, companies are going bust at the fastest pace since the Great Depression. Why? Because a solvency crisis cannot be disguised by liquidity. Trillions of liquidity are giving investors and governments a false sense of security because yields are low and valuations are high, but it is a mirage driven by central bank purchases that cannot disguise how quickly companies are entering into long-term solvency issues. This is important because soaring bankruptcies and the rise in zombie companies means less employment, less investment and lower growth in the future. According to the FT, large US corporate bankruptcy filings are now running at a record pace and are set to surpass levels reached during the financial crisis in 2009.

Universal Income Trial Giving Select Citizens $1,400 Per Month Begins in Germany

Germany is launching its first experiment with universal basic income this week with a new trial that will put about $1,400 per month into the pockets of 120 people for the next three years to see whether the security net of a steady cash flow improves their well-being. The study, which is conducted by the German Institute for Economic Research, will give 120 Germans a monthly payment just over that of the country’s poverty line, while an additional 1,380 people taking part will not receive any payments, according to The Times of London. Both groups will reportedly have to fill out regular questionnaires about their lives, including what they do in their free time and their emotional states. The study is funded by donations from about 140,000 people through a lobbying group called Mein Grundeinkommen, which supports universal basic income, Business Insider reported. Those who organized the trial said its goal is to help provide further information to contribute to the debate of whether universal basic income should be implemented

New Ebola Outbreak Reported In Congo

A new outbreak of the Ebola virus has infected 100 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Equateur Province, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which said several dozen people have died. The outbreak was first declared on June 1 in the province, and a cluster was first found in Mbandaka, the capital. “The outbreak has since spread to 11 of the province’s 17 health zones. Of the 100 cases reported so far, 96 are confirmed and four are probable,” the agency said. Some 43 people have died from the deadly virus, which causes hemorrhagic fever. “The outbreak presents significant logistical challenges, with affected communities spanning large distances in remote and densely-forested areas of the province, which straddles the Equator,” said WHO. “At its widest points, the outbreak is spread across approximately 200 miles both from east to west and from north to south.”

   Marco becomes hurricane headed for U.S. Gulf Coast

Laura on track to hit U.S. as hurricane; Marco as tropical storm

Marco became a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico Sunday on a path toward the Louisiana coast. Tropical Storm Laura battered the Dominican Republic and Haiti and headed to the same part of the U.S. coast, also as a potential hurricane. It would be the first time two hurricanes form in the Gulf of Mexico simultaneously, according to records dating to at least 1900, said Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach. The National Hurricane Center said Marco was about 300 miles (480 kilometers) south of the mouth of the Mississippi River and heading north-northwest at 14 miles per hour (22kph), packing winds of 75 miles per hour (120kph). The center warned of life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds along the Gulf Coast.

Israel prepares for Gaza showdown after 7 rockets notch up Palestinian aggression

The IDF struck targets belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip during three rounds of airstrikes as 12 rockets were fired towards southern Israel from the coastal enclave on Thursday night. Of the 12 projectiles fired from the Strip, 9 were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system and others landed in open fields or within Gaza. In response to the rocket fire, Israeli military said that Israeli Airforce jets and helicopters struck sites belonging to Hamas in three waves, including underground facilities, a rocket-building site, and a cement facility used to provide materials to build tunnels used by the group. As a result of the major uptick in violence, Gantz warned Hamas that the IDF would strongly retaliate. Hamas has demanded a new ceasefire agreement, which would guarantee it additional aid from Qatar, along with other funding for infrastructure projects in the Strip. The terror group’s precise list of demands has not been released. In order to pressure Israel to acquiesce, the terror group has been ratcheting up the violence along the border, according to its own officials.

Why the PA is so angry at the Israel-UAE deal

The Palestinian Authority is fuming, incensed at the agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Ostensibly this should have been a wonderful week for the PA. Its number one goal in recent months – thwarting Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank – was achieved, with the help of none other than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself, backed by the Trump administration. Moreover, canceling annexation should have led to a resumption of security cooperation between the PA and Israel, which was halted by the PA, to pressure Israel into calling off the annexation, which lo and behold, it did.  There are two main reasons why the Israel-UAE agreement has caused such furious reactions in Ramallah. The first is political and well-known – the loss of prestige for the Israel-Palestinian conflict: Suddenly, the UAE, which is a primary player in the Sunni Arab field, is putting its own interests before those of the Palestinians. The second reason, which may carry more psychological weight, is related to Mohammad Dahlan, advisor to Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, also known by his acronym MBZ. Dahlan is viewed by many as the nemesis of PA President Mahmoud Abbas. The Old Man, as Abbas is known among his men, views this agreement as an especially conspiratorial attempt by Dahlan to once again oust him from the presidency and, this time, also to harm the Palestinian Authority itself. The hatred between Abbas and his former Gaza security chief and key adviser runs deep.

The grapes – Gurdali and Chardali are two species of grapes mentioned in the Talmud. Those two species of grapes are indigenous to the Hebron area according to the site’s vinter, Amichai Ariel, King David originally discovered the grapes in Hebron and the vineyard that he is reviving them is in the adjacent town of Kiryat Arba.

Hundreds of Houthis killed in fighting in central Yemen, officials say

Almost 1,000 Houthi fighters have been killed over the past four days in fierce clashes with government forces, which include allied tribesmen, in various contested areas of the central province of Marib, with hundreds more wounded or captured, local media and government officials said on Thursday. The Iran-backed Houthis have stepped up their attacks on Marib’s Serwah and Helan areas in an attempt to capture the oil- and gas-rich city of Marib. The escalation in fighting comes as the United Nations Security Council and the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths called upon warring factions to halt all military operations in Marib in order not to jeopardize peace in a city that is currently home to hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people who have taken shelter their over the last 5 years after fleeing their homes in the north.

Iran announced Thursday it had seized a UAE-flagged ship after claiming the UAE coastguard had opened fire on Iranian fishing boats earlier this week, killing two fisherman and arresting a third, Iranian media reported. The Foreign Ministry in Tehran issued a statement saying it summoned the United Arab Emirates envoy and filed a formal complaint, claiming Emirati Coast Guard vessels on Monday fired at several Iranian fishing boats. The UAE provided no other information on the incident. Tensions between the two countries have been rising since the announcement last week that the UAE, which faces Iran across the strategic waterway leading into the oil-rich Gulf region, was establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

Afghanistan: Bomb Attacks Leave 13 Dead, Four Wounded

Four people were killed and a further 13 wounded following a series of explosions targeting government agencies in Afghanistan on Wednesday, local authorities have confirmed. In one of the attacks, which coincided with Afghanistan’s Independence Day, two sticky bombs reportedly intended for civil servants in capital Kabul killed two people, including a police officer, while injuring two others. The other attack took place in Puli Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, with a bomb exploding on a vehicle belonging to local intelligence officials. Two service members died, while 11 others were wounded, confirmed Nazir Najem, the provincial governor’s spokesman. One of those killed in the attack was high-ranking Education Ministry employee Abdul Baqi Amin, director of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education, after an explosive was placed inside his car. His death took place less than a week after Fawzia Koofi, a member of the government’s negotiating team, was injured in an assassination attempt in the north of Kabul.

Protesters in Oregon’s largest city have clashed again with federal agents outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building that has become a new focus of the demonstrations that have gripped Portland for months, officials said Friday. People in a group of about 100 late Thursday and before dawn Friday sprayed the building with graffiti, hurled rocks and bottles at agents and shined laser lights at them, Portland police said in a statement. The violence came a day after protesters clashed with federal agents for the first time since July in a demonstration that also targeted the ICE building. Two people were arrested and several officers suffered minor injuries.

Kenyan police teargas anti-corruption protesters in Nairobi

Kenya’s police have teargassed protesters holding peaceful demonstrations against alleged corruption including the theft of supplies for the fight against COVID-19. At least 12 demonstrators from a group of 100 protesting in different parts of Nairobi, the capital, were arrested by police, said central business district police chief Mark Wanjala. Picketing and protesting are rights guaranteed by the Kenyan constitution but police argue that they dispersed Friday’s demonstrations because of concerns that large gatherings could lead to the spread of the coronavirus. Kenyans have expressed outrage throughout the week on social media platforms over the announcement that the anti-corruption agency is investigating the theft of millions of dollars of supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.Officials are investigating the alleged theft of supplies of personal protective equipment worth millions of dollars donated by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, according to the announcement reports.

  Pakistani Minister Threatens India With Nuclear Retaliation

Boasting of the compact and calculative capabilities of its nuclear arsenal, Pakistani Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed has threatened India that, if provoked, Islamabad will not hesitate to wage a war and that it will be the “last war”. “If India attacks Pakistan, there is no room for a conventional war. It would be a bloody and last war, a nuclear war. Our weapons are compact, calculative, and perfect to hit the target. It would target areas avoiding Muslim clusters”, Rasheed replied to a question during an interview with Pakistan television channel Saama TV on Thursday. Rashid, who “predicted” a “likely” date for a full-blown war last year, also claimed that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal can reach the northeastern Indian state of Assam which is 1,860 kilometres from the border of the two countries.

A series of fires raging through five North Bay counties grew to more than 124,000 acres by Wednesday night, destroying more than 100 structures and threatening 25,000 others. The firestorm was the largest of several fast-moving blazes in the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere in Northern California — many caused by intense lightning storms — that spread quickly overnight, burning homes and forcing thousands to flee. Over the last 72 hours, there have been some 10,849 lightning strikes throughout California, state officials said. As of Wednesday afternoon, 367 major fires were burning statewide, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

  Two dead as Hurricane Genevieve approaches Baja-California peninsula

Tropical Storm Laura and Tropical Depression Fourteen: Track the Storms

Packing sustained winds of 115 miles per hour (185 km/hour), with even higher gusts, Hurricane Genevieve was set to brush the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula on Wednesday, as two people drowned in heavy seas, authorities said. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the west coast of the Baja California peninsula from north of Todos Santos to Cabo San Lazaro. The NHC warned that heavy rainfall from Genevieve may lead to life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides across portions of the far southern end of Baja California Sur through Thursday. Meanwhile, For the first time since the Great Depression, it’s possible that two tropical systems could make landfall in the mainland United States at virtually the same time. Tropical Storm Laura will affect the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands as a tropical storm with rain and gusty winds by this weekend. This system may then head toward Florida and the Gulf of Mexico early next week, possibly as a hurricane. Tropical Depression Fourteen has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to first impact parts of Central America and Mexico as a tropical storm or hurricane before emerging into the western Gulf of Mexico. This system faces an uncertain future in the western Gulf of Mexico, but it could affect parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast next week as a hurricane.
