Al-Aksa Mosque Imam Raed Al-Daan said at an Islamic conference in Milan, Italy that the Arab armies would liberate Haifa, Safed, Jaffa, Lod, and Beit Shean. “We will return to the sea of Jaffa, to the sands of Haifa, to the palm trees of Beit Shean, and to the hills of Lod and Ramle. We in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque await the legions of the conquerors. We await the armies from Tunisia, from Jordan, from Egypt, from Iraq, from the Maghreb, and from the Hijaz,” said Daan according to a report by MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute). The speech was aired on Al-Jazeera TV on April 27.

Headline: PM to push for law declaring Israel nation-state of the Jews
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that he would advance new legislation in the Knesset to anchor Israel’s status as the nation-state of the Jewish people, saying that opposing such a recognition would eventually undermine the country’s very right to exist. “It is my intention to submit a Basic Law to the Knesset that would provide a constitutional anchor for Israel’s status as the national state of the Jewish people,” he said at an event to mark Israel’s Independence Day in Tel Aviv. The new Basic Law would respect the rights of non-Jewish minorities living in the country, in accordance with Israel’s Declaration of Independence, Netanyahu said. Israel has no constitution, but the Supreme Court has declared that Basic Laws have the same standing as one.

Headline:Palestinians officially join 5 UN treaties
The Palestinians on Friday became a formal party to five global treaties banning torture and racial discrimination, and protecting the rights of women, children and the disabled, the UN said. Rupert Colville, spokesman for the UN human rights office, told reporters that the move followed the Palestinians’ April 2 declaration to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that they were adopting the treaties. In addition, Palestinians will on May 7 become party to an accord protecting children in conflict zones — which is an optional part of the overall child rights treaty — and on July 2 it will adopt two agreements governing civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. “This accession to seven core human rights treaties and a key protocol is a significant step towards enhancing the promotion and protection of human rights in Palestine,” Colville told reporters.

Headline: UN chief to Israel, Palestinians: Avoid unilateral steps
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged Israel and the Palestinians to avoid unilateral steps that would put the peace process in further jeopardy. In an official statement, Ban said he had been keeping abreast of ongoing developments in the Middle East peace process — most recently, the US-mediated peace talks that hit a standstill after both sides deviated from their commitments. On Thursday, Ban said the Security Council had convened on April 29 — the deadline for completing the talks restarted by Kerry last July — to discuss the latest developments and reflect on “how to preserve the prospects for a two-state solution.” Ban said the time had come for reflection for the international community and the two parties themselves. The objective, he said, should be to find ways to move the peace process forward.

Headline:PLO official: Netanyahu using Jewish state law to bury peace
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempt to pass a Jewish state law in the Knesset is a euphemism for blowing up the last chance to reach a two-state solution along the 1967 lines, a senior Palestinian official said Thursday. Responding to Netanyahu’s announcement on Thursday that he plans to push forward a new Basic Law to “legally anchor” Israel’s status as “the nation-state of the Jewish people,” the Palestinian official issued a statement that the PLO already recognized Israel in 1988 and again in the 1993 mutual recognition agreement signed by Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin. “If Netanyahu wants to push the Palestinians into the corner he should also remember that the only reference to the Jewish State is the 1947 UN Resolution 181. The Palestinians, as such, will be ready to consider recognizing Israel as the Jewish State only based on Resolution 181. Nothing more. Nothing less,” the official said.

Headline: Several killed, injured in Egypt blasts
A bomb explosion has killed at least one policeman and injured three others in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, while two other bomb attacks have targeted the volatile Sinai Peninsula. According to Egyptian state TV, the blast occurred on Friday in the capital’s eastern Heliopolis suburb, hitting a traffic police post near a court building. The attack came after two explosions rocked the town of El-Tor in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, security officials said. The first bomb attack targeted an army checkpoint, killing one soldier and injuring five others while the second assault, on the road between El-Tor and the tourist resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, hit a bus and wounded four passengers. The governor of South Sinai Province identified those injured as employees of a tourism company. No one has so far claimed responsibility for Friday’s assaults.

Headline:Syria truce ‘to let rebels withdraw from besieged Homs’
Opposition fighters are to be allowed to withdraw from besieged parts of the Syrian city of Homs under a deal with the government, reports say. Rebels will be allowed to pull back to opposition-held areas north of Homs, activists say. The Syrian government has not commented on the reports. Fighters have held areas around the Old City despite a two-year siege. Earlier this year civilians were let out. Also on Friday, two bombs in Hama province reportedly killed at least 18. Eleven children were among the dead after suicide bombers struck in the villages of Jibrin and al-Humeiri, both under government control, state media said. The attack comes three days after scores of people were killed and injured in car bombings in government-controlled parts of Homs city. There has so far been no claim of responsibility for the Hama bombings, correspondents say, but al-Qaeda affiliated rebels of the Nusra Front have carried out several car bombings in recent weeks.

Headline: More Than 92 Million Americans Remain Out Of Labor Force
Despite the unemployment rate plummeting, more than 92 million Americans remain out of the labor force. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.3 percent in April from 6.7 percent in March, the lowest it has been since September 2008 when it was 6.1 percent. The sharp drop, though, occurred because the number of people working or seeking work fell. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not count people not looking for a job as unemployed. The bureau noted that the civilian labor force dropped by 806,000 last month, following an increase of 503,000 in March. The amount (not seasonally adjusted) of Americans not in the labor force in April rose to 92,594,000, almost 1 million more than the previous month. In March, 91,630,000 Americans were not in the labor force, which includes an aging population that is continuing to head into retirement.

And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death (Thanatos in Greek meaning the death of the body whether natural or violent), and by the beasts of the earth” (Revelation) Hosea4:1-3 & Ezekiel 38:20 & Zephaniah 1:3 “I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, The fish of the sea, And the stumbling blocksalong with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land,” Says the Lord.” (Zephaniah) “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the fish of the sea are dying. [Hosea 4:1-3] The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. [Ezekiel 38:20]

Headline: Scientists vexed in probe of North American starfish deaths
Scientists are struggling to find the cause of a disease that is killing off numerous species of starfish on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America, dispatching the five-armed creatures in a particularly gruesome way. Researchers said on Thursday they have ruled out some possible culprits including fungi, some parasites and certain other microorganisms and are taking a hard look at whether viruses or bacteria may be to blame. The starfish, also called sea stars, are being obliterated by an unexplained wasting disease that causes white lesions to appear before the animal’s body sags and ruptures and it spills out its internal organs. “The magnitude of it is very concerning. There’s the potential that some of these species could actually go extinct,” said Cornell University ecologist Drew Harvell, one of the scientists involved in the loosely organized search for a cause.

Headline: Newly arrived virus spread by mosquitoes is rapidly gaining foothold across the Caribbean
A recently arrived mosquito-borne virus that causes an abrupt onset of high fever and intense joint pain is rapidly gaining a foothold in many spots of the Caribbean, health experts said Thursday. There are currently more than 4,000 confirmed cases of the fast-spreading chikungunya virus in the Caribbean, most of them in the French Caribbean islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe and St. Martin. Another 31,000 suspected cases have been reported across the region of scattered islands. The often painful illness most commonly found in Asia and Africa was first detected in December in tiny St. Martin. It was the first time that local transmission of chikungunya had been reported in the Americas. Since then, it has spread to nearly a dozen other islands and French Guiana, an overseas department of France on the north shoulder of South America.

Headline: U.S. Reports First Case of MERS
Saudi Arabia said Thursday 26 more people have been infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) this week, while Egypt has reported its first case of the virus. The Egyptian case is a 27-year-old man who had been living in Saudi Arabia, Reuters reports. He returned to Egypt after being in contact with an uncle who recently died of MERS. There have been 371 confirmed cases of MERS in Saudi Arabia, with an 89% jump last month. Most of the recent cases have come from outbreaks in three hospitals in Jeddah. So far, 107 people have died from the disease, which is in the same virus family as SARS. It has no vaccine or treatment, and researchers believe the disease may have come from camels. Meanwhile, The United States has reported its first case of a new virus found in the Middle East, in a traveler from the region, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. The patient, a healthcare worker who traveled from Saudi Arabia to Indiana, is being kept isolated in an Indiana hospital after being diagnosed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus, the CDC says.

Ukraine has launched a military assault on the flashpoint town of Slavyansk, raising the stakes in the showdown with Russia, which has promised “catastrophic consequences” if Kiev stepped up operations. Insurgents shot down two army helicopters, killing two servicemen, including a pilot, as the army tightened its noose around the rebel-held town of 160,000 people. The predawn offensive drew a sharp response from Moscow, where a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin said it dealt a “final blow” to a deal clinched last month in Geneva meant to ease the crisis. A spokeswoman for insurgents in Slavyansk, the epicentre of tensions in eastern Ukraine, said the army had staged a “full-scale attack” on the town.

Headline: Police, protesters clash in Venezuela capital
Fresh clashes have erupted between police and anti-government protesters in Venezuela’s capital city of Caracas. Protesters set up barricades to block streets in the municipality of Chacao in east Caracas on Thursday, defying Venezuela’s Supreme Court ruling, which bans unauthorized protest rallies and allows police to break up such gatherings. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd. Opponents described the recent court ruling as another attempt by the government to crack down on dissidents, adding the ruling goes against democratic principles. Similar protests were also held in Caracas as well as other Venezuelan cities, including Valencia and Maracaibo, on Wednesday to call for an end to the newly imposed restrictions on the right to demonstrate.

Scuffles have broken out between Italian police and demonstrators in the northern city of Turin as hundreds took to the streets to protest against unemployment and austerity. Activists in Turin lobbed smoke bombs at police on Thursday in a rally to mark International Workers’ Day, commonly known as the May Day. The demonstrators voiced outrage at the government’s failure to bring the unemployment rate down and provide proper housing for the poor. Several people were arrested during the protest in the industrial city, which has been hardly hit by Italy’s two-year economic recession. Thousands of protesters and trade union representatives held peaceful rallies across Italy on May Day.
