“The PLO's Executive Committee on Tuesday accused Israel of exploiting the global climate to abandon the two-state solution, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA. A statement quoted in the report cited the Monday approval of 942 housing units in Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood as well as the approval of master plans for several West Bank settlements.
"This dangerous escalation is due to the failure of the Quartet and the international community to stop Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and their land," the PLO committee said in a statement. “The region is headed towards a bloody conflict, with an unpredictable outcome.”
Also Tuesday, the United Nations reacted harshly to the two construction plans, saying the moves were illegal. "We reiterate that Israeli settlement activity anywhere in occupied territory, including in east Jerusalem, is illegal and contrary to the Roadmap. We call on the Israeli Government to halt further planning for new settlement units, which undermines efforts to bring about resumed Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and prejudices final status discussions," Richard Miron, spokesman for the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Robert Serry said in a statement. The UN statement came after the US expressed concern over settlement expansion on Monday. "The United States is deeply concerned by continuing Israeli actions with respect to settlement construction," ABC News quoted White House National Security Staff spokesman Tommy Vietor as saying. "Not only are continued Israeli settlements illegitimate, Israel’s actions run counter to efforts to resume direct negotiations," Vietor added”

Prophecy Sign: More signs that Egypt will be fulfilling their role in the Psalm 83 war against Israel. “Speaking in an interview with FNA on Tuesday, Hussein announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election in Egypt to help establish democracy in his country and materialize people's demands. The Amal secretary-general further noted his campaign agenda and said if elected as Egypt's president, his working agenda would be in full harmony with people's demands as shouted in the streets of Cairo and other cities in the January 25 revolution. Hussein said "confrontation against the Zionist plans in occupied Palestine", among others, is his top priority on the scene of foreign policy. He viewed Egypt's relations with the Zionist regime as detrimental to his country, and said if he is elected president, "Egypt would no more be subordinate or dependent on the Zionist regime the same way that we would support the Palestinian nation until the materialization of their righteous demands".

“Israeli President Shimon Peres visits the White House Tuesday with two September deadlines bearing down on Israel – one from the Palestinians and one set by President Obama himself. When Mr. Obama relaunched Middle East peace talks last September, he set a goal of reaching some kind of agreement within a year. The administration has never said the president has relinquished that goal, even as the unforeseen "Arab spring" has roiled the region. “Drought leaves millions hungry in E. Africa” Nairobi – The head of the United Nations' World Food Programme says a severe drought, high food prices and conflict have left more than five million people hungry across the Horn of Africa. Josette Sheeran says the drought began with the failure of rains late last year in northern and eastern regions of Kenya, south-central Somalia and eastern Ethiopia. The agency said the previous figure rose by 1.4 million. Sheeran visited Kenya's capital on Saturday on a fact-finding mission. She warned that the number of people in need of food assistance could increase further if the region sees more poor rains. The UN said last month that global food prices are the highest in 20 years.”

“CAMERON – April showers may be the only chance for corn, cotton, row crops, home gardens and May flowers. The National Weather Service reported that for the first time in more than two years, the entire state is in at least the abnormally dry category, and 43 percent is in extreme drought, the greatest extent since the 2005-06 dry spell with October 2010 to March among the driest on record in Texas. Prices of farm commodities surged after it emerged stocks of corn for the year ahead will be 15% lower in the US, putting further pressure on an already constrained supply chain and exerting a renewed squeeze on its end cost.
Farmers might be looking to plug this shortfall over the near-term but their efforts are sure to be thwarted by ballooning demands. Makers of alternative energies could well require access to larger amounts of soft commodities and grains, particularly if the appetite for nuclear falls away as expected in the wake of the crisis in Japan. Moreover, supply fears are being compounded by the continued MENA unrest and over the next 12 months the world’s population is set to make an inevitable lurch to 7 billion. All these demands are bound to weigh heavily on supplies of agricultural commodities. But these growing and competing pressures needn’t mean that ever-rising commodity costs become a perennial theme.”

Prophecy Sign: Revelation 6:6, “MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Soaring food costs are giving Americans sticker shock at the grocery store, and consumers are responding by getting crafty with their saving strategies. Approximately 99 percent of U.S. adults are aware of rising food prices, and the vast majority (95 percent) plans to employ at least one savings strategy at the grocery store as a result, according to a new survey conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by Coupons.com.
The survey found that incorporating coupons was the most popular planned activity to offset rising food prices, cited by nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of U.S. adults. This strategy was followed by other budget-stretching actions, including comparing unit prices of package sizes (71 percent) and shopping at discount grocery stores (66 percent). The study also identified other planned behavior, including stocking up when items reach rock-bottom prices (64 percent) and buying in bulk (57 percent), among others.
“Food prices are expected to continue to rise this year to potentially all-time highs. Couple that with flat incomes, and increases in pricing of basic items such as food is like taking a pay cut,” said Steven Boal, CEO of Coupons.com Incorporated, in a press release. “Fortunately, consumers are savvier than ever when it comes to stretching budgets, and it’s great to see that so many of them will take matters into their own hands when it comes to mitigating the effects of higher food costs.”

“The ozone layer has seen unprecedented damage in the Arctic this winter due to cold weather in the upper atmosphere. “By the end of March, 40% of the ozone in the stratosphere had been destroyed, against a previous record of 30%. The ozone layer protects against skin cancer, but the gas is destroyed by reactions with industrial chemicals. These chemicals are restricted by the UN's Montreal Protocol, but they last so long in the atmosphere that damage is expected to continue for decades.”
