Headline: Hezbollah attack on Har Dov ordered by Iran following explosion at nuclear facility
According to unnamed sources in Washington, Iran ordered its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah to carry out Tuesday’s attack on Israeli forces patrolling the Israel-Lebanon border following an alleged attack on the Parchin nuclear facility in Iran “by a foreign state,” the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Rai reported on Friday. Hezbollah planted and detonated two bombs in the Har Dov region along the Lebanese-Israeli border on Tuesday, with one device injuring two IDF soldiers. A second blast tore through the same area about 30 minutes later, but failed to cause injuries or damages. Satellite images taken of Iran’s Parchin military compound after a blast reportedly tore through it show “damage consistent with an attack” at the site, according to an earlier report by the Israel Defense website on Thursday. According to the report by Ronen Solomon, the images form evidence that “refutes the denials of the Iranian government” and prove that the explosion at Parchin – which has been linked by Western intelligence to nuclear missile fuse trials – “indeed occurred inside the military compound.” The images “clearly show damage consistent with an attack against bunkers in a central locality within the military research complex at the Parchin military compound,” the report added.

Headline: Kotel Rabbi: ‘Temple Mount has Turned into a Terror Base’
Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Kotel (Western Wall) and Holy Sites, decried the Arab attempts to wreck the week-long Sukkot holiday by launching violent riots against police and Jewish visitors on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. Speaking to Arutz Sheva, the rabbi argued that the Arab rioters are intentionally trying to prevent Jews from reaching the site on Sukkot, one of the three Jewish pilgrimage holidays that in ancient times required Jews to travel to the Temple in Jerusalem, a practice maintained by many. “The Arab leadership’s feigned ignorance in the face of these acts of violence by young rioters is shocking,” said Rabbi Rabinowitz. “How can they deny the reality that the Temple Mount and the (Al-Aqsa) mosque has been turned into a terror base?” Indeed, on Friday police prepared for riots by limiting access for Muslims over concerns that ongoing riots would be further inflamed, particularly after Hamas called for that violence the night before saying “we will fight till the last drop of blood.” “If someone harms the holiness of the site it’s the rioters manipulating the sensitivity and holiness of the location to harm the gentle fabric in the Old City, throwing rocks and molotov cocktails from the mosque,” emphasized the rabbi. The Jordanian Waqf (Islamic trust) that holds de facto rule over the site has banned Jewish prayer at the site, while at the very least turning a blind eye to constant violent rioting. According to the rabbi, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is not being treated as a holy site by the Waqf – rather it is a political trump card. “We have never heard of a ‘holy site’ being a site of violence,” said Rabbi Rabinowitz. “These activities demonstrate that the Temple Mount for them is a platform for a political struggle and not a religious matter.”

“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

Headline: PA, Jordan blame Israel Police for Temple Mount riot
Following what police are deeming a planned Wednesday morning Arab riot on the Temple Mount against officers and non-Muslim visitors, a police official on Thursday denied accusations by the PA and Jordan of Israeli religious incitement. The violence took place at about 7:30 a.m. on the eve of Succot, when dozens of masked Arab youths threw rocks, firebombs, fireworks, metal pipes, and concrete slabs at officers and tourists upon opening the Mugrabi Gate entrance to the holy site. According to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, cops gleaned intelligence of an imminent attack to be carried out by Palestinians, who slept at the mosque the night before to orchestrate the assault and construct barricades to block responding officers. “The facts are that Israel Police were prepared for morning disturbances on the day of Succot, as we were for Rosh Hashana,” Rosenfeld said on Thursday. “Special patrol and riot units were stationed upon opening Mugrabi Gate for hundreds of visitors when 50-80 masked Arabs, who stayed overnight, threw rocks, firecrackers, pipes, and firebombs at tourists and police.” Numerous reports in Palestinian media corroborated Rosenfeld’s claim of a premeditated attack ordered by a prominent Muslim cleric. After dismantling an Arab-made roadblock obstructing the gate, Rosenfeld said police promptly responded using non-lethal force, including stun grenades, to push the rioters into al-Aksa Mosque. “It is police policy to not enter the mosque, so we locked its doors in order to contain the disturbances,” he said. “While suspects continued to throw flammable liquids at police through the windows, officers were able to eventually contain the violence and allow the hundreds of visitors to proceed touring the Temple Mount from 8 a.m.-11 a.m.” Rosenfeld said three officers were lightly wounded during the melee, which also resulted in nine Palestinian arrests. Despite the preconceived nature of the riot, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday accused “extremists and the settlers who are supported by the Israeli government” of attempting to turn the conflict into a religious war, rather than a political one. “These Israeli acts [are] trying to make the conflict here a religious one,” Abbas said during a press conference from his Ramallah presidential compound hours after the officers were attacked. “They, as well as us, and the whole world, know the danger of using religion in political conflicts.” Meanwhile, in a statement issued by Jordan’s government – whose Wakf Islamic religious trust has overseen the holy site since the 1967 Six Day War – a spokesman said Israeli police targeted Muslim parishioners in order to allow the tourists to proceed.“The forces of the occupation prevented religious officials from entering [the compound] and cleared it of all Muslims, while at the same time enabling Jewish extremists to storm it and pray with security forces protection,” Muhammad Momeni told AFP. Momeni went on to say dozens of Muslims were injured during the rioting and demanded that Israel “stop its devastating campaign against al-Aksa mosque, religious officials and worshipers.”

Headline: Gunmen attack Lebanese Army posts in Tripoli
Masked gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on Lebanese Army posts in the northern city of Tripoli overnight, security sources said Friday. The sources told The Daily Star that gunmen with machine guns stormed three Army posts in the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh around midnight, prompting soldiers to return fire. They reported no casualties in the attacks. The Army spread out across Bab al-Tabbaneh to look for the assailants, the sources added. Later, an unknown assailant also tossed a hand grenade along the city’s Abu Ali River in Tripoli overnight, the sources said. On Friday morning, soldiers also removed an undetonated hand grenade in Bab al-Tabbaneh. The Army confirmed the attacks in a statement, saying soldiers at a checkpoint in Talaat al-Omari in Bab al-Tabbaneh had returned fire after coming under attack. It also said a group of individuals tossed two hand grenades on Syria Street, which runs parrallel to the Abu Ali River, in Bab al-Tabbaneh at 4:30 a.m.

Islamic State fighters advanced deeper into the Syrian town of Kobani on the Turkish border on Friday, and have taken control of a command center belonging to the Kurdish forces defending the Syrian city of Kobani from invasion. “They have taken at least 40 percent (of the town),” Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said by telephone. Islamic State fighters were now in almost complete control of the “security quarter”, which is home to the administrative buildings used by the local government, he said. Ocalan Iso, deputy head of the Kurdish forces, said Islamic State was still bombarding the town centre with mortars, showing that its fighters had not extended their control over more than 20 percent of the town. “There are fierce clashes and they are bombing the centre of Kobani from afar,” he said by telephone. Meanwhile, a local Kurdish official and Syrian activists say the group is shelling a Syrian border crossing with Turkey to try and capture it and cut off the embattled town of Kobani. The official, Idriss Nassan, says Islamic State fighters aim to seize the crossing in order to close the noose around the town’s Kurdish defenders and prevent anyone from entering or leaving Kobani. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the militants on Friday shelled several areas in Kobani, including the border crossing, which is the town’s only gateway to Turkey. Islamic State group this week pushed into Kobani for the first time since launching its offensive in the area in mid-September. Activists say the fighting over Kobani has killed more than 500 people. The US-led coalition intensified its aerial bombardment of Islamic State positions Thursday in the Syrian border town of Kobani as the extremist group fought street battles with Kurdish forces and reportedly rushed in reinforcements. Turkish officials have said that while they do not want Kobani to fall, they will not take on a greater role until the coalition outlines a broader strategy that also includes attacking Syrian President Bashar Assad, who is best positioned to benefit from any rollback of the Islamic State group. Turkey also has called for the creation of a buffer zone inside Syria to secure the border, but the White House and Pentagon said Wednesday the US is not considering that option. Such a zone would be costly and complex to enforce.

Iraq Headline: Islamic State fighters are threatening to overrun Iraq’s Anbar province
Islamic State militants are threatening to overrun a key province in western Iraq in what would be a major victory for the jihadists and an embarrassing setback for the U.S.-led coalition targeting the group. A win for the Islamic State in Anbar province would give the militants control of one of the country’s most important dams and several large army installations, potentially adding to their abundant stockpile of weapons. It would also allow them to establish a supply line from Syria almost to Baghdad and give them a valuable position from which to launch attacks on the Iraqi capital. The Islamic State’s offensive in Anbar has received less attention than its assault on the Syrian border city of Kobane, which has played out in view of news photographers standing on hills in nearby Turkey. But in recent weeks, Islamic State fighters have systematically invaded towns and villages in Anbar, besieged army posts and police stations, and mounted attacks on Iraqi troops in Ramadi, the provincial capital. “If the Islamic State controls Anbar, they would be able to threaten serious targets in Baghdad,” said an Iraqi security expert, Saeed al-Jayashi. “The government would lose the Haditha Dam, and the security forces would have to retreat,” he said. “There would be a blood bath.”

Headline: Car Bomb Kills One in Libya’s Benghazi
A car bomb killed one person and wounded another Friday in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi, hospital and military sources said, with neither the authors nor the motive immediately clear. The car blew up outside the Tibesti hotel in a square popular as a gathering place for demonstrations in support of Libya’s army, in a city almost entirely controlled by Islamists. There were no demonstrations planned on Friday. The oil-rich North African nation has been in turmoil since an uprising toppled longtime leader Moamer Kadhafi three years ago, with interim authorities facing powerful militias that fought to oust him. Benghazi was the cradle of the uprising, and is regularly the scene not only of fighting but also the murders of members of the security forces, political activists and journalists. At least 17 people have been killed this week in fighting for control of the airport, the last redoubt of forces loyal to a former general who launched a campaign against the Islamists in May.

Headline: At least 31 killed in Turkey ‘spiral of violence’
At least 31 people have been killed and 360 others injured in demonstrations during a four day “spiral of violence” led by pro-Kurdish protesters against Turkey’s policy on Syria, officials said Friday. But Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged that despite the violence, the authorities would press on with efforts to make peace with Kurdish rebels who have a waged a 30-year insurgency for self-rule in eastern Turkey. Interior Minister Efkan Ala told reporters that 31 people had been killed in the demonstrations, which left a trail of destruction and prompted the army to impose a curfew in parts of southeast Turkey. In addition, two policemen were shot dead in the southern city of Bingol late Thursday while inspecting the scene of a demonstration, he confirmed. Bingol province’s police chief was seriously wounded in the attack. Five “terrorists” suspected of gunning them down were themselves killed by the security forces, Ala added. “This spiral of violence should immediately be stopped,” he said in a statement in Ankara. “Everyone should do their part to put an end to these incidents. We should all stand in solidarity with each other.” Ala said that clashes broke out in 35 cities, and 221 civilians and 139 security officials including police were wounded. Over 1,000 people were detained and 58 people have formally been arrested for their involvement in the protests which caused damage to 212 schools, he said. The violence, which has been concentrated in south-eastern Turkey but also flared in Istanbul and Ankara, has been among the worst rioting seen in the country in years.

Headline: Indian Navy Puts Warships On High Alert Following Karachi’s Naval Dockyard Attack: Report
India’s navy is preparing for a terror attack by placing its warships on high alert following an attempt last month by al-Qaida’s South Asia wing to hijack a Pakistani navy frigate, The Indian Express reported Friday, citing military sources. The newly created group reportedly attempted to seize the Pakistani naval ship to fire rockets at U.S. vessels in the Arabian Sea. Indian naval commanders have been ordered to watch for any unusual movements by Pakistani warships operating in the Indian Ocean, sources told The Indian Express. They also reportedly said that commanders have been asked to guard against strikes involving boats equipped with explosives. “The Navy has repeatedly rehearsed for terror attacks on the high seas since 26/11… but the prospect that a Pakistani warship might go rogue and stage a sudden attack is a new order of threat altogether,” Commodore C Uday Bhaskar, a naval analyst said, according to The Indian Express. He was referring to the attacks of Nov. 26, 2008, on various high-profile targets in the city of Mumbai, including a Jewish synagogue. Earlier this month, a dossier released online showed al-Qaida claiming that the attack on the Karachi naval facility on Sept. 6 by one of their two assault teams was intended to capture PNS Aslat, a Chinese-made F-22 frigate inducted into the Pakistani navy last year.

Headline: North and South Korea ‘exchange land border fire’
North and South Korea have exchanged fire across their land border, South Korean officials say. The incident came as South Korean activists launched balloons containing leaflets condemning North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Pyongyang had warned of “catastrophic” consequences if Seoul allowed the activists to go ahead. The two sides exchange periodic fire across their disputed western maritime border but incidents on land are rare. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, citing military officials, said the North fired towards the balloons and South Korea responded after some shots landed south of the border. There was no immediate information on whether there were any casualties. Initial reports spoke of artillery fire but Reuters news agency, citing Defence Ministry officials, said that it was gunfire that was exchanged.

Headline: Fears of global Ebola outbreak spread across continents
Headline: Ebola is ‘entrenched and accelerating’ in West Africa
Headline: Ebola toll passes 4,000, says World Health Organization
Fears of a global Ebola outbreak spread yesterday as French officials sealed off a building with 60 people inside, an Australian nurse was tested for the disease and airplane cleaners went on strike in New York. In France, police imposed a lock-down on a social services centre in a town near Paris after four people who arrived from Guinea this month fell ill with headaches and fever. Officials in Cergy Pontoise, northwest of the capital, later said that the fears that the four were suffering from Ebola were a false alarm and the nearly 60 others inside were allowed to leave. But the drastic reaction of the authorities in France, which has not reported any cases of Ebola, indicated the scale of concerns gripping officials across several continents. There were also fears that the disease may have reached the far side of the world after an Australian nurse who treated Ebola patients while working for the International Red Cross in Sierra Leone developed a fever following her return. More than 8,000 people in West Africa have so far officially been diagnosed with Ebola and the fatality rate is nearly 50 per cent. But the World Health Organisation believes that the true tally of infected and dead is much higher. Meanwhile, the first trial of an Ebola vaccine in Africa started in Mali with the vaccination of three health care workers The vaccine, one of several now being tested, was developed at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a consortium led by the University of Maryland is carrying out the trial.

Headline: Super Typhoon Vongfong: Japan Braces For Strongest Storm Of The Year As It Moves North
Japan is bracing for its strongest storm of the year, super Typhoon Vongfong, which is moving north with the threat of strong winds and torrential rain, media reports said Friday. The super typhoon is reportedly following the path of the deadly Typhoon Phanfone, which reportedly claimed the lives of more than nine people in Japan on Monday. Vongfong is reportedly expected to make landfall on Okinawa, an island chain about 1,000 miles southwest of Tokyo, on late Saturday or early Sunday, BBC reported. The typhoon is reportedly carrying winds up to 160 miles per hour. Vongfong, which has been labeled a Category 4 typhoon by Tropical Storm Risk, which predicts storms worldwide, is expected to weaken to a Category 3 storm by Saturday and to Category 1 before hitting the western island of Kyushu on Sunday, Reuters reported. “There is no question that it is an extremely large, extremely powerful typhoon,” an official at Japan’s Meteorological Agency, or JMA, told Reuters. “It’s the strongest storm we’ve had this year, definitely, although it has lost some strength from its peak.”
