Headline: Hundreds Protest “Apartheid on the Temple Mount”
Tuesday evening, Temple Mount Heritage Foundation founder and activist Rabbi Yehudah Glick led a demonstration at the Dung Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem protesting the recent closures of the Temple Mount to non-Muslims during the Ramadan holiday. The Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, along with several other groups and organizations working to increase access on the Temple Mount, decided to hold a peaceful demonstration to protest the most recent closure of the Temple Mount, which will be lifted when Ramadan ends on July 17. The decision was made following several incidents of Muslims harassing Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount. Ramadan is known as a time of increased violence across Israel, and this year was no exception. After several terrorist attacks across the country couples with a rise in unrest on the Temple Mount, including Muslims following, shouting at and threatening Jewish visitors, the police decided to shut down the source of the disturbance – Jewish prayer. Despite the peaceful nature of the rally, the Israeli police made several attempts to stop it from happening, first seeking to ban it entirely. However, attorneys for Temple Mount rights groups successfully appealed to the Israeli High Court, which ruled that the police could not stop the protesters from expressing themselves.

Headline: Netanyahu’s bid to lobby Congress to kill Iran deal will fail, Obama says
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s anticipated efforts to lobby Congress to derail the Iranian nuclear agreement will fail, US President Barack Obama told New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman on Tuesday. The president spoke to Friedman as part of his public relations campaign to rally support for the Iran agreement, which has been subject to scathing criticism from the Israeli government and its sympathizers in the United States. “Prime Minister Netanyahu would prefer, and many of the critics would prefer, that [Iran] doesn’t even have any nuclear capacity,” Obama told The New York Times. “But really, what that involves is eliminating the presence of knowledge inside of Iran.” “[P]erhaps [Netanyahu] thinks he can further influence the congressional debate, and I’m confident we’re going to be able to uphold this deal and implement it without Congress preventing that,” the president told Friedman.

Headline: NSA file reveals Israel behind 2008 assassination of Syrian general ***Before even reading this article, what are chances that this NSA report “just happened” to come out the day after the Iran nuke deal??
Israel’s elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 was behind the assassination of Syrian General Muhammad Suleiman in 2008, The Intercept reports, citing classified NSA documents. According to the report, the American intelligence agency learned of the operation by monitoring communications signals of the Israel Defense Forces. The files are among those revealed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, The Intercept reports, and provide the first official confirmation that the IDF was behind Suleiman’s assassination. After shooting the Syrian general in the head and neck while he was hosting a dinner party at his seaside weekend home near Tartus, Syria, the report says, the Israeli naval commandos escaped via the sea. A top-secret entry in the NSA’s internal version of Wikipedia, called Intellipedia, says the assassination, is the “first known instance of Israel targeting a legitimate government official,” the report says.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi said Wednesday a historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers is a first step to ridding the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction. The head of the Cairo-based pan-Arab bloc expressed hopes the accord reached on Tuesday would usher in “stability and security” in the volatile region, according to AFP. Arabi also called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to declare that it has nuclear facilities. The nuclear deal struck between Iran and six world powers in Vienna was a “first step to free the Middle East from weapons of mass destruction,” he said in a statement. “It’s time for the international community… to stop its policy of double standards and to undertake its responsibilities by pressuring Israel to join the non-proliferation agreement as a non-nuclear state,” he added.

Headline: What Each of the US Jewish Organizations Are Saying About the Iran Deal
We know the Iran deal is bad. How bad it is is we all may be spending the rest of our lives finding out. That is, unless enough members of Congress are able to inject sufficient spine-strengthening and -straightening serum to override President Barack Obama’s already promised veto of any effort to derail the deal. So let’s take a stroll through the playground of American Jewish organizations and see what they have to say about the proposed deal which allows many of the things American leaders swore would not be permitted and forbids many of the things that were promised would be included. Most of the major Jewish organizations either blasted the agreement with Iran or punted, assuming a wait and see stance. However, one “pro-Israel, pro-peace” outfit was thrilled with the deal. More on that in the body of the article. Here they are, summaries of the statements on the Iran deal issued by American Jewish organizations. In alphabetical order.

“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” (Psalm 83)

Headline: Jordan defends Jerusalem Islamic names at UNESCO
The Cabinet on Tuesday reviewed the outcomes of the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Bonn, Germany, between June 28 and July 8, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. During the UNESCO’s session, the committee adopted a draft resolution on Jerusalem proposed by Jordan, the custodian of the holy places in Jerusalem, and Palestine. UNESCO, under the decision, recognises the use of both Al Aqsa Mosque and and Al Haram Al Sharif as synonyms in all relevant literature. In a report submitted to the panel in March this year, both Jordan and Palestine slammed Israel for “attempts to befog the religious historic Muslim exclusive right and identification by forced use of un-Islamic names such as ‘The Temple Mount’ as part of the Judaisation policy enforced by the Israeli occupying power of the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem”. The draft resolution also considered Bab Al Magharbeh, a main gate of the holy city, as part of Al Aqsa Mosque, and endorsed the term Al Buraq Plaza, which the Israelis call Wailing Wall Plaza. Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour stressed the importance of the resolution and called for committing to using these terms when addressing other countries, Petra reported.

Headline: Syrian army, Hezbollah advance in city near Lebanese border
The Syrian army backed by Lebanese ally Hezbollah has advanced deeper into the besieged Syrian city of Zabadani two weeks into a campaign to capture it from insurgents, rebels and the army said. The control of the city, about 45 km (30 miles) northwest of the capital Damascus, is seen as crucial to consolidate government-held areas linking Lebanon and Syria. Zabadani is a former popular resort on the main Beirut-Damascus highway. Hezbollah militiamen and the army, aided by reinforcements, advanced closer to Zabadani’s center under cover of heavy artillery fire and intense aerial bombardments of insurgent hideouts, rebels and the army said. Footage released by the Syrian army showed troops in the heart of the southeastern district of Sultani, the focus of street fighting. Rebels said some 500 families were still inside Zabadani and had taken shelter but the city was mostly deserted. Its capture would be a strategic gain for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose army is battling on several other fronts with groups including non-jihadist rebels and hardline Islamic State militants. A victory over the rebels would also secure a corridor for Hezbollah to transport fighters and arms. The Shi’ite Muslim group’s military role inside Syria has been growing steadily since the start of the conflict in 2011. Rebels contacted by phone said although they had lost some ground in parts of the city in the last few days, they have so far repulsed advances deeper inside their stronghold.

Headline: Obama discusses Iran deal with Saudi King Salman
Headline: Saudi media attack Iran deal as assault on Arab interests
President Barack Obama telephoned Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Tuesday from Air Force One to discuss the newly completed Iran nuclear agreement, the White House said. Saudi Arabia expressed hope Tuesday for an end to Iran’s regional “interference” after a historic nuclear deal aimed at ensuring Tehran does not obtain an atomic bomb was struck. “Given that Iran is a neighbor, Saudi Arabia hopes to build with her better relations in all areas on the basis of good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs,” said an official spokesman cited by the Saudi Press Agency. Both leaders also discussed the urgent need to stop the fighting in Yemen and ensure assistance for all Yemenis through international humanitarian channels. Obama also spoke with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan by telephone to discuss the nuclear agreement. Following the calls, it was revealed that the U.S. president is sending his defense chief next week to the Middle East to reassure reassuring allies that the nuclear deal will not undermine America’s commitment to their security. U.S. defense officials told Reuters that Defense Secretary Ash Carter would travel to Israel and elsewhere within the region but declined to offer details.

Syria Headline: Syrian Rebel Leader Killed in Double Suicide Bombing
A senior member of the Syrian Ahrar al-Sham rebel group was killed along with six other fighters on Tuesday in a double suicide bombing in northwestern Syria, a monitor said. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was believed to have been carried out by a group linked to ISIS. The Britain-based monitor said seven members of Ahrar al-Sham, a conservative Islamist rebel group, were killed in the blast near the town of Salqin. Among them was Abu Abdel Rahman Salqin, described by Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman as “one of Ahrar al-Sham’s most senior leaders.” Ahrar al-Sham is one of the most powerful rebel groups in northern Syria and belongs to an alliance with Al Waeda affiliate Al Nusra Front that has seized most of Idlib province in recent months.

Syria Headline: 13 civilians killed in regime air raids
Thirteen civilians, among them seven children, were killed in aerial attacks by Syria’s government Wednesday on the northern province of Aleppo, a monitoring group said. “A woman and her three children, as well as another child, were killed when helicopters dropped a barrel bomb on the village of Taduf,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Taduf, which lies in the northeast of Syria’s Aleppo province, is controlled by Daesh. In the province’s west, “eight civilians, including three children, were killed when regime warplanes struck the village of Daret Izza,” held by Islamist fighters and other rebels. “Regime forces are continuing to kill civilians through aerial attacks, with barrel bombs or shells, indifferent to the international resolutions on this matter,” said Observatory head Rami Abdul Rahman. He said the attacks amounted to “war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by regime forces on a daily basis.” The regime has stepped up air attacks in Aleppo province in recent days, killing at least 57 civilians when it dropped “container bombs” on the Daesh-held town of Al Bab at the weekend.

Iraq Headline: Car bomb kills at least 5 in Iraq town of Khalis
A car bomb blast claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group killed at least five people in the Iraqi town of Khalis Tuesday, officials said. The blast, which the top provincial official in Khalis said occurred outside a reputed local doctor’s house, also left at least 11 wounded. ISIS said in a claim posted on jihadi forums that the explosion targeted members of Hashed al-Shaabi, an umbrella organization for mostly Shiite militias which has been playing a leading role in the anti-ISIS fightback. Khalis lies around 60 kilometers (35 miles) north of Baghdad in Diyala, a province which the government declared free of ISIS militants in January.

Headline: MIDDLE EAST SECURITY REPORT July 2015- ISIS’S GLOBAL STRATEGY: A WARGAME
The United States currently faces multiple national security threats in an environment of growing disorder. ISIS is executing a sophisticated global strategy that involves simultaneous efforts in Iraq and Syria, the Middle East and North Africa, and the wider world. Homegrown terrorism is increasing in the U.S. and Europe. Civil wars are intensifying in Ukraine, Yemen, and Libya, while the U.S. attempts to pivot to the Asia-Pacific. In this complex environment, it is difficult for policymakers to discern the consequences of action or inaction even in the near future. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) conducted simulation exercises on February 27 and March 16, 2015 to discover the diplomatic and military opportunities and pitfalls likely to arise in the coming months of the counter-ISIS fight. Several developments that ISW predicted during the simulation have already occurred. Identifying these scenarios and opportunities in advance can enable the U.S. and its allies to make better-informed decisions in the long-term. ISW’s simulation focused on possible outcomes of ISIS’s regional activity. The anti-ISIS coalition is currently focused on ISIS only within Iraq and Syria. Therefore the U.S. is vulnerable to strategic surprise resulting from ISIS’s external activity. ISIS has the potential to pressure and divert allies that are critical to the U.S.-led coalition’s efforts, while continuing its own expansion program. Simulating the effects of ISIS’s endeavor in advance revealed insights that will assist in the creation of a coherent counter-ISIS strategy, rather than a piecemeal strategy formulated as crises occur.

Headline: NATO plans biggest exercise since 2002 to counter Islamic State
NATO and its allies will hold their biggest military exercise in more than a decade from October, deploying 36,000 personnel across the Mediterranean to counter the threat of Islamic State on the alliance’s southern flank. Briefly turning attention away from Russia, NATO commanders said on Wednesday the alliance would carry out some of its toughest training yet in a complex “artificial threat scenario” in which militants attack on land, from the air and at sea. “We cannot choose between the eastern threat and the southern threat, we have to train for both,” said General Hans-Lothar Domrose, commander of the NATO military command in Brunssum, the Netherlands, who is preparing the exercise. After more than a decade of NATO-led combat operations in Afghanistan, the U.S.-led military alliance is shifting to defend its territory. More than 30 countries – including non-NATO nations such as Sweden and Austria – will take part in the exercises in Italy, Spain, Portugal and in the Mediterranean from Oct. 3 to Nov. 6. Much of NATO’s focus has been on what it sees as an increasingly hostile Russia, but the rise of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is a central concern. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has warned the Arab Spring uprisings have ushered in a “brutal winter” of instability.

Headline: ‘ISIS will benefit’ from the Iran nuclear deal
The United States and other world powers struck a landmark deal with Iran over its nuclear program this week, and the agreement might benefit one group that the US hadn’t counted on — the Islamic State. Hassan Hassan, an associate fellow at the think tank Chatham House and co-author of the recent book “ISIS: Inside The Army of Terror,” told The Wall Street Journal that the nuclear deal could make already-disaffected Sunnis feel even more like the US and Iran are conspiring against them. “ISIS will benefit a lot from this deal; segments of the Sunni community in the region will see Iran as having won and brought in from the dark,” Hassan said. The Islamic State (also known as ISIS, ISIL, and Daesh), a Sunni terror group, already capitalises on Sunni grievances for recruitment and support. ISIS presents itself as the sole protector of Sunni populations in Iraq and Syria, where Shiite-aligned regimes dominate.

Headline: Turkey hopes for revived post-sanctions trade with Iran
Turkey hopes for improved trade with neighbor Iran following the lifting of international sanctions, a presidential spokesman said on Wednesday. “Iran is an important neighbor to us and an important trade partner,” Ibrahim Kalin told reporters in Ankara. “We hope that relief for the Iranian economy will lead to improved trade relations for Turkey and Iran.” According to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, Turkey exports machinery, motor vehicles, iron and steel products to Iran while its crude oil and natural gas account for 90 percent of imports. Trade volume between the two countries stood at $10.7 billion in 2010. Under a nuclear deal reached on Tuesday between Iran and six world powers, economic sanctions are to be lifted in return for restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program. Kalin, a former senior advisor to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, described the agreement as an “important step” in removing the nuclear weapons from the Middle East. He added: “The realization of the agreement depends on the implementation of the provisions and the sustainability of the agreement depends on the will of the parties. We will be the supporter of this.”

The White House dispatched Vice President Joe Biden to Capitol Hill Wednesday to sell Democrats on the newly announced Iran nuclear deal, as several influential members voiced reservations about giving it their seal of approval in a vital vote this fall. Biden was meeting first with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, though the tougher lift may be on the Senate side. In the aftermath of the deal announcement in Vienna, senior Democratic senators made clear they were withholding judgment. “We’re basically legitimizing Iran’s nuclear program,” Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., told Fox News, voicing concerns about what Tehran gets in return, including the likely lifting of an arms embargo and leverage over the timing of certain nuclear inspections. “At the end of the day, the challenge here is that 10 to 12 years from now, does Iran have a pathway towards a full industrial-sized nuclear program and the possibility of breaking out to a weapon? And if so, all you’ve done is delayed the question of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.”

New data shows that America’s war in Afghanistan is costing taxpayers roughly $4 million an hour, despite the Obama administration’s drawdown of troops leaving only 10,000 soldiers in the country. Despite the colossal cost, the Obama administration and Afghan leadership both recognize the war will only end with peace negotiations, according to observers. More than $700 billion has been spent on the Afghan war since the George W. Bush administration authorized the invasion in 2001, including more than $35 billion in fiscal year 2015, according to figures from the National Priorities Project, a non-profit, non-partisan federal budget research group.

Headline: Libya blames U.N. for hampering bid to fight ISIS
Headline: Libyan army commander killed in Benghazi battle
Libya accused the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday of hampering its terrorism fight, while the U.N. envoy to Libya said the growing threat of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) could only be tackled once warring parties agree on a government of national unity. Libyan U.N. Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi complained that the Security Council Libya sanctions committee had not responded to its March request to import weapons, tanks, jets and helicopters to take on ISIS militants and monitor its borders. “The committee has indirectly contributed to continuing instability, as well as entrenching terrorism in Libya,” he told the council. “There is premeditated hampering of the efforts of the Libyan government to strengthen its capacity to combat terrorism and to extend its authority to all Libyan territory.”

Luke 21:9 and Matthew 24:7 speak of nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom in the end times. Revelation 6:3-4 speaks of the fiery red horse given power to make men slay one another and Revelation 6:8 speaks again of this red horse in conjunction with the pale horse of Death and Hades, as the one that has the power to kill by sword. Luke 21:9: wars & commotions; the Greek word here is Akatastasia, meaning instability, a state of disorder, disturbance, confusion (revolutions) Matthew 24:7: the Greek word for nation is Ethnos & refers to various ethnic groups fighting among themselves, where the next sentence in the verse refers to kingdoms (basileiva) fighting one another (not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom)
Headline: Volunteer watchdog group dispatches to western states to monitor ‘Jade Helm’
A controversial U.S. military training exercise known as “Operation Jade Helm” rolls out this week across several southwestern states — but a group of wary citizen watchdogs will be keeping an eye on them. Pete Lanteri, a former Marine now living in Arizona, told FoxNews.com that volunteer members he’s helped organize will be on the ground as part of a newly formed surveillance campaign called “Counter Jade Helm.” A product of mounting suspicions across western states over the exercise itself, the group has been set up to locate, track and observe U.S. soldiers – Green Berets, Air Force Special Ops, Navy SEALs — training across the Southwest. The three-month military exercise kicks off Wednesday. Lanteri played down the notion that the “counter” campaign could lead to conflict. “We’re not paranoid tin-hat wearing freaks,” Lanteri told FoxNews.com. “We’re not going to be out there confronting people or holding signs.” Rather, Lanteri and his volunteers will be in plain clothes, in plain sight and armed with only cell phones and video cameras, he says. He plans to travel to central Texas over the weekend to help kick off the “Counter Jade Helm” project. He said California, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi, Florida and Utah also are among the states participating in the counter-missions; there have been conflicting reports about which specific states Jade Helm will be in, though the operation appears to concentrate in the Southwest.

Headline: At least 30 dead in triple Islamist attack in NE Nigeria
Boko Haram insurgents raided a border town in Nigeria’s Borno state, and attacked another village in the same state, killing at least 12 people, a witness and military and vigilante sources said on Wednesday. The militants attacked Damasak, a few kilometers from the Niger border, at around 4:30 am local time (0330 GMT) on Tuesday, a military and a vigilante leader in Maiduguri said. Chadian troops backed by soldiers from Niger freed the town from Boko Haram earlier this year but the militants have attacked it several times since, the last time in late March. Nigerien and Nigerian security sources said that troops from the joint taskforce had recently withdrawn from the town. “They came in Hilux vehicles (pickup trucks) and motorcycles, set fire to all the houses but all the residents have fled the town since last weekend when troops from the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) were withdrawing to Niger,” said a Nigerian vigilante leader who declined to be named. Meanwhile, At least 30 people were killed in three attacks by Islamists in northeastern Nigeria, local officials and inhabitants said Wednesday. The three assaults were carried out simultaneously Tuesday. In the deadliest, over 20 were killed outside Ngamdu, a local legislator, Mohammad Sando, told AFP.

Headline: AQAP Claims Killing Over 20 Houthis in 10 Attacks in Yemen
Pro-government fighters in south Yemen seized Aden’s airport on Tuesday as they launched a new offensive supported by Saudi-led warplanes and ships against Iran-backed militias, military sources said. The fighters from the Popular Resistance also pushed back the Houthi militias and their allies from areas within the war-torn port city, the sources said. Warships off the coast of Aden took part in the battle which a presidential official said was part of a new military campaign to regain control of all of the city. Exiled President Abedrabbu Mansour Hadi is “personally supervising the operation” dubbed “Operation Golden Arrow for the Liberation of Aden,” said his office director Mohammed Marem from Aden. Soldiers of the 39th Armored Brigade had captured Aden’s airport on March 25 after switching allegiance to the Houthi militias. The Houthi militias and their allies have since gone on to seize the presidential palace and other parts of Aden, the second largest city in Yemen and its main sea port.Retaking the airport of Aden is the first significant achievement for pro-Hadi fighters since the embattled president fled the port city late March due to an all-out rebel offensive.

Headline: Ukraine’s Poroshenko says ‘illegal groups’ must disarm after standoff
Headline: Right Sector activists arrested in connection with western Ukrainian shootout
President Petro Poroshenko ordered Ukraine’s security services and police on Monday to disarm “illegal groups”, saying they threatened to further destabilise a country fighting separatists in its east. Poroshenko said a weekend standoff between members of a far-right group and police in the western town of Mukacheve, close to the border with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, was simply a turf war over smuggling routes. But he appeared to take aim at Right Sector, which played a prominent role in protests that toppled Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovich last year, saying no political force should operate armed cells in Ukraine and run “criminal cells”. The far-right nationalist group demanded the resignation of the interior minister at the weekend after two of its members were killed in a firefight with police in Mukacheve, where it said it was set upon by police. The Interior Ministry said the group shot first. Poroshenko said in a statement there needed to be a tough investigation into the events there and that the Interior Ministry, security services and other law enforcement officials must disarm “all illegal armed groups”. “No political force should have and will not have any kind of armed cells. No political organisation has the right to establish…criminal groups,” Poroshenko said. Poroshenko said last week the flow of arms from the conflict with pro-Russian separatists in the east increased the risk of serious crime in Ukraine, where corruption flourished under Yanukovich and where the authorities are under fire for not reforming the justice system quickly enough.

Headline: UK to block Greece short-term funding solution
Greece missed the second debt payment to the International Monetary Fund in two weeks, despite having reached agreement with official creditors on a new bailout program earlier in the day. Athens was supposed to remit about 456 million euros ($500 million) to the crisis lender by 2200 GMT, but it had not been expected to make the payment after missing a 1.5-billion-euro debt payment to the Fund on June 30. Greece’s arrears to the IMF now total about 2.0 billion euros, said spokesman Gerry Rice in a statement confirming the missed payment. When it first defaulted at the end of June, the IMF froze Greece’s access to its resources, including the Fund’s ongoing financing program for the country. Athens asked the IMF for a rare extension of the repayment period, which was not ruled on at the time. “The request by the Greek authorities for an extension of the repayment obligation due on June 30th is expected to be discussed by the Executive Board in the coming weeks,” said Rice.

Headline: Boy Scouts of America votes to end ban on gay adults
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has unanimously approved a resolution to end the organisation’s ban on gay adults working as leaders. The group’s national executive board will meet to ratify the resolution on 27 July, the Boy Scouts said in a statement. It is a major step towards ending a policy that has caused deep rifts in the group, which was set up in 1910. In 2013, the BSA ended a ban allowing openly gay boys to become scouts. Earlier this year, former US defence secretary Robert Gates, who is BSA president, told the group’s national meeting that the ban on gay adults needed to end, saying it was no longer sustainable. The selection of Mr Gates as president in 2014 was seen as an opportunity to revisit the policy since he helped end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that barred openly gay people from serving in the US military. The resolution, which was passed by the BSA’s 17-member executive committee on Friday, will become official policy if it is ratified by the 80-member executive board later this month. It will allow scout units to set their own policy on the issue and mean they can select adult leaders without regard to sexual orientation.

Headline: Japan battles heat wave as 3 confirmed dead, hundreds hospitalized
Three people are dead and more than 800 hospitalized after a heat wave took over various parts of Japan on Tuesday. Nearly a week has passed since temperatures surpassed 95 degrees Fahrenheit, The Japan Times reported. A 92-year-old man was found collapsed in a field on Tuesday afternoon, in a town in western Tokyo and later confirmed dead at a hospital. Between July 6 and July 12, more than 3,000 people were taken to hospitals to be treated for heat exhaustion, Japan Today reported. On Tuesday the Japan Meteorological Agency reported average temperatures in Japan soared from 86 to 95 degrees at 550 of its 928 monitoring locations. Some areas experienced hotter weather than others. Tatebayashi in Gunma Prefecture reported the country’s highest temperature at 102.74 degrees, followed by 100 degrees in Fukushima City, and 97.34 degrees in Kyoto. Four schoolchildren were hospitalized after falling ill while playing soccer at a Tokyo elementary school but Japan press reported they were not in serious condition.

Headline: Dolores rapidly strengthens to category 4 hurricane
Hurricane Dolores is rapidly strengthening to a category 4 hurricane off Mexico’s Pacific coast, with maximum sustained winds increasing to near 130 mph (209 kph), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday. The storm, now at the second-highest hurricane classification category, was about 320 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and moving west-northwest at 7 mph. Swells generated by Dolores are affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern coast of the Baja California peninsula, the NHC said. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, it said.

Headline:Nuke Deal Fact Sheet from the State Department in April – to compare with the nuke deal today
There was a report released on July 6, 2015 by Christianity Today with this headline: “The Epidemic of Bible Illiteracy in Our Churches” When you read that report you will understand better what Jesus meant in Luke 18:8. I quote Jesus in verse 8. “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Why did Jesus say this? Matthew 24 37-38 helps us to understand what Jesus was saying in Noah’s generation were Godless people so it stands to reason that the people during Noah’s generation did not read the early writing from Moses and the Prophets that followed after Moses nor believe what their writings said if they did read it. Could people who call themselves Christian’s today end up like the people in Noah’s generation having no faith? Paul stated in Romans 10:17 the following: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If Christians never read the word of God how can faith grow and if faith doesn’t grow what happens? Timothy 4:3 has the answer. I quote, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears”. Can people who call themselves Christians and not follow sound doctrine end up like the lawlessness people of Noah’s generation? The answer is yes. Take a look at what Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” The Bible shows us the day is coming when the Lord will come back for the true believers in Christ but, many who call themselves Christians will be turned away. Who are the so called Christians that Jesus says “I never knew you”? Could they be the ones who really don’t follow Christ, never read His word, never fellowship, never pray, nor keep on the watch for His second coming as He commanded us to do? Only Jesus knows who these people are and by the looks of what I read from the stats in the Christianity Today report there will be many such people.
Stats from a new study from the Christianity Today reveal the same thing is happening to our generation that happened in Noah’s and Lot’s generation. I quote, “Christians claim to believe the Bible is God’s Word. We claim it’s God’s divinely inspired, inerrant message to us. Yet despite this, we aren’t reading it. A recent LifeWay Research study found only 45 percent of those who regularly attend church read the Bible more than once a week. Over 40 percent of the people attending read their Bible occasionally, maybe once or twice a month. Almost 1 in 5 churchgoers say they never read the Bible—essentially the same number who read it every day. Because we don’t read God’s Word, it follows that we don’t know it. To understand the effects, we can look to statistics of another Western country: the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom Bible Society surveyed British children and found many could not identify common Bible stories. When given a list of stories, almost 1 in 3 didn’t choose the Nativity as part of the Bible and over half (59 percent) didn’t know that Jonah being swallowed by the great fish is in the Bible.” “But it’s more than simply not knowing stories from Scripture. Our lack of biblical literacy has led to a lack of biblical doctrine. LifeWay Research found that while 67 percent of Americans believe heaven is a real place, 45 percent believe there are many ways to get there—including 1 in 5 evangelical Christians. More than half of evangelicals (59 percent) believe the Holy Spirit is a force and not a personal being—in contrast to the orthodox biblical teaching of the Trinity being three Persons in one God. As a whole, Americans, including many Christians, hold unbiblical views on hell, sin, salvation, Jesus, humanity, and the Bible itself.” (Christianity Today July 6, 2015). It’s no wonder our world is falling apart. As people leave sound doctrine faith begins to disappear and as faith disappears what replaces it? The answer is sound in what Jesus said, “‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! (Matthew 7:23). We know that the lawlessness people will not enter God’s kingdom and, since Jesus in Luke 18:8 shows us there will be almost no faith when He returns we know there is going to be millions of people who think they are Christians who will be seen as the rest of the Lawless people who aren’t Christians. So in these last days it would be wise to examine one’s self to see if in fact you are really following Christ or are you as one of the Pharisees? I quote Matthew 23:27. “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but are within full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness”. There are many people who I call the pretenders of the faith. These people are just like the scribes and Pharisees who saw Jesus face to face. These people only appeared to be righteous but as you can see from what Jesus stated they were not. Again it would be wise to keep what Jesus said in Matthew 5:20 close to your heart. I quote, “I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
I am sure this type of message will not be preached from the pulpits in many churches but for those pastors who truly love Jesus they will be the ones who are not afraid to speak the truth. For many of you this message will not be received well however, I am not here to try and please you I am here to tell you the things Jesus has given us. You may believe what Jesus said or you may not that will depend on the true nature of your heart. If it is for Christ in its fullness you will receive what He said if not than you just may be as one of the scribes or Pharisees Jesus pointed to. I suggest you read the entire article.

A few days ago the Temple Mount Institute had revealed they were planning to make an important announcement. The date they gave for this important announcement was July 12, 2015. Well July 12, 2015 theTemple Mount Institute made their announcement. There were many web sites that tried to figure out what this announcement would be. I think the most asked question was, are the people at the Temple Mount Institute going to tell the world they are going to begin building the Third Temple? If they did, that would really be an important event as this is exactly what Jesus said would happen in the last days. However, the announcement rather had to do with a red heifer which the Jews need in order to complete their sacrificial services that will start up again as prophesied.
For those of you who don’t know the importance of seeing a pure red heifer being born let’s look at the red heifer first. According to Numbers 19:2, you must have a red heifer that has no imperfections. Otherwise, you could not use the heifer for temple sacrifices. By “Imperfections,” it means there cannot be any hairs on the heifer other than red. If one hair of another color is found on the heifer, the animal cannot be used in the sacrifices. The red heifer can not do any work either or that would disqualify it. Over the years the Temple Mount Institute has seen red heifers that look like they would meet all of the requirements but, for one reason or another these red heifers were disqualified.
Let me show you in red what I wrote in my book about two such red heifers that were disqualified.
Guess what? A pure red heifer has shown up! I quote, “One of the biblical conditions for the rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem may have perhaps been met recently when a red heifer was discovered in the United States. In January a red heifer, or Parah Adumah, was born to a cow herding family in an undisclosed location in the US, who wish to see the animal used for the purity service during the preparations for the rebuilding of the Third Temple. The family has reportedly not marred or maimed the animal in any way, nor will they be using the animal for work or feeding it any growth hormones. All this to comply with Jewish law of keeping the animal as nature created it. Rabbi Richman says that the people who own this animal and who are raising it are going to great pains to make sure that this red heifer will be useable for the ceremony. “She won’t be branded, tagged, or used for any work, the plan is to watch her, and take care of her, and The Temple Institute is very thankful to those raising her, as everything is being done with extreme sensitivity and respect to the requirements of the raising of the red heifer according to the Torah of Israel as described in Numbers 19, and expounded upon in Jewish tradition,” he stated. Richman explained why the appearance of this red heifer, as opposed to others over the years, is creating such a stir.” “We are all excited about this one and watching this one. For there is a tradition that there were nine perfect red heifers that were used throughout history, and that the 10th would usher in the messianic era, and the rebuilding of the Third Temple,” he added” (Israel News June 29, 2014). Since there is only a handful of prophecies left to be fulfilled, we expect to see one of these pure red heifer brought out by the people at the Temple Institute shortly. Very little information has been reported about the pure red heifer and for good reason. Just the thought of a pure red heifer upsets the Arabs. The Arabs know if a red heifer were to be exposed to Israel, the people of Israel would want to build their Third Temple right away. This one red heifer could be the cause of another Middle East war and possibly World War III.
The red heifer born in the United States.
On March 25, 2015 there was more news about another red heifer reported by THE DAILY NEWSPAPEROF TORAH JEWRY. A photo of this red heifer is below. “News of what appears to be a parah adumah, fully red cow, on a small farm just outside of Lakewood has been attracting increasing attention. Interest has been heightened by her rapidly approaching second birthday, at which point the cow would become permissible for this extremely rare halachic phenomenon. “Somebody from Brooklyn called and offered me one million dollars for her, but I told him that she’s not for sale. This is a gift from Hashem,” said owner Herbert Celler. “When he asked me what I’m going to do with her, I told him that I’m going to be the first in line when Moshiach comes.” A parah adumah, or red heifer, is necessary to produce the ash needed for the ritual purification process, essential to performing the service in the Beis Hamikdash.” Herbert Celler has stated he plans to give the red heifer to the Jewish people as a gift.
News broke just recently via Israel News that this red heifer in New Jersey was also disqualified for Temple Service. I quote, “The Red Heifer that was found in New Jersey in 2013 and made known only a few months ago was disqualified on Wednesday morning when it gave birth to a baby black calf. Pregnancy and and the subsequent birthing disqualifies the cow from ritual use according to the Jewish legal guidelines set out by Maimonides in the 12th century. This is the second cow in as many years to be disqualified from being a qualified as a red heifer.”
For those of us who believe in Jesus Christ the appearance of a true red heifer would be the step in seeing the Jews rebuild their Third Temple. This is one of the worse things that could ever happen. Why? Because what that would mean is the Antichrist will also appear shortly. We are told by Christ when the Temple is rebuilt this Antichrist would be going into the rebuilt Temple and claim to be the true Messiah however, after a period of 3 1/2 years the Antichrist would stop the Jewish sacrifices and at that point he would show the Jews and the world his true colors as the man of sin. Jesus warned us about this Antichrist in Daniel chapter 9. It will be at this 3 1/2 year mark that the Antichrist will start to fulfill the prophecy in Zechariah 13:8 where the Antichrist will kill 2/3 of all the Jews. If Jews don’t believe in Jesus hopefully they will believe in their prophets Daniel and Zechariah because the appearance of a red heifer may seem as a blessing to them but, it will be a curse as the real Messiah already was sacrificed from their sins almost 2,000 year ago. As for me I pray the appearance of the red heifer is far off because of my love for the Jews. I do not wish to see another man who will attempt to do what Hitler did during world war II. Hitler killed 7 million Jews but the Antichrist will wipe out two thirds of the Jews so, how in the world would the appearance of a red heifer be good news? The sad thing is, the religious men during Jesus’ time refused to believe Christ as the Son of God and, the true Messiah. Because the Jews during Jesus’ first coming did not accept Christ as the Messiah Paul the Apostle in Romans 11:25 tells us the following: “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.” It is for this reason that today most Jews still do not see the light that Jesus Christ was and still is Israel’s true Messiah. This my friends is in part why the Jews will in fact finally get to see a pure red heifer and rebuild their Third Temple! Jesus is allowing these things to take place so in the end the Jews will finally look upon Jesus as their one and true (Savior). The bottom line is this. The Jews will get their true red heifer which will begin the push to rebuild the Temple and no one can stop the appearance of the Antichrist after the red heifer is born. These prophecies have to occur if the second appearance of Jesus Christ is to come.
So, I ask you this question. Would you like to prolong this red heifer and the rebuilding of the Third Temple or, say to the Jews go for it and let us see the final prophecies come to pass so the Church and finally go home to be with our loving Lord? I will let each of you in your own heart answer this question. As for me, I will be praying for the delay in the hope that their will be more Jews in Israel who see Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Only Jesus knows when Israel will tell the world a pure red heifer is born. However, this I know, one is coming and so is Jesus!!!
Headline: Netanyahu Refuses to Expand Judea and Samaria
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu admitted that he has no plans to expand Judea and Samaria on Monday, and indeed plans to keep the de facto building freeze unofficially instituted over the past two years. During a meeting on the subject, the Mayor of Beit El, Shay Alon, interrupted Netanyahu and asked about the destruction of several buildings slated for Beit El in about two weeks. Netanyahu replied to Alon that the State must respect the High Court for Justice’s ruling on the subject in favor of the demolition. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon also added his opinion to the discussion. “You knew full well that the Ulpana neighborhood was started as a network of illegally-built houses,” Ya’alon fired, adding the the current round of buildings slated for demolition were also started this way. “Despite all our good intentions, you know that we cannot legitimize this process.” Alon fired back at Netanyahu that the decision violates a campaign promise he made to build 300 housing units in the area. “You are worried about the interests of your settlement, I am concerned with the interests of the entire country,” Netanyahu replied. “There is international pressure, and we need to manage it wisely.” “The settlement movement is under attack by international powers,” Netanyahu added angrily. “I am protecting the movement as a whole, and we should do so with wisdom and respect for High Court decisions.” Netanyahu then said explicitly that he does not intend to keep the promise to build 300 homes in Ulpana.

Headline: Court Approves Protest Against Banning of Jews From Temple Mount
The High Court on Monday authorized a demonstration by groups protesting the banning of Jews from the Temple Mount. The demonstration is set to take place on Tuesday between 5:30 and 6:45 PM. Groups lobbying for the rights of Jews to pray on the Temple Mount called for a mass show of support against the ongoing harassment Jews face when they attempt to pray at the site. Police had sought to ban the protest altogether, and attorneys for the rights groups took their case directly to the High Court, which ruled that police could not prevent protesters from expressing themselves on the issue. With that, the court conceded that the protest could cause friction with Arabs – and thus restricted the time, as well as the location of the event. Originally, the protest had been set to take place outside the “Mercy Gate,” which had been traditionally been used by Jews to enter the site, but was closed off by the Muslim Waqf, which controls the Mount. The court authorized the protest only at the entrance to the Dung Gate, which is generally used by Jews to enter the area of the Kotel. The protest was also limited to 75 minutes, during a period when Muslims are generally not at prayer.

Headline: IDF Official: Hamas Approaching Pre-Protective Edge Rocket Arsenal
One year after Operation Protective Edge began, Hamas has nearly restored its pre-operation rocket capabilities, Ynet reported. According to an official with Israel’s Southern Command, the terrorist group which governs the Gaza Strip has almost as many short range rockets and mortar shells as it did before the confrontation began. During last summer’s 50-day conflict with Hamas, Israel set out to destroy Hamas’s arsenal of rockets, aimed at the Jewish State, as well as its network of terror tunnels under the Gaza-Israel border. According to IDF estimates, the army succeeded in obliterating over two-thirds of Hamas’s rockets and most of the tunnels. Hamas has spent the year, however, rebuilding its stockpile. “Hamas is getting closer to finishing restoring its stock of mortar shells and short-range rockets,” the official said. “They don’t yet have the amount of medium- and long-range rockets (that can reach Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and further north) [they once] had. Hamas will not give up the ability to fire rockets deep into Israel in the next war, because to them, a routine of sirens and emergency situation in Tel Aviv is an achievement.”

Headline: Hezbollah threatens Islamic State in Syria: Surrender or die
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Friday directly linked his group’s military campaign to the “Palestinian cause”, the Now Lebanon news website reported. In remarks in honor of the Iranian Quds Day, Nasrallah also claimed that all opponents of Iran oppose “Palestine” as well. “The road to Jerusalem passes through Qalamoun, Daraa, Hasakeh and other [Syrian battlefields],” he declared. Nasrallah’s comments come as Hezbollah fighters continue to engage in fierce fighting in the Syrian border town of Zabadani, where Hezbollah and Syrian regime troops have suffered mounting losses. The Hezbollah chief also trumpeted Iran’s role in the region, saying that the Islamic Republic was the only state that posed an existential threat to Israel. “After God, Iran is the only remaining hope to free Palestine,” Nasrallah declared, according to Now Lebanon, admitting that while his group poses a strategic threat to Israel, it could not destroy it. “If you are an enemy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, then you are an enemy of Palestine,” he stated.

Headline: ISIS claims Italian consulate car bomb in Cairo
A large explosion has severely damaged the Italian consulate in Egypt’s capital, Cairo. The health ministry says at least one person has died. Four people were also injured, medical sources said. The blast was caused by a car bomb, an official told the state-run news agency Mena. No group has yet said it carried out the attack. The consulate was closed and no civilian staff members are among the injured, an official told AP. The main entrance of the building was almost totally destroyed, windows were shattered and the building was flooded after water-pipes ruptured. Had it been a working day, the casualty numbers could have been much higher, says the BBC’s Sally Nabil in Cairo. The attack raises questions about the security forces’ ability to secure foreign diplomatic missions in the country, our correspondent adds.

Syria Headline: Syrian regime raids kill civilians in ISIS-held town
Syria’s regime killed at least 28 people, mostly civilians, on Saturday when its warplanes dropped massive makeshift bombs on a town held by the Islamic State group, a monitor said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the bombs used in the attacks on Al-Bab, in the northern province of Aleppo, were three times more destructive than so-called barrel bombs, which have already drawn widespread international condemnation. “The army used ‘container bombs’ which are three times more powerful than ‘barrel bombs’,” said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman. Among those killed in the bombardment were “19 civilians, including three children and three women,” said the Observatory, a Britain-based group that relies on a range of sources on the ground for its reports. The bodies of the nine other people killed in the attacks were too charred to be identified, said Abdel Rahman.

Syria Headline: Militants capture dozens of Syrian soldiers in Palmyra
On Sunday, sources in the city of Palmyra reported that Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS) militants captured more than 100 soldiers from the Syrian regime forces, including officers. This comes after fierce fighting broke out between IS militants and Syrian regime’s army in the sub-districts of Abu al-Fawares and Bayarat in Palmyra suburb, central Syria. “When IS militants pretended to withdraw from the area, the army moved forward towards Palmyra city. However, the terrorist group had planned an ambush for our forces in Abu al-Fawares sub-district, where more than 100 soldiers were taken hostages,” a source in the Syrian army told ARA News.

Syria Headline: How the Dominoes Will Fall After ISIS Takes Damascus ***I cannot tell if this piece is written as an OP-ED
For more than four years, the Assad regime in Syria has resisted its people’s cry to be freed from dictatorship. During the last several weeks, the Assad regime has shown signs of vulnerability punctuated by a weakened relationship with Iran. Iranian advisers who had supported Assad for years are now consumed with supporting the Iraqi government in its war against ISIS and the Houthis in Yemen in their war against a Saudi-led coalition of Arab nations. Iran’s economy has been damaged severely after a decade of international sanctions and Iran cannot support the Syrian regime financially forever. Hezbollah, the best trained force fighting for the regime, has lost about a thousand of its best fighters in Syria, the very fighters desperately needed to fight ISIS and al-Qaeda in Lebanon. For these reasons, Syrian government forces have suffered a series of defeats over the last weeks. The Assad regime now controls no more than 35 percent of the country, leaving the rest to ISIS, the Kurds and the other rebel groups like al-Nusra front. Allepo, Syria’s largest city is almost surrounded completely by the rebels. The Syrian Kurds have increased the territories they control in the north to include most of the border areas with Turkey. Assad is also the de facto mayor of Damascus and the coastal areas. If this trend continues, which is likely to happen, the Syrian regime will probably fall by the end of this year. The two competing forces to occupy Damascus are ISIS and al-Nusra front. If either of these two terrorist organizations capture Damascus, the world will witness an unprecedented chain reaction. It would be the first time that al-Qaeda or ISIS controlled a national capital. “ISIS’s strategic target is to control one of the historical capitals of the Islamic caliphates: Damascus, Baghdad or Samarra. These cities are very symbolic for its followers,” says Hisham al-Hashimi, an expert on ISIS and the author of the book, The World of ISIS.

Iraq Headline: ISIS Jihadists Attack Iraqi Forces in Anbar
Islamic State (ISIS) group fighters on Friday attacked Iraqi police and soldiers in an area considered a major staging ground for operations to reconquer Anbar province, security sources told AFP. ISIS fighters used suicide car bombs to attack government and allied forces in Khaldiyah, a town in the Euphrates valley that lies between Fallujah and Ramadi, Anbar’s two main cities. A police lieutenant colonel said ISIS fighters stormed the town’s Al-Madiq neighborhood “following clashes that forced army and federal police to abandon their positions.” “Local police and tribal fighters were left alone to fight Daesh in that area,” he said, using an Arabic acronym for the group that took over large parts of Iraq last year, establishing a “caliphate” in those areas. “After entering Al-Madiq, the organization deployed fighters with suicide vests in houses and streets,” the official said. A spokesperson for Anbar tribes fighting alongside the government said federal security forces were attempting to regain the initiative.

Iraq Headline: Baghdad car bombs and suicide attacks kill 35 – sources
Car bombs and suicide attacks targeting mainly Shi’ite Muslim districts of Baghdad killed 35 people on Sunday, one of the heaviest recent tolls in the Iraqi capital, which has faced a wave of bombings by Islamic State militants. The deadliest attack hit the northern Shaab neighborhood, where a car bomb followed by a suicide blast killed 19 people, security and medical sources said. The car exploded near a crowded market and, as police and bystanders gathered, an attacker detonated explosives strapped to his body. In Bunouk district in the capital’s northeast, a bomb in a car killed nine people, the sources said. Security forces were sweeping areas nearby, some with sniffer dogs, after receiving information about two further possible bombs, they said. More than 100 people were wounded in the three explosions. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Islamic State militants who control much of northern Iraq and the province of Anbar west of Baghdad regularly send bombers into the capital. Earlier on Sunday, a suicide bomber killed five people in Kadhimiya neighborhood, home to one of Shi’ite Islam’s holiest shrines, shortly before dusk and the end of the daily Ramadan fast. Another bomb in the Iskan district of western Baghdad killed two people, medical sources said.

Headline: US-Israeli-Egyptian mobile sensor-fence projects to block further ISIS Mid East expansion
US counter-terror experts are overseeing a lightning operation for setting up mobile sensor towers and electronic fences in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Israel in a desperate bid to seal their borders off against the fast-moving impetus of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – ISIS, or at least slow it down. This reign of terror is spreading out from Iraq and Syria and creeping into southern Jordan, the Israeli Negev, and Egyptian Sinai, then on to Libya and over to Tunisia and Algeria, covering a distance of 4,000 km. When President Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi saw his army had not repelled the ISIS Sinai affiliate’s offensive in North Sinai as it went into its second week – controlling only the main highway from El Arish to Cairo via Bardawil Lake – he turned to Washington with an urgent request to ship over mobile surveillance sensor towers and American crews to operate them. His plan is to string them across the Sinai Peninsula and along Egypt’s borders with Libya and Sudan in a last-chance bid to block the constant influx of reinforcements and weapons to ISIS fighters reaching Sinai from Libya, through the Egyptian borde,r and from Iraq, through southern Jordan and the Israeli Negev. The State Department acceded to the Egyptian request and has submitted the application worth $100 million for congressional approval. The application states: “This procurement is intended for Egyptian Border Guard Forces, which currently lack any remote detection capability along unpatrolled areas of Egypt’s borders.” Libya, Sudan and Sinai are specified. The application goes on to explain: “The system would provide an early warning capability to allow for faster response times to mitigate threats to the border guards and the civilian population.”

Headline: ISIL poison threat, arrests near reservoir leaves thousands in Kosovo without water
Officials in Kosovo shut off the water supply in the capital Pristina after fears that Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) had poisoned a local reservoir. Tens of thousands of residents in Kosovo were without water early on July 11 “because of security issues” and officials said that five men were arrested in connection to the suspected plot, Reuters reported. Kosovan jihadists of ISIL recorded a propaganda video claiming they would target the country’s water supplies in imminent attacks. “If you can, take poison and put it in their meal or in their drink. Make them die, make them die of poisoning, kill them wherever you are…you can do it,” one terrorist says in the video. Kosovo police reported three men behaving suspiciously near the water at the Badovc reservoir, which supplies around 100,000 of Pristina’s residents. The reservoir supplies nearly half of Pristina, a city of more than 200,000 people. Two other suspects were later arrested. All five face terrorism charges.

Headline: Kurdish militants to attack dam sites and say Turkey violated ceasefire
Headline: Turkey vows to press on with constructions in Kurdish region
Kurdish militants will attack Turkey‘s dam construction sites in the mainly Kurdish south-east, the group said in a statement late on Saturday, another blow to a fragile peace process meant to end a three-decade insurgency. The Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK), the Kurdish militants’ umbrella political group, on Saturday issued a statement saying that Turkey’s construction of military outposts, dams and roads for military purposes had violated the ceasefire. “The Turkish state took advantage of the ceasefire conditions not for a democratic political resolution but to gain an advantageous position in preparation of war by building dozens of guard posts, roads for military purposes and dams in order for a cultural genocide,” the statement said. The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) launched a separatist armed struggle in 1984 before moderating its goal to improving the rights of Turkey’s roughly 12 million Kurds. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, who has boosted Kurdish cultural rights during more than a decade in power, began peace talks with Ocalan in 2012, risking nationalist wrath. “The Kurdish movement has decided to not to accept this treatment any more, and to mobilise all means necessary, including the guerrilla forces, to stop the construction of all dams,” it said.

Headline: Putin Calls for Removal of Sanctions on Iran
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday called for the sanctions on Iran to be lifted as soon as possible after a deal is reached on Tehran’s nuclear program, Reuters reported. Iran and six major powers, including Russia, are discussing a deal that would curb Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions. Putin’s comments came soon after the talks, which have already been extended several times and were to end Friday, were extended yet again – this time through the weekend. Speaking at a news conference in the Russian city of Ufa, the president that there was a question over which sanctions should be lifted and when, but went on to say they should be ended as soon as possible. “We are calling for the comprehensive lifting of them as soon as possible,” Putin said, according to Reuters. Iran has also been restricted from selling oil as part of the sanctions. Putin said Iran would probably increase its oil production once the curbs are lifted.

Headline: Iran Fines U.S. Administration $50 Billion
Iran’s top leaders remain ambivalent about whether or not to sign the comprehensive nuclear accord with the six world powers in Vienna as 22 agonizing months of negotiation falter on the brink. The all-powerful supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s latest comment was far from helpful. Saturday, July 11, he said publicly: “The US is the true embodiment of global arrogance,” the fight against which “could not be interrupted” even after the completion of the nuclear talks. He also boasted that the Islamic Republic had “managed to charm the world” by sticking with those negotiations. debkafile’s Iranian sources report that Khamenei’s remarks reflect the struggle between the pro- and anti-nuclear deal factions at the highest level of the Iranian leadership. For now, President Barack Obama’s odds of less than 50 percent on a final accord may well describe the balance in Tehran. On June 29, President Hassan Rouhani was planning to resign when he asked the supreme leader to receive him first. He was upset by Foreign Minister Mohamed Zavad Zarif’s recall from Vienna to Tehran for a tough briefing. Zarif had warned the president that the talks were doomed unless Iran gave some slack. The foreign minister said that the six foreign ministers were preparing to leave Vienna in protest against Iran’s intransigence. Rouhani when he met Khamenei warned him that Iran was about to miss the main diplomatic train to its main destination: the lifting of sanctions to save the economy from certain ruin.

A powerful bomb blast has hit a school in southern Afghanistan amid a new surge in Taliban-led attacks across the war-ravaged country, Press TV reports. Sources in the city of Kandahar said Saturday that the remote-controlled bomb was detonated in front of a school in the Borj Bargh district, killing three people and injuring six more. No one has claimed the attack, which also inflicted major damage on the school building. The attack came hours after the Afghan government claimed it had dealt a huge blow to the Taliban in fresh battles with the militant group across the country. A statement by Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said 216 Taliban militants have been killed and 142 others have been injured during a “large-scale” operation which started two days ago. The official statement said 12 Afghan National Army troops also lost their lives during the operation in landmine explosions and exchange of fire with the militants.

A suicide car bomb has killed at least 33 people, mostly women and children, near a military base in Afghanistan, officials say. The bomber detonated explosives at a checkpoint near Camp Chapman, formerly used by the CIA, in eastern Khost province on Sunday. Camp Chapman was the site of one of the worst attacks on the agency in 2009 when a bomber killed seven officials. No US or coalition soldiers were killed in this latest attack. The base now houses both Afghan and foreign troops, including US soldiers. A statement from Khost’s provincial governor said that 27 civilians and six security personnel were killed. Youqib Khan, the deputy police chief, told the Associated Press news agency that Sunday’s blast hit a checkpoint manned by members of an Afghan unit that guards Camp Chapman. Officials said those killed were civilians in cars waiting to clear the checkpoint at the time of the blast.

Militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) acknowledged losing control of the city of Derna in eastern Libya and promised to “avenge” its fighters, according to Agence France Presse. In a video recording posted on Twitter, a man in military uniform promised to avenge ISIS fighters who died in the fighting. Senior Middle East analyst Michael Nayebi-Oskoui at U.S.-based global intelligence firm Stratfor said the loss of Derna does not greatly change ISIS’s effectiveness in Libya. “ISIS being kicked out of Derna does not dramatically alter the capabilities or effectiveness of the IS in Libya, as the group has faced and will continue to face stiff opposition from local competitors,” he said. “ISIS remains constrained in its ability to retaliate for any potential loss in Derna.” “That said, attacks (including suicide attacks) against security checkpoints in and around Sirte, Benghazi and Tripoli are all possible,” Nayebi-Oskoui added.

Headline: Tunisia scrambles to seal border against ISIS
Tunisia’s status as a “non-NATO ally” of the United States has been approved, the U.S. State Department said, paving the way for enhanced military cooperation between the countries. Washington hailed the partnership between the United States and Tunisia after the Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) status was confirmed Friday. “MNNA status sends a strong signal of our support for Tunisia’s decision to join the world’s democracies,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. He added the “status is a symbol of our close relationship.” In May, U.S. President Barack Obama declared Tunisia a non-NATO ally while hosting his Tunisian counterpart Beji Caid Essebsi at the White House. The United States is hoping to strengthen Essebsi, who in December became the first democratically elected leader in Tunisia’s 60-year history.

Captain Nur Olow, a military officer from Rage Ceele, in Middle Shabelle region in central Somalia, said two al-Shabab fighters were killed during the raid. “Al-Shabab attacked us early in the morning – we lost four soldiers but repulsed them,” Olow said. Al-Shabab’s military operations spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, told Reuters his fighters had killed a dozen soldiers in the raid. “We briefly seized the base and killed 12 soldiers and took their guns. We also took all the weapons and ammunition in the base,” he said.

Headline: Not informed of deal, coalition is ‘not bound by it’
The spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition targeting Yemen’s Shiite rebels in airstrikes since March says the coalition is not bound by a new truce deal. Brig. Gen. Ahmed Al-Assiri said the coalition is not interested in a unilateral truce, calling it “counterproductive.” He added that the coalition is not bound by it because of a lack of commitment by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. He called for UN observers on the ground to monitor for violations. The UN-declared truce is meant to last through the end of Ramadan. The World Health Organization said the truce would allow it and other groups to provide aid. The coalition said it “did not yet receive any request from the legitimate Yemeni government asking for a truce or cessation of military operations.”

Economic collapseRevelation 6:5-6 & Daniel 2:41-43– Decline of the Euro“ When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation) “Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.” (Daniel 2:41-43)

Headline: Greece heads to negotiating table seeking third bailout
The Greek parliament on Saturday (11 July) backed the government’s proposed package of austerity measures to obtain a third bailout sending a positive signal to a key meeting of euro finance ministers later today. The motion – which would allow the government to use proposals as basis for negotiations with its creditors – was passed by 251 votes in favour, 32 against and 8 abstentions. Prime minister Alexis Tsipras said the vote gives him a “strong mandate” to continue negotiations in Brussels. However it came at a heavy political price for the government. The energy minister and the parliament speaker voted against the proposals which run contrary to the spirit of a government that was elected on the back of a promise to end austerity in January. “The priority now is to have a positive outcome to the negotiations,” Tsipras said after the vote. “Everything else in its own time.” The cross-party support in Athens comes as Reuters reported EU sources saying the country’s creditors – the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund – believe their Greek reform proposals are positive. On Monday, the head of the European Commission said the risk of Greece leaving the eurozone had been averted. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that after a “tough battle”, Greece had secured debt restructuring and a “growth package”. The bailout is conditional on Greece passing agreed reforms by Wednesday. These include measures to streamline pensions, raise tax revenue and liberalise the labour market. An EU statement spoke of up to €86bn (£61bn) of financing for Greece over three years. Though it included an offer to reschedule Greek debt repayments “if necessary”, there was no provision for the reduction in Greek debt – or so-called “haircut” – that the Greek government had sought.

Headline: South Korea Fires Warning Shots at DMZ
South Korean troops fired warning shots at North Korean soldiers who intruded on the buffer zone marking their heavily armed border, Seoul said Sunday, in the first such skirmish this year. The incident occurred Saturday morning when 10 North Korean soldiers crossed the border of the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas, which remain technically at war, the South’s defense ministry said. But the brief intrusion near Cheorwon, northeast of Seoul, triggered no exchange of fire as North Korean soldiers retreated without firing back, it said. The demilitarized zone, or DMZ, despite its name, is one of the world’s most heavily militarized frontiers, bristling with watchtowers and landmines. There have been a series of minor skirmishes, involving exchanges of fire, along the inter-Korean land and sea borders in recent years. But this is the first time in 2015 South Korean soldiers have fired warning shots at North Korean troops for intruding in the DMZ, a ministry official told AFP. Cross-border tensions have flared at regular intervals this year, with North Korea conducting a series of ballistic missile tests in anger at annual US-South Korean military exercises.

Headline:Democrats Introduce Bill to Ban ‘Husband’ and ‘Wife’ as ‘Anti-Gay’ Words
Fresh off the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, Democrats in California have introduced a bill that would ban the words “husband” and “wife” from being used in federal law because they are “gendered terms” and discriminate against gay people. The words husband and wife were deleted from California state law last year in order to accommodate same sex marriage. Under new legislation proposed by over two dozen Democrats, that same rule would be applied federally. The bill, introduced by Rep. Lois Capps, D-Calif, would introduce new “gender-neutral” terms such as “spouse” or “married couple.” “The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act recognizes that the words in our laws have meaning and can continue to reflect prejudice and discrimination even when rendered null by our highest courts,” Capps said. “Our values as a country are reflected in our laws. I authored this bill because it is imperative that our federal code reflect the equality of all marriages.” Capps said that amending the language used was necessary to reflect “the equality of all marriages” following last month’s Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage that mandated all states to license same sex marriages. “Now that compulsory gay marriage is the law of the land thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, liberals are reaching out from that decision to see where else they can force the gay lobby’s agenda on the country,” writes Warner Todd Huston.

Headline: Pentagon Expected to Lift Transgender Ban
Pentagon leaders are finalizing plans aimed at lifting the ban on transgender individuals in the military, with the goal of formally ending one of the last gender- or sexuality-based barriers to military service, senior U.S. officials told The Associated Press. An announcement is expected this week, and the services would have six months to assess the impact of the change and work out the details, the officials said Monday. Military chiefs wanted time to methodically work through the legal, medical and administrative issues and develop training to ease any transition, and senior leaders believed six months would be sufficient. During that time, transgender individuals would still not be able to join the military, but any decisions to force out those already serving would be referred to the Pentagon’s acting undersecretary for personnel, the officials said. One senior official said the goal was to avoid forcing any transgender service members to leave during that time. Several officials familiar with the planning spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the issue publicly before the final details have been worked out.

Headline: Passengers can now carry marijuana on Oregon flights
Passengers traveling on flights within Oregon will be allowed to transport a small amount of weed, after the state’s recreational marijuana law went into effect July 1. According to Fox 12 Oregon, people flying through Portland International Airport, Oregon’s biggest airport, won’t be dragged from the line and hauled away if security officials spot pot. The Transportation Security Administration said its primary focus was to “detect threats to aviation security,” not stop adult marijuana users who obey the state’s 1 ounce marijuana limit, the International Business Times reported. If a passenger is found carrying pot, security agents will alert airport police, who will investigate whether the traveler is of legal age to possess the marijuana and that they are not flying out of state. Passengers traveling out of state will have to leave pot behind because transporting it to another place is still a federal offense.

Five airports have been closed in Indonesia amid a week-long eruption of the volcanic Mount Raung in East Java, which has caused 250 flights to be cancelled and left thousands of vacationers stranded. “I can’t say at this time how many passengers have been affected,” said Farid Indra Nugraha, a spokesman for airport operator Angkasa Pura 1, according to Al Jazeera. The country’s Garuda Indonesia airline cancelled all its flights, with the airport closures also affecting the popular tourist islands of Bali and Lombok. “Bali is our second largest hub and this will also affect our international connecting flights,” said Garuda Indonesia airline spokesperson Ikhsan Rosan. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, but Bali is an enclave of Hinduism in the country. It attracts millions of foreign tourists each year, and the volcano cancellations come amid peak holiday season. “It’s pretty chaotic,” Katie Nagar, an American expatriate living in Indonesia, told AFP.

Israel on Thursday said that two of its citizens are being held captive in the Gaza Strip, an announcement that brought back bitter memories of the case of an Israeli soldier who was captured and imprisoned for five years by the Hamas militant group. But circumstances have changed dramatically since Gilad Schalit’s release in a 2011 prisoner swap, and the case announced Thursday could provide an important test of a new fragile detente that has emerged between Israel and Hamas since their devastating war last year. A relatively subdued reaction in Israel reflected the new reality, though Hamas is likely to push for a new round of prisoner releases by Israel before it returns the two men. Israeli defense officials identified one of the men as Avraham Mengistu, an Israeli of Ethiopian descent in his late 20s. According to COGAT, the defense body that handles civilian issues with the Palestinians, Mengistu disappeared after he “independently” crossed the border fence and entered Gaza on Sept. 7, two weeks after the end of last year’s war. It gave no further details on why he had crossed into Gaza, though Israeli media said he had been distraught at the time of his disappearance.

Headline: Coalition of Churches Calls on Obama to End Israeli “Occupation”
The Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) group has sent a letter to US President Barack Obama urging him to condemn Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria while supporting a French-initiated UN resolution to force a two-state solution on Israel. CMEP is a coalition of 22 US church denominations and organizations promoting what it calls a “just, lasting and comprehensive resolution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The organization prides itself on being bipartisan, however it has been critiqued for its anti-Israel bias. In its letter to Obama, dated June 29, CMEP asked the president to turn his attention to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Noting an anticipated French resolution to be presented to the UN Security Council later this year setting a timeframe for a negotiated settlement after which France would unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state, CMEP urged Obama “to consult with the parties involved with a view of voting affirmatively on a resolution with these parameters.” The letter went on to implore his administration “to make clear that the US views Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine not merely as ‘illegitimate’ and ‘foolish,’ as it has already said, but also ‘illegal’.” “The US should certainly not be acting to support settlements,” the letter continues. “ We urge your administration to clearly reject language in bills now passed or pending in the Congress that deliberately includes settlements in measures designed to support Israel.”

Headline: Jordan sends military reinforcements to borders with Syria, Iraq
Jordanian Royal Army sent military reinforcements to the borderline with Syria and Iraq, Jordanian officials said on Wednesday. Jordanian army commander Gen. Meshal al-Zain said that the reinforcements include “heavy and advanced weapons to raise the efficiency of the forces deployed on the border with Syria and Iraq”. He pointed out that Syrian and Iraqi borders go through a security vacuum as a result of the ongoing conflict in both neighboring countries. These reinforcements came after two days of the Jordanian security services repelling a terrorist attack and the arrest of the suspects, who were reportedly linked to al-Quds Corps Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Headline: Lebanese Report: Israel Tried to Arm Syrian Rebels
A Lebanese news site affiliated with Hezbollah claimed Thursday it had obtained documents showing attempts by Israeli officials to transfer weapons to Syrian opposition forces. According to Al-Akhbar’s report, unidentified hackers broke into the computers of defense officials, and acquired files, transcripts, phone numbers, addresses as well as secret documents. The report alleges the hackers also broke into the computer and tapped the phone of “the Druze official closest to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.” That official has been named as Mandi Safdi, a former parliamentary aide to a fellow Druze, MK Ayoub Kara (Likud). Surveillance of Safdi lasted a number of months, Al-Akhbar claims, and it exposed senior Lebanese and Syrian officials cooperation with Israel. According to the report, the documents obtained by Al-Akhbar reveal an attempt by Safdi to recruit Lebanese and Syrian agents to transfer weapons to Syrian opposition groups. The report also alleges certain documents pinpoint coordination between Syrian opposition groups, Lebanese groups and Israel in attempts to access information on Hezbollah.

Headline: 7 Lebanese soldiers injured in clashes with demonstrators
The Lebanese army announced on Thursday that seven of its soldiers were injured in clashes with demonstrators in downtown Beirut. “Seven soldiers were injured when they were trying to prevent demonstrators from crossing the barbed wire placed in the perimeter of the Grand serial where the council of ministers was holding a regular session,” the army said in a communique by the Guidance Directorate. It added “the demonstrators attacked the soldiers with stones and sticks they were carrying.” On Thursday, the supporters of the Free Patriotic Movement led by MP Michel Aoun gathered near the Grand Serail in Beirut and scuffled with the army as they attempted to head to the government building. The army and security forces had bolstered their presence in the area in anticipation of any security development, blocking all roads leading to the Grand Serail. The supporters earlier vowed to stage “peaceful and civilized protests,” pledging that they will not block any roads. One person was wounded in the scuffles, accusing the army of beating him.

Headline: Roadside bomb wounds 20 policemen in Egypt’s El-Arish (Sinai)
A roadside bomb in Egypt’s restive northern Sinai Thursday wounded 20 policemen traveling in a bus and an armored personnel carrier, security officials said, the latest attack in the troubled part of the peninsula where Egyptian forces are battling an insurgency. The security officials said the bus carried policemen in civilian clothes as they left Arish at the start of their leave. The armored carrier was their escort, and was hit hardest by the bomb, according to the officials. Most of the 20 policemen were lightly wounded, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. In the past week, the officials said, homes of three policemen in Arish were also bombed, mostly causing damages.

Syria Headline: Significant Offensives in Syria: June 6 – July 9, 2015
Syrian rebel factions have launched long-awaited offensives against the isolated provincial capitals of Dera’a and Aleppo Cities, located in southern and northern Syria respectively. These two cities represent key lynchpins in the regime’s ‘army in all corners’ strategy which allows Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to claim control over all of Syria. The fall of either city to rebel forces including Syrian al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra would overturn the stalemate that has long characterized the Syrian Civil War, opening the door to further offensives against core regime terrain in Damascus and the Syrian Coast. Rebel forces have thus far achieved limited success in both cities, however, amidst reports of high casualties and poor coordination between rebel factions – in part due to friction between moderate Free Syrian Army (FSA)-affiliated rebel factions and more extreme groups led by Jabhat al-Nusra (JN). If the rebel campaigns to seize Aleppo and Dera’a Cities stall over the coming weeks, JN and other Salafi-jihadist groups could seize the opportunity to expand their leadership role within the Syrian opposition by emphasizing the gains previously achieved in Idlib Province when rebel factions united under JN’s leadership. Rebel efforts in Aleppo and Dera’a Provinces have also been handicapped by the need to respond to the threat posed by ISIS and ISIS-sympathetic rebel brigades, which have encroached upon opposition-held terrain in both the northern countryside of Aleppo City and the southwestern countryside of Dera’a Province.

Syria Headline: Syria army battles ISIS outside Palmyra: activists
Syrian army troops backed by war planes advanced to within several kilometers of Palmyra Thursday, battling ISIS fighters outside the famed ancient city, activists said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government troops were now some five kilometers (three miles) west of the city and engaged in fierce clashes with forces from the extremist group. “Regime forces could enter the city at any moment, they are not far away and the area between them and the city is desert,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said. The Britain-based monitor said the fighting was accompanied by intensive regime airstrikes on the city of Palmyra, which is famed for its ancient ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The group said civilians in Palmyra were fleeing the aerial bombardment, which has intensified in recent days. There was no immediate toll in the fighting or the airstrikes, which have generally targeted the residential part of Palmyra, not its ancient sector.

Syria Headline: Nusra attacks independent police in Idlib
Members of the Al-Nusra Front—Al-Qaeda’s Syrian franchise—have attacked the main police station in rural Idlib’s Kafr Nabl as part of a wider campaign targeting security forces outside the Islamist group’s control in the province. According to several pro-rebel outlets, Nusra’s lesser known ally Jund al-Aqsa was also involved in Wednesday’s raid in Kafr Nabl, which has come to international attention in past years for its catchy protests which have featured memorable and humorous placards. Raids similar to the one on Kafr Nabl’s police station had also been carried out in the towns of Khan Shaykhun and Kafr Sijna to the south of Kafr Nabl, while a Nusra official vowed that all independent police stations in the region would be “appropriated” due to their “infectiveness,” according to activist media. Enab Baladi cited eye-witnesses in Kafr Sijna as saying that Nusra had stormed the village’s police station, arresting at least three personnel and confiscating vehicles. “The raids also affect the town of Khan Shaykhun, but the resulting damages and detentions remain unknown,” the report said. “Neither of the two factions has made an official statement about the incident.”

Headline: Ankara agrees to armed drones being used against ISIL, report says
While visiting US officials continued to discuss Turkish-US cooperation against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and pushed Turkey further for expanded access to İncirlik Air Base on Thursday, Ankara reportedly agreed to allow the two armed US drones deployed at İncirlik to be used against ISIL. Gen. John Allen, the US special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter ISIL and US Department of Defense Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Christine Wormuth, along with a large delegation from the Pentagon, have been in Ankara this past week, meeting with their Turkish counterparts, including Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioğlu. The Turkish and US delegations had an eight-hour-long meeting on Tuesday and continued their discussion on Wednesday and Thursday. The US delegation’s meeting with their Turkish counterparts and their discussion of mutual efforts as part of a broad coalition to degrade and destroy ISIL were called “constructive” in a statement issued by the US Embassy in Ankara on Wednesday.

Headline: Libya’s recognized govt warns tankers away from Ras Lanuf port
At least 14 people were killed in battles in Libya’s second city Benghazi between militiamen and forces loyal to the internationally recognized government, hospital officials said on Thursday. The fighting erupted Wednesday morning in the center of the city, cradle of the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that toppled and killed veteran president Muammar Qaddafi, the officials said. The Benghazi Medical Centre said on its Facebook page that it had received the bodies of 13 people as well as 50 wounded. Al-Jalaa hospital said it was hit by a rocket that killed one person and wounded three. It was not immediately clear if those killed and wounded in the clashes — which subsided late Wednesday — were civilians or fighters. Elsewhere in Libya, a senior military intelligence officer was killed in third city Misrata on Wednesday when a bomb concealed in his car exploded, a security official said. The officer, Taher Allush, was close to Fajr Libya, a militia alliance which seized Tripoli in August last year and set up a rival government and parliament.

Headline: First Sighting of Greek Drachma
China and Russia could use this week’s BRICS summit and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference to formulate a BRICS-based rescue plan to tackle the Greece debt crisis, writes Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet. Greece is on the verge of a eurozone exit after the country’s voters refused the terms of an international bailout offer via a national referendum on Sunday, with European leaders such as German chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Francois Hollande calling on Athens to “make serious, credible proposals” to resolve the dire situation. While emergency summits are being conducted in Brussels, China and Russia will participate in the BRICS summit — along with Brazil, India and South Africa — and the SCO conference — with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan — from July 8-10 in the Russian city of Ufa. The summits commence just a day after the New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank, held its first summit in Moscow on July 7. China is the largest contributor to the US$100-billion NDB, established on July 15 last year, with a share of US$41 billion, while Russia has contributed US$18 billion. Duowei believes Beijing and Moscow may use the meetings as an opportunity to raise options on how BRICS could provide assistance to resolve the situation in Greece.

Headline: IMF revises world economic growth; lowers global growth predictions
The International Monetary Fund reduced its estimate of expected global growth in 2015 Thursday, citing financial market turbulence and slower U.S. expansion. In revisions to its World Economic Outlook, released Thursday in Washington, the IMF said the world economy would grow by 3.3 percent, down from its April prediction of 3.5 percent. Its prediction for 2016, a 3.8 percent increase, was left unchanged. The report singled out China and the Eurozone as areas of potential risk. China is currently in the midst of a stock market upheaval, with stock prices falling until a big increase Thursday; negotiations with creditors, if they fail, could push Greece from using the Euro as currency. Much of the IMF downgrade was caused by the United States’ slower-than-expected growth in the first quarter of 2015, although it referred to the U.S. setback as “temporary.”

Headline: Oregon allowing 15-year-olds to get state-subsidized sex-change operations
The list of things 15-year-olds are not legally allowed to do in Oregon is long: Drive, smoke, donate blood, get a tattoo — even go to a tanning bed. But, under a first-in-the-nation policy quietly enacted in January that many parents are only now finding out about, 15-year-olds are now allowed to get a sex-change operation. Many residents are stunned to learn they can do it without parental notification — and the state will even pay for it through its Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan. “It is trespassing on the hearts, the minds, the bodies of our children,” said Lori Porter of Parents’ Rights in Education. “They’re our children. And for a decision, a life-altering decision like that to be done unbeknownst to a parent or guardian, it’s mindboggling.” In a statement, Oregon Health Authority spokeswoman Susan Wickstrom explained it this way: “Age of medical consent varies by state. Oregon law — which applies to both Medicaid and non-Medicaid Oregonians — states that the age of medical consent is 15.” While 15 is the medical age of consent in the state, the decision to cover sex-change operations specifically was made by the Health Evidence Review Commission (HERC).

A re-established and self declared Israeli Sanhedrin, the religious High Court composed of 71 sages, has declared that it is putting Pope Francis on trial unless he retracts his statement that the Jews have no right to the land of Israel or to Jerusalem. In February 2013, the Vatican officially recognized the “State of Palestine” but more significantly, the Vatican signed a treaty in June with “Palestine” in which the Holy See switched its diplomatic relations from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the “State of Palestine”. This treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state and as such, constitutes an official recognition. The trial and judgment will be on September 20th, 2015. If Pope Francis chooses to ignore the summons, he will be judged in absentia. The Sanhedrin sent a letter to Pope Francis in reaction to the Vatican’s recent support of the Palestinian Authority’s unilateral moves to declare themselves a nation, reported the Hebrew magazine Matzav Haruach on June 24.

Headline: Israel merges IDF elite units to form the new Commando Brigade tailored to combat ISIS
While US president Barack Obama coined his approach to the struggle against the Islamic State with the words: “Ideologies are not defeated by guns. They’re defeated with better ideas.” – Israel and its military leaders are taking no chances against a declared enemy. Last Friday, July 3, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s Sinai branch fired three Grad missiles across the border into the Israeli Eshkol district, while it was in mid-offensive against the Egyptian army in North Sinai. Large parts of southern Israel next door had already been declared closed military areas in consequence of that offensive. ISIS and its affiliates, while currently preoccupied with snatching up territory from countries neighboring Israel, make no secret of their intention, confirmed by military intelligence, to reach Israel’s northern, eastern and southern borders before long. Monday, July 6, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gady Eisenkott unveiled Israel’s answer to the coming challenge. It is a unique, multi-purpose commando ground force, especially tailored to fight ISIS and provide the “boots on the ground” which the US-led coalition has kept back from the Islamists’ constantly expanding warfront. It will be trained and armed for extraordinary missions outside routine military tasks. The revelation was something of a wake-up call for the general Israeli population. The new force’s short term tasks are to guard southern and northern Israel against hostile rocket fire and attempts by Islamist groups riding captured armored carriers to storm the border.

Headline: Gaza Salafi leader seeks reconciliation with Hamas
***Please pay particular attention to this news
A Salafi leader in the Gaza Strip outlined the details of a détente between Hamas and more radical Gaza-based jihadist groups on Tuesday, claiming that Hamas was studying his proposal. Sheikh Issam Saleh, a former leader of the militant Islamist group Jaish al-Islam, convened a press conference in Gaza City to announce the establishment of a reconciliation committee to mitigate the mounting tension between Hamas and local fundamentalist groups vying for power. In a draft proposal published by the Jerusalem-based daily al-Quds, Saleh — a respected leader who has taught in Yemen, Sudan and Egypt — asked Hamas to release Salafi prisoners held in jail, and designate specific areas within the Gaza Strip for military training and “jihad activity.” Hamas has intensified its crackdown on Salafi jihadist groups in recent weeks in a bid to placate the Egyptian regime of Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, who is combating Islamic State-affiliated militants in the northern Sinai Peninsula. Hamas also considers the local armed groups a potential threat to its rule in Gaza and an ideological challenge to its more pragmatic version of political Islam. “We live together in one place and must cooperate. This is a religious matter,” he told the press. Saleh went on to condemn “internal explosions” carried out in Gaza by the Salafis, and “torture that runs counter to Islam,” carried out by Hamas. He denied ties between Gaza jihadists and members of the Islamic State in nearby Sinai, alleged by the Egyptian press. “Most of the mujahideen in Gaza have no connection to Sinai,” he argued. “The brothers in Sinai cause trouble with the Egyptian government, and here [in Gaza] Salafi jihadists operate against the Jews.”

Headline: Hamas alleges mass arrests, torture by Palestinian Authority
Following threats made by Hamas leaders over the past few days, the Palestinian Authority on Sunday warned the group against launching terror attacks against members of the PA security forces in the West Bank. Hamas’s threats followed the arrest of more than 120 of its members by various branches of the PA security forces in the West Bank in recent days. The PA justified the crackdown – the most severe against Hamas in recent years – by accusing the Islamist movement of working to undermine stability and stir chaos. Gen. Adnan Dmeiri, spokesman for the PA security forces in the West Bank, warned that Hamas would face the “unimaginable” if it dared to carry out terror attacks against Palestinian security personnel. “I hope that Hamas won’t test our patience, capabilities and love for our people,” he said. Dmeiri added that there was no difference between the rhetoric used by Hamas and Islamic State. He accused Hamas leaders of incitement against PA President Mahmoud Abbas and PA security forces.

Headline: Ramadan Terror Continues in Israel’s Capital
Following a sharp increase in Arab violence in Jerusalem over the past month, Palestinian criminals adopted a new tactic: arson. Over the weekend, three Molotov cocktails, believed to have been thrown by perpetrators from the Palestinian village of Qattana near the Jewish Kibbutz of Ma’aleh HaHamisha, caused a major forest fire that burned over 100 acres in the Jerusalem hills. According to Fire and Rescue Services, the firebombs were thrown at the separation fence between the Palestinian village and the Kibbutz. Jerusalem Police have opened an investigation into this attack as well as two previous attacks, but so far no arrests have been made. Fire fighters from both Beit Shemesh and Jerusalem were working around the clock on Thursday to put out a fire near the Kibbutz, again on Friday to quelch a different fire also started by arson near Kibbutz Tzora, and then again on Saturday to put out a third fire in the area, again by Ma’aleh Hahamisha. “It’s very difficult, the firefighters are wiped out – not just those on duty are working, but many are also called in from home,” said Beit Shemesh Fire Chief Reuven Yitzhak.

Headline: Is Iran seeking to foment chaos in Jordan?
Former Pentagon official to ‘Post’: To many, news that an Iranian operative was arrested came as a surprise, but it shouldn’t have. With Iran controlling two Arab states bordering Jordan, the Kingdom has become a suitable target for expanding influence and unrest in the Arab world. By gaining a foothold in Jordan, it would give the Iranian led Shi’ite axis another border from which to target Israel. Iranian funded proxies are already present in Israel’s north in Lebanon and Syria and in Gaza to the south. The Jordanian media reported this week that the country’s security forces arrested an Iranian operative allegedly planning a terror attack in the Kingdom. A source at the Iranian foreign ministry strongly denied the report published in the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai on Monday, calling it “baseless,” according to a report in the semi-official Iranian Fars News Agency. The Shi’ite led government to Jordan’s east in Iraq and the Iranian allied regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad to the north provide launching pads for covert operations in the Kingdom. However, Prof. Hillel Frisch of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University told The Jerusalem Post that “the timing in publicizing terrorist plots is almost invariably a political decision.” “Jordan’s decision to announce Iranian involvement in a terrorist plot on the eve of the final deadline negotiations between the 5+1 and Iran is a stellar example of how politics influences such decisions,” asserted Frisch. “Jordan’s message is crystal clear: President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry are completely wrong to think that by engaging Iran, the regime will transform into a status quo state.”

Headline: Hezbollah withdraws from Syrian border city under rebels’ fire
Hezbollah casualties have mounted in the fierce back-and-forth fighting in Zabadani, as conflicting reports touting advances by both pro-regime and rebel forces in the strategic Syrian border town have emerged. “Preliminary information indicates that Hezbollah has advanced in northwest Zabadani’s Zahraa district, losing four of its fighters in the latest clashes,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Wednesday morning. The monitoring NGO has recorded at least 8 Hezbollah casualties since the Zabadani offensive began on Sunday. Although pro-Hezbollah media reported that the party’s fighters and Syrian troops were advancing in Zabadani, pro-opposition outlets insisted that rebels had forced Hezbollah out of the Al-Jamaiyat district in the western part of the town. Al-Souria Net reported late Tuesday that the clashes in Zabadani had intensified, leaving dozens of regime and Hezbollah fighters dead and injured. “Fighting is taking place on a number of fronts, most fiercely on the Al-Jamaiyat front [in western Zabadani] where groups of Hezbollah fighters have fled under rebel fire,” media activist Fares al-Arabi told the outlet. ARA News, in turn, quoted rebel sources as saying that the armed opposition in Zabadani had managed to recapture the Al-Jamaiyat district on Tuesday as well as “two Syrian regime-held checkpoints in the vicinity of the city.” The SOHR, for its part, said Tuesday that militants had been able to recapture two buildings originally taken by Hezbollah and regime forces, without elaborating further.

Headline: Saudi Arabia to invest record $10bn in Russia
The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia in partnership with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has agreed to invest $10 billion into Russian projects. It is the largest foreign investment in Russia. “We have reached final agreements and are announcing the creation of a partnership with the sovereign fund of Saudi Arabia, under which PIF will invest $10 billion into projects on Russian territory. These funds are expected to be implemented within 4-5 years,” said the head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday. He said the first four or five investment deals are expected to be signed in the next 2-3 months and could also attract partners from China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. The Russian Investment Fund plans to implement 10 deals with PIF before the end of 2015, seven of them are in the final stages. The new partnership may use the mechanism of automatic co-investment, already tested in the framework of the Russian-Chinese Investment Fund.

Headline: Sisi: Israel-PA Peace Will Make the Region Safer
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Monday said that a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) would make the Middle East safer. Sisi’s comments came in a meeting with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), the Arab Today news website reported. During the meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the delegation offered condolences to the president over the victims of recent terror attacks in North Sinai, stressing support for the Egyptian people against terrorism, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said. The delegation also hailed the accomplishments achieved at the security and economic levels, the spokesman said. Sisi told the delegation that the danger of terrorism in Sinai has to be countered, warning of its repercussions not only on Egypt but on the entire region. He also said the cycle of violence and terrorism was not restricted to the Middle East region but has expanded to other countries in Africa, according to Arab Today.

Headline: Bombing leaves five wounded in northern Egypt
At least five people have reportedly sustained injuries in a car bomb attack targeting the premises of a court in Egypt’s northern province of Beheira, Press TV reports. Egyptian authorities, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a car rigged with explosives exploded close to the court in the town of Beheira’s Itay el-Baroud, situated 180 kilometers (112 miles) north of the capital, Cairo, early on Tuesday. The court is where dozens of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood members have stood trial over the past few months. Judicial sources confirmed that the explosion did not inflict any damage on the court building. Elsewhere in Egypt’s northern town of Faqus, unidentified assailants stormed a security checkpoint on Tuesday morning, injuring a policeman. The attackers later fled the scene onboard a motorcycle. Sources, speaking anonymously, said security personnel lave launched an operation to hunt down the gunmen.

Syria Headline: Nusra Front Suicide Bomber Kills 25 Soldiers in Aleppo
A suicide bomber from the Al-Nusra Front terrorist group, Syria’s Al-Qaeda offshoot, blew himself up in a Syrian army outpost in a contested neighborhood in the city of Aleppo on Monday night. The bombing killed at least 25 soldiers and allied militia and injured scores, according to the Reuters news agency. The Britain-based Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks the violence across the country, said the explosion from the blast was heard across the city where several Islamist-led groups recently launched an offensive to control the remaining western parts of the city in government hands. Rebel websites said there was heavy bombardment of rebel-held portions of Jamiyat al Zahra district, where rebels had gained ground and brought them closer to the heart of government controlled parts of the city, which was before the 2011 civil war the country’s main industrial and commercial hub. Rami Abdul Rahman, head of the Observatory, was quoted by Reuters as having said that the Syrian army had responded with heavy firepower including aerial bombardment, in an attempt to stem the offensive.

Syria Headline: ISIS Hackers Take Down Human Rights Monitor’s Website
Hackers claiming to be affiliated with the Islamic State terror group took down the website of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor on Wednesday and threatened its director, AFP reported. The group calling itself the Cyber Army of the Khilafah (Caliphate) replaced the front page of the war monitor’s site with a photoshopped image of the Observatory’s director and text threatening him. The Observatory is a Britain-based monitor of the war in Syria, and one of the few groups that has reported on violations by all sides in the conflict and documented its ongoing death toll. A screenshot of the hacked website provided by the Observatory showed an image of director Rami Abdel Rahman’s face photoshopped onto the body of an ISIS hostage dressed in orange and seemingly about to be beheaded by a knife-wielding jihadist. The text claims that the “Cyber Army of the Khilafah broke into the computer systems of SOHR… seized control of its website, destroying it, and wiping out the data.” Abdel Rahman confirmed the hackers had destroyed data on the Observatory’s servers, but said “we have a copy of all the information that has been published and until the site is back up, we will publish on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.”

Three explosions in the Iraqi town of Baiji have left at least 10 members of government forces and the Popular Mobilization Units dead and 35 others wounded. Local media quoted security sources in Salahuddin Province as saying Tuesday’s casualties resulted from three explosive-laden car blasts in residential areas. Headline: German Patriot Missiles in Turkey Hacked, Raising Terrorism Fears
German-owned Patriot missiles stationed on Turkey’s Syrian border have been briefly hacked, according to reports in the German media. The nature of the technology hack, and the culprits, are unknown. The American-made anti-aircraft missiles were stationed in Turkey by Germany to protect their Nato ally, The Local has reported. According to civil service magazine Behorden Speigel, the missile system carried out “unexplained” commands. It reports that the missiles are susceptible to hacking in the “digital space”, as commands are broadcast from the command centre to the missile in real time. Alternately, the microchips which run the system could have been tampered with. Although the missiles are American built, the chips are manufactured in Asia, raising concerns for their security. The two weaknesses potentially leave the missile system open to both being taken over by an alternate operator, and to espionage.

Headline: Syria president ratifies $1bn credit line from Iran
It has been said that truth is stranger than fiction, and indeed it would be hard to imagine scripting the signing of a nuclear deal with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism on the very day that this regime holds an annual global protest calling for the destruction of the Jewish state. And yet that plot twist is fully set to happen, as Iran’s “Death to Israel Day,” officially known as Quds Day or Jerusalem Day, will take place this Friday July 10 – bizarrely timed to coincide with the newly re-extended deadline for a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program. American officials said Tuesday that the latest extension on the deadline will be the last, indicating that there is a great likelihood that calls to destroy Israel will echo Iranian celebrations of a deal that Israel and other critics see as paving the Islamic regime’s path to a nuclear arsenal. Quds Day is held annually on the final Friday of the Muslim fast month of Ramadan. It was instituted on August 7, 1979 by then-Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini just after the Islamic Revolution, as a day of solidarity against the “usurper Israel.”

Headline: Deputy emir of Islamic State’s Khorasan province reported killed in US drone strike
The US killed the Islamic State’s deputy emir for its Khorasan province in a drone strike on July 6 in eastern Afghanistan, according to Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security. If confirmed, the US has killed two deputy emirs of the Khorasan province since February. The National Directorate of Security said that Afghan forces confirmed that “Gull Zaman,” the Khorasan province’s second in command, and his deputy, who was identified as “Jahanyar,” were killed in a strike in the Achin district in Nangarhar. The Khorasan is a region encompassing Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan, Iran, and neighboring Central Asian countries. Five other jihadists are said to have been killed in the strike, according to TOLONews. The US is reported to have launched two airstrikes against the Islamic State in the Achin district on July 6. A provincial official for Nangarhar said that upwards of 49 jihadists were killed in the two attacks. The Islamic State has not released a statement confirming the death of its deputy emir for the province. The US military has not confirmed the death of Gull Zaman or announced that it launched airstrikes in Nangarhar.

Headline: South Sudan rebel warns president of more fighting if he stays on
South Sudan’s rebel leader warned on Wednesday of renewed fighting, saying President Salva Kiir’s new three-year mandate was illegal and the people had the right to “rise up and overthrow his regime” if he stayed on. Riek Machar made his statement in the capital of neighboring Kenya as South Sudan’s parliament speaker formally extended Kiir’s term for three more years, as approved by lawmakers in a March vote. Rebels say parliament did not have the right to take such action, in a nation that has been mired in conflict since December 2013. “Should President Kiir remain adamant and refuse to hand over power to the people, then the citizens have every right to rise up and overthrow his regime,” Machar said, adding Kiir’s term ended from midnight on July 8. “This is not an elected president. This is a coup leader,” he said. Fighting between forces loyal to Kiir and rebels allied with Machar plunged South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, into a civil war in December 2013. South Sudan will mark four years of independence from Sudan on Thursday.

Headline: Isis in Libya: Islamic State raises black flag in Sirte and consolidates port stronghold
The offshoot of the so-called Islamic State (Isis) in Libya has posted pictures of militants loyal to the group raising its black flag over the port city of Sirte as it consolidates its power there. In images shared on social media, IS showed its fighters tearing down Libya’s independence flag in the town and raising a number of black Jihadi flags in their place. In a separate video, IS’s branch in western Libya, the “State of Tripoli” showed a series of still photographs of its militants imposing order in the city and then, ominously, a later video of a number of boats anchored in Sirte’s harbour. IS has said it hopes to use Libyan ports to cross the Mediterranean posing as migrants and the wreak havoc on mainland Europe. Leaders within Libya’s internationally recognised government have warned IS could use its access to smuggling networks and ports to traffic fighters into Europe. On 6 July, France’s Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned Libya was a perfect launch pad for IS to attack Europe.

Headline: Tunisia’s to build wall along border with Libya
Tunisia’s government said it will build a wall along its border with Libya to prevent the infiltration of Islamist fighters following a beach front attack that killed 38 tourists. The wall, that will cover about a third of the 500km (310 mile) border, will be ready by the end of the year, Tunisian prime minister Habib Essid said in a television interview on Tuesday. The government has already started construction, said Essid, although he warned that protecting the border would be “difficult, very difficult.” While Tunisia has escaped the worst of the unrest that swept through Libya, Syria and Egypt since 2011, the violence is hurting an economy struggling to recover after the Arab Spring uprising that toppled president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The barrier is one of the measures Tunisia has announced to counter the threat of Islamic militancy that has targeted the tourism sector, which accounts for about 7 per cent of the country’s economy. A month-long state of emergency was declared on July 4th.

Headline: 18 killed in Algerian ethnic clashes: medical sources
At least 18 people have been killed in clashes between Arabs and Berbers around the Algerian desert town of Ghardaia, with several businesses and homes burned down, medical sources and state media said Wednesday. The violence broke out over the weekend, with security forces sending reinforcements in a bid to calm renewed clashes that intensified Monday and Tuesday night. “Fifteen people died of wounds last night,” a source at a local hospital told Reuters. Three people had died Monday, mainly in the small town of Guerrara, near Ghardaia, state media said. Ghardaia, around 600 km (370 miles) from Algiers, is home to both Arabs and the Mozabite Berber community, which speaks its own language and follows its own school of Islam. The area has often been a flashpoint for clashes as Arabs and Mozabites compete for jobs, houses and land. Interior Minister Noureddine Bedoui arrived in Ghardaia early Wednesday, as tribal leaders called for “vigilance and wisdom,” the official APS news agency reported. About 30 people were also wounded, including seven seriously, in the past two days, while several businesses, houses and cars were burned, medical and local sources said. The clashes were the worst in recent years.

A bomb blast has ripped through a government office in northern Nigeria, killing at least 25 people and injuring some others. Local Nigerian officials said the powerful explosion took place in northern city of Zaria in Kaduna state at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT) on Tuesday. “I am sad to confirm that an IED (improvised explosive device) most likely carried by a suicide bomber exploded in the Sabon Gari LG (local government district) and killed 25 people, including a two-year-old,” Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai said on Facebook. Witnesses said the blast targeted primary school teachers and public sector workers, who were queuing for identity checks. No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. However, the Nigerian government usually blames Takfiri Boko Haram militants for similar incidents. The latest attack comes after two bomb explosions targeted a mosque and a restaurant in the Nigerian central city of Jos Sunday night, killing 44 people.

At least one person has been killed and five others wounded in an ISIL Takfiri terrorist bomb attack on a Shia mosque in Yemeni capital city Sana’a. A “bomb-rigged car” exploded outside the al-Raoudh mosque in southeast Sana’a as worshipers were leaving after prayers, AFP quoted security officials as saying on Tuesday. The blast and casualties have been confirmed by local Yemeni medical and security sources. ISIL, which has seized parts of land in Iraq, Syria and other countries, claimed responsibility for the attack several hours after it occurred. Meanwhile, Yemen’s government told the United Nations on Wednesday that it agreed to a conditional truce to end more than three months of fighting and hopes it can be implemented in the coming days, spokesman Rajeh Badi said. “The Yemeni authorities have informed the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon of its agreement to implement a truce in the coming days,” Badi told Reuters by phone from the government’s seat of exile in Saudi Arabia. Yemen’s President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, the spokesman said, had set “guarantees” for a pause, including the release of prisoners by Yemen’s dominant Houthi group and their withdrawal from four provinces where they are fighting local militias.

Headline: Greece Faces Euro Exit Unless Demands Accepted by Sunday
The Greek government has been given a “final deadline” until the end of the week to present a proposal of reforms, ahead of a meeting of all 28 EU leaders in Brussels on Sunday (12 July). But in a sign of the general pessimism following Tuesday’s meeting of euro leaders, the European Commission said it already has plans for how to deal with a Greek exit from the eurozone. “We have a Grexit scenario prepared in detail”, said commission head Jean-Claude Juncker, although he added that it is something he is “strongly against”. Referring to Athens’ key issue of debt relief and debt restructuring, Juncker said “debt-related issues” could be discussed in October, but first a plan of reforms is required. Meanwhile, German chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out any debt haircut for Greece. “Tonight many around the table, also myself, said a haircut will not happen. That is a bailout essentially within the eurozone and that is banned”, she said. The eurozone summit was called after 61 percent of Greek voters in a referendum last Sunday voted No to creditors’ reform proposals.

A global stock market crash has begun. European stocks are crashing, Chinese stocks are crashing, and commodities are crashing. And guess what? All of those things happened before U.S. stocks crashed in the fall of 2008 too. In so many ways, it seems like we are watching a replay of the financial crisis of 2008, but this time around the world is in far worse shape financially. Global debt levels are at an all-time high, the 75 trillion dollar global shadow banking system could implode at any time, and there are hundreds of trillions of dollars in derivatives that threaten to wipe out major banks all over the planet. The last major worldwide financial crash was almost seven years ago, and very little has been done since that time to prepare for the next one. If global markets do not calm down, we could see carnage in the months ahead that is absolutely unprecedented.

Headline: Study: New Strain Of Polio-Like Virus Leading To Paralysis In Children
LiveScience reports more than 100 children in 34 states mysteriously developed muscle weakness or paralysis in their arms or legs. This condition is known as acute flaccid myelitis, but researchers previously linked a virus called enterovirus D68 with some of the cases. Only 20 percent of children with paralysis, though, tested positive for EV-D68, and it wasn’t clear if that virus was behind the child’s paralysis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study in October 2014 of a 6-year-old girl who was examined at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital for “acute onset of progressive right upper extremity weakness.” The little girl was previously healthy before falling ill. The study linked the girl’s condition to a virus known as enterovirus C105. It was first detected in patients from Peru and the Republic of Congo in 2010. Enterovirus C species includes the polioviruses. “We probably shouldn’t be quite so fast to jump to enterovirus D68 as the cause of these cases,” Dr. Ronald Turner, professor of pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, told LiveScience. This outbreak of acute flaccid myelitis affected 118 children in the United States in the summer of 2014. The report found that 88 of those children “noted that most had experienced a preceding respiratory illness, similar to that described by the patient reported here.”

Headline: Why the Bible Is Not the Word of God- a Pastors’ Blog in the Huffington Post
Perhaps it should be first noted that I am a licensed minister in the Missionary Baptist tradition. I believe in preaching the word of God. I believe in the saving of souls from the clutches of dark forces. I believe that God is all-loving and all-powerful, and that his son, Jesus of Nazareth, was the son of God, who has given us a way to live life fully and abundantly. Yet, I do not believe the Holy Bible is the infallible word of God. The Holy Bible is a collection of Christian texts that is the result of refinement by men who thought they were led by God to discern his teachings. The early Christian world was diverse and everyone had a different take on the Gospel of Jesus. These disagreements were “settled” in large meetings of high ranking priests called “Councils.” The Council of Hippo (one of the African Synods) drew up a collection of texts, which is now the Catholic Bible (including a class of texts I as a Protestant would call Apocrypha), in 393 AD. St. Jerome is credited with creating the Old Latin Vulgate, which was the outcome of the African Synods and was used as the Bible for centuries.

It will now be presented before a health commission and then the Senate for approval. Planting, selling and transporting marijuana is currently punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Matthew 24:7 “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” Luke21:25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring”
Headline: Polar Geomagnetic Storms
NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on July 10th when a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) is expected to hit Earth’s magnetic field. CIRs are transition zones between fast- and slow-moving solar wind streams. Solar wind plasma piles up in these regions, producing density gradients and shock waves that do a good job of sparking auroras.

Headline: Huge storm band bearing down on China and Japan
Sitting off the coast of China and Japan are two typhoons, spinning just 1500km apart and quickly intensifying. Experts predict they will develop into ‘super typhoons’, with at least one – Typhoon Chan-hom – likely to make landfall in Japan. The second typhoon, Typhoon Nangka, is continuing to strengthen as it heads towards the island of Guma, with winds of up to 260km/h. A third storm – Tropical Storm Linfa – is lurking to the west and slowly drifting northwards. Residents are on high alert as the huge storm band bears down on China and Japan.

***All earthquakes are instantly posted to my Facebook & Twitter pages; Please be sure to visit my Facebook page to see ALL the maps of the large earthquakes from March 2014 – today
Just in case you are new to Bible prophecy I wanted you to know that earthquakes are just one of the many last days signs Jesus told us to look for. The key to the last day signs is that all of the signs would be taking place all at the same time. Yesterday I witnessed to two young men at a store and neither one of the men knew about the last day signs. For all those who don’t know the Bible you need to understand that their was one special generation that has been chosen to see the return of Jesus Christ. That generation is the one who would witness all the signs at the same time. Guess what? No other generation has ever seen all the signs together which include the rebirth of the nation of Israel. So when you see the sign of great earth quakes alone you should be to concerned however, when these great earthquakes are accompanied with all the rest of the signs that is the time you really need to examine your life for without Jesus Christ as your Lord you will never see heaven. Of course if you are not in heaven your eternal state will be hell and the one person who is trying his best to make people think there is no such place as hell Satan. You would be wise to believe in Christ! If you download my prophecy book and read the section on earthquakes you will see for yourself the great quakes Jesus warned us about are here and coming faster and faster as with the last days birth pain Jesus warned us about in Mark 13:8. There were two more great quakes already today one in Russia and the other in Japan!
Luke 21:11 “And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and Pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signsfrom heaven.”
TOKYO: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property. The quake hit at 2.10pm (0510 GMT) with its epicentre off the eastern coast of Hokkaido, about 1,300km north-east of Tokyo, at a depth of 20 kilometres, the agency said. http://www.thesundaily.my/news/1482590
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate” (Daniel 9:27).
“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)” (Matthew 24:15).
“Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4).
In my March 16, 2015 I posted a YouTube video entitled: “Jewish Third Temple is going to be rebuilt”. In that post I warned again that the Jews would be rebuilding the Third Temple soon and we needed to pay attention to the news concerning the Jews making their way up to the Temple Mount where the 1st and 2nd Temple once stood. The reason I am giving you this information now is there was an important announcement via the Temple Mount Institute leaders which may turn out to be a game changer concerning the 3rd Temple prophecy. Below is the Headline from the Temple Mount Institute.
Here is a short clip from the news released by the Temple Mount. Please read this info and then I will connect the dots.
I quote, “TEMPLE MOUNT In an interview with Israel National News, Temple Institute founder Rabbi Yisrael Ariel called upon all Jews to make their way to the Temple Mount.
“We must repent. The situation is difficult. The Mount is under the rule and control of various Islamic groups, and the police rush Jewish visitors in and out in order not to interfere with the Muslim sovereignty of the holy site.”
“The Hamas thugs – ostensibly members of the Waqf – are the bosses of the Israel police. They do as they are told. Recently it was reported that ISIS activists are present on the Mount, and that is even more worrying.”
INN adds: “The time has come, he added, for the Chief Rabbis to embrace the notion of Jews ascending the Temple Mount – a move the rabbis have refused for decades, claiming that Jews are unable to do so lest they enter holy areas that ritually impure individuals are not allowed to tread. ‘It’s very sad,’ he said. ‘There is a small minority of us that are visiting the Mount against the wishes of the rabbis, of ISIS, and of the government. The proper way to repent would be for all of us to rise up and declare that we are visiting the Mount freely. That is one of the greatest of deeds we can accomplish today.'”
The question is what does the Temple Mount Institute have planned? Will they be able to entice enough Jews to march up to the Temple Mount in show of force to the Muslims that they mean to soon take over the Temple Mount area in order to allow the Jews the same rights on the Mount as the Muslims? If the Temple Mount Institute does manage to pull this off I am sure you will see riots on the Mount like we haven’t seen in a very long time. One thing is for sure. I will be watching the news out of Israel on July 12, 2015! No matter if the people at the Temple Mount are successful or not on the 12th, one way or another the Jews will begin to rebuild that 3rd Temple as prophesied by Christ.

Headline: School teachers working in Israeli schools supported ISIS, Shin Bet says
Security forces have arrested six Israeli Beduin men from the Negev town of Houra, four of whom work as school teachers, for allegedly supporting the Islamic State terrorist organization. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed Monday that the men were arrested over the past two months. They allegedly took part in secret meetings in which they discussed Islamic State doctrine, and spread the group’s propaganda among their family members and associates. Some of the suspects planned to join the ranks Islamic State in Syria. Those who worked as teachers at schools in the Negev used their positions to spread Islamic State propaganda among students and teachers, according to the Shin Bet. As part of the investigation, additional school personnel were investigated including a school principal on suspicion that he knew of his colleagues’ involvement with the Islamic State and failed to report the fact to authorities. The Shin Bet stated that members of the same Negev Islamic State cell had previously left Israel to fight for the organization in Syria’s civil war.

Headline: Jordan ‘foils Iranian-backed terror plot’
Jordanian security forces have foiled a terror plot by a member of an Iranian-backed group, local newspaper Al Rai reported on Monday. The report states that the suspect belongs to the Iranian Bayt al-Maqdis group and holds Iraqi and Norwegian citizenship. The suspect was found to be in possession of large amounts of explosives and was arrested in northern Jordan, the newspaper added. Jordan’s state security court was set to hold its first hearing on the case on Monday. Despite similarities in the name, the Iranian-backed group is reportedly unrelated to Egyptian militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which recently changed its name after pledging allegiance to ISIS. A source familiar with the investigation told Al Rai that 45 kilograms of explosives were found in the suspect’s possession. “This is the most serious case in a decade in terms of the quantity of explosives discovered and their quality,” said the source, adding that a major terror operation had been averted.

House-to-house pitched gunbattles raged all day Sunday as the Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters marched into Zabadani, the last rebel-held town in the Qalamoun region near the Lebanese border, inflicting heavy casualties on the militants, security sources said. The news came on the second day of a major offensive to capture the border area around the Beirut-Damascus highway as allied forces pounded rebel positions with rockets, mortar bombs and barrel bombs. Backed by warplanes and helicopters, Syrian troops and Hezbollah fighters Sunday broke through four axes in Zabadani, battling a coalition of Islamist militants defending the town, a security source told The Daily Star. An air raid entirely destroyed a building in central Zabadani used by rebels as a military operations room and killed at least 12 militants, the source said. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said scores of militants were killed in fierce clashes that raged over the weekend, while nine militants have surrendered to the Syrian army. Three Syrian soldiers and two Hezbollah fighters were also killed in the fighting, the source said. Noting that the offensive in Zabadani was going on to clear the town of militants, the source said: “The Syrian army and Hezbollah are cautiously advancing in the town because there are many booby traps planted by the militants.”

Headline: Egyptian army backed by Apaches kills 63 Islamists in broad area between Sheikh Zuwaid and Rafah
An immense stretch of Sinai desert populated by half a million people is under siege, as the Egyptian army fights off a major offensive by the Islamic State’s Egyptian affiliate, the Sinai Province, against its positions in northern Sinai. The battle, which Monday, July 6, went into its sixth day, is being fought in an area bounded by the northern town of Sheikh Zuwaid, Rafah on the Gaza border, and up to Kerem Shalom and Nitzana on the Israeli border to the south. debkafile’s military sources report a news blackout on the ongoing warfare except for Egyptian army handouts. Egyptian security sources reported Monday that the latest round of helicopter strikes and ground operations had killed 63 Islamists in villages between Sheikh Zuwaid and Rafah, where four of their hideouts had been located. Our sources add that these air strikes are directed against civilian dwellings, especially in farming districts, where ISIS fighters are suspected of hiding out. No figures have been released by Cairo on civilian or Egyptian army casualties. In a new message released Friday, July 3, a number of radical Islamist leaders, including the ISIS “caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, told their followers that the destruction of Egypt’s national monuments, such as the pyramids and the sphinx, was a “religious duty” that must be carried out by those who worship Islam, as “idolatry is strictly banned in the religion.”This message has sharply ratcheted up the jihadist element of ISIS military confrontation with Egypt to a higher, more inflammatory level.

Syria Headline: Syria rebels take army center in regime-held Aleppo
Syrian rebels have seized a strategic military center in government-held western Aleppo city, as fierce battles rage between opposition and regime forces, a monitor said Saturday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a coalition of rebel groups had taken the Scientific Research Centre, which was being used as a military barracks. Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said that opened potential lines of attack against several other government-held neighborhoods. The alliance of rebels is one of at least two coalitions of opposition fighters that have begun a major operation against government-held districts in Aleppo in recent days. The grouping that captured the military barracks includes various largely moderate rebel factions. A second coalition fighting in western Aleppo calls itself Ansar al-Sharia and includes Al-Qaeda’s local affiliate Al-Nusra Front.

Iraq Headline: ISIS suicide bombers strike in Iraqi refinery town
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria suicide bombers and fighters attacked the centre of Iraq’s northern oil refinery town of Baiji overnight, forcing the army and Shi’ite fighters to pull back, military sources and the local mayor said on Sunday. The militants attacked around 8 pm (1700 GMT) on Saturday with two suicide car bombings. The blasts were followed by fierce clashes that lasted until midnight and drove the army and mainly Shi’ite Hashd Shaabi forces from the centre of town, two army colonels said. Baiji mayor Mahmoud al-Jabouri said there had been a pattern of withdrawals by ISIS fighters in the town followed by counter-offensives. “Their lethal weapons are suicide attacks and snipers, and this is why we have fighting back and forth.” Army officers said the army and Hashd groups were preparing a response. “ISIS fighters are still holding positions in three neighbourhoods in Baiji and they are still receiving reinforcements,” said one of the army colonels.

Iraq Headline: ISIS target Iraq’s Haditha town with vehicle bombs
An ISIS militant blew up an explosive-laden bulldozer near Haditha, killing seven Iraqi soldiers in one of a wave of bomb attacks on the northwestern town Monday, a police source said. Haditha and its nearby dam lie in one of the few parts of the huge western province of Anbar still under the control of Iraq’s Shiite-led government forces, which were driven out of the provincial capital Ramadi in May. Security services said they fired on and destroyed four other vehicles believed to be rigged with explosives near the town, before they could reach their targets. The coordinated assault reflected an escalation of ISIS operations in the final days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Also in Iraq: A car bomb also exploded Monday in the town of Jubba; seven soldiers were killed. A security source in Anbar said security forces recaptured a bridge north of Ramadi Monday in an attack which killed 14 ISIS fighters. In northeast Iraq, ISIS fighters launched an attack early Monday against Kurdish peshmerga forces in the village of Murah, near the city of Kirkuk.

An Iraqi Russian-made fighter jet accidentally dropped a bomb over a Baghdad neighborhood on Monday, killing at least 12 people on the ground, Iraqi officials said. The plane — one of several Sukhois used by Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State group — was returning to base when the accident happened. Military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Saad Maan Ibrahim, told The Associated Press that a technical failure caused the Sukhoi jet to malfunction and drop the bomb, which hit a number of houses in the Iraqi capital’s eastern neighborhood of New Baghdad. Three children and two women were among the 12 killed, a police officer at the scene and a medical official at a nearby hospital said. At least 25 others were wounded, the two officials added, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Kurdish Headline: Islamic State takes ground from Syrian Kurds after air strikes
Islamic State fighters stormed a Syrian town held by Kurdish-led forces near Raqqa city on Monday, part of a wider offensive by the militants two days after their de facto capital was hit by some of the heaviest U.S.-led air strikes in the conflict. The Kurdish YPG militia said it was fighting to expel Islamic State fighters who had attacked the town of Ain Issa, which was only captured from them two weeks ago with aerial support from the U.S.-led military alliance. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reports on the war, said Islamic State forces had taken the town and areas around it some 50 km (30 miles) north of Raqqa city. Air strikes at the weekend destroyed seven bridges over waterways in Raqqa, which is bordered to the south by the Euphrates river, it said. Monday’s attack on Ain Issa was part of a coordinated Islamic State offensive on YPG positions that also targeted the northeastern province of Hasaka, bordering Turkey to the north and Iraq to the south, YPG spokesman Redur Xelil said.

Kurdish Headline: ISIS launches major offensive south of Kirkuk
Hundreds of Islamic State militants launched several attacks on Peshmerga-controlled villages in the south of Kirkuk province Monday morning. Peshmerga forces claim to have foiled and beaten back the attacks. Rudaw video from today’s battles shows an intense gunfire exchange between Peshmerga and ISIS militants. A Peshmerga officer who spoke to Rudaw said ISIS was defeated and did not capture any territory in the battles. “More than 600 ISIS fighters launched an attack on Talwra, Big Homeyra, Small Homeyra, Al-Murra and Shahid villages, but they were defeated by the Peshmerga,” said a Peshmerga officer who gave his name only as Rasul. Rasul said the Kurdish forces with the aid of US-led airstrikes were able to defeat the ISIS attacks, but heavy fighting is still going on in Murra village. Kurdish estimates indicated that more than 100 ISIS fighters have been killed and injured in Monday’s battles. ISIS forces attempted to take control of the Syryani oil refinery in southeastern Kirkuk, but the Peshmerga were able to destroy two ISIS Humvees and defend the cluster of villages around the refinery.

Headline: EU Receives Warning ISIS Infiltrating Among Migrants
The European Union is being warned by international security personnel that there may be terrorists infiltrating among the migrants who flock to the continent. Smugglers’ boats sailing the Mediterranean Sea and carrying migrants to Europe may present a risk to the European Union, according to the warning received by Michele Coninsx, head of Eurojust, the EU judicial cooperation agency. The agency, which is tasked with helping EU nations respond to illegal immigration, terrorism and cyber crime, warned that some of the migrants may actually be fighters with Da’esh, the ISIS terrorist organization. In addition, Da’esh and similar groups are using funds obtained from human trafficking to fund their terrorist activities, according to a report by The Associated Press. Coninsx told reporters on Monday that although she could not share specific information provided by EU nations to Eurojust, the agency’s efforts are ongoing. She added that the scope of the infiltration by Da’esh terrorists now facing EU law enforcement officials is not yet clear.

Headline: Turkish Army Chiefs Meet to Discuss Syria Invasion: Report
Headline: Turks, Kurds in Syria border clash, NGO says
The Turkish army has called a meeting of troop commanders stationed along its fortified border with Syria to discuss a possible intervention in Syria, the Hurriyet newspaper reported on Sunday. Turkey has boosted its military defenses on the volatile border over the past week, stationing tanks and anti-aircraft missiles there as well as bolstering troop numbers, as fighting between Islamist-led groups and Syrian regime forces in the northern city of Aleppo has intensified. The Turkish build-up has fed speculation that the government is planning to intervene in Syria to push ISIS jihadists back from the border and halt the advance of Kurdish forces who have made gains against the extremists in the area. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday ruled out any prospect of an immediate intervention in Syria. But Hurriyet said on Sunday that the Turkish Armed Forces had ordered all commanders of troops stationed along the border to attend a meeting at military headquarters in Ankara next week to discuss the details of such an operation. The deployment of over 400 armored vehicles, which would carry military personnel and be protected by jammers against mines laid by ISIS terrorists, would be on the agenda at the meeting, Hurriyet reported on its website. The role of the Turkish Air Force in supporting such an operation is also expected to be discussed, it added.

A senior Iranian military official said Sunday that despite the emerging nuclear deal between Iran and the US-led P5+1 group of world powers, America will remain Tehran’s enemy. Iranian Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said that even if a nuclear deal comes to fruition in Vienna, where Iranian and western negotiators are currently trying to reach an agreement by a Tuesday deadline, Tehran and Washington will not become friends. “The US might arrive at some agreements with us within the framework of the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany), but we should never hold a positive view over the enemy,” Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted Pourdastan as saying. “Our enmity with them is over the principles and is rooted because we are after the truth and nations’ freedom, but they seek exploiting nations and putting them in chains,” he explained further.

Headline: Bomb attack in Kandahar, Afghanistan, kills 3 and wounds 13
An improvised explosive device attached to a motorcycle in Kandahar, Afghanistan, killed a police officer and two civilians on Sunday, according to reports. Thirteen people, including two police officers and 11 civilians, were injured in the blast, Xinhua news agency reports. The bomb went off as a police unit patrolled by at 6:45 p.m., Zia Durrani, police spokesman of Kandahar province, told Xinhua. The attack, which remains unclaimed, comes amid an increase in militant assaults on Afghan security forces. According to U.S. and Afghan officials, about 330 Afghan soldiers and police are killed or wounded each week in Taliban attacks, and the level of casualties among those forces in the first 15 weeks of 2015 was 70 percent higher than during the same period last year. The militants claimed to have killed up to 25 police officers in raids against checkpoints — some manned by two to three officers — in remote areas of Helmand province last month.

Headline: South Sudan army retakes town from rebels
South Sudan’s army said Monday it had retaken the strategic northeastern town of Malakal from rebels, the latest time the ruined state capital has swapped hands. Rebels led by ex-government general Johnson Olony – accused by aid agencies of forcibly recruiting hundreds of child soldiers – seized Malakal, the state capital of Upper Nile, in late June. The town is the gateway to the country’s last remaining major oil fields and has been repeatedly fought over during the 18-month long conflict. The army late Sunday launched an assault to retake the town. “The rebels fled to different directions,” army spokesman Philip Aguer told AFP Monday, saying the government was in “full control.” South Sudan’s civil war began in December 2013 when President Salva Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar of planning a coup, setting off a cycle of retaliatory killings across the country that has split the poverty-stricken, landlocked country along ethnic lines. Aguer also dismissed the rebel’s claims to have shot down a helicopter gunship on Sunday as a “fabrication.” Thousands of Ugandan troops backed by helicopter gunships are fighting for Kiir.

Headline: Russia Offers Another Concession to Armenia: Advanced Ballistic Missiles
Russia is negotiating with Armenia to supply the latter with advanced Iskander-M missiles, a potentially substantial boost to Armenian defenses against a potential Azeri attack. News about the ongoing negotiations was leaked to both the Armenian and Russian press, and the timing of the leak suggests an effort to tamp down anti-Russian sentiment in ongoing street protests in Yerevan. “The contract isn’t signed yet, negotiations are still continuing,” a source “in the military-technical cooperation sphere” told Russian news agency TASS. A source “close to the ruling Republican Party of Armenia” told the same thing to Armenian newspaper Zhamanak. The missiles could be acquired under a $200 million loan for arms purchases that Russia offered to Armenia last week and which Armenia’s parliament ratified in an extraordinary session on July 2. “We are going to acquire weaponry of a new type, which until now has not been seen in the Armenian armed forces,” said Ara Nazarian, Armenia’s deputy defense minister, in reference the loan. That loan was part of a series of concessions that Russia made to Armenia, including ceding to Armenian jurisdiction the case of a Russian soldier who killed seven members of an Armenian family. The news of the Iskander-Ms would seem to be yet another element of this effort to appease Armenian public sentiment.

Headline: Nigeria’s Boko Haram crisis: Jos blasts kill scores
Two bomb attacks on the central Nigerian city of Jos have left at least 44 people dead, the authorities say. A restaurant and a mosque were targeted on Sunday night. No-one has claimed responsibility but militant group Boko Haram has attacked Jos before, even though it is not in north-east Nigeria where the Islamists normally operate. The blasts are the latest in a series of deadly attacks in recent days which have seen more than 200 people killed. The attacks came shortly after the Ramadan fast was broken, with both sites full of people. Of the 44 dead, 23 were killed at the restaurant and 21 at the mosque, Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (Nema) says. There are also 47 people being treated for injuries, but emergency officials are still gathering information, so the figures may rise.

Headline: Islamist group Ansar Dine claims multiple attacks in Mali
The Malian Islamist rebel group Ansar Dine claimed it carried out a series of attacks against U.N. peacekeepers and Malian army targets in the country’s capital, Bamako, and border areas near Ivory Coast and Mauritania. A statement sent to the Mauritanian website Alakhbar, which frequently publishes messages from Islamist groups, said that Ansar Dine claimed responsibility for an attack on the western Malian town of Nara on June 27. Mali’s Defense Ministry said 12 people were killed in the attack. “God helped Islam’s youth to carry out several actions in 2015 against the Malian army,” the statement said. It was published Sunday. Ansar Dine also claimed responsibility for attacks in Misseni and Fakola in southern Mali in June and July, near vast mining reserves and the border with top cocoa producer Ivory Coast. It also said it had attacked U.N. peacekeepers in Bamako, an apparent reference to a May incident where U.N. vehicles and a house were targeted. The statement added that its two katibas, or brigades, named “Katiba Khalid Ibn Walid” and “Katiba Massina” had led the attacks.

Headline: 7 Pakistani Troops Killed in Bomb Attack, Firefight
Military officials in Pakistan say a firefight with Islamist militants near the border with Afghanistan Sunday left four soldiers and 12 insurgents dead. The army’s media wing says “fleeing terrorists also left behind 3 of their dead bodies.” The fighting occurred in the Dattakhel area of North Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal region where major counter-militancy army operations are under way. Earlier, a roadside bomb in the same region killed three paramilitary soldiers and wounded six others. Officials say the attack in Raghzai village targeted a military convoy. Pakistan’s military says the year-long counter-militancy campaign in Waziristan and surrounding areas has so far killed nearly 3,000 insurgents while more than 350 troops also died.

Headline: The Chinese government just took drastic steps to save the stock market
China is stepping in to try and save its flailing stock market. According to a Bloomberg report on Saturday, officials are suspending Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) – as many as 28 on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges – to deal with the tumble in stocks. Stopping new companies from going public in IPOs may reduce the flow of cash from existing stocks, Bloomberg notes. There was no information on how long this ban would last. An earlier report indicated that Chinese officials also created a “market-stabilization fund” that will be supported by about 21 Chinese brokerages, who have pledged to buy at least 120 billion yuan ($19.3 billion) in shares. But as Bloomberg notes, that amount is small when compared to the $2.4 trillion that vanished from Chinese stocks in the last three weeks. Senior government, central bank, and regulatory officials met Saturday to discuss how to address the stock market crash.

Asian stock markets headed lower after Greek voters overwhelmingly rejected austerity demands from creditors in Sunday’s referendum. The euro fell across the board after Greece rejected the conditions of a bailout package, increasing the odds of the country’s exit from the eurozone. It was at $1.1014 against the dollar in Asian trade, having recovered slightly from one-month lows hit earlier. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed down 3.2% at 25,236.28 – leading Asia’s losses. Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended 2.1% lower at 20,112.12. The yen – often viewed as a haven currency in times of uncertainty – rallied against the dollar and euro. The euro fell 1.5% to a six-week low of 133.70 yen, but then recovered some losses to trade at 135.45. However, it is still down from Friday’s rate of 136.185 yen. Major commodities such as oil were also down, with the price of Brent crude falling more than 1% to $59.56 a barrel in Asian trade.

Headline: Germany hit by record-setting heat, severe thunderstorms
Headline: Wildfires break out in Spain, Portugal; 1,350 evacuated
Germany’s weather service has reported the highest temperature on record. At least 12 have drowned in mishaps as people sought to escape one of the worst heat waves to hit central Europe in years. The DWD German weather service reported on Sunday that it had recorded a temperature of 40.3 degrees Celcius (104.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Bavarian town of Kitzingen. This was the highest temperature measured in Germany since the widespread recording of temperatures began in 1881, just slightly above the previous record of 40.2 degrees. In a country in which rain and chilly temperatures are often the norm in summer months, many people struggled to endure the hottest weekend that Germany has experienced in years. This led many people to try to cool off in public swimming pools and natural bodies of water. This ended in tragedy for some, with the authorities reporting at least 12 swimming-related deaths over the weekend. The high temperatures also contributed to severe thunderstorms in many parts of Germany on Sunday, uprooting trees and blocking some major train lines and autobahns.
