A shallow 5.6 earthquake struck near Barishal, Gilgit-Baltistan on January 19, damaging multiple homes, killing one person, and injuring two. Multiple landslides were also reported, with debris blocking multiple routes across the region and surrounding areas. The earthquake occurred within Hindu Kush–Karakoram–Pamir collision zone, part of the broader India–Eurasia plate convergence system.
