For years I have been warning people that for one man to control the world’s economic system as warned by Jesus in Revelation chapter 13 something major has to take place that would cause chaos in the world, enough chaos that the world would seek out someone to bring back order. Of course, we know who that man will be, the Antichrist. One way to bring the world’s economy down would be to stop the flow of oil which, we are seeing right now via the Iran war.
If the world suddenly lost access to oil (or faced a near-total cutoff, as opposed to a gradual depletion), modern society would face severe, cascading disruptions because oil powers about 30-40% of global energy, with ~96% of transportation relying on it. Oil isn’t just fuel—it’s the backbone of plastics, chemicals, fertilizers, asphalt, lubricants, and thousands of everyday products. Prices for any of these items would skyrocket.
Short-Term Chaos (Days to Weeks)
One of the first things to happen is transportation grinds to a halt: Cars, trucks, buses, planes, ships, and most freight stop moving. Global shipping (which carries ~90% of world trade) relies almost entirely on oil-based bunker fuel. Supermarket shelves empty quickly as food and goods can’t be delivered. Commuting collapses, leading to widespread work stoppages. This brings me to what Jesus said in Revelation Revelation 6:5-6
Revelation 6:5-6 describes the opening of the third seal in the Book of Revelation: “When He had opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come and see.’ So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, ‘A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.'”
In short what Revelation 6:5-6 tells us is people will have to work all day long for one small meal because, the prices are so high most people won’t be able to afford to eat.
The is no question fuel shortages would lead to panic:
Gas stations run dry, triggering lines, rationing, price spikes, and potential hoarding or civil unrest (similar to, but far worse than, the 1973-74 oil embargo lines).
Of course, there would be energy and heating issues. Regions dependent on oil for power generation or home heating face blackouts or cold homes. Plus emergency services such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police would struggle after reserves depleted.
What be the result of limited oil? Economic Collapse!
As I stated, skyrocketing prices and inflation: Even partial disruptions (like the hypothetical or our current Strait of Hormuz scenarios) send oil prices soaring to $100–$200+/barrel, driving up costs for everything transported or made with petroleum derivatives. This leads to stagflation—high inflation combined with recession, job losses, and slowed growth. I see the warning of Christ all over this!
Added to the chaos we would see industry shutdowns. Manufacturing, agriculture (tractors, harvesters), and supply chains halt. This would mean millions around the world would lose their jobs rapidly. The global economy, built on cheap, abundant oil-enabled trade and mobility would crash without quesstion.
We would also see stock markets and currencies tumble. Oil-importing nations suffer most; exporting ones (if any production remains) gain short-term leverage but face their own chaos if demand evaporates.
I remember back in 1973, because of the OPEC oil embargo Americans saw prices for oil go through the roof. I remember we could only get gas based on our license plate. Example: if your license plate ended with a even number you could get gas on Monday. If your license plate ended in an odd number, you could only get gas on Tuesday. Because of the OPEC oil embargo our life became really stressful. Can you imagine a total or near-total loss of access to oil?
Do you think what I stated above is far-fetched you better read the report below because we are headed in that direction.
Why the Real Oil Crisis Hasn’t Started Yet
If the Strait of Hormuz remains closed much longer, things will get really bad, really fast.
“Because demand for liquid fuels is relatively inelastic (your commute doesn’t get shorter when oil prices rise), the price increases necessary to induce the “demand destruction” that brings supply and demand back into balance is quite high. Analysts such as Commodity Context’s Rory Johnston argue that blocking the strait could send oil to $200 a barrel or higher. That global cataclysm hasn’t happened yet. But if this goes on much longer, the chances it does only get higher and higher.”
