China’s medical regulator has approved NEO, a coin-sized brain-computer interface from Tsinghua University and Neuracle Technology.
Officials call it the first commercial authorization for an invasive brain implant meant to restore movement outside research labs. Neuralink is still in human trials.
NEO’s sensors sit on the dura, the brain’s outer covering, rather than piercing the cortex. Approval is limited to adults 18 to 60 with full-limb paralysis from cervical spinal cord injury who still have some arm function.
