Not surprisingly, there has been much ink spilt over the newfound relationship between the Washington and Damascus. Far less attention has been paid to another important development — Kazakhstan’s joining the Abraham Accords. The largest of the Central Asian “stan’s,” Kazakhstan has actually had formal relations with Israel since 1992. For that reason, many analysts have downplayed the significance of Astana joining the Accords and consider its doing so primarily a symbolic gesture. But in fact, Kazakhstan’s accession signifies far more than merely a rubber stamp of a long-standing relationship. Until now, the Abraham Accords had included only Arab states. Kazakhstan is a non-Arab majority-Muslim country. Its joining the Accords foreshadows the expansion of relations between Israel and other non-Arab Muslim countries. Watchdog group urges Speaker Johnson to garnish Ilhan Omar’s salary to cover her student loans A conservative watchdog group is urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to step in on what it calls an “abuse of office” by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., over her outstanding federal student loans. In a letter to Johnson, the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) claims Omar is in collection proceedings over her federally-guaranteed student loans despite earning $174,000 a year as a member of Congress, the Daily Wire first reported. “The fact that someone making $174,000 as a Member of Congress cannot pay their student loans is unconscionable and embarrassing,” wrote AAF president Thomas Jones. AAF is asking Johnson to instruct the House Chief Administrative Officer to garnish a portion of Omar’s congressional salary and send it directly to her servicer, Nelnet, until the balance is resolved. “Adding insult to injury, there are credible claims that she is using her influence as a Member of Congress to bully the Department of Education into not collecting the past-due payments,”
